video the seventh grade stem from avido martinez we sure do thank you president quigley one of our favorite things to do is spotlight our staff and our students and all the amazing things they do this spotlight this evening of staff member miss yasmin medina combinat is a combination of the two she's a former graduate who has returned to valley view as an educator so we're very pleased to present her in the spotlight this evening we believe working out of these books so you're going to get a book like this that has three hole puncher writing so you can put it in a binder why did i want to become a teacher i had so many great teachers especially here at avm that inspired me more to be want to be a teacher i wanted to
be a teacher since i was so small i played school with my brother all the time um but when i came here i really had a lot of great teachers the one that stands out the most is miss aisha she was an ela teacher she was amazing she really made it personable made it feel like me and her had a connection beyond just her being my teacher so it just made it great to know that i had someone here to come and talk to share with us the thought that was going through your mind as you were walking down the hallway toward your classroom door and for the first time you saw the name plate next to the door that said ms medina i just had to stop and stare i didn't i i've been
in the mentality that i'm still a student and i will forever be a learner so like that's a side but like i still i was just like oh i'm like now it's it's me i'm the one who's going to be up front that's my classroom i can say they are my students and because you seem like oh yeah me and my mentor teacher students or me and somebody else's students but they're my students i get to teach them i get to talk with them build the relationship build the community in my classroom that i've always wanted and the community in my classroom that somebody else has shown me how to create so it's just it's so great i'm so happy i love setting it up in a way that it's like students know when they
walk in that this is our classroom this is for us and i'm in front of that i'm the captain it's so great it is our classroom so anything that you make in this class or in any other class that you love so much i would gladly cut it out i have so much wall space i have an entire little wall there that i haven't filled it so anything you make this is our classroom whatever makes you feel comfortable let me know and i'm sure i can find a place to put it up for us at some point and i would imagine this happened to you last year when you were a senior in college that realization hits you that i need to go find a job so what was that moment like when you were
informed you're hired at avm i got the call and they told me i was in the building so i was like i'm not too far you could have told me in person it's okay but then they walked down and they talked to me and it was just like yeah you got yourself like oh okay great and i hung up and i was like i got the job i i turned to my mentor miss perry here or kim perry and she was just like i got it i'm like it's great and um she's like oh that's awesome and we just i just feel that like it's excitement it was pure excitement that's it it was just happiness it felt like a stress off of my shoulders i had gone through all that schooling and i'm just
like this is it this this is it it was kind of like part one of part two of seeing my door my name on the door so it was so fantastic [Applause] down the agenda miss kinder consent agenda uh yes sir we have four agenda items under consent this evening 6.1 board meeting minutes from august 9th 2021 6.2 executive session meeting minutes august 9 2021 6.3 student activity contract request irene king elementary with perfect pastries and 6.4 resolution 2203 authorizing valley view to approve intervention in certain tax appeal cases through motion so moved second motion second any discussion hearing none seeing none roll cover please member peril yes member venegas yes member campbell yes secretary sakura yes president quigley yes liaison reports from my right liz nothing from my left i have just one minor
general assembly uh legislative update the illinois general assembly is convening on the 31st of august they're going to be discussing the remap supposedly voting on some kind of new new map maps and the possibility of voting on an energy package as well as a couple other smaller legislative issues that have risen this summer that's all i have for that audience participation is there anybody in the audience who wishes to address the board this evening if so please come up state your name where are you from and we would ask that you limit your comments to four to five minutes please come on up hi my name is melissa davis and i am here to speak to everyone about sb0818 which governor prickster just signed into law on august 20th the law is supposed to take
effect immediately i'm not sure what you guys are going to do about that um so i'm just curious but for those of you don't know what it is it requires illinois public and charter schools to teach comprehensive personal health and safety education in grades k through 5 and comprehensive sexual health education in grades 6 through 12. on the surface that seems innocent enough but when you look into comprehensive personal health and safety education you realize there's nothing innocent about it it actually destroys are children's innocence comprehensive personal health and safety means age and developmentally appropriate education that aligns with the national sex education standards what are those standards well if you go to siecus.org which is the national sex education website it says by fifth grade third the fifth graders by the end of fifth
grade they should be able to recall the human reproductive system including the external internal parts body parts and their functions by the end of fifth grade they should explain common human sexual development and the role of masturbating yeah for your third or fifth graders guys they also want to teach them about anal sex and oral sex they should know by that by the end of fifth grade because that's important then it also is uh explaining the relationship between sexual intercourse and human reproduction explain the rays the ways that a pregnancy can occur why is it abstinence that's not any of the stuff that i'm seeing no instead it's all this other stuff when when you're going to do this instruction the kid's going to be separated by gender because part of it is gender equality
