001Jeff. Oh, it's seven. Okay. Eight with me. Oh, I'm in I am there. Okay. Uh, so we're going to call the meeting to order at 8:00. And do we have anybody in the lobby for public comment? Okay, next up is admin. So, I sent out the um January 22nd minutes. >> Motion to accept. >> I get a motion to approve. >> Yes. >> I'll make a motion. >> Okay. >> To approve the minutes. >> Thank you, Yen. Second. >> I'll second. >> Thank you, Vince. Any comments or corrections? Okay. All those in favor? I >> I wasn't there. I have to abstain. >> Okay. Uh abstain. Okay. So then we've got uh station policies which uh not done or we're going to have to just pick a day and do them. >> That works. I

002know. >> Can you take the lead on just scheduling us for an hour and we see how far we get? And Amanda, did you say you wanted to join? No pressure. Can't hear you. >> Yeah, I don't mind. I can join. >> Okay. All right. So, Laura's going to schedule me. All right. Great. Okay. We're under finance. Um so, we're on track for this fiscal year spending. Uh and on next year, um I just looked at the first elect's budget. They did she did not change anything that we asked for. So that's good. It's on to the board of finance now. And our hearing is uh March 19th at uh I don't know 8 or 8:30. I got to double check. Put it somewhere. Do you have the list of bill Andy? >> Uh I'll

003I'll pull it up momentarily. I'm working on something right now. >> Just double check the time. I We're first on the agenda. Lara. Hi Jeff. >> Hello. Um, so Laura, if you could be on the call, too, just in case there's any technical questions, that would be awesome. >> Absolutely. >> Um, all right. So, it's 3:19. Okay. Uh, so any questions on any of the finance stuff? >> Uh, Kate, it's 8:30 a.m. >> 8:30. Oh, thank you. Okay. So, uh, you'll be sending out, Bill, you'll be sending out meeting invites when the time is right. Okay. All right. Cool. Um, all right. Then on to programming. Programming. Um, first, Kay Bolan sent out the her um student videos. There was a C-SPAN student cam competition and she had two classes that submitted videos. um she

004had given awards for the top three or acknowledgements for the top three students in each class and then the best in class. So I edited those together and those are actually currently running on the station now. So they're also available on video on demand and then I'm going to pull them out separately and keep them available for interstitials. >> So there's a total of six. >> Yes. And then before each show, I gave a brief, you know, I put in some titles to give a brief description of what you're about to watch and then the name of each piece with the student names and then the best a little best-in-class designation for the two. >> Okay. And the then two of them were submitted to the competition and we don't know yet how we did.

005>> I don't know. I don't know. >> Yeah. I don't think uh I think I looked online and I I don't think there's winners up yet, but okay. All right. So, that is very cool and we should definitely be promoting that because that's a great example of um you know, student creative work. >> Absolutely. >> And I saw I think I saw two of the two of them and they're like, "Wow, >> these kids >> took this really seriously and did some really nice work." Yes. >> Larry, you said they're on video on demand. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And then you're going to use them separately as interstitial, right? >> Correct. >> Okay. So that is that um >> and that is by the way is the result of Katie Bolan applying and getting

006selected to go this go go to the C-SPAN educator you know forum over the summer and then that's how she found out about the competition and then brought it back to her students. So you know it's we wouldn't I don't think we would really would have known about it if she hadn't been down there in DC. Katie, I'm sorry. Which teacher is it? >> Katie Bolan. >> Okay, that's what I figured. >> Yeah. So, she just keeps finding these ways, right, to tie the kids into, you know, things that push them creatively, make them think more. It's great. It's to give them different ways to present their knowledge instead of just a test or a presentation. It's >> it, you know, for the kids, it makes it more meaningful >> and it gives, you know,

007lets them work different muscles. >> Okay. What else you got, Laura? >> Uh, spring, well, the winter basketball season is wrapping up. Um, spring sports start in the beginning of April, so we got a little bit of downtime before sports starts. Um, I have made the executive decision that we're not going to live stream home spring sports just because I don't want the equipment outside that much. >> Um, just to keep it safe. >> Um, >> what about like boys B boys volleyballs inside? >> I'm okay with volleyball. I just my concern is if I leave it in the athletic office, I don't want the assumption to be that it can be taken outside. >> Okay. So I have to make that very clear to the videographers because sometimes you know students kind of make

