[Music] okay i'm following you back [Music] and join me in the pledge of allegiance closed minute meetings of march 16th 2021. can i have a motion in a second it's all moved are there any directions to the minutes is [Music] okay minutes are approved okay to approve the payment of the bills in the amount of 131 939 dollars uh are there any questions i have one question with regard to the uh roofing repair i was wondering if jeff is that a one-time issue or is it is there some larger roofing issues so it was a it's a vent in one particular classroom and when we have a certain amount of snow over a certain height the event backs up in a strange way and the snow melts and leaks into the classroom i see so

we have a short term fix for this problem um but we're gonna address it um because we couldn't do the work because of the snow on the roof et cetera et cetera so we're gonna address it more um long-term this summer um but yeah it was not one of the new roofs it's nothing we've worked on recently but maybe every 10 years that um exhaust will cause a similar problem i was just concerned that it was the new roof the roof repairs something that was something okay good thank any other questions okay okay uh in that case could the secretary please call a roll vote [Music] yes ms downing yes yes yes uh i vote yes mr schermer yes miss brown yes okay the bills are paid so uh next i've got pta report is

there a member of pta to give a report this evening no any little nuggets to share john i have some notes that i took at the immediate meeting that i attended do you want to just see that in your report though yeah i can do that okay we'll do the report do you have something do you exactly have something we would like to congratulate our newest pta board members who were elected into office meeting we look forward to them starting their duties in june uh president steve laureus vice president uh shaw treasurer sorry about that reporting secretary christie corresponding secretary uh julianna a huge thank you for heard board members with their service the past few years our support staff breakfast is this week on thursday our committee chairs have been working hard to plan

a wonderful breakfast for our school teacher appreciation week is next week our chair will be providing goodies each day at the teacher's home our annual teacher appreciation luncheon will be held on friday in our chairs and planned a really special lunch we are so grateful to our teachers and support staff for all of their work flexibility and dedication [Music] thank you john thank you okay so the school activity report do members of the board or administration have good news to share from the district go i was ahead say we finished our first athletic season this year absolutely uh good just the weather's getting better that we can do this outside it's great fun thank you push the button push the one button there we go i'm usually loud enough without the microphone um so our

wellness committee has been hard at work this year just like any other year but we have the annual wellness screening from that wellness greeting we actually get a premium payback from our cooperative that goes toward funding our wellness programs throughout the year uh our insurance and wellness committee over the last six years has done a fantastic job promoting this and the other activities we have regarding wellness we have 50 participation in this wellness screening to get a payback from our cooperative back in fiscal year 15 years actually and every year since then we've been above uh from 56 57 58 61 65 and then this year we were at 83 percent of our staff that was eligible to participate in our wellness screening so that's um that'll be about twelve thousand dollars for the district

so thank you to our committee for all the hard work and for promoting the event i know a lot of people uh help cancel in the setup karen with the breakfast for the staff our committee for planning these events and then um yeah it's just it's fantastic that we had as many people participating news thank you very much and i'll just add to that um jeff rattled off the percentages but you know in that first year when we didn't make the cut we got really aggressive about how do we get creative how do we engage people to be a part of this because it really benefits the employees to participate and so um you know jeff is being very modest i mean he really took this project on he gathered a committee of people who

wanted to work with him and and make this happen and um you know i'm just so proud because it's an example of hard work over time um so many of these things do not um you know just happen overnight um it's just one of those things that you have to be persistent about i think we've seen the sign you can lower the sign please so that the people because behind you can see could you lower the sign please if if you cannot lower the sign we'll be needing to contact the police to come and ask you to remove the signs so that the others in the audience can view yes thank you yes so that people could see from behind here we need to see the school board thank you thank you thank you so

yes moving on to administrative reports uh the superintendent's report um for april yes thank you uh so april has been a busy month uh it's hard to believe that we are all the way through april already looking at may um i would like to hit a few highlights from the report um i was very thrilled to have a board member orientation for our newborn members last friday we spent a half a day together and had an opportunity for them to meet many of the department heads here hear about our programs take a tour of the school et cetera um so hopefully that was a great use of their time i know we all really appreciated having that opportunity with each of them um in terms of community relations um as you know i have served

as the rep to pta while colleen has been on maternity leave um and i'm just really excited about all the various events i have planned they too get really busy towards the end of the school year i also had the opportunity to visit the newly renovated skokie public library and it is fantastic i encourage all of you to teach an opportunity to come over um we had sort of a sneak peek and again a couple of our newly elected board members joined us and um we just had a great tour of the facility what a gem for skokie to have a facility like that for our students and families um so we're really excited to see them be able to open up full speed eventually um they are still under covered protocols as well um

moving on um we are working on recommendations for the boards here next month in terms of adding some additional support positions for intervention we believe that this is a proactive approach to the next school year to have additional staff on hand to help with that uh we are working with again to address unfinished learning and prioritizing standards and math so that we can start our students off on the right foot at the beginning of the year in terms of fiscal management and planning support staff contracts will be issued to our support staff members uh the first week in may so we've developed all those contracts and we're looking carefully at the us are funding and how we might be able to analyze those dollars and assess meet our students needs um long and short-term planning