so if someone that's male biologically decides i want to be female today you're going to put them in there with them if don't if you don't then you're violating their civil rights but then you have these boys who are in there with these girls for the female parts and stuff and i don't think that's appropriate i don't think it's appropriate to be taught in schools period but it is what it is because that should be something that should be taught at home since when is standard teaching third to first graders how to masturbate and what oral anal sex are shouldn't be standard if it's standard then parents should have the right to see and hear what's going on in the classroom at all times last year we did revoke learning so technology's there for there
to be cameras in the classroom for us to have visibility and transparency to see what goes on unlike aaron's law they don't have to tell you when they're doing this they don't have to send anything home saying your kids are getting this instruction they're just going to teach you kids if you want your kids not to be in it you have to request in writing they won't send you a paper saying hey we're doing it this day they don't have to i lost my place sorry they say they have to review the curriculum but they just have to post it online they don't have to tell you they post it online they are going to put it there whatever if it's anything that i've seen it's horrible it's pretty much child pornography it's what the
books are it's the worst if i were to teach my kids some of these things at these younger ages i would be accused or anybody else would be accused of child abuse or exploitation and potentially promoting underage sex they would certainly be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor by teaching masturbation oral sex and anal sex i don't think it's that extreme to ask for cameras in instruction areas we should be able to do this i know it's not a question and answer thing but if it comes down to it and you guys get a vote by show of hands who's going to allow camera in the classroom so we can know what's going on with our kids any of you are you guys just going to let this go on and let's
not know what's going on in there because i don't think it's fair if it comes down to proof of vaccination to attend school which one of yous are going to approve that or oppose it i don't see any hands raised so to me that shows how you guys feel about this so i just think it's important you guys need to look into it parents check it out because it's horrible disgusting and vile and nothing that third through fifth graders and they're starting at kindergarten third through fifth graders should learn so you guys need to check it out [Applause] um if i may i'd just like to offer a few comments because i think there was a whole lot shared there and this is of course a topic that would be of interest to any parent
or educators governor pritzker did sign a bill updating sex education standards in k-12 schools you mentioned the time frame around this the actual legislation calls for a group to convene a committee to convene for state-level development of standards that are in alignment with the national standard so that has to happen by august 2022 so there there there's time that this would be developed just like we operate under state standards in all of their curricular areas the same thing would be happening in health education as you mentioned it's personal health and safety for students in grades k through five and then it's comprehensive sex education and for students in grades six through twelve just as we have in place now the difference is there's an alignment with the national standards the key thing here to note
is this is developmental and age appropriate and there will be educators professionals that are credentialed in these areas that are working on this at the state level as well as the district level i guarantee you that just like with all of our curricular offerings what we teach in terms of the health units and the core curriculum at high school is made available to parents is communicated to parents like all curricular offerings it is available for review for parents including the materials that are used in that situation so right now there's no changes happening to our health curriculum and in terms of what is developmentally and age appropriate that is aligned in these areas of personal health and comprehensive sex education parents will have the right to review that they also will have the right to
opt out of that but i i have to say that some of the comparisons or i guess inferences that you're drawing from whatever you're reading in the in the media i think it's important that we actually look at the standards and then understand how that will be taught to our children because these are important topics that our kids do learn but there is a very um critical way that that is done in a development developmentally appropriate manner so there's no changes happening to our health curriculum now as this advances we of course will communicate to parents so they're clear on this but i just wanted to make that very clear to anyone who's here this evening or listening at home yes it is referring to an alignment with the national standards ma'am we take the
conversation offline um or you can talk after the meeting rachel or whatever we can get information otherwise you have to come back up to the microphone uh hi please state your name where are you from um i was told i could take this off actually when i'm speaking is that okay okay great thank you um hi my name is kathy davis um i was here last week i just wanted to share some other developments with regard to the mask since i spoke last time this past friday members of the legislative joint committee on administrative rules also known as j carr issued a letter to the state board of education is b asking them to identify the authority that they are using to place schools on probation and to remove the recognition if the board voted
