United States of America to the republic for stands nationisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay. Roll call, please. >> I Mason >> present. >> Mora Walker, your Espanosa. >> She's running late, but she'll be here. She sent us a text. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Uh we have a public hearing and uh this would be from the Education and Policy Committee, but uh see Mr. Chavez is not here yet. So um where we have a notice of public hearing. So a call to order. So could we uh for can we call to order the the um >> Yeah. You okay? Good. >> Okay. Good. >> And then let me pull up. We have um and Mrs. Shaparo who's here, one of our uh guests tonight from the community. I think you're talking about our

e-learning plan. >> That would be what you're talking Yes. So, we're we're gonna talk about that tonight. Okay. So, I'm gonna pull up our e-learning program which uh is in your um your packet. And each year we want to have a updated e-learning plan on file with the state in case with severe weather we need to do an e-learning day and the information is um attached and the idea is that I will quickly go over this with Mrs. Zimmerman here and then we would approve it in the uh uh the regular board meeting. So, uh, for our public hearing, e-learning days are district-wide days that permit student instruction to be received electronically while students are not physically present in the classroom. And Mr. Jackson, I think you have them where you work as well, the

e-learning days. And the requirements are that we have to address the students ability to participate. So, this includes all of our children, whether they're multilingual children or special needs children or as we have in district 87, some children that are both special needs and multilingual. We have to be able to address those needs uh in order for it to be meaningful. Uh five hours of instruction and we also have to work to make sure that our children have access to get online from their home. So, often working with Mr. burn. We have access points for children in order to access the internet. So, that's sort of an ongoing uh thing that we make sure with our families that they're able to have access from their home. And uh why do we have the e-learning days?

It helps keep up with the school calendar. It allows for continuity of instruction over emergency days. And uh it helps children realize that they don't learn just in school, but learning takes place outside of school too. Matter of fact, at home, the community, the world is another classroom, and we want our children to think of it like that. And uh so we uh have our e-learning uh program for approval tonight. Kelly, was there anything you wanted to add? No, we just made some um adjustments to the language as we you know we we update this every three years as part of our um requirements under the law. And so some of the things that we did uh the last time we were coming out of COVID so we had just some additional things. We also

just changed some language around some of the tools or platforms that we used at the time. So like we have we have parents where now and that's how we send out communications to our families. Um we also as part of our e-learning plan is we make sure that we send things home um via paper as well especially in the primary and then everything's posted on our websites. So we have a multitude of ways that students can access it also via their Chromebooks, Google Classroom, things like that and it's communicated in advance. So it's always posted on the website. Um in the event that we have to call an e-learning day. Um I think that was probably the biggest. We just updated some of the language based on new modalities of platforms, communications systems that we

have updated since our last plan was the biggest really changes really the only changes that we made. Um we wanted to keep it as simple as possible um for our families and for our students because we know that that having an e-learning day on you know just for the moment can cause hardship for our families because they're still parents are still going to work. So we wanted to make sure that it was something that students can do independently. Um they might be home to their brother or sister or something like that. So we kept everything very simple. >> The plan cost five a year. >> Uh we can do up to up to five >> five a year. Um some years we haven't used it at all. >> Right. And uh as Mrs. Zimmerman was

mentioning and the board is aware that we don't take this lightly doing an e-learning day because it's a big commitment for our parents. Many of our parents do not work from home and so we uh we do everything we can to keep our schools in session in person but there are times when it's a safety issue and we have to adjust accordingly and uh it's good to have this in place but uh our preferred method of instruction is in person if we can do it safely and that's with a coordination not only here in district 87 but also with our neighboring districts because because we we have two high schools that we're connected with with our families and it's very difficult if Leiden is not in school but we are or if or vice versa

with proviso because our families share the same um >> it's a collaborative plan that we make with both our BA and our um support staff as well. So we sit down together and work through this plan and talk through what um for our certified staff and for our support staff and make sure all parties have a voice in the process. >> So um there's ongoing communication and uh we're we have the opportunity to have this revised so we would like to submit it to ISBY for approval unless there are any questions from the board or from anyone in the audience. Public participation. >> Public participation. U so Mr. Shaparo said she wanted to listen. Is there anything else you wanted to add or any questions you had, Mr. Shapar? Okay. It's nice to see you

again. >> Great opportunity for you. >> Um so, but we'll stay in touch with Mapar. >> Glad to have you back. Oh yeah. So we're adjournment now. >> Walker >> Jackson >> motion carries. >> Okay. >> Thanks D. Thank you Mr. Jackson. Okay. want to public uh close public. >> Yes. So uh we are now going to go to the regular board meeting. >> And uh we need a roll call. >> Hi. >> Jackson. >> Mason >> present. >> Walker >> here. Uh we um for public participation we ask the board accept the written correspondence as presented. >> I got a motion. >> Jackson and Miss Walker. Roll call, please. >> Jackson I >> Walker. Motion car. >> Um Mr. Burner, is there any public comment? Apparent not. >> Okay. So, uh, consideration of old

business. We ask the board approve the regular the meeting minutes for the regular board meeting of September 22nd, 2025. Close session minutes of August 25th, 2025 and a policy minutes of September 22nd, 2025 as presented. >> I get a motion. >> M. Mason and Miss Walker. Roll call, please. >> Tower. >> I. >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> Mason. Walker. Uh, well, she carries. >> Uh, for reports from the superintendent. No old business. >> Okay. >> No old business. >> The suggested motion is that the board of education approve the accounts and claims payable as presented. There are no questions. This >> motion recommendation. >> Just motion. >> That's right. No business. >> Okay. Any other old business? >> Uh, no other old business, but I was going to suggest it's on my um uh oral

comment, but rather than go into close session right now, we do have a school improvement presentation >> from our principal and assistant principal of Riley Intermediate. >> 18. >> It pleases the board to make that. >> Absolutely. >> Yes. We're gonna give you an opportunity. >> One second. So Maria, pause. Pause. One second. We have ahead. >> Okay. Can I get a motion for approval? Mr. Jackson and Miss Mason. >> Get a roll call, please. >> Walker. >> Hi. >> Mason. >> Hi. >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> Howard. >> Hi. >> Motion carried. You always put us in check. Appreciate you. Thank you. All right. Did you get both? >> There was just the one and then the building used to record. >> Good. Okay. Thank you. Thank you so much. >> Sorry about the

delay. 18. Showtime. >> Um, so welcome again. Good evening everyone. Thank you so much for being here tonight. My name is Maria Henrix. I am the proud principal of schools. >> And my name is Stan. I'm the assistant principal. also very proud. >> So we don't do the work alone. We always have an incredible team that supports us that's an extension of us. Um so you can see on the screen these are the colleagues and the Raptors at Riley. That made up our lit team which is our school improvement team. So third grade we have Chris Edens. Fourth grade we have Jenny Gonzalez. Fifth Ly Solaris. SPED is in box seal KG donard instructional coach Karen Johnson and our math interventionist. So they are the team that helps us support plan when we are not

