And I have a motion that the board of education approve the agenda as presented. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Yep. >> Abstain. Motion carries. May I have a motion that the board of education approve the consent agenda as presented? >> So moved. >> Second. Any items to be held for individual discussion? >> Nope. >> Maria, please call the role. >> Sarah, >> yes. >> Haber, >> yes. Amanda, >> yes. >> Steer, >> yes. >> Natalie, >> yes. >> Amen. >> Yes. Motion carries. Anyone wishing to address the board may do so at this time. If multiple individuals wish to address the board on the same subject, the group is encouraged to appoint a spokes spokesperson. Please state your name and affiliation with the district. You
are asked to limit your comments to three minutes and abide by the public participation policy of the district. Please understand that the board will not respond to your questions and concerns during the meeting. A member of the administration team and or board will follow up with you after the meeting. Um school board president's report. Um I have not received any self monitoring. So over to Sarah for finance and facilities. And you'll all be really sad, but we did not meet this month. So, I have virtually no news. Just the next meeting is Tuesday, February 10th at 6 PM. >> Right. Policy committee. >> The board policy uh committee met on Thursday or uh sorry uh Thursday, January 15th at 12:00 p.m. via Zoom. During the meeting, we reviewed policies from press issues 120 for first
read, and we plan to recommend approval of second read and adoption of these policies at the February 19th board meeting. >> Yep. >> Sassid, Dr. Castillo. >> Yes. The Sasset board of directors met yesterday. approved under consent agenda were the intergovernmental agreements to enroll a non-member district student in a SAS program as well as the approval of independent contractor agreements for presenters at their spring institute under discussion and information included enrollment staffing strategic plan progress and board committee updates. Uh and then again the longest part of our meeting was close session where we discuss uh the southeast school property and personnel matters. >> Moving on with dashboards, the financial dashboard that up here finance dashboards through December 31st, believe it or not. So we're halfway through exactly halfway through the fiscal year. Fairly straightforward here.
Uh so the first slide here will be revenues. So again revenues through December 31st uh July 1 through December 31st here. Uh most revenues are on track. The first line there virtually all property tax revenue has come in um for that 2024 tax year. Uh state revenues few lines down are trending a little under budget on the revenue side. >> Yeah. >> A big part of that a transportation claim. There's four big installments. We've only received one of the four installments. The other three are in January, April, and June. >> So, over the year, that'll catch up um somewhat. Federal is trending a little high. Uh Medicaid revenue uh it has been coming in a little more than expected. Uh we also have some grant revenue that is coming in now in January. So, federal
revenue is probably trending a little bit higher than expected, which is good. Um total revenue through December 31st as you can see on the bottom there 24,884,421 or 86% of budget revenues. Next slide is expenditures. Here are the expenditures through December 31st. Most expenditures are on track. Uh the one line other objects uh it's trending fairly high. What does it say? About 92% of budget expenditures. A big part of that is tuition for outplay students. And then we talked about it. Sassida does a pre-build. So they build us on the front end. Um so we paid a lot of those pre-builds already on the front end that we don't get any invoices until the end of the year they do a true up. >> Uh and then capital is high. Uh that's uh towards the
bottom fund 60 about 99% of budget and that's the Greenbrook expansion project, right? That whole project has already been 100% paid for. So paid for that towards the front of the fiscal year. Yeah. So everything else is on track. tax salaries, benefits. Um, total expenditure is about 16.8 million uh or about 52% of budget expenditures. >> Next, we have the fund balance. This is the fund balance report through December 31st. And this is we're looking at all funds. So, total revenues for all funds are 23.5 million. Total expenditures are about 15.5 million. Then you have fund transfers column that'll stay the same throughout the rest of the year. And that ending fund balance for all funds is 27,840,766. That's like an 89% fund balance for all funds. And you have operating on the bottom right