on mask recommended in their school districts so we were waiting to hear more details on that as i mentioned that jay card just sent that request late last week it definitely makes you stop and think why would those that oversee the legislature the laws send an inquiry to isb there are about 30 to 40 school districts that are currently mask recommended in illinois and there are many that were but are now switched to mask required however those districts are seriously questioning what isbe is stating because they do not believe that the state board of education has that authority so the next steps school districts need to stand up and take izby to court to defend their rights to make choices and govern locally i am not sure why it would be in your best interest
to allow government overreach to try and take away your control i think that you are more in tune with our community than pritzker or isb i realize the school district went mask required but i'm asking you to step up and get an answer from the court to see if isbe has the authority or if they're hollow threats we need to defend the right for local control tom devore who is an attorney is seeking any school willing to take this on he is personally putting together a legal team of litigators that actually go into the court room and defend they are not lawyers that help with policy making they are fighters there are many schools interested in taking these next steps to ask the fair question is isbee actually they actually have authority what about you
there is strength in numbers obviously mr devore understands that local school districts have a financial component and so a not-for-profit has been created where people can contribute to fight for this push which would benefit every child in illinois it would definitely have a ripple effect if you're interested then get on board and protect the right for local control i gladly will share any of this information with you just send me an email which i know you have already from my previous emails to you or you can look it up in the system on the vaccine front i realized the fda approved the pfizer vaccine which is very alarming considering theirs the vaccine adverse event reporting system and what they're showing i emailed you before about pushing the experimental shots and said you don't want to
be on the wrong side of history so the latest vers report released last friday that starts from mid december of 2020 until august mid-august this year so eight eight months there are now 13 068 deaths attributed to the covid vaccine 18 of those deaths are between the age group of 12 to 17. and they're under just under 600 000 adverse reactions to these shots and 17 000 that's been inflicted upon the 12 to 17 year olds how is this safe and effective and i'll close with this verse from god's word hosea 4 6 my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge thank you very much [Applause] thank you good evening my name is dan and i'd just like to rebut what one of the board members just said to the previous speaker uh to
mislead everybody here to think that she is actually listening to the news and getting her information from the news no she went directly to the bill that was signed into law i know that because i was right next to her reading the damn thing and it specifically states that it's going the the definition of the comprehensive sex or whatever the hell you want to call it is death is directly going towards the national sex education website so you need to educate yourself before you try to admit or try to make it look to the public that she is listening to some sort of garbage on tv i would respect if somebody would not get up and leave because they don't want to hear what i want to say but that's what how they defined it
it's in the charts everybody can go to the website that she acknowledged and they can see for themselves what you guys are going to be teaching third fourth and fifth graders about masturbation about anal sex about oral sex where is that appropriate not for a third through fifth grader and certainly many can argue probably not for anyone in class i was not taught how to perform anal sex oral sex and how to masturbate all the way through my 12 years of school 13 if you include kindergarten nobody wanted to teach me that because it's disgusting it's vile you all should be ashamed of yourself if you don't take a stand she asked specifically which one of you or any of you by a show of hands and nobody showed their hands on who would vote
against this garbage and for the person that is overseeing the schools to suggest that she's getting her information from sort of twisted news cycle to try to mislead the public is disgusting and it's disturbing nobody should be dismissive of anybody who's going to stand in front of this mic and put their reputation on the line and do all this research because we actually care about our kids to discredit the information that they're trying to provide you because they care about everyone's children not just their own i think it's very disturbing to describe it and discredit anybody who stands before you to bring you these facts they come directly from the law that was signed into law the bill that was signed into law by pritzker please educate yourself stop this disgusting crap that's going on
because i don't want my daughter or my son to be sitting in class learning about who next to them what they have for genitals okay i didn't care when i went to school all my years of school i did not care the person who was sitting next to me in class what genitals they have i wasn't interested in any of that stuff just like most kids but when you start teaching kids in class about who's got what genitals and what they're used for and actually promote books that are going around the country and you know it's coming this way where they depict child pornography they're actually showing pornographic images okay there's a book out there it's called uh it's perfectly normal why don't you look it up and see what kind of vile crap and
loud garbage that is in that book that is available for kids all across the country that are being promoted by schools that they can check out or being taught in the classrooms it's disgusting it's actually very detrimental to the health and safety and well-being of our youth you all know it this is why when we had sanity back when we were all in public school none of this garbage was actually pushed on any of us but yet we want to push it on kids nowadays why what was so wrong with your upbringing the education that everybody received why all of a sudden do i need to know do i need my kids to learn how to masturbate hey isn't that great that it's a you know you can't have it you can't get anybody pregnant
