Uh, now we'll move on to uh, Mrs. Coons would like to address the board concerning the EF educational tours. So, >> looks like the cheerleaders already left. >> Hi, GC board. My name is Terry Co. I'm a teacher at Kulage Junior High. Some of you have um, been a student of mine. Some of you have been co-workers. Uh so I've been in the district for quite a number of years. In 1994 uh during my first year of teaching at Kulage I was approached by two students to uh start a science club. So I volunteered the first year and proudly launched the first science club ever

at Kulage. From that moment on I understood how important extracurricular opportunities are in shaping a student's competence, cur curiosity and a sense of belonging. In 1999, I transferred to Griggsby where I started the first science club there. Um, in the total of of all my years teaching, I've been uh sponsoring the science club for 25 years. So, extracurriculars have really been near and dear to my heart. While at Griggsby, I was introduced to EF educational travel through another teacher. In 2006, I began planning my first trip for 2008 to London, Paris, and Rome. Over the past 18 years, with the board's support and approval, I have led nine EF tours um to some incredible destinations, traveling with more than 120 students and parents. Tonight, I respectfully request your approval for what would be my final

EF trip, 2028 tour to Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii. It'll also celebrate my May 2028 retirement. For two decades, I have been honored to provide students with meaningful global learning experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. These trips have created lifelong memories, broadened perspectives, and inspired students in ways that are difficult to measure but impossible to forget. If you would ever like to discuss these experiences in greater detail, I would be more than happy to share photos and stories that reflect these extraordinary impact these travel opportunities have had on our students and on me personally. Thank you for your consideration tonight for my last EF trip um and your support over the last 20 years of all of my EF trips that I have taken. Thank you very much. >> Thank you. >> Now we'll

move on to Mr. Hutchkins for a CTE programs of study and future of the CTE program. Okay. Thank you for giving uh us at GCHS an opportunity to come and speak to you about our career techn technology education program. With the upcoming retirements at the high school, we have an opportunity be opportunity to be proactive in our CT programming planning. We are looking to move toward a connected experience and class choices that have aligned coursework, industry recognized certifications, dual credit opportunities, and strong workforce partnerships. Over the next three and a half or three to five years, we can strategically expand our program in a way that aligns to workforce needs. fiscal responsibility and centered on student outcomes. Our focus will be on four areas: programs of study, strategic facility upgrades, the building trades house, and

swick partnerships. First, regarding programs of study, currently our electives function independently. So students can take a class but that doesn't mean that they are on a specific path with that class. With programs of study, we would like to make a shift for intentional uh make the shift intentional where we would organize our programs using the program of study model. This is not reinventing the wheel. It's a structure framework used statewide and nationally. The program works to create a clear sequence of learning, connect students to clubs or sports that support the pathway, build skills, and maximize dual credit and certification opportunities. This is an example of what the program of study would look like. And the plan would be that we would start this conversation in the eighth grade. So when we go talk to the

eighth grade students about coming to the high school, we'll talk to them about the different programs of study. Now if you see this will map out all four years that a student would be in high school. On the left or the center left, we have the required courses for graduation. The next column are class considerations. And so these are the classes that we would recommend that correlate with that program of study. Up in the right corner, we have the related clubs and activities that would go along with this program. We also have the related careers that the students could work toward after high school or after postsecary education. And then finally, if we have students that are planning to go to college, then we have the recommended college path that we would re that the

students would use as they go through high school. Now the programs of study uh there are many that we can develop and these are just a few of the examples. So we have quite a few in the skilled trades, business and technology, fine arts, education, health sciences. We're also looking at possible future expansions that could in incorporate the military, uh, HVAC, industrial maintenance, and then we have a few other courses or programs that we could create. We have them on the books. We just don't currently have the teaching staff for them. Next, we'll look at the strategic facility improvements that would go along with updating our programs. This is where CTE, the CTE funding becomes a strategic lever to help us improve our program by updating courses, modernizing facilities um that can help increase student

confidence and competence. First, we will continue to modernize our business technology spaces. We've already upgraded three of our four business classes with new computers and systems. And so we'd like to continue next year by upgrading our fourth classroom so that way those classes have the most up-to-date programming uh possible to achieve their goals. We would then like to develop an industrial maintenance lab. By doing this, we have we already have a lab. We just need to update. So we need to move it away from um focusing on residential to more of the industrial maintenance. In the future, we would like to look at expanding our skilled trade instruction to include HVAC. This is one of the most popular local programs at Swick and it has a high demand of jobs after schooling. And then finally,

we'd like to increase the business program capacity because this field is always growing. Technology is always changing and we've got to stay upto-date with those changes. When students walk into these programs, they should feel like they are stepping into their future workplace. Next, we need to talk about our home building program. This has been a source of pride for the district and community and is a clear symbol of what career education can accomplish. The question is not whether the program has value because it clearly does. The question becomes, can we find someone with the strong leadership and skills of our current teacher, Mr. John Buchard. We have three options that we are looking at for the future. The first is to hire a qualified homebuild instructor. This is what we want to do, but it

does come with challenges, most of which is finding a qualified candidate that can come in and continue the program. The second option is a collaborative instruction model, and this is where we would have a staff member oversee the build, but we would use multiple classes and teachers to contribute to building that the home. And then our final option would be to pause the homebuild program until we are able to safely and responsibly restart it in the future. As we consider the future of the home build program, our decision must be grounded in safety and responsibility. Now the final strategy is based on our connection with SWIC. This approach lets us focus on our in-house investments and leveraging our regional resources. Expanding the certification programs can help students graduate workforce ready or allow us to put

them directly into a job before graduation. Not every student's path is the same, and that's okay. This will help students that may not have the means to continue their education after high school and become economically independent. The plan is to modernize our CTE program by improving our facilities, expanding our SWIC partnerships, aligning our staffing, and moving the structured program of study. Our goal is simple. When students leave Granite City High School, they leave with confidence, options, and real world readiness. So, thank you very much. Does anyone have any questions about any of our CTE programs or anything? Question. I can see it in your face. No. Okay. >> Nope. Thank you very much. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Hutchkins. >> All right. It looks like everybody who is going to leave

took their opportunity already, so I'm not going to have to say that. So, uh, all right.
