good evening everyone and I'd like to welcome you to the media the whole board meeting and and we'll call the word this many of the whole board meeting on Tuesday December 10th 2019 at 6:35 p.m. and ask for a roll call mr. Copsey yeah miss Bobbye here mr. Barun here miss Harris here conducting warm here before you finalize your tax levy I strongly encourage all of you to meet with powerful with her Township Assessor Alianza Hart Hawley spoke at last night's Oak Park Township board meeting about what he sees and hears in his interactions with taxpayers both in the home buying and selling process along with through property tax appeals ollie is in my opinion the most qualified PokePark elected official to talk about the tip expiration in its impact on taxpayers from his comments

I was particularly struck by the fact that he said this year the final year before next year's triennial reassessment has been his department's busiest year normally he commented the final year before a triennial reassessment his slowest he has been dealing with taxpayers property owner taxpayers all year but again I encourage you to meet with him and share the comments he may or may not be aware that I began an online citizen led petition about three weeks ago this petition asking each of the five difficut warrants asks each of the five tip affected boards from property tax relief and it now has fourteen hundred made supporters we really are asking the boards to provide tax relief to residents over the last ten plus years both renters and homeowners alike have funded the massive Reserve which d200

currently holds we've done more than our share to fund current educational activities you haven't suffered nor have you wanted during the tenth period please do not ignore the citizens of our all the citizens of our community regarding tonight's agenda policy to : at 100 or member conflict of interest as you complete first reading I ask that you add language to the policy that addresses a board members inherent conflict of interest by their either earning significant personal income from or by being an active member or officer of an educational Union or organization that actively supports educational unions the policy in its current form and s presented does not adequately identify to eliminate the risk to our community caused by conflict of interest thank you for your time and service to our community thank you [Music] is

there anyone and I will move into our Hudson portion and turn it over to dr. Perez I'm going to speak to the identify changes that were made so on the first one to color 104 member conflict of interest the language deathless and it was tied to board members shall not participate in this election on the ward and this is through any means of getting money's on a contract they have personal relationships with a family member has a personal relationship with that the board member is a business appointment or an entity that of court appoints or is about to employ the board member and this is a - with the grant accountability of what on his game so any questions on that the next policy is a qualification for charters and duties and this is for

policy to color 100 if the new language is very short pants or as the role the president serves as our table point to be the voice of special spokesperson or assign someone else when it comes to to media Korean they added a new line that if the board president is subject of a complaint of sexual harassment a witness or otherwise complete fiddle client will qualified outside investigator they could identify someone else any questions the next one is the powers Board of Education indentification and the new language added to this is for policy to over 20 public duties and voyage and I know the three employees who consider other personnel poignant decision person including determining whether they employee willingly or neglectfully failed to report an instance of suspected child abuse and neglect as required under the

Illinois School Code the other language that the acronym for abused and neglected children you have a long party in the conference [Music] the next one is what board meeting procedures and the language was they took out the language of explanation and added in the second paragraph that did as an agenda as a consent agenda of these are those items that usually does not require extensive discussion it's basically be fine welcome to the conference engine what can you say do high praise my game unpressed the campaign and I'll just say that's how we operate now and that's what is public participation in 40 and this inform policy to pull the 230 public participation and it says the new language is support over our own minimum of 30 minutes during each regular expression for me any person

and come into our asked questions to the board which is both participation subject to reasonable constraints established and recorded in this policies guidelines below during the public participation there's a minimum of 20 minutes total length of time on any one subject excuse me participation takes less time than that that you can close out the public comment section to preserve sufficient time the board can't conduct its business and they list the ways of joining - excuse me it says that the person needs to identify himself and be brief at the time for one person to address before in public comments is the two three minutes and that that person should be at one time but may be allowed to speak more times than it and number three says when necessary and appropriate that's the new language

the time for each person to address the board during participation to complete in the convenience of time to deserve time maybe limit we may limit the number of people and then in bullet point be the expansion of the overall momentum thirty minutes for public participation and on the twenty minute minimal total length of time for one subject and/or if you go down to the next slide it is basically determination of policy regarding public participation discovered and we have a lab to adjust this is when I let me get clarify when I think we may clarify our markers of these minimums our stateís minimis when they're saying it's hence public interest and speaking on the topic so someone speaks for two minutes we've all played guitar for easy moments mmm I'm sorry I spoke this is

