okay very good good evening the april 12 2021 board of education regular workshop meeting will now come to order mrs moak please call the roll mrs buttimer here mr estes here mr guzman here mrs hill here mr lobock here mr curry ms ahmed miss noble dr bruno here mr lobuck please lead us in the pledge i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all come on in okay we will begin first with a special recognition melissa all righty can everybody hear me we can okay um i would like to kick off tonight's meeting with a recognition video just to thank dave um and his fantastic crew for the tremendous amount of work that

has been done to prepare the buildings for april 19th i also want to take a minute to thank dr mccluskey who has literally walked the buildings and rooms as well with dave um anywhere from um measuring and trying out various layouts and setting up classrooms so that they're the best configuration that they could be just the amount of work that has been done in such a short amount of time is really incredible and thank you to katie for putting together this little recognition [Music] video [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] we could never thank you enough for your time effort and dedication that you have put forth this past year and especially in these last few weeks from putting together furniture sanitizing and cleaning rooms setting every classroom and installing air purifiers and additional

safety mitigations across our district you have work days nights weekends and holidays to make all of this happen for our students and staff i know that i don't speak for myself when i say that i am forever grateful but i do want to say thank you for all of your dedication and what you do for our kids [Music] i think it's important before we move on to just remind people that when it came to shutting the building down buildings down to running the chromebook distributions and pickups and supply pickups to everything related to eighth grade graduation last year and the drive-thru with the signs um to all of the things with testing um you know the changes from going to our am pm hybrid and now to fully in person there literally has not been

one thing that our buildings and grounds has not been um keenly involved in and and literally show up and and stay until the work is done so um it's the work that often goes unnoticed um if you don't know what to watch for um but they are truly on top of it at all times and usually have it done before we even know what we need to ask for so dave thank you and thank you to your crew thank you melissa board members any acknowledgment acknowledgement or comments uh for the work that dave and his crew did in converting the buildings quite a significant uh effort dave i'm kind of looking around the pole there but thank you very much for the time that you put in and all of your guys did around the

clock during the spring break also as i understand significant job others thoughts no just thank you very much uh i know it was a huge effort and appreciate all that you put into it thank you thank you dave yeah we really appreciate it dave it looks great there you go okay all right then we will just keep it with melissa and you have a brief return to school plan update i believe right um really tonight i was going to give an update on the status of lunch volunteers and for a brief time today we were fully um had all of the spaces filled hadley um does now need one more person to complete their their volunteer crew so if there is anybody out there that could pick up some days please contact um assistant principal

amanda connell and really just an appeal to any parents who could serve in in a sub capacity to help with lunch we know inevitably things are going to happen with our crew of volunteers um you know so if you would be willing to sub at short notice that would be incredibly helpful i just really want to stress this that there are two things that um really are in our parents hands and controlled to influence our ability to stay open once we make this shift on the 19th we don't have an am pm model to shift back to so um there are two things that can really jeopardize our full reopening and one is not having enough help for lunch recess that is a safety issue um and the other is really quarantine um again with

being in that in that three feet bubble um it is really more important now than ever um to just be very diligent for these last six weeks about choices that you make outside of school um i you know it is more in people's control than they think and we really want to minimize um to the greatest extent possible um unnecessary quarantines if we can avoid them and really don't want to have to be in a situation to take an adaptive pause or anything at a building or throughout the district we we don't have anything to flip back to that would be a half time in person it's it's if we you know if we flip if we can't be in person we're full remote and we really want to do everything that we can to

avoid that for these last six weeks that's really um all of the information that is new i know all of the departments are working hard um including special education um and you know for case managers to be preparing information and making contact with parents um principals are working fast and furious on class assignments and juggling things around to make sure that every classroom maintains that three feet distancing again they will be using a wait list if there are requests to um go in person they can only honor those requests if they're if space allows so um we are on target and um it is because of a tremendous amount of work and effort on the part of everybody but um as of now we don't see anything that will stand in our way of our

