That's what I was trying to say. >> Connecticut General Statute 10-28. >> So it's the meeting is live currently just for your FYI. >> Like literally your sister's like Marty said he's on his way, but he's not going to be able to make it for the beginning. >> Okay. He didn't answer my phone call. >> He was in the car. >> Thanks, Jim. >> Okay. How do we do this? >> I guess you can takeformational items first. >> We're going to start the meeting. >> Okay. I think um we will delay and then we'll go back and get >> I think we're not doing anything yet. Okay, good. Good evening. A little over anxious there. So, we have an unusual situation tonight. I'm going to call the meeting to order right now. It's an unofficial

meeting because we only have four board members that are officially on the board of education. The other members were all elected. They have not been sworn in yet. They were supposed to be sworn in at 6:50 tonight. Dave Marty is on his way. So, we're going to go ahead and move along with the meeting. We won't be taking any votes until after everybody is sworn in. And so, we will go ahead and stand for the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. So now we will move down to item number six, administrative reports, and I'll turn it over to you. >> Thank you and good evening. I'd

like to report and share that on Friday I had the pleasure of attending the caves cap convention. I would like to thank uh Gina Ole, Sharon Goule, and anchor Patrick for attending. Um, we attended an AI session together and thank you for your participation. Now, the big news, I'd like to publicly congratulate coach Rick Kelly and the boys varsity soccer team on their championship win on November 16th. It was an impressive win against Haten Hilling. The last time that championship plaque was brought to Summers was in 2015. It's great to be champions. It's something they can relish for many years to come. So, they had a great season. Uh, next on Veterans Day, we had two substantial appreciation ceremonies. We combined SHS and MBA at the high school. Uh, we took some feedback from the

veterans in the past. It was hard for them to run to three different locations. Um, the auditorium was packed. I'd like to thank Mike Briggs, Jan Martin, and Ed Deo for attending and they also had a we also had a ceremony at SCES. I think we will going forward we'll continue the combined ceremony with MBA and SHS. So, I didn't get any negative feedback and the high school kids did a awesome job running that ceremony. So, this is a shortened week and I want to take this opportunity to wish our students and families a restful uh Thanksgiving Day break. Uh time with family is invaluable. I hope you all have the opportunity to stop, pause, hug each other, laugh, and eat well. Uh so, that concludes my update for this evening. Thank you. >> Okay.

Uh next is the uh student representative report. Um, good evening. My name is Jessica Chen and I'm a junior at Summers High School. Hi, I'm La and I'm also a junior. >> And I'm Aiden Mitch. I'm also a junior at S High School. >> Um, this is our this is our first year being student representatives and we're group two. So, we present this month, February, April, and June. Okay. So recently core started and we had the veterans day ceremony where we had the summer middle the summer and then >> okay and then Mabel VA Avery school come in and just a lot of fun. We had veterans give speeches. We had interviewed speeches and then afterwards we had the pop concert on Broadway night where the drama club did a one act show of check

please which is a comedy of blind faith. Um then we had workbased learning panels where we had two SHs um alumni come and talk about their careers after high school. And then we had fan and chorus compete in NC's. And then we also had um Interact Club host the No Shave November fundraiser to help spread awareness on men's mental health. >> Um also Interact Club is also hosting the annual fill the tablecloth food drive where they're raising food and other necessities in collaboration with Champ's food pantry. And then class of 2028 is hosting a can and bottle drive. And class of 2027 just wrapped up a Jersey Mike fundraiser where they raised around $400. And two of our amazing high school students also got awarded with the act of kindness awards. So Henry Vzende got

awarded for being a mentor and translating for um new students from Brazil and Cuba and Chassity got awarded for being a supportive and inclusive student leader in um our high school. And this weekend um two of our student representatives got to attend the CA conference as well. Okay. And here's our photos from that from Veterans Day. Here are amazing veterans that decided to join us that day and the middle school and the high school singing for us. And here's some students and president giving a speech. >> Delaney Drenin was the student that was the MC for the entire um Veterans Day ceremony and she did a fantastic job. >> And here are some photos from anyone who didn't make it for pop concert or the um play. >> You did a really good job from