you know a thing like expectancy or maximum this is after what to find any single use restrooms any questions the next one is a point at 50 code of conduct and it is similar to that of the more members phone the drug and alcohol free workplace East cigarette and cannabis prohibition policy they added the language for e-cigarettes and for cannabis and also inserted information about that person appears to be impaired that distribution and consumption are being impaired are underneath in the president's what London district services while performing work is basically that allowed and then you can go down further is talks about the purpose of its policy is that when district services mean it's workplaces behind as in compliance with crnch and then the rules of regulations hold that keep it off site for this

bill the district unit and cannabis Marquis and then after stimulation with the time the investigation and that the other my license was added that we have to remind employees that policy 6 : 64 the content requires the district to educate students depending upon their grade about drilling and substance abuse prevention and the relationship between girls at the Hollywood vibe this says cannabis shall have a meaning as provided in school code and law or their CRT a and each Superman there's a definition for one consider and so on and then if you go down important that there's the disclaimer that the bullet reserves the right to interpret revise or discontinue any Pro basis of this policy pursuing of the suspension of policies helping and the policy to college and I will say that there are something

for the recommendations that you seek legal counsel and so we are seeking legal counsel on how to address situations and in terms of our education the component about students where mr. Johnson I know that we have one of our individual works diligently [Music] you know where we can community educated about cannabis and those types of things they'd say our health Kirtland okay and so I touched base with clay rating the division that to say they actually this would make you know resultant any changes to the curriculum as far as just what campuses of course not change that but there is going to be a communication about to what bit and loving the opportunity this year but this is a pertinent part of the curriculum we aren't sure but communicate on exactly what this new law

really does mean that into the process of talking and in terms of [Music] look I guess I eat cigarettes have been a part of the prior policies so the re highlighting women is interesting to me what we do but but in terms of like our employee manual as well as our code of conduct do these things more in changes in those edition of the campus yeah analysts are employed yeah yeah they would changes to chemical so there would have to be that according to the policy of the real estate training or educational course yes [Music] yeah sure you may accept sorry somewhat versa communication I think would be real helpful for the community as a whole have communication some families know what there's some some mothers kind of can't do here to watch we're in

the wash change because it doesn't change what's been done to this point so it's just important be clear they know other very bodies do I go there's a question they came up with something about what each body's doing in response to that and so whatever it is that we may come up with could be important to make sure they're tech somebody's knows well and maybe help them just create less gaps of knowledge yeah sure they say what it means for how we are handling in factions in the school to their eyes and also how cute whatever the no it would be but there's different distinctions that are drawn there in terms of medical cannabis things which are really important so you understand so then it became this what it does it does not Mabel to

have a license to have medical permit to smoke or is it just in some way you know is your this just refers to that's not here but it's an a billion illinois code that can also be helpful link for people value the right link so that people you know can follow the bouncing ball one the ants and how smallness that's that's just one person oh well make sure that that's the overall port direction clarification you mentioned something about you know consulting with our legal counsel my main question really stems from in the document it reference symptoms and you know how we we truly assess and then I saw some reference to something and you know within Colorado or other states are doing that might be is that kind of work its way into our document

or how is that what they suggest what they prefer to refer to our legal counsel with regards of when we have probable suspicion that a person may be under the influence how and when we decide to take them you the protest it is one so we're also seeking legal legal Dinah's regarding medical marijuana and what that looks like but what you send us about what's happening in Colorado could quite possibly add this way into our policy procedure so what setting where this is for first read so received early how how would that work because it sounds like and I know we want to get this in place prior to the law but with how would that once the policy is approved and we we can automatically now start to live in the procedure infected yeah

I'm just having to say how long just miss frankly the the new cannabis law it shouldn't affect anything right it was the medical that would have made a big change located at legal within a school I mean this is just going to be like anything else cigarettes or alcohol or any other drug right it's not about Sharia that is true but right now we don't have a really strong procedure for when we drove texts and so it allows us to really look at the symptoms and that we see to make an informed decision when we do that so then back to Tom's question how did you get the language about the course of action we're going to take into the new policy oh you took the procedure is the aspect of the steps that we

take right but to clarify what triggers bed oh that's what we that's part of the information we did for me what will trigger that for us and then we continue to have it inserted into policy send it to the polar and then tie it to second because one other question that I had has to do with the fact that it says no employee during the course of their work and yet with medical marijuana I mean I'm not talking about alcohol I mean that's the one that triggers all of this how is that something that and course she went to whether the legal sessions on into quite a few for all of us but all the legal determination is really canvas as we would treat alcohol and tobacco so medical would be a time the drug

