Make sure Mike's ready to go before you. >> Are you ready, Mike? >> Okay. Can I get a motion to reconvene the committee of the whole meeting of the proviso Township High School Board of Education? >> So moved. Second. >> Miss Malinero, please call the RO. Miss Malino, I. Mrs. Ziggson. >> Hi, >> Mr. Okapo. >> Hi, >> Miss Morris. >> Hi, >> Dr. Fischer. >> Hi, >> Miss Barbberham. >> I >> Miss Smith, >> I. Motion carries. >> Can we please stand for the pledge of allegiance? I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> At this time, the board of education opens the floor to public comments. The board will receive
public comment from any individuals present this evening and have submitted a request to address the board per the established procedures. Comments will be limited to 3 minutes in accordance with board policy 2 230. We believe that all participants in the meeting desire the best outcomes for our students, families, and communities. As a reminder, this meeting is being livereamed and will also be archived and available on the district website. There are no public comments at this time. >> All right, we will proceed to updates. >> Yep. We'll hear from Dr. Alvarez on our operations updates. >> Good evening, Bor. >> Good evening, everyone. >> Um, I'm here to present the U program from JGMA. I'm going to start with saying that this year is they're looking forward for by June 1st. This uh program has gone
through some phases. Um they have truly started actually starting off with our uh town hall that happened back in October taking the input from there. Um and so you will see in front of you what the program looks like. It'll show the sports fields and courts, sport buildings and structures, circulation and support, outdoor spaces. On the right hand side, you'll see the quantity of how many. So, if you're looking for tennis courts, it shows 10. If you're looking for adaptable baseball and softball fields, it shows four. And then the um notes on the side will give you a little bit more information as well, too. Um but as I was mentioning, it has gone through some phases. So I I mentioned the town hall. I've um they've also taken input um from when they came
and spoke to us in general. They then had a meeting with principal Christian um where they they got some more input and also with Mr. Pales from West. Um then they had a meeting with all of the staff at West and took some input there from them. Um he had asked for um any students. So, uh, principal Christian sent in the student council to meet with him and some any other students that wanted to meet with him, uh, where he also said that there's an availability for internship for architecture. So, um, we have some that are happening there. And then he met with um, Mr. Mohip, with Mr. Shelby, uh, Dr. Walker, Dr. Hill. Um, and this is now what you see in front of you that came out of it. And I I want
to mention that they spoke about various sports. So some sports that probably weren't mentioned before was like golf, um shutput, strike training, um things that you may not think about that was brought to their attention through these conversations. So I wanted to make sure I put that out there for you to see the program as they have it right now. This is the time now if you need to see any changes. This is an easy fix cuz it's on a paper. before we start breaking ground. Um so if there's anything that you're seeing like wait a minute here um otherwise they are looking to get it approval by June 1st. Any questions regarding the program? >> I have one. Yes. >> Were there any conversations about solar or geothermal? >> There was about solar in
in regards to certain areas that we could use it. There was also the conversation of having like a dome over one of the um the fields uh for indoor use, but then we started talking about we would have to get our custodians up to date and how to care for that. Um because it does take some wear and tear with the weather, >> the dome or the >> the dome itself. >> Yeah. >> Mhm. >> Um >> but yes, there was >> Okay. Yeah, because I know Oak Park uh River Forest just did geothermal underneath their football field. Um so that is also another option potentially I think um to mitigate cost in the long term. >> Absolutely. >> So I just want to make sure that we're thinking about that. >> Yeah. >> Thank
you. Mhm. >> Not all of the walking paths will be some kind of permeable surfaces or are those just >> That's a good question. Um, hold on to that question because on June 9th they're coming to present to the board and that question as well as bringing up the solar they will be able to answer that a little bit more about what those walkways would look like. >> Okay. Thank you. Mhm. >> Will they have like a sketch like something a little more like concrete? >> Yeah. I mean, they they kind of showed you before, but they're making tweets um as we go along. So, they'd be able to show you that. >> Okay. Are would things like water fountains be included on this? >> Because I don't see any and >> water fountains. >>