008assumptions. So even though I make things clear >> well and I was I would also tell um like Dan >> Newman >> because he loves to enforce rules and >> and he's so thrilled that the equipment is taking up space in his area of the office too. Now >> let me know if he gives you a hard time. I'll have a chat. >> Yeah, he he you know it's it's fine. >> But again, if you tell him this is not to be used for outside, you know, he >> Yeah, >> he will ask the question and make sure it's I mean, what else is inside besides volleyball? Uh >> nothing in the spring. Everything else is um you know, baseball, softball, lacrosse. >> Okay. All right. What else we got? Couple other things. Um, not

009to jump too technical yet, but um, I had some training for the new system and if we want, we can actually further sort video on demand right now. Um, it's like if you go to the video on demand page, I don't know if I can actually I could probably share this um, if I have the ability. Let me see. Share. this one. Um, like if you look at the page and scroll down, see how there's government meetings and then we have adult education, music, sport, school events, and then sports. We can actually drill down further. So if we want to sort the government meetings say all board of ed all board of finance all a particular type of meeting and then if we wanted to do sports say boys basketball girls basketball volleyball um we

010can. So that's just something I wanted to throw out if that's something we'd like to do moving forward. >> I think people would find that useful. they wouldn't have to search so hard. >> Okay. I mean, I'll start with the government by um you know, boards and commissions and then as time permits, you know, things like sports, maybe school and separate concerts versus counseling programs and adult education can be things like, you know, library programs versus senior center programs, things like that. Um, and then the last thing that I had for um, programming, I actually have a question. I'm looking for suggestions because that um, the little promo we have on top of the homepage about the app has been up there for a long time. So, I was just wondering if there's anything we

011wanted to promote on the homepage instead, just to kind of change it up a little, like if we want to talk about that. We're adding captions to our content or anything like that. >> Yeah, I'd say I would say it should change monthly if we can. I mean, just to a rotating either event that we're promoting or a capability that we're promoting. Amanda to jump in here. >> Yeah, I I agree. You know, um that's far better. I was just I'm trying to go to the site just so I can kind of see. Um Yeah. And Larara, it doesn't have necessarily have to be a a video in that space. We could just make it an image or we could do a rotator too. >> Yeah, it could be a slideshow. >> Yeah. Um and

012that way we're we're changing it up. So, I think that the um close caption is a great thing to promote. And if we if we keep it as a slideshow, we might even be able to keep the app in it as well. >> And I can do that as a static image also. >> Yeah. So, >> and a static image is, you know, again, I can create those obviously I can create that quicker. So, that's more things we can add and swap out, >> right? highlight a specific program each month or you know something that that we want people I think like the C-SPAN thing would be great you know >> yes >> um we could almost break it down by um kind of like tools um so you know closed caption as a tool

013the app is a tool students which is part of who we um are working for and then government and highlight something. >> I would highlight the spring sports schedule. >> Oh, that's a good idea, too. >> That's a good idea. >> Yeah. And sports. So, between those four, we can just keep constantly rotating and putting something up, >> right? And like I said, creating a static a single image is very easy to swap in and pull out things as they expire. >> And I can help you with that if you need help because I know you're you've got a lot. >> Yeah. Why don't you guys brainstorm and get that going with some things like closed captioning that'll stay up? Right. >> Right. Right. The event related stuff. Right. >> Right. Because the captions in

014the app could be, you know, static and then like you said, we rotate other things in as they're timely and >> Right. That's a great idea. you know, and then, you know, Matt, to your point, if it's a monthly thing, we can highlight, you know, sports a month at a time because there's a lot, you know, as you know, there are spring sports. There's five sports that we'll be covering. Baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse, and boys volleyball. So, for April alone, there's a ton of stuff to cover. So, >> yeah. And just taking a a still shot of one of the videos, you know, highlighting one of the students in an action shot would be cool to use as a background. >> Yeah, definitely. >> Definitely. Because I can I mean, we have stuff

015from last year that I can grab easily. >> You could just pull, right? Yeah. >> So, that is that's where I'm at for programming. Um I'm sorry, >> I'm sorry. I just have one question about the um menu on the video on demand. >> Yes. What will what will that look like? Will it continue across in the banner for each section? >> Is it a drop down? >> Honestly, I don't know because I have not done it yet. So, we could do it if we, you know, again, I can um >> I was just curious, you know, what the interface was going to be like for that. That's all. >> I can send an email. Um, sorry, I'm just making a note. I can send an email to um my support person and ask if

016she can send a screenshot of what it looks like >> so we can so do you want me to move on to program uh to technical rather? >> Sure. >> Okay. Um technical. Well, the good news is that our new server has been swapped out. It's been running. Um so far so good. Yay. >> We were down for a short period of time just to switch everything over, but it was quick and easy. I've worked with Tim before. Um he's great. So again, that was done nice and quickly. Um I part of that is excuse me, two hours of training. I had one hour of that with um again a service rep that I've worked with many times before. She's fantastic. She's given me um a lot of really great information. Um, I actually cancelled