running right. So they're an extension of us. That's why we call like the coach. So our reading goal for this school year, I know we did something similar last year. So we wanted to kind of keep it similar to last year, but our reading goal for this year is 40% of res scholars score proficient or above um in reading based on the um the district goal is 57. We thought 40 would be a lofty goal for us in terms of where we finished out last year and the work that we put into last year. So that's kind of where our aim is for this year. The reason for that is I know it's kind of small to see on the screen um but this is our journey of era last year in school pace. So

we are definitely closing gaps even if the growth at the end of the year may not always look like it but if you look at the red the emergency scholars in September of last year we had 64 of our scholars in that space by the end we had 46. Um at Riley we do have a tendency for some of our um scholars to live in that yellow at risk category. The goal is that this year we want them to live in the proficient and you'll see on the future slides that we are starting this year stronger than we ever have before. So the odds are in our favor. Um and so we are hoping that we can sustain that. One of our challenges last year was a few steps. Scholars are meant to read two

steps in school and two steps at home, which is a half an hour of reading in school and a half an hour reading at home. Um, on an average school year, if they read four steps a day, by the time we start logging them, they're supposed to get like 550, 560 for a given school year from September to pretty much May. I'm happy to report that a lot of our scholars exceeded that. So, as you can see in the top right, we had scholars 205 out of 310 read 500 steps and they got her read with a therapy dog at school and Sandy made her debut. >> Um, she's been at Riley quite a bit with the director for 800 steps. I tried really hard to get this prize removed, but it's a fan favorite.

They get to pie me in the face at field day. And not only did the scholars get to pie me in the face, but the teachers get to pie me in the face as well if scholars in their class earned it. So, we had 27 scholars pie me in the face at field day with um six or seven teachers as well. As you can see, Mr. Stam was very eager to get a good close shot right at my face and I accepted that because he earned it. We also had nine out of 310 scholars earn a,000 reading steps. And for a,000 reading steps, it's a class prize. So they get to earn additional recess with VIP equipment that they don't get to use every day and they get to come outside with their class and

kind of enjoy the moment together. So like I said, we did we did have some moments last year of celebration and then two fourth graders surprised me. two fourth graders uh about two weeks before um we were going to close out the school year came up to me and said, "What do you give for 2,000 steps?" Now, as I said, on a given school year, it's 550 to 560. Did I have a plan for 2,000? No, I did not. So, I made one. So, I asked them what they want, right? You earned it. What would you like your prize to be? And to be honest with you, they wanted to be me for a day. And I said, "Have at it." Right? go for it. So, it was kind of cute because they were able

to make our morning announcements on the PA. They were able to eat in the lounge. You can see them both in our lounge, eating in the teachers lounge with some of their teachers. Um, and then they were able to call buses because apparently calling buses with a microphone is a very cool activity that a lot of them are guarding for. And so these babies, there sorry that was you, right? That's okay. We got this. Um, and so these babies were two of our fourth graders that earned 2,000 reading steps. Now, the cool thing is this year I have already started giving off prizes. And guess what? Everyone wants principal for the day. And so, you know what I said? Well, then read your 2,000 steps and we will switch places happily. So, it is exciting

that two kiddos kind of spread this momentum, spread this excitement, and now we have our current scholars yearning for the opportunity. So, we're definitely excited for that. Um, so here's our present reality. As I said, if you take a look at the right, the emergency, the atrisisk, and proficient emergency, we have 61 out of like 333 and then we have 113 in the at risk. But look at our proficient. We have 158 or six M20. It's a name. Okay. We have 158 scholars out of 333 already at the proficient level. I have to tell you, we look at data constantly. This is the best start to a school year that we have seen in a very long time. We established power goals um the week of September 22nd. We did have some friends lagging. So

the week of the 29th of September, okay, that's when power rules were established on the program. So as you can see, we already have a lot here on the green. The thing that we need to do that we need to make sure happens is that we continue to challenge those scholars. The program tends to lend itself to your emergency scholars and dedicating more time to conferencing with them. And so we are definitely making it our mission not to forget about those babies who are on grade level that need that challenge that need that rigor that need that next step. Um so we are hoping that we can sustain this and this is as of Friday what our data looks like. I made the date in there next on institute day I took a screenshot because

it takes 24 hours to pass it. Okay. So we're hoping for good things ahead. >> All right. So, on to Freddy Math. But I do want to go back to um principal for the day because what Miss Hendris did mention is that their favorite part was calling buses. And that's actually my >> they they were pretty excited about that, right? Neither here nor there, but I just wanted to throw that out there. So, on to um ready math. So, um, our goal for this year is by December 2025, 32% of Riley scholars will be a grade level or above on the winter diagnostic. And then by May, 53% of Riley scholars will be a grade level or above on the spring diagnostic. Last year, we ended at 49% of scholars in the spring um being

a grade level or above. So, we're looking to to level up even more. Oh man. >> All right. So the this is um our diagnostics from last year. So if we look at last fall, that's where we started. So if you take a look, what is that? 52 students were on grade level in the fall. And then you look at the spring and you have 148. So we got a lot of growth that moved into the green. And then if you look at the yellow, that is one grade level below. went from 160 into the fall all the way down to 125 students there. And then um the biggest bags for our bug was really where we moved our red kids as well. So if you look at that total of our scholars in the

red, we have what is that 89 students to a total of 33. So overall that is um a lot of movement that we're very proud of and we hope to continue that um for this year as well. It's talking. It's >> not working. >> Oh, there we go. >> All right. So, one of the new things that was presented um this past year was well, Mr. So, since I'm getting pied in the face, you obviously have to do something, too. So that I grand idea was let's slime you >> likeation. >> Okay. >> Slime solo. >> All right. >> So I didn't disagree. So the scholars had to get 100 lessons passed on my path. And just to put that into perspective, um if they do two lessons a week, okay, they and they hit

that 90%, they're only going to get to 70. So these kids who are getting the 100 lessons, they're going above and beyond to try and get more and more math done throughout the year. And in total, we had 37 scholars out of 310 last year who got to slim me on stage. Now, it's hard to see in those pictures, but I had a very big smile the entire time because this was probably one of the funnest days of my educational career, and I don't say that lightly. Um, but going into it, I was a little hesitant, and now I honestly can't wait to do it again. Um, what's not shown is that I did get slimed in the ear and I thought it was going deaf for about a minute. So, I was a little

worried. My heart was, you know, palpitating a little bit. I was freaking out, but then I shook it and I was all good. >> All right. >> Um, another thing that you don't see in that picture is, you know, we thought we had everything planned out except for how was I going to, you know, sort of clean myself off after this took place. So, I ended up waddling myself in a little garbage bag over to North Lake into the locker room and I had to totally change myself there. So, that was that was pretty funny. Um, but yes, that was a great day. >> And keep in mind, we did slime in April. So, the year was needed done. So, we already had 37 scholars achieve 100 uh lessons passed to slime and they continue