whatever >> the playmate making ball. Um, all music students got accepted to the east eastern region music festival for the first time for NHS history. >> SHS is what I'm um but that they all got accepted to the music festival which was for the first time for SHS. Yeah. >> So all of the students played with multiple students from NC's at Grand Memorial High School. They put on a combined concert last weekend that is fantastic. And in last week's um Spartan scroll, there was a link where you could um watch the entire um show. It was fantastic. Kids did a great job. >> Um these are some pictures from the um WBL uh panels. On the bottom left is Kuran Desai who talked about his career in marketing in real estate. And then on your

right is Alexander Delesio who talks about commercial photography. And this weekend, two of the student representers got to attend the Cape Conference where um we got to hear from amazing presenters from across Connecticut and talk with other student representatives that represent other districts. Okay. Okay, so for some sports highlights, the boy soccer won state championship. Will Cororsby was named the MVP of the game and it was 3 to1 scored by Logan Fritz and Will Cororsby. >> And then for cross country, uh Jonathan Breton qualified for state opens with 10th place in states and then 162nd at state opens. >> And then all conference and state awards were awarded. So for field hockey, Danielle Powski got all conference. Laya Manel got all conference and all state. For girls soccer, Mackenzie Smith and Addy Tab got all

conference. Um, and then for boys soccer, Willa Corsy and Ben Medric got all state and all conference. Um, and then RJ and Logan Fritz got all conference. >> Oh, and this is the boys team celebrating after their win with a lot of summers families there to support. So that was the coolest day because we got we got to the field and of all of the teams there, first of all, I pulled in and I did not know that I was going into what felt like a college game of tailgating. >> There was a lot to a lot of families out and just they were cooking breakfast and playing games and socializing. They greeted all of the students as they came in off the bus. It was really beautiful. And then for the stands themselves, um,

Summers, which is a very tiny little town, filled three quarters of the stands. It was, it was really, it was really nice. >> And for field trips, Miss Lar's French class went to Thor for the second time this year since they started, and they learned how to make the French cuisine. Um, and then Mr. Kazloski and Mr. Megar's class took their students to the aerospace alley future workforce opportunity fair where they got to interact and talk with a bunch of aerospace engineering companies. >> And then Mr. Maluso hosted a principles of law trip to the Rockville Superior Court and prison where they got to witness live court hearings and get to talk to prosecutors, defenders, and attorneys and got to meet Judge Al Fanza. >> Yes. And then some students also got to attend the

virtual travelers actuarial high school day where they got to talk with data analysis and business insiders from travelers insurance and got to explore some possible career paths. And here's some pictures from those field trips. So my upcoming activities for SHS is Thanksgiving break which starts in two days and then a speaker on perseverance, mental health, and leadership from Nick um who's an ex-p profofessional baseball player and he's looking to spread his message to others and then we have winter sports starting up again. Um, in the LMC, we're also hosting makerpace ornaments again where um, SHS is collaborating with Evergreen Assisted Living to make clay Christmas ornaments. Um, class 2028 is also ending their Japan ball drive on December 6th and new NHS members get inducted on December 10th. So, the CCPMC PJ day um, is

on December 12th. dress up and it's to support the um Henrik Children's Foundation and Kids with Cancer. Winter break starts on um December 24th to January 2nd and the public forum is on January 7th. Okay. And for some good news, the Connecticut Department of Education has named Summers High School as the level one level of oh level one school of distinction for high performance. Um this is because of our gains in academics and outcome of outcomes in the school year of 2024 and 2025. Um this moved our school rank up as in 2022 to 2023 school year we were ranked 63rd and then the next year after that we were ranked 23rd and this past year we were ranked 17th out of the entire state >> and so now we are top 10% of schools

in the state of Connecticut and we hope to keep this momentum coming for upcoming years. That's it. Nice job. >> Good job. Nice job. >> Where you going? That's a good question. >> Not yet. >> I thought they were ready for me. >> They're ready. >> All right. So, how can we help you? What if if you had one ask of us as the board, >> what would it be? >> Well, first, can we have two? Yeah. But yeah, sure. >> Okay. So, our first one, recently we took a survey that we sent out to the um juniors, the sophomores, and the freshmen about a culinary arts class. And we got over like a hundred responses. And about like over 20, wait, sorry, wait, over 98% of the kids want a coloring arts class just