i want to give a quick update on the equity audit um we are now moving into phase four of the audit this is the phase where there's not a whole lot happening here in the district um at this point we've handed over all the data and all the items that the consultant has requested and she and her team are parsing through all of that data and developing their understanding of what's happening in the district um and this phase will take several months over the course of the summer we're still on target to receive a draft to the report probably october and november so that is continuing on um summer curriculum we're thinking about planning for this summer sorry teachers you can get a little break but we are happy to again support our staff in

doing some learning over the summer as well as some planning um so we'll be pushing out some projects and also opening this to folks to be able to submit projects of their own um we are planning for the return to school in the fall it's my expectation that we will have all of our learners back in person and we are really excited about that so more to come on that front um in terms of personnel management uh insurance open enrollment has started and we continue to plan end of the year activities to our eighth graders um so that is just a quick rundown um archon lesson archon will be attending the may 18th board meeting um so that they can provide an update to the board about the progress we've had multiple meetings with many

stakeholders um they'll be visiting with the board on may 18th and then shortly thereafter we'll be gathering community groups um and particularly some of the neighborhood around here because we want them involved in the planning process as well so we're really excited about that and that's my report for april can i answer any questions any questions thank you just thank you thank you very much new um that we're proposing to adopt regarding the finances of of the district um is there any other questions or whatever that anybody has about this particular policy everybody clear on yes okay good pretty simple policy why is this the proving one i like it i i will just mention that this was also included in the strategic plan this is one of the initiatives that was indicated for this

year so we're very pleased that we can move forward and and kind of have this policy in place going forward so thank you everybody great um so board committees and representatives um um i'm going to keep it short there's been a change over at inrad uh the executive director sarah hartley left at the end of march and uh they've appointed a new uh executive director bridget everson i'd encourage you to check out the website she has some information about her background um i've met her just this last week it seems lovely and uh you know i'm sure she's going to really work hard with with aerobed to to bring new things to edward um the other thing that they're following us right now it's almost impossible to even measure some of the ones that they

do have a build tracker on the edwards website if there are any that you're particularly concerned with or you want to see what is actually out there but obviously this is the busiest time of year legislative wise um because we're coming up you know this is a spring session that finishes at the end of may was of a great deal of concern i had a lot of emails from edward but also from iasb was about hbi7 hb7 house bill 7 about school consolidation and i was both groups iasb and um and uh edward were both putting up call to action i understand from cindy that uh she and jeff reacted to that um it was all a little bit rushed last week um and in fact it did go to the vote on friday night

then it did not pass so the idea was that there was a enforced consolidation of schools um so that obviously had the potential to affect us personally so uh we're pretty glad about that one um the other thing was that this talking for executive board members i i don't know if there's anyone interested here but if you want to check out the application you can see that online but other than that i'd like to say there's just so many bills that they're following right now um too many to mention so uh a brief report and we'll now go to mtd this week for his final report for ndds final report um and luckily just because of timing you definitely have the blue brief here um updated us on senate bill 517 which is the equalized

funding bill um she had given testimony at the state level she's very active in that she talked to us about staffing updates she participated in a virtual job fair through the illinois community college's career services currently ntdsd has about 80 paraprofessionals and they need to go up to a hundred so they're looking to hire paraprofessionals um so she thought that was very very beneficial she talked about the extended school year that's for students who have ieps it's on their iep that they receive summer school and for students who are in ntdsc programs the enrollment is high but for township kids the enrollment was pretty low at this point so there was a push to the districts to make sure families know that extended school year is available for students with ieps just like the students

in our buildings the students at ntd nt dsc have to take state assessments the state assessment for students with handicaps is the iar illinois assessment of readiness and um as challenging as it is for our students to take the test this is a one-on-one administered test for all the students so that takes up quite a bit of time and energy uh just like we had talked about here the last couple board meetings working on the sofa guidelines i'll be very involved with that just as we are here tyrion hadn't met with the morton grove board of trustees because they had to uh approve their renovation project which they did that is all on target very very exciting groundbreaking will be um august september this year for the first phase and the second phase will be

a year from now in the summer we had the first reading of the fiscal 21 budget and uh the governing board approved just the staffing projections the administrator contracts and 12-month employee contracts so it was a pretty straightforward meeting i think you missed something i think you missed the fact that it said ms kendrick thanked member of her 12 years of service on the ntdsc governing board [Applause] it's been my pleasure to represent uh the needs of fairview being on the governing board for ntdse and a fine job you did thank you very much okay and another final report from from john pta thank you i've had the uh i guess the honor really of of being the board liaison to the pta for eight years now and it's been a real pleasure working with

