00122 District 104 to order may I have a roll call Figaroa here Goodridge yes hay here kovak present Lewis here rinsky yes Rego we have a core please join me in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which he stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all Sam please read our ven Mission belief and B and way statements absolutely Penton mission statement cultivate successful passionate empowered Learners through rigor relevance and relationships Fenton belief statement successful passionate empowered Learners Thrive when we we provide a safe caring and welcoming environment diversity equity and inclusion unify our community school and home collaborate is one we Champion Innovative teaching and engaged learning with state-of-the-art facilities we Infuse social emotional learning
002into academics and culture we prepare students to fulfill their civic responsibility we immerse students in authentic life experiences the Bison way students and adults at Fen High School create a safe caring empathetic environment where we believe in each other respect diversity communicate openly grow together and hold each other to high expectations to become the leaders and innovators of the future next item is recognitions Kate all right so we always have a few Sports that go into the summer um and last month our starting catcher on the Bison fast Fitch team received all state recognition so I'd like to call up Elizabeth Delgado and Coach Dave [Applause] Melo you can stand right here all right so this is actually the 16th consecutive year that one or more Fenton softball players has been awarded All State honors
003so that's really exciting uh the Illinois softball coaches association selected Elizabeth for their All State third team for the catcher position Elizabeth is a two- sport athlete who has held a starting position on the softball team all three years she's credited with being a great influence on her teammates especially the younger students she works tirelessly in practice and away from school to learn and grow her skills which has led coach Melo to say that that she plays with a passion that not many other athletes have as a rising senior we're really lucky to have Elizabeth back for one more year so that's great news for us and now I'm going to introduce coach Melo to share more about this remarkable student athlete thank you yeah I'm going to try to not use the microphone if
004that's okay um first of all thank you to the board and the administration for uh recognizing Elizabeth or Izzy as she's no one to us out there on the softball field um really appreciate all that you guys do for Fenton and for Fenton Athletics um as she said izzy this year was recognized as a catcher unfortunately the season started out with her in center field but due to an injury to our starting catcher we had to move Izzy from center field to catcher so technically she earned this by playing the position that she wasn't intended to play at the beginning of the season um which makes it even better um and as was mentioned when you're out at a game or you see her out on the field there's very few that play with the
005fire and passion I mean if she does something good gets a nice key hit she's always there to fire up her teammates um and we did have a lot of younger girls on the team this year and they all looked up to Izzy um because of how she played and how she practiced and how she performed all the time um I had to write down here the norm nor I don't have to write anything down but the categories that she led us in this year uh she played in all 37 of our games was the only one that did that she let us in at bat in batting average in slugging in Ops which is just on base plus slugging let us in hits let us in triples tied for the lead in home runs
006let us in runs batted in and runs scored so Not only was she driving people in when she got on she was also scoring herself um she also had the fewest strikeouts on the team amongst the regulars in the field she had the most putouts and as we mentioned she was Far and Away the fiery leader in The Dugout and on the field so all of those um is what led us to a regional final appearance where we came up just short two Z but I I know there's no one on the team that will make sure we're going to win that Regional next year more than Iz he so again this is Izzy right here if you have anything to say oh no now come on just something simple something simple come on say
007thank you and she is one of our captains for next season as well so you're she's going to have to speak well um I would like to thank thank my teammates and my coaches both my travel and Coach Melo for the softball player I have become today um I feel like whenever I'm on that field I always look at coach Melo to guide me through the way and guide me through success he's always in a positive manner and if he's not I know he's not trying to be like mean to me but he's trying to be hard on me and like push me to go further cuz he knows I can and I want to thank my family for always supporting me buying me the stuff I need to be successful in softball buying me
008the lessons I need and [Applause] yeah slugging so that's like doubles triples home runs so you add all those together and then divide it by the number ofs so oh wow the more extra [Applause] words you go the back up a little bit we got hold the chair the light off your forehead guys okay okay oh sorry you and I are about the same time get CL you can get you guys can come on closer to the middle yeah I was to say short okay everyone ready we'll look at me first and then we'll go to Karen one two three one more for wait one more he's stretching awesome thank [Applause] you conratulations exactly it's in Disguise exact appreciate congratulations beautiful thank you so [Applause] much [Music] thanks Kon do we have any public comments
009no we do not session tonight next is informational items Sam yes okay so we're going to start out uh Kate with our summer school update all right so we're going to give you an update on summer school session one summer school session 2 ends tomorrow so I'll give you an update on summer school session two at the next meeting but our session one uh ran through the first four weeks of June this year we had 195 students who earned 2 55 credits um so you can see last year our semester 1 enrollment was 291 students normally we'd like to see enrollment go up but summer school we actually like to see it go down because that means fewer kids need to be at summer school so that's actually a huge victory for us we're really
010excited about that um but we had robust programming we had what we did this year is we focused on in-person instruction in that first semester to capture most of our kids and make sure that they had um you know teachers in front of them going through the material um a lot of schools tend to do online and that's what we focus on second semester and that's okay for some things but for some you know English and math we really wanted to make sure they had that instruction so we had foundations of math math 1 and math 2 English one and English 3 and then consumer Ed and drivers ed are kind of get ahead courses for kids um we did have some credit recovery running and then we also ran a nth grade math and
011literacy Camp so we had about 15 to 20 incoming um freshmen that participated in that um and so we did a lot of just getting them ACC made it to the school building some some skills and just getting them ready to go so um huge success we're really happy for that and uh we're looking forward I'm looking forward to updating you on semester 2 where we had about 65 students that were here for credit recovery so consumer ad is that to how to spend money better or what is that's it's a it's a requirement so some of it is how to spend money better check you know things like that but yeah it's a very practical course but it is a requirement so some kids like to just knock that one off during the so
012they take in the summer and then they can have more flexib their I guess the question is what what is consumer inform like what is what do we do in that class yeah I mean a lot of it is like how to balance a checkbook a lot of it is um they do things like if you're going to buy a house what does it look like to apply for a mortgage and things like that so they have different units that they've put together and our teachers have done a nice job of you know changing it over time there are state requirements but they want to make sure that it's up to date for what kids are interested and need to know so there's no more people complaining about I know what a moch condre is
013but I don't know how to B my checkbook yeah that's one of the ways that we try to yep yep absolutely okay and this our our next we got our AP test scores in so AP tests happen in the first two weeks of May um and then our test scores come in the first two weeks of July so we have some exciting Trends so here you can see Trends um The Five-Year pattern so it's I'll explain to you that at the that top row we're talking about total AP students right so you can see that we we've had some interest patterns and this is not unique to fent it's because of Co and online learning um but we've seen you know kind of we had a surge in 2022 right after online learning I think
014kids were really excited to be back in school then we saw a little bit of a dip in 2023 but we're excited that we had 235 kids taking AP tests this year um and we had 41 exams taken this year but the most exciting news of that is that our total number of students that had scores of three and higher so AP uh tests are scored 1 through five five being the highest in the state of Illinois if you get a three four or five on an AP exam you will get college credit at an Illinois State University um and so we had 64 almost 65% of our students in 2024 that got threes or higher so you can see that we are trending up in that direction so that's really great and we're excited