to far exceed that number because they went all the way until the last day. So that's kind of a big testament to them. And this year, I think we're going to try and push it to May just to see if we can get more kiddos motivated as well. So they can do both of the activities to both of us in May and we can kind of go down together again. >> One more caveat with that, we did have some extra slime left over. So we gave the teachers the option to slime up and let me tell you, they didn't get up fast enough. >> They got up, it ran out there. Oh yeah. >> It was fun. It was a good time. >> All in good fun. Um, so what did we decide to do

this year? This year we decided to streamline our SIP plan to make the action steps attainable but also similar for both grade levels. Instead of having a completely different plan for language arts and a completely different plan for math and everybody kind of having to choreograph that, we decided, let's make it uniform. Let's make it align to what the district's already doing and so that our work kind of has that uniformity. So what we're doing is we're focusing on teacher and scholar clarity around standards. So we're hoping that if teachers and students know the end destination that they are active members on that road leading up to it. And so one of the things you'll notice at Riley that we've been working on is the teachers are going through with the scholars. What are you

learning? Why are you learning it? And then how will you know that you have learned it? And the goal is that eventually that will transcend to our scholars being able to tell us the same things without it just being verbatim told them. Um we also want to be able to analyze our data. We are all about making informed instructional decisions based on what the data is telling us and not just our feelings or anecdotals. We want to go off of what are the trends that we're noticing. What can we celebrate because there's a lot to celebrate. What can we borrow if so and so is doing it great in their room and maybe I need a little assistance. how can we kind of navigate that peer observation and also if there's anything that needs intervening,

we have the data to show what it is to then be able to plan some type of PG to go ahead and intervene. Um, we want this to be tied to differentiation. We want this to be tied to scaffolding. Um, so we're we're kind of honing in on that as well. And then meaningful scholar discourse. This is not just teacher to student. We have a lot of great teacherto student conversations going on. we are really working to elevate scholar to scholar conversations um and equipping them with that knowledge and those conversational pieces. So if you take a look at these little charts we do walkthroughs we do walkthroughs monthly on different instructional components as well as a part of the block. So for example this month in October it was writing and then it was

general practices. So, we just use what's on that as our measuring tool if we're going into the rooms to see it. We can trend the monthly um progress or lack thereof. And then we know where we can celebrate and where we can intervene. And it's broken down by grade level. It's broken down by teacher. So, we can see where the trends are and what we need to do to better support our teachers, but also celebrate our teachers and what they're doing really great. So, as you can see, it's kind of broken down there. And that's what we're using to do our monthly walkthroughs. This is our one-pager sit plan. We have this all over our building. Um, it is referenced regularly at our PLC's collaborative plan. Um, if you walk through the building, you'll see

it on my door, you'll see it in our office, you'll see it in the hallways, you'll see it in the staff lounge. Um, so this is just quickly our, you know, aligned action items that we are taking uh for both reading and math. like like Miss Hendrick said, we really wanted to streamline it this year and have sort of the same action items for both ELA and math so that you know we could really focus in on that. So those action action items are you know unpacking units collaborative plan with specialists who then share um different strategies during collaborative plan. We are consistently utilizing formative and summitative assessment data to inform instruction. So that is student work, that's com checks, that's mid units, things like that. Um small group work, how is that taking place?

Um and also we are putting that at the front of our blocks to make sure that it is happening on a consistent basis because in the past we realized that it really wasn't happening. So we really made that a focus as well. And then of course studentto student discourse >> and we're actually going to do a little circle activity with all of you if you don't mind. Um, so I think because of the size of our group, we'll split kind of in half. We'll have half of the group stand up and circle up here with me. We'll have the other half of the group circle up and some of our audience if you want to get involved in there, John. Yeah, of course. Circle up to Mr. Do you mind doing a quick circle? >>

Come on over. Whoever wants to be in this side, >> do you want to go towards >> Mr. Yes. Yes. >> So, let's just do a standing circle if that's okay. Let's do a stand. Come on. I can go to you. You stay there. >> Yeah, we got this. We're improvis. There we go. Come on over. >> All right. So, circle rules. I know that district representatives are familiar with the circle rules. This is something that we do with our kiddos. And this is something that we also do with our adults. And so we thought instead of just explain it to you, let's actually participate. So there's a prompt. It's normally a check-in. Um we wanted to go a little serious but a little fun as well with you all. So the prompt is, what's

a quirky habit or ritual you have that most people would never know about you? So, going to take a moment to ponder and keep in mind the circle is a safe place. If you want to pass, you by all means can say I'm going to pass and just be a good listener. We are going to take our turns. You're going to let each person go. Okay? So, take a moment and think. >> Oh my god. correct when I get up. >> I love it. Now, we only go in order, but if we're not ready for this or >> I can't stand any similar. Seriously, I my first fight as a married couple was my husband left dirty dishes in our sink and I had a migraine went to bed in rain when I walked past.

So, we are very subtle, but that's not going to hurt. Go for it. Okay. >> Oh, I'm sorry. You're right. You gota stop. Stop. Go ahead. >> I can't even sleep. >> So, that's >> she's in the circle. >> She's 14. sugar and vegetable. >> I don't like it that doesn't bother me one bit. Um, in addition to all the doors, one of my that my children from me is I literally have to walk through if I'm the last person, the last I literally have to walk through everything. >> Let's say it out loud. Like the lights off, the strers unplugged, this is unplugged, and like I would walk through my house and go off and point to all the things. And now my kids do it when they go. I don't know if that's

cute, but it's okay. >> How quirky came to be talking. Everything's a microphone. I close the blinds >> every night before I go to bed. There are three in the living room and one in the stairway going to my bedroom. And then I open them every morning. So I've done that. >> Yeah. So >> if you don't do it by yourself, does no one else do it? >> It'll never be on like so. >> Thank you everyone. Does anyone want to pass on the share or wrap up this? >> Thank you so much. Thank you for letting us start. So feel free. We're going to go back to our seat. Thank you for sharing. Thank you. I appreciate I come up. >> So everybody thank you. Thank you everyone for participating. I hope that you

see that the point of doing that is to kind of break down some walls, right? get to know each other a little bit better. And one of our uh raptor values is being welcoming and being respectful. And so knowing these things about others, we are hoping makes everyone more accepting of others or you find commonalities that you didn't even realize that you have until a random question was posted up on screen with someone. And so we're hoping that fosters some friendships and some relationships. So this is something that we do in our houses. Um for SEAL we do quite a bit. Um so I'll have someone talk about the staff component and then I will go ahead and talk about our scholars. >> So yeah uh we do uh houses with our staff. So basically

we split our staff up into specific groups. Um we'll be doing that uh what is that next Friday. Um so yeah this will be the second house that we're going to have together and basically that's going to foster a nice sense of belonging. Um we get to hang out with different staff members that you know maybe we don't spend a lot of time with. Um we also do staff socials on a monthly basis and lounge. Let me tell you um they get competitive in there. So it seems like every week after that it seems to level up and level up after that. It's uh it's quite a sight to see. So the staff socials they go hard. Um raptor rep recognition. Um we do that every staff meeting. So basically um we have this little