gent a drug that you cannot come to work under the influence of something prevents you from fulfilling essential job functions you need you have medical pardon there is proof that you're not able to perform your sexual job duties that would disqualify me from being at work so if risen within the medical needs and we were treated as a legal absence until the person gets better and if there is a program in fact they're jealous but you know from a testing standpoint are they different being that for alcohol you can test all it's greater than a certain percentage it indicates that within a certain period of time there's been consumption with marijuana it's not the same and with other things that don't have to say so I am from a joint interest and ability test you

would have reasonable suspicion that it is there's a checklist of what would trigger it so there has to be some sort of impairment that is observed and that's why we're looking to tighten our procedures of how we would go about it answer is reasonable suspicion and that that's Worman illegal but that does not have to be part of the policy there's not a moon shadow procedures which will be communicated so - I just wanna make sure I'm clear we're saying all of the same level alcohol cigarettes tobacco pens that's what my question comes in them so if there's not medical alcohol use and it's not medical you see right peace but there's medical marijuana use so so this this piece here is is this different than a separate piece that it helps with a medical

like you just mentioned or is it included in here interested in this policy that reference is medical but where we have to begin to determine is once we have reasonable suspicion and envy and a procedure the steps that we take and medical is really nothing new so like why somebody could be a could be on different kinds of medication that effects of their executive comp shape so it while it's not illegal to have it a person would not be able to fulfill their job effectively that would seek to put that person on leave I'm building a better interaction problem so likewise it would be the same support direction was radical exactly the next one is the school calendar of the day and this policy is policy 620 and it was just updated to include the

legal reference that addresses the number of hours it takes to have a full school day which is find the open sea use of e-learning and the search of circumstances or so it just has the reference there was no pain yes so it opens the e-learning but is this then by insertion of that then that means that he learned can be implemented yes and so it's a district we've already started that conversation about e-learning and one a pilot at this summer and preparation for how we can stand it up next winter where we have Sundays initially when e-learning came about the state of Illinois only granted the pilot for two districts and as well they actually sent out something to us last month that distress down at the latitude to a planet of alarms and you're

not just restricted to the pilot schools but you have to have a formalized process that you used on how you will attract attendants not only the certified teachers but also the support staff as well in terms of time of doing their work there has to be a process about lessons or uploaded process for the time that the teachers are accessible to students electronically in order to communicate you can't just be the same lesson for every day it has to be something different it's time to the district's curriculum so question it coming the question is that this so crystal muffler this is where the board has them si and whether alluring is permissible yes I guess my comment is question is it is it's eLearning tied to anything you know I I'm looking at it and

say one we have low teacher attendance to we have on our you know on our technological update of how we're advancing we lag in certain areas and yet we're saying then we're going to allow eLearning it's like weird less student interface and we haven't yet demonstrated competence from a faculty standpoint orange is a lagging area yet we're allowing it to be done online so I there's um some stipulations to how districts implement even the two pilot programs work into when they were included with weather days as do student in school rather than lose that time with instruction electronically it allows for that but the district at the latitude to determine how e-learning days are youth and how even learning issues there are some districts in other states that do a long distance or plus a

kid is homebound they use them if there is a kid who's abroad and there's a course that that student can't take where they are they use it that way as a district we would have the latitude to determine competency yeah before the ignited stopped mecan't came off a mistake that dark referring to there was this brief little window where the ABA language is gone the newly DF funding money first place and as a result sniper school another types of well places where student attends days was managed by on seat attendants colleges out of the state code and it was state schools in this area to commands event to experiment with the learning programming read around her there were several that we're in contact with they've done some really good things what we've learned from that

is that it's not really stood out as a place of pilots that covers during the school term implementation but we had this visual literacy class during the summer and you think that's the best place for this because elearning directly feeds it the content area of that class and so we're going to work with that this summer a little bit and see how it goes continue to learn from what those other schools about more than likely this is piloting and as we move into subsequent years the types of questions that you're bringing up are month over in happiness there as we move forward so there are no copy plants just so you're familiar eyes wide open and see what we do to scare myself what what what has been learned from those pilots that may address

the questions and Tom great well yeah I mean before a really comprehensive answer I had to pull some stuff together but I remember talking to the principal of one of the other schools and in pictures put a letter last year and he said the real challenge that initially was ensuring that quality work was actually time so it's not just a matter of monetary incentives things like that to be in place and willing to assist them even if figured out and you know your your approximate time that's right who's logging in and how's that working but when you're talking about snow days to challenge them that I'm talking about is that you don't necessarily have a ready personal you can't have a ready personal of immediately relevant activities to roll out your kids that links what

