Walker. >> All right. >> So, Mrs. Mayor is here. >> So, Mr. Chavez and Mrs. Wald and thank you. Also, I'd like to thank Miss Patty Gonzalez for helping us tonight. Thank you, Patty, for being here. Take care of the team. And uh uh we would like to respectfully ask uh the board to begin our meeting with a moment of silence in memory of the passing of our beloved
retired board member of 34 years, Mrs. Pagok. So, if you just take a moment quietly, please. Thank you everyone. >> Okay, thanks. Okay, for participation uh none in the audience, Lewis, is there anybody online who wants to ask a question? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, no public participation. >> Okay. In terms of written participation, we ask that the board accept the written correspondence as presented. >> I get a motion, Miss Mo and Mr. Johnson. Roll call, please. >> Chavez. >> Hi, Tyler. >> Hi, >> Jackson. >> Hi, >> Mason. >> Hi. >> Mora, >> I Walker is S and Espinosa. >> Hi. >> Okay. After consider pass. Thank you. For consideration of board business, we ask the board to approve the minutes of the regular board meeting of April 27th, 2026, the close session minutes
of March 23rd, 2026. Reorganization minutes of April 27th, 2026. Policy legislation minutes of April 27th, 2026. The April 30th, 2026 parent teacher advisory committee meeting minutes. And the school safety meeting minutes of April 29th, 2026 as presented. So we need a motion. Motion, Mr. Jackson and M. Mr. Roll call, please. >> I power. Jackson >> I >> Mason >> I >> Mora >> I >> Walker absent Espinosa >> I motion passed >> and for reports for the superintendent there's no old business >> no old business suggested motion is that the board of education approve the accounts and claims payable as presented there are no questions this month >> I get a motion and Miss Mason. Roll call, please. >> Jackson, >> hi. >> Mason, >> hi. >> Ma, >> hi. >> Walker, >> do I
chaser? Motion pass. Also, the building rental usage report provided in your packet for your information. Next, please. No old missions. No, no other business for the board. So, we'll go a little quicker tonight. Get a motion going to close session. Then, Miss Mason rolls it >> high to Jackson. Hi, >> Mason. >> Hi. motion test. >> We should be long session. >> Excuse me. >> Since they're not good. >> Yes. All right. >> Consideration of new bills. >> It's Mason TV. >> We had a executive board meeting last night, May 20th at PACE. We discussed geothermal of course and uh the process has begun and at the end of the school year May 29th they will be doing the outside road and we will be doing a wedding to commemorate that uh process. I will
be sub submitting uh the update uh tomorrow because I didn't have the opportunity to print the uh report but I will submit it tomorrow. >> Sounds good. >> Thank you. >> Miss Walker uh had some later on news today. Her aunt passed away. I told you those. >> So let's keep her in the prayers and be moving forward. Okay. >> Yes. >> Mr. S's not here. We had no facilities meeting. Uh so we'll keep you updated on the all facilities. Recepts any transportation? >> Um nothing on that area but um we did have our tap meeting late last April 30th and it was um volunteer showed up. Um some of the topics we discussed were cell phone usage um and understanding of what the title one program was and um it was really uh reassuring
to know that our parents that were residents um really had strict home cell phone policies and it kind of brought that was a topic that dominated and it really just comes down to if we as a district wanted to implement a cell phone policy um maybe something to consider at the beginning of the 26 27 school year. Um, state of Illinois is working on something. It keeps it keeps not passing because they want to verbage. Um, but it is sitting on Senate Bill 2427 currently. So, at some point something will pass. Um, I guess the question lies is do we want to be proactive? I can't implement something that is similar to the wording um for the next school year or we want to wait until the bill passed. what's our position on so far?