by masturbating or by oral sex or anal sex isn't that fantastic we're going to teach our children how to do that how to practice safe sex in third fourth and fifth grade it's shameful it's embarrassing thank you hi my name is rosetta spielman and as you all know i work for the valley view school district my granddaughter is in jonah sock and i gave my granddaughter the freedom to choose whether she went back to school or not i was very adamant as you all know very adamant that i did not want my little girl back in school if she had to wear this and now it's not only this it's now i'm gonna have the fear that she's gonna be taught about sex she's nine she's a baby you even said yourself these are your
babies too but in all reality they're our babies they came from our bodies and it should be us that teaches them about sex it should be us that teaches them the way of life you're to educate them math reading science history true history and how to be a good person in general that's what you're supposed to help us do you're supposed to fight for our children as much as we're fighting for them when it comes to their education but education on sex i will stand firm on what i believe and what god has said nine years old eight years old kindergarteners not even a 12th grader should be sitting in a classroom being taught that i can masturbate and it's okay how do you guys know that all of that stuff that you're going to
teach them in unisex bathrooms may be coming down the line where little boys can go in the little girls bathroom and little boy girls can go in little boys bathroom how do you know that something's not going to happen within those bathrooms because there's nobody there watching them go to the bathroom there's not a mono a hall monitor when i was in school decades ago there was hall monitors watching what we did in the hallways i love my child too much well my granddaughter she's not my my daughter but i'm raising her if she was to go into a bathroom say she's in seventh grade in humphrey she goes into the to the little girl's bathroom and a little boy follows her because he thought that he wanted to be a little girl today and
he does something to my child is the board going to step up and have the the medical science psychology stuff to to help her when and god forbid it ever happened that she was to get raped in the bathroom or she was to get hurt in the bathroom because we're teaching sex ed to 7th graders or even so much a 5th grader please love our children like we love them love our children like god loves them because he gave them to us for a reason for us to protect them not to hurt them and like i said i work at jonas sock in the lunchroom and it breaks my heart to see these babies walking around with a mask on their face and not being able to breathe the air that god gave them to
breathe they're breathing through these nasty masks they're taking them off and i see it they're laying them not where this is facing up they're laying them like this those germs are going into our babies i mean i already know that you guys have made up your mind about keeping the mass for god only knows how long but please get on board with with the families listen to us we know what is best for our children you know what's good for their education besides the sex education but listen to us i know that i would i was angry before but i took a walk through my own heart and i know that my anger before was it was definitely beyond what i what i normally am but i love these kids so much that i said
if my little girl is going to be back in that school i'm going to be back in that school mask or not i'm there to protect her and to protect other children but these babies they don't understand they're touching them they're pulling them and every little thing that they touch goes on to this i mean we know as adults it's hard for us to keep our hands off of them so what about these children what about these babies please just look into to the lawyer that's willing to fight with the school boards begging you not for just the sake of my child but the sake of every child in the valley view school district you guys are i i'm assuming that you all live in the valley view school district area so please look at
us instead of the law get in touch with this lawyer that this young lady has fight with us not against us stand with us because united we stand divided we fall that that has been a model of america forever please i'm asking you stand with us not against us thank you good evening my name is paulette miller as you know and i'm back i have prayed the good lord guides me to be nice i'm not going to call you names because if i can't say anything nice i'm not going to say it but i will tell you i'm asking to make the masks optional because they don't work fabric masks are even worse than the regular masks if you sneeze on her she gets sick if she sneezes on you through the mask you get
sick but your my you guys have made it clear that you will be doing what you're told your hands are tied but by god we all have a choice you have a choice to stand up for our children which obviously it looks like you're not i know for a fact you have been teaching our children especially in the high school crt there's no denying it i have seen it in our children my kids are not racist i have had conversations with them when they tell me they are upset with another child i ask why not one time did they tell me it was because of the color of somebody's skin not once my kids have friends you know what really disappoints me disappoints me about you people because you what's disappointing about this district is
because you would rather be like everybody else you're afraid to stand out you're afraid to do what's right i am only a stay-at-home mom my resources are limited i don't have millions of dollars but by god i've got everything i need and i'm going to start one step at a time i am going to push forward i see on the internet not msn there are other alternate places to go which obviously you people don't use in your anyway i have lost it i i am just so ex i am disappointed you guys want to go along with every other school board with the union that dictates whatever you want whatever they want they have an agenda they they want to take away what we as kids learned when you work hard you get rewarded you