the group especially this last year i have nothing but admiration i know the teachers have had to be very creative this past year and the the parent teacher association has been equally creative they have they have been doing all sorts of amazing things to to keep their membership together and and giving programs as well as services to the staff and to the students and i have nothing but admiration for them uh i met with uh i met with them at their general meeting on april the 14th and i shared with them what we had done at our fairview board meeting on march the 16th um i pointed out to them that we had a presentation from patrick healy our tech director about the student online personal protection act and i shared with them at the

uh at the pta meeting that the fairviews had an excellent uh description of what the soba act really is it's is simply a an act that guarantees the student data is protected when being collected and is only used for beneficial purposes and has all sorts of safeguards put in there for for the teachers as well as for the students and the parents um i talked to them about the action items that we did at the board meeting that and in march that we approved the personnel report we approved a two-year contractor renewal with our maintenance group that keeps the building looking so clean and nice and we also approved a three-year intergovernmental agreement for the ell parent center and again that was also described in the in the fairviews so uh that that was the

meeting thank you great and again thank you john for your service to the pta uh a relatively new innovation we we brought it in just cindy and i decided years ago we needed to do that to make that connection to make that connection each time when you took that on and did a fabulous job for you thank you thank you mr secretary [Music] we are extremely grateful to the board for your um outpouring of support and love during this time we are loving every minute of being a family of five i'm grateful to have this time at home with my family love colleen nick nicki jack and charlotte wonderful love good news okay uh we are streaming ahead of the delay uh some public comments um are there many members of the audience that wish

to address the board um you will be limited to three minutes if you just give me one second um [Music] to allow a way for me to communicate to you all i'm not fully vaccinated yet and i have a lot of family members that caught it so that would mean a lot to me also i'm here i'm hoping that um i'm going to push for the equity dean of equity or equity officer or equity lawyer um i think it's really needed and i know you all are waiting for the equity audit to take place um but i feel like it's not needed to wait we definitely need more culture and more teaching of what's happening in the country that's affecting um many people of color like myself um husband is black so i think it's

very important very important for my kids to understand to understand that they're students understand uh the plight that they're against here in this country thank you thank you thank you this comment last month but it wasn't responded to um because of kind what roxanne was talking about this virtual format yeah i think actually i've been at several board meetings since last fall where i was the sole person here and so i think participation has definitely increased when the meetings have been virtual so i think i'd really like the board to consider some kind of virtual opting in format um for public participation um going back to the february board meeting concerning the relevant equity officer um i would like to demand actually that parents input be really taken into consideration we had a position of

over 50 signatures that we shared with the board and the superintendent administration um asking for an equity officer and for a parent advisory committee some kind of liaison between the school and ipoc families um that often are very marginalized from school matters um also i think that you know because i know there was this conversation what did we call this position we called it dean we called an officer i think that's just semantics and actually a distraction um the real work is actually putting someone in leadership that can oversee how far behind this district is um compared to a lot of skokie and niles districts in terms of curriculum hiring practices um with teachers staff leadership of color um you know anchor text in the classroom i don't think my daughter yet has read a

book um as a as a as the central text in her class um author or by protagonist those things really change the mental trajectory of a child's life and so i'd really like for the board to really strongly consider someone who could oversee this implementation other things i see this person helping the district do denouncing white supremacy um denouncing acts of hate in the community and society at large sharing grief around local and national events of tragedy health coaching and facilitating culturally responsive year-round curriculum and instruction staffing libraries and teachers classrooms with books by diverse authors hiring entertaining administrative teachers and staff identities coaching teachers ongoing all staff through anti-racism and implicit bias and so like you know i was like what would this person do i think that definitely qualifies for a full-time position

um and again to not you know get distracted by some semantics so i don't want to thank the board members who kept that conversation going that meant the world to us community members who've been asking for these things since last summer um and also i just wanted to thank the board for having to maintain a remote option for our children because i know that there was a district that like mandated everyone go back so i really want to thank the board for keeping a virtual option for families um and yeah thank you for your time thank you thank you [Music] oh [Music] um [Music] and addressing their concerns uh i think makes you sit easier with your decisions because your decisions are gonna especially with the pandemic are difficult and so the more that you

engage parents the more that you give them an opportunity to voice their concerns the more support you have for whichever decisions you make because there are people that support your decisions and there are people who don't like some of the decisions so if you can have a consistent electronic format i think that would be better for engaging in the community uh and then also i would like to follow up on the equity officer position uh you didn't talk about it it was a line item in the budget um there was that awesome discussion um but i haven't heard anything since and so i would appreciate a response there and then i would just like to say thanks to the three board members so long who's this is their last music meeting on the board when

it wasn't popular when there weren't engaged parents and when there was no one to run against um and so that is a totally endless job even more thankless than when it's competitive and people are out there um arguing about what the popular positions are so thank you very much for your service it means a lot to this to this community to serve when no one was up there saying please sir please serve you know this is super important so thank you thank you for taking my comment thank you very much are there any other comments good evening uh on behalf of the fba i just want to thank our outgoing school board members mr delgenio mr bill mrs goldberg um the teachers at fairview truly appreciate the countless hours you've spent over your many many