So, I'm passing that out now. And so, I met with the um principles and the system principles and we're going to meet further in uh June. So, we'll be able to revise this for the June 22nd board meeting. And as Mrs. As Espinosa pointed out, we we don't know what is these going to recommend, but it sounds like they're going to be recommending something. This is currently what we have. So, what I just shared with you, it's our procedure which is in the parent student handbook. And when I talk to the principles, uh what's happening is there are some areas where they think we could make some uh revisions, some updates with language and some examples that might help. But as Mrs. Espinosa said the parents who were at the parent teacher advisory committee were
very much in support of minimizing or eliminating the impact on learning that telephones or put it another way social media or text threads could be causing to the learning environment >> and they're very much in support. Some of the parents also pointed out as Mrs. Espinosa would talk about that they understand not everybody parents that way that there are parents who feel no matter what our procedure is, they want their child to have a phone and they want that child to have that phone accessible at all times. Well, our current procedure is that the phone needs to be, if you know, is number one, it needs to be out of sight and an inconspicuous location such as a backpack, purse, or locker. In other words, they're not supposed to have it on them. And then,
of course, the implementation of that, the enforcement of that is always the challenge. But uh everyone agrees that the uh cell phone has become disruptive. It's now just a question of as Mrs. Espinosa was saying what we can do because even if we do get ahead of it and I think Mrs. Espinosa is right. Let's use the time we have even before Isby comes out. So at least we're clear on what we're trying to do, what we want to do in our community because at the end of the day that this is where we have to implement whatever it is that we have to implement. So uh we kind of began the ball rolling this past week by talking about it. Dr. Pikes and Dr. Modi uh anything you want to share? We uh met
with the parents at the committee meeting and uh we had several parents who lake represent I'm sure um I would say at the middle schools um physical fighting has gone away especially lake middle school but it's replaced by uh some of the negative impacts that saw from that um group threads um kids being isolated because they're off of group bread that were on a group thread yesterday and so I think a lot of that is hard to control. What's happening is there so much is bleeding into this neighborhood on Saturday, Sunday and the parents are coming to the building on Monday and saying can you help me resolve what happened over the weekend on itself and it's really hard for us to to manage that. I think we've involved our police department so much more
than ever and it's a lot of it is due to u you know tracking down where this um information is coming through on phone. At North Middle School, we tried something a little bit different. Sure, kids don't use a backpack, but they're not allowed to take their own weave in a unlocker. And so, we tried this year was kids have a Chromebook case and their Chromebook case. And so, we've asked our scholars at the beginning of each period when they enter our classroom, their phone book case, the phone in their Chromebook case. I explained to the parents at open house that the phone will the phone is still in their classroom. So, if there ever is an emergency, it's within feet of the scholar. However, we keep the backpack or the Chromebook case on the
side so kids don't have access, but they're smart. They're bringing second cell phones, putting one in a Chromebook case and having another one that's ready to go. It's hard to find, right? And I know we always talk about teaching and learning the prior. I think that takes away from that teaching and learning so valuable to the growth for our scholars. You had anything to add? >> You had anything to add? >> Do you have anything to add? >> I didn't hear you. My apologies. No, just that from the when we met as a admin group, we we're not seeing as many issues obviously as the primary would primary have a lot of tracking device, watches, things of that nature that I think still need to be need to have a explicit policy on because um
we're not having student conflicts, but we're having um students that are just kind of taking it on their own to call home or do things. And it's not that there's anything wrong, but then again, no one calls in the office. Why is my son following me or why is my daughter following me? We don't even know that this is happening, right? And so um so we definitely are going to address, you know, we want to get the wording right because we understand as a parent, you want to be able to have that access. You want to have that tracking capability. for us with the primary interference has been okay with pay they can have the watch they can have it but it's got to stay in the backpack and so that's been okay um and
then I think a few principles from the uh intermediate shared that they're seeing the same issues happening or starting to build that that are taking place at school so yeah we want to get ahead of it >> miss thank you for taking lead on this and I know you going to work first and closer with the superintendent and as this go forward especially what comes spring for you guys and keep the board informed. So, thank you for that. Thank you. Okay, Dennis, we bought as you because I I looked at Mr. Chevroy policies last week. Last week we voted on the policies. Anything you want to add on that? >> That was after last week. >> All right. small continued events throughout as the end of the year. So excited to show up and and