raptor that gets handed out and passed along and basically you write a nice little um spiel about um one of your staff members that you appreciate about them and then that the raptor gets sent to them and they get to hold on to it for a couple weeks. Um we also have the grateful grams that Miss Hendricks started last November. Um, so you fill out a a Google form basically about your staff members that you are grateful for and then uh she goes ahead and she prints those out and then hands them out to you uh right before you go on Thanksgiving break. So you get you get this whole sheet or two of like all these random messages about you know how everybody is grateful for you as a as a contributor. And then

um last year we also had our north side school staff showdown. So, that was a a little competitive uh trivia uh thing that we did at the end of the year to to get everybody together. >> If I may, the one thing about raptor recognition that's pretty cool is it can go to any staff member. So, we've had our lunch ladies earn it. We've had our custodians earn it. So, you can literally nominate any staff member to receive it. And Riley has also gotten swings and signs and t-shirts made based on the owner and the scholars that are celebrating with that owner. So Riley has evolved, I have to say, which is incredible. Something that we do with our scholars is something similar to what we just did. We try to do houses with our

scholars once a month. It's a brand new initiative at Riley this year. We've never done it before. Our houses are mixed with third, fourth, and fifth graders. We are hoping that this will help kind of create some relationships with our scholars with kiddos in different grade levels. We also have three teachers that are in charge of one house and these three teachers don't normally work together every day. So we thought that was another way to build a community and get to know your colleagues in a different um they are auntu themed. We went to Ally Hearn last year and Ally Hearn is really into the work of Abuntu and basically it's all about interconnectedness, right? Like what I do impacts you, what you do impacts me, what we do impacts the Riley community. And so

we really want our scholars to kind of see how we are all one big family. Um and so a lot of the lessons are tied to that. And so, um, one of our sayings that we're going to dive into is I am being because we are righty and together we more. And those are our raptor values that every lesson is tied back to. So, it has to tie back to being responsible, accountable, welcoming, and respectful. Um, we obviously do our character counts and win at social and seven steps. And then for attendance this year, I have to say I'm pretty proud of this. is if you take a look at that bottom right graphic, that is our attendance as of Thursday of last week. So, if you take a look at that, the light green

or the dark green, excuse me, the dark green represents that 90 um scholars that are attending 95% or more of the school days this year to be considered college and career readiness. We have 68 scholars within that group. we have in the light green which is the 17% is they're attending 90% of the school days to be considered college and career ready. And then if you take a look at the yellow it's 80% and then the red is less than. I'm happy to say in the red we only have seven and three out of the seven have special circumstances to attend their absences um because we really look into that. But we made a rat pack. It sound like the fun one. It's the Riley Attendance Accountability Team but we thought it's a cool name.

Um, and the RAP pack went into work really fast this year. We looked at attendance from last year. We looked at returning Riley scholars. We already made a group for anyone who was considering 18 or more. And we had 80 80 one minute meetings with anyone who had 10 or more absences already this year. We already reached out to families. We already offered support. We already offered a routine. We already offered camaraderie. Our first attendance group just wrapped their first five weeks. um we have an entire system in place of how to intervene but I do think the one biggest change last year we had a rotation the first the teacher calls after that it goes to my team and then we do a cycle again and again it was too hard to track we

were not following through this year the thing that I do think is attributing to that beautiful little graphic in the bottom corner that data piece is our teachers reach out every single absence and then the rat pack does the work behind the scenes So I do think that them reaching out and showing care and showing concern makes the scholar know that they're valued and makes the parent know that they're supported. So I have to say that I do think that's attributing to that looking that way um already in the school. So it is a team effort and we are grateful for the team that we do have and that is all folks. Stop. >> So, when your next presentation, >> what's that? >> When your next presentation. >> Whenever you want me back. >> All

right. >> Whenever you want me back. >> We'll circle up again. You know, the follow on the circle with the children how they put. >> So, their prompts are a little less intense. Like their prompts would be from like the first five websites where there may be um for example, we did like French fries. Are you feeling like a curly fry today? Are you feeling like a waffle fry? And underneath it will be you're feeling like a waffle fry because you I don't know, you woke up like you're feeling like a curly fried travel all over the place. So theirs are a little bit more age appropriate. And to be honest with you, we normally have in scholar houses like three different check-ins and they love them. >> So they really engage with that. And

sometimes in the morning during breakfast, we'll have a prompt up on the big screen so that they can have a conversation with whoever they're having breakfast with or with us. They can say like we can walk up and be like, "Hey, how you feeling today? You feeling like, you know, what are you Toy Store? Are you feeling like so and so?" And like we get a gauge of what the vibe is that morning with the group as well. So we do these constantly to the point where they're pretty much used to it at this point. >> Yeah. One of the big debates was like Johnny Rancher flavors. Oh yeah, that was that was that was one more work where it was a pretty hot topic to page. >> And they get into it. >> They

really do. >> That was my next question about participation. >> Yeah, they get into it. And then obviously like with our team members when they host groups, they go into some of the deeper ones. And to be honest with you, our kiddos are not shy to share. We they rarely get passes. They normally all engage in some aspect. Um, so I do think that it does work wonders for the teachers and it works wonders for the kids to just get to know each other. I mean, look at how much you learn just about our little in what, two minutes. It goes a long way. You know, we're hoping that when you know each other's story, you're less likely to hurt one another so that we can have a better community. >> We did learn a

lot about Miss >> You know what? I thought MORE EVEN MORE AFTER THAT. I think that's a testament to like our Riley staff that's just very welcoming for all of our scholars regardless if they're instructing them or not. Um our kids just feel comfortable around everybody in the club. >> Well, it come you guys and you presented today I can imagine kids just rally around us. So thank you and great job >> and we are going to have you back. >> Okay. >> Right. Have them back. Right. >> Yes sir. We'll have them back. Watch the field taste me get pat in the face. There's slime sauce. But >> that's a seat, bro. Just kind of wear a guard because it does go everywhere. >> I mean, that was fun. >> Honestly, they look forward

to it. So, if we can sustain that momentum, I will take whipped cream pie all day. >> Yeah. >> Love, love. >> Big thank you. Okay. So, moving right along. Great job. Once again, can I get a vote? A motion to go into close session? >> Yes. >> Okay. Mer roll call, please. >> I >> Mason. >> Hi, >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> How? >> Hi. >> Motion carries. >> We'll go into close session. How long it's going to be? I don't know. Just relax. Don't leave the producers. Call you back in a few. Thanks everybody. >> Thank you. Federation of um it was a recap. I did not attend myself. I was little on weather. But I am submitting the report for the record. So clear any food service. Anything about the food service?