years serving the fairview community every member of the community is better off because of your work and your leadership um that you have tirelessly tirelessly dedicated year after year please know that the entire fair you teach staff is grateful to you and we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts we hope to continue seeing you around the community so one last thank you um to all the borders uh the ita appreciates your eagerness to step up and contribute to the fairview community and we believe that the fairview community is stronger for the passion that led you to run for office and for the school board um generally speaking and then finally to our new board members um this is mrs d mr guliana and we're looking forward to working with you in

the coming weeks thank you thank you [Music] um first thing i wanted to say i know this is long overdue but um back in february 18 when teachers had our second dose for the vaccine i really want to thank the board and the administration for having foresight i know it was a difficult decision to make because a lot of our we just got over parent-teacher conferences and the families were home and to call a remote day the day after our vaccination it was a i i was so worried about how i was going to be and just knowing having peace of mind that i could teach from home and let me tell you i was very tired and fatigued and just knowing that in between i could take a little thank you for thinking about

that i know it's difficult with the parents um secondly i want to thank three outgoing board members i want to start with you john i've known you the longest um i was lucky enough to teach your child when i was a student teacher here at fairview north with will and thank you for taking a chance on me and hiring me in this great district and i also want to thank you for being on all the communities i happen to be on the curriculum reading adoption science social studies um i enjoyed seeing you walking around the school interacting with the children and looking at all the things that we've accomplished in this world so thank you for taking the time you have to be tired you still wanted to serve so i thank you and i

also want to thank your wife for making the lovely masks for our children thank you jeff i had kayla i loved her i just want to say i had more fun with michelle it was raining that day we had such a blast she made it so fun and i want to thank you also for everything you've done you've been serving a long time and thank you for listening i know things aren't easy but you were willing to stick around and thank you thank you vicky i had the honor of teaching with vicky i think i was with you when you were about to give birth to carrie and we talked kindergarten together when you laugh that was sad and you came back as a board member and you served all these years i want to

thank you for everything you've done for a fairview again it's not easy and and knowing that you were on the board so thank you for all your service i also want to thank all of our members because this year was difficult i i go home crying every day because it's so hard and just knowing that you support us and the families it just brings peace of mind i know these aren't easy decisions um i also want to thank ford for allowing me to participate in this tokyo seed for eight months now uh colleagues and i have been attending these monthly meetings talking about race talking about how it's going to affect us and what our action plans are going to be for next year so i greatly appreciate that opportunity i know my colleagues do

as well i also want to thank them because i was able because of that to join the um agency happening in the country especially with atlanta shootings and everything it was so nice to have a home so that was offered through niles township district you know so i just want to thank you all for allowing us to have as teachers a lot of these opportunities and thank you to the new coming incoming um members i hope that you continue the tradition that these lovely people have set forth and um we will miss you we welcome you and thank you again thank you yes [Laughter] [Music] wow i only get two minutes right okay three minutes okay well maybe he's five then maybe three can't even express the respect that i have for all of you

and the people that are coming onto the board you know after hearing bernadette and thinking wow john we've been around for a long time vicki known you for a long time you left before i got here i think i don't even remember but i know that you've been you've been in connection with you taught all your kids and it's just part of my heart i just wanted to say thank you before i just start reading my little speech here okay and one other thank you um i didn't send a thank you card for my my shoulder but i wanted to thank you guys for sending me something to make me think that fairy was was back there for me so thank you very much okay i came here today because a thank you note would

not have been enough just to appreciate the respect i have for all the people that are in front of me now all of you been part of my life for many years you have done so much not only for me my family and i but the entire school and community all of you are all of you and the previous school boards administration and staff have made my experiences here at fairview an honor to work here for the past 31 years you've always made me feel that my family and i were more important than the job this is something that not very many people can experience to other schools when i was a union president you always work with us to make sure our school stood out as one of the best schools in the state

as i move on with my life i look forward to seeing all the good things fairview will continue to do to support the teachers and their families the students and the community as you have done for my family and i want to watch our progress thanks to your three members and welcoming the new board members that are coming in although i'm happy i am moving on with my life i will miss being here at fairview thank you very much for everything that you guys have done for me and my family and always thinking and that's where the fairy family has always been and i look forward for the rest of the ferry family that this will continue on forever so thank you very much [Applause] is there any more public comment nope i think we're

good thank you very much everybody okay so um um so first of all we have a consent agenda to approve the resolution reaffirming the transportation hazardous areas to accept the results of the board election of april and to approve the new board policy for colon 20 operational services and fund balances uh is there any additional conversation to do this the hazardous areas is just an annual thing correct correct um hazardous areas so that we can receive reimbursement for our bus transportation this is something we do annually um and the yeah the rest we've already discussed so if there are questions i'm happy to answer them [Music] any questions on that or any of the other two parts of the consent agenda okay the secretary please call the role yes mrs governor yes mr darginio mr