015about it um if you go to the next one this chart just shows that Trend in in a bar graph we did have 19 fives that were earned on the AP exams that's up from last year which was 17 fives um we had so this year we had 177 students that got 19 fives so two kids got two fives which is great um and those are the courses where we did where students did earn the fives I do want to point out that world history modern they had seven kids get a five so that's that's great and those are our sophomores taking that that's for most of them their first AP class so that's really exciting to see um that they had such success there so we're happy with those we're going to continue to
016work on you know having those Trends increase so Kate what's the uh what's like the fractional breakdown of kids in AP courses are we seeing a like a trend going down with our with our folks coming in the door or um we just see that kind of dip and now it's kind of resurging again yeah I would yeah you know like I said as far as percentage of the student body you're saying right like you know across the different years right yeah I I so what we saw was definitely during Co it went down right and then like I said after Co it seemed like I think a lot of kids really pushed themselves maybe a little bit too hard right um and took a lot of AP classes and so it did kind of
017dip back but I think we are trying to do our best to make sure that we are pushing students who are ready to be pushed in there and making sure that they're supported and a lot of times kids are ready to be pushed before they think they are and so we try to do that so we're trying to get that number to go up um but making sure that we have the supports in the place for teachers and students that they'll see success and another number through through the US students and World Report they highlighted that 43% of our students have taken an AP course we'd like that to continue to go up but you know if we could get half of our kids to at least give it a try I think it's it's
018uh it's good yeah yeah my question really came down to how if we're still dealing with the kind of carry-on effect of our middle schoolers coming up um you know kind of having that struggle in the math and the Sciences area um we were kind of talking about last year and things just didn't know if we're seeing like you know as our this next senior year graduate and then the year after that graduates we're going to see a step down again in in the population or if we're starting to kind of see freshman coming in or folks really starting to kind of gear back up again so overall I mean as far as our freshman placement this year um and what we saw with our freshman performing this year it seems that we're on the
019upswing so we're happy we're happy about that so we're going to you know the forecast is optimistic I would hope cool so not as big of issue or concern with the Carry On from stuff so we're hoping yep fantastic thank you it's good to see the uh percentage of kids with three plus yeah go up to to that's good point to that range that's regardless of the number that percentages would be a great thing to hold yeah yeah and one of the trends we're actually seeing is that kids you know there are some years and those of you that have had kids go through like some some kids will take six seven eight 8p tests and what we're really encouraging kids to do is like try and take one right like if they if kids
020can handle that that's great but we'd rather have more kids give one test a try um and you know for not for students not to put so much pressure on themselves to feel like they need to be in every single AP class some kids can handle it but also we want them to be able to explore other things too so to have a good well you know a balanced approach okay there's no further questions let's move move on to the community annual report Rick cek will uh explore that one good evening uh we've done this for about five straight years now so this is our annual report in the Summer where we recap an entire school year and remind everyone of all the positive stuff that's happened at school and give all of our kids
021another final shout out we hold on of these documents all year and distribute them at uh different events and as you see up here uh we are going to have this in homes estimated August 12th so all residential addresses and Bensonville Wooddale and then the one subdivision of Addison over on 83 backing up to uh the force preserve and and 290 so uh again the report covers topics such as District updates which is our stem wi the fact that we're completed with our uh water mitigation project fact that we distributed more than $20,000 in scholarships through our Fenton Foundation academic achievements like the state Scholars our questbridge Scholars National recognition students and a little highlight on the Northwestern Medical explorers program that we had students participating in and then here we have our extracurriculars uh
022nice little shout out for the record basketball season the boys basketball season Breaking a bunch of records and then you'll see that it's upside down on the other side so yeah I was going to say it'll be it won't be upside down in the August 12th residential delivery will it it will yes so the the new format that we have is it will be a dual English and Spanish publication so if you look on one side it'll be the cover in English and you flip it over and it's well that's in English flip it in Spanish so it is meant to be upside so you know when the publication ends when it's upside down you've read it all yeah so it will be in sequence going both ways so depending which way you want to
023pick it up out of your mailbox you can start going and it'll be the same content back to front great touch yeah and this is this the first year we've done Spanish Rick or this is our second year the first time we uh we did it separately and had two separate Publications but then juggling both of them figured let's just sandwich it together okay like put makes everything feel equal yeah right good point that's good yeah it's great touch the end of the year and uh this way we're starting the school year off uh this time around with a lot of positivity reminding what what kids can achieve this upcoming year just want to say I I really appreciate that you guys did the the inverted like that because now regardless your reading from the
024front to the back on the left side exactly I know doesn't seem like my but does to me at least you're exactly right it's left or right no matter which version you're reading yep is that your idea uh there were a couple of other schools that did something similar for um like their course guides and stuff like that so he's being modest was not my idea but I agreed with it I I adapted it to my needs yeah okay yeah that's great all right and then I'll give you a couple updates I know it's still July but we are in full back to school mode in our admin team so a couple of highlights of what we have coming up in the first couple of weeks even before our students um come back so August
0252nd we are very excited um and anticipating a community exercise that um Eric Canda has really been heading up for us it's an emergency preparedness drill so you can see there on the left side we are partnering with a number of local agencies so the Bensonville PD and fire Wooddale PD and fire Homeland Security County Homeland Security local hospitals um Metra and other County agencies so what's going to be happening here is we're going to have an active shooter scenario um so what this does it allows our participating organizations to test and evaluate our safety plans and operations uh so what that's going to look like for us is our entire campus is going to be closed down until 12:30 we've already alerted teachers and students and practice and things like that um on a
026larger level all of the surrounding streets will also be closed off and the agencies are in charge of making sure that all of the homeowners in the area are aware of that and know what's going on um so everyone will be very well informed of this uh we have volunteer participants from many areas but specifically from Fenton we have administrators teachers staff and students who are all going to be a part of this uh obviously there's a lot of benefits to this but from Fenton's perspective what we're really interested in is the debriefing process so we'll have an immediate debrief of how everything went but then Eric Kanda and our two deans will be part of a continuing ongoing debrief process and that will allow us to adjust and update our school response procedures to
027make sure that there are no holes I have a question has Shen never done this before not I we did something and I don't know this for sure we did something a couple years ago I can comment on that Fenton actually helped the village of Bonville and Fire Protection District run a full scale drill for simulating an aircraft crash I was on that planning committee Fenton let us use the school to do our our our Mage prep our patience use this as our briefing point us this say our staging point and we responded to the scene we handled the scene we came back we debriefed in the auditorium um all right yeah I was assigned to this drill for my Tas and helped with a majority the planning for the past drill so it wasn't
028Fenton's drill but Fenton fully supported it lint yeah participated yes yes and it was a lot of benefits out of that this is this is going to be a good thing for all of us quite honestly yeah all right if anybody's interested in volunteering just let us know Eric Canda can um John will be here um but if anybody else is interested in witnessing or being a volunteer you are more than welcome um you know a majority of our administrative team is going to be a part of this because it's a really important learning experience for us so we're we're really grateful for this opportunity and it's been months and months and months of planning literally you know many meetings so it's really great is there a financial component that Fenton has to be responsible