>> All is well. Miss Walker >> just a reminder about joint conference in Chicago. >> Right. Mr. Jackson been doing a great job following Chev reports. there. >> Okay. We had he facilities uh meeting so we're good there. Is that something? >> Um just um attended with Dr. Suz banquet. It was very lovely. At our table we sat with other board members. I believe it was the range and hillside. >> Yes. And um we were able to witness our West Cook County teacher of the year, a beautiful beautiful it was a teacher from East Sliden. Um it was just such a great beautiful presentation. It was really nice to mingle with some of our our neighbors or uh in the evening and and get a little bit of feedback insight. >> And they gave some

commercials for the triple eye conference as Mrs. Walker just shared and Mrs. Espinosa. That's why you have that color copy at your your table. And uh well, we could just do this right now. Um our primary delegate is Mrs. Mason >> and an alternate would be Miss Walker. Is it the will of the board? And could I consensus of the board that Mrs. Walker would be our alternate and Mrs. Mason would be our friend? >> Consensus from the board. >> Thank you. I'll submit that on behalf of the district. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Okay. Superintendent reports new business. >> Okay. So for um superintendent um we ask that the board accept the licensed personnel um as presented and uh that begins with we have a leave of absence for um Miss Papis, Mr.

Roia, Miss Denny, Miss Lel, Miss Boscher, Miss Mikakus, and Miss James. We ask that the board accept the um leaves of leave of absence requests for licensed personnel as presented. >> Get a motion. Mr. Jackson and Minosa. Roll call, please. >> Hi. >> Walker. Hi. Mason. >> Hi. >> Jackson. Hi. >> Motion carried. Educational support staff employment. We ask that the board employ the following personnel pending all employment paperwork. Vanessa Anulo cross categorical future at North Lake effective October 27th, 2025. Brianna West Morland, pre kindergarten special education teacher. Lydier, effective October 16th, 2025. and Javon Holmes PM custodian Sunnyside effective October 22nd 2025 as presented in a motion >> say a teacher >> uh it should be pre kindergarten special education teacher aid at Whittier. Thank you Mr. Jackson. effective October 16th, 2025. >> The

record final correction made right. So, we're good. Okay. I get a motion. Miss Walker and Mr. Jackson. Roll call, please. >> I >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> Mason. >> Hi, >> Walker. I miss >> I motion carries. >> Educational support staff leave of absence. We ask that the board approve the educational support staff leave of absence requests as presented for Claudia Garcia and Maisha Bass. >> Get a motion. The second and Miss Mason. >> Roll call, please. >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> Mason. >> Hi. >> Walker. >> Hi. >> Misspelosa. >> Hi. >> Iard. >> Hi. >> Motion carried. >> Educational support staff resignations. We ask that the board accept the resignation of the following personnel. Daisy Perez, clerical aid at North Lake Middle School, effective October 3rd, 2025. Laura Pyen Estrada, lunchroom monitor at

Whittier, effective October 14th, 2025. And uh Briana West Morland, Greek K, special education teacher assistant at Whittier, dated October 20th, 2025. >> Motion, Miss Walker, and Mr. Jackson. Roll call, please. >> Espenos. >> I Tyler. Hi >> Jackson. >> Hi >> Walker. I Mason. >> Hi. >> Motion carried. >> Approve our e-learning program. Um earlier we had the public hearing that was held for the proposal of the e-learning program. We ask that the board of education approve the e-learning program for the 2025 through 2028 school years as presented. >> I got a motion. Miss Einosa and Miss Walker. Roll call, please. >> Mason. I >> I Tower. >> Hi, >> Miss Bossa. >> Hi, >> Jackson. >> Hi, >> Walker. >> Hi. >> Motion carried. >> For a memo of understanding with the Berkeley Education

Association, we ask that, as we discussed in close session, we ask that the board of education approve the memo of understanding for the position of library media specialist with the Berkeley Education Association as presented. >> I got a motion, Mr. Jackson and Missa. Roll call, please. >> Iard >> I. >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> Mason. >> Hi. >> Walker. >> Hi. >> Mr. Nosa. >> I. Walker and Mr. Jack. Roll call, please. >> Minosa. >> Hi. >> Walker. >> Hi. Mason. I >> Jackson. >> Hi, >> Tower. >> Hi. >> Motion carries. >> As discussed in

close session, we ask that the board of education approve the memorandum of understanding with the Berkeley Education Association for the position of instructional coach as presented. >> Motion, Mr. Jackson and Miss Walker. Roll call, please. >> Hi. >> To. >> Mr. Nosa. >> Hi. >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> Mason. >> Hi. >> Walker. >> Hi. >> Motion carried. And uh for fundraisers, we ask that the board approve the following fundraisers and donations as presented. Jefferson, Sunnyside, and MacArthur PTO. Domino's Pizza fundraiser, January 12th through uh excuse me, January 12th, 2026 through January 23rd, uh 2026. I think that says 25. It should be 26. Let me correct that as presented. Thank you. >> Okay, got a motion, Mr. Jackson. The mission motion coper >> I Mason >> I >> Jackson >> motion car. >> And

then from my oral report I just wanted to uh thank the board again for um uh allowing our leaders of our schools to be able to share their progress on their school improvement plans. And we are experiencing growth in all of our schools. One area that our data is suggesting we need to really improve on is our special education group of students. We had more growth last year than this year. And so that we're looking at that closely. We'll be back in touch with more information on that. You should have information on the holiday retirement party coming up on Friday, def December 5th. If the board of education members can attend, that would be greatly appreciated. Um, also we have been checking in with our students and our staff regarding the uh different challenges this

school year such as immigration and coming to school, all of those topics. So, I want to just inform the board that even though our attendance is very good and as Mrs. Hendrickx was talking about, we do know that this is impacting a lot of our families and we continue to work with our families uh on a case-byase basis and it's a touchy subject, but they do trust us. They know we care and we have had a lot of success stories, but it's still another factor in just getting ready to learn and I want to thank the board for their help with that and uh we already covered our delegate. So that's the end of my report unless there are any questions. >> We'll report the information. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Any questions? >>

Uh I do have one about um special education. Um if we've been looking into it, what are we doing different this year as opposed to last year? What do we think is possibly that we're fall a little short for those kids this year? >> Well, we are looking at a couple of things. One is uh as you heard Mrs. Hendricks talk about that collaborative planning and that there's consistency throughout reading and math about how we are approaching learning. We also are digging into the data about our inclusion students versus our crossc cat students. So crosscat means self-contained special education and inclusion they're out in with the general education population and we're trying to look at what what's going on there because generally speaking I say generally speaking your special education teacher what they offer is

they are learning specialists. they specialize in learning strategies. So, it's it can be a challenge to be a learning specialist and a content specialist. So, we know that that is something to to look at. So, we're looking at our inclusion students are with content specialists most of their day. So, they should be with teachers that have the content knowledge. So, we're looking at both categories. The other thing we're looking at too is also making sure we're implementing our best practices for multilingual education. I want to say is it approximately 50% >> 50% of students are all school. So they're dy identified students. Um, most recently I worked with our our special education coach to design professional development for our cross teachers and our special our inclusion teachers. And one of the areas of focus that