shermer yes miss illinois yes i vote yes yes consent agenda is approved next action item uh is uh did we get emotional second on that i was just gonna say we did not have no we did not i'm sorry it's right there i missed it so our motion yeah apologies about that um so uh to approve a one-year extension of the administrator and administrator contract [Music] second okay this was discussed in closed sessions there's no further discussion um could the secretary please call the role i will yes i vote yes mrs brown yes yes mr sherman yes yes this is [Music] any monitors to be bought before the board i have a couple of them i'll let people go first uh okay um for the benefit of the other board members and the income and

the public generally it has been mentioned was brought up in public this evening about the opportunity to have a very common option outside actually coming to a meeting it was raised last month um board member sharma raised it in his comments and wanted it for future consideration too um it was decided not to actually include it in this particular meeting um because we are transitioning to a new board and obviously whatever decisions i've made today would be something that the future board would actually have to continue with um there is also an opportunity to the for the board to discuss this idea extensively next week when there is new board training um so it was agreed that we would actually address this at the next board meeting um so you can anticipate that we will

have further discussion um training next week and then um further discussion in public at the next board meeting um the other thing i was going to mention is i had a notification from the iasb about um proposals for the delegate assembly which takes place at the conference in november these would be uh the proposals to go to iesv on issues that that we would wish them to pursue legislatively with with congress in in springfield um if any of the board members have any ideas that they would want to put forward um i always approach me and we'll work on something together and uh put that in i believe the deadline is is sometime this summer in june july something like that so um don't forget your statement of economic interest if you haven't done it

already you have to do it by the first of may so let's do the board then okay so if there are no other items for future consideration i now have the pleasure of administering the oath of office to our newly affected board members i haven't got really i think we were doing that again okay now i'm sorry rewind you know i can only do this every couple of years we're going to actually do the recognition of outgoing board members first get you off the table okay um so i've already heard some great compliments um and uh lovely words from from some of our staff and community um about our three board members that are leaving and now it's my turn i decided that i would just attack them alphabetically um so the first one on

my list being jeff jeff brill jeff girl came on board in 2005 and so he served 16 years on the board um most recently he's been our board secretary and does a fabulous job of keeping everything in order and recording all the words and uh struggling with handwriting when it comes to the handwritten thank you khan definitely a tricky job for recent years he's been on our finance committee so he's been helping work with with jeff bayer overseeing the finances of the school um uh jeff had three goals that i think of you um i've gone on to great wonderful things uh one is a gymnast one is uh the other one just qualified as a lawyer so kudos to them um jeff doesn't always chatter on too much as much as some of the

other members but you can guarantee that everything he says is always relevant and it's it comes permanent a great deal of experience of looking out for the best well children and we're extremely grateful for your service to the board uh i know i'm going to see you in the neighborhood because your wife michelle is one of our best friends um so uh we're going to see the neighborhood um and we hope that it continues that way and you'll come back and visit us but we're extremely grateful for your services aboard and we have a little something for you thank you very much which brings us to john uh john's a little more complicated john did two stints on the board from 1988 to and then from 2000 2002 to 2021 and in case you can't

do that that quick that's a total of 24 years dedication to this war which is truly commandable um in that time john's done everything john's been on every committee and and taken on almost every role um he most recently uh you know before that it was education in my time uh he does a family this job of stepping in as secretary on the occasion when when jeff couldn't be here um john's professional career was just human schools and that experience and insight has been absolutely invaluable so many times when john say something that literally no one else in the room had thought about his insight in terms of his experience with children the way they the way they work the way they run the way they think has just been absolutely indispensable most recently most

recently as we mentioned earlier he's been our pta representative and has done a fabulous job of representing the board at that meeting and also vice versa bringing the news back from bta to the board um i know that he's uh been retired for several years now but i i know that just leaving the border responsibilities will just allow him to have even more time with his wonderful wife liz and his grandchildren and grandchildren which i'm happy that you're now actually able to hug them again which is just fabulous news um i will see you in the neighborhood for sure and in case you didn't know it john is a mean football player and he is the only person that i play at scrabble online and he beats me regularly so he's a great competitor and

a great word smith and brought the scrabbles card to the school didn't you i was forgetting that six years i think yeah yeah so um i mean i could talk for hours about johnson great deal of gratitude for all that you've brought to the board and all that you've brought to fairview so thank you very much john it is purely alphabetical okay but i come to you last purely alphabetical um vicki has served on the board since 2009. um so all three of our board members this evening that are leaving the board are the last service board members right now um so vicky has served for 12 years um currently vice president and uh as we mentioned earlier you have represented ndic ntdsc for the last 12 years too which is a fabulous achievement and

we're extremely grateful for seeing that through this there's been considerable changes in that 12 years too so um vicky had children two children go through fairview one of whom i knew jordan was the same year as my daughter uh vicky as an educator teaching about first so bought a grade of experience from her own experience in teaching to uh to the board and had a wonderful understanding of just what our teachers were dealing through with especially in this last year with covert because she was thinking that herself so um another thing about she was always my partner in crown going to the isp conference every year not last november obviously but every year we go to conferences together and had a fabulous time and uh our lunches at potbellies i will miss um it was