of our reopening plan for the 19th thank you melissa board members any questions or comments i'm okay very good thank you all right we will move to public comment members of the public who wish to make public comment virtually during the live stream board of education were invited to complete and submit a form earlier today one individual has done so and will be admitted to the zoom to make public comment by director of technology mike wood speaker will have three minutes and must adhere to board policy to colon 230 public participation at school board meetings and petitions to the board and i see kim is there good evening kim and if you're ready yeah i think it sounds like it may be a little evening of thank yous tonight um i came here tonight to

recognize and thank two leaders in our district ben franklin principal jeff burke and dr k principal burke it's known that culture starts with leadership given the many twists turns and emotions that our district and community has faced this past year it was entirely possible that our neighborhood school community would fragment instead in my experience the ben franklin community showed up together which is no surprise when you understand that culture starts with leadership jeff by always communicating clearly and honestly being forthright open and realistic you have strengthened your school's culture of trust collaboration and support the values you lead with are the very things that build safety and resilience among your teams so they are not only willing but empowered to problem solve and care for each other and our children in a healthy positive manner

in turn this culture and these values not only radiates out to our children but amplifies even further to us as parents my family feels seen and cared for in the midst of some very challenging moments and days and though we are but one family among many with some who have addressed challenges far greater than ours i always feel our needs are validated and addressed i'm so grateful and appreciative of all the effort and care you put into your work i admire your leadership and believe you are a true asset to district 41. dr k it's really easy to see the visible ways you are providing leadership but i want to recognize perhaps the unseen things you are doing that are so important for over a year now which and it's been an intense year you

have consistently managed multiple stakeholder groups with competing visions and priorities brought those same groups to consensus in a way that was productive and moved us forward defined and cultivated a district leadership culture of honesty straightforward communication and a willingness to invite outside perspective to the conversation and you've protected your team from the outside pressures and stressors as best you can i suspect taking many hits on their behalf so that behind school walls your team's focus could remain on our kids as much as possible nothing is black and white right now and you are leading us through the gray it's been an unsustainable year in so many ways yet you continue to sustain it professionally and with compassion thank you for taking risks when you believe in the benefits and your and your willingness to listen

and truly consider different viewpoints as you craft your decisions as we move into the 2021 school year i hope you continue to trust your knowledge experience and your intuition to lead us through to and through this next phase thank you for all you've done and since i have an extra minute um i want to also publicly give a huge public thank you to desiree bruns and sarah gilmar i'm not sure what this year would have been like without you and i'm grateful i don't have to know thank you thank you kim alright one second thank you members of the public are also able to adjust the board in person those individuals should check in with mrs moak the board recording secretary speakers are asked to maintain respectful decorum and limit comments to three minutes or

less any comments not completed can be forwarded to mrs smoke and will be attached to the approved minutes mrs milk is there anyone in person who would like to make public comment justin gaglia um so my public comment tonight is actually for bruce um as we know this will be a coming to a close for his tenure on the board and no amount of thank yous can truly express how grateful i am as a parent and as a community member for all of the hard work that you have done for our children and your time and that you've served on this board you have not you've been the only board member that has asked the tough questions gone against the entire board in voting record and has no hidden agenda other than doing what is

best for the students and bettering our schools not many realize the true bullying that you have endured from your fellow board members the links that you have gone through and the silence that you have been endured because you were not going along with their agenda i thank you for not giving up and still showing up and trying to make your voice heard while it may not have been heard or respected by your fellow board members know that in this community you are greatly admired for the work that you have done and so much appreciated you can walk in the streets in this community with your head held high knowing that you didn't have a hidden agenda you weren't being played by the unions and you weren't hosting some book club while our car our children

are not even in school you advocated so feel it fearlessly for the voices we don't hear all too often and that is from our children so bruce thank you for all the work that you have done on behalf of myself and my family i will always be grateful for your service and trying to make our district better while you served you can walk away knowing that you have done the very best you could because it's only going downhill from here thank you mrs milk stephanie clark before i start i just wanted to also thank dave scamardo and his team i think they deserve a round of applause for all their hard work this year so i was waiting and it didn't happen i didn't want to interrupt but i know they're an awesome team so

