Board discussion. >> Um, >> any comments from board tonight? >> Yes. Uh, firstly, let's acknowledge that uh, expulsions are hard on everyone and I appreciate my fellow board members and all of our staff that get us through these. But to follow up, uh, I had mentioned last week at our Tuesday regular Tuesday meeting that we're going to talk about calendar tonight. I know that's hard to do after these expulsions, but I feel that we owe it to this community to communicate where roadmap is headed uh where we are with superintendent search and um all the things that we need to do. So I guess the four major things and you'll see them laid out in this calendar one uh one did not uh not get laid out. Uh the first is roadmap and if you

saw on the calendar that went out that would start now with preparation activities and then uh start up again in the community in January February. Um if you as we've all know the second thing would be the superintendent search as we all uh were alerted that um that has extended into January. So at that same time frame that we will be firing up roadmap if that's what all seven of us want to do. would also be doing the superintendent search. Before we get to the superintendent search, this board needs to write a superintendent evaluation tool because it's not something that we currently have. That's going to be required. Uh Luke, is that by by law or is that by policy? >> It's a little bit little bit of both. Multi-year contract, you're required to evaluate

uh based on terms that are set forth in the contract. It's also covered in your policy. Um, and then lastly is to finish this legal services piece, which I will acknowledge that I'm the outstanding piece because apparently my email didn't send. I'll get that uh get that to you this evening, Bill. But the the first the first one, the major one is when does this board want to restart road map and we've had this calendar for like six weeks now. So I would expect that we come to some sort of consensus tonight. >> I'm not running this. >> I can go on the record. I I sent an email to madam superintendent and her staff to um at our next board meeting in December um let us know who's going to be on the roadmap

team. Um my hope is that we'll we'll get those names and we'll understand who those people are. I would be more than excited to say that I I think we need to discuss starting in January um getting people sat down and start at least re-engaging, reming, talking about old policies and stuff because it's going to I believe it's going to take a while. So, if we made it an agenda item to vote to start it in January, I that would be my motion, but I'll listen to everybody else. a second. >> And I guess this isn't necessarily vote. We're just seeking consensus because it's not >> my consensus would be to start it in June. >> Um I I guess the question for this whole board is is everybody ready to do extra meetings? I

mean because that's what it's going to be between uh superintendent uh superintendent uh interviews, extra meetings for roadmap depending on who goes on this committee and then all the other pieces. I mean, can I get a commitment from everybody up here that >> we don't have a choice. We can't keep kicking the can down the road. So, let's get it. >> I'm with Yeah, I'm with I'm with my esteemed colleague, Mr. Joiner. I >> Yeah, that's why I signed up. So, >> yeah, we need to get it done. >> And we have we have to do it. >> And one of the things that I can commit to is working on the superintendent evaluation tool. Um, I think that that is somewhat in my wheelhouse since I work on teacher evaluation quite a bit and

I'm very familiar with things like the Danielson framework and that type of thing. So I think that amongst all of us I think that that's something that I'm quite familiar with. Um, if anyone would like to join me on that. Um, I would be more than willing to. school boards association also has >> yes they do information out there >> and I think did some work on that previous board >> Jason and I >> yeah Mr. Cleger there's some there are some wonderful tools >> yes I do realize that okay >> yeah so I'm I'm planning on definitely utilizing all of those as well as talking with people at the conference and >> seeing what we can do >> I think time is of the essence >> yeah absolutely kick the can down the road

I think was an appropriate comment. We've got to get moving and sooner than later. So January 1 probably wouldn't be soon enough for me, but I can live with January 1. >> That's something administration can do to me. And I just also remind you there will be a series of per ISB and me being uh formally uh doing this as well. There will be several forums that you will also have with the superintendent search. So it's not just the interviews, there are other meetings that you're going to also have as well. Right. >> Oh, >> mind you, >> you didn't get so much over. >> I mean, he's already now >> to answer your question. Um, what I really need is um so when we send out the invitations, we have um where the meetings

are going to be, the time of the meetings, and the dates. And so in order for me to have dates, I need to know like >> with everything that you have going on, January the 13th is your first board meeting in January. So are you saying by January the 13th you will be ready to move forward or are you saying you're still going to be working on things dealing with the superintendent? Because I'm trying to be respectful of that piece. So I in order for me to tell you what we can do, I need to know your dates. >> I I guess when do we want to have road map done by? I mean, >> well, you have a better assessment of that. How long is it going to take? >> I mean, we went

the plan >> I would have started yesterday, but >> uh the initial plan was tw uh we met twice a month. once in person for four hours, once uh by Zoom for two hours, and we did that for six months, well up until March, and we would have carried that to April. And so we still have to kind of reconstitute that committee. And in that calendar, you saw that there's a much more aggressive schedule uh to getting this done. That puts it in somewhere a four-month range. So if if I mean, realistically, maybe June 1. So if we started January 13th, >> January 13th, I maybe middle of May. I mean, because we still I we we have to not only and I'll own this one because I was one of the people that helped