support in any of the areas that I'm able to. Um I will just kind of uh say for now that one of the goals that we have or the viol advisory committee is maybe to leverage you know the two different areas that I'm over relations leverage that side of things um to help support our governing web advisory committee um talked about like any of the events that come up at different schools having a table and really um trying to create more traction for that program. Um, we've got some committed uh uh individuals that that really want to see that program come back to how it used to be, where it used to be with like different speakers and opportunities for the community to come together. Um, and and we just really need to leverage um
all of the different schools and resources that we have so that we can get more parents involved and really um you know make uh the program as great as it can be. So, uh, potentially people will be reaching out to some of the schools for recommendations on parents that are involved or that you feel might be able to, um, that we might be able to lean into so that as we start up for the next year that we make that a really strong initiative. >> And M Tra update on the volunteers that we have. >> They only have one. >> Okay. Well, you update. Thank you. All right. So, anything else, M? >> No, that's it. >> Great. Okay, moving right along. Superintendent. Thank you, Mr. President. I'd like to begin with uh we have
a recommendation for a new hire as discussed in close session. We ask that the board um employ David McCale to the position of director of special education for teaching and learning effective July 1, 2026. >> I miss Moore and Miss Efinosa. Roll call, please. >> Espinosa. I >> high tower. >> Hi >> Jackson. >> Hi >> Mason. >> Hi >> Mara. >> Hi. >> Motion pass. and welcome to Berkeley School District 87. >> Thank you very much. Um I taught special education for about six years and then I went into central uh administration for about 15 years now. Um, most recent has been over at Forest Park where I have been focusing on FTSS, uh, special education services personnel and, uh, it it's been a great journey and now I'm very blessed to be here
to serve Berkeley small school district and thank you very much. >> Welcome. A little bit of things. >> Put your cell phone in there. >> I could hear that. >> Uh, Mrs. Zimmerman. Thank you. What a nice way to >> Thank you. >> Um, welcome Mr. McCale. Uh, licensed personnel resignation. We ask that the board accept the resignation of the following personnel. Giana Curran, cross categorical teacher at Sunnyside, effective at the end of the 2526 school year. >> Miss Moore and Mr. Jackson. Roll call, please. >> Hi. >> Tower. Hi. >> Jackson. Hi. >> Mason. Hi. >> Mora. Hi. Esposa. Hi. >> Motion pass. We ask that the board employ the following licensed personnel effective August 17, 2026 pending all employment paperwork. Margaret Logerquist, third grade teacher at Riley. Gabriella Allay, fourth grade teacher at
Riley. Ty Rose Terry, third grade teacher at Sunnyside. Each of these will be effective August 17th, 2026 as presented. >> I got a motion. Miss Extinosa and Mr. Jackson. Roll call, please. >> Jackson, >> Mason of Mora. >> Hi, High Tower. Hi. >> Motion pass. >> Possible action regarding a staff member. We ask that the board of education terminate Jose Rivera prek bilingual resource teacher at Woodier and Jefferson primary school immediately after due consideration of information as presented and discussed in close session. Got >> a motion. Miss Moa and Miss Estronosa. Roll call, please. >> Mason. I Mora. Hi. Uh Espinosa. Hi. Higher. Gi. Motion pass. Uh the next I need to read uh the notice to remedy and direction to act. Whereas Cynthia Jones is employed as a teacher in Berkeley School District 87,
Cook County, Illinois, and whereas the board has received reports from the administration concerning the conduct of Mrs. Jones. And whereas the board hereby finds and determines that such reports state causes, charges, reasons, and defects in the conduct of Miss Jones, which if not removed and remedied are causes, charges, and reasons warranting her discipline and/or discharge and dismissal as a teacher and licensed employee in the school district. Now therefore, be it resolved by the board of education of Burke with school district number 87, Cook County, Illinois, as follows. Before recital are incorporated into and made part of this resolution, the board of education hereby approves, ratifies, and adopts a notice to remedy and direction to act substantially in the form of the notice discussed by the board in close session during its May 21, 2026 meeting
and summarized in the minutes of said close session as its notice to remedy and direction to act to Cynthia Jones. The board secretary or design shall cause a notice to remedy and direction to act substantially in the form of the notice discussed by the board in close session during its May 21st, 2026 meeting and summarized in the minutes of said close session to be served on Cynthia Jones and placed within her personnel file. The resolution will be in full force and effective immediately on its package passage, excuse me. We ask that the board of education adopt the resolution of the notice to remedy and direction to act for teacher Cynthia Jones as discussed in close session. So we need a motion. >> We need a motion. >> More and Mr. Jackson. Roll call, please. >>
Mora. >> Hi. >> Esposa. >> Hi. >> Jackson. Hi. >> Mason. Hi. >> Motion pass. License personnel proof of absence. We ask that the board approve the license personnel leave request as presented for Carolyn Frame and Danielle Scott. Get a motion. >> Mr. Jackson and Miss Mo. Roll call, please. >> Esposa. >> I tower. >> Hi. >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> Mason. >> Hi. >> Mora. >> Hi. >> Motion passed. We ask that the board of education approve the following fundraisers and donation as presented. Walk-athon for Riley, December winter wonderland for Riley, the school store for Riley, McDonald's fundraising night, Little Caesars fundraising, tip a bucket on a teacher fundraising, and Scholastic Award that was for Sunnyside uh as presented. >> Okay, get a motion. Miss Mason, Miss Mora, roll call, please. >> Jackson, >>
