Educational theater company was founded on the idea that transportation should never be a barrier to highquality theater education. So we don't have a spot that we're asking you to come to. We go partner with schools, community centers, churches, and we go to where our participants already are. and you can help make that happen. We are a nonprofit, so we're always looking for volunteers, particularly in the form of board members. If you'd like to know more about that, come ask me. We have a number of board members whose students were in a show just like this one and then said, "Well, now I'm committed. Let's make this happen." And that has continued. So, we'd love to talk to you more about that. We also are always accepting donations. And if you donate, you get a handwritten
card from me. Well, I'm excited about it. But, um, that's one of my other jobs at ATC is I am our director of development. So, if you'd like to know where those donations go, you're welcome to come and talk to me about that. Um, and if you buy a t-shirt either tonight or tomorrow, that those funds go directly to our scholarship fund that helps provide summer camps and after school classes for anyone who wants to take an MTC program, including our creative age students. Um, if you do have a student in the show, we encourage you, it's a big deal at the cast party tomorrow to get their shirts signed. And if you buy your shirt today, you can avoid the rush tomorrow, which trust me is a rush. And now, let's talk a little
bit about the show you're about to see. So, the show on stage today um did not exist 10 weeks ago. When we first met with the students, we had a story that I told them about that was about one single hummingbird and we now have nine on our stage. Um, and since then, the students on the stage have created characters, written their lines, written lyrics for all of the songs, helped pick the genre of song that they think best tells their part of the story, decor, designed and created their costumes, props, and scenery. And then on Monday, we added 12 more students on top of that who did everything else from lights and sound and percussion and set moving. And they only have three days to learn the show. So, they're really, it's pretty impressive.
Um, this is the program that when I talk to other theater professionals, they go, "Oh man, I wish I had had that in second grade or in third grade or in fourth grade or in fifth grade." And Cardinal's lucky enough to have that twice a year. So, I am incredibly proud of the students. I have no doubt that you will be incredibly proud of the students. And but if you'd like to hear why I'm proud of your students, because isn't it nice to hear it from somebody else, please come talk to me after the show. But now, please enjoy every little drink. >> [applause] >> You climb the mountains. You cross the valleys. But there ain't nothing like life in the [music] trees. You spread the ocean. over here and ain't like life in the
trees. Every day we [music] grow a little taller. Still our world. We love our full color. From the darkest browns to the brightest greens, we got the heat [singing and music] in the trees. Flies as cool as a breeze. [music] We got the in the trees. [music] We got the heat in the trees. We got the sunshine and we shest. [music] We got it. Don't need those mountains. Don't need those valleys. We got all [music] that we need right here in the trees. We know and we see that [music] perfect here in the trees is all so beautiful [music] and something that you just got to see. We got the heat to trees. [music] Life as [singing] cool as a breeze. From the [music] east to the east. We got the e. We got the
[music] trees. We got the trees. We got the in [music] the trees. >> [music] [applause] >> I don't care. [music] >> [music] >> I love living in the canopy. This rainforest is really nice. >> I agree. There's so much stuff in the canopy that we get and the other layers and the other layers will get fruit, grub, and many leaves to munch on. THERE'S SO MUCH FOOD THAT WE DON'T HAVE TO FIGHT OVER. There's plenty for us all to share. Monkeys, sloths, and even ringtailed lemurs. >> Those lemurs are far superior to >> I eat lots of stuff because I like zipping around the trees. >> I know, right? Why is so fast? Especially for a walk. I have 5,000 bagels. We have to go farming fruit. There are nice mangoes. This is such a