you didn't yesterday right as a teacher and so what types of activities can be put in place e-learning activities can be place in the school district that are going to know there are kids that are ESP real-time learning in that class and also be ready on a moment's notice that's what exists so that specification you know snow day is like hey yeah I I wonder with all the things that you just said about quality as well as on the you know almost literally heavenly Brady and almost notice if that is the best use learning for so eggs of this like unless there was something for a triggered there were two or three memo or something like that but for once though and just wonder how that would to say but we would have the latitude

in that I will say I said in a presentation where there were superintendents who - superintendent different western state imparted on e-learning and they took over a year to plan but one of the things that they they had to work out as I said the time that teachers need to pop on and be accessible via technology to students the amount of time that there was a way they put into the systems where students actually had to through their Chromebooks or whatever device the school had given to them login so that we know that they were there in order to take attendance and then they had a system where they would if they knew the night before and then there was going to be an e-learning date they had so much time to upload the lessons

they have planned for that day so the students could have access to it the struggle for them was to support staff peace you know what do they do one that they often not all support staff didn't do their jobs virtually from home the downside though is they also shared with us is we did he like they brought him education there was one school who said it was the e day and had not planned and they said it's an e day and once everybody understand attendance and I think that's why they put the guidelines and to ensure that they're no longer happens this you know we can have further discussion we can actually all this until we are at a point in the school system the school district that we want to improve it we will

bring in it for because we are us we thought okay this was really doable because we've been having the conversation about eLearning you know something for some time now it mister think respect there has looked into it to see the ins and outs of it and learning and so maybe it would be helpful before we bring it back to the board is we try to solidify a plan to bring that to you the first is more of a common he the e-learning days have seen I've not seen it in a high school setting so what I'm curious about is like you know how many classes how many teacher is like that do they run through their schedule as you know like there's so many logistic pieces of it that make may have questions about it

sure I can follow up with because the people that I said they were high school okay so I guess another comment that I have is given before we get too far down the road of planning if this is something that requires some level board approval I would want the fact that the question I guess presenting to our faculty as well is this something that feels doable given all of the curriculum and instructional changes we have coming you do make a good wine pub we had some surface level discussion with the chair of the Faculty Senate but not since we've had some of these new things coming down the pike so there's we might had a follow-up conversation so I agree with you that would be warranted and it isn't a better like caution I guess

is is this the best use of our resources both human as as well as other given that typically we have water to snow as a year and if that's the driver or something like this happening it does seem as though there are really rolling around the questions that you brought forward Tom and in terms of high school the day but also would mean in terms of staff training and the technology piece had update lately about one to one also our leader and we do have on planned presentations for January now a regular attack date including bright lights information speaks to something question say here yes oh that dr. Pruitt out of Cedar Point I think the questions that are being raised all of the love 7420 absolutely this sort of conspiracy and so we will

not bring this is the graduation requirement or policy six 300 beginning the next school year it is required that all students all seniors fill out fast hook they even fill out FAFSA or they apply for some state aid if they choose not to they can't they have the option of requesting a waiver but there has to be some dialogue with each senior the remaining financial aid prior to graduation that is now part of a graduation requirement Impa district does not have the conversation at all so there's either not a pencil form a state financial aid form or a waiver then the district has to write a statement saying that we attempted to have the conversation and get those things yeah just on number 6 where it talks about student business is exempt from the requirement

if and upper to references the building principle and I would just just change that might change and then the other addition to that is the service movement diploma and then just said that we've been awarded diploma to a service member who was killed in action while performing active duty that the United States Armed Forces but I don't really well I guess it is a question that this been so business is interesting because it takes them doing to get the pencil completed and having completed it for a number of like students that I mentor and the documentation that's required that happen the families to do do that assistant that I mean I understand I understand where they were coming from with the idea to do this my concern is actually getting that we had each district

as a person who is assigned to them to help get this done there's a role of the councillors to refer the students to their person for additional support that the councilors wanting to give them that someone is assigned from his defense to help with this process for each slowest I think the person is for me as we don't quote there and there oh yeah so we have someone who was assigned to this Parker who's open a conference in the social workers has been made aware of this individual and is encouraging the concerts to get that's a weight to the 11 power to get students in but to start now so the goal is you started the onset of school class of 2021 Emily about 867 help ensure that they all get the best ones to

is be yes and do we have information on what our right of students complete Bachelor prior to this yeah you know I know I heard it come over this year I'm sorry but I don't want to hazard a guess that would be helpful is not it's not you know of something like 70% because the other face of this genus point is that the necessarily straightforward process but there's just that they don't always just it's they don't always assume that your but we've had students in the past there's an educational component addresses I don't know miss he's addressing but we have to address it you know there are families that and I think of several students from this past year whose families refused to fill out a FAFSA forms because they can not understand what it