no doubt they did that this year so anyway hi there i came here tonight uh also to thank bruce curry is behind the pole there for his four years of service and dedication to the board of education it hasn't been an easy road and i want to applaud you bruce for fighting to be the voice of the community that feels have been lost that feels have been lost on the board over the past four years you've honestly represented students in the community even if you don't agree with others you listen to their concerns and are open to suggestions for different ways of doing things you have been a dedicated board member who would race from your job and things like parent-teacher conferences to attend board meetings and even pta meetings your pulse of the community

as well as your education and finance background helped you push for analysis of our spending evaluation of our academic performance and scrutiny of programs like specialed even when met with resistance you do your homework and come prepared for discussions you add to the conversation and dialogue in a thoughtful way and ask questions the community wants to ask as well unfortunately it hasn't been an easy road for you the past two years i can't think of any time over the past 10 years i've seen a d41 board member have to endorse some of the things you had too new meeting rules were created that limited more discussion at meetings and prevented board members from putting items on the agenda but you always fought against this and bet for your basic rights as a board member you've

been interrupted voted to stop from talking and even refused access to information as a board member thankfully you didn't let this deter you accountability and transparency have always been important to you you fought for transparency and discussions on topics such as the levy and opening of schools i don't think the community will understand the magnitude of your efforts and what you are up against until you're gone and they will wonder why these discussions are no longer happening in public there is a subset of the community that seems to have gotten lost by a majority of the board and it feels like you're the only one interested in the concerns of the other side we can't thank you enough for being our voice it will be a real loss to the d41 community that no longer

that to no longer have you advocating for students parents and teachers however you've earned your retirement i hope you can enjoy some more time with your family and some fishing trips to wisconsin this summer so all the best thanks okay thank you very much okay we will now move into our presentation and we have the pre-k audit report and katie you will walk the board through a report thank you let's just wait for mike to bring it up all right so as many of you know we obtained the preschool for all grant in 2018 which was three years ago this program provides screening and educational programs for three through five-year-olds based on children who have been identified at risk of academic failure children whose family income is less than four times the poverty guidelines and

then we have a blended pfa program preschool for all program which also includes iep and tuition students our grant we run as an extended grant program which runs from july 1st through august 30th that way we can encompass the work that myra our preschool coordinator does over the summer with our families go ahead and go to the next slide mike our grant is good through there were some questions from the board in relation to how long our grant is good for our grant is in place until um we will need to reapply for the 2024 school year um so every year we reallocate the funds of the grant which expires june 30th of every year but it's a five-year grant so we'll reapply for the 2024 school year through this process um the state typically

audits you between that three to five year period so our audit was done on it was done back in november and we received our report the official report on new year's eve so there's 37 items that they review when they come into the district this year they did what was called a desk audit because they could not come into the buildings we had to be able to provide everything to them in like a google folder type format and so they requested all of the items and you could see through the list the types of things that they audited on and those are all those bullet points so things such as student files our staff to child ratio and i know that this is something that the board has often engaged in questions around whether or

not we have enough staff to support our pre-k program within the classrooms like in regards to aids and so i put that there that the requirement for pfa is that we have one adult to every 10 students in a typical school year we have three adults to our 18 students um within the classroom to to best support our inclusionary practices they also looked at made sure that we were compliant in the area of requirements for homeless children for our screening procedures making sure that students qualified and were eligible for the program weighted eligibility our session times making sure that we're compliant with holding at least a two and a half hour day um that our mission statement matched the work that we were doing that we used a research-based curriculum that we have snack mike

you can go ahead and move on they also look at that we use a research-based effect assessment practices that we have a transition plan meaning that we have a plan to transition students from the preschool program into the kindergarten setting that we have communication plans a community collaboration that all of our staff is licensed appropriately that we offer opportunities for parent and guardian involvement that we follow the procedures for our home language survey our english language proficiency screening that we do do program evaluations that we monitor and provide children with ieps the supports necessary and that we identify a weighted eligibility so that our most at risk students are provided the opportunity into the program first next slide please they also look at our recruitment strategies our social emotional model the physical activity that we