to help them like learn basic skills outside of high school. Our academics is perfect. Like we've done a lot, but I feel like we could expand more on things outside of school and just teach them basic life skills to go on. So, we're hoping you could keep food service in your Oh my god. >> in your budget to help us out. No. >> So, do you mean more of like the trades like like more of So that we had that um Dr. Miguel Cardano was >> Cardona Cardona. Sorry. >> Number one. >> Fix that pronounce his name correct. But um yes, the the trades are huge right now. Like it's a big deal. >> Yeah. A lot of kids also want to go into culinary arts which we kind of don't focus on. We just

focus on like the STEM part. And I feel like it's kind of like like I feel really bad for them because everyone else is focusing on other stuff and they don't really know how to get to where they want to in life. Hopefully we can change that. Um, and then our second thing was, um, this weekend I got to attend the cave conference and I was talking with some student representatives from other districts to see what they were kind of implementing into their school with their board of education. And something that came up was the inclusion of other cultural holidays. And I know that in our town there's not necessarily a wide range of holidays that are celebrated, but um there's a lot of people who don't even know a lot about them. Like for

instance um Aza celebrates Ramadan and Eid and not a lot of people at least in our school know what that is and we're just hoping that we could raise awareness for that. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Great. >> Yep. Definitely. All right. Awesome. >> Thank you very much. >> All right. Thank you. We're going to move down to item number 10. And Dr. Kudi, if you'd like to go ahead and present. We won't be able to vote till date gets here, but we're trying to be efficient. >> How is everyone tonight? >> Doing a great job. That's my period seven class right there. Well, three out of 19 of them. >> They have eight now. >> Absolutely. >> All right. Um so, uh this is the um annual. >> How many have you done? >>

This is the first time I presented before the board was actually 16 years ago. Yeah. >> And uh the I don't remember where it was, but I remember the room being packed with a lot of students because it was the first time we ever did it. Um and uh when uh the board voted on it, they all applauded, which was actually kind of cool to have the students here. So, it's nice to have these three here because they're going on the trip. >> We can make Evan come up and talk about all 48 students that are actually going on the trip. Um what I thought I would do is show you a little bit about what we did last year. Uh and then just sort of talk you through the itinerary a little bit. Um

the itinerary is changing. Like for example, this morning I just heard from Blumenthal's office that we got the capital tour, but it's not on the day that you have in your itinerary. It's going to be for Friday the 13th. Um so um so it's moving parts. >> Yeah, it there's a lot of moving parts to this. So I thought I'd focus on the stuff that I actually knew happened and then you know you can ask some questions. Um so all right, why don't we start with the first slide? Oh. Oh, I can click this. Wait, which button? I just go just uh Oh, well, look at that. All right, here we go. Okay, so some of the places where we go on this trip are we try to look at all the different monuments. And

what you have here, this is actually from two years ago. All the other ones are from last year, but I really love this shot of Mr. Dies looking um at the Vietnam War wall with students from Summers. Um and um we were looking up a uh um a resident of Summers who actually fought in Vietnam. um uh Private Newsome. Um and um so we actually find him on the wall and we do an etching of him. >> Um >> so but we also go to the capital. This is in the um statuary hall where um where there's a lot of different um statues from different states there. Uh we tour the entire capital. Um and that's you know that's pretty amazing when you go into the ratunda and you see all the paintings and you

see all the statues. Um actually it's where they held the inauguration last year right in the retunda. Um so it's kind of interesting to be part of that you know history. Um and of course that's Washington Monument right there. Um that's all the students from last year. I believe we took um 19 students last year. This year we have a whopping 48 students. Um I got a double-decker bus for this one um cuz uh the 56 passenger with the chaperones gets a little tight. So So we have a double-decker. They're very excited about the double-decker. They actually took it to Boston, right? So, all they talk about is a double-decker bus. So, apparently I just have to drive around New England and the double-decker bus and then they would be more than happy with that.