meant they thought it meant their job or needs debt and so compliance unless on the backend we're just ready to run a hundred letters as you like you know how many kids didn't do it but they're the education component here this exceeds what we're doing now it really does we've talked about adding it to our are nice right we have a family that doesn't even begin to cover the breadth of what you really speak and so yeah there's work at that level there is there's one on one work her small group work that's needed in the school that's gonna take time to get these filled out during that as well so there's there's a lot of space sometimes and required to make this work and for the counselors it would be helpful to understand how

you know how this has been before we have to understand how many counselors have been doing this as a matter of course there are procedures or is it so is it required to pay that let me work with the new partner all right and our student services and get a summary explain processing plants when you get it do they get the week notes because I do think that thank you - we have several - what members that aren't here this evening right right so they have that additional information prior to I'll see if I'm going to speak [Music] so first of all I think from the Scholarship Foundation standpoint that there's merit because this will help this will help you know get the information for those students that are truly needing and and and can

get resources so that's the positive side I seek to this you know the challenge is I think I already there's an opt-out or what is it angry a waiting room and that process needs to be made simple I don't know what it looks like but a FAFSA does include a lot of information that some people nature it's not to want to share it right and they need that right but I will say that right only if they have the correct information yes and that's where it gets to be as slippery slope here welcome back with what the information is been requested and then the last policy of the Community Relations it's 8 : 30 visitors to and concept of school property it's similar to the drug and alcohol each cigarette cannabis abuse prohibited policy and

that the visitors cannot be on school campus or at school sanctioned events under the influence and apparent by any alcoholic beverages cannabis or other unlawful products as I was left at number 14 we just talked about painting and a pristine behavior including rollerblading overstating this paperwork so if I am hearing the board correctly we are actually pulling the graduation requirement for Best Buy - we can't you the additional information and we are pulling the school year calendar with the e-learning component thank you move to instruction and we have a presentation from two of our student preflighting one of their civic projects or still zero or policies that we use colons well samuel.rachael [Music] recognizes that an education environment it was that is expected value contribute to successful educational outcomes for all of our students and

so today we have a presentation from Lizzie that's Elizabeth and from Gia and they are going to present to you today their proposed stupid neural project of OPR em to me in our civics class we had to do a civic learning project do my historical surface you used to turn you're so amazing and we were inspired to make a mural for each student can they express themselves in their own identity so rather than other murals wind beats left students but each person would be able to contribute to it it would look something like this we would have a top banner with the ochre to meet in each student will get me a self-portrait they'll all come together and paint so if we're project your tool to choose an issue you're passionate about or something that

happened to us and the reason that popped into my head was last year when all the heat build for the evening of our school and being both Jewish and african-american it really welcome here and I just wanted a way to make everyone feel included and then I saw the storm of the Julian mural that left diversity and how they made a new one and I thought that we should be something like back here where each student can contribute themselves and how their own idea and I think it are so artistically combats that repeating we also both thought that a mural in school embracing diversity would complement the detracting that is going to occur at Oh Cara and we plan to choose about a hundred and ten artists to paint a 1 foot by 1 foot

self-portrait and we will be selecting students from applicants based on their artistic ability their individuality and their creative where the application we asked with the email our gmail account both your student barrel at gmail.com with a painting they created so we can judge our artistic ability and prefer a face but it's not necessary because you assume that not everyone this means a self-portrait before and here's the link to the recruitment fire it's a little smaller would have read it to them sure it says do you want to paint a self-portrait for school school mural email OPRS student at gmail.com at gmail.com from your student email with the painting you've created preferably a portrait attached for a chance to have her artwork featured and a mural that truly reflects OPRS diversity applications must be submitted by

December 20th which we're not sure about the actual date we are totally flexible to changing [Music] so the location we've chosen is the east end of this second floor South hallway it is near the driver's side room if you guys know that is and each wall is 30 by 10 feet and we're hoping that after the au pair of imagined project we can move it to the cafeteria will be more prominently displayed for materials we are hoping to receive some excess materials from the art department and whatever we cannot receive from them we are totally open to fundraising to find those art materials and also pledging our own money and we have other people who have agreed to pledge money and we were even thinking about starting GoFundMe and through the materials we would need

a cotton canvas which would be approximately 95 dollars we are looking to do a tapestry and we also needed relic paint which we also think that we could receive from art programs within the school and students who would participate in this material would likely have some of their own materials that they would like to use maybe even prefer to use for what we would supply but we would want to make sure that everybody who wants to participate can participate with materials if they don't already have them and we also are planning on having needles and bread possibly from the clothing construction IOP wrap so we could so anytime three together so we would have two murals EJB six foot by 10 foot and they would all be made a stone together one foot by one