get the job that you got good grades for you get to buy the house that you worked hard and you saved but you are teaching them that that is not going to happen by this equity which is baloney you have sold you you have sold us to the marxists the communists and whole i so wanted to say not my district but it's not you guys are just like the rest of them so i'm asking make the mass mandate or make the masks optional again i'm asking you to get rid of the crt again which you know we know we are not going to do and yeah that's probably about it oh i do want to make a comment though i'm trying to inform myself i'm trying to research try to find out trying to find
something good in this board so i went on your website and i found the link that says how to talk to your child about racism and when i clicked on it it went to an article from cnn seriously about the drug addict who had an altercation with the police officer and lost his life i don't want to teach my kid to be a drug dealer i don't want to teach my kid to be a career criminal what message are you people trying to send i really don't know it's not positive so you know what i'm sorry because you're messing with my kids so as a mother i will not let them take your bus your public buses i will drive them to school and i will pick them up because you have to have a
mask mandate for a virus that the kids are not affected by that has over a 99 survival rate and i'm not even going to go into the vaccine because you know and the sex education if any of anybody teaching my kid like that you'll be sorry and i'm not threatening you i'm not because there's a higher power higher power above me i will be leaving now because because this is useless good night [Applause] my name is jerry miller the last meeting there was an attempt to guilt us parents telling us that our negative comments we make about the mass causes our kids to have a negative attitude and it's our fault for their problems the word hypocrite comes to mind when curriculum you put in this put on the screen has many words of crt
buzzwords such as equality equity inclusion and diversity this is negative teachings telling our kids lies that america is system system systematically racist and that white people are oppressors and that colored people of color are victims these are lies and diverse and negative this teaches kids to be racist it confuses them when parents don't teach these negative lies so when you cast your dispersions you should look in look in the mirror and make sure that it isn't something that you're doing first i thought of taking my kids out of school but they would miss they would be the ones missing their friends and teachers so for now they are going to school and we are going to start teaching them 1776 history at home with curriculum from hillsdale college for kids or k through 12. to
me this seems like a form of punishment to tell them the lies of a crt curriculum causing confusion when we have a correct when we have to correct these teachings with 1776 these crt lies are being taught to them in school i'm telling them the truth that the school board doesn't have their best interest in mind and that their but their bosses are telling them to teach these lies crt lies we need to start doing what's right for the kids not with what the nea or teachers union forces down our throats we all know what's right let's start doing it thank you [Applause] hi i'm jim fisher i wanted to talk about the good that this board has had last year my senior who graduated spent zero time on mondays in this school system today
you guys figured it out you got the kids in school on monday so thank you hopefully this will be five days a week full time okay so i got three kids one kid he's off to college he's 30 000 people in that college no mass required he gets up every day today was his first day of classes he did not wear a mask today my other two kids well the high schooler he got up on thursday and he did this and he went six hours like this i think he got a break when he got to eat thank you so i got some time on that and that happened thursday friday and today now my junior high student oh by the way for the last month he's had to take the spit test what you
call the shield test he's a healthy guy he's got to go through that right okay so my third student got to go through this go through this six hours a day last three days they have to do this they get a lunch break there are at least 51 other boards that have stepped up to support their community to say hey we're going to keep it optional and yes they're on probation you know what that means those students have 30 to 60 days that they don't have to put these two masks on while the adults try to ramble it out politically to figure out whether or not masks really work i have healthy kids i would prefer that you don't put masks on my healthy kids thank you thank you [Applause] hi there hello i am
jacqueline miller i am a junior at romeovo high school i'm a student i'm the one you should listen to these parents they may say they look out for us but it is painful to hear them i want to feel safe and i want to feel loved but being exposed to covet hurts not wearing a mask hurts so i beg you parents if you can't change for your kids then what's worth changing for okay back to my original speech hello i am jacqueline miller a junior at moment high school i lost my sophomore year due to covet as many students did covet affected us all with no doubt i'm sure you're sick of the masks but that's no reason to stop it as simple as when a doctor prescribes you medicine do you stop taking it
when you feel better no co-wood is very real and very scary with the delta variant i am scared i ask you to do what you need to do to keep us safe the students who actually go to school not the parents you can still be a kid with a mask but not a kid in a hospital bed refusal to wear a mask will only make us wear a mask longer as not wanting to wear a mask spreads the virus quicker and faster the problem the problems are people thinking that their opinion matters as much as doctors i am not sorry but an online article will never compare to the amount of schooling actual doctors go through i know you face a lot of backlash but as a student please keep us safe keep the masks
