Mr. Mayo, good morning everyone. Good morning. Can I take Ms. Jessup on the road with me? Good morning everyone. And now correct me if I'm wrong Mr. Mayo, after this presentation, do the promotees are they get to go home? Yes. So if you look on your program, they have me scheduled for 10 minutes. I do not talk for 10 minutes. So I'm going to get you all home early. Is that okay young people? I mean you all got to talk to me. Now there's a few things I want to do before we get started, okay? And then I'm going to take about 5 minutes and I'm going to be out of you all's way and we're going to celebrate you all. But I want you all young people to help me celebrate a few people.

First of all, I want Mr. Mayo and his entire staff to please stand. Mr. Mayo, your entire staff, please stand. The entire If you were you work here Bonner. >> [applause] [applause] >> Keep standing. All of you young people, all of you young people, all you graduates, please stand with me. Stand. Look around. Let's give them a big hand. >> [cheering] >> Now what I want you young people to do, I want you young people to look at Mr. Mayo and look at the staff here at Bonner and I want you to give them a big hand and say thank you. >> [applause] >> Thank you all. Young people, I need you to stay standing. Don't sit down. Stay standing. I told you we're only going to be here for about 5 minutes. I want

you to help me celebrate one of I say one of the greatest superintendents in the state of Virginia, Dr. Angela Hairston. Will you all help me celebrate her? >> [applause] >> Dr. Hairston said her goal was to sit back in the back and relax today. Gives me I also young people want you to help me celebrate our chair of our school board, Mr. Tajuan Graves. >> [applause] [cheering] >> Our vice chair, Ms. Casey Cunningham. >> [applause] >> Our school board member, Ms. Keisha Walker. >> [applause] >> Do them all the ones I'm introducing some of what you and Terrell Payne. >> [applause] >> I brought some backup with me from city council. I brought my cousin and city councilman Barry Mayo with me. Give Barry here. >> [applause] >> Now young people, you may have

a seat but we going to be engaged. Let's give these young people another big hand. >> [applause] >> Now it's my time to salute each of you and your families. Will all of the families of these wonderful young people, whether you're family member, your cousin, an auntie, an uncle, a guardian, please stand because we want to celebrate you. All of the family members, please stand. Young people, stand up and celebrate your family. Young people, stand up and celebrate your family with us. Celebrate them. >> [applause] [applause] >> You all may have your seat. Now if you have your watches on, it's 9:15. And I promise you all I will only be I was that was 6 minutes. I only have 5 minutes left and I'm going to get you. So uh hit your watches right

now because here we're ready to go. Here is a theme of um It's something that's been amazing to me when Dr. Harrison and Mr. Mayo invited me to speak. Terrell Payne will tell you, I don't do this anymore. And the reason I don't do this anymore is because I like to sit out there and I like to learn. We have a motto in the group that I travel in is we don't give advice, we make suggestions. So I like to sit out there and um just listen to everyone and so have suggestions. So, here's my theme for the day. I was sitting when Mr. Mayo reached out to me and I was thinking about what can I say to you young people that can relate to you all because we go to so many commencement

ceremonies and I'll be honest with you, I get quite bored. So, I said, let me let me try to relate to you all. So, here's my theme. My theme to you all is You ready? Are y'all ready? My theme to you all is where them fans at? >> [music] >> I saw you. I saw you. >> [laughter] >> Boots on the ground. Where those fans at? How many of you all heard that song? Come on parents, you heard it. I saw some of you all moving and grooving. And as I was thinking about that song, Dr. Hairston, one part of that song, Barry, it it just amazed me um about that song. The dance beat has become one of the most popular tunes everywhere. It really made me think of each of these young people

today. I listened to the song more carefully because Casey can do this dance. She's going to do it and I can't do it. So, I listened to the song more carefully and it reminded me I said it earlier, I need each of you young people, once again, I need each of you all because I'm almost done. I need each of you all to talk back to me because what I got out of this song completely amazed me. The song says, where them fans at? And all of the teachers in here is probably saying that is not the correct grammar, but we going to use it for what the song says. Young people, I need you to stand up one more time. And I want you to keep standing and when every time this song you

hear this song and this song says, where them fans at? I want you to point to yourself and say, "Here we are." All right. >> [music] >> Here we are. I want you to say, "Here we are." Where them fans at? Point to yourself. Y'all got to get more excited than that. Where them fans at? Now, you may have your seat. Now, here's the definition of fans and I'm almost out of your way. The definition, so you'll know, the definition of fans, and since we're in school, is to spread, to be enthusiastic, a devotee, or an admirer. And the reason I said them every time you hear that, "Where them fans at?" I want you to point to yourself, because that's who you are. You are enthusiastic. You are an admirer. And you got here

through hard work. Now, let me give you, since we're in school, the synonyms of fans. The synonyms of fans is the verb part of it is stretched, or extend, or expand, or open up once again, spread. That's the word again for you young people, to spread. Let's look at the nouns of where those fans at. The nouns of it is very simple. It's admirer, fanatic, enthusiastic. Where those fans at? Where those fans at? You got your boots on the ground. I got 1 minute left, and I want to say to you young people, and this is the last time I'm going to ask you to stand up. But, I want you to stand up. I promise you, this is the last time. Stand up one more time. And I want you to look around. Just

take your time, relax. I want you to look around. And I want you to thank and look wave at all of your family members. And I want you all to know that we are Wait, there you go. Wave. Wave at them. Wave at them. Wave, keep on waving like you're in the parade. Pretend like this is the damn old JC parade. Wave at them. And we want to tell you all young people, as I close, keep standing. As I close, first of all to Mr. Mayor and his entire staff and his entire team, thank you so much for inviting me to be here with these amazing young people here today. When Dr. Harrison leaned over to me, she said, "Wow, look at the parents." Young people, please please know that we are so proud of

you. We are so proud of you. Your parents are proud of you. Your family's proud of you. Your friends are in these teachers here at Bonner so proud of you. As the mayor of this city and Councilman Mayo and the school board members, you all have made it. You all look wonderful. You're very smart. You're very intelligent. And we want you to take this zeal with you everywhere you go. Where those fans at? Where those fans at? I can't hear you. Where those fans at? Congratulations to each of you all and thank you all so much for inviting me to hear that. You may have your seat. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MAYOR JONES, FOR THAT inspiring and energetic uh speech. My name is Lori Daniel. I am the eighth-grade assistant principal and I am so
