Hello everyone. Welcome to the policy committee for June 2nd. It is 5:00. Can I have a roll call, please? >> Here. >> Rosner is absent. Patricia Munan >> here. >> A Coutach >> here. >> Also in attendance, Kristen Santilly, Tracy Hussy, and Carol Penazo. >> Can I have a rise for the pledge of allegiance? Flag of the United States of America to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> I have a approval of the last most minutes or the last means minutes on from April 7th. >> I'll second. >> Motion by Keith, second by Patty. All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposition? Motion passes. Any call? Any public comment? First, second, and third call. Sensing none, we're going to move on. Uh

there's four two policies on the agenda which um look like they're cube and state uh statue. You want to talk Okay. So there is policy 5141.4 reporting of child abuse and sexual assault to replace policy number 400.3 uh reports of suspect abuse or neglect of children. There's also policy number 50.1 which is classroom observation. Um I can share with first one is um just the like I said like it says there the reporting of child abuse neglect and sexual assault. Um the second one is one that the board um superintendent thought legal council legal council um is recommending that the board of ed considered this um cape policy to be put into place because regarding classroom observations and parents um coming in to observe students um for request or um again outside evaluators that may

come in um or independent evaluations >> but this is not observation of teachers it's outside people coming in to observe the students learning >> yes and I I do need to make it clear it did also um it did also this topic did get brought up to teachers union uh issue that the superintendent had to address with the union so Um it is recommended that um by our legal your legal counsel adding this pol this this Kate policy and this is the recommended wording from Kate. >> Yes. How did this how did this get brought up to us and as a um >> so so this uh the the classroom observation uh this policy got brought up because it um it was a practice that was in the district um without knowledge um and so

and then it got brought up to the teachers That's when um he said let's hold off on this. I want to talk to legal counsel. This has been >> so prior to this parents would simply contact the school say I want to come in or no prior to no that that's not that's not true. We just we we procedures proced not policies procedures may have been developed um for for that type of a request. However, in speaking with legal, they highly recommend that we have a policy order to better protect our to protect the board in the district and to set the >> set the parameters to from a pol from procedure >> them procedure to policy. >> Just to go back to the other one just um state statute revision according. >> Yes. Yes.

Mhm. So if you could see seven is the a policy on reporting of child abuse, neglect and language that is um strike through to take out and language that is added with red >> or brown as the case may be. might be >> a printer. >> Yeah, >> you are right. >> It's like a >> I just So it's different. We can tell. >> So we're we're taking a cave policy, amending it to our needs. Yes. >> To implement >> was the previous policy a cape >> might have been probably >> policy >> it um the only thing at the end of the policy the previous one stated the legal references did not say anything as to whether we got it from cave or >> oh reviewed in 2016. >> Yes. >> That's okay. So,

we're replacing the current >> we're replacing that policy with this one >> based on a CAB recommendation, >> pretty standard for child abuse and neglect. >> And it um includes mandated reporter, >> mandated reporting in a formal investigation and the process for that form >> without having read it in detail. Yeah. And really it's to protect the child for the child's safety. Okay. Like a behavioral specialist or something like that. There any discussion? >> Do you have any do we have any further discussion on these before we have to before we move them up to review for 30 days by the board? >> Yeah. Um, I would move that we send both of those first two policies that were for mentioned to the full board for review for 30 days. >> I'll second. >> Motion

made by Kate, second by Patty. All those in favor? >> I I motion passes. the next one which is discussion and possible action in the L00 series which is our bylaws as a board. Um yeah, we >> I know that we last the last meeting that we had, we going to have our attorney here uh to help us with some of this statue versus other stuff. I know that there's an outside I will probably >> entertain a motion for that. >> A motion to table the policies the bylaws in the policy manual with lack of legal counsel for discussion and I'll second that. >> I'll any favor of that motion. Anyone else? Motion passes. And any additional comments from administration. >> All right. And besides, >> I would just recommend that policy can meet in

September so we can actually get going on these cuz >> yeah, >> we wanted to try and do them in the fall before new board members came on and now we'll be another whole year behind. >> I think we may meet in like August, the end of the end of >> Right. It should. >> So then we would have >> it should be >> August. >> Perfect. Perfect. >> Yeah. And besides that, I know that we I didn't want to bring this up in July because we don't have any meetings. The house has a travel. So, uh, with that, I'll make I'll entertain a motion to adjourn. >> So, moved. >> I'll second. >> Meeting is adjourned at 1711. Pancakes.