Um, we also have an opportunity to meet Senator Blumenthal last year. I'm working on that right now. Um, Senator Blumenthal's office hasn't confirmed. Um, he's very focused with his time and it's just nice to see an elected official. If I can't get Senator Blumenthal, I thought I'd reach out to Joe Courtney. um and you know maybe Senator Murphy um but he's been very very good um and and just really talks to the students, takes a lot of time with them. He spent a good 25 minutes with them last year just you know answering questions just explaining what's going on um in the Senate. Um we also brought Mr. Safer's son along the trip. If you notice he's on Hail's back there um just sort of looking down. Um, and the monuments are, you know, probably

some of the more amazing places to take students because there's so much history within them. Um, we have, uh, the World War II um, the World War II monument or I'm sorry, memorial uh, uh, Dr. King, which is one of my favorites. And, um, this one we try to take a picture at night, and it it's just beautiful at night. And we start at King and then we move around the basin, go to FDR Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial. This down here is a new one um where it's the World War I memorial uh which they just they uh refurbished it. Um it used to just be the uh uh the John J. Persing um area which is after the you know general who led forces in World War I. Uh but they added a whole

other section. So we got to see that for the first time this last trip. Um this is probably one of my favorite places to visit is actually Lincoln Memorial. and they had an opportunity and you don't really get a picture like this where there's no one else in it. So, this is up on this is up on the wall in the uh um in the room. Um I try to put pictures of all the kids that have actually gone on the trip. So, I have every group up in my classroom. You can go all the way back to 2010 and I actually put this one up there just the other day, right guys? You saw they're up there for Boston. I started a Boston wall too. Boston is like the formative assessment for the Washington

DC trip. You have to see how it works. See how you know we're kind of like just sort of taking notes. All right. Is this working right? Can you get on the bus? Can you get off the bus? Do they stay in line? And you did really well on the formative assessment. So we can now move on to the summer. And um scooters. >> We're not doing scooters. We're not doing scooters. Um one of the um uh the most solemn places that we go of course is Arlington National Cemetery where we see the changing of the guard. Uh we go to the Kennedy um that's John F. Kennedy's uh grave. We also see his two brothers. Um, and uh, last year, no no, two years ago, we went to Coen Powell's grave actually. Um, and

we brought a student to uh, the grave of her uncle who was actually at Arlington. And we've actually brought other students to other grave sites. Um, uh, Tim Keiny's daughter was uh, was with us and we went to his father's grave in Arlington actually, which was really powerful. really powerful. Um, so Arlington is just an amazing place where um, because it it's just rooted in so much history. Um, and it's actually the original grounds, not to give you a history lesson, but I can't help myself. It's the original grounds of uh, Robert E. Lee. And during the Civil War, um, when the Union um, um, well into it, they needed a place to bury their dead. So, they took Robert E. Lee's land and they actually started burying them there. And that's how Arlington Cemetery

started. Um, so you can go up to Lee's old house, which you can see on the hill over there. Um, and you learn a little bit about that, too. Um, you know, while we're there. Um, and we go to the museums. The museums are hands down one of my favorite places. Um, and it's like I was saying before, this is like the Walt Disney World of, you know, history cuz there's so many cool things. And this is just a few things. Uh, we went to Natural Museum, the Gallery of Art, um, Aaron Space, we do American History Museum. And um I try to fit in whatever I can while we're down there. If I even have a moment, if I have an hour and I can get into one of the museums, I do things

on the fly. I'll go to American Indian Museum, um the African-American History Museum. We we have to get tickets for that. So, I always make sure that I get that in there, too. Um I'm thinking about doing the Holocaust Museum this year. I'm not sure. I've never done that. Um, I might not be able to do Ford's Theater. So, I thought because of just I think they're doing a show, so I can't get in it at certain times. So, I might do the Holocaust Museum. Um, I want to talk to them about it first before I try to book it. Um, so that way they have some say in it. Um, and um, oh yeah, we also go to Euima. Um, that's the FDR memorial and that's from the um, American History Museum. Um, that

memorial is pretty cool. One year we actually met a veteran from Euima. there and actually had a whole conversation with him which was really cool. Just it was just amazing. Um >> how old was he? >> how old was he? >> Um I don't remember. This was maybe the second year that I went on the trip. I had a small group. >> Yeah. >> And um and we all got to talk to him. He sort of held court and I was with Mr. Drum, too. And um Mr. Drum teaches a whole course on World War I or World War II. So, um it was it was pretty amazing um that uh we had an opportunity to speak to him. Um looking down and see if I forgot anything else. Uh we stay at a Courtyard