Yeah. Cuz there's walking paths and all these studios and all the >> I'll let them know that. Yeah, >> they might be watching right now. >> Okay, >> if you're watching, >> yes, >> Water fountains. Yes, >> that's a good idea. >> Something to think about. >> I would think likely your baseball complex where we're looking at that that four quads and concession stands like >> likely we would have facilities there. >> They spoke about storage as well. Um making sure that there's storage for equipment. Um, but I do remember her talking about using water bottles. >> This must seem like it's like the big stuff and then we fill in little minor details like as we progress. >> Yeah. Correct. >> Okay. >> And then getting an understanding of what >> cost is for
some of those little things you might not >> That's what I was thinking because it's quite the huge plot of land. >> Correct. Dr. Alvarez, when will the um RFP be going out for the builder? >> So, they're they're um working on that right now because most likely it's going to be either done by them or we could get an outside person, but they are working on it right now so we could get that going as quickly as possible. Um we do want to break ground sometime in December of 2026. >> Are we on schedule? cuz I >> as of right now. Yes. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> That's why these deadlines with June 1st and then we kick to those schedules and we'll be okay. >> Perfect. >> I don't see anything about parking.
Did I miss something? >> Oh, it's under circulation and support. >> Okay, there we go. >> Yep. Okay. >> They are going to do a traffic stud. >> Okay. And there's a storm water management there too. >> Yeah. >> But I wanted to make sure that you see the quantity as well. This is based on the input they were getting from everyone. >> Did we add We couldn't add golf, could we? Is there a golf something? >> It's golf practice course. So like putting >> and that's on here. >> Yes, it's the last one on the top. Sports fields and ports. >> No, >> I see a different version. >> It's so sports fields and ports. Do you guys have >> you have a different one? >> 2026 521 version. Top right. >> 54. >>
I will get you this one. I I had made copies, but >> that's okay. That's okay. I just I just remember hearing golf and I was like, I don't mind. >> It could be my my eyes. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Who else needs one? >> I saw it. >> So, that came out in conversation last >> Yeah. I love that different things >> sports. We weren't Excellent. >> And then we also talked about building services. So you could have say basketball and volleyball >> on the same courts. >> Yep. >> So just trying to think about all the different activities and sports >> multiatile multiuse fields. Yeah. >> Awesome. Barb. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Are there any other questions? >> All right. Thank you. >> Thank you. Good evening. >> Good evening. >> Warn
information item. This is our standard Adobe K12 renewal. Um so what that is is the Adobe suite we provide to all students and staff across the district. Um so last year I just pulled it up. We paid um 27,000 uh $4.91 a user and it's only gone up to $493. So uh we're working with them really closely because there's been a lot of software increases. So it's only gone up I want to say about $115. Um so year over year that's great for software. So I'm just looking to do this renewal through GHA and um again standard standard renewal. Any questions? Do we have usage statistics on this? Like I'm thinking like Canva, right? Like that's >> Yeah. So we I'm working with Mr. Mov um we are we did deploy a new tool basically
that's going to be sitting on all the students laptops to really evaluate the data usage because um I've reached out to Adobe and they say we don't provide usage statistic because they know >> they know hey oh looks like only you know 10% of your kids are using that well then why would you renew for all them? So we'll have more more of that detailed data um for not just Adobe but for all the platforms across the district. So I have reached out and I said hey can you give me just a you even just a basic user count of who's logged in and they're like no you license them and that's on you. So, with this new um dashboard that we've been working on, we'll get a really dive into um you know, how
many kids are actually using it. And then you can look at um what I've done in other districts, what's an opportunity is you could look at just the kids who are rostered in art classes and you could take down that usage to and then just say we only roster based on kids who take XYZ courses. So, you could really cut down the cost that way. Um we haven't had uh that kind of discussion yet but definitely something we'll be able to look at with the new data dashboard. >> Um academically do we have quite a few classes that would actually utilize this a very specific program Adobe for certain things more for the creative. So, do we actually have the classes that's actually teaching it? Because it's definitely a great skill for the students to
have. >> Provide an update for you. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And and kind of just to that point on the teacher side, I would say it's pretty heavily used for PDF, signing, all that sort of stuff, editing. Student side, um, we do see quite a few. I would say PMSA where I'm at the most. Um, I see a lot of kids using it because it's, hey, it's cool. I can put Photoshop on my laptop and start to use it. Um, so like our classes and stuff, I know we'll get you that information um to kind of break it down of who who actually requires it versus, you know, the usage. >> I've seen it in use from a parent perspective and I appreciate any other questions. >> All right. So, we'll get some we'll get