017the second hour because I wanted to reschedu it for when I've used, you know, just when I come across stuff and again, so that I have questions, you know, like to Amanda's point, what does it look like when we sort the VOD further down and if I have specific questions, I wanted to make sure that, you know, I had good questions to make use of that hour. So, that's that will be coming. Um, the new PC is here. Thank you, Jeff. Um, I had there were just a couple other things that, you know, like I I'm not here every day. Pat was not feeling well. Um, and he's got, you know, a bazillion things to do and places to be. So, um, I had just sent Jeff an email just with a couple final things

018that are, you know, that I'm coming across as I use them. Um there's another thing that something that I learned that we can do um with this new server is that instead we I know that we had discussed a while back using um Amazon Glacier and Yenz and I had had this discussion a while ago and then it kind of went dormant for a while. But um with this new server we can use network accessed storage. So, we can expand the storage on the server with that and we can use that as an archive if we choose. Um, just as a for instance, I did a little bit of looking. Um, you know, like everything else, nothing is cheap, but 32 uh terabytes of storage would be $1,500, but that could store four to five

019years of content. >> $1,500 per year or >> no, just for the unit. And that's a one time purchase. >> Okay. But it could hold, you know, four to five years of content. >> Okay. >> Um, >> how much are we able to currently hold >> the server right now? Um, I don't know how much this new one holds, but the old one held about I think it was maybe f I forget how many. I can't I'll be wrong if I guess off the top of my head, but I think we held government I held government meetings for about a year. And then um all the other content I tried to purge after six to 12 months. So it fails about 18 months. Um I've been storing things on external hard drives. But >> that

020was my next question. >> Yeah. I've been storing them on external hard drives. One of them has failed. So you know over time sitting around they Yeah. So um >> well that's I think part of our um policy discussion is how long we should be you know holding things and then that drives into the okay then where are we going to where are we going to put it >> right and a network access drive again if we do offer for NAS like a NAS drive um it doesn't have to be 32 terabytes that's just a you know just a number to give like I said it would hold about four or five years of content I know that based on um was it foyer bill. I don't think we need to hold more than 6

021to 12 months, but we do it as a courtesy. And I do often get requests for older, you know, not all the time, but at least once or twice a year, somebody will say, "Oh, hey, do you have X?" Like the planning and zoning meetings from 2019 because a project that was brought up then is being revisited. I do keep the prior year's budget hearings because people do like to look for those. Um, but you know, again, it's usually it's planning and zoning or ZBA when that sort of thing. And I know with um, you know, with the senior center referendum, I I would presume that moving forward, people are going to want to look for some of those older meetings as well. >> We are not the record. No. >> So, we just want

022to remember that the minutes of those meetings are the record. We're >> correct. >> Supplementary, you know. >> There's another slide. Lara, do you ever have do you ever have students asking for um sports for doing reels for like D1, D2, things like that? >> No, we actually don't. There are plenty I know there are parents who actually like or then there are businesses that do that. >> Yeah, I just wasn't sure if anybody had ever asked. >> We've never come to TCTV. I know a lot of the booster clubs have students record the videos. I'm not sure if it's for that or if they grab it for NFHS. >> Yeah. Okay. >> I mean, I think the reviewing that's happening, I mean, because we're not like focused on one player, which if you're trying

023to do a >> Right. Absolutely. Yeah. >> But what they do use it for is looking at games, you know, against opponents they played before to, you know, to do some pre-planning for an upcoming game. >> Right. Okay. >> Highlights review. Laura, I have some technical questions we could talk later about the storage unit. >> That would be great. That would actually be super helpful because again, that's something that can actually um that can go on the rack in the server room. And then um the software actually uh that we use tightroppe is act, you know, actually has the capability to write um programming to that backup drive. And then if we do want to pull it either to run programming or just for you know just to have we can do that. >> Yeah.