provide to students throughout the school day our staff and professional development and salaries that we have an instructional leader we have a parent educator parent engagement that we have myra who sits on our parent advisory council that we do parent education throughout the school year that we work through kindergarten transition enrolling students with special needs and that we have coordinated services for ieps and that's also the transition between ei and the pre-k program next slide please so i'm happy to say that the district met in all indicators as of january 20 of 21 we had one item that needed to be corrected and it was that we had a family in the program parents have to provide proof of income when they come into the program so that we can prove that they're eligible for

the program we had one family who did not prove proof of income because they didn't have income to prove which the state said we just needed to document but when we went through the compliance process they requested that we actually create a formal form and then through that formal form the parent could sign off that they are ensuring that they do not have any income to prove so we did create that form and we had that in place as of january 4th so immediately upon returning we had that form in place um and then the compliance officer did offer some notes in regards to our program and that we have a really strong implementation of a remote option for pre-k this is something that they really praised us for many districts were just providing a

matrix to families of different things that they could do with their kids at home our program took it a step further we were offering and still do offer a whole group lesson and then individual or small group lessons on top of that every day um and so they did praise us for that work that we were doing at the pre-k level um that we uh we have appropriate portfolio collections for all students so even in the face of remote learning we had portfolios and we were able to prove the learning that was happening within the classrooms and that we um we met all of the criteria and indicators with that income verification form and then all indicators um that they were requiring which is a huge success people who have been through audits know that

um the state typically finds numerous things and especially in a brand new program um there's things that you typically have to work on and refine and i'm really proud of our pre-k staff and the work that they put in and for us to have basically zero finding ups outside of creating a forum i think that that speaks volumes for the program um and the staff mike go ahead the next one i think that's it okay all right well let me first of all well done and it's terrific we were very excited nice well you should be any questions or comments about the pre-k grant the audit from any board members i i just want to say congratulations i think in a typical year it would be difficult and the fact that you achieved um such

great results in the in a year of so many pressures from the pandemic it's really really impressive and kudos to you and and all of the staff thank you for going above and beyond as always thank you very good yes others any other thoughts questions just a quick question it is so um oh congratulations i think it's pretty awesome that income verification the format the process is that something that now we can use going forward or do we have to go through the whole process again every time yeah it's just moving forward that we need to utilize that form so we put it in place you know they alerted us that they wanted a formal forum on new year's eve and on january 4th we began implementing that in the district and then moving forward

anybody who can't prove income would fill out that form um and that would ensure our compliance in the program very quickly probably see it across the state now you'll probably see it across the state now okay um uh others ted any questions nice nicely done thank you ted very good jason yeah just a shout out to the pre-k program it's a great program and you know it's good to see that you know these audit results come in just you know further cementing the work that's being done you know that that pfa program at pfa grant really expanded on that program and opened up a lot of different opportunities and i it when you think of our pre-k program you think of the three to five um year old kids that are that are in the

classroom um a lot of people don't realize that it really goes down to you know our birth to five and and it's a much bigger program than than what people think and and myra and her team really do a great job of reaching out and and reaching families that really need some additional assistance what have you in the work they do really should be acknowledged agreed very good very good julie i just echo all the thanks and congrats and um that everybody else said and i'm uh i'm super happy that we have this program in our district i think that's great thank you katie two quick things do you do the audit annually no it's typically every three to five years that they come so we're in the clear for at least three more years

okay that's good and at least for that one um that one yes might not be on cycle for pre-k or we completed our five-year compliance but something is always in the process of being audited and you know just to throw in in all honesty for them to have no findings or no suggestions is really um way bigger than i think most people can realize the auditors will typically tell you straight out it's their job to find things um so you know to get that kind of audit back for a very young program is is really a testament to just the details that have been thought out and addressed in a really short amount of time so um katie that's a huge celebration and and you know only people who have gone through the pain of