those answers to you an update coming weeks and we'll see. >> Thank you. Good evening board. Uh tonight we're presenting uh the renewal of the district's partnership uh with Merit School of Music for the 26 to 27 school year uh in support of the music program at Proviso Math and Science Academy. PMSA has partnered with Merit since it's uh since 2005. This partnership continues to provide students with access to high quality instrumental and music instruction, performance opportunities, instruments, and instructional materials. Uh through this agreement, students will continue to participate through programs such as our different fan programs that we're offering. Uh we saw some commencement uh as well uh over the weekend that our students also performed in. In addition to instructional services, Merritt continues to provide significant support uh through instrument access, maintenance, repairs,
and they did in the quote that you'll see uh have a $15,000 grantf funded instrument support uh dedicated specifically to PMSA students. Uh this is an ongoing partnership that we use and value. Participation in the music program as a as a former band uh kid myself supports uh student creativity, collaboration, discipline, leadership, and engagement while also contributing to a well-rounded educational experience. The total cost is coming at $63,455, which is which is a slight reduction from the prior year. I can get that exact dollar amount, but I did know it was a reduction from uh this to next year. I know that I probably ask the same question every year, but while I know the answer, maybe you could provide for us in the community watching of why PMSA has the private merit school coming
in separate than how East and West is set up with um full-time banding structures. >> Yeah. uh for the number of sections that we've been offering with this. So, we have our choir teacher and the number of sections require that that full-time employee where we just don't have that full need for a full-time employee. And this has been a perfect partnership and one that we we've used and would like to continue to use. Just wasn't physically sound to to bring on FT and have that insurance cost and not have the number of sections that would demand a full uh full full-time teacher. >> Thank you. Appreciate it. Any questions? All right. Next is our test nav. So this is a a proposed uh contract with uh ACTA test NAV for the 26 27 school year.
This proposal would transition us from what we utilized this year for our ACT preparation which was a company called Cambridge. Uh and just being honest uh with the board, this was something available last year, but as ACT was making that switch, we just weren't ready to utilize the state system because sometimes there are some things that need to be figured out and adjusted uh as the state is switching platforms. So, we just weren't quite ready to utilize them for last year, but uh now uh are prepared to bring this recommendation to the board. Uh it's important because it provides students and staff with an authentic testing experience using that same platform, same tools, navigation, different accommodations and testing workflows uh that students will encounter and our adults as well during the official state assessment by
practicing the actual testing environment. Students will become more familiar and in theory comfortable with that system prior to the actual test day on the official test day in April. Uh operationally, the transition also streamlines roster management, staff training, troubleshooting, and test administration procedures by reducing reliance on just multiple third party programs. So this estimated annual cost is coming at $67,140. And this would be all for our freshman, sophomore, juniors, and any additional senior that is is rostered to test. Uh that was how we came up with that approximate cost. It's I think $19 per student uh to utilize not only the testing platform and deliver the test and then get the feedback on how our students are doing. >> So this will help um address the the technical issues we were experiencing. >> That was
my question. Yeah, we we did we did have a a technical issue which caused us to have to uh change the testing day of our and software test and yes, ideally because it's the same plat platform and everything will be the same as that actual test today. Yes, ms. I'll actually yield my time to a group of teachers from the credit recovery task force who would like to present to about our work and their recommendation for standard operating procedures for credit recovery in the district. >> Awesome. Thank you. >> Good evening board. I'm Kurt Wolf Clemer. I teach math at provisor math and science academy. >> Good evening. Amen. >> Carissa Gillespie, English, Provis West, >> SH Winfield, CTE/ Business Ed. Thank you. >> Amy Pace, college and career counselor, PMSA. >> Uh so we