024And also how that storage is structured because there's >> Yeah. >> There's nuances there. >> Of course there is. >> So that's also going to be important to understand as we set our policy. So, let's make sure those conversations are happening because we don't want to set a policy that either >> we we can't execute from a storage standpoint or we're not taking advantage of whatever capabilities we have. >> Right. >> Does that make sense? >> I have I have a quick quick question. the so this package solution doesn't include an archiving you mentioned um AWSS3 or a backup or an archive because we really need to have the data in two places if we want to make sure I >> I was going to say that as well I mean NAS storage is great

025because it's local it's going to be faster from the server but you want to have a some type of what I like about cloud storage is it's backed up it's on a it's on a server array as opposed to just >> even though NAS servers you have um their own raid arrays. They're still not foolproof. They still can go down. >> I'm still I'm thinking water damage or fire or theft or you know, anything that you can think of >> as I'm dealing with bursted pipes all over. So, yeah, it's it's a real thing. >> I'm just Yeah. And I'm just thinking back to the um the uh driving lesson. >> Yeah. When the car drove into our duty. >> Oh. Oh, yeah. end. Yeah. >> Yeah. The sky's is the limit. I mean, nothing

026is off the chart. >> Well, for backup, the standard rule is 321. Three copies, two locations, one off site. >> Yeah. >> And also AWS. >> We need we need a little committee, Yens, Matt, uh, Laura, Jeff to >> There are there are raids and there are raids and there are raids. there. There's like the best would be X, you know, ZFS, but I know we're getting into the weeds here. So, >> I agree. >> That's a discussion. Yeah. >> So, if you guys can can have that conversation and come back with a recommendation on what we should do that's going to provide adequate backup and some idea what kind of costs we're talking about. So, um we probably have a little wiggle room in next year's budget. Um I I would think you want

027to start by how much how the volume of data you think you're going to need in store and then we can try to give you a solution off of that and pricing because a lot of >> save everything forever. >> That's not realistic. >> No, but that's the request. >> The answer is no. Well, we I think, you know, if they want to go that far back, I can just give them the uh you know, the micro DVDs, the you know, the little micro video tapes if they want to go figure it out. So, >> don't we have some floppy discs? >> Wait, there's data tape is digital. We got this. Yeah, those tiny v digital video tapes. We have like a whole shelf full of them from like 2013. So, hey, if somebody wants

028to go that far back, go for it. Are we What's our policy on charging people for getting stuff out of archiving? Um, is it just part of the service or >> We haven't updated that in forever. It used to be that we created DVDs and they had to come to the library to pick them up. So, we would charge them I think 20 bucks. >> Okay. >> Which is part of the reason why we need to update our >> because now we you know we point them somewhere. We don't like give them anything. We just say go to video on demand or whatever. Right, Laura. >> Right. Right. Or to YouTube. And again, you know, as Yen says, as you've posed, the question you've posed several times is how long do they hold things? So,

029we don't know. >> All right. So, yeah, that would be useful if you guys could convene on that topic. Um, so that when we write policy, we've we are it makes sense, >> right? >> And it and it gives us some context for making budget decisions on how much we should spend. But in principle, uh, we are allowed to charge users for the service of getting stuff out of the archive. There's nothing in >> in theory. Yeah. I mean, there's nothing. Nobody's said we can't. We just haven't since we stopped, you know, copying CDs for people. >> USB sticks. >> Pardon me. >> Bring your own. Yeah, bring your own USB stick. So, all right. What do we got next? >> Um, oh, I have two more things for capt for um technical. The first

030is captioning. I um and I just wanted to revisit as um Matt had was kind enough to do some looking around um and recommended Simon Says. So, um I I had >> Simon says for what? Um, for some reason when I go to transcribe meetings, the Premiere Pro does not like to transcribe meetings um from the long hill room. I don't know what it is about that audio. It just doesn't like it. So, we, you know, we will need we that's just for um programming where Premiere Pro's AI captioning does not work for whatever reason. So it, you know, this is just a backup for us to have notes, but now everything is all all. So um I think we should um I'll look into Simon says. I will get um like I'll put a

031proposal of sorts together just so we can either sign up or create an account as needed. Um I think it's an alle cart system and I forget the cost per hour. >> Okay. So you're going to come back with a proposal. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And then the last thing is the next phase of ADA compliance. This was a little mind-blowing. Um because again this is this is like Kate this is like the ABCs of the board of ed budget with unfunding unfunded mandates. The next phase of ADA compliance is audio descriptions. And I which yeah, I don't know I'm still not 100% sure how this works in real life because like and I sat in on a webinar by a company called Mediascribe. I know they're not the only company that does this,

032but it was just so I could get some information about how it works. And basically when there's a long enough lull, AI just describes what's happening on the screen. >> And it's called what? What is it called? >> This particular service is called Mediascribe. But these are audio descriptions. But Mediascribe is $4,000 for a hundred hours of AI description. So this is where the whole like Yeah, this is where I start. It started reminding me, like I said, of these, you know, education unfunded mandates because >> Yeah. basically what you're getting in the description is like soft mumbling and light laughter and gentle music plays, that sort of thing that comes in >> exactly >> if if you don't understand what's going on. >> My question was when does this part have to be >>