hi. >> Mason, I >> Mora, I Espinosa. >> I high towers. >> Hi. >> Motion pass. >> And for my oral report, I'd like to thank Mrs. Espinosa. She talked about the parent teacher advisory committee. Thank you so much for attending and uh giving your summary. And so uh again just for our discussion the uh principles and I will be working and we'll give another report back on the 22nd of June see what kind of recommended language and that would be for the board to review and u and thank you Dr. Pikes and Dr. Modi for sharing and look at this Mr. Male, you get to jump right in. Right on in part of this. Um, I uh shared with you a newsletter from Burger if I could just go over. Uh, it's really the
the third paragraph. Uh, just a couple of things. One is the McDonald's restaurant on St. Charles. So, this is um interesting information. Uh, located at on St. Charles Road will be completely torn down this spring. Though, I'm not sure when they're going to do it, but they're going to tear it down and they're going to expand it. And uh if you recall, just east of that property is where the Berkeley Garden used to be. >> And that move has moved now over to is it Eisenhower Park? >> Yes, it's at the uh Eisenhower campus uh south of the Adventure Bay. >> And now it's the um Hillside Community Garden. >> And so the garden is still happening or or still in existence. And uh that space now is going to be a larger McDonald's. That's
what we're being, >> right? So, I'm not sure when, but it's construction and uh I'm sure it will impact us in some way, but right now I think uh if you read this article, it's good for the community. It's good for Berkeley's business that the I believe it's the Nelson family >> that the business must be thriving that they're investing like that. >> Yes. >> And then we it was just across the street. Um there's a note there about Huntington Dew. So, I'll just read that really quickly. The Honey Boo, which purchased that warehouse from Walgreens a few years ago, uh, and it used to be a distribution center for Walgreens, and then it was a distribution center for Honey Cano, and now it looks like it's going to be another distribution, uh, facility, and
it will be demolished, as you're seeing, that's happening right now. And, uh, yes, very quickly. and it will be rebuilt as a modern multi-tenant distribution and light manufacturing uh facility. The new facility will bring a new and modern look to our business. And when I spoke with the village of Berkeley, they said that the architects have been looking at Sunnyside MacArthur and are going to try to um mimic some of that design into that new facility. That's how much they like how our facilities look. So, I thought that was con. >> Yeah. And uh unless there are any questions, that's the end of my report. >> Good report, Dan. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> All right. So, I wanted to give you just kind of some updates on professional development that we are embarrassing
on. So, we are right now in the process of beginning well revising and updating our school improvement plans. And so you will have those I'll bring those for recommendation at the um June board meeting. So the completion of that will be our school improvement team or our lit team learning improvement team retreat on June 2nd where they will will work together as a district and all six schools to finalize all of our SIP plans. And then we have put together at the central office um a summer leadership learning series for our principles, assistant principles and our central office administrators focused on the uh init visible learning components that are in our plans. So teacher clarity, the restorative practices um are the major components of that. We're also talking about hiring. We're talking about safety, talking
about the special education pieces, some of the redesign of some of those things in our department, my department. And so, and what that's going to look like as we move into next year. So, you um I'm excited about all of those components and what that'll look like. So, we've been working hard at planning that together. And part of that plan will look at what's the professional development for the next year going to look like and planning for some of that as well as new teacher orientation coming after the dates but what's the structure going to look like. also meeting with the middle school science team to uh take a look at our alignment and we've started a process of ensuring that um creating rubrics so that we are looking at the success criteria for our
students and grading things similarly across both. So they've come together several times this year and are coming together this summer as well to ensure that um as we start next year that we have all of that work completed. And then we have two exciting opportunities for our staff. Uh the culturized institute that I don't know if you remember we went to last year. This year we have 18 staff members going and they administrators and we will continue our coaching with Jimmy passes as we move it till next year. So leadership coach will be continue with that uh both Jimmy and then his leadership coaches in the buildings we added components to it. So I will be working on that. And then we have 25 visible learning ambassadors that the schools have selected that will help
carry the banner as Jimmy would say with regard to our visible learning uh journey that we are on and we will be going to Nashville, Tennessee in July to spend about three days there at the visible learning conference. Remember last year I went and I took uh Miss Henry and Miss Salsman went with me and then I stayed a couple extra days to become a certified visible learning and so we will take another core group with us this year larger group to do that with our grand funding and capitalize on that experience so that we have more of us expanded opportunity to build their capacity and understanding to help our team provide professional development across the system and support our teachers. The other thing I wanted to share is we had the Impossible Science STEM
