001Hello, this is Chris Whitley with Hanver County Public Schools with an important message. Well, if you're ready to kiss our ice age goodbye, we're sorry to say that it continues to wreak havoc across Hanover County, and a muchneeded meltdown is moving at a sloth's pace. We realize this message may cause some of you to have your own meltdown, and we truly wish we had better news. The lingering effects of last weekend's inclement weather combined with ongoing below freezing temperatures continue to make road conditions on secondary roads and especially in neighborhoods hazardous. No useful melting has occurred or is anticipated and conditions remain unsafe for our buses, student drivers, staff, and families. In addition to treacherous roadways, the roads, parking lots, bus loops, and sidewalks at our schools remain unsafe. While we are working closely with
002our contractors to clear these areas when practical, the extremely cold temperatures and limited melting remain a significant challenge to these ongoing efforts. As a result, Hanover County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, February 2nd, and Tuesday, February 3rd. Monday will be a remote learning day. Employees use code six for both days, meaning at the earliest possible time only designated personnel report to work. All other employees work remotely as able. Please note that any designated employees who may be needed will be contacted directly by their supervisor. Again, Hannover County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, February 2nd and Tuesday, February 3rd. Monday will be a remote learning day. Employees use code six for both days. For the remote learning day, all families will receive a parent square message from your student's teacher that will
003include information about accessing assignments and how to contact your teacher if your child needs assistance. We encourage you to read the full message in Parents Square or on our website at hcps. us for more information. We understand this continues to be disruptive and sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to make the best possible decisions for our students and staff. We hope that sharing this information well in advance is helpful to you as you begin to make the necessary arrangements. In the meantime, we hope you stay as safe as a saber-tooth tiger and as warm as a woolly mammoth. Be sure to take good care of each other and whatever you do, don't be a silly sloth like Sid.