033what year is this part of it? I believe based on our size as a town, we are not required to have phase one implemented until April of 27. I'd have to double check. I'm pretty sure this I want to say this is 2028. >> I wonder if between now and then other services will come out that are >> there are yeah there are other services. Um this was just like I said they were offering a webinar. I think they're under the cablecast umbrella because their logo is, you know, they have a similar logo and it was available, you know what I mean? It was it was a webinar and it was just me getting some information because I know we don't need to act on this right away. It was just to kind of put

034this out there as something we need to start thinking about. Um, and I did a quick Google search and there are other companies. So I you know moving forward I will as I have time I will be doing some more research to see what other companies are available. Um and then you know because a lot a lot of them I'm finding are more geared towards networks larger companies. I don't know what else is geared towards peg stations. So and I think moving forward as you said Amanda I think there's going to be more availability. >> Okay. I I think well actually I know that it it's part of the Dainci studio software. It it'll do the transcription and it'll also do the um the audio description. >> So I would presume that Premiere Pro that

035Adobe would roll that into their products moving forward as well because they've already got the AI transcribing. >> Yeah. Um, I mean, as far as cost goes, the um forever version or copy of um Da Vinci is 295 bucks and then you own it, including updates. So, this was $5,000 for how much? >> Was $4,000 for a 100 hours of AI description? But I'm just like trying to understand like I can under I understand when I watch have closed captioning on stuff that I'm watching when it says, you know, background laughter, you know, sound of a stream, >> you know, going by like when are we going to have any of those things happening that need to be described, I guess, is what I'm getting at. That's what I need to kind of mull over

036too because I was wondering the exact same thing >> because if it's not it's not a description of oh there's 12 people in the room if you can't see. Um >> I have a sample in my email but right now again I Jeff this is in the email I sent you. Um I'm having an issue logging into my email on the new machine but once I get on I will forward um I'll forward the email to the commission because I was sent a link. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Um I think it came yesterday when everything was going on. >> Um but it was like a a demo so you could take a look. Oh, wait. Here. Yeah. Audio description sample. Um it's a sample. Oh, it's Oh, it says

037we can send a sample file or an entire meeting using a link and then they'll send um we have to give feedback and then they'll send the file complete with audio descriptions. I mean in in our case it would be you know motorcycle without muffler passing the town hall during the fourth of July celebrations or something like that. That's about it. >> Yeah. >> Or moms for liberty >> creating a ruckus >> at the back. Something like that. >> That's what I'm getting at. Not sure what sounds there are that are part of the narrative of what's happening. >> Applause would be a good one for, you know, remember the senior center meeting. You could say applause or booze or or whatever. That would make it more interesting, too. >> But again, it's more, you

038know, this is for somebody who, you know, people with vision impairment who aren't able to see what's going on. So, we're >> Oh, yeah. You know that's because the captioning again the captioning are for people who are hard of hearing. The audio descriptions are people who are vision impaired. So, I'm just trying to think where again I think I think that's just something I'm going to have to keep front of mind as I'm editing. Like where is this going to be appropriate? >> Because we usually edit out things like say a school concert where it's like, you know, ensemble leaving the stage, you know, groups of children carrying chairs and music stands. Like that's not stuff that we're going to leave in. >> That's also sound way too innocent if you've actually been there. It's

039it's a it's a war zone, but >> band director attempting to herd kittens. Yeah. >> Yeah, exactly. >> All right. Well, it's on our radar. We'll continue to try to understand what we need to do and >> um understand what technology is available for us to tackle it when we need to tackle it. >> Exactly. Like I said, I just wanted to put this on everybody's radar more than anything. >> Okay, sounds good. All right, marketing. Amanda, >> hello. Hello. >> Hello. >> Uh, so, um, I reached out to Drew, uh, just this past week, actually, um, to talk about the social media, but I haven't heard back from him. Um, thank you for that info, Kate, because I wasn't sure what I could offer to him if he can do it. Um, >> I

040also have a backup. My my okay >> my niece uh >> does that stuff. I mean, she's in the music industry, but she's looking for some, you know, just some backup stuff as she figures out where she's going to be. So, I can connect the two of you. >> Okay. >> Certainly something she could do on the side for you, I think. >> Yeah, that would be great. >> Okay. Her name is >> Mave Hamford. Okay. Um, I don't think it's a a ton of work, but it's definitely a weekly kind of thing. So, um, yes. Oh, and then, uh, Bill, thank you for, well, and Lara, thank you for getting me into the website and then setting up the, uh, monster, uh, insights. Um, that was very interesting to see. Um we had in