029for this or is this all funded by the external groups I I mean I'm sure we will May incur costs for Manpower but you know each department covers its own Manpower costs uh the organizing department is responsible for supporting it uh sometimes you can receive grants for large scale drills that's going to fall to Bensonville PD fpd EMA that's Emergency Management agency that that's going to fall predominant to them to incur sometimes you'll get help through the county um like uh the drill we did with the aircraft uh we ended up using four school buses so there was a small cost to get the school buses and the drivers out there it's very minimal but the return is you can't even can't even calculate the return just the fact that we could practice our procedure
030and test them Eric attended a seminar I was at we had a very long conversation from my past life to my current life and some ideas and changes cuz things evolve it's we can don't get me started we want to end early if we want to talk meet you somewhere for a beverage and we can have a in depth discussion finger that way I I only asked I didn't see any line items or call outs and our budgetary stuff so I was just wanting to reaffirm that we hadn't skipped over it or miss it in some way so right um sounds like it's just ba stuff so yeah right and we'll give you an update next month on how everything went um new teacher orientation is coming up on August 7th 8th and 9th as
031of now we have 10 new certified staff so it's a it's a fairly large group coming in and two new administrators who will be a part of that so um just as we always do we have student Le building tours which is nice the teachers really enjoy or the teachers are new staff because there's counselors and social workers um getting to know the building with our link crew students who give them tours we give them a general overview and introduction to Fenton they meet their mentors we have a really robust mentoring program for both our new staff and our seconde staff and then the Highlight is um it's it's kind of become like this new legendary thing John agular uh who you all know gives a bus tour of the history of the Fenton and
032Wooddale area so we go and see um all of the major sites including Fisher Farms but all of the grade schools we see redond um just so that our new staff really can see what our community is about and it's really wonderful so we we are thankful for John that he is willing to do that we have our teacher and staff Institute days Monday August 12th is certified staff and then uh August 13th is all staff um one of the things that we want to highlight this year that we're really excited about on day two so when all of our staff is back we are going to have a keynote speaker um a gentleman that Sam actually saw at a conference named Christian Moore uh and he focuses on building resilience in students um and
033it's a he's very positive uplifting message um but just how you know some students who struggle having that re resilience what teachers can do and what all staff can do to really help them um so I think that'll be positive and then one another thing that we're really excited about is that we are going to have all state all staff mandated report stat mandated reporter training that day too so again in light of everything we want to make sure that that is something that all staff is exposed to um so we're bringing in a a law fir to do that with us here's a little calendar that you'll be getting in the uh our families will be getting in the mail so just save the dates for August most of which we've gone through if
034you go to the next slide um some of the highlights textbook pickup we've actually changed this year it's going to be we always used to do it one day a lot of our parents said that that was stressful or if they couldn't make that day so we've adjusted and we're going to have it the fifth the 6th and the 7eventh so we hope that that offers more flexibility for our families to be able to come in um something new this year bison sneak peek night uh so this is an idea that we had with knowing that a lot of kids have anxiety about the school year so this is a full week almost a week and a half before school starts it's before freshman orientation it's 2 hours that the school is going to be
035open we'll have administrators here we'll have some resources they can buy spirit wear we're going to have link crew students so when students come in they can go find their lockers they can walk their schedules it's just going to be very casual laid-back um it's intended for incoming freshmen but anyone can come so any kid who's just like I don't know where my locker is or things like that it's a chance for them um just to come in and get acclimated hopefully take some anxiety down so we're excited to try that out and then we have our orientations so our transfer student orientation we like to do something special for them because a lot of times transfer students feel like that you know they just kind of get lost in the shuffle so we have
036a special it's an abbreviated um uh orientation for them so that's Wednesday August 7th from 1:30 to 3: and then our big kickoff for our incoming freshmen uh is on Thursday August August 8 August 8th which most of our uh link crew students run that so we're excited about that so we are revving up for the new school year and we're really excited about it is there did I see right that our homecoming is going to be uh disco theme it is Disco themed get ready for Sam's outfit I want to special I'm excited to see what Sam's gonna heads up Kent start planing that now John TRN s trol there you go got to get Groll these in a little thicker part of it okay Jose you ready for fo update uh Foya we
037have uh two foas that have been resolved uh first one uh gentleman was asking for a copy of our current strategic plan list of Essa list of law firms to submit a proposal for RFP the second one was um asking for emails of board members teachers and administrators so both have been resolved we're all good what was Creative Energy looking for emails of board members teachers and administrators emails of not their email okay yeah so we're good next item is consent agenda may I have a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented so moved second roll call Figo yes Rego yes KC yes razinski yes goodr abstain Lewis yes motion passed may I have a motion that the Board of Education approve the disposal of the attached list of old and obsolete equipment that
038is no longer useful to the district so moved second uh discussion discussion yeah do we we able to get any money for that yeah I can take that question Britany is spearheading this but yes so basically we will get whatever we can get as we basically recycle this equipment through companies has usable it has exactly right so we will get whatever we can out of it yes roll call figuroa yes hay yes poovak yes razinski yes Goodridge Yes Lewis yes motion passed may have a motion that the Board of Education approves the title change of identified representative for Gil Bank contract to inter superintendent Samuel Benson some moov second any discussion roll call Figaro yes hay yes kovak yes rinsky yes goodr yes Lewis yes motion passed our next item is change order of drainage
039upgrade okay very good if I could have the representatives from Gil Bane and Str Str and CS2 come forward and here tonight we have uh Mitch from gilbane in the order that they're coming up we have Bob from CS2 we have Paul from St Str and Michelle's going to stay there but we're glad you're here okay um and they're here to kind of run us through these change orders we'll start first with uh some leftover work from the drainage project yeah so the uh the change order for the drainage upgrade here this is uh work associated with the the E Stitch uh that runs runs along the road there it is on uh the district's property and uh helps facilitate facilitate the drainage from uh the storm sewers in the front of the building uh
040around to the uh corner of Green Street there where it then uh goes underground and feeds into the the storm sewer that runs along the railroad tracks uh to the west and then ultimately underneath the railroad tracks over to Irving Park uh over time this ditch has continued to fill with uh silt and grass and is built up and often during during rain events uh water will sit in that ditch for extended periods of time uh the proposed scope here is to uh excavate dispose of the uh silt and sent that's built up over time there restore it to its uh previously uh designed grades and then restore it with grass and matting so that uh during during rain events and after rain events uh water would only be sitting there for a limited amount
041of time while it uh flows out through the the head wall at Green Street uh out into this out the storm sewers so this is what we discovered when we did the allinclusive survey we finally completed it completed it so we've completed a majority of that survey um this is a area that was identified early on that we were waiting until in theory the dryer months we haven't really we haven't really gotten there yet but um we have done the video for the balance of the site uh we do know of two areas or we've done the sorry we've done the cleaning for the balance of the site uh the area that remains to be videoed is the area along uh that actually runs along the railroad tracks uh there's been some standing water in