foot pieces of campus that each of the students made with the 110 portraits there would be a 1 foot by 10 foot top banner which would say okay up to me and this is by far the fire cover because it has less than 20% wall coverage we insure that are you creating multiple murals on each wall to maximize the space and it will be to meet up in the ceiling so for our first meeting it we will discuss the project dates for specifications and distribu all the supplies to everyone and then we have two other workshops where students can work together and access the supplies they wouldn't have at home to work on it except I think the most important one would be workshop number three this would be required because all the students would

come together they need each other you create an environment where you can meet new people and they'd all work together to sew their canvases and then I'll just kind of make one great piece and I think it really reflects the mission of this whole project and then here's a timeline we understand this very strict and you're open to changing it up but this is just a general idea of how it should look okay any questions my question is I know I would call stickability how are you go to assure that you are here 110 for a number is this really representative of the school level practice we are going to talk to each of our classes and trying to increase many people as possible to attend in all of our classes so you can get

where the student population and then if we will create a rubric that will make it more efficient when we're choosing to remain unbiased and if we cannot receive a hundred and ten applicants we are open to possibly using other pieces of artwork and place of the portraits other things that represent Oh Cara an efficient if you don't get a hundred ten applicants do you have some teachers that would potentially make suggestions of students that could be involved in the project yes mr. Magadan right now and he agreed to talk to all this art students about it and then I also plan on making trips to each art classroom at our club top of it and they're also supported by this via self just make one suggestion I love agreed to become at this ministry I

would just perhaps encourage you to also reach out to me miss friends are so many the specialized environments make sure that were every day inclusive of all of our students okay independence invention I think this is such a well prepared presentation and well thought out and in terms of I had a question about the selection process so you would decide who gets to participate is that yes okay and [Music] the one suggestion and this is comes from years of thinking that people are just going to do things well fast takes time so your the application process don't be daunted if it trickles down a little bit at first so you may want to just allow yourself a little more time maybe for that part and once it gets going things a lot faster but allow

yourself that marketing you know time and talking to different people to make sure you do get the kind of representation and I'm blanking on the name of the teacher that's done rules of hysteresis to that demon and you're speaking of rock memory Raven yeah and I would suggest speaking with him I mean I've seen he's an artist and history and English I think he is one of the people I when we first met and I've been coupled hiddenness meetings with him but mr. Bennett even is someone who also did the murals and so he is supporting them and he also said he would reach out to I do it by my it's a point of the young ladies we when we talked we talked about in fact that did you say the applications may come

in slow because we're going into finals week we talked about their time on it so they have looked at the potential of going to Spring Break if anything I just wanted to and it really is wonderful and one of the things that I really love about it is that workshop three and requiring everybody to sell together because there's real beauty and everybody coming together it feels like a very community lined engagement and so thank you for that just appear to me that org is available for $10.99 if you have a URL in length I'm just encouraging you to think of ways to go beyond our community to the world another something to me that's out there and this may not be a direct response to that but I know they just got a test your

recognition you were right on and so I think there's a lot of potential on social media obviously preached to two very smart teenagers about how to push this out through those channels I think would be a great opportunity I could go to other schools potential but first we appreciate that what you want to do is have 110 and then these walls spent our to do this is there what is the board's was they wanted to presented to the board and one without they will be asking for money but we think they'll give the $95 the art department that's great really see if they will make sure that they give them with a deed they talked about the wood piece to put it all on so we think we better cover they just wanted to share

so there's no when it's done I'm hoping they'll come back and be invited to the unveiling like it seems like that another really beautiful event so to be invited by the time the new cafeteria is done they would have to Lizzie's a senior yes this is a senior ng is a junior they'll be gone I encourage them to come back when it's placed in the cafeteria and thank you truly for turning of what was traumatic and sad into something I'm totally appreciate and then learning from that so much prepared our presentation is part of a writing system into what a park is what you're doing right so we always have these conversations about Oak Park needs to be community and what's required and that and what's required at us and required of the people the

other adults and you're demonstrating that in space so thank you and we'll touch base via email then we'll get together after winter break signature powers and stuff done a fantasy world goal thank you [Music] thank you [Music] my thing is complete so the next item is the presentation of the district that boy the district they did that boy debut and you know last December administration presented to the water that information we're going to develop a framework you gotta talk about the awareness level and then implementation level and so presenting tonight mr. Greg Johnson associate superintendent was to contain senior director in technology WK Yuri could've found out also in the audience like when they put in a lot of time and energy and to what we're going to show you what's to come this is