041February 505 page views um with 697 sessions. So that means that people were the same people were coming back. That was up almost 100% over the previous month. So that was interesting. Um, our bounce rate is very high and I'm trying to figure out if that is because people then click and go back out to watch something if that's considered a bounce or not. But this is all good data for me to be able to at least have a baseline as we move forward to see if we're getting the number of sessions up and the number of page views. Um, and really I think my focus right now is just, you know, I'll I'll reach out to Mave also, um, is to get the social media going and then Larara to work with you on

042that um, homepage because then we can also tie that into social media as well. Um, and then my other question is more of a logistical thing in terms of what we're promoting. I'm wondering what the percentage of live on YouTube versus live on the channel versus video on demand I should be focusing on because I feel as though the video on demand is probably the easiest from a social media standpoint. That way it's whenever somebody comes across it, they can then go watch the video. Obviously, I I put up the board of finance meeting with the board of education on uh what was that? Tuesday night. Um because that was going to be live. But I just didn't know if there's, you know, a a percentage that we're looking for. Um if anybody had any

043thoughts on that. >> Um Amanda, I before I just before we I answer that question, um did I email you? There's a Google ID for VOD. Did I email that to you? >> Maybe I'll have to check out. >> Did I do it in my head? I don't remember. But we have that ID and I'll get that to you so we can track that. And then I can also um >> if you want to like when you want specifics, you can shoot me an email and I can tell you how many times a particular VOD VODs were. So I can export those and send you those as CSV files if you want if there's anything you want to pull out. Yeah, that would that would be great because then I can kind of what I'd

044like to see is if that is where our bounce rate is so high. It's not necessarily a bad bounce for us, but that they're bouncing over to watch something. So, >> okay. Yeah, if you want to shoot me an email with like what you're looking for, I'll pull that. >> Okay, perfect. >> I mean, I think for the next month or two, people's focus is on the budget. >> Budget, >> right? So there's and there's a lot of activity around the education budget in particular. So I think uh from a promotion standpoint, you know, >> that's what we should be focusing on. >> Yeah. They'll they'll be both people that want to watch stuff live streaming. Um and then there's others that are going, you know, that won't be able to watch live and then

045we'll want to watch it as soon as possible afterwards. Laura, does that make sense? >> Yes. >> Yeah. I know at the board of finance the other night they couldn't fit everybody in so everybody in the hall was you know going to watch it live stream so you know we hit capacity pretty quickly. >> Yeah we had almost 1,250 views of uh the meeting on YouTube. >> Wow. >> Which is huge. There was a lot of chatter on Facebook about people who couldn't get in. So I was posting that link a lot. Okay. >> And I think they have talked about or looked at bigger venues, but the, you know, the problem is like if you go to Madison, we have to, you know, gear up the the streaming capability, but then the ability for

046people to call in for the public hearings to call in and, you know, make their comments, we we don't have that capability there. So, it gets tricky, right? trying to provide all the the technical accessibility both to participate and to watch. Um, >> right. >> People always understand that we don't have the ability to do everything everywhere. >> But I mean, if if if if the room is too small, then you just have to wait outside. That's just a loss of physics, you know. If you're I don't know how you can complain about that. That's really >> people complain >> Well, let me rephrase that. Oh, they complain about it. Yeah. Gra gravity makes me too heavy. >> Scratch that from the um from the minutes. Okay. >> I didn't write it down, believe me.

047So, I think just, you know, just awareness, right, that this is this is a I think a hotter than usual budget season and we just want to make sure >> we're letting people know what's on when. >> Yep. >> Okay. All right. I'd like to complain about the fact that you were going to scratch that from the minutes, but well, people do watch. Uh, we do get a few views. I I will I have to say when I went through the day, you know, the data to present to the the town on viewership that our show our meetings do get some views. >> Yeah, they do. >> YouTube. Yeah, according to YouTube, we have three views right now. So, >> I used I used YouTube because I could only watch it live for a little

048bit, but I wanted to make sure I saw everything. So, I I went back and and watched the rest of it. So, um I think you you know hot buttons and things that are important to people in the town. Obviously, they're going to do it. So, um >> and our job is to make stuff available, right? >> Right. >> Yep. And mine is, you know, to make sure that they know that it's there. >> They know about it. So, >> all right. And that's all I have right now. Is there anything else anybody feels needs to be promoted or that we should that should be on my radar? That would be helpful. >> Well, I think we can see in the numbers when you started working on this stuff and I think it's going to