i understand masks won't fix it all but it will sure help so as we watch the hospital beds fill up and people suffer please do your parts thank you jacqueline miller thank you [Applause] hello i'm my name is alexander mendoza i'm a student at romanville high school and well i was originally just coming here to talk about um you know masculine vaccination but um clearly there's a much broader opinion like on racial discrimination clearly that's not important right no it's important to educate people about racial injustice and about that stuff you know because it's all important and then also about um what was i going to say transphobia there's blatant transphobia in these remarks by these parents it's very disrespectful towards people who are transgender or part of the lgbtq community but i'm not going
to talk more on this because i don't really have a much to stay i came here today to communicate about the masks and about vaccinations and how the masks really are we really a lot of the students really are in support of the board's decisions of the masks and we really appreciate you guys you know standing out for our safety and rather than just um an ignorance a blatantly poorly written news article that has no true scientific uh beliefs behind it i mean uh i've been wearing this mask for a while i got vaccinated and i still tend to wear the mask because it's it's just safety i care about my parents i care about my friends i care about keeping people safe and i think people need to see the same thing and stop
being selfish and wear the mask just to you know keep everybody else safe and earlier i heard a comment about vaccinations right and how vaccination deaths are so high but people don't care about the actual deaths that are caused by the virus but when it comes to a death related to the vaccination it's the biggest thing in the world because it's something they don't support but if you look at the numbers of covet 19 deaths it's much higher than any form of vaccination death or vaccination related death usually they're also very low i would say kovit is truly not spread and transmissed by the virus itself but is spread by people who are ignorant and unwilling to be a member of society and protect others and i think what you guys are doing here is
amazing and a lot of students are in support and i would like to give my gratitude and appreciation to you guys thank you you [Music] hi my name is roman luis rodriguez i am a senior at romeoville high school and first of all i would like to thank the board for being here today and holding this public conversation about anything really in our community and they're the strong ones here back to the main point we're all struggling through kovid and it's undeniable but making mass optional will only make things worse and just because you're tired doesn't mean the pandemic's over put your ego and pride away and wear your mask they're the things that are keeping us safe during this whole pandemic with these mass mandatory in school i feel more safer in the environment
i'm in five days a week and vaccinations please if you're not vaccinated go get them just recently the pfizer vaccine has been approved by the fda and again all of you parents saying that about caring about the deaths of the vaccine there are more people that are dying about dying from kovid 19. how can you care about more people dying from a vaccine than a whole global pandemic that that just blows my mind away then earlier the transphobia i've heard from the from some of these parents really um it really set with me because a lot of my friends go through a lot with their parents because they don't accept who they are and the only like escape and the only support is from friends in school if you want to have your children keep
going to school every day keep having them wear masks to protect everyone else thank you my name is kamani campbell and i've been in the back okay speaking of the microphone please i'm sorry oh there you go sorry it works either way okay this is this okay okay hi my name is kamani campbell and i've been in the valley viewed school district since 8th grade in this very building jjl and now i'm a junior at romeoville high school this is my first boarding meeting actually i came here because there was an equal balance in who was on the side for making mass mandatory and who's fighting for mass to be optional especially the inequality and the amount of people that came to this board that look like me and who are around my age if
not in my age group so i'm from making mass mandatory i watched the youtube live streams i saw lots of arguments regards to making mass optional along the lines of i feel jailed i feel imprisoned i'm in bondage and even equating it to jim crow laws one of the excuses were along the lines of it promotes teen acne and you can't see your favorite person smile when i heard those arguments i was taken aback to march 2021 the whole world was hit with how severe this virus is almost two years later there is still no cure vaccinations are a great tool when i'm vaccinated myself but are only preventative you know what else is preventative mass a good for benefit a good preventative tool as a high school that previously went through remote learning and
hated it i don't want to return to that if anything mass are the only thing that is keeping us the closest to what we knew and felt the world before covet would you really risk giving a deadly virus to one person which can eventually lead to a mass population to see someone else smile mass aren't keeping everyone in this building masks are keeping up everyone else in this building right now it's one of the reasons that your children can go to school it's one of the reasons your child doesn't have to click on a desktop app called zoom and being trapped in 12x12 boxes with no interaction one of the other takeaways i have heard from the live streams is that people have brought up how america is a free country and therefore should be
optional but no one can be an american without the basic common knowledge that we do we do not do things like this to have fun but for survival mass should not be optional but should be required for survival i'm done thank you good evening everyone my name is jim miller i just wanted to um say a few things here tonight for everyone but before i do the young people that had just spoke i really really commend them for their bravery to come up here regardless of anyone in here who agrees or disagrees with what they've had to say they are our future they are our youth and with that i will just continue with what i kind of put together just for tonight based on some observations as i sat here this evening what i've