Marriott um and um uh which is just outside DC in Alexandria. We've been staying there almost um every year but one um in the past we used to go with school tours which is a uh group that actually um you know plans these trips but they started coming back with really high prices in the upwards of close to $1,000. Um and um they actually contacted me over the summer and said that they would like to try to do it again but they can't come within the distance that we're able to do it you know if you know we just do it. So this year the trip is going to cost five around $540. I'm still trying to figure out for theater and such. Um last year it was 750 because there was only 18 students,

but with the 48 students were able to subsidize it a little more. So it actually brings down the cost. >> The more students I have, the the the less it is. The largest cost is the bus. Um you know, everything else is sort of um you know, it isn't as bad. Um but but we stay at the Alexandria um and um at at that Marriott and it's worked out really well over the years. Um we'll have six chaperoons on the trip. Um and we sort of position you know sort of on each floor. We'll probably have multiple floors this year. Um so you know that's and uh yeah that's the trip and you know the the short version. Um, you know, kids had a good time and >> so if we can take a break,

Dave Marty is here. >> Oh, all right. >> And once we get everybody sworn in, we can go back to you. >> Oh, sure. Yeah. >> That sounds great. >> If it works better and if it works better for me to do it at the end so that it doesn't disrupt the no one can vote until it gets sworn in. >> So, Do you need me to guess? >> No, no, you're good. >> What I'm going to do is >> the five members, I'm going to name after names and I'm going to do the pledge one time in the whole group and then at the end when you accept the pledge, I'm going to call your name like a roll call at the at the end and then you guys will come up and sign

the book. Okay. >> Okay. So we have Ed Dew, Sharon Glette, Gina Olair >> Olarchic, Derek Zelic, Kimberly Radwitz, Michael Briggs. Do you all solemnly swear that you will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution? Raise your right hand. And the Constitution of the State of Connecticut, so long as you continue a citizen thereof, and that you will faithfully discharge according to the law the duties of the Office of Board of Education to the best of your abilities. So help you God. Ed Pew, >> I do. Sharon, >> I do. >> Gina, >> I do. >> Derek, >> I do. >> Kimberly, >> I do. >> Michael, >> I do. >> All right, then. If you guys would each come up here and just sign the book, and then I'll witness your

signatures. >> I like being a part of the history, don't get me wrong, but you guys deserve your own pictures. >> All right, Sharon right there. Trump. >> Thanks. Huh? >> Yeah. >> Say that's fine. >> Y >> I love it. >> I feel sick. I feel like >> All right. Thank you very much again. I apologize. >> Good work everyone. Thank you. >> Okay. Now we have a little bit of business to do so that we have voting. >> Okay. >> I'll turn it over to Dr. Del. Thank you. Sorry. As superintendent, it is my responsibility to call this portion of the meeting to order for the purpose of conducting the annual election of officers for the summer's board of education. The election will be conducted in the following order. First, the board chair,

followed by the vice chair, and then the secretary. I will now open the floor for nominations for the position of board chair. >> I would like to nominate Mike first. >> Is there a second? >> I second. >> Are there any other nominations? Nominations has been made. It's been properly seconded. I'll turn it over to you, Mr. Chair. >> Okay. Well, thank you. Uh, I'm honored to be nominated as the board chair for at least the next year. Um, but most of all, I'm proud. Uh, I'm proud of the work we've done as a board over the last four years. And the reason, well, one of the big reasons for that is because of an and an's leadership. Um, we're a strong board, so we're able to make these these changes. I I don't know