there. Uh it's about 27.3 million. So you see the 97 96.7% fund balance for 363 days on hand. That's again for operating. The next slide just a visual representation of that the treasury report through December 31st. So that all funds uh fund balance is 27.8 million and the current fiscal year is the yellow bar. >> Um so following that same pattern but again kind of that plan uh uh I guess deficit spending or or bringing down the fund balance um to bring it more in line with for policy. And that's just operating funds. Same thing but strictly operating funds. The purple is the current year. Um, and again following that same trend, but a little bit less than last year as we're spending down that fund balance. >> Mhm. >> Then I guess the kind
of big piece of news here, the December CPI report came in. Uh, so the December CPI ended up being at 2.7% on a year-over-year basis. It's kind of in line with expectations. It was actually the same as November. Um although inflation is still above that 2% target, the feds and government are not viewing inflation as too much of a risk more than like a softening labor market. So there was a rate cut. They might do another one in the spring. U but that December reading of CPI. So you got this December just ended and then a year ago December was uh >> 2.9. Yep. >> Um that December reading is relevant because that's what we use for the tax levy. Yeah. So, next year when we use the tax levy, that's the figure that we
>> Hey, Brian, I'm confused. You know, that bar 2.7 for December looks smaller than the November. >> The November, if you expand out the decimals, you'll see why. >> What are the fifth decimal place? >> And then this is just a cool little graphic on the 30-year history of CPI. Um, so again, the year ended 2.7 and you just kind of see that average over the last 30 years. um we're at now you see that record inflation due to pel we could on the tax we could only do 5% or CPI the lower of the two >> so those 2023 24 I think was like 7% you know due to PT was 5% was the cap >> um but the years before that were low so the last 10 year average is like 2.4% %.
>> Yeah. >> But that's just kind of an interesting the last 30 years of CPI. >> So that's kind of the exciting news in the finance at CPI report that'll be used for next year. Um yeah, I believe there's no action items this year and February's meeting. We'll we'll talk a few other things like the audit will come up next month. Um a couple other action items. Any questions? staff on student attendance dashboard. >> Well, you probably won't be surprised with the attendance for students this month. Uh, you know, a lot of people have been sick, including myself. Uh, I was actually out a few days at the beginning of the month. I know it's uh hit my house at that time and it's something's going around. So, look at the attendance. If we go
to the table, it's easier to read. Um you can see many days we're uh we're over that 10%. Uh so we did double check that uh most of those are due to illness. So on those evenings we had um made sure that the they did a deep cleaning at the buildings and those type of things at at all three buildings. Um Waterberry looks very similar. Well actually Waterberry looks a little better. Uh there was only one day where they were over that 10%. Um, and then Springwood, uh, there was a few days. So, it it looks like this time around it hit, uh, Greenbrook more than it did the other buildings. So, but yeah, something is going around. It was all illness deep cleaning for staff. Uh, Tuesday beat out, you know, Friday this time
around. Uh, and but here again, 251 days. It's still better than what we've seen uh in the past. If we go to the next slide, that's the comparison with day of the week for December and then the different administrator support staff and teachers. Well, not too bad. >> Thank you. >> Moving forward with the superintendent report. Yeah, just uh two quick items for uh for the open meeting. I have most of my items are in close session. Uh just uh school improvement uh school improvement framework that we started this year. I want to commend our our uh building principles uh with their um their implementation of the school improvement framework as well as the work that they're doing with their uh building teams and and with their teachers and their PLC's. So great work with
that. Uh as well as uh my second item is uh this Saturday we'll start our strategic direction. So updating our strategic plan. So we're going to have about 50 uh community members here includes uh board administrators uh even our students will be here and parents. So we're looking forward to that. As we know, you know, the last two strategic directions have helped paved the way to, you know, the changes that we've seen the last few years. So uh very happy that we're starting that up. And next we'll have Carrie. >> Good evening. Um in Redport Square right student took a survey and told us which highlight they like the most. Hmh or amplify and also the ELA teachers gave that gave us feedback on that survey and the overwhelming response was they all wanted amplified