nice place. We have all the nice fruit, all the nice trees. I think this is like the perfect place. >> We get all the fresh air on the ground and get down in the tree. >> I just love living at canv. It's so cool. And we get to see a view. Our mangoes are nice and fresh, while their mangoes are all disgusting and squishy because they have to wait until they fall down from the trees. The trees are so comfortable and the fruit is so good. I mean, what's better up here in the canopy or down there in the yucky understory? The canopy is perfect by 1 million% because we get all the right fruit. Meanwhile, [clears throat] the understory barely anything. I love because there's all those flying that you can see and get
a good view what's going on down. Oh, damn. See like all of you guys are so nice. Literally, this is THE BEST PLACE EVER. WE HAVE all the good fruit. We have all the NICE TREES AND ALL THAT STUFF. I just love having life here. Plus, we get to see all the beautiful sunsets. >> That's all good and well, but does it smell smokeoky right now? >> We get all the fresh. >> We get all the nice things. >> They have on the hard ground. We get the soft fresh up here. I like swimming around in the leaves. >> This is so weird. I'm starting to smell some coke. Hey, look over there. I see some blackest gray fries into the trees. >> That's not a sunset. >> That seems like fire. >> I do
not smell smoke or fire. >> I smell smoked caterpillar. >> Wait, why is it starting to get more hot? >> Maybe I should go see what's happening. >> All of these facts are adding up. Who would be fired? Maybe we could go check. We could swing around the trees just to check. >> According to my weather app today, just for monkeys, it's 95°, not 150. >> What even is a weather app? >> He's using that as a phone again. [laughter] >> I think it might be a wildfire. Wait. How can it be a wildfire? We live in the Amazon rainforest. It's full of water. [laughter] >> Well, it's also full of wood and leaves. It'll catch on fire. I think all these are right. Maybe we should start heading down. >> I honestly think it's
We should definitely get down. >> How are we going TO GET DOWN? YEAH, I usually call bird figured out, but that seems really dangerous. We should stay. >> I cannot leave here. My whole Rangutan women's family has lived here for 1,000 generations. There's no way I'm going down there. Panda, we need to leave. We could get seriously hurt or die if this fire gets overdosed. We need to get down now. Can we bring mangoes? >> Good thing we got a bug AND EAT THE MANGO. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE MANGOES. I can never leave the canopy. All my lunch friends and family have lived here. We need to get down right now. So, just hurry because I am not dying today. >> [music] [music] >> It's humid and [singing] it's [music] colors come our way. Our
guts are feeling funky. The sky is turning gray. I have no doubt. We're all [singing] going to We're all so sad, but we got to get out. We got to get down down down onto the ground down. There's a fire over there. We never really can't stay. I'm starting to get the prepared down what we cooked. It caught us before we looked. We have to go. But we want to stay. If we don't, then that fight will make us. We got to get down down to the ground. There's a [singing] to [music] get down down down to the ground. There's a fire to go. We're really scared. It's all our way. We just can't stay. No, we just can't say it's coming our [music and singing] way. So, we just can't say [applause] >> [music]
[music] >> Mom man, it is so awesome down here. >> Yeah. Yeah. It also means carrying this,000 lb or something shell with it. Seriously, how much does this thing weigh? >> Probably about 3,500 lb. Lucky for me, as a snake, I don't have to carry around anything like that. >> You probably need to decorate yourself. It's so awesome here. There are so many colors for me to choose. I can make it bigger than everywhere. I can slither up to the understory and look down on everybody else and see who will be my next. It's the It's such a great day today. Wait, it's Cappy B Club time. I'm so chill down here. How do all of those other monkeys climb all the way up there? Must be so um chill. >> I agree with you.