festival beginning of May >> and uh it was amazing. >> It was fun. >> It was very fun. >> It was fun. >> Yeah. Um I'm sure that Dr. Pikes and Dr. Modi will speak of it. I had a couple kids say like this is the best day of my life. Um they we had 25 uh stations set up where kids were engaging in they just w they just wandered from station to station. They had free rain and they had about 40 minutes from in each station throughout the day when they came in. >> And um they it was It was magical to see their faces light up. Um, I'll bring some pictures. Actually, I I've been out on vacation and then I was sick, so I did not get pictures together, but I will
for the June meeting. >> But it was really exciting and they had a great time and it was and you know what was also fun is to watch our teachers engage in the STEM activities of themselves. It was nice to see Joy in their face and some of our administrators and our central office. >> It was fun. >> It was great. >> Some school. >> Summer school starts. Let's see. The third. Thank you very much. We do training on the first. We have a parent night and then they have time to room, set up their rooms and things, but the actual first date with students is the third of June >> and participation. >> We were close to 300. >> Yes. >> Good job. >> And took a little effort, but we got the bowling
proposal through through our grant funding. >> All right. almost everything was great. >> Then our two teachers at Caroline Zlinsky and Nancy Porcel put together a uh proposal and tied it to physics, statistics, >> of course, >> um and like uh project based learning around all of those standards and history, the history of bowling. And so um after I explained all of that in our grants, then they put that through. So I was very excited and ready for the field trips to the bowling alley for those to have our kids to have that experience. >> To give Mrs. Zuran credit, at first is rejected it. >> They did. >> And uh so nice job resubmitting >> the council like Dr. Sullivan. >> Let's think about how we can I like be creative. Can I say
Good job from the teachers, isn't it, Greg? >> Oh, yeah. I was like, I'm gonna take some proposal and the standards and show them how this is an educational learning experience. They're like, this is an educational, oh yes, it is. Let me show you. So, you >> can point. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Okay, you're up. um summary of function statement the position and the student activity reports for the period ending April 30th are provided for your information and then uh there are no action items this this one but u I do have a oral report but as of the April 30th financial report the district expended approximately 75% of the budgeted expenditures and received approximately 86 of the budgeted revenues and that includes includes revenue from the corporate property taxes. We keep most
of that, the grant reimbursement and the property tax collection tonight. Um also continuing to amend the FY26 amended budget that's going to be uh the budget hearing is scheduled for June 22nd. Some of the things I'm adding to that are technology related. We were going to be purchasing them next year, but with through discussions with Mr. Burn, we thought it would be better to do it this year because prices are constantly going up and we need to get them in here so they can be received, prepared, and programmed before the school year starts. So, we're going to move them this year instead. Um hopefully computers and we're also budgeting for supplies and equipment needed for some of the new staff will be starting in July. So some of that will be moved into this year's
budget, but they have to move some things around where it's not going to be a lot a lot a big difference in the expenditures. It's just going to be things moved around. Um through PMA we we found that the consumer price index increased for the second consecutive month. So in April it's um inflation rose to 3.8% year-over-year 3.3 in March. So we're trying to look at our expenditures and see how we can manage them. Most of it came through higher gas and energy prices. Um we're also seeing it in our travel expenditures and our food costs. So these um are going to be pressures that we can that are impact the district moving forward. But we're also looking at how we can monitor those expenditures, how we can maybe decrease them, find cost savings in
response to the food and energy or food and supply costs. Our isb food service auditor actually introduced us to a food purchasing co-op that we're thinking about joining. Um this year it's too late to join it, but we are looking into maybe just uh fiscal year 28 and speaking with him. He highly recommends the co-op. Over 70 plus districts in Northern Illinois are already utilizing it. So, I'm going to be reaching out to those some of those districts to find out what they like about it, what they don't like about it, and how we compare. I'll talk to Mr. Shelton and the food service team, their thoughts before we can provide any recommendations here, but we are looking into possibly utilizing that. It would help us because we would everything is already competitively bid, so
we wouldn't have to do the bidding ourselves. Um that would be paper and food products and that would also eliminate the need for us to bid then and there would be cost savings potentially. Um more simplifying administrative tracking of the food and the and the products that we purchase and making sure we're we're utilizing things that have already been approved by the National School Lunch Program. uh and also strengthening our internal controls at that time as well. Um next I attended the self workers comp renewal meeting and the skip insurance midyear meeting last week and our workers comp premiums will be increasing and they're directly impacted by health insurance costs. So, we haven't received our proposal yet for next year, but we should be getting it within the next week or so, and we're thinking