ELA. We thank our teachers so much because resources during the year is a lot and we thank our teachers for all the hard work and effort they put in. So we will be moving forward with our purchase of amplified ELA for the middle school at all classrooms at all grades sixth, seventh and eth. They are about finishing up the year with the rest of amplified. They already tried it. They love it. We have it for the rest of the year and then next year we will make our major access testing has begun. So all of our EL students, all of our English language students um are required to take access just like all of our third fourth except today have to take I this is a major endeavor. There are four core which there's um
listening, speaking, reading and writing in kindergarten. It has to be given one-on-one. It takes an enormous amount of time for EL teachers to get all of this done. >> So thank you to them for all the effort they're putting in. And then the word of this month is audits. We are um two more audits for Keenyville. Super exciting. Our um ARS compliant compliance audit is the Illinois Association of Regional Super Independence of Schools and we have to complete that every four years. The teaching and learning component is the largest component of the audit, right? And I am extremely grateful for our social science department, Mr. Carner and his guys um our literacy coach, Miss Van Meter, who works with them as well because their component is the largest um social studies has the largest amount
of state mandates that they have to teach and the department here has everything together so well laid out that I can easily say we're covering all of those all of those areas and this is how we do it. So, a huge thank you to Mr. Carer and his guys in the social studies department and Miss Van Meter for helping with that as well. and our ROE professional development audit that happens every four years as well. So, as a district, we are allowed to offer CPDUs or continuing professional development units to our teachers for their time that they serve in professional development. We have to follow all the state's rules, guidelines, do it exactly the way they say, and then DUP page audits us. So, um they sent us our audit back. They said only a
few things to work on. I had that phone call today. I'm very excited that for the next four years we just make those little tweaks and we're good to be able to continue offer CPD use to our staff >> from the technology department. Um Miss Angstrom is tried out the Sora expansion. So we're excited that we were able to offer now magazines to our Sora um online ebook platform for our students. We had some magic school AI training and specifically on teacher efficiency and time management and how magic school AI can help in the classroom and smart pass. So smart pass is is able to help um Mr. Mr. Aliano let's talked about it a little bit. This is how we find out who's in the hallway with with who when where they're going. Literally
can track them when they say I have to go to the bathroom and did they did they go or did they not? And that was a huge endeavor. We had one teacher pilot it and then Mr. Alaniano and his guys came and said, "We really would like this." And Miss Angra worked with them to make sure that got in place. >> Any questions? >> Sorry, I'm going to ask. Yes. What What smart pass? It's like a little >> What does it look like, Mr. Aliato? >> It's online. >> It's like >> on their Chromebook. >> So they'll go on to Smart Pass. U Yeah. and it gives them an opportunity to leave and then come back and it kind of tracks like loss of instruction or um just the frequent of being >> and who's
leaving at the same time, right? >> So they actually have to take their Chromebook. >> No, no, no. Okay. >> But we can see like if you and I always go to the bathroom at the same time. >> Any other questions? Thank you. Right. The student services department. So, a majority of this year is really spent on kind of overhauling our programs and taking a look at the needs of our students. So, currently right now across the district, we serve about 218 stu students who receive some type of uh special education services. That could be uh resource instructional our STC program, speech only. Um, but those are services that we provide here in the district. So, a lot of our time is being spent kind of looking at those needs and then reassessing our programs
to make sure we're meeting the needs of kids, not kids fitting into our programs. Um, the next thing that we really focused on is um finalizing a cardiac plan. >> Yes. >> For the district. Um, we were able to finalize this plan and it outlines the district procedures for responding to a cardiac emergency. Um, so it's it's preventing or providing guidelines and policies for how staff and we're going to call them our search team could respond if a cardiac event happens within the buildings. Um, it kind of got us to look at who was CPR certified as well as where our AEDs are, who knows how to use them. >> Um, kudos to Mandy, Miss Aubrey for linking us up with a nonprofit organization in South Elgen called I have to read this because I'll