042there that we're working to address uh so that we can finish that videoing but we do know of two areas in this J same general vicinity where there's laterals that uh run across the road that will need to be addressed uh which we we'll be working with uh the civil engineer to uh re get a design and restore those two areas got so some of the work actually goes off the off the picture there or some yes no it actually the the open drainage ditch runs from the there's a flared end section at the uh South End and then there's an open uh pipe that runs underneath Green Street that then takes uh all that storm water underground this was a this this this is related to the uh collapse covert from early in the
043season came across the front that was reconstruct yeah so this this is the continuation of that um in lowering those grades uh in restoring that ditch to its grades from when it was originally probably constructed to help facilitate that that drainage through there you if you go through there now or after after rain events you'll often see that there's standing water there um it's just a result of over time continuing to build up did we uh as we did this investigation did we check to make sure that we've got good neighbors and we don't have inappropriate or illegal water shedding from the neighbors into this ditch uh that's not something we've typically done before no concern on that I wouldn't say we've seen anything that has been gross or NE or anything like that along
044there like that has that hasn't come up in the past yeah uh but I mean some keep keep keep an eye on I suppose most of the homes along this that section I kind of closed off and don't have yeah back access to the roadway through here right but I'm looking at like folks who are running like a popup right on the property line and putting their water into our space contributing to the sutage and things like that that's why I was asking a question yeah no we haven't seen that but we haven't seen that we can certainly ey on yeah take one more look at that before all L to make sure there's nothing yeah me I can work with with Tom Co and you know just just to you know keep a check
045on that right understood just remind me of the of the process here so we approved the change order then you go and bid the work yes is that how that works there's no price tag on this yet is there yes yeah there is it's it's in the packet the the change order since it's under 10% of the total project we can just go with people that have done the work before oh it's tooo bad you didn't put that number up on the screen whatever that number is I it was in our package that was provided us what's that that number was was in the packet that was provided us you know I remember seeing some of it in here I just didn't commit it to memory that's okay all right yeah the total Allin total
046is 81,000 yeah I see that 81 8123 yes yeah so they'll what they'll do is uh once this is approved uh we'll authorize our contractor to proceed with the work and then they'll mobilize equipment along that ditch line to essentially dig out restore the grades there reinstall uh 4 in of top soil and then they'll put like a heavier Duty uh seed and blanket in there to help with with any erosion to help facilitate uh grass growth even if we do continue to get get the raides that we get away so this was a yeah yeah there's money within that that project still like we've even talk about allocated remember projects yeah some of this stuff there was an $800,000 slush fund at the bottom of some budget I remember seeing basically the funds are
047there um we we've actually we talked about doing some other projects through some of that that money that was left so it within yeah effect all right I won't the point okay yeah when the just to remind when we had the initial collapse and the flooding at the front of the building gilban came in and helped us fix that and then we authorized at that point read to do a full inspection of the entire building the areas that we hadn't been addressing here hadn't looked at to find any other opportunities to mitigate or you know prevent prevent problems and I think this is the last area that you guys were looking at there's some remediation that needs to be you said there's one more area remaining after this that we just have standing water you
048haven't been able to access yeah so there's one area along uh along the railroad tracks that we haven't been able to camera because of some standing water um and then there's two areas of pipe repair that we'll have uh we're still working will be working with engineer to design a fix for that one is uh just in front of the uh District parking lot just the south of the district parking lot and the other is in that Middle Island uh kind of in between in the middle line in that uh that pool in the backyard there uh so kind of in that line right there uh there's a line that appears to be be collapse that we weren't able to camera through so part of um the areas the lines along the uh the railroad
049tracks um I guess it's part of that to figure out what's stopping the flow I I presume yeah so we uh I actually met with Tom uh uh yesterday and again this morning and looked at that and we're going to be reaching out uh and talking with Bensonville about that to see if there's there's something further on down the line that is that's impeding impeding the full Flow full flow through there possibly on The Village's side and we we don't believe there's any blockage on on our side okay so the they were able to fully jet uh the lines all the way through it's just with the you know 4 to 6 in of water that that's standing in that pipe you can't get a you can't get a good view with the camera through
050there while we're talking about drainage and flooding uh has anybody found next to the speedway on the north side of the tracks that looks like they were doing a pretty major project and it it looks partially involved with drainage that's not going under the tracks towards us is it that's staying north of the tracks that's not something that could bother us later we might maybe ask the village talk to somebody I mean there's a pretty major project yeah I can't I can't speak to where that flows to I know they they are installing a storm trap system they similar to what what we installed that's what caught my eye I just want to make sure they're not training I don't think they'll get permission to go under to tracks I just we just spent all
051this money we might as well ask questions now a village and make sure that they're not the line that runs correct me runs parallel to the tracks doesn't feed across the tracks is that correct we drain underneath the tracks okay so we run uh parallel we have two lines one that runs kind of from this corner here uh to the West parallel to the tracks it connects to our manhole that picks up essentially everything from around the back side of the building our fields and then all that connects to a manhole and that all flows out uh in a 48 inch diameter pipe to the uh North up to Irving Park so somewhere in the 48 after it leaves our site it's stopping the flow yeah along that there yeah there's in imped of some
052sort you know it's causing probably you know 4 Ines 4 to six Ines of water in the pipe so it it may be able to be easily resolved by The Village you know through cleaning it but that's something that uh Tom and I I'll work with the village on uh trying to get somebody out there to identify what that may be okay okay just real quick as a reminder that 48 in pipe that's a new pipe that was put in on this as part of this last project yeah no no no no we connected to an existing 48 in pipe that that then carries it across or underneath the TR the train tracks into the city system the what the remediation Pro we have is for the this part of the area here draining into
053our own water management versus I thought I thought this that's up in the north east corner was kind of like a flood or water catch that goes to the Village it all drains back kind of across the field in into that that 48 that 48 inch catch Basin that takes everything out right to piggy back off a we question can we address like what happens after this change order what happens after the last camera um that you need to do and then how we close out the flood mitigation project so that we kind of put a bow on this yeah so after after we finish this um we'll we'll uh we'll ensure that there's no additional remediation work that has to be done in that area that we haven't camed yet and then once we
054do that we'll price and present the final remediation work for these two items that we were identified during the caming and we'll address that work and that should close out uh all the work that's been identified as part of the initial flood mitigation plan and the work that was identified after the rain event uh this past FL and that's that's two collapse pipes and that's the C that need the two collapse pipes and then the uh the open the open uh that whatever yeah open drain ditch open drain ditch y that standing water the pipe with the standing watering is that related to the northwest corner of our Fields where we were I guess months earlier trying to work with the village to help resolve why it wasn't FL so the northeast corner it all
055drains from the northeast corner along the track the northeast corner not Northwest that's where yeah northeast corner runs along the tracks there um so that's the area that we'll all this is related to that standing water in the line yes okay yes so yeah once once that once we're able to address the standing water we'll telev we'll finish televising that pipe and then that will close out you know our investigation for any remediation work which as Michelle mentioned we would we still have uh contingency with left within this project uh in the 10 million that was initially approved to be able to cover any of this remedial work that wasn't included in the initial scope that was going to be my question I know we're not you know all knowing and you open things up