we've uh spent the day on is really breaking down and focusing on what are the explicit standards like for this particular unit of instruction. the explicit standards that students are expected to pass through or they'll be exposed to regarding crosscap specifically and then inclusion, what they're expected to have access to. And we really looked at and spent time on what are the accommodations and scaffolds that those students need and being intentional in that. And so we walked them through a process and protocol that they could utilize moving forward um and being very intentional in planning that and they brought the resources that we've provided for them. Um there's different professional development professional books that have different strategies and tools that they can access. So we taught them a process that they can utilize moving forward

um in their classrooms or with their teams. And um one of the things that we discussed is really being intentional about what things that students meet. Well, they need access to all of our grade level standards, right? But then what things with a crosscast student do they must they take all the way to like say publication? What things do we need to make intentional around if they need to do with guided support? And then what things are we going to file? So how are we going to make those intentional decisions? and how what data is needed in order to do that. And then from a inclusionary standpoint, taking a look at how are we going to deliver that with the classroom teacher and then how do we when do we put the sample in place?

When do we take the sample away? When do we bring that back? And what does that look like? And what is also good for the inclusion student may also be just as an effective strategy for a legal student or all students. And so really thinking about how you can set up that collaboration where their voice lies in that collaboration with their um rest of their grade level teachers. So that's one of the things that we um have in place. One of the other things that we started this year is working with West 40. We have um one of our West 40 colleagues um coming in and providing professional development for our pair professionals for special education. She comes every single um half day early day to provide support training to them as well as um

coaching to our special education teachers throughout the year. So those are two three I guess things that are different this year. But additionally, we are coming together. We talked about it last week on Wednesday with our principal teams trying to brainstorm some additional opportunities to be more intentional those >> and it's a time where adaptive visionary leadership is needed because we believe >> here in district 87 we believe our special education children can learn. >> Yeah. And we believe that if you have a disability, we still need to work with you so you can become as independent as you possibly can be. So we don't believe in a like a deficit approach. You learn a different way. >> We utilize their assets. >> Yeah. >> You see a stick around my things that start with

the crown, not with the kid. Crown's the standards. So how do we bring kid up to the crown, not the other way around? So that's something that we have talked a lot about in our district that standards are the crown and all of our kids need to rise up today regardless of demographic or situation we teach all kids. >> So we're going to be meeting with some princ with our principles assistant principles Dr. Spataphor um our entire team here to strategize some of our next steps because we take the assessment again the AR in um March. >> Yeah. So the clock is ticking and uh we're we feel that our children can grow. >> I will say uh uh population 50% jump this year. >> So we doing something right over there too. They won't

talk to them. That might be the biggest. >> Yeah. You know, it's funny how things go in a year and and we we want to be consistent. We we went and we got an award last year. >> Yeah. I mean, we had a huge jump in our special education population last year and then now we're seeing some decline this from the year before. um we had a huge jump and then we had a decline last year. So we're trying to peel back. Yeah. So in FY24, >> which was the previous year, we had a huge jump and then we got our scores. This year we saw the decline. So >> we're trying to tease that out. >> But a good idea is a good idea. So we'll see what 88 is doing. And we can

we can report right now. I know the scores have not been released yet, so I have to be careful what I say. But North Lake they their special education group. >> Yes. >> Grew a lot. So now we need to find out what are they doing? >> Slight drop. >> Yeah. >> Intermediate elementary. >> Anything on that? >> Thank you. >> Right. So we had NC day um on Friday the 24th while ago but um and it was a great day. Um in fact I had two teachers who don't normally normally really you know come up to me and say anything specific one said it was the best institute day that they have experienced and this teacher has been in our institute for around 12 years. Um and the other one is really kind of

quiet. and he was like that presentation went really well did a great job. So um I think that our team really enjoyed it. We focused on the next steps in our continuous improvement journey. So you know we started with laying that foundation of our tier one. We needed to get you know kind of our curriculum in place. We put systems around data or PLC's and now it's really all about that instruction. So, as you know, I was very fortunate that um I was able to go to the visible learning conference um this past summer. So, we spent a lot of time talking about John Hett's research and visible learning and connecting it to also the work we're doing with Jimmy Casses and looking at what are those instructional strategies. So, in John Henny's research, I'm

just going to give a quick quick synopsis. He analyzes what he calls a meta analysis. So he gathers an all the research that's out there and then analyzes it. And his biggest question was anything we do most in most classrooms makes an impact on learning. But what are the things that make an impact to accelerate learning? So40 is the effect size. So anything above 4 tends to accelerate learning. And so we spent the day really talking and learning about um his four big ideas um about climate instruction, knowing your impact. So measuring your impact, but also collective responsibility. And so, and then we're layering in uh the instructional strategies and knowing how and when to use them and how to balance in between and layer them in throughout your lessons. Um, we talk about the

gradual release responsibility. So I do it, we do it, you do it, and what that model looks like in terms of instruction and how to um interle that across their lessons. And so we're kind of and all of that is tied to our school and group plans. And so we really focused on that this time and also continued our restorative practices work circle similarly they participated in earlier and our uh facilities team did an amazing job setting everything up tearing everything down getting moving in and out as the um day went on and once again nutritional services knocked it out of the park. We were it was u pumpkin spice and everything nice. So had all my favorite foods. We had pumpkin pie and these little like tiny little glasses, these little slices of pumpkin

pie. We had butternut squash, little shot glasses of soup, and we had cider. We had apple nachos, slices of apples with they just knocked out a for our staff. So it was great. Of course, we had um you know, teachers like raffle prizes. So we had all kinds of fun, you know, raffle prizes. Dr. Sullivan even got a crown. >> I won >> won. We'll do the agenda random throughout the day. >> Um and so I think we had a really great day of learning together. It was awesome. >> Everyone pitched in and everyone helped and was wonderful. >> No, that's all that I have. >> Any questions? >> Good job. I think it's such a good compliment. get a feedback from like a 10 year plus teacher or one of our veterans says I

think it's important to keep them motivated, keep them excited. So that's always a wonderful couple. That's nice to hear too. >> That's very good. Appreciate it. >> Yeah. Okay. Summary of budget, state of position and the student activity reports for the period ending September 30th, 2025 are provided for your information. And then our third item is a request for approval to loan the debt service fund 2.7 million from the working cash fund due to the delay of the property taxes. Um, so we're have a temporary loan from the working cash funds necessary to ensure the district will meet its debt service obligations. We anticipate receiving the property tax revenue in January and at that time alone will be repaid in full. We ask that the board of education approve the resolution authorizing the township treasurer

to transfer 2.7 million from the working cash fund to the debt service fund to be repaid upon the collection of property taxes as presented. Most should be on. Enjoy the revolution. Please Sorry, it should be 2.4 million. >> Thank you. >> Read it. >> Yes, please. >> Um, we ask that the board of education approve a resolution authorizing the township treasur to transfer 2.4 4 million from the working cash fund to the debt service fund as a short-term loan to be repaid upon collection of property to revenue as presented. >> Got a motion, Mr. Jackson and Miss Walker. Roll call, please. >> I sa >> I >> Walker. >> Hi. >> Jackson. >> I >> Mason. >> Hi. >> Motion carried. >> That's an item. regarding our tenative levy. So each year the district files