It's nice down here. >> All those other punas and the monkeys are hanging up there, but they don't know how good it is. >> I like it down here. I would just like to chill all day and adventure around the forest floor. I'm probably just going to go on hunting. I'm probably catchy bar or two. Oh, happy bar. I better go over there and get some of them. I'm hungry. >> H bars. Did you hear the news? I trying to escape the candy bar to eat us. >> What is the candy doing up there? I'm so glad they are there and not down here. The only time I want them down here is if there's an emergency or something. But a fire or something will never happen here. Right. >> I'm actually strong to hear
them yell. Probably them to sing how good we are. Oh, right. Um two times. >> Maybe one of them went up to the virtual air and caught with a bird or something. The canopy are so selfish. I don't know why they'd ever come down here. It's getting louder. I think they may actually be coming down. [clears throat] I thought they said it was gross down here. >> Oh, yeah. But I'm scared of the noise. What's happening? I'm sleeping my cat. >> They're coming down. Last time I talked to them, they were so stuck up. The canopy is so great. No one likes up there. I think you're right here on fire. I think there actually is a fire. Oh my gosh, we have to get out of here. >> I think we should leave the
forest and get to the other side of the river. >> Okay, to the river. But more importantly, I predicted the future. >> No, you didn't. You said the exact opposite. But we do have to get out. The thing is, we have to get to the other side of the river. That's pretty hard. >> Well, we have to get up somehow. So, we have to try to get Maybe we could try to help each other get across the river. >> We should go down. Maybe we'll help each other. >> Just don't ride awesome. >> But maybe we try to puma. Who cares? How do we get out of here? We need to get out. >> All right, it's decided to the minute. [clears throat] >> Wait, wait, guys. Guys, I see the zombie shouts, guys. [applause]
>> [music] >> There we go. [music] >> [music] >> That farm is really going down there. Watching the animals squirm and under their lives is very amusing. I mean, it's a good thing that they're all safe so we can have food for ourselves. >> Yeah, at least we can fly away. I mean, I'm not exactly worried about us because our wings are awesome. We can just swoop down and eat whatever didn't make it out for food. By the time the fire is over, we'll have all the food we can eat, and we will have a delicious buffet of monkeys. We'll all have food and we can move on. All the other animals will eventually be able to move on, too. Yes, we can move to other trees and lots of food. So, we're good. Yeah,
we too can do this >> because we all have wings. So, we can all just fly to the unfurn part of the rainforest. [clears throat] >> Well, I'm starting to worry. If the fire spreads too big and too long, what are we going to be able to do? >> Yeah, you're right. I'm going to miss I have like a little apartment style thing going on. >> Yeah, that apartment was amazing, but we can just rebuild somewhere else. But then this is the perfect area. This area of the rainforest is amazing. >> Well, you're worried about that and so much. But aren't you worried about what's going to happen to all our food if the fire continues to spread? >> Yeah, I mean, what about all the monkeys they won't be able to see and everything's
disappearing? We won't be able to eat anymore. >> Yeah, we would starve to death. Probably the best thing we can do to help any of them would be to probably try to save them from anything broken. Yeah, everything's going to be gone. Like the berries. I don't want my berries to be lost. I don't like them. I had a whole secret stash of berries. Now they're all going to be gone. >> There are a lot of important animals here and we depend on them for our food chain. And I knew we had a great equal amount of food we could all eat. We go somewhere else that doesn't have a lot of food, we can't really live there. >> Yeah. Well, there's tons of animals out there and there is nothing we can really ditch.
All this is getting an entire ecosystem being destroyed by one little Well, I'm going to miss our barbecue with all the monkeys and delicious food. If we go anywhere else, there's not going to be a lot of food there. But right now, I'm just going to wait for a few places for you. It helps me when I'm stressed. >> You're right. I remember all the pie and feasts we had. All my pray is going to be gone now. There won't be any of this anywhere else we go. >> Yeah, it's because if they die and we die. If we die, what's the forest going to do? There used to be so many berries and fruits forest, >> but now they're and all those other animals, they can't go anywhere else. Well, I'm getting worried because
this will happen so fast and [snorts] we weren't really expecting it to happen and we don't have a backup plan. So, now we're just stuck here being scared. >> Yeah, I would help, but I'm a bit nervous right now. I don't think we should get involved. Well, if that fire keeps going big, we won't be able to fly away. This is really scary. Uh, we can't find where all the smoke is. >> We would all get very sick and probably burnt. >> Let's go fly to the other side of the river. Well, see what happens. >> Good thing that way we'll be safe for now and we can always fly further away if we need to. >> [applause] [music] >> Stop. Almost. Quinn, we need to go across the river. We need to go. >>
If you guys really want to be safe, why don't we just go to >> We're tiny hummingbirds. How are we going to put this fire on? Luckily, we can fly fast with our tiny hummingbird wings to escape this virus. >> That's a great idea. Let's go right. >> Come on, hummingbirds. Let's fly. >> Let's go where the other animals are. >> All these trees have provided so much shelter for all of us. >> We can't just set them on fire. They provide too much food for us. It feels like they're made of candy. >> I can't bear to see these trees go on fire. All these plants were so good. I got nectar from them every day. >> You may. What are we going to do? See that tree over there? Yeah, right over there.