mess it up. EKGs for EGK, which is a nonprofit organization that provides school district with AEDs. And we were able to so far get one free a AED for early childhood center. And we've put in applications for the other buildings as well. >> Um, and this is in response to a family member that was lost um her sister that was lost from a cardiac event in a school setting. >> Crazy. Um so we'll continue to not only provide training for the district um so that everyone knows what the protocols are if an event were to occur. Um next uh going back to a little bit about our um sped planning. We have articulation meetings starting next week and that's where fifth grade will come over and articulate with sixth grade on student needs as well
as preschool to kindergarten to again help with those transitions. We'll start having transition meetings with families. So families will come in, be able to come to the middle school, see a little bit of the middle school, and learn a little bit about their programming for next year. Um lastly, the staff started Saber Screening. Um Sabers is the social emotional um behavioral screener that we use as a baseline for students. Um it identifies students who may benefit from additional support emotionally or behaviorally. It's an early intervention and prevention strategy. Um it gives data for the districts to have groups to reach out to families just to provide some extra um needed support for students who may need it. Um the first part my sabers is filled out by teachers but then grades two through eight do
a my sabers screening which is a screening that the students fill out. So then we can both use that uh those um data points to kind of talk next steps and create some interventions for students. Any questions? Mandy. >> Hello everyone. Um, our preschoolers had a really good transition back to um, after winter break. Sometimes that can be really difficult for them. Um, but they did very well. They came back, they were excited um, and excited to see their teachers and their friends. So, that went well. Um, we have next Friday we have our fourth preschool screening of the year. Um, for those who aren't familiar, you don't just sign up for preschool in our in our district. We have a um kids have to qualify for at risk special education. A lot of different
um ways they can qualify for that. But, um, our kids do turn three throughout the year and then they're eligible to come in. So, we have screenings throughout the year and kids starting all the time. So, we have our our fourth one next Friday and then we only have one more this school year in April um for to prepare for next year. Uh we also on February 6th we have a parent engagement activity. Um we have animal quest coming and so they bring different kinds of animals. Um kids come with their parents and um they can pet some of them. They tell them stories about them. We've had them a few times and they've done a really nice job. So, we're looking forward to that, too. >> Any questions, >> Mr. G? Well, good evening.
We're excited to be back and everything else like that. We just finished up uh our map testing when we came back. And Greenberg School likes to use acronyms and everything else to help us remind us for different things. So we've done cows in the past and the kids really knew that already. They all know check over work slowly. So this year we kind of trying to switch it around and kind of like how can we focus more on the question piece and not just so much on taking our time and checking over the work. So we came up with the word hero which means highlight key words, eliminate wrong answers, read all the choices and only pick the best answer. So they really took this to a whole another level. I mean, they have kids
talking about map scores in the hallways and running down to the office to tell me, you know, what their score was and how much they beat it and everything else like that. They're really excited. And this year, we told them that anybody that improved their score from the fall, >> Mr. Buyer and I are going to give them a certificate and we're going to take a picture and then we're going to kind of put it up in everything else in the room on the school and on the boards and everything else like that. So, they're really excited. So, I just got some of the information we had cuz second and fifth grade are the only ones that take the ELA. We had 223 kids that went up in their red screen. >> That's crazy. >>
In math, which is first through fifth grade, we had 290 kids went up. So, I mean, if that's all I have to do is come up with acronyms. I >> So, I'm excited about that. So, we're our access testing started for our EL donors and everything else. So, they're excited about that. And we've set our schoolwide goal for the second trimester. We're using our Gator Bucks, which is something new this year. Trying to get the whole school community, teachers kind of set a goal for what their class is, and the class has to get that before they can earn a Gator Buck. So, it's kind of getting them to work together and help each other out and everything else so they could do that. So, we have to earn so many and each one of