056and if you find things but in your past experience we should still remain under budget even with the this change and the two changes that are com yes I know there's no guarantees I'm not going to hold you to it yeah something pops up but we we should still be coming in under budget just not as much under budget as we were expecting prior to the camera work but correct we prevent flooding and damage in the future I mean we if we're going to do it we got to do the project right correct then anything that's left over from that flood mitigation project and the contingency once we do these last two items we would return and you guys can decide what you want to do with that well we're going to push it as
057a board so that's great we're going to get money back but just not as much we hopefully have the afforded the opportunity to do more absolutely it let us do a more complete and thorough project doing the the cameras and everything else so we're we're getting a bigger bang than our buck we still initially assessed and hopefully we'll be drier than we were exactly I want some change back for my 34 million project millions of different projects yeah this was the and M Point uh it's more of M it's m maintaining it and just ensuring that it doesn't you know if you start to see sediment and build up in there it's much easier done in smaller increments uh over time and again with with this regrading of that work once the grass does is
058restored and everything through that ditch it will be easier for the maintenance team to maintain that ditch as well cuz right now it's often partially full of water so it's harder to get in there and maintain so that the team will be able to maintain that ditch uh with a little more ease Sam that's something that will be specifically communicating to our maintenance crew for this right cool once the ditch is graded and you've put in the grass and those things is it possible you provide uh I guess some maintenance tips to the to them regarding the maintaining of that I know that's not something that they come in knowing yeah no we can certainly provide some some recommendations you know with talking with both our uh our trade partners and the design team to
059make sure that uh we come up with a a plan that that works so that all the work that's put in here is uh is maintained throughout the years to come especially the dish M because that's kind of specialized yes so yeah I can see the assistance on that being necessary to maintain that cuz it is we do need that dish flowing to keep the front side dry agreed well $81,000 you know that uh old adage of you don't want to be a ditch digger do you it's a bad deal anymore cool thank you just CL yeah thank you R um may I have a motion that the Board of Education approved the resolution for the change order for drainage upgrade as presented so second roll call figureo yes hay yes kovak yes rinsky yes
060Goodridge Yes Lewis yes motion passed next item is steem Wing change order secondary electrical relocation okay we'll turn it back over to Mitch and Str Str and CS2 so I'll get i'll kind of leave the groundwork a little uh of the the background on this uh so as part of our uh stem Edition we had planned for the relocation of a ComEd uh primary service line that runs uh essentially directly through uh our foundation line for for the new stem Edition uh as we are working with ComEd uh for the installation of their pathway out there uh they came to us on the afternoon of uh Friday uh June 28th and asked if we were aware of a secondary line that was was present a secondary duck bank that was present uh that they had
061encountered at the northwest corner of the building uh at that time we were not aware of a secondary line that was run at that location uh so we had we talked with Tom uh he was not aware of one that was in that location uh so we further investigated with ComEd and their subcontractor inin that was out there doing the work for them um and began tracing tracing the line back uh to what you see here is the the Edison uh manhole uh at that time uh ComEd and inin uh were able to open up that manhole and determine that it was actually uh second AR cables which are customer owned that were run in that in that or in that manhole and not uh ComEd primaries uh it was found that the ComEd primaries
062and the secondaries are likely run in the same path or same uh duck Bank directly adjacent to each other uh which would have made it appear that the ComEd primer was running directly through that and not provideed an indication that there was a a secondary service there um so after after a little bit of Investigation out in the field uh we were able to uh at Tom's Direction find some old 1974 drawings uh which confirmed what we had found on site there um but again this is something you know the ComEd manhole is a manhole that typically uh you would not access without somebody specific from ComEd there due to the the voltage that is typically within those uh structures so help me understand so you got a primary duct bank that comes in somewhere
063that's running through the building so so the primary runs from the north uh sorry the southwest corner of the auditorium around the around the the west side of the building continues around and there's two Transformers kind of near that back parking lot yeah and the the primary runs to that location then at that same time the secondary runs out of the electric room at that northwest corner kind of in between the two Transformers and traces that same path backwards to the auditorium where it feeds uh the auditorium power as well as uh two of the rooftop units for the auditorium can we have the next slide I think there's a drawing of that in the next slide I'd like to I see it okay yeah that makes it a little easier to see so the
064red line is the sight line and the black line so the red line is the bubble so you see the black line there what you see there is is the rerouted position for the uh for the secondary work uh the Shaded out area is the new building there and that essentially the line runs directly through the corner okay right now wait hit me hit me again the red is what and the black is what the black is the where you're going to is the and we have a pointer yeah yeah I like that all right so you can kind of see my uh my cursor here so the primary runs into this room here or sorry the secondary runs into this room here runs underneath this edge of here of the building comes back around
065and runs into there's a secondary not on there the secondary was not on the initial plans for for relocation so where's the primary now the primary runs the same path back here the existing primary does we already relocated it 30 ft to the to the west to account for the New Foundations because we knew that was at that location okay we knew it was in so basically to say it another way it's not like the primary and secondary were in different locations we just didn't know the secondary was there so we did all the work to move the primary and then we discovered that there was another duct in there when we were digging everything up correct and now that needs to get moved too correct there were two they they pretty much ran in
066parallel except they were kind of running in different directions the primary was running around the building to the Transformers and then the secondary was running from the electrical room back around the building and that poers the auditorium correct it Powers the auditorium and then there's two other conduits in there that pop up uh in a electrical room near the bathrooms for the seawing there um that we are already uh intending to reroute overhead due to that area being sure uh Disturbed as part mainly the power for Auditorium and there some secondary sources correct it makes sense now for the primary and the secondary installed at the same time in 1974 yes or whenever they were install I'm not sure if they done at the same the same time frame I would think so I would
067be probably because that duck Bank being that it says comed on it it was probably paral they were just paralleling the feeds because they could build one trench and run all the condos in one trench so uh it would be cost effective to do it that way okay so um when you inquire uh who did you get in did we provide you initial plans um or existing plans for that for that area yes yeah so we didn't provide you information that the secondary duct Bank was there correct we the the duct or the cond wood and the manhole is picked up on the uh civil drawings but when it was identified identified as a com only as a com com right it's really and and really typically uh secondary theaters are typically routed inside a
068building they're not typically routed outside of building want to hit them with trees and other things I guess my question I guess I'll just get to it if you got existing plans from us that that we provided the initial ones that didn't have the secondary on it but then another set of plants was found that did have it on I mean were they no yeah the that's the part I'm getting lost lot of the drawings and we we look at our uh like Riser diagrams or like um I don't know yeah yeah they're like RI Riser diagrams where it shows everything in kind of a schematic form you know and not necessarily in a um exact routing kind of form they more architectural than Civil Right right what's that architectural architectural civil electrical drawings correct
069and then um and like I said the uh line was identified but it was misidentified because it was located as a ComEd line which it was it just happened that the secondary line was just inches away from that and it wouldn't have got picked up by the uh locator and then its main direction is going into a manhole which say say Edison on it which nobody could open except for Edison so it all everything pointed in the direction this was simply an Edison you know and if we knew that it wasn't at the time we would have relocated it along with the ComEd line there's one I go back to my question you were provided plans that did not have the secondary identify I guess that's why I'm trying to get clear uh it's identified