that we were that way um a couple years ago, you know, and and an has been instrumental in that um specifically leading us through a superintendent search which I think has drastically changed the trajectory of this district in a in a good way. Um and I'm excited about what's to come with with the board and and where what we can do. And I think as long as we continue to keep the mission that the kids of summers come first, I think we're going to do great things. Um, so again, thank you. Um, and I guess answer my phone. >> All right. >> Yep. So, I'll now open the floor for nominations for the position of board vice chair and um I'm a big continuity guy, so I think that it's important and I want to

nominate Ann as vice chair. Do >> I have a >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I >> All right, that's unanimous. >> So before we go on to the next one, I would like to publicly thank Kim for being vice chair. Kim has done above and beyond what the job description and the board bylaw say. Um Kim has for every Monday board have had meetings for the past several years. Kim and I have met at the Dunkin Donuts on South Road 8:30 in the morning. We go over the agenda. We go over all the motions. She's got my back. You've probably never seen it, but if I miss something, there's just a subtle elbow that I miss something. And um that's above and beyond. And I just want to publicly thank her for everything

else that she has going in her life that she has taken that time around her work schedule. We've never missed a meeting. The one where she really had a phone call, we did it by phone. But that prepared me. And as Mike just said, this has been a whole team effort for this board to function as a professional board continuing move forward in a very positive way. So, >> thank you. And I want to thank you as well. I I've learned so much so much more than I could have ever imagined by just sitting with you and, you know, having those meetings and watching what you've done every week. So, been lucky to have you and we're looking forward to having you, too. And we're still all going to be together. >> Yes. >> All

right. Great. So, now I'll open the floor for nominations for the position of board secretary. >> And I would like to add uh nominate Sharon Goule. >> Okay. Are there any other nominations for board secretary? Okay. Nominations are now closed. >> I'll second. >> Not yet. Okay. >> Um, so can I have a a motion to appoint Sharon Goule as the board secretary? >> I think I moved. >> Thanks, Sure. >> Derek. All in favor? >> And that also is unanimous. >> Thank you. I'm looking forward to working with all of you. >> All right. >> Now we'll switch. >> Now we vote on doing that, right? >> No. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> I'm going to move. >> Yeah. >> All right. Changing the card, right? Mr. How bipartisan works. I probably shouldn't

over there. >> All right. >> No, we're fine here. >> We'll adjust next. We need to adjust the name. >> Yeah. So, um All right. >> Thank you. >> Okay. So, does anyone have any questions for Dr. Duty about the Washington DC trip. >> Hey Ken, >> just a comment. Um, I just want to commend you. Setting this all up yourself is not a small task and the fact that you do that while teaching full-time here and as adjunct at Quinnipak is pretty impressive. >> Okay. >> But also when we think about placebased experiential learning, this is it. Uh my son was lucky enough to attend this trip and he said it's one thing to learn about it in the classroom, but when you go and see the places that you're teaching them about, it's

a whole different ball game. So, thank you for continuing to put the time and effort into this for our students. >> No, thank you. Thank you. It really is my pleasure. It it it actually is an honor and a privilege to be able to take them. Um I consider myself very lucky to be able to teach these kids. Um and uh you know it's uh in fact we were talking today about being keepers of history and you know how that's so important. Um you know so so I do appreciate it. Thank you for your support. >> I have one question. If you could only go two places, where would you go? >> That's a great question. >> Um >> three places. >> Okay. Um, it's got to be the whole mall. >> So, you know,

as a teacher of American history, I guess I'd have to say American the the American History Museum, but the African-American History Museum is amazing. Um, and it's uh so those two museums definitely. And I have to see Lincoln. I see Lincoln every year. Um, I have pictures of my children when they were really little and I put them in the same spot and I and so you can literally see them growing up. They stopped after a while. They refuse to take the picture, but for years I have all these pictures of of the kids getting, you know, bigger in front of Lincoln. He's he's actually my favorite. So, it's I know I read about John Kennedy, but actually Lincoln is the real deal. >> And um he's uh pretty cool for me. >> Great. >>