make the decision to uh postpone this knowing that the first thing we're going to have to do is rebuild trust and the second thing is we're going to actually have to get the work done. And so uh that's that's the hardest one, putting it out there when we want we want to I mean be done and work backwards. I mean, as a project manager in my business life, uh my job, you know, you you pick the point where you want to end and then work backwards from there and say, is this doable? So, >> to help the superintendent, if we're getting consensus, Mr. President, I would say we're we're rolling January 13th roadmap is going. >> I think we're going to be doing both things simultaneously. >> That's exactly right. So, shouldn't we pick who

going to be on it and then that makes more sense of who >> I think we're all just all hands on deck >> far as board members. >> We're going to do what >> what needs to be done to get it >> get everything moving at the same time. I don't think we have a choice. >> No, I agree. >> Can you ask your question again? >> I said soon we pick which board members going to be on it that would give us a more perspective of >> that's what we're getting. That's why I'm asking. I will be meeting with the team to do just that. But I need to go back to your original question. Will so in order for the board because what happens in this strategic plan, we put it all together,

we make recommendations, but we also want community input, right? >> So if you remember the last time you guys did a full strategic plan before we did the recommendation to the board, we said, "Hey community, this is what we have. We want you to come and look at this and tell us your first one, two, threes." Right? Mhm. >> So, in order for us to do that and be ready by June, which is June 9th, we need to make sure that the community will have input May um before May 12th or either before May 26th, which means that we need to be done by April, which means we have February, March, April, and part of January. That's all we have. Is Jay Mareno still going to be in town? Do you know? >> I have

no idea. I think he's on contract until June 30, right? >> Yeah. >> So, we don't I don't have a problem with getting it started and be able to give something to you like these dates and all of this by that first meeting in January. I just need to make sure you guys understand your commitment. That's it. That's all I'm asking. I am I have no problem being committed to the dates, whatever dates we need. I'm I'm available because I'm I'm really basically retired and there's no golf during the winter. Madam Superintendent, I'm all in. Whatever you >> The only thing that I ask then if something happens to where what we're doing is bumping up against what you're doing, I need to know right away. So like if I have a community meeting or

if I'm having a meeting uh pertaining to the strategic plan but then you have to do anything with the superintendent search like I have to know right away because we cannot have a glitch in once we start this process. That's all I ask. >> Well, you're going to well you're going to work with Karen on the evaluation. If not I will. >> Okay. Um I my wife's pregnant and we're she's having a baby on December 8th. So yeah, you can do that. Absolutely. >> Okay. So >> let me know when you need to get together and >> I'm there. >> And madam superintendent, I'm more than more than willing to throw my name into the road map. >> I'm going to need everybody just so you know. >> Okay. >> Is we have a lot

of work that we have to get done in a short period of time. >> Yeah. We we've been discussing strategically how to do this. So, you'll know very soon. >> Okay. Anybody else? Anything else? >> So, we're good with this calendar. >> Mhm. >> Oh, yeah. Okay. So, uh let's let's just reiterate, bring it all back together. So, we're starting January and ending by >> June. Okay. For roadmap, uh we have hopefully more candidates, right? Bill, coming by January, >> hopefully. >> Okay. And then so like in that January, February, March time frame is when we would do is it three months? I can't remember. Three months. So that would be superintendent search. So before the December meeting, we would have to have in order to make this happen like the December meeting. By the

December meetings, when we would at least need a draft of that uh superintendent tool, right? I mean, just to line everything up. that I'm as poking around here as all of you >> superintendent >> evaluation by like December >> because we need that before we contract right >> generally they do want to see that >> Karen you I'm talking about the tool >> comfortable with that date >> the actual assessment device we're going to use >> short answer is yes okay >> but it's it's not a hard and fast so I mean ideally if if I'm applying I would like to see a general contract as well as the evaluation tool So is it is it a hard you must probably not. Would it be a very good idea? Probably. >> I mean is that

doable? >> Which date? >> December 16th. Our next board meeting. >> Excuse me. Well, can you repeat December 16th? You were like what again? >> I wouldn't like anything. I'm trying to make sure that we're aligned. This is what I do with my job all days. >> Okay. This is not for approval. This is just like a draft or something. I I have no idea. >> The Yeah. So, a draft at least of the super superintendent evaluation tool. >> Okay. >> All I know is I'm getting hammered by the community and they want dates and so that I'm responding to the community the best I can. >> Anything else? >> Okay. I think the dates that uh no school November 24th uh turkey tournament 25th 26 28 29 Veterans Day holiday the 26th Thanksgiving holiday

the 27th and the 28th next regular scheduled meeting will be Tuesday December 16th at the Kyle building. I have a motion for adjournment. So move >> second >> discussion. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> Discussion. >> Those opposed. >> Happy Thanksgiving everybody. Cold.