070diagrammatically but not precisely correct right right so when we so so there's one manhole cover I'm looking at the the right yeah there's only there's only one manhole there should have been two two right but I'm seeing here that a confirm at the manhole located south of the existing interior exterior bathroom doors labeled Edison service is not a ComEd manhole but a secondary manhole that does not contain any ComEd right yeah how that because we already moved everything no what happened was is ComEd came out in the fall and it was planned to relocate this line beyond the footprint of the addition and then what happened was this just recently in June they were actually looking to do the work is when they opened up the manhole finally ComEd did and we're like wow that's
071not what we expected we thought our stuff was going to be in here and it wasn't uh it was also full of water it had to be drained and that's when they found these other feeders so this van hole here that you see the picture of while it's labeled an Edison manhole there is no ComEd Line running through there it is only secondary lines that are run through there oh why why wasn't I'm trying to figure out if it's man when you have go ahead I'm sorry well no I'm trying to you know it's is a Layman's point of view I'm hardly an electrician or an engineer but there was a manhole nobody saw it till now no the manhole was identified on the Civil drawings yeah as a Commonwealth Edison manhole because it one
072it saysed on top of and the lines that were traced lead right in that direction now when Julie comes out to Mark they're they usually there's like a 18in uh plus or minus tolerance you know or somewhere in the area you know so they everything LED them to believe that this was you know so Julie was out here and they did Mark this correct right and then L what you're telling me there's a margin of error in a fashion right right and then that line was being relocated as an Edison line yeah but it wasn't until this just recently when ComEd finally went to move the line to do the EXT work that even they realized cuz they were going to move the manhole when they realized it wasn't they their stuff wasn't in it
073so so that's what I keep coming back to yeah so the the primary never enters this man correct it goes directly they're they're tracing they're parallel to each other and then they just miss the manhole so they just so it's from the building to the Transformers no manhole in between right they should never have used a comet manhole for their yeah so but we now you guys when we say we we moving the line that's the other like the ComEd line right when you say we're moving the line and then you say well ComEd has come out to move the line well by by us I'm saying the the collectively ComEd is part of the process of moving the line right do we already like put the conduit down all digits put in and just
074moving the actual like they're just running a new piece of copper through for for the ComEd primary relocation our responsibility uh on the owner's behalf is to install the pathway and then ComEd comes in and physically pulls the cable through it and does the terminations uh at the uh Transformer to make the new terminations and then does the terminations at the existing handhole uh at the southwest corner of the auditorium so that is that is comed's work this was identified uh when I said the second we found the secondary duck Bank it was identified when comed's contractor inin they actually do the the pathway work from our conduit actually into comed's uh equipment uh since we're not able to work within their equipment uh that's when this was this was found as part of their
075uh excavation around the the Transformers so go ahead I I have a question oh go ahead yeah I'm just trying to trying to get trying to get to the end here so this manle cover was put in we made a gross assumption that the primary ran into it that was incorrect it's got something else inside of there which is the secondary so had never owned this piece and then uh um we did all the the condo work to move it so our conduit has been pushed over to the left we buried it it's all ready to go for comment to come in and pull their line through now we got a had dig up another trench to put a new piece of conduit in for the secondary line correct yes that's the part that I
076was trying to get to is that we completed our work which is we did all the conduit they've got to come in and put it in it would have been two for for us if we had know we needed to do two sets of conduit but now we got to go back and do another trench more conduit and then we got to pull someone else pull the secondary through that's right this sounds like like double work it is because you it you already did the primary and nobody was I don't know the problem was and I'm guessing I'm surmising we can't go back to 1974 someone had a ComEd cover they paralleled the ComEd line within the 18inch fudge factor and you don't open a ComEd Vault without ComEd so everybody is assuming once Comet
077opened at Vault it was discovered this ain't our line so someone saved money in 1974 by using the wrong cover and we're paying $316,000 today because of that $200 saing in 1974 my guess is that that whoever was running this did both and possibly 1974 my guess is that if I were to look at this and go back in time the primary was supposed to go through the manual cover and the secondary was supposed to go through the one that bypassed it and they it very possible very possible I mean I mean if if you look at it that's the that's the only explanation that makes sense why would come at put a manhole in there and not use it right but re one thing to just address with uh what you said is it
078is I wouldn't say it's double work we still would have had to have done this work no matter what if we had known it at that point in time but we would have we obviously would have been able to do have done that work at the same time but we still would have had the same uh conduit and uh yeah but I'm thinking of D now you got to Double trench or you got to screw around with that yeah so they'll they'll they will similar to what we did with the primary uh relocation they'll bore it from they'll directionally bore it from the uh almost a Transformer location underneath the foundations to the to read point in today's world would they have allowed you to run those two lines that close together in that 18inch
079fo Factor you would have still had to make two distinctly that's correct yeah now they wouldn't let us do that because of these problems yeah right so still had to drink two ditches you just would have done it at the same time any any customer owned cable we avoid R running it even Outdoors we prefer to get it below the slabs because of this kind of stuff so let me ask this question we knew we had a secondary line when did we when we were going to do the work to identify where it was like I'm guessing there has to have been some line item somewhere of you got a secondary Line running through the building we're going to identify that yeah we identified some of the lines that we uh that we did relocate
080it was I think a total of seven lines or something that came through that we did relocate we just didn't know the auditorium lines went under there right but we didn't so there were other ones we did because the part of the building was being removed we had relocated those are all part of the project to move those uh I mean question I'm asking is the auditorium has power somehow it's coming from this Transformer but at no point did we up until this manle cover was open we bothered to look and figure out actually how the auditorium was powered how the power was getting oh because you you it's all below the ground uh they did identify lines outside but those lines were never identified as Auditorium feeders or were identified as ComEd feeders because
081of their close proximity to yeah I know but in my world I would call it as simple as taking an inventory if I've got seven or eight lines coming in i' certainly want to know where all the trace them back to wherever they coming from yeah typically it's it's they're buried they're buried they're under the building they're under build when we say in the building we don't mean in the ceiling we don't mean typically right so it's not in the building it's under the building yeah correct that's I'm just I know sounds I'm sitting here trying to go well how did we not see it missing Conduit on our plan but you're like well I expected it concrete all right that's a completely different it's the first thing they do they put it all in
082the dirt and they build on top of and then the way if you've never worked with Jolie I've had to wait for them on scenes for other calls there's that fudge factor I call it a fudge Factor probably of 18 in and the fact that our wire was within that 18in range they the the technology they use can't there two know there's electricity going and it's in this 18in range and we got very unlucky I don't know somebody saved money in 1974 we're going to pay for it today um the question I still have has to do with um the initial collection of information about existing conditions um what was different about the plans that were initially provided you on the uh addition uh on the additions then the um one that was found after
083you guys were told that that was a secondary line because I guess what you said earlier was that on the plans that were initially provided it was labeled as a ComEd no ComEd pole ComEd ComEd um that was ComEd but the plans we later found the secondary line was identified on was it was it incomplete set that you were initially provided or was that a whole another set of plans no I think the part I think it was part of the same set of plans but I don't think the line was ever identified in plan it was always just in schematic form it wasn't in like it wasn't like uh to my knowledge it was never a plan that said here's where these lines are physically in the ground it was more of a schematic