That was my great uncle's favorite tree for collecting nectar. And it's been our family's favorite tree for the past generations. >> The sal is my best friend. This isn't that tree over there. I don't like to see anyone. Oh, my friend lives in that tree over there and he has lots of babies and I'm worried they are still in them. So, I want to help them. It all looks like so much as the other animal wants him. Wait, >> we need to save the rainforest. We have to put out the fire. Everybody, let's go to the river and scoop up drops so we can put out this fire. >> And what makes you think that would help? They're just single water droplets. >> Do you want to lose your home? Everybody else's home and your
best friend's home. >> All our food is there and we don't keep us alive. You might you should care because these provide us to live. >> If you help them, they will help us. >> We got this. Let's do it. Let's go save today. [music] We [singing] save the trees all [music] the free [singing] to [music] save the nature that we see the river. We need to help. We need to stay alive. [music] That fire should go away. [singing] [music] So let's get ready [singing] to fight that fire for the hungry [singing] lion. [music] The fire is getting higher to stop it. That's a desire. [music] Grand will be fire and it's getting hotter. We need [music] more water. need [singing] to save my [music] heart. [music] So let's get ready to fight that fire.
We need to save the day that our shoulder [music] ready to fight [music] for a holy [singing] [music] light. >> [applause] >> All in favor say in the rainforest SAY I. >> I. >> Let's go to the river. [applause] All >> [music] >> right, we all made it out. It's time to do a head count. >> All right, so uh I only have like two fingers or whatever. >> New player. Anyone Everyone who's here, SAY I. >> I. >> ANYONE WHO'S NOT HERE, SAY I. OKAY, GOOD. You're all here. >> Birds in the purple forest. Collapsing. Everything collapsing. Even my face is collapsing. >> I was making some origami out of leaves, but now those all got merged. I was building a little home down there, but it's all getting burnt down. All that wood
was for nothing. >> I know. We got to face it, but those were my favorite tree. >> We're always on the block. Oh no, there goes my favorite place to hunt for dinner. >> I miss the trees making no shade. >> I don't think I don't have >> I'm sorry. But I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. This fire is bigger than my favorite box. [clears throat] It was heavier, of course, but it's still pretty big. It's bigger than my favorite boulder. The flames are rising. I don't even know what to do. It's so big. All the sweet and delicious berries that hung from the trees. I can't grab them anymore. They're all getting burned. >> All the sweet delicious berries I stole. manual picked up from the trees. >> Oh my gosh,
I can't believe the fire is getting so big. It's taking away all those sweet, sweet trees. That's >> Well, I like camping, but now it's way deeper than a campfire. The fire is burning away my pipes fly. I was about to take him out of his spot. >> Um, we live in a rainforest. Why was Bob in the park? >> Guys, if we had tried to stop this earlier, this wouldn't have been happening. I know a few trees would have fallen down, but not the whole forest. That's too much. >> Yeah. Hopefully makes you think. >> [music] >> It started from the start. It's broken all our [music and singing] hearts. Destroyed all the fairies that we used to. It's growing so [singing and music] much. And now our homes are bright. Oh, what a
shame. It's all [singing] a flame. The fire [music] spreading like a wild beast. We can't take it. We just can't stop it. [music] It's all a [singing] flame. It just keeps spreading. A shame. [music] >> [music] >> We'll never defeat it. [music] We might have to quit [singing] a million [music] army. There's not time left [music] to feed. Oh, what a shame. It's all a [music and singing] flame. The fire spreading like a wild beast. We can dance. We just can't stop it. It's all a flame. It just [music] keeps spreading. Oh, what a shame. It's all a flame. The fire spreading like a [music] wild. We just can't stop it. It's all a flame. >> [singing and music] >> It just keeps spraying. Oh, what a shame. Oh, what a shame. [music] It's already