heard tonight is the concerns from parents and families regarding masks and other forms of indoctrination like crt and profound radical sex education teachings some have asked you to take a stand with them what say you because i saw enough no no hands up one way or the other or or maybe i missed something from back there but we can get back to that in a little bit us parents and in my case a grandparent to five children we are going to stand together but we ask you to join us we are all in this together now we don't need you to make a difference for our youth we'll move on and do it without jesus because we're going to stand for our youth and with our youth and we'll fight for them as far as
crt is concerned we are one race the human race that is how our father capital f made us as for masco they can be optional i hear some want to wear a mask that makes them feel safe it makes them feel or they truly believe that they're helping others and protecting others i have no issue with that nor do a lot of us here and if you have a vaccine in your system already or choose to get one i'm not going to tell you one way or the other but if you do have the vaccine somebody tell me what the issue is what is there to even discuss you've got your protection there you go i'd like to share a quote with everyone to kind of segue into my next message and this is from
thomas sowell a brilliant man we will probably never see another one like him man or woman to be as brilliant as what this man in his years on this earth there are few things more dishonorable than misleading the young that's been resonating with me for quite some time now it is for shame that we will instill fair into our students and our youth with zero evidence to back it up making children believe that unvaccinated people are some kind of super spreader was an evil thing to allow happen and for excuse me what i'd like to know is what the endgame is with our youth how much more will we use them and for what other political or for medical needs what is the end what what will we not use our children for what will
we how far will we go how much more will we victimize them or change their natural way of progression and thinking and learning just for some sort of perhaps political gain or maybe to not believe in god or maybe to not be as american or maybe to be more div to create more division between what you look like what sex you are what gender of the two genders by the way and what race or ethnicity and while like while we're talking about race and ethnicity i'm an american i'm not american italian i'm not american mexican i'm not american filipino or african-american and that but and i'm leaving out a lot so i'm going to sound a little hyper when i s hypocritical when i say this next part almost never do you hear anything other
than the black and white issue no one ever mentions the third race on this planet no one ever mentions the other ethnicities all the multiple languages in this land in this free land and that needs to stop we should address everybody or the best option is to call it what it is the human race that's all we are every every one of us here and children don't let anybody ever tell you any different than that now the most famous person that ever stepped foot on earth was also the only only perfect person so i will give you a quote from him capital h him and the king will reply truly i tell you whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine you did for me so now i
i leave with you questions and i recognize some of you is up there what say you what who do you stand with us and our children or a radical anti-american movement that is clearly sweeping across this nation thank you seeing no other comments we will move down the agenda uh we need to open up we do what do we do suspend we do a motion oh yeah i need to do a motion to a temporary gen public meeting and go on to the e-learning portion public hearing for the e-learning so moved second we have a second motion second all those in favor say aye opposed same sign eyes have it e learning let's go so this is the public hearing portion regarding the adoption of a resolution and the utilization of e-learning days in lieu
of emergency days we are required to submit a formal e-learning plan to the regional office of education for verification and as part of this process this is open for public comment on the plan and on the fact that we would have the ability to use e-learning day in lieu of an emergency day as a calendar day for the school year so this is an open public comment time so anybody who wishes to adjust the board on the e-learning potential for the district seeing non-hearing done motion to close the hearing would be in order and to resume general session second motion and seconded all those favors say aye opposed same sign eyes have it so you want to explain what we're doing in case we well go ahead rachel sure i can absolutely explain what you're
doing uh we're doing so this um moves us to the portion where we're seeking the board's approval on a resolution to have the ability to use remote learning um in the event of an emergency day for example a snow day and this requires approval by the regional office of education and it requires us to have the plan on the site so in the event of an emergency day where we are unable to safely transport students to school we could call for emergency e-learning day we have the tools the platforms the ability students would access their learning virtually um through their devices and then we would be able to use that as an instructional day so we're you know we were forced to become experts at this mode of instructional delivery and we would only use
it in the event of an emergency day and of course we would follow the normal channels of informing families that this would in fact be in in play so the approval of this um resolution would allow us to submit this to the regional office of education to have the ability to have an emergency e-learning day if necessary happy to answer any questions anybody have any questions there's somebody in the audience who has a question please come forward we saw that she wanted to say something during the hearing but we'd already closed it go ahead please hi my name is maria reyesis and i am the secretary on the vvop secretaries union and our question is how will this um proposal affect the secretaries um i assume that you're asking with respect to how we handle
