Okay, I think it's time to get started with tonight's agenda. Thanks. >> Uh, >> board of education has been in closed executive session to conduct an employee discipline hearing, discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body pending litigation, and collective negotiating matters between the board and representatives of its employees. No action was taken during the closed executive session. I'd now ask everyone to join me in the pledge of allegiance. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Do we have a recommendation for tonight's agenda? >> Yes, we do. I recommend a board approve tonight's June 9th, 2026 open session board meeting agenda as

presented. >> Can I have a motion? >> So move. Second. >> Any discussion? All in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Those opposed. Motion's carried. We will now move on to our public participation. Uh the board of education would like to note the following. During public at during our public participation period, identify oneself and be brief. Comment should be limited to three minutes. Any public comments submitted to the board secretary will be included in the record. Please note that during any board of education meeting and public participation, board members do not respond and/or comment to public comments. All comments are referred to administration. Furthermore, the board refrains from referring to specific students or staff members by name and requests that public commenters refrain from doing so as well. The request that you omit

names is made to protect you from allegations of liable or slander or from violations of the Illinois School Student Records Act. It is not intended to shield an employee from criticism. Miss Bradford, do we have anyone wishing to address the board tonight? >> There's a first name only Bri. I just start. >> Hold the mic down. There you go. >> Yep. And you have three minutes. >> Good evening. My name is Brianna Benedict and I am an incoming junior at Eisenhower High School. I am a secondyear member of the Eisenhower softball team as well as a captain. I have been playing softball since four years old and the sport has become a major part of my life. I am here today regarding my concern for my EHS head coach, David Mattingley. Coach Mattingley is being

forced to resign or be terminated. As someone who has played under Coach Mattingly since sixth grade, I can confidently say that he has been a tremendous positive impact on both me and many, many other players in our program. Coach Mattingley has coached from pee-wee all the way to high school for many years. He currently coaches middle school in our district as well. He knows the game, has love for the sport and the players, and is your perfect ideal coach. He is one of the most dedicated, knowledgeable, and committed coaches I have ever had. He invests countless hours into developing players, building bonds, practicing the game, and growing the sport in our community. Coaching from pee-wee to high school ball creates a pathway that encourages young girls to continue playing softball and eventually join our EHS

softball team. Many and most of the girls currently involved in softball programs are there because of coach Mattingley's efforts. One of the reasons or concerns for this forced option is the number of players in our Eisenhower softball program. However, it is important to recognize that participation numbers across many sports including softball dropped significantly significantly following CO 19 as he started coaching before 2019. Despite that significant drop, coach Mattingley has continued recruiting players and developing them. In fact, currently he has around eight players from middle school in recall that will be upcoming freshmen who plan to join the Eisenhower softball program next season. many who also experience have experience and talent. Coach Mattingley is the reason that we continue to have enough girls for our sport. Another concern has been our team's winning losing record. While

every team an individual athlete wants to win, a team's record does not fully reflect a coach's dedication, effort, or effectiveness. Coach Mattingley consistently teaches fundamentals, sportsmanship, discipline, and heavy softball IQ. He prepares us to compete to the best of our abilities and supports us both off and on the field. Coach Mattingley has done everything for us girls for many seasons and even more so these past two have been our assistant coach greatly lacked skill and knowledge of the game as well as having very low attendance. Many current players and incoming freshman strongly support him and believe he is the right person to lead this program. If he is removed, many players, including myself, will seriously reconsider our future with Eisenhower softball. I respectfully ask the board to carefully reconsider coach Mattingley's position before making a

final decision. Thank you. >> Thank you again. First name only. Tiarara, you know this guy. >> Hello. Good evening. I am writing to express my concern for Coach Madden and to explain why I believe he should remain the softball coach at Eisenhower High School. Excuse me. Coach Mini has been my only softball coach since I first started playing in the summer before seventh grade. Throughout all those years, he has shown an incredible amount of dedication, care, and passion for the game of softball and for every player he coaches. He is not only an amazing coach, but also an amazing person. One of the things that makes coach Mattingly special is how much he genuinely cares about his players. He supports us not only on the softball field, but also in our everyday lives. He encourages

us, checks on us, and always wants what is best for us. He has helped many of us grow as athletes and as people. Coach Magin goes above and beyond what is expected of a coach. During the summer, he takes the team on trips and creates opportunities for us to bond and make memories that will last a lifetime. He often takes us out to eat and generously pays for everyone, even when players offer to pay for themselves. His kindness and generosity shows just how much he values and cares for his team. I have had the privilege of having him as both my summer ball coach and school ball coach. Because of this, I have shown the I have seen the firsthand of countless hours he puts into our program. His love for softball is clear, but

his love for his players is even greater. He may not re realize it, but we appreciate and care about him far more than he knows. Next year will be my senior year and is very important to me. He is my coach. Coach Maline has been a major part of my softball journey from the beginning. The thought of finishing my final season without the coach who has guided and supported me throughout these years is heartbreaking. I also have concerns about the future of our softball program if coach Mattingley is no longer the head coach. In my experience, the assistant coach has not been as involved with the team and is often absent from practice, games, and team activities. Because of this, many players have relied on coach Mattley for instruction, guidance, and leadership. His his knowledge