great working with you all these years um i know that that we will still see each other as well um because we have many mutual friends i'll see you up in galena for sure um and we really do appreciate everything you have for the board your personal experience your professional experience um uh not to overuse the word but everything has been just invaluable and it's worth recognizing that it's a total of 52 years between these board members here and their service to this school which i don't think we've had that kind of length of service from board members leaving before today so that is truly truly commendable but thank you very much vicky for everything you've done [Applause] so i'm sorry i got that the wrong way around um now i will ask the three

candidates uh that were successful in the most recent election to come and take their oaths of office uh these members were elected for new four-year terms tackling this day and again so it is actually quite a lengthy swearing in but if you wouldn't mind just just trying to get to them a little bit and uh and speak euros whoever wants to start just read it straight through go ahead we'll read it together is and that decisions through equality education is education and i shall strive to work together knowledge citizenship thank you you can't see but everybody in the room is smiling at you [Music] if you want to just take a seat in the front row and we will wrap up the meeting okay thank you so at this time uh the current board would

take a german cena dea which is just like a suspension of the meeting um so if there is no further business to come before this board i need a motion and a second for a german adjournment cnida so vote i'll second it uh could the secretary please call the wrong mr nye yes yes miss goldberg yes mr algenio yes i vote yes mr schermer yes miss brown expertly done thank you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so uh i am calling to order the uh reorganization meeting of the board of education fairview district 72 april 27 2021 and uh our first role this evening is to establish if we have a car and in the absence of a elected secretary i will call the role so if you could answer if you are present miss booster

mr carcass here miss juliana here miss illinois miss downing mr sherman here and i am here so at this point in the proceedings uh it is for us to appoint a president pro tem pro tempore um the usual uh procedure in this case is that the current president uh the previous president of the outgoing board uh continues president pro tem for the purpose of the election of the offices um if there is an agreement to that around the table then i will continue this any objections okie doke thank you so in my role now of president pro tam i'll proceed with the guidelines as to how to elect the officers of the executive board of the board of education the procedure is established in board policy 2 colon 110 and the offices are the office

of president vice president and the secretary each of those terms are elected for the next two years the elections are held in the order of president then vice president then secretary the newly elected president conducts the election of the vice president and secretary nominations of the candidates can be made by the candidate himself or by another board member and the nominations do not need to be seconded a motion a second and a voice vote are required to close the nominations and uh keeping the record um if only one person is nominated the president pro tem will ask for a vote if more than one president is not a prisoner with more than one person is nominated a role called vote will be conducted to each candidate in the order of nomination the voting continues until

one member receives a majority of the votes cast and on the upon the conclusion of the election the newly elected president resumes the direction of the meeting is that clear to everybody okay so the first of those positions is the position of president are there nominations for president if you have a nomination could you speak it i nominate marianne brown for president okay are there any other nominations can i have a motion and a second to close the nominations so moved did you get that second by sharing by sharing okay all those in favor of closing nominations say hi hi any opposed say they okay in that case i'll call a roll call vote to approve the nomination of myself marianne brown to continue as president of the board of education uh how do you

vote mr sherman yes miss downing yes mr lenoir yes miss yes okay thank you very much for your confidence in me i really appreciate it i'm happy to continue serving as your president for the next two years okay so in resuming my result role as president uh i would like to consider nominations for the position of a vice president there nominations for the position of vice president i don't know i will nominate shirin lanoy do you accept the nomination are there any other nominations first vice president i nominate diana dukakis for vice president [Music] vice president are there any nominations for vice president can i have a motion and a second to close to nominations to the vice president so moved i'll second all those in favor of closing the nominations for vice president say

aye aye aye any opposed say name working around the table [Music] no you got it okay i ask a question um i'll remove myself from running as a vice president you want to remove your nominations yes that's right okay that's fine mr carcass is removed her nomination so we're still voting on the nomination of mr lloyd how do you vote me no okay uh miss illinois how do you vote i can go to the next person okay yes how do you vote yes three months purely based on our conversations early today i hope you know that's not personal at all it's not personal at all no it's fine okay the other nomination for vice president is sean juliana mr juliana how do you vote for your own nomination yes mr shama no miss bruce day

yes mr caucus yes miss downing no miss nanoi no and once again it's depends on my phone i'm basing this on the fact that there were no other volunteers that were willing to go forward for this position so i vote yes so mister [Music] mr truly is elected the vice president of the board congratulations thank you the next position is the position of secretary um are there any relations for the position of secretary nominated as secretary are there any other nominations secretary can i have a motion in a second to close the nominations for the position of secretary moved on second all those in favor say aye many of mostly the nominations are closed and having only one nomination the nomination is for uh aaron schermer to continue as secretary of the board of education

all those in favor say aye aye hi hi any opposed aaron congratulations you are now the board secretary congratulations to both of you okay having established our um active thoughts um [Music] standing committees outside of the executive committee there is the education and technology committee the finance and personality and the failing science and transportation committee there are two board members in each committee one is a chairperson and one as a member it is usual that the chairperson will report to the board uh following any committee meetings that are held during the months between board meetings um these positions are something that are determined by the president myself it is obviously preferable that we we have some sort of continuity in each of those committees the position we're in that the president is is not part