have many members on our task force. The ones uh bolded and starred are here today presenting. Uh so this was a joint effort by uh all the schools uh to get uh to get the everybody on the same page. Um some of the current issues we have students have no deadline to finish credit recovery um besides graduation. Students wait until the last minute and try and get all their credit recovery done. Students believe that online credit recovery courses require less work than traditional classes. there uh there are some academic integrity issues. Uh the programs previously was offered with a cost uh continue to offer it for free creates additional costs in the district. Paying for these courses puts a financial responsibly back on the families now in the district. And then each uh each building
or program utilizes the credit cover course uh vastly different ways. Uh this allows the district to set uh a criteria that should be used and consistent between uh all the schools. Um so we had uh I believe 10 different things that we looked at. The first part was students that are eligible for credit recovery. Online credit recovery uh limited to students where they fail. It'll be only offered uh during the school year for 10th through 12th graders. Uh placement requires counselor recommendations. they must uh ret maintain the 80% attendance uh to the regular school uh scheduled classes and then east way east west and PMSA students may take a maximum of two credit uh two credits per year. So that would be four classes that they could make up during the school year. Um uh
courses will uh start and end in the the same school year. Currently Mar we're having issues where I've got kids that haven't uh made progress in a year in their course and we need to put a deadline in there make them more accountable. Uh courses must begin within within uh with at least 6 weeks remaining in the semester. That way they're not scrambling to do at the last minute. Oh, let me put this in there. Uh they may do one one credit hour or two classes per semester. uh only one pred class may be taken at a time and then students p uh progress will be monitored regularly. um grading. A big change will be will be pass fail. Instead of getting the grade changed to um A, B or C, putting in then a
grade uh which would then affect the GPA. Putting it as pass fail would not affect the student's GPA. Uh they would still have the F on the transcript and now they would currently be where they get a B in the class and that would affect their GPA. And then the original credit will stay on their transcript and then it'll be denoted credit recovery. And then uh cost be $125 per half credit. Uh funds uh they must pay before the class is uh started. Um alternative school programs might have a different fee structure. And if a student does not complete a course by the end of the semester, they must rep retake it and repay again. >> And no refunds. >> No refunds if the course is not completed. >> I have just a question on
that. >> Yeah. And then the notification to parents that this is being assigned is going out because I personally experienced where my daughter was assigned a credit recovery and nobody told me until it was a week due. So I think if we're going to charge for it, we have to make sure that our communication with our parents and even some kind of contract that they sign that they know this is happening. They know what the expectations are. I would also take that into consideration. Would they know when they pay? >> So, you could >> Well, yeah, but I mean they have to be notified that it's like needed. >> So, one of the things that with this task force and I don't like going to meetings, but these were actually meetings I was very excited
about going to because I really do think that online courses are not going anywhere. So, we need to um get on board and make sure that we have policies and procedures in place. Um when we first started credit recovery um parents actually had to register their students. They had to actually sign for them to be registered and that was all with the payment um around COVIDish times the payment was removed and so when that happened now it's just like an it's just open where you know without payment they're dropping them in there and then that kind of made the parent notification lax. So, one of the things that the task force talked about was making sure that parents were informed, counselors, teachers, everybody's informed to kind of fill that gap. Not just, you know, financially,
but making sure that parents understood that this is an investment that your student needs. You're going to pay this this money, which we've always charged for credit recovery. And we've kept the cost, even with coming back to the student program, the cost has been kept pretty low. We started I think I've been doing credit recovery since it was Apex. It was $100. So now we're looking at $125 per course. >> So just wanted to give some insight on that. >> Yeah. The only thing I was going to add with the new program once the kids are enrolled it's going to back talk into powers school. So that'll be a nice way to see that to see the progress with the new program we're going with. That seems to be the a very nice feature that
was I think selling a lot of us that were on the program. I was like, hey, if they can if there's what they're selling us is true, then it's going to be a lot easier on everybody that's involved. >> I think a question about the grading. So the idea or how it has been done historically is that the grade would change from an F to a B and so that or okay >> they have both the F and the B on the transcript. >> Okay. And now we're just going to leave the F >> and pass or fail. Yes. Correct. >> Okay. And then when you're saying that it changes the GPA, so it was giving them a better GPA or or >> it will not change the GPA. >> What was the past? It