encompasses for discussion and it is an appliance with priority to the transformative education and Hortense Hortense is all right well with that little introduction that's very left for me to say about way of introduction into the presentation I do want to stress little first things this is the product of work a lot of people and Christian Karen behind us have been fabulous collaborative countless hours they have been exceedingly patience patient with ya [Music] and leave this whatever they fill out a poop in it but everybody ain't you on something it had a lot of inputs and they see if you have work through women do any of those input at that time today yeah and we we have Kristen are popular today and we have learned a lot throughout this process we can do to

learn a lot but also in ways that are already forcing us to or encouraging us to think forward about how one seed has kind of evolved and grow and be effectively used for the community at large and the internal community in the school floor I'm going to talk a little bit when we're done we're done with kind of give an overview of where some of that learning is my Guinness for right now I just want to just remind everybody right it's only in the cover letter there's no remind everybody this really does come out of the work that we began last year's smarter our data framework and what we're seeing presented today is really the first way to kind of capture the type of data that is generally universally agreed upon in the state of

Illinois as a way to describe the overall health of our school districts simply as it relates to students and how they are performing and existing at school so I'm going to turn this over to Chris now to kind of navigate through the different elements of it as it does and will appear on our website and then we'll talk about some future direction of authorial about some questions so just take you through essentially what we're trying to do is make this as easy to navigate as possible which given the reports the various places oh we wanted to create a landing page and on your presentation this is actually linked so that you can go to the landing page so this is online and active now that landing page are three important areas you have the Illinois

School Report Card if you have the strategic dashboard and you have the interactive dashboard Illinois say report card is I was his collection of our order them they put it into or math so we wanted to have one south place where you can navigate their seat what what they have as a comparison point as you're looking at the other reports that we have so the next one that we have on that landing page is the strategic dashboard and this was a tool that was given by is B where we can put distinctive elements of our website or our district data and it take you there to show you what that looks like so on that landing page gives you a little narrative which you can find and then we have an indicators page which is

a district snapshot I'm sorry you're not seeing 69 a.m. are you yeah see if I can it's a credit gonna have a question yeah Tigers that crystal this I'm sorry I said what he could do if you have your board item and you click on the link did it take you to it when you click down to the presentation if you click on the landing page it will take you somewhere if you click along the Illinois's favorite pork or even take you and if you click on the strategic - boy he's looking at now and to take you to welcome to strategic bad boy the interactive - I was the only one that's not currently active yet as you can see on the presentation January so this so now that that in front of us

some intensity indicators here we go we can see that the district snapshot with some basic information numbers that literally plugged in there's not a data set behind this reports that are done based on the Illinois State report card we put that information into this page this also gives us a platform that we can use to give an idea of where we are for our various priorities within the strategic plan so for instance our one racial equity we have under that these are the subsections that we've identified as important so it gives you a quick synopsis of where we're at with that work with each one of those priorities I'm going to use the presentation itself yeah so it's a rather than within this it's not really broken down into things that compute into percentages so

it's a review of the work that's been done in this particular area considering kind of subjectively where we are within that work and then placing a number for that you need so this number up here 70% isn't a direct computation between these we have to do that ourselves so we figure out where we believe we are within each one of these areas and then use that to give us some sort of sense of how much of the work we've completed in each one of those areas which one of them each one of those priorities and for those listening at home Craig he's he's talking about the percentage that's in the gray circle if not a direct computation from the percentages directly to me that that are next to the blue bar graphs that's it strategies

use this the next section that I wanted to talk about is our interactive dashboard this is the one that really Karin Yuri is a great whiz at Christian has been real good at helping us kind of frame what this looks like any concepts were brought to us as to how data what we wanted to see with within a variety of areas some of those areas are all of those areas actually those areas of focus are listed on that next slide so graduation rate students on track attendance discipline student achievement through performance participation participation college career and climate data then within each one of those focus areas there are filters that can be applied so gender race ethnicity special ed status economically disadvantaged to section 504 let me show you on this next page how that

would work so for instance a graduation rate within the interactive dashboard I have what we finally call a widget up here which is a small report that gives you the statistics for that particular data set within that data set you can then filter by the above so if I wish to see female and I want to filter by special education or any of these additional filters here I can have those and the data will change now on some of those pages the way that it would that we wanted present it or which we requested us to present it is already by race so you can see on these pie charts you have a racial demographic break them already within the pie chart itself in those cases the race ethnicity filter isn't going to have an