049become clearer and clearer honestly. >> Definitely. >> Yeah. >> Which is very cool. >> And then I have one more marketing about the swag. Um, I have not moved forward on purchasing only because I had asked the videographers if they preferred because Matt had the great suggestion of some inclement weather gear. >> So, I had priced out ponchos, which are waterproof, and jackets, which are waterresistant. Um, I asked the videographers their feedback. I only heard from three. Um, one preferred the poncho, two preferred the jackets. Um, honestly, if waterproof outerw wear is needed, >> the cameras shouldn't be outside anyway. Um, is my thought. And I don't mind, you know, I don't mind what we get. Poncho versus jacket. But I don't want to buy ponchos and have them not be used. Do you know

050what I mean? I would rather buy something that's going to get used. So that I'm kind of leaning towards the jacket in that regard because I feel that people will use them more. >> Yeah. Um, and at this point, you know, I don't know that they need to be, like I said, I don't know that they need to be waterproof. I think water resistant is probably sufficient. So, I'll move forward and I'll get a specific quote um from Amanda NADP and she did our I think she did the she did the um the wicking um polos for the station and I don't remember if she did the caps and the beanies or not, but she always does great work. I've worked with her for um the marching band and the winter ensembles and her their

051stuff they always get us great stuff. So, I will keep you posted um Amanda and Kate of the pricing um and quantity and then when we're ready, I'll just I'm thinking if you know again if >> I'm presuming that like you know a dozen is going to be the quantity and then I'm just going to order larger sizes because if it's something that's water resistant, you know, and it might be a little inclement, I want people to be able to fit it like over a hoodie or something. >> Right. >> Okay. Last last thing is uh Trouble High. >> Trouble High. Jeff is not in right now. He um he had an appointment, but he's coming in later. And the We're working great. He's got some fantastic ideas. Um he and I have been brainstorming

052a lot of stuff. I told him about the um C-SPAN um competition, which he was really psyched about. Um, we've talked about, you know, how his digital media class can sort of cross over with other classrooms, you know, to this point. Um, just we're trying to find as many opportunities for students as possible. I have mentioned a um you know for TCTV to have some crossover to do almost like a best of digital media type programming package on the station if the kids you know have give us permission to do that. So he's open to that. Um trying to think of what else. I feel like we've been like he's definitely been brainstorming a lot of stuff in terms of like service hours for the kids, you know, in terms of recording things. Um, >>

053how's the new set coming? >> That I don't know. I have no answers for that unfortunately, but I can find out. >> And what about the curriculum that you sent out that like I just want to go back to high school after reading that. >> I know. What's the what is the process for that? >> Um Jeff had presented that to the curriculum committee and they were very receptive. And it's funny because all of the curriculum members were like, "Oh, do you know Lara over at TCTV?" He's like, "Yeah, we're already working together." Like, "Yeah, that's great." So, um yeah, which is fantastic. And they they had really they were very supportive of it. >> Okay. um you know and then and moving forward like he's got kids in digital media one and digital media

0542 now um is handing over um he has handed over the producing end of the daily announcements to the students. Um and now they're just sort of seeing they're getting a dose of reality and what it's like having to manage other people that you can't really control. So, that's been interesting. >> Um, yeah, like waiting for those waiting for those B-roll pieces like they're they're actually going through a redesign. What they've decided um as a group is that the announcements, what they want to do is make sort of like a have the anchors kind of record like a menu and just sort of give some topline details about the features that are coming and then include the weather and the sports in that package, but not include those in-depth stories, but rather include links to

055them. And then what um Jeff had come up with is that his digital media classes are going to be producing that extra content because the kids in the club were getting a little overwhelmed with having to do all the things. So that's >> since I have someone in digital media too, I can tell you that it's great because he's having them work on um smaller packages almost like intros to what their feature will be about um that can be used as promotion and then into the full feature. So very cool to see. Very cool. >> Yeah, he's doing a great job and the kids love it. It's awesome. So, as I said before, I um you know, I have told him that I am on board with helping in any way that I can, especially

056with regard to TCTV. And if we can, you know, sort of cross-pollinate and cross-promote, which is why I suggested like that best of digital media, um I am more than happy to either run them as interstitials. Again, the same with the C-SPAN student camp pieces. I'm happy to run those as interstitials. I'm happy to run those as um uh you know like I package them together as a program. So, and I've just been kind of you know just sharing ideas with him as they come up and he's been super open to that and and vice versa. >> So, Laura, you said they you said they um presented the new curriculum to the curriculum committee, but it still needs to be approved by the board of ed, right? Um, >> I think that's the order of