would change their their GPA being that both would count >> for for the better. >> Yes. >> Got it. >> So I know >> that makes sense. >> Teachers were having struggle if they think the kid was not >> if I give them a D that'll affect their GPA more than if they get an A or B doing credit recovery and the F. >> You think about it that way is where teachers were done. Well, >> did they earn that D? And I know teachers were personally having that struggle like are they going to do something unacademically integrity-wise where it's not worth their time. That's where it was that that's where I know when I was talking to other teachers about this committee. They're like that was one of the big things that a lot
of teachers are excited about is the idea of the past fail where it doesn't affect and then does it take that like kind of I don't want to say a burden but like then the F still means something in their grade book in their transcript. >> Yep. >> I do like that. That's kind of MITish as well. I like that. >> That's more fair. >> Okay. So approved programs and platform use. So one of the things even though we say one for Bazo our our current program is being used many different ways by each building. So one of the great things we all agreed upon was that the district this will be kind of top down and setting the procedure so that we're all operating kind of the same way. Um the district will maintain
a list of approved programs and facilitators. um all programs, no matter what program is using um the online platform will follow districtwide SOP and reporting requirements. So that way the data is consistent. Um program specific variations will require superintendent approval. So things like we have students even though we will be using um you know the school Chromebooks and school issued, we do have students that have may have IEPs that say they need other devices. So again, um I think having that that superintendent approval is also a great piece. Holds everyone accountable. Only certified facilitators may access and manage courses. That's great because um in the past we've had um non-certified uh staff um handling these courses. And so when it comes down to the teacher of record, at least we know going into this format,
the teacher of record will be that approved facilitator and be responsible for monitoring, grading, and such. Um, oversight and ethics and accountability. I love that word. Um, each student will be assigned one certified facilitator and administrator. So that's basically it's just a fancy way of saying they will get a certified staff person, teacher, um however the breakdown is depending on the number of students that sign up and then the building administrator is you know that go-to person. Uh go guardian or similar moni monitoring software will be used. um academic integrity is required for all coursework and that's extremely important because in this age of AI and chat GPT um we find a lot of students you know they they just do some untruths on their assignments and so when we go back to the past
fail kind of keeps it you know the playing field fair all test and quizzes must be completed during credit recovery time in front of a facilitator. So again, we've got that accountability and integrity piece. Uh violations may result in discipline action and or removal from the course and that is also something that will be stressed to students and parents um entering this uh agreement and coursework must be completed on schoolisssued device. Again, we have students that have IEPs or require other uh technology and so we take that into account. But the expectation is that all coursework will be performed um on these school issued devices so that we have those kind of filters and monitoring um apps set up for the facilitators. >> Question for the violations may result in disciplinary action or removal from
the course. Will the verbiage be in there that they do not get a refund? >> Yes. >> Do they have to give Okay. Yes, we are going. The one thing about this task force team, we kind of nitpicked everything. Um, and it was great to have all these different voices and all these different experiences so that if you know one school or one facilitator may not have had a problem with it, but it may be a problem someplace else. So, those are things that we truly looked at and talked about making sure parents were aware, making sure of the financial responsibility of it, making sure that this is not taken for granted. Um, credit recovery is a privilege. It's a privilege that we're giving you to make up these credits and we want them to
treat it as such. >> Question for the um, credit recovery must be uh, recovery time in front of the facilitator. Will there be flexibility in like evening and weekends for students because they've already got their coursework and their day pretty full? How would that >> So, this So, I'm I'm going to speak to what we've been doing at West. um we had major issues with um accountability and just everything all over the place. And one thing I will um thank uh Mr. Christian, Miss Profield for our putting some structures in place for credit recovery provisal. We did have mandatory parent meetings um with everything outlined. We did make our students come mandatory twice a week and on Saturdays. You had to attend at least one Saturday a month until your course was completed. It was,