about 10 to 15% increase. At the skip midyear meeting though, we discussed the water sensor pilot program, and we're involved with that. A few months ago, I agreed for our district to be a part of the program and at no cost to us. And we've recently received some water sensor buckets that can be installed at the district and I think facilities had already started in um implementing the putting them in installing them and we're reminded the sensors can be placed anywhere that moisture can accumulate including areas by roofs by um leaking pipes any other potential water intrusion locations and the purpose is to basically help identify moisture early important U and reduce the largest one of our larger facility related damages and insurance cost items. And then next week, our auditors will be on site
for several days attending the audit and reviewing our internal controls. We're also required this year to complete a full actuarial report as part of the audit process. And I just want to thank um Bessie Ortiz from human resources for helping us with that. She's been amazing. And that includes my report. >> Report questions. >> Okay, >> it's Travis, you >> all right? Uh I have the vacancies uh that we currently have. It's approximately about 16 vacancies. Uh we are in the process of hiring several uh employees for next school year, but they're in the employment process. Oh, in June at June's board meeting, we should have several people up for approval as they go through and we're interested in knowing how many bilingual positions. There's two. Uh, but for one of them, we do have
a candidate again. She's going through the employment process. The other one is a very difficult, hard to fill position. They're looking for bilingual literacy specialist. That means that person is certified in bilingual in elementary or primary and also has a reading specialist and that is very hard to find. So that's the one bilingual position that we're currently looking for but we're we're hopeful. Um, a lot of our vacancies out of the 16 certified vacancies, a lot of them about eight are special ed. The rest are various in um math, science in other areas, but the principles are um interviewing and we're trying. We have had some declinations who from candidates and they were declining due to some of them instead of elementary for special education they selected to go to high school. High school is
going to pay a little bit more than actually a lot more than elementary. So few of them have um chosen to go to high school. Some of them want to work closer to home. I always ask them to give me their reason for you know not um accepting the position. So the principles are working very hard. Okay. Administrative we have one opening for administrative assistant principal of Whittier um to step in the shoes of Dr. Pites as she moved over into district office. Uh Dr. Bon staff has interviewed I interviewed with her and her team of teachers this past week went very well. So hopefully in June we will have a recommendation for that position as well. And then support staff. We have about seven vacancies for support staff. Okay. Open enrollment. Um Miss Dad
uh recognized Miss Ortiz and I just want to thank Miss Ortiz. That's my administrative assistant. And uh we have completed um open enrollment for this school year. This was our first year for doing it electronically. I think I share it with you. And so, uh, we did it and it went really, really well. Um, the day that open enrollment closed, we only had two people who hadn't completed it on their own electronically out of about 400 people. So, that was amazing. Um, when they don't complete it on their own, you automatically get what you were enrolled in the previous year. But um we still you know communicated with them and told them you know shared with them the importance of them making that selection just so they can go through the process. But she did
an amazing job and we're in the final stages of it. So what she's doing right now is going through everybody's selection process and she noticed a change. She likes to call the employees to make sure that they meant to elect that change. So she's doing that right now. Um, right now she shared with me today she's on letter L and she hopes to be finished with everybody tomorrow. So she's doing a great job. I'm very proud of her. Worked really hard. But for the first time this being done digitally electronically, the district did an amazing job. So we're very um very happy about that. So that went really well. And then the last thing I would like to share is we partner with Bloomboard to support originally seven teacher assistants in becoming teachers. We did
have one who um decided not to continue at this time. So we have six and we have six of them. They've worked very hard. The first semester was a big push but I was there to support them. They finished their first semester um in December. They just finished their second semester um in May. They did a wonderful job. Um so out of the six, two of them have one more year to go, which is next year. And they both will be teachers. One will be an elementary teacher, one will be a special education teacher next May. At this time, the university is Lake Erie. So I'm talking to them if they decide to go to their graduation. and I tell them we can carpool together with them to support them. Um, and then the other
four they will finish the following year. And the difference between the ones that's graduating next May and the year after is some of them went in with an associates already. Two went in and they had their associates. The other one had some college course work but not an associates. So, they're going to they're on the three-year track. But I'm very proud of them. They worked very hard. Bloom board has been amazing. I meet with them every other week. They let me know the uh participants, the scholars progress. So I give them an update and you know I try to encourage them. Do you need anything? What do you need from the district? The principles, they have teacher mentors here have all been a part of um their success. But we're very proud of them and