isbe audits knows what that means and looks like um but they really do come with the intentions of finding things and so um that's true congratulations you know just to everybody involved because that's huge very good well let me turn to our to student board members and see if they have any thoughts or questions i don't know how much you know about this grant or the program but let me ask miss ahmed any questions or comments for doctor mulsky not really just um that that's amazing that you got the grant and good job okay and miss noble any questions or comments from you not really i just would like to give a congratulations to everyone who was involved with developing the program and put in the work to it because that is really cool that

we were able to do the audit and pretty much pass with flying colors yeah thank you both maybe very cool should be in the designation when the audience i like it it's met very good all right great that's better than what than some of their some of the languages that they use some of the standards they use very cool would be much appreciated would be very good all right let's then move on uh next item on the agenda is a couple of donations and gifts that we're very grateful for uh may have a motion to formally accept these two extremely generous donations submitted to the second district discussion hearing none miss moak roll call please mrs buttimer yes mr estes yes mr guzman yes mrs hill yes mr lobock yes dr bruno yes and our

personnel report may have a motion to approve the recommendations resignations and resignations and retirements on the personnel report as presented second all right any discussion roll call mr loback yes sorry mr guzman yes mr estes yes mrs hill yes mrs buttimer yes dr bruno yes next item is to approve the amended calendar and declare the last day of school may have a motion to approve the revised 2021 regular 2021 school year calendar and designate the last day of school as presented any discussion roll call mrs milk mr guzman yes mr estes yes mrs hill yes mrs buttimer yes mr lobock yes dr bruno yes next item is to prove the memorandum of understanding with the glenellen education association live stream instruction may have a motion to approve the memorandum of understanding with the glen ellen

education association with respect to modification of the 2020 to 2022 teachers agreement regarding live stream instructed as instruction as presented any discussion roll call mr lobock yes mrs hill yes mr guzman yes mrs butter yes mr estes yes dr bruno yes thank you very much and we have a board governance item this is the second discussion and the continuation of the board's attempt to develop greater competency in diversity equity and inclusion and culturally responsive learning and we will turn to board member jess buttimer to facilitate a brief discussion on the next two chapters that board members have read yeah so um i shared my notes and they're on the board book if anybody wants to follow along with those but we're reviewing chapters three and four chapter three um i forget what it was called

but i wrote in my notes culture culture culture is complicated multifaceted and within within historical context all individuals have culture in chapter four teaching can and should be culturally responsive so um we can talk a little bit more about what those chapters covered but i just wanted to ask some basic questions of the board and have you share if there was a specific passage that struck you as significant either interesting profound amusing illuminating disturbing or that sad it all in any interesting book board members any responses to justice questions i know i have one or two but i'll defer julie any responses to that come on come on cultural modeling you like the section on the cultural model and why why was that the reason i like that is that it goes to the the

why of the whatever it may be whatever is being taught the why what's being taught so to figure out what the goal of that you want kids to learn it and teach it in a way that is modeled to different cultures so that the thought process comes out that you can teach it in a way you can teach the goal it doesn't have to have to be about a specific topic you can teach a goal in a variety of different managers in a variety of different subjects okay and what i liked about that was that the source of the knowledge is coming from the students that they're that that cultural experience that they themselves alone have is held in value and is to be shared and discussed and and they're bringing that to the classroom

and all students get to bring that and share it within the classroom and jess so that i think is a really good lead-in to an item that you addressed in your notes that's prominent in the in the reading that that i was attentive to and that is that there is this notion of what the author calls a a deficit-based theory somehow the student is lacking something and you advocate for changing the students knowledge language and and culture to somehow make it fit with mainstream something that's standardized and that that creates significant problems that get read as deficit as deficit uh based as opposed to as you'll as you got into uh talking about it the student actually brings a language and an experience in a culture into the classroom and the student can be the

the source of of insight uh and then when that student's given authorship or ownership or entitlement and then you no longer see the the student as in a deficit quite frankly so i thought that was a very important part of the reading one other thing that jumped out it was just one simple sentence but the author was challenging us not to think of cultural responsiveness as holding a uh you know holding a a special activity in which you address a person you know a a country's culture their flags their rituals their foods all that was good all that was necessary all that was welcoming but it's not sufficient it doesn't take the place of being really culturally responsive and it was just a simple line but he seemed to find that all schools did that

