school AI resource is set for you, not what you are specifically doing because each one of you are doing a different project, but it knows the guidelines and the parameters that I have set of what your capstone must do. Being one teacher in one building, there's nobody else that teaches what I do. having the technology of school AI and having the technologies of students having devices that they can readily use and then having the support if something's going wrong with a device or with a software or if there's a new software out there that information services does their best to figure out the best way for us to be able to incorporate that new technology into our classrooms to keep up with the everanging world of information services. When I used other AIs, it would
just give me the answer and I might have gotten it like right, but didn't understand one thing about it. School AI really gets you going through each step and phase of it that you really understand. So even after finishing a code, I remember almost every bit. This is like a photo resistor. So it basically like detects how like bright it is in the room. So I coded it so that uh each light turns off after a certain like threshold of brightness in the room. So, for example, if I put my finger getting a little close, first one will turn on, second, third, and then back on. >> Um, I used to hate school AI and it's actually been really helpful because school AI is a lot more structured and it won't just give you the
answers, it'll help you find them. >> School AI is a resource designed by the school and the number of guard rails this thing has on it. So it will not like just do it for you. It's sometimes infuriating even when you're trying to like when you're not trying to do anything malicious when you're just like it will give sort of circular and frustrating answers to questions sometimes. But that's airing on the side of caution. Certainly they get very frustrated right at the beginning because they are instant gratification and that's how most of the AI is in their world. They have gotten on AI. They ask a question they get the answer. Write me a paragraph about this and it does it. But using school AI, you have the opportunity to set the parameters that says
no, you actually have to go through the process to learn it. >> All right. So, this is actually a conversation I had with school AI earlier today when I had was in class here. Like every time it asked a question, maybe I didn't necessarily type back into this, but I was I was updating my notebook. I was look looking up other things on my other screen. I was talking to the teacher and other students. I was I was making real progress. And whenever I was like, "Okay, what do I do now?" Now, I went back to the AI and it gave me a whole bunch of further things that I could be doing and it was really valuable to keep me on track making progress and doing what I needed to be doing in addition
to other resources. You can't run a class on this alone, but it's a nice thing to have. It's a really good opportunity for students to learn how to effectively use it as a resource in all classes as long as parameters are set to train them. That's what we do in schools for math, for English, for social studies. Our whole goal as teachers are to teach them how to be exposed to that information, how to take that information in, and then how to utilize that information. >> What is going to surprise teachers about how students are using AI? What on this list is going to surprise teachers when they see this? They will. They'll see it. >> Because I think so many teachers think you're just using it to cheat and find the easier answer, and
they don't realize that AI can also help break down like problems. So like if it's not sometimes they can break it down because it's hard to like always come to teachers cuz they have so many students. So AI can help like reiterate and explain something to like that adjust to your learning style. So I think that might surprise teachers cuz they might just assume we're just using it for like the easy answer when in reality it helps us like >> how many people feel like it's a tutor tutor. It's a real time tutor. >> I am actually using these particular students to vet this particular space. We then got into a much deeper dive on how they use it, when they use it, why they use it, and how going forward that is changing some
of their life choices. As seniors in high school, they really are going to not only be faced with AI and decisions they have to make, but how can it be powerful for them? >> This is a tool to help us. there's questions that you can ask it that it won't give you responses back because it's specifically for education purposes only and to help you with your schoolwork. So I think it's important for um you know students and parents to understand that this is at the end of the day going to help our learning rather than hindering it when you have something that's helping you learn faster and then giving you more information back cuz also teachers can always be there and help you with stuff. So, when you have a source that is like a
teacher approved and is giving you information, it's easier to learn. >> If we're not learning how to use it within school, by the time we get to college and just really the adult world, we're not going to have that basic skill >> because it's not going to go anywhere once you leave the school. It's going to be in the workplace. It's going to take jobs. So, we really need to learn how to use it effectively. >> We have new technology that's being created. We should be able to use it. And also jobs are now like implementing AI into their businesses. And my mother is actually getting learning on teaching how to use AI. So if we don't know how to use AI now, it's just going to hurt us more when we're getting to jobs.
>> Our job as educators is to help prepare kids for the future. So we need to expose them to AI now and learning how to use AI as a tool instead of a solution.