they was like, "Oh my goodness." I remember us sitting down talking about it and here I am with the year of college under my belt. I said, "Isn't that amazing?" So, it's really great to see out of the group, I think we'll have four special education teachers and two elementary uh teachers. So, that's going to be great. >> And I think we use grant funding for that. >> We use grant funding for that. Help us with them so they understand. And it's very um important that they work hard. they're taking it uh very seriously and I'm just proud of them and you know a big cheerleader form try to encourage them along the way see what they mean um throughout the process but they kind of get together they work together and it is it's
a lot of you know communication as Travis what do I do for this what do I do you know for that and so we're talking and communicating a lot but I told them I'm going to see them through and that they're getting ready to be teachers Any questions? >> Good job. >> Thank you. >> Okay, facilities. M. >> All right. So, what we're having for you guys today is our custodian maintenance teams are ready for our summer break to start. Um, we're lining up projects for the maintenance teams to tackle over break. and the custodians are ready to start doing their deep cleaning and they're getting ready for that. Also, I would like to let you guys know that our regent team has started a small little project right outside of Riley. I'm sorry I
don't have any pictures to show you at this time. Um, but what they did was Maria had made a suggestion to have the kids start taking part in that participating in stuff and so Arena's guys had carved out an arm right outside of Ry the grass. And so what they're going to do is Maria's going to have the kids paint all the rocks so they can participate and start adding rocks every year into our into the shape of our grass. >> All right. >> So, and then the last thing we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and start our facilities meeting with our team so we can go ahead over all the summer stuff and expectations. That's all I have to say. >> Thanks. >> What about the water systems at >>
from the insurance base? Well, we have that we're still with Jo for us to go over for the Wi-Fi cuz the PS are going to be connected. So, I believe our system with the Wi-Fi. So, if something starts to leak or moisture like she was saying, it will notify us right away notification. So, I think that is a very good thing. >> Thank you, Dr. Mo. >> Right, we are wrapping up the school year at the middle school. We had our class on Friday. Both middle schools very well attended. Uh today was our Navy here bowl cruise for both schools. A little chilly little lake. Uh and then um we wrap up with graduation on Thursday. The MacArthur Middle School graduation is at 5:30. Uh followed by the North Lake Middle School graduation at 7:30.
Please wear a lot. We made a recommendation for a hire last week. So, we're excited about her joining our seventh grade. So, we're down to two and try and get those filled in over the next couple. So, want to go into the next year with a 1% full st. Good job. Thank you, Dr. P. So, we are Dr. wrapping things up. Um, on the north side as a whole, um, I think our teacher appreciation week went off really well. Our PTO took care of all three of our schools and really took care of our teachers. It was really appreciated. Um, our teachers felt the love. We had our north side event where all three of our schools came together which was fabulous and we had a lot of fun. Um we had a team to
be defeated which was our specials team combinations for Riley and Whittier and they were defeated. So we had a new champion this year. Um and then at year specifically and we of course are getting ready for our year races yesterday which was um basically the entire school race. Our key guys that put this together and our Mustang came out. He he fought the good race but he did not make it. He was dead last in the race. Um he'll try again next year. Um we will have field day next week. We have kindergarten celebration next week. Um, and the one other piece, even though we have all of these celebrations happening, I think to just kind of tie it all in, and we were talking about this at our ELT meeting on um, Wednesday, um,
for the first time, well, it is the first time, our reading score, our math scores in high at the end of the year are the highest they've been thus far. So, every year they're growing, they're growing, they're growing. this year in the summer diagnostic for spring this these are the highest that they so we're really proud of our teachers and I think that it shows this is year six right for iron seven of you know so was here before I was here but I mean co so >> but it shows that the program is working whenever you're trying to implement something new it averages about five years for full implementation So we're well into full implementation and we're seeing the results of that and um you guys probably in the beginning we were I think
the first school to go we presented our I already presented our high data and we'll talk about how our sat have really improved well that trend is keeping up. So it's not a fad it's really we're so proud of them of the work that our teachers are doing. What this means that it's transferred over to B and it's transferring over to our island going to be transferred over to sixth grade right so we are remaining those founders our map data was also definitely still on that growth so we're we're closing out the year I believe >> can I share something I meant to share shared this in my report. And so as I shared with you, we're interviewing for Dr. Pipes and uh one of the candidates asked us, which I thought was a great
uh question. She said, you know, what would the team like what would the team like for her to continue that doc Dr. Pikes does? Well, >> that candidate emailed sent an email in honor of Dr. Pikes. Can I share with you? >> Sure. Absolutely. >> It was really nice. >> She said, "Good morning. I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to reach out and express my sincere gratitude not only for the opportunity to be considered for the position you are leaving behind, but for the culture you have built at Whittier Primary." These are big shoes to fill. And I asked the interview team what they hope to see continue. The answer was clear. You, your visibility in the building, your genuine investment in students, and your supportive nature have made a lasting impact