084that says from this board cables go here then they go here and these go from here to here it's more of a um you know like a a a block diagram showing you how everything connects but it's not to scale it's not it wasn't a sight plan no it wasn't a sight plan it was just a like a um generic uh like a wiring diagram no I understand I'm not not not a plan view or a site plane that showed you the routing of where I understand what you're saying I'm I'm engineer about background that's the part I was I had reading through it correct yeah I got just needed more info on it was a site plan as opposed to the electrical diagram I understand the differences between the two far if it was
085a site plan provided I could understand how that secondary line was missed but if it's an electrical diagram I understand yeah yeah so the when we say in the bullet point and confirm the conditions on site right that's the diagram that does not show the physical placement of the cable that is the connection schematic diagram that we're talking about so there really wasn't any plans that or site plan to show the actual location of where that secondary or primary was laid out outside the building yeah to my knowledge that's correct yes okay and why does ComEd enter the building to then leave the building to get transformed down and then come back to the building again they there's an electrical room that has two Transformers at two different voltages that feed a switchboard and uh
086what happens is the primary comes in it goes into the Transformer then it goes into the switchboard from the switchboard it comes back out to another set of Transformers somewhere else there's only one set of trans so the Transformers are outside the building the power runs to those Transformers and then it comes from those Transformers into the building to feed the building switch gear and then our secondaries leave the building from there and come back out essentially in between the Transformers is so what I'm trying to understand is so so ComEd has nothing that comes into our building to get to that Transformer that's sitting outside they power the transform for and then from there we have conduit running out in multip we have theaters that multiple theaters that go from there to the building
087but it's it's literally within maybe 8 ft of the building there's just a short section between the Transformers and the building okay we're so I'm just trying to understand like PA to move a primary line and that came in the building somewhere to go back out that's what I'm trying to understand yeah it's very it's it's very unusual that the secondaries would follow the same path as aate I I totally get that I'm just trying to understand ComEd to our building and from our building the primary out to the Transformers and the Transformers back into the building again no no no what happens primary is outside and it's running into Transformers I I think you're reversing terminology I think that's what's screwing you up yeah the comat is the primary and it's at a higher
088voltage yeah and then it goes to the Transformer and so you'll bring one line to the Transformer and we may bring like six or eight lines from into the building I I I 100% understand that's not what I'm talking about okay we move the primary line right so where's the other end of that primary line there's one in the Transformer where's the other end it goes out to the property line out to the street that's the that's the manhole at the far uh southwest corner of the not in thect Auditorium okay cuz when I'm looking at the diet when I'm looking at the picture here it looked like that was primary was ending in the building like the other it what you see there that black line that's our that's the secondary line we're looking
089to second okay that's what was confusing me on all this okay oh I see where you were going now I why in the building to leave the I see where that drawing I got I got it okay I see where you would be confused by that too okay uh we spent a lot of time um trying to understand this but the question is how much more is it going to cost to fix what I think it's was it $318,000 okay that's the change order that was in our packet and then does that include the remediation of the water issue in this no no the SE two separate item Oh you mean water in the manhole manhole is that getting remediated as well that man yeah that goes away that manhole goes away he goes away
090that's than I see where you're going so if we had known before now yes would it have cost this much but is it is it are we making a correction and now doing it right or I mean would it have cost this much more had we known in the first place first y let me summarize so ComEd wouldn't have done this for us they would have only done their primary the secondary would have been something that was done by our subcontractor because of the value of it it is more than the 10% and we needed to come to give approval in order to do this more than less than 10% it's less than 10 pardon me it's less than a 10% but because of the value and the magnitude of it we felt it was
091best to present it to the board to make sure that everyone understood what needs to take place what we have lost here is time so we've lost the time to do it at the same time that ComEd was here we would have done it at that time dug it up put in the new conduit pulled it com would have pulled their stuff with their sub we would have pulled our stuff with our sub and then we would have gone forward so what we're what we're losing or what is costing us is time are is there some inefficiencies in not doing it at the same time yes but is it something that you guys would have paid for um at the bidding time yes so this while this is labeled a change order it is something
092that you would have still needed to pay for and would have been part of the original base bid had we known at the time that that was here that's my so there this is something that we would have had to pay for either way it is fortunate that we didn't know that they were so close to each other that um it wasn't a comat line so we could have told comat and their sub to do it but it is it would because it belongs to the school it is your secondary line that you guys put in in the 70s it is your responsibility to relocate it at your cost yeah that was never a question cu the way this has been understand no but I I think I think the question is because you that
093you know had we been able to do this the first time it seems like we could have saved a couple of bucks but you know, would have been 20 I know we can't back in time it's a difference of in scope and out of scope that is true it's a what aope could we have gotten a better price if we would have packaged it all together likely change orders are often done by our subcontractors um we try to keep them honest we we beat them up we say hey we want to make sure that we can continue to do work with this school with this District at a cost that's reasonable so yes did we go through their proposal make sure that there were some efficiencies in there and that you were getting the best
094bang for your buck at this time absolutely I think the the only feedback in all of this is that the way this is presented was really confusing to us and I think we could have done a better job presenting this and a more concise and concise then also like the drawings and stuff like here's what we did here's what's here's what you guys still need to do lost and operational efficiency here from onsite fair enough we can receiveers we can receive that feedback and appreciate that no that's a that's that's a valid point no that's a very valid statement to make um I guess I just want to be clear again that outside of electrical diagrams in the plans provided an actual location of the secondary wasn't in the plant any existing plans provided that
095was my question through it all not necessarily in scope by the scope and all of that is that as far as the plans provided an actual location wasn't in the pl because I CU I I understand about those electrical diagrams if you're not if you ain't an electrical engineer they don't make sense I get that but if if they do exist I've never I've never seen them because thing um we worked up with like I said we had building drwings interior building electrical plans and we had schematic plans um and then um any identification of the site work was off of the actual surveys and everything that we got oh it was off of surveys and not plans correct for the location that's where that manhole like I said is located and it's identified so
096at the end of it not aware any drawing that is whether we had the drawings or not we're talking a few thousand dollars in having the and the intent is that this will come out of contingency and I've also asked our team knowing the scale and magnitude of this particular change so let's go ahead and take a look and open up the walls that we need to we're hoping nothing else is in the ground right we've had Julie come out here ComEd is out there Etc however when we think about things like this there are other things that may be behind the wall and chases and things that we were thinking that we thought was here now that we have the opportunity I've asked our team to open up the wall take a look in
097there in those locations to make sure that if there's anything buried we find it now so that we can get ahead of it for when we do the work um for the stem Edition and anything that connects to the existing building at this point so the team is fully aware of it I've asked them to do their due diligence to help and partner with the design and engineering team to help mitigate having to bring change orders of this magnitude to the board in the future thank you just one thing to to build on that and over the past last week uh at the end of last week and at the beginning of this week uh our uh virtual design and construction team has been on site doing additional scans above the ceilings in the areas