our tiers is going to be the Gator Cafe and they get more and more things on the Gator Cafe. Kids are excited about that. It's fun. It's fun. >> Thank you, Dr. P. A well-known fact is uh you know John Gustiffson is a big Cubs fan and the fact that he was using cows and never went the Harry Kerry route of dressing up very disappointing to me. >> Uh so now now he did Carrie >> Oh no he dressed up as a cow. Yeah, but I need I need the Harry Carrie, you know, like his seventh inning stretch just >> the cow was good. >> The cow was really good. >> We can talk we can workshop this give John some some guidance on what we expect in the spring window. Um kind of similar
to John uh taking you back uh before winter break, we had fast bridge uh assessments. This the scores came back really strong. Uh the the before winter break, we also had our our winter sing along. We brought back an old tradition from Waterberry that was around before CO. Um it's still up on our Facebook account, social media. Uh you know, Mike Bolino, I understand he's ill, too, as he's got he got hit. Uh if he's watching, welcome to uh you know, the germs of schools. and uh you know so it's a wonderful video and you actually get to see some of our clubs perform uh as as well as some of uh demonstrating our our talents there and we also had the winter party right before winter break like to big kudos to our parent
community who came out strong uh it was some wonderful uh ideas and concepts and I had a member we have a media club at our school and a student wanted to well he started with me and wanted to interview me about how do you decide all of these uh you know what's the parties like and as soon as I said well you know parents take over these roles and they decided he didn't want to interview me anymore he had to print their name so now leave they are we're connecting them with a couple of our parents too great >> so that will be on our our media club announcements uh in the future um going back in now post winter break just like what John was saying some strong scores have come back academically uh
social emotionally we're just getting those sabers data in or be very responsive uh and looking at uh groupings and how to uh support students. Uh we are right now speaking of workshopping really working on sportsmanship with some of our boys at at recess. Uh I think the Super Bowl is every weekend or the World Cup uh every day at recess. So we're really help trying to work with them on you know understanding uh it's not yet uh soon and they're not at that level yet. So just how do we uh create those inclusive environments? Uh and then behaviorally we have developed a very strong tiered intervention support system for our students and it the data has been very exciting to watch as these been um as students have been responding. So a lot of exciting
news here and that's a big kudos to our staff who are putting in work and really making that difference with with all of our kids. Thank you Phil. Everybody, >> I will start off by saying I know I said before, but like boys basketball and chair is happening right now. And I love the winter season of girls basketball and boys basketball and chair because the Thunderdome is packed >> packed. >> We put extra chairs >> because there's no more room in the Thunderdome. um is packed with just people cheering and having fun and it's a great environment. Um even the other the parents in other schools um talk about how much of a great job we do. U Mr. Carer playing the music music and we have the halftime shows and we have the kids
participate parents participate. It's a great show if you haven't seen even if you don't have kids involved in sports. It's a great thing to see. So want to give a a huge shout for that but just remember the Thunderdome is packed. We may need extra seats in there. Um, hint hint >> Spring Greenwood students um are are participated in the Lake Park Choir Festival. This is big. I really wanted to put this on here because uh we had a turnover in the music department and we went from a music department, excuse me, a choir department that had about 15 to 20 students down to three and we're back up to about 13. And we're going to build and I want to say Mr. K did a great job of coming up the great idea of
doing Friday karaoke um to see if anyone's just interested in singing and he gained the numbers from there. So that was a really creative way on Friday. I brought my daughter um was it three weeks ago on a Friday and oh my they had such a good time. So I thought that was really cool that Mr. K brought that on. The middle school had their winter concert with choir and band. Seventh and eighth grade shared before went to Woodfield Mall um to play uh for the customers. Um I just want to share one thing. So my daughter Mia, she's my Tasmanian devil. she actually went on the field trip um with the students and how our students just um included her um like they went to school since kindergarten and I share that story because