you know, hardgoing because these students have been used to doing it on their own 2 and 3 in the morning. But they got on the bandwagon and we I believe we move not just push students through, but actually were able to if they were having problems, there's a facilitator and a teacher there for you 4 days a week and on Saturdays to help you if you need help in math, if you need help with English. um the way we approached some of our academic integrity issues, if we saw that a student was, you know, cheating or we would take them off of the program and print it out and now you have to do the paper. You have to do it by hand. >> So, you know, and when they when they saw that we
were serious about this, they got on board and we didn't have as many issues as before. >> I appreciate that. >> Mhm. Okay. And then accommodations again and access. Students with IEPs and 504 plans receive documented accommodations. Multil- language uh multilingual I'm sorry, learners receive appropriate language supports. And again, something we are all um very very serious about. Students will not be enrolled if proper supports cannot be provided because we don't want to just throw students on an online program. Online programs are not easy, but we still want to make sure that if that is the choice of a student and a parent that the supports that they need will be in place for them to be successful on. So, program monitoring and continuous improvement. The district um will conduct annual reviews of program outcomes.
Uh review reviews will include enrollment, completion rates, credit attainment, um findings and form policy updates and program improvements. Again, I think this is something great that is presented so that you know when we're looking at these dollar amounts, you know that you our students in our district are getting, you know, the most for their buck. And the task force will continue meeting through the initial stages of implementation to support the success. And all the teachers that participated in this, I can honestly say we're very excited about the fact that um the district wants to jump in and say, "Hey, let's do this right." It's something we need to have for our students. It's something we, you know, can't avoid. So, let's make sure we're doing it right. We're doing it with accountability and integrity. Uh,
program delivery. Students must attend inerson credit recovery at least twice a week. All assessments must be supervised by a certified facilitator and students may only take one class at a time. And again, it's not to overwhelm the students. We had situations where we would have students like six or seven classes at one time in addition to their regularly scheduled classes. So one class at a time it doesn't overwhelm them and then we can monitor them better. And then um again uh alternative programs may follow different procedures depending upon what that program is and what those programs needs are. Any questions? question followup questions or >> do we have a an AI checker of some kind like it like a program? I know in our college we have something but >> we have some but some
are it depends on how active ituity currently has one. I believe we're paying for what's the English >> the AI checker though >> no I know >> which one >> I mean every pretty much every program we have has some sort of like integrity checker in it okay >> um it's about the consistency of it um it's also about >> across the board so I mean we have to monitor the screens but I'll be perfectly honest with you and Mr. Swanson is, you know, the tech person. These kids are faster than us. >> They're faster than us. So, the main thing is not just having, you know, a program in place to like monitor it, but also having um a facilitator there that will sit there and, >> you know, actually look at the work
that they are doing. >> Got it. >> So, it's kind of twofold. >> Yes. >> Or I've had it before where like the kid writes something then puts it into Grammarly and like helps them refix it and then AI is coming out with that one. So, by having them in seat, that'll then help with that situation because it's like, "Oh, it says it's it's 15% plagiarized. Okay, what'd you do to this one?" And then you find out that you're like, "Okay, that makes more sense." All right. And then otherwise, you're sitting there going, "Okay, it's 15%. What does that mean completely?" >> Yeah. And I know Word has in the editor feature, they have like check sources for similarities. I don't know how good that is, but it's another option that they can use to
see. Go Guardian's been the biggest help when we're doing it is I'm like, "Hey, you're on go. We're on GoG Guardian." And how many of them just kind of sit there and you can see a little different posture when they're they know they they're being watched. >> Y awesome. >> This is very exciting. >> We're very excited. >> Thank you for all the work you guys did. >> Yes. >> Thank you. Um, as you've seen and heard from our teachers, uh, it was a really collaborative effort and I cannot thank not only these four individuals but all of the teachers who participated uh, in the task force. We went through all of the work to select subject and bring that to you. We're so grateful you approved that. Uh, that implementation is going really well.