on the lives of everyone in that school. The hugs and always the full candy jar did not go unnoticed. >> She said, "The fact that a school community speaks so warmly and so consistently about their assistant principal says everything. Thank you for your dedication to the children and the staff of Whittier Primary. Thank you for being so welcoming, warming, and quite honestly hilarious. You you sent me in with a smile and that meant more than you know. I also have to say uh the naming of the plant did not go unnoticed and I loved it. Uh she just wanted to say I wish you the very best of luck next year in your new and extremely important new role. I really thought that was nice for her to, you know, come back and share that
and send that uh email. I just thought it was amazing. >> Thank you, Mrs. Travis. >> You're welcome. >> I want to take this opportunity to say this what you walk into, Mr. Call. We celebrate each other and we want to say ra >> your turn. Let's call you up and you explain to David. >> Um well first and foremost thank you for again the opportunity. I am truly honored and blessed to be here. Uh I look forward to listen and learn about the climate and culture of each of the buildings and be able to support and influence um in the learning of our children. >> But thank you and welcome once again. >> I'm going to call Mr. Burn, but guess what? >> Mr. Yeah, sir. Okay. Um, there are a couple projects. I
didn't come prepared with topics, but I know when we were in Jefferson, we are going to be implementing upgrades to the jams for projectors and screens so that they have that those jams. We're also going to be replacing a lot of the viewboards at the I think is what you're >> Oh, yeah. So, that that started. Um, and then we touched base on those trucks that are going to go detect the water sensors. We're working on that as well. We have some configures said, but I think that's all I can think of at the moment. >> Is this your first meeting? You have >> he started >> I started all the >> I don't like talking a lot about you guys and how great of a culture we have here because I just feel so
comfortable >> to see that. >> Yeah. Sorry once again hit the ground running. >> I wanted to share with you Mr. High Tower. I was about to say those exact same Mr. has hit the ground. >> Yeah. >> It's like it's he's been here longer because we're talking about him, but we see him here, you see him there. He's um out helping others. >> I can see him right here. Then I turn around, he's coming in. >> Oh, he hit the ground running. And then I want to tell you David, I don't know if you picked it up, but David has hit the ground running because I'm really big on us calling our scholars ours. And he did say, did you hear him say he's sitting there running? >> Good. Thanks everyone. pretty sure you
any others. >> Well, the only thing sir is uh well, one is just pointing out something. I want to thank Mrs. Mason because talk about being everywhere. This is PACE graduation week and I think you've been to everyone today, but I think there's another one tomorrow that you're at >> and uh it we started the meeting talking about Mrs. Okonnell and what a credit to Mrs. Okonnell because I know that was such a passion of hers big time >> and you have kept that going for district 87. I just want to thank you because the one we were at today what a beautiful ceremony. >> Yes. And it's been that way last week, this week, and I just want to say um to the Okconor family um and anyone that was able to get to
know her and interact. She was such an important part of district 87 in the proviso township community and not just in Berkeley but in the proviso township community. I used to take her with me to pace board meeting and we would ride and I drive slow just to hear her talk to her house and sit there for a while just to hear her talk. and she was such a warm woman and she was genuine and very open and honest and that's a quality you don't find in people nowadays >> and she didn't have to be that with me and but she was and she's one of the reasons why I sit here and why I do what I do. So thank you Dr. s for just bringing that up and also yes, >> I hit
the ground running. That's right. >> So, you never know what I'm going to do with that. >> And uh I I really So, the only other thing, sir, is we do have graduation coming up and Mrs. Flores is not here tonight. She wasn't able to make it, but um uh Patty, thank you. And I need to get some names though. I promise. All right. MacArthur's graduation next Thursday 5:30. >> Mason. And I want to say that Mrs. Walker has a graduate this year. >> Yes. >> And I think I had talked to her about she wanted to give uh the diploma. So I think we have Mrs. Walker. Okay. All right. Um so then can uh Mrs. Espinosa and Mrs. Mason, would you be able to stay for the North Lake at 7:30? >> Yes.
>> Even though Dr. Mo. >> All right. And I'll make sure I bring the red tie and the blue tie. >> Yeah. >> Uh that's it, sir. Thank you. Okay. Where you going? No hands. I'm good. >> You are going right? >> If I'm needed. Yes. >> Okay. >> How about I'll confirm with Mrs. Walker? Okay. >> But that she can stay because if it's the graduate, are they going out? >> Let me go. >> Yeah. But you might be able to come. >> I needed I will be there. >> Got it. Thank you. You can always count the president. But I thought you were going to try to sit on the stage. They are mistaken out. >> Well, that's great. We will have this worked out. So, Mr. Moore, I'll be back in touch.
Thank you. >> Thanks. >> All right. >> Why Mr. Jackson? >> Uh, that would be June 22nd. >> Okay. Very good. >> All right. Well, I want to thank everyone who showed tonight and we really apologize that we had to move it to Thursday night. I know it was a lot of stress on everyone, but thanks for showing up. Nancy and Miss Exon, thanks for changing your plans. We got a chance to have our corn. As you know, we had two hours of good, good production. >> So, thank you everyone.