effect though the other filters will so on January said this bait will be live and you will be able to go through each one of these sections and for yourself filter by these various demographic categories that's a bare-bones mechanics view of the dashboard as it stands there are any questions on the mechanical aspects of it before we get into some of the Dublin practical matters the last thing I'll say it's my conversations of the intended several places it's conversations that we have had with several new conversations that we have seen in CCD conversations where this was review to discuss conversations internally that we have had regarding our strategic plan that go back you know we recognize that you know even by the way this was designed this is really BEC as kind of a scattershot

of data and I don't mean just like a random scatter shot this is data that the snick generally agrees upon and schools generally use to describe their success but really is eagle up it's it's a data out there right it's not specifically aligned to our heat indicators that we are using to determine success as defined by those priorities that we've identified as most critical for our strategic plan and so one of the conversations that we are beginning to have is how we can communicate those types of top priorities within to this out to the community so it is really linked to those top priorities that we really have as an organization that's working progress those are conversations that we were having but we do know that it's absolutely critical for our 24th and critical for

a number of the mission because that we have think about the work we are doing from certain practices and about the work will be recommend a professional curriculum in a variety of other areas need to talk about those types of data points that are the true end games what success looks like for those initiatives and necessarily you know everything you see over here that speaks to so that's that's what Congress really what our key learning system present report and this is also I'm you're seeing the public side of this this tool has an internet evasive component that were actively person we can see how to leverage that best to give a dashboard that can focus in particular groups so they can use that current information to guide their purchases in there implementation of their programs

as well [Music] and your horse I wasn't right yeah this is correct yeah so I appreciate you describing it that I would serve with this would it be like what we were sure that outcomes feed to this new event and if you will bill that lady at port area Bobby I didn't know exactly what it's going to look like there are talks about communications within the dashboard like if we go back to if you want to scroll back to the graduation page really it just as an example hello very innovative just hello Craig you can't see this but I think is a sentence less slide there was potentially baby within here it's illustrate that or it is something that we can build into the other dish where it might be the right platform for it

we are really sure but the idea that if if you're looking at data about our organization we need to help anybody contextualize that according to the key initiatives that we care about most as an organization so whether it's specifically within the interactive dashboard or a crow or maybe on the landing page itself we haven't really set up the kind of Canadian format for it we just know that it's a it's a priority at this point but look for more information that forward logical place moving on the equipment sense where we have specific strategies or the strategic plan and and suspect in developing maybe a link that takes us into the data points they've shown yet Decker page is really designed to be somebody that speaks about those those strategies one of the challenges that we

have with me dr. page which we're looking to finally as a navigator is that it's not incredibly programmable and I need somebody with Chris's expertise or a pedo on Christians yet expertise but it really is not been an incredibly programmable page as we heavily manipulated in great detail but yeah that would be the ideal place for because that's we're really talking about those strategies and kind of our effort in progress or June and when we talk that maybe the public facing side and then on the internal facing side with the interactive piece we can build tonight landing point but we could probably build something internally that will help us to do that and then what what is one of the public facing is begin system so I I echo the need for those key outcome

indicators to be the front and center and with those not just the data but what the target is so you can see where we are and where we're trying to get to or whether we've achieved it so that's point one point two is that I think through the school report you know having some context you know so four key outcome data we can say our goal is X and we know where we're at and that tells you you know where we are for other data there's potentially comparison you know how do we compare and so what is going to be done with that I think the school report card you can get into other districts and and do that but that's a need you know if if the answer is we want to be able

actually want to be better than something else so that's that would be my second kind and then the third is that there has been worked on on the finance side to kind of nurture along some financial metrics that have comparisons to other districts at separate cetera the tip of them we're going to hear about what is the plan to bring them or is that a separate thing that's what the landing and also possibly incorrect Krishnan was actually looking at that we have a report from from the business office and we're looking to integrate into this something to disable as well thank you believe me would it be possible to so there's some redundancy but the comments and questions that have come from CCP to bring those forward to the full board so there's the ability

to see that the discussions that have gone on there which include comments from staff students and community members as well I think that they help try the conversation because that's what's employed something that they've been to see here and into the outcomes piece so it's tricky and we're not ready to have that as a part of the I interactive or the forward-facing for the purposes of the board I think for CCP as well but having those outcomes as part of our conversations because we talk about them and it has been barely a fairly general conversation and I think the more we can start to have an idea of what exactly we're talking about some we're all talking the same language would be helpful so a list or you know powder we're looking at if I

go inside those different priorities but to be able to start to think about and they would inform the process too any other questions on that [Music] great do you have any other questions Tod's yeah okay thank you [Music]