we're going to be able to start using it for summer school and then with this added layer of much more standardized procedures. I think we'll be um in a much better pos position um to offer a credit recovery that really um has integrity and prioritizes learning and it also reinforces the value of what we offer each and every day every teacher in their classroom delivering instruction to students. So, um I'll now move to the second uh school improvement item. This is a just an update, a preview of something uh to come your way. Um we've been having some conversations recently with teachers, social studies department chairs, members of the proviso teachers union specifically about the separate requirement that we have to pass an examination on you can see it here. patriotism, principles of government, proper
use and display of the flag is commonly referred to as the constitution test. Um, and what we've heard from teachers is that that actually the civics course that is required really goes into great depth and detail uh and is really a better assessment of the extent to which students have really mastered this content. And so it is a more rigorous and fairer assessment of whether a student really knows the material that the state co that the state code says that they should know is to look at the grade for that course. And so through conversations um we sort of all agreed that that made some sense and called Bisby to double check. Isby said yes. Uh it's up to the local district to determine what constitutes that. um the examination and it can be a
paper, it can be a project, it can be a series of examinations. Um and so uh that's why we're proposing to bring to you um uh a little adjustment in board policy 6300 coming to you. Um this would be not set for approval until the July board meeting. Um and that was the recommendation of this day to just solidify it in policy. Any questions? How many civic courses do they have to have in order to graduate? Is it just one? >> It's a It's one course. It's half a credit. >> Okay. And that's offered senior year. >> It's offered sophomore year, but some students do take it senior year to make space for uh I think an extra AP course or an extra math class in the sophomore year. That's primarily happens at PMSA. Sometimes
this requirement is also met uh with AP government and AP government also requires satisfactory demonstration of all these topics. >> Okay, that's great. I would love to see interactive projects. >> Note it. >> And the AP civics course is I think a fabulous course um which is really helpful in setting these kids up with like government and civic like it's just it's a really great course. >> I wish I wish we required more specific. >> Yes. Well, that's why I like over a te like tests are tests, but like a project of some kind where you could present. >> My only recommendation is when it's constitution test day, don't make it bring your parent to school day. I I had to retake the constitution test to get out of the building. Bring your parent. >>
That's actually pretty fun. >> It was I passed. So, I was excited. >> So, we'll be bringing to you an updated policy. >> Thank you. Perfect. Uh and then moving moving to the next item. This is just all of these items have been presented to you in the past. They will be coming to the board meeting on June 9th for approval. I will work with the board president to figure out which one. Um but if there are any questions on these before the working also obviously we will set reminders in the next weekly update just to refresh all of you and if you have any question are there any questions at this time right moving on to improvements and so as we just as a reminder uh this is something we looked simply at we
went out to an RFP collected these responses. We went out into the community and also, you know, encourage as we are allowed to under an RFP process for others to to let people know about this and to try and, you know, draw up more participation in the RFP process. Um, as we were going through the scoring and we taking direction from the board, we added people to the scoring committee that had experience with um with both of these programs and working with um in these areas with that reflect the needs of our students and and students itself. And so we also did visits to these locations. So the recommendation we're making for TROI comes after all of that work. Um, and Dr. office here if you would like to ask any questions about process or
anything about how we arrived at making this recommendation. >> Uh, Vice President Smith, did you have your um person? >> Uh, okay. >> Yes. >> So, and this was their recommendation. >> Yes, it was her recommendation. Okay. >> Um, and I just want to thank Mr. president for recommending that we get an expert because I think that was definitely needed um um and very helpful in this process. Dr. Ash, >> yeah, I would agree. Yeah, she had great wealth of knowledge and expertise and questions added to the discussion that were very helpful. >> Awesome. >> So, thank you both. Yeah. >> And thank you to you guys for visiting each facility. I mean it took time um to go out and visit each one of those facilities and when you visited that you have the
opportunity to see the area which our students will actually >> be learning class. >> Yes. >> That's pretty cool. >> Okay. >> Any questions? >> Uh where are they located? >> So this location is uh close to O'Hare. Um, don't know the the neighborhood specifically. >> Heights. >> Harwood Heights. >> Oh, Harwood Heights. >> How would they get there? How does that work? >> Plus, we bust them. >> Yeah, it was about I think when we looked at the time, it was between 15 and 20 minutes with >> Oh, that's not bad. >> Okay. >> And how many I know you mentioned this before, but how many students would do we typically have for the cosmetology and how many do we typically have for Barbara? >> Yes. So this this particular RFP asked for 15.