I forget one question. Is this juniors? >> It's juniors. Yeah, >> juniors. Okay. That's why it's much bigger. >> Um I mean, one year we uh um one year we had to combine and do seniors and juniors because of co um we skipped a year. So, I wanted to include those seniors on that trip so that way they had the experience, but that was the only year that I did that. >> Okay. >> Juniors. Great. >> Any other questions? >> No. All right. So, we'll need a motion to approve the 2026 Washington DC trip. >> So, move. >> Okay. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> All right. Great. Thank you. >> Thanks, Dr. >> All right. So, we're jumping around a little bit. So, we're going to jump up to item number five now

um for the approval of minutes from the November 10th meeting. So, I'll need a a motion to approve the minutes. Shane second JT. All in favor? >> Yeah. >> You and >> Okay, got it. >> Okay. Administrative reports is done. Uh, opportunity to add or delete agenda items. Take that to no. Okay. On to the consent agenda. So, we'll need a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> So, move >> and second. Any discussion, questions? All in favor? >> Question. Is that still because we weren't like that still? Yep. All right. No old business. New business. We've got the Washington DC trip done. So, we'll move on to number two to approve a leave of absence extension for Courtney Subtle, 8th grade language arts teacher. Um, so I need a motion to approve the leave

of absence. >> So moved. See that second chain? Any question, discussion? >> I guess the only question is the current sub that's in place. Will she be continuing till the end of the year to provide the continuity or is there going to be a change? >> Not sure. >> Okay. >> All in favor? Right. unanimous again. All right. Committee reports, curriculum. >> That's on hold. Okay. Policy. >> Policy will not be meeting till January. Date to be determined. >> Mhm. >> All right. Planning and finance. >> So, we are next Monday. >> Yep. 5:00. >> Yeah. Just a question. So, it's just the members who are already currently on the committee, right? >> Not yet. >> Okay. >> Um, >> later question. Okay. >> It's cliffhanger. >> Got about that. >> Um, all right. Salary

negotiations. Charles, >> you got anything to report? No. >> He's all done reporting. >> Um, all right. So, that's on hold, too. raises from board. >> Um, >> all right. Building committee. >> Uh, building committee. We met last Tuesday. Angela's been working with Stephanie and Dr. Galloway to get the information for the grant application. The application becomes available online on December 1st. Must be submitted by December 10th. and everything we've heard should be no problem getting it in by the deadline. Supposedly, we will hear within 30 days of if it is accepted and how much. And in the meantime, uh the work is still being done for the total cost of the project. Um actually with a lot of suggestions from Paul Bahanowitz who's really gone through that page by page. So he's working with

members of the committee. The next meeting is December 2nd and that's when the committee will need to decide what is the actual figure that is being submitted on the application and um then from there we'll move along. The target date right now is still to actually start it in June. So we're we're thinking positive that once we find out about the the money that things will pick up speed. >> Okay. Great. Thank you. Uh CIP, >> uh no report. >> No report. Correct. >> We're on hold with that. We're going to need a correct representative, too. Um if anyone's excited to do that, I think it's an amazing opportunity for somebody. So, it's once a month. You can do it virtually. >> It's um not everybody at once, but just think about it. Uh SCF

uh SCF had their last meeting and uh reviewing grants uh which is always fun especially one in particular I'll note is for the SHS robotics program a very cool presentation and helping our students in high school with their robotics and artificial intelligence and automation um which is huge for them to have exposure to that type of technology and hands-on learning. Uh it wasn't just a cool grant. It was pretty remarkable that we have access to that here in our district. So, very, very exciting stuff. All of them were approved. I forgot the number, but I was behind the big check. I just didn't read it. So, beautiful stuff. Jan, unless you remember, I I forgot the number, but it was good. >> Yeah. >> Great. Thank you. Um, the advanced calendar, everyone's got one in