a certificate of tax levy with the county clerk is requested for property tax revenues. The final levy will be presented to the board in December 2025. The tenative levy is in your board pack for your review. between now and December. I'll continue to monitor and refine the levy um for additional financial data as it becomes available. Currently, the tax agency report with the final extension for 2024 has not been received yet. We have a draft report and we're also awaiting information regarding any new property that may be placed in the tax roles that might affect the levy. and if necessary operating revise a tenative levy to the board in November. The tenative levy reflects an increase based on the property the CPI of 2.9%. We're requesting a levy of 26 million2,000. While the total requested

right now in exhibit one in your packet exceeds the CPI of 2.9, it's allowable and provides flexibility for adjustments. Based on our current estimates, exhibit two represent more than what we will more than likely uh receive with the current extension with that percentage. And this year, I've asked for an increase in the transportation fund levy due to the increased costs and the decreased revenue there. These figures are pretty preliminary until further notice. Um, so the suggested motion is that the board of education approve the tenative 2025 property tax levy as presented. >> I got a motion. Mr. Jackson, Miss Roll call, please. >> Jackson, >> I cover. >> Hi, >> Mason. >> Hi, >> Walker. Hi, Missa. I motion carried. >> Our next item relates to the approval of the application for the school maintenance

agreements. >> A requirement by Isby to have the board approved the application. This is a 5050 matching grant that we're going to be using for the uh it's for maintenance and facility improvement projects. We're using it specifically for the energy efficiency project that we talked about last month for the lighting and we are asking for 46,55250 and the suggested motion is that the board of education approved the submission of the Illinois State Board of Education school maintenance grant application for the electrical lighting project and authorize the administration to execute and file all required documents as presented A motion M. Jackson and Miss Walker. Roll call, please. >> Walker. Hi. Heard. >> Hi. >> Missa. >> Hi. >> Jackson. >> Hi. >> Mason. >> Hi. >> Motion carried. >> And the next motion is um to

approve the tax settlement discussed in close session. The suggested motion is that the board of education approve the tax element for the tax rate of fairness from 2020 to 2022 as presented and discussed in close session. >> I get a motion and Mr. Jackson roll call please. >> Mason. I >> Espinosa I Walker >> I >> Jackson >> I motion carries >> for the motions at my oral report I attended the quarterly meeting of the township of the board of trustees of the town of school treasures and I'm pleased to report that they had an annual audit and it was clean with no findings that was good news additionally three new districts have um integrated into fully integrated now into the township. That's Pleasant Dale 107, Lraange Highlands 106, and Lraine School District 105. So

that brings our township to 17 total school districts. now and our next quarterly meeting schedule for January 15th, 2026. Uh turning to our first district financials, we're experiencing a period where our inflow of revenue is less than our outflow of expenditures, which is unusual for us, but that's of course due to the lack of Cook County property taxes. Um the first quarter expenditures were approximately 10 10,900,000 and the revenues total 6,300,000. So we were short about 4.5 million. Last year at the end of September, our revenues exceeded our expenditures by approximately 8.8 million, but we do anticipate that this is going to be cleaned up in January. So, we'll just have to keep moving with using u some of our other funding. On the state front, um the Illinois controller released all the categorical payments.

So, that's all of our state grants were released and only a couple of the federal funds have not been re reimbured as of yesterday, but we're hoping that they're going to be by the end of this month. And that was for the uh like 27,000 for the school breakfast program and 13,000 for the natural school clubs program. But we had plenty of the months to to get those reconciled hopefully. And the business office will submit the final expenditure reports for the project year 25 grants in November for reimbursement. till we to get those by the end of November and then at the end of this month our interest income from investments will be posted. The results are lower than the prior year or the prior quarter I'm sorry from April through June we earned 703,000

across all funds and from July through September this quarter we earn about 540 a decrease of about 162,000 well it's still strong um the interest environment is is changing and also the loss of interest due property taxes 12. So there's a consequence to that. And then on other notes, our architects have been working on the tenure life safety plan and that is going to be due in December to Iowa's and they've been visiting the buildings and will provide a draft for us next month. And then finally, I'd just like to highlight our commitment to professional development with our staff um for cross trainining and our district office staff, Jessica Alicron, Patty Gonzalez, and Raven Terry from the business office. All went to professional uh development training at our financial system so they could be crossrained.

And then this week, Lette Flores, Vanessa Chavez, and Noami Diaz will be attending Skyward training. So they could uh expand their expertise in that. That's the end of my report. Any questions? >> Questions? >> No questions. >> Thank you. >> Moving on. >> Miss Travis, you're up. >> All right. Listed on my oral report are our vacancies. We have six certified uh physicians and 13 support staff positions that we have to fill. Um I attended the ISU career fair, the fall educator career fair. It was a great fair. Uh this year I was in the fall. you usually don't have that many candidates, but it was really well attended by um fall graduates and some of the main graduates coming out and they had a nice amount of special education candidates. What ISU has done

is they have the students like wear a lanyard and based on the color of um they have a ribbon you can tell what their major is. And so special education everybody's looking for but that one is red but they had different colors and so it was really awesome and they had a variety of candidates. I spoke to about 20 students and collected about 25 resumes as always I invite them to come out during their winter break or Thanksgiving break. And so far um I just counted I emailed about 20 of them. four of them have taken me up so far on the uh I know there are student teaching and beginning so I'll send another reminder but looking forward to the four that will come um during winter break and before actually the teachers and

the students leave so that'll be good to see our schools in action which is really great because kids are there teachers are there principals are there so they can already make um some connections and there for two students. Uh, one who was a former North Lake student. He's becoming a teacher. And it was so funny as I was speaking to him, I'm looking at him and I have this thing when I see former students, my mind looks at them as an adult, but it actually goes over and remembers them as a kid. And so for him, the more I talk to him, the more I could see him. I said, "We've actually interacted before. I remember you when you were a kid at North Lake in his in his face." Um, but he was very

excited. So I send Dr. Mon a message that you have a a future teacher here and he's graduating in December. So I told him to come and sign up so he can sub and get experience that way. >> So very excited. And then the other young lady is from our community. She did not go to our school. She actually went to Belle, but she remembered meeting me last year and she came back to see me and she is also graduating in December. So I invited her to come and go on a tour and to stuff. So sorry district 88, but I'm getting there. Uh so it was really really great um career fair. Um ISU they do an amazing job and it really helped us all. We were all leaving just saying how it was