of the game ability to teach skills and commit to developing players has been essential to our su our success. Coach Maddingley has been positive positively impacted so many players and families. He has built relationships, created lasting memories, and helped make our program what it is today. Coaches like him are hard to find, and I truly believe he deserves the opportunity to continue coaching and making a difference in our lives of student athletes. Thank you for taking the time to consider my thoughts and support coach David Mattingley, aka Coach Poppy the Goat. Sincerely, Tiarara Dyer. >> Thank you again. First name only, Michaela. Good after Good afternoon. I am Michaela Luthy Herner, an upcoming junior at EHS and a second year player of EHS softball team. I'm bringing this up in regards of David Mattingley, who

is my head coach at Eisenhower High School. I just want to start off with telling you that coach Maddingley is an amazing and talented coach. I have played for his school ball teams and wreck ball teams since my sixth grade year of middle school. He is one of the only coaches I have ever had to care about my mental health, physical health, and my own home life. Coach Mattingley is very dedicated to us. I'm so sorry. >> It's okay. Take your time. Is very dedicated to us girls by teaching, showing up, believing, and fighting for us to play softball every year. Our coach has showed up more than any other coach that has ever been put on our field after games. We all go to eat and talk about what we could have done better.

And as I have played underneath him for years, every time a mistake was made or an error has happened, not once has he ever looked down on one of us girls. He has always taught us to let it roll off our back, have a new mindset, and think about the next play. I personally do not believe it is fair for him to be forced to resign or for his position to be terminated as a head coach. I have also heard that there is concern about our wins and losses. The winning and losing streaks of our team does not reflect on to him as a team. It reflects on to us girls because we are the ones playing and the ones that can change the ball game. I truly do not want to have a different

coach for our softball. And I have talked to countless other girls and as a team we have all come to the conclusion that none of us want to have a different softball coach. I really do hope that you guys rethink your decisions about this entire situation because it will affect us girls and our happiness through our high school years of playing softball. Sincerely, Michaela. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Again, first name only, Mariah. Hello, my name is Mariah Berglin and I just graduated from Eisenhower High School as well as Richland Community College. I have been playing softball since I was four years old and throughout those years, you can imagine coaches come and go. Over those years, not not one of my coaches could ever compare to coach David Maddingley. His heart is truly

in it. He loves the game. He loves the players. and he wants truly the best for each and every single one of his players. During my time at Eisenhower, I served as the captain of the Eisenhower softball team all four years of high school. Over those four years, not only have I watched Coach Mattingley build a team, but also a family. Not only did I serve him as a captain and a player, but also an assistant coach. While coaching beside Coach Mattingley, there is no doubt that he truly enjoys the game and puts unimaginable effort into into every player. I am very disappointed in the treatment of our softball program as well as the treatment of our beloved coach. David has dedicated his whole life to softball whether not whether that be coaching players, recruiting

players, or just keeping our program alive. In fact, many of our players have joined softball because of his impact. I know there have been concerns with our record and our participation in numbers, but this problem does not only apply to the softball program. Our softball program definitely isn't the best out there, but there isn't another one like it. We should not be focused on our record and instead the environment coach Mattingley has created for these girls. Without David, I don't think Eisenhower would have a softball team at all. An athletic director should be someone who advocates for their coaches instead of shutting them down. Not someone who has forgotten to schedule buses before, scheduled wrong bus times, and has failed to rely important information to coaching staff and has failed to show support to the

Eisenhower softball team. Thank you. >> First name only, Alexi. >> Last one, Alandra. >> Good evening. My name is Alandre Malaga. I am here to support Coach Mattingley. I'm entering my junior year at Eisenhower High School and have known Coach Mattingley since seventh grade. I have had the pleasure to have had him all my years of playing softball. He welcomed me with open arms even though I was new and has always supported me. Coach has made a huge positive impact on our team, not just as a softball coach, but as a mentor, a role model. He treats every every player like we're his own daughters and genuinely cares about us as people, not just athletes. He's always had he's always fair when making decisions and gives everyone an equal chance to improve and contribute to

the team. Personally, there were times when I was struggling with my mental health and coach was someone I could count on for support and encouragement. He created an environment where I felt safe and valued and motivated to keep going. I know I'm not the only player who feels this way. Coach has helped build our confidence, teamwork, and character both on and off the field. He supports us through our successes and our mistakes, teaching us important life lessons alongside the game. His kindness, fairness, and dedication have had a lasting positive impact on our team. And losing him would mean losing someone who has made a real difference in the lives of many players. I'll hope I hope you'll reconsider not only his record as a coach, but also the positive influence he has had on the

students he works with every day. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to voice our opinion on the subject, and thank you for your time. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Uh thank you, the board of education. Thanks each and every one of you for your thoughts and comments tonight. Uh we truly appreciate the input. Uh we'll move on to board discussion. Is there are there any items that the board would like to bring forward at this point in time? >> Um just one clarific clarification question and the second uh and then something about before and afterare but the first is uh for schedule B employees uh those will come through personal action items and those are decisions made at the building level or >> at the building level and it's based on uh contract language.

>> Okay. And then the second one is uh is there a status to the facilities use agreement with champions? >> Uh actually we sent a final uh red line to them today and we're hoping to have an answer by the end of the week. >> Okay. Any other comments? Okay. Seeing none, uh we'll move on to our consent items. Does anyone want any item pulled from the consent agenda? Do we have a recommendation for the consent agenda? >> I recommend the board of education approve the consent items as presented which includes A. Minutes open close meetings May 26, 2026.