098where we're going to be doing our connections uh that will help us to identify all the mechanical piping duct work me work that's up there to not help facilitate us with our tie-ins when it comes time to do that tie-in work but also help us to identify any structural imped Ms anything like that that that could could be a challenge down the road for us when we go to do make those connections you made good use of your time all right any other questions for us can can we I'm sorry go ahead just like you guys are doing a great job so I know we're kind of beating up on this it's just more trying to get a good understanding of it so really appreciate you taking the time if you sound frustrated it's not
099that it's with you guys it's more of hey you know we got to send more money and we weren't expecting it no fair enough and we want to make sure that we present clear um change orders to you all so we will take that feedback to make sure that we are putting it in terms that everyone can understand and be comfortable making a decision to to move forward but really at the end this is covered in our contingency which is why we have it we're not incurring truly an additional cost is not a it is not in the true sense of a change order to the bottom line it is it is um allowing a change to come out of the contingency be added to a subcontractor's number that is correct so we're still within
100our overall budget it is use of contingency funds that is correct thank you I'm ready to call it question unless Sam has something to add no well no well I just wanted to to clarify so we were talking about August the 9th perhaps but I know ComEd is talking about coming out August the 2nd but yes I don't know if you ever got uh impact yeah we never got to impact and kind of what the overall what this looks like on the job right now uh unfortunately right now uh the excavation and foundation work for the stem Edition has gone as far as it it could uh we anticipate right now uh that the excavation work uh will resume hopefully August 5th uh and then uh right behind that will be the foundations and uh
101we have some utility tie-ins for the new sanitary that that need to be done as well uh how that how that impacts the overall uh use of the building uh as soon as we get authorization for this uh we're going to look to shut the power down to the auditorium so that we can begin this work uh based on uh anticipated approval of this change tonight uh we feel that we will have power restored to the auditorium uh and the air handler there and I believe there's one office that is impacted by that uh that work would be done uh onor about uh the 20th of August uh and then the science classrooms that are in that area uh the restrooms in the auditorium and the restrooms in the uh backup house for the stage
102uh we would anticipate that uh those will not be able to be used uh with water in the sinks uh because right now the drainage for that has nowhere for it to go uh because we haven't made the final sanitary connection because we have to go through this duck bank to get there uh so we impact to those rooms right now we feel is on our about uh September 3rd when we'll have that back up and running and we've been working with uh both Sam and Kate to uh communicate the areas of impact and when we feel that those will be uh operational fully operational again so that uh they can communicate that down to uh the users in those cases right which which we've already done uh so you know academically there could be
103some adjustments so like say chemistry classes or what have you um in certain classrooms so we're we're trying to do the best we can to work work with that it is early in the year um and other things are happening early in the year so we're we'll do the best we can you know during that time as far as the auditorium if if there's no electricity the first week of the year or what have you that shouldn't really impact us that much uh so just wanted to make the board aware that you know there is some sort of an impact here uh but it's not a schoolwide impact and I think we can we can work around it don't have a choice yeah adapt improvise and overcome well I'm just going to give you a
104really long extension cord to make sure that as long we don't it up no we we just got to keep the the ghost light on the stage on otherwise you know but uh and don't put a com cover is there yeah is there any other manholes or any other utilities around or on our property that we can't open without someone else being there or is this the only one com any any manhole that is coms or ComEd is coms it's their property we don't have any issues with like public works or or anything like that we don't have any any other manhole that we don't own on the property except for combat is that right I don't know that we can answer that but I think that we can have uh someone on our sta
105do a courtesy survey just walk property and see if they see something yeah I'm just trying to figure out you know what the water comes in sewer goes out that stuff fair enough we can just I don't want us to be another side like hey we didn't look here there's nothing in the site you're working nothing in the area we're working but typically that's the bigger question but we'll we'll just do a we've got some staff for the Su typically when it comes to moving it I mean opening manhes private owners are encouraged to defer to the public works and when it comes to that right I just yeah you know for for water mitigation stuff or for all yeah said we didn't open this one we didn't find this out because we need com
106there I'm just asking if we have anything else like that we should be at least aware of so sounds like the answer is no it's good but you got an intern you can throw run around the building we have an intern we do know that over the next you know week while ComEd is doing the cut over they will be in these manholes so we'll also have discussions with the crew on site out there to see if they have if they see anything irregular in the manholes when they when they open they're usually we have any concerns about any other water intrusion and any of our other secondary feeds coming into the building that are not we're operating right now okay just asking the question if this one's full of water and what have you
107didn't know that unfortunately they most electric manholes dispite what you think about Power and Water typically requireed to be pumped out to for any of the uh utility providers to work at all right I think we beat this up I'm back to call on a question no I've got one last um hopefully this is a there's an item here called subcontractor Cost Plus 5% markup $83,000 can you give me some more of explanation where is that I believe you're it's probably the the boring in the drainage that's yeah the drainage that was the one we already voted on we already voted on that wait wait wait wait didn't we just do drainage yeah we already did that we already did that we already addressed that and voted on it we're talking about the uh Stam
108wi change order electrical Rel I'm looking at change notice to for 300 380 that would that's this one okay that would be that would be the uh likely be the I don't have it in front of me the boring contractor so the if our subcontractor is if our electrician is using a subcontractor they would be allowed uh 5% markup on uh their subcontractor cost as part of as part of the work so part of this 83 is the cost of boring yeah the actual installation of the conduits what the installation of the conduits yeah that that would be done by by sub does that right yeah that's correct the subcontractor Carlile uh would do that for Fitzgerald electric so it's there it's it's carlile's Cost Plus 5% a second tier sub will do that so
109we've got our first tier sub which is our electrician they have a second tier sub that does the boring which is the installation of the Conduit on second tier Subs our contract affords us the opportunity to do it 5% is the fee that they're able to charge and they cap it so that's their 5% that's their markup yep that's their markup okay all right thank you very much for joining us appreciate you guys good night may have a motion that the Board of Education approves the resolution for the stem we change order for secondary electrical relocation as presented so moved second roll call Figaroa yes hay yes kovc comment says I can then yes rinsky yes Goodridge Yes Lewis yes motion passed does anyone have any committee reports we got uh Community Foundation tomorrow uh
110Sam and you guys are showing up to that yeah I think we have oh sorry I think we have a couple tennis players coming too so patri Rodriguez and Rick CI okay cool um with uh with that we uh we do allow the community tennis courts is that correct absolutely yep okay and then policy we talked about a bunch of policy we be be doing a catchup for March and for uh for July we'll be voting on that next month I don't think we have any that uh no Nas is going to be uh until August August yeah and we've certainly beat up finances and Facilities you want to give a review John review your packet have a nice night are we done no almost no no our next board meeting Wednesday August 21st 2024
111700 p.m. with ATT tenative policy committee meeting at 6:00 p.m. prior to the regular board meeting uh I think it's fin we're not doing a policy are we no no no fin should sorry about that we attended a finance facility meeting prior to the regular board meeting at 6: p.m. May I have a motion in a second to a journ all in favor say a thank you all and good night