such a great fair. This year was more students there. So we feel kind of, you know, hopeful that we're beginning to see a turn in the amount of people going to education, but ISU set the stage for the other, you know, career fairs coming up. So it was a really just a great great day. Um, and then last but not least, tomorrow is our flu shot clinic for Berkeley 87. So, it will take place for our employees who receive our benefits from 3 to 5:00 pm. So, looking forward to that. It's always a great time and they appreciate us hosting it. Um, well, I have a goal to have one on the north campus cuz it's here and on the south campus, but we have to get enough participants. So, I'm going have to send

out a survey just to make sure because you we do have a quota. We have to meet on both sides otherwise the district has to pass. So, but yes. Any questions? >> Any questions, Travis? >> No questions. >> Well, Mrs. Travis, you made me think of this. I think we recommended for hire tonight and the board approved Miss Angulo. I believe she went to North Lake. >> Yes, >> she as a teacher assistant. I just thought of that. So, that's growing our own again. So, thank you, Mrs. Travis, for that. >> Yeah, absolutely. And they're very excited to come back, too. She did go to North Lake and she said uh Dr. Modi was her principal. So she is really excited. She's like using my friends and now he's going to be my boss. That's

what she shared with me. >> So thank you so much. It's happening more and more which is very exciting that our students are coming back and I really try to tell them to make sure they make the connections and share their stories with the students that are sitting there so that that can help us continue to have future teachers and teacher assistants that come back to work. We'll go you first. Um just a few updates um from our health team. Um our nurse did a veteran's job this year. Um they had to meet the requirements for the physicals and the vaccinations and even with the challenges now of not having some of the same community resources such as the Leola van that funding was cut. Um our nurses were able to reach out to different

clinics in the community to find out where our babies go to make sure we stay um got their physicals in and their ination. So they did a great job and we're just kind of adapting to where we are in our community right now to see what other resources that we have. So very commendable both of them for that. We know Dr. Sman said we want attendance. We want our children to be here. We didn't want excluded. And then we are seeking um two candidates for our nursing team at this time. And then nurse Lynn is working with Endeavor Health in Alhurst. um we met a trainer who does staff of lead training and she offered to uh provide that um with our staff. Um so we're going to be working with them and then also

some of our first responders are trainers. So we are looking to look at some of our options for some optional training before our staff to learn more about using the tourniquets and things in the shop of the kits those bags that I showed you a few months ago. Um so that's very nice that we're going to be able to work with our community um partners like a democra she's looking into setting up those dates um for special education um like um Miss Zimmerman said we are working with West 40 um with paraport support and then behavior um supports and we welcomed 30 new students um with special needs this school year so far and we do have the findings from the review that we did last year and we can provide um a review of

summary of the findings from that review from last year. You like a board presentation like a PowerPoint or if you like a report, we can discuss how you like us to share those findings. And then for preschool, we have um another screening in November. This is probably one of the busiest years we've had since probably co um that they're really starting to pick up that traction and have a bunch more screenings. Uh so we do anticipate that we'll be at full capacity very soon and uh we do appreciate that um with our grant funding we were able to provide more um parro support in our preschool classrooms which is really helpful for our students with special needs and our numbers have drastically dropped in the number of children that we were out placing versus the

students that are staying with us and I think that's because of the extra supports. We're very very h happy for that grant opportunity. Uh for school safety, we held our meeting um in October um with a designate from each school so we can collaborate together mostly focusing on any new changes or updates and then also how we want to work together and have like the the drills. So we're all doing them the same way. We have the same lesson plans. We have consistency in our communication plan. So each school is sending a designated meeting monthly to kind of look at the maximum ahead and what drills we're going to do and maybe how we would do those together ideas for the different schools. And our site assessments are now all completed for all six schools.

And so then next um board meeting, John and I can give you a summary like we did before for the other schools. uh we can give you a summary on what some of the findings were and then what John and I are considering as some of the additional next steps that >> questions. >> Any questions? >> Thank you. John says she was call you up. >> Um so we did recently sell three vehicles that we have listed for sale. Um those have all been picked up and been moved. Um so that was that was good. Um we're getting really excited to move forward with the lighting project um so that we can start kind of save some of our energy costs um you know moving forward. So, um the we'll have a meeting scheduled with

our architects and controls that um to go over a lot of concerns and issues that we've been currently experiencing um the last four, five months or so. Uh just really trying to get the system, you know, dial and working better to create a more comfortable space for uh with our staff. Um we in the past month um our maintenance team has been doing a great job and completing work orders. Um the past month they've closed um 117 work orders. Um and I really look forward to looking into more of the the data to see what our problem areas are um when it comes to some of the the issues that come up. Um our we have our boiler planks are electronics to begin the heating season. Um which is great. Um we're starting to get

some for evenings mornings. Um so just trying to maintain the best nice warm atmosphere. Uh we're going to start working on the solo equipment just to ensure that it's ready for the winter season because the white fluff is going to be coming. But uh and then one of the last things, as you probably all know, we pulled into the parking lot this evening. Um, but we installed some temporary speed bumps um from basically from the entrance here past MacArthur and Sunnyside uh to try and help slow down the traffic that's in front of the buildings. Um we've noticed on countless occasions people just fly into the parking lot they have any regard for safety or anything like that. So um trying to do a little bit of a temporary deterrent to see if those slow

people down. Um we are have to remove them in the winter time so that they don't get, you know, clogged up and pushed into the snow bank. Um, but then after winter, we're going to put them back out again. Um, you know, if it if it's really helping, then maybe we'll look into a a permanent um solution. >> Any questions? >> The report. Thank you, Miss Barn. You're up, sir. >> Thank you. We began interviews for the database system specialist position. So we did that today and we'll continue those throughout the week. So some good candidates today. This time of the year is when we have to do a lot of our state reporting. So we have state reports for multi-in learners or students with special needs. We have what's called a fall housing enrollment.

So it's snapshot that state takes um and bases a lot of decision making on. So support that is accurate and done to completion. So working on that this time of year as I'm learning I haven't been too involved with this in the past and provided the high school are asking for a lot of information specifically for our eighth grade students. Um they want to know a lot of information about the students so they could plan accordingly for their high school transition and get a hold of all the families. So working on that. Um as uh Mr. consumer been talking about institute tape. We had a session focused on panorama which is a system used for our SEO surveys as well as a component called student success which is a data warehouse that we are exposing

some more staff members to. This data warehouse shows information on dependence and behavior and grades assessment data as well. So the system is designed to have a holistic picture of our scholars including that component to help with um decision making and then as um I mentioned uh Skyward conference is Wednesday and Thursday. Um so we have Flores, Vanessa, Vanessa Chavez. >> Yeah. and let me start with my name's got mixed up there and myself be going for two days um focusing on the many aspects of Skyward so it's going to be hard to be awake for a few days but um as we talked about we value involvement and hopefully it'll be the end of my >> any questions new business no other new business announcements. Next record board mean Dennis will be on >>

th. Watch this. >> Did I get a motion to adjourn? You can put You can put a consensus, please. >> Hi, >> Jackson. >> Hi, >> Mason. Iford Espinosa. >> Thanks everybody. >> Thank you very much.