their packet. A couple dates of note on there. We have December 8th. We have the the board of ed team photo. Um, >> we're gonna pull that off this year. >> We hope. >> Yeah, we're gonna get that going this year. So, we're gonna meet again 10 minutes early. 6:50 in here on the 8th. >> Can't make that one. >> Okay. We're not going to do it on the eth. >> All right. Well, >> Ed will not be here. So, >> we need the whole family. >> We need everybody. So, all right. So, scratch that. We're going to change the date on that. >> We'll use AI and add them in. >> Oh my god. look better. >> All right, so on the 10th, the NHS induction ceremony. Um, another great event for for board

members to go to check that out. I think it's really it's really nice to go and it's important to the kids to see you there. So, if you do have the time to get over there, um, that would be nice. And then on the 13th of January, the same thing with the capstone presentations. Um, if you want to go to that, you can just check in with uh Tenley Staltz. She'll get you all signed up and and go in there and check those out. I've I've been unfortunately only once, but it was it was cool. It was cool to see all the the creativity. So, um Okay. Audience to citizens staff. >> Oh, the gift giving. Yes. Um, also on the ETH is the uh the board event gift giving. We have the the email

went out. So, we'll have all that stuff here for the ETH. Um, so we can get all that taken care of and package. >> I think everyone responded to me. >> Yes. >> And even if there's a duplicate, it doesn't matter that someone gets more than one pairs of pants. It's not a matter. The only key is that you don't wrap it. >> You bring the wrapping paper. >> Is there anything else we need? Do you think >> No, I think we've got everything on the list. I kind of checked it off as you replied >> and some people are giving gift cards. So, I I think we're going to have a great great gift back. >> Okay. >> Hypothetically, if a board member has the gift in their pickup truck, uh would they be

able to leave it early or should we wait until the 8th? >> No, they're here early. >> They're here early or I just don't want it to get lost. All of our gifts are going to be in foot the two corners of this room. >> And then the deadline for everybody else is the day after the board meeting. Got it. >> So we have room anytime that day in here. >> Okay. Perfect. Yeah. >> Is that Will that work for you? >> Yeah. >> If you're not going to be here, >> right? >> You can drop it off. >> We have to bring wrapping paper. Great. >> You can bring wrapping tape and then the parent gets to wrap up the gift which makes it even nicer. >> Great. >> All right. Audience, the citizens,

staff, and students. >> This public comment. >> Yeah. >> Uh Jim Burrell. Um, I am citizen of Summers and a six-year substitute teacher here at Summers Public Schools. And I just wanted to congratulate all the new members and thank all nine of you for serving because you all know it's not an easy job. Takes a lot of your time and we really appreciate it. And I'm really impressed with the bipartisan nature of how this board works together. >> Thank you all. Anybody else? >> Actually, I just like to take the opportunity real quick just to apologize to the whole group. >> Last week I was at the the library board and it went off without a hitch. I was there 15 minutes early and I even had this note on the book and my mistake

was I didn't put it out on the counter this afternoon. I was talking about coming here all morning. So, I don't know what what happened. So, I don't want to apologize. It all worked out. >> We're flexible. Yeah, we're >> Bill got out early. >> We're good with pivot. >> Um, all right. So, before we adjourn, um, Kim brought up a good point about who's going to be at the at the, um, planning and finance meeting next week. So, if everyone could email me their top two committees that they want to be on by Friday, then we can start to organize the committees and and move forward into the >> In the meantime, should the two who are still on it come? It would be or it's me, you and Ed, right? >> Yeah. >>

Or no, or do we have to >> Whoever is on the new one. >> Oh, got it. Okay. >> Yeah. So, by all the new ones by Friday. So once I get those I don't >> to email you tomorrow or tonight. >> Mhm. >> You want to let you know before we begin? >> Yeah, you can tell me before you leave. Sure. >> Yeah. So that'd be nice if if I had them by Friday. Then we can get them out by Friday, too. >> So then everyone will know by the meeting. >> And then will you send something out to all of us >> and then we'll all >> Yep. I'll let everyone know. I'll put a reminder on there too about the uh the gifts and everything. So everyone knows that. >> Great. Okay.

All right. So, I will need a motion to adjurnn. >> That usually comes. >> Okay. Motion to adjurnn. >> Second. >> Okay. All in favor. >> All right. Well done. >> We are meeting to adjourn. 7:49. How many people just lost?