kind of easy stuff again which made you feel good which was important to do but it really didn't dig deep enough into making the kind of uh impacts that you want in a classroom so those two stood out for me anyone else i i'd like to follow up on that on page 59 there's something that they describe a big box problem and that's something that it kind of hits home a little bit because it says where individuals from various ethnic groups are viewed by the mainstream as homogeneous and in some cases you know people think that every hispanic or latin america that we all grew up on tacos and that is not true so uh and across the u.s of course you can apply that to stay to anything so and i think um the

reason why we're having this session is because it's a workshop right for us to learn something that we can apply to school and obviously you highlighted the part that i think that is more applicable so far which is the questions to understand in culture yeah and it's something that maybe we can socialize those with the teachers and give them some tools that they can use to understand culture not because it's mandated or because they have to do these things but because there's some really good questions here that without having to spend too much time or money they can actually start understanding better their students and their cultural backgrounds and how they can work with them so i think that's what i got the most out of these two two chapters up to this point i

was a little bit disappointed with the book because there's a lot of facts all over the place you know quotes from everybody it's like okay where's the where's the action and then finally in chapter five four and five he got to some specific examples of things that they've done um some of them obviously were not sustainable because they were expensive but i think there's some really good things in these two chapters that we can learn from and apply and i think that's the reason why we're doing this not just to talk about books yeah very good that's what i got out of it yeah no thank you and i just one of the things that i think there's kind there seems to be some misinformation in in some pockets of the community too that this

is like a forcing of cultures into the classroom coming from the students but it's it's more about the teacher being open and responsive to the cultures that the students themselves are bringing into the classroom and so i think that's a really important distinction to make because it's not like we're the the intention is to force feed certain cultures and certain ideas it's to value the ones that are bubbling up and having a teacher that can can um recognize that that is of value and adapt the teaching to it in a way which is certainly we have and i don't want to put you on the spot katie but i do know that there's already been a number of trainings that have happened so that teachers i think the whole staff has gone through some culturally

responsive training as well so some that stuff is sort of happening or is it exactly happening right you know and i think i agree with guillermo when you when you read you're trying to decipher all of the different information that they put in here but to me page 73 and 74 are really important because they do kind of break it down into really five pedagogical standards you know and when i read those um it is a great summary of of the things that teachers are taught need to be taught um and continually have reinforced because you know as you said yes it's not about force-feeding anything and it's not about um everybody needing the same thing this really comes on the heels of knowing for years and years and years that we've had what's been

referred to as achievement gaps but is it really opportunity gaps and that this is really intended to help us match the teaching and instruction um with what kids need so that they can all excel so um it isn't putting one over the other or the dominant culture it really is about using what kids bring to the table and their strengths and what they know to help them achieve and grow so i really felt i haven't finished yet but 73 and 74 to me were um you know all about building relationships and concrete things that teachers and staff members can do um without a tremendous amount of training although ongoing training is important um you know these are very very concrete things that they that they put forth in here good good ted well um so

far we've touched on quite a few things that i've already highlighted so i don't want to repeat anything but um one of the pieces that i found particularly interesting was on page 77 where they were talking about the gifted and talented education programs and those i'm not sure exactly the right word but the you know the goals that come from those that really shouldn't be unique to just gifted programs and um the belief that all students are capable learners is essential to culturally responsive teaching and then they talk about the goals for the gifted programs increasing high level proficiency in all core subject areas becoming independent investigators appreciating the world of ideas enhancing higher level thinking skills and encouraging the spirit of inquiry i mean to me that's then shouldn't be unique to just gifted