057>> I I'm not sure where in the process it is because he presented it I don't remember the timeline. I'd have to double check the minutes of the board of ed meetings. >> Oh, so he presented it at a board of ed meeting. >> No, he presented it at a a curriculum committee meeting. >> Um, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know if it's been presented to the board of ed yet. >> I don't recall seeing it in anything that I've edited. Okay. Anybody have anything else? >> Yeah, the broadcast journalism that's running, right? >> Um, no, just digital media one and digital media 2. >> Well, digital media 2 is broadcast journalism by production. >> It's Well, yeah. I mean, it's it's still I think what I had sent was how he's envisioning it

058moving forward because this is the first um they haven't been working in this they're working in the studio, but not like full-time. Well, my my thought is is has anyone reached out to a local news station because running broadcast this is mature technology. This is mature systems and can we is there a way to get in there and talk to people who do this dayto-day that can give them like this is how things are structured. This is how how professional environment works. So they're not trying to reinvent the wheel. >> I don't that's a great question. >> News 12. you reach out to News12, I'm sure. >> Yeah, because this is stuff that, you know, this has been happening for decades, so there's a system already in place. >> Um, so they they can learn

059how to herd cats instead of trying to figure out how to herd cats. >> Right. Right. >> So, let's see. So, let's see if anybody knows anybody at News12. Um, if you have any relationships that we can tap into. I got to I got to look at who I know. Um >> I know I know someone who knows someone really well there. >> All right. So, why don't we get uh Laura or Matt connected to have the conversation and then be able to loop back to the to the teachers. >> Maybe it's a field trip kind of thing or maybe they come talk to us. >> Yeah. If they're willing to come in or to host the kids, I I think Jeff would be thrilled. can't imagine him being opposed to that by any stretch.

060>> Lara Elizabeth was gonna talk to Jeff also about um uh Quinnipic University because they have a full studio and we thought it might be a cool connection to have with a with a local university like that. >> I agree. I actually um it's funny you mentioned that. Um I was there on Sunday with Sam at an open house and >> Oh yeah. Um, at one of the tables they had, uh, I think it was the athletics table. Um, I took a snapshot, I'll send it to you, um, of undergraduate employment opportunities for athletics and one of them is camera operators for ESPN Plus broadcasts. So I mentioned that to Jeff um just as something to pass along to his students um you know because again he's always got one eye on um you know

061this can be a career >> right absolutely >> so I just sent that to you. So anyway, I mentioned that to him and I said, you know, it would be ne maybe you can talk to some maybe we, you know, you could connect with Quinnipic and either have them come in and speak or, you know, something like that. But that would be a great um relationship to have. >> Elizabeth did the summer camp there because she's interested in their sports broadcasting program. >> Yeah. Oh, great. >> So if so, she has the professor that she's worked with and so I'd love it if >> Yes. if she could make that connection with Jeff if that's all right with you >> just as a advocacy experience kind of thing. >> I think that would be I

062think that would be fantastic because again he's always like Jeff the conversations we have the conversations he and I have um excuse me in terms of the club and in terms of curriculum is you know how does what does this look like as a career? >> Right. Right. Exactly. Our state senator Sugjada is a professor at Quinnipic. >> Right. That's right. >> And um so is Amanda. I don't know if you know Lissy Thomas. I mean she's in the medical program but still she is a professor at Quinnipic as well. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I think it's I I know that you know Sacred Heart would be another choice too and um many of us know Judy and Rickio and so she you know could probably get us connections with their department as well. um

063if you know maybe that's something like Kate said of doing um tours or or field trips out to see what some of these places are like kind of that next step and then news 12 being kind of you know the the high point of actually in broadcast >> right the culmination because school and then once you graduated >> Yeah. very cool. >> Yeah. I also have um contacts at Fairfield um in the athletic >> university. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And they do they have a great program there, too. >> Yeah, their studio is actually pretty cool. >> Awesome. All right. Great. Great stuff, you guys. All right. Anything that we haven't covered or anything any new business anybody wants to bring to the table? Okay. Then our next meeting is April 16th. Uh, yep. April

06416th. And then if if you want to tune in to uh budget hearings, uh, like I said, we're first up on the 19th at 8:30. Um, and once they're once the board of finance is done, then we go to the town council and it'll be the first we'll do the LNA I think the LNA committee and then the full town council. So, any other questions, comments, things we want to cover? A great team. It's really good conversation. Thank you all for being here. Hopefully your snow melts over the next few days and we'll see you next time. >> Thanks, Kate. >> Bye, guys. >> Bye. Bye.