too bad. It's the worst we've ever had. It's all [music] over. [music] >> [applause] >> The fire is way too big. >> I wish we could just roast marshmallows in it now. Uh, but we can't. >> Marshmallows. >> Yum. Never mind you. I haven't stolen anything from anyone in at least 24 hours. >> It's hopeless. We can never stop the fire. >> We can't stop it. We can stay on this side of the road and be safe. >> It's too dangerous for any of us to go in there. [cough] The second I cross the river, I'd be on fire. >> Of course you get burnt. EVERYBODY will get burnt. We need to stay put. It makes me so sad to see it destroyed. >> Let's stay safe over here. [cough and clears throat] [applause] [music]
>> [music] [music] >> Um, wait a minute. Are those hummingbirds? They look like red dots, but I think they're hummingbirds. >> Are they flying into the fire? Cuz that's what it looks like. >> Yes, they are. >> It's too late now. All the mangoes have been burned into crunchy rice. >> I hope they don't get hurt. I wonder what's up with them. Maybe we should look closer and see what they're doing. >> I've seen them go to the river. They're picking up something and then going back into a fire again. >> I think that's right. They might be trying to stop that fire. >> Oh my god. That is good. Maybe we should help, but I don't really want to get. So, um, >> we can't really even help the hummingbirds. Besides, we don't have
anything to carry the water with. Um, I would help them, but here's the thing. >> I'm kind of too sad for it. solo. >> I'll pass. >> I should help them. But I've got stuff to do over there. >> We should help them. I know that you guys are probably scared, but I feel like we should help them. >> Why should we even care about the flavors? They're just little birds who barely have any brains. >> Don't say that. Don't think that the harpy eagles are right over there. I mean, it's not just the hummingbirds. It's that they're trying to put out the fire, which is a pretty good job for humming. >> I think it's important to take out the fire, but it's too risky. Most of us have tons of fur, and fur
can catch on fire easily. >> How about we have a risk taker? Actually, I don't feel like it. Like I'm a fast swimmer, but I'm not very fast on land, so [clears throat] I don't think I can do it. >> Don't you brag whole time about being the fastest slo. >> I agree with Pongo. I think that it's a bit too risky for us. The hummingbirds have feathers that are nice and smooth and slippery, so they can easily go in there, and they're so small, it's unlikely that they'll get burned. But my tail is so huge and fluffy. I doubt that I did. >> But if we don't go in and help them, then they'll get hurt. We'll feel really bad that we didn't go in and help them. >> I think we should help
a little bit because I not ready. I am too exhausted from getting to safety. Um, I'm not telling anymore. How about we do it? >> No way. That is way too risky. Can you hear everybody else? >> Yeah, they're doing a really risky job. They're really They're s They're really fast because they're really fast. We can hear. [snorts] They're doing a really great job. >> They may be brave, but there's a thin line between bravery and stupidity. for such a hard way. They're actually not doing math. Almost as if they're really smart, but not as smart as us. >> Again, [clears throat] the eagles. >> I mean, it's really impressive for a little hummingbird to go back and forth so >> maybe we can all go Maybe we can all get wet and go and
help them >> and start a bad idea. What are you up there? I do not have the energy to do that. >> Besides, the fire is so big, it's probably not even worth even trying. >> [applause] [music] >> I'm really tired. I'm really really hungry. Don't worry. You can do it. Remember those blueberries in the forest that you used to find that I used to make into blueberry pie? I feel like that was a delicious blueberry pie. I feel like we should save the rainforest so we can have a blueberry pie. >> It's hard to scam. Our trail colors are really hot. >> Come on, we can do this. Let's keep going. >> We're not just saving this rainforest for us. We're saving it for all the other animals who live here. If you don't
keep going, this will be a major loss of you. We don't help the rainforest. This will be a major loss of homes. And yes, I'm doing a really good thing. I needed a really really I think a little bit before you carry other. >> We got this. Even though this hard, I know it. >> Agreed. It should only take us about 600,000 more drops. >> What? >> That's so much. >> I think maybe the other the other animals will see us and be aspired to help. We should inspire them by saying, "I'm doing all I can." I want to save. Let's go, hummingbirds. We can do this. >> Even though I'm bad at school, I'm still I know we're small, but we can do this. >> Coming to the rescue. >> LET'S GO SAVE THE