my daughter were in the process of you know she's struggling at her school and we put in some papers to transfer to a different school and the first thing she said was like can I go to Springwood when I'm in sixth grade and it says a lot not about myself but it says about our staff when she comes in or how welcome she feels and how students treat her. Um, so I'm very excited about just all the things and how students are acting within our building. We had charge of pride dinner last week. We had a hundred guests come in. Uh, we we have pizza and we it's not just about the food, but just to see the parents wanting to take the pictures and asking to take pictures, but teachers and myself and the
staff. Um, the staff that stood around, amazing job, Miss E. I shouldn't say I shouldn't have started saying names coming. I miss someone, but Miss Edie, Miss Feran kind of ran all of it. Um and then teachers joined in. So, another great event that we love having um our next one will be in the spring. Um MAP testing initially was nice to see students again, similar to what you guys said, students are talking about it. um even when their score went down. Um students are coming in the office or hearing them throughout the hall talking like, "Oh man, my score went down by 10 or five or my score has gone up by two." Like they're talking about it and it says a lot about our staff because that means our staff are talking within
the classroom. But a huge shout out to this wonderful good-looking guy, Jerry. Um he runs all the map testing. It is amazing. Um it it's nice to see because it is a a task because >> there's a lot >> we had a tough time picking a date because Lake Park was coming um in our building and we want to accommodate their their date. So we had to do in such a tough time when we come back from break. >> Um so we had a few more than usual. Um but Jerry and Clint definitely helped out on that. It was not me. It was so helpful to have staff just saying, "Hey, Phil, I see there's a lot of kids. How can we help?" Um, EL students are, as um, Carrie said, are doing access testing
and I just put wow on here because circa and lolos, it is amazing just to be able to check in with you and to see where they're at. I know she doesn't like to get the shout outs. You want to say a few words? No. Okay. >> But like it is amazing that it is just checking in with me because how organized they are, >> communicating with the staff, less dis um, disruptions. So, thank you, Lolos and um Circa. And lastly is we're getting to that point where eighth grade events are coming up. Um Lake Park is in the building. If you talk to Miss Reeba, every time Lake Park leaves the building, they're always bragging about the students and the staff of how supportive they are. Um but I want to give a shout
out to the eighth grade team. They always send this big huge spreadsheet and they're saying, "Add all this stuff in there. You got to do it by a certain date." And the eighth grade team with no hesitation, always updating. I'm always watching them and they're always frequently looking at the data and and putting it in there. So, I appreciate that they're going through that and vision and hearing >> done. >> Again, thank you for helping out and controlling the crowd, but Unicea and um Kelly, it was Unicea this time, but they they do a wonderful job. And lastly, our favorite day, I know Mrs. Mrs. Rebo's favorite day, too, but eighth grade pictures took place. >> Yeah. And it's it's a it's a nice moment seeing them walking around the >> um the halls with
like eight foot um heels on. But um but it's just so nice seeing them walk around the halls dressed up and they're so excited and the teachers are you know it's just a a good environment. Um so a lot of good things happening and any questions? >> Keep it up. >> Thank you. >> That's it. Just remember e-learning tomorrow. Nobody's going to forget. >> You sure you don't want to keep them? You sure you don't want me to send them? You want to come and e-learn with my kids in this library? Maybe. >> He's like ducking. He's like, "No, no, no." Um, I have a motion that the board of education enter close session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the district or legal counsel for the
district, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the district to determine its validity. >> So move. >> Second. >> All those in favor? I >> abstain. >> Nope. >> Maria, please call the RO. >> Bren Hers, >> yes. >> Amanda Kapola, >> yes. >> Lyner, >> yes. >> Kacharski, >> yes. Terry Taylor, >> yes. >> Sarah, >> yes. >> Motion carries. Um, and we don't have any action items after this whole session. >> Correct. >> Thank you everyone. movie. Stay warm. She just took