of those committees the possession the the committees are just the other six members and the position we're in right now is that um several of those board members have now left the board we have uh various positions open therefore the the the way that we usually approach this is that we would go around the table and each board member would express which committee that they would prefer to be on and then give me also an alternative and potentially talk about their reason for preferring one committee over another um and then i will take that information away and i will notify each of the board members in the next day or so as to which committee uh we would like them to to uh be on so we'll just go around the table if that's okay

um and start if i could just add i have explained each of the committees to the newly elected board members so they have a sense of what the involvement is and what it's about thank you yeah i i have to i thank you do you have any other questions about those committees are you comfortable okay i should have asked that first i'm sorry and you're starting with the um in-house district committees and then moving on to the out of district again i had them the other way around at first but now we're talking about education technology finance and buildings grounds and transportation perfect thank you okay so we'll just go around the table do you mind starting aaron which would be your first choice of committee and which would be your second choice so i

i have been serving on the building and grounds committee i i really enjoy working on that committee uh but i'm also happy to participate in in any of the um any committee where i'm needed so i don't i don't have a preference i enjoy building in grounds but i'm happy to serve on a different committee if that would make your job a little easier thank you okay sorry which communication my preference would be finance and personnel and my alternate would be education and technology okay jackie which would sorry which would be your uh first choice alternative um i have a question the upcoming plans or you know um on the renovations and the expansion of fairview is that all under building grounds and transportation it's definitely something that they would be discussing yes it is

about the sort of building and construction itself um obviously uh the finance committee would be considering that because building costs money um so uh yes but the the groundwork um the groundwork that's happened up until now has been between aaron and shireen serving on those committees in terms of working with architects and so on so um i would be interested in building grounds into transportation or the variance of finance okay education and curriculum or finance finance nora i'm currently on the education committee i'd prefer to stay there just being a teacher i feel like i have some valuable input there but i'm willing to go anywhere other than finance anything but finance [Laughter] so basically education and all buildings and grounds and shireen i'd like to stay on building grounds excellent okay well thank you

for your input on that um i just said i'll look at that and uh get back to you the next day so to determine exactly who is on those committees and then obviously from there um dr whitaker and her staff will be contacting you about future meetings representatives of the committees and organizations outside of the of the board itself so we have the nttsc representative um it is one permanent representative plus an alternate so that uh in you know the event that somebody else could take over on occasion the iasb uh this is a representative who would represent the board at isb dinner meetings and also attending the annual conference and serving as the board's delicate delicate delegate sorry um [Music] to the pta and also in turn report back to the board from the

pta and ed red which is the education advocacy group um that represents school districts in springfield um if we attack those in order so ntwc uh are there any um preferences from people here that to represent ntds i would like to i could put my name in there so nora having been the ultimate up until now i've attended a couple of the board meetings um i've watched vicky's reports but i also um special education is pretty close i do so i just i'm curious where they're heading so i'd be happy to represent us okay um there is this is just really by an agreement this this establishing these committees so um and i was just going to add it behooves us to select that person tonight so that we can actually have a seat at

the table at their next meeting um if we have to wait until next time you know someone for that um we won't be able to attend at the table it may not matter um but it would be nice but it would be nice can i step right in is there anybody else interested in ntdc would anybody like to be the alternate to nor i'll be the alternate alternate alternate what did i say alternate tomato tomato yes so is everybody in agreement that nora will continue to step up to the level of being the representative and diana you're happy to be an alternate that'd be great thank you um with the iasb representation um i am the one who's done that in the past few years as the delegate uh at the delegate assembly um for

the november conference and uh also attending the dinner meetings and and so on i'm happy to continue that and listen to take that for me i i genuinely don't mind um obviously it involves attending the conference in november which is like a two-day thing in november and attending the meetings twice a year i see you shaking your heads [Laughter] does anybody want to do it are you happy for me to continue happy for you to continue thank you thanks okay okay pta liaison um is it anybody that would wanted to do that which as i said would mean attending the pta meetings representing the board and then reporting back no does anybody go to the pta meeting i can do it sorry this is usually a monthly commitment sometimes it's the general meeting sometimes it's

the executive committee meeting uh they have been meeting remotely um the meetings typically last about an hour i would say if that's fair um so just to give you sort of a sense of that diana just uh volunteered oh yeah yeah i thought i heard you say that i didn't want to interrupt you it's okay diana if you're willing to do it i'm willing that's that's great thank you so diana will be our pta liaison and you can work with cindy about exactly how how would you report and then edward um i i don't think i mentioned it to you both members but i used to work for edward so um i'm very familiar with them they actually share the office with the organization that i work for they are literally six feet away from