DAY. [screaming] >> YAY. EVEN though it's hard, I know we can do this. >> Okay, hummingbirds. We can do this. I know it's very exhausting, but we can do it. Even though this is hard, I know we can do it. >> Hummingbirds assemble. [applause] >> [music] >> They're like Olympians to the fire. just too [singing] much desire. [music] They're trying really hard to clean the mess, but they don't [singing and music] think of a consequence. Their beauty little wings are too tired. The situation just too tires. [singing] They lost their tiny brains. It's [singing] all so [music] ridiculous. Never going to solve this thing here. [music] >> We never do a silly thing like that. [music] They're really [singing] pickles, [music] but aren't worth the bigger and smarter. go so much that they [music] will
tickle [singing] but they're about to s [singing] they lost their tiny bra. [singing and music] It's all so ridiculous they're never going to solve this. They hear those sailing birds. They've lost their tiny [music] brains. It's all so ridiculous. They're never going to solve [singing] this. Nothing here. [music] There's nothing here. There's nothing [music] [applause] Wow, those little are sure working towards it. I don't mean to be rude, but I don't think they're getting anywhere. Yeah, they're little tiny bodies against the giant fire and all they're going to do is burn themselves and get smoke in their lungs. >> Yeah, I mean lastly, look at that one. Now they're just going to swing. >> Well, I mean they are working really hard and that's kind of cool because they want for us. >> Yeah, I'm
with you. I usually don't really care about them, but I guess impressed. >> Yeah, they're working really hard. >> But yeah, they are pretty impressive doing this. >> Yeah, by now we've given up. They're working really, really hard. They look like they're getting hurt. >> If they're burning their wings, then they won't be able to fly as much and they'll just burn. That's not good. I suppose. >> Yeah. Me either. >> Well, I'm worried. I was surprised about what they're doing, but now their wings are hurt and they're coughing a lot and I just don't know that they're going to be able to help a lot. >> Whoop. >> I guess I am kind of worried about >> Yeah, you're so small. I'm kind of scared for them. >> If they keep doing this, more
and more of them are going to get hurt and maybe die, and then the population will go down. I wonder why they're doing this when it's so dangerous and hard. >> Yeah, maybe we should ask them why. >> We should ask them why they're still doing what they're doing. even when it's so dangerous and hard. >> Because they're trying so hard, but they can only carry the little drop. Why do they keep trying if every little drop isn't really doing much to put out the fire? It will just continuously spread. I feel like there's no point in doing this. I feel like we should ask them why they're doing this because I don't want them to get so hurt they're going to die. >> Even if they did get barbecues, they wouldn't really be worth
either since there's not really a lot of meat. The thing is, if the hummingbirds die, whatever eats the hummingbird, we die and we eat whatever eats the hummingbirds. So, what we what we eat? I think we should go and ask them why are they doing this? It's extremely dangerous and it seems hopeless. I think my bottle should go get them. >> That I can do. >> Hey, I'm You guys are doing a great job, but you don't seem to be getting anything. So, why are you still going? >> We are doing all we can. We are doing it cuz this is our home and we love it here. >> We're doing this for everybody the whole rainforest. >> We've been watching you and we're a little concerned. What if all you do is not enough.
>> We know this is enough because we're putting in full effort. I know that you're putting in full effort, but it's not really working and you're getting very hurt. >> You're right. But we're taking a risk because we're doing a big thing for the other animals, too. >> I love her. I think we should go out. >> Yeah, I will go get the monkeys. Those monkeys are a good source of food. I would like them to survive. But if one of them happens to get barbecued, I'll go help get the monkeys. >> [laughter] >> We do want food to survive. I mean, I'll go get the other insects to help. I'll unlist the fruit bat over there. I'll get the other vehicles and and other predators that can help, too. Any bird can spot. We
need to get the whole forest on this. >> We got to pass the signal around as fast as possible. >> Already on it.