>> So we're looking at 15 new students entering the year one program in both cosmetology and barber. Uh for our year two students, we have four I get two mixed up. I believe it's four in barber continuing and seven in cosmetology uh continuing. So that that uh estimate estimated cost is factored in. Uh so those returning students, they'd uh honor the hours and everything that they've done in that year one and then continue with year two with this this new benefit. >> Thank you. >> Okay. May I have a may I have a motion to approve the cosmetology program contract for 2026 through 2027 and 2027 to 2028 school years with your culture university um as presented. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Us molino please call the role. >> Ms. Molina I. >> Ms.
Hixon >> I. >> Mr. Okmpo >> I. >> Miss Morris >> I. >> Dr. Fischer. >> I, >> Miss Barbberham. >> I, >> Miss Smith, >> I. Motion carries. >> May I have a motion to approve the Barber program contract for 2026, 2027, and 2027 to 2028 school years, which will go to university as presented. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Ms. Molano. I, Mrs. Dixon. >> I, >> Mr. Okmpo. Hi, >> Miss Morris. >> I >> Dr. Fischer. >> Hi, >> Miss Barbham. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Miss Smith. >> I motion carried. >> Okay. May I have a motion to approve the May 26, 2026 personnel report, including the hiring, assignments, resignation, separation, stipen positions, and leaves of absences. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Miss Malo, please call the role. Ms. Molinro. I
>> Mrs. Hixon. >> I >> Mr. Okmpo. >> Hi, >> Miss Morris. >> I >> Dr. Fischer, >> I >> Miss Barbham, >> I, >> Miss Smith, >> I. >> Motion carried. >> Any old business? >> New business. I have one thing to move our board meetings to start at 6:00 p.m. >> The board or the cow? Uh the Cal's already at six the board meeting for the board >> discussion. >> I would like to just be considerate of the staff and the admin. I know that they have long days and then the board meetings kind of push that into I would >> longer evenings. >> I would make a recommendation if we're starting at 6, we continue to have the board meeting continue still start at 7:30 to shorten our executive session. shorten close
session so that it stays home. I think it's fair. I just know that you guys are in school all day, right? Like from 600 7 in the morning and I know that that pushes that into a longer day, but I just want to Well, I'm for the 6 p.m. I mean, you're the president and if you're having problems getting here at 5:30, we're going to be sitting around waiting. So, let's just move it to six. And I understand everybody has a busy schedule and a busy life, but we have >> I just wanted to take that into consideration. I'm fine with >> And do we need to vote on that? >> No, we don't need to vote on it >> because we already approved the calendar. >> We did already approve the calendar. I'll check
to see if we need to vote on the time. >> Okay. Any other questions? Any other new business? >> No. >> All right. May I have a motion to retire to executive session for the purpose of self- evaluation practices and procedures or professional ethics when meeting with a representative of the statewide association of which the public body is a member. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Miss Mald, please call the vote. Ms. Molero. I Mrs. Dixon. >> Hi. >> Mr. Okmpo. >> Hi. >> Miss Morris. >> Hi. >> Dr. Fischer. >> Hi. >> Miss Barbham. >> Hi. >> Miss Smith. >> I. Motion carries.