me um so i'm very happy to continue in that role just because i have this relationship with them i i know what they do um and it means going to the i'm trying to go to the to the edward media unfortunately it often clashes with my own organization's board meeting which is not really something i can knock out of but um i'm happy to continue that role is that okay that would be great thumbs up excellent marianne yeah if there's an alternate for pta i'm happy to do that if that's something so you can assist really not a bad idea yeah it by all means share the role um but obviously that just means some sort of communication between you and and certainly communication between yourselves and uh dr whitaker before you present in terms

of what is reported so thank you jackie no reason why we shouldn't have an alternative okay uh the next appointment is of recording secretary it's recommended that gloria messi be appointed to continue her role as recording secretary for the board of education remuneration and reimbursement expenses of her duties continue as a recording secretary so moved i'll secondly okay did the recording secretary get her own nomination okay uh for this because there is renumeration involved this requires a roll call vote so uh miss diakakus did you vote yay or nay mr juliana mr yeah miss bruce day yes miss darling yeah mr sherman yes and i voted yes thank you gloria you've got good work she's the only one who gets remuneration okay uh the next discussion is to establish regular meetings um over um there

has been some discussion about this because the current arrangement of things on a tuesday at night is is difficult for diana and her work commitments i also understand that thursday night and wednesday uh tuesday night and thursday night i worked till 6 30. so i was gonna ask if wednesday's worked if not then i can go back to my employer and see what i can do okay well in another conversation i spoke to everyone earlier today who has an issue with mondays and wednesdays so somehow we've got to work this out um and you you said you were going to technical schedule yes this is the semester i teach monday and wednesday evenings uh but next semester uh i i as of right now uh i don't have evening i will have one evening in

the spring okay semester um but i don't know that that's been set yet so i can confirm that that won't be on a wednesday uh and if that is the case then wednesdays would work for me next year um because this this was an awkward conversation about how did you do diana and then i had with you and i thought oh my gosh this is not going to work so um i i've only really had conversations with them thursday it wednesdays wednesday is not an issue for me i can make wednesday's work but thursday if you ever have to look at that that's the one day i can't do it you can't do when thursday correct you can correct can everybody else do wednesday yes yes okay it looks like you shipped into wednesday then

it sounds like that actually i'm sorry erin when did you think are you currently teaching monday wednesday correct but that will be ending in the next week so oh oh okay i'm sorry i didn't understand so so now you have to check for spring 2022. okay okay uh i misunderstood sorry but and i can confirm it at this point i probably still could change it if it was wednesday i i should be able to move it so i'll look into that so as of right now i think wednesdays will work okay okay and our usual date was the third tuesday of the month so we would shift to the third wednesday of the month does that sound good literally just one day later each time um no i think it was gonna work out for

for the uh the school administration to shift to later uncomfortable with that's also so good we may be a conflict with pta or not yeah i i don't think they've set their meetings yet for the last year but they have been on wednesdays yes um so i can talk yeah no not necessarily the same no it's never the same as us because we go to those meetings too so it's never been conflict so in your packet we just laid out what it looks like is tuesdays what it looks like like it's thursdays assuming that you guys can figure that part out um so we will um re-look at that and present a a wednesday calendar going forth okay and so we'll establish that it will be the first wednesday of the month going forward and

these dates will be set for the next two years they're obviously not absolutely cast in stone things happen but um that we aim to do it regularly and i think the only other things that changes it correct jeff is that in terms of the budget and uh yeah from time to time at the time because we have a 30-day requirement or something like that we might have to look at those dates to bump it back a week like in election year we had to bump it back a week to be able to cancel the election results so we will adjust that as we give you a uh draft calendar for you to look at okay okay so uh i just need a voice vote to approve that we will establish a beating schedule of the

third wednesday of the month for the next year next two years and the time will be the regular meeting time of seven o'clock and the place will be at school here um all those in favor say aye any birthday night okay that's established and just be clear the main meeting will still be on tuesday evening so yes that may be one that you have to adjust for but then beginning um in june we would go to that third wednesday okay so everybody's on the same page okay and just to clarify that's the start of the board meeting so a closed session meeting would probably start before that correct thank you so if you guys realize we're usually here before the second start easy there is to time yeah so it's usually six or six thirty

okay thank you everyone for being accommodating i'm sorry thank you for being accommodating oh no thank you for offering to even change so lucky we didn't have to okay so um at this point um i offer the floor to public comment are there any members of the audience who would like to address the board usual conditions apply hearing none and if there is no phone bursting system before the board i would like a motion and a second to adjourn our motion a second thank you and the roll call votes okay so approving to adjourn miss down yes you forgot the question okay yes mr roy yes mr yes mr steve carcass yes mr juliana yes mr sherman yes and i vote yes okay meeting us again at 8 46 thank you very much everybody uh

tricky conversation but we got through it thank you very much thanks for your cooperation and your generosity and your understanding thank you just to remind you next month about next week next week yes yes please do not forget next week next week at 7 o'clock here at the school we're actually going to be because it will be a small crowd um for uh board training and that starts at six o'clock next tuesday excellent that's it thank you [Music]