programs that that's wow that really jumped out to me yeah yeah what's funny in reading this in all honesty did i spend a lot of my time reading about you know special education different ability levels you could literally swap out race and culture for ability and it's the same kind of premise what you're saying there is but throughout the book honestly it's just basically whatever subgroups that you're talking about whatever marginalized groups you're talking about really fit into to about the different of the groups that you talk about in this book just before i give you a chance to just i'm assuming you're gonna you want to take a minute or two to summarize some i don't know how deeply you want to go into it but i feel like we did we did a

pretty good thing we did yeah i think we have but and i know our student board members haven't been reading along with us you're hearing a little bit of the conversation um and you're part of a community of students from different backgrounds if you want to if you have a thought or a comment you'd like to offer i'd i welcome the opportunity miss ahmed are there any thoughts or comments that you'd like or questions for the board for us to be thinking about well i do know at district 41 in almost all the schools actually all all of them that there is a lot of diversity and a lot of people in this community come from a lot of different places and backgrounds and you were talking about including more diversity and culture in schools

exactly how do you plan on doing that you know so that's the question that we're not going to answer tonight but good it's a good question that's where we want to go for sure and mr mitt how about yourself um so um being around people who come from a different background obviously i do too i am too um i don't think that a lot of people know much about their background either because not a lot of people are immigrants most of them are second generation americans or first-gen generation americans but in my old school uh we used to do a fair or like some presentation where we just learned about different um countries and different people in different cultures so i guess that's a way and it was um included in um social studies because

that is a study of the world so that's the way you can include it so it was right in the actual lesson it was something that it was in the lesson um but mostly it was kids who either researched countries or they did presentations about their own countries very good well we'll be further investigating we have a few more pages to read here don't we jess and then that just kind of started it and again as a reminder that when we get back into the new strategic plan we will have embedded in it and throughout the values of diversity equity and inclusion and we will be looking at our committee structure and uh the likely formation of a dei type committee to help guide the district so this is all leading towards some real practical

steps okay and is it okay if in the next workshop we do all three of the remaining chapters or would you like to have two more sessions i think we can what is the board what is the board's flavor i don't know i mean i think it's kind of ridiculous to ask us to read 44 pages when he asks us 350 last time [Laughter] yeah all right sounded like a yes in jason's typical way way to go counselor so we're good with completing the book all right thank you everyone thank you jess putting the time into the book i appreciate that that was a good it was a good choice of a book on a very needed topic so thank you jess all right we've got some upcoming meetings on the 26th there'll be a

regular board meeting and then on may 3rd we will have this special reorganizational board meeting and then may 10th will be the board workshop meeting and it will also include the new board orientation are there any items board members wish to suggest for a future meeting miss hill um wait when is the report being tweeted next meeting may 3rd is the special reorganizational meeting and then on may 10th is when there will be a new board orientation meeting so it will have to be after that but um the resolutions for the iasb conference are due i don't have the date but i just remember it's like june or july at some point sometime in the summer so if we could have a discussion of um i don't know a brainstorm or make a list or

whatever if other board members have ideas of resolutions they would like to submit um to the conference that would be helpful and then um whoever and i can work together to write it and figure all that out and i'm happy to do one or zero or more than one or whatever and we can talk about whether or not we want to re-submit the one we did last year from last year that'll be good yeah no that's that's very timely because it was well right okay that's a good idea very good this way we can have resolutions going forward if we desire to do so okay anything else i don't have a future but i just wanted to say thank you a a heartfelt thank you for the banned donation i don't feel like we got

there like we didn't do discussion so thank you we glossed over it so fast but that's just an it's an amazing gift and i appreciate it that the community has come forward to give back to the program like that and we were somewhat cryptic out of respect for the donors also yes right yes right okay it did please don't read into that that there was a deep appreciation um thank you okay the board has a need to adjourn the closed session may have a motion to adjourn to a closed session to confidentially discuss section 23 c1 the appointment employment compensation discipline performance or dismissal specific employees including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity and section 2c 10 the placement of individual students in special education programs and other

matters related to individual students motion second any discussion none mr milk roll call mrs buttimer yes mr estes yes mr guzman yes mrs hill yes mr lobock yes dr bruno yes the board will not be taking any action after the closed session