um the days that they would be coming in and whether they would be forced to take a non-work day versus coming in is that what you're asking yes that's correct that would be something that we would have to discuss and negotiate any kind of bargaining impact on on the office personnel i think this past year what we've done is if i'm not mistaken it was considered a regular non-work day for all of you so i'm guessing that's you know what we'll have to discuss whether or not that will continue moving forward by job category we would determine where remote work was available um or if not available then how that would factor into the calendar via either a non-work day or with the addition of that day on to the calendar year and i i
can't answer specifically now for the secretary group but it's slightly different for each group right because if there's a snow day we need our maintenance crew here for example um so they would be required to report they would not be able to work remotely but there are some job categories where remote work would be appropriate and then there's others that we would have to have an alternate plan in place and of course we would do that with our our leads in those respective unions and perhaps this is something that we should probably discuss at a later time but would that also mean that once the snow starts the expectation for the secretaries would be to take your laptop and be prepared to work remotely if needed i think that's a fair expectation especially now that
we are in this world where in the event that that occurs it's the same thing for our students we would want them to have their devices at home we would want their t the teachers to have their devices at home um and if that were not the case and there was some other reason that we were unable to say you know have access to our network or something like that it would just truly be an emergency day that would be added to the calendar but we now are in that mode of work and school where you need to be prepared to operate um and be flexible based on whatever happens thank you good points thank you miss maricize thank you if there are no further discussion we have a motion we have a second a
roll call vote would be in order member apparel yes member venegas yes member campbell yes secretary sakura yes vice president zach i'm sorry excuse me president quigley uh yes autopilot uh moving down the agenda mr gazafi intensive annual budget for 21-22 this is probably the most difficult budget i had to assemble due to the fact that the last 17 months have been uh very atypical so the historical trends that we would typically look look at and monitor uh to craft the new new year's budget uh are really just next to impossible that being said uh i'll give you a 10 000 foot view of our tentative budget the overall budget 328.4 million dollars the operating budget 285.7 million dollars primary difference between those two is the debt service about 38 million dollars to service all
of the outstanding debt for uh various uh referendum and non-referendum bonds that have been approved over the last uh 25-30 years i would say on the revenue side tax levy is projected to go up 1.4 percent which is the consumer price index or cpi that should generate about 3.6 million dollars of additional revenue corporate personal property replacement tax or cpprt about 15.03 million or about a 1.8 million dollar increase that's unusual coming off an increase from last year typically it's kind of see-saws back and forth it'll yet to be see that's an estimate from the department of revenue but we're certainly hopeful that their revenue estimate does does hold evidence-based funding tier funding as it's more commonly known 1.26 million dollars in new funding uh that's primarily due to the legislature funding uh 300 million
dollars of new uh new funding additional funding over last year uh we have moved up one percentage point to 72 percent uh of adequacy uh compared to what would normally be uh what we would strive for would be 100 of adequacy uh so we're moving in the right direction but we still have quite a ways to go in terms of the other mandated categoricals there's no change in funding levels or amounts all the category categorical funding was received in fy 21 so there's no carryover that's a good thing as you know from the state funding updates that are provided to you monthly again we're not really owed anything i think there's two small payments due for drivers education about 60 thousand dollars the big gain really is in federal dollars more commonly known as esser
or the elementary and secondary school emergency relief fund the sr2 grant is about 10.8 million dollars and that is incorporated into the fy 22 budget uh to address all sorts of things uh related to learning loss wrap around services additional staffing things of that nature that really are meant to address the the lack of in-person learning over these last 18 months the budget is balanced utilizing fund balances to equal the shortage in revenue due to several factors like like our large capital project expenditures uh we had a couple large paving projects as well as a very large roof project over at romeville high school the state transportation reimbursement uh is down uh this year because our expenses were down uh and so uh again we're coming off of a year where we spent less we're
gonna get reimbursed less but we're gonna spend more this year because we're in in school uh and so we're always a year in in arrears if you will on that and so that's leaving us with a gap for the year in the transportation fund uh we'll also be uh spending down lease proceeds we the board approved a lease uh where the proceeds were received last year five million dollars but they'll be spent this year we close at least right at the very tail end of the prior fiscal year all that being said the year end balance is estimated to be at about 115 days of reserves which is above our 90-day benchmark to consider uh to be the minimum amount of reserves to maintain uh so we're just about four months of operating reserves which
is i think within four days of where we found ourselves last year uh local funding uh percent or 226 million dollars that's down about two percentage points uh over last year uh state funding is relatively flat 61 million dollars uh the federal funding is where we see the large increase and that really kind of skews the percentages we're at 28 million in in federal funding normally we'd be about 16 million so again a good increase there but that's those are one-time dollars that we typically won't see year over year on the expense side uh just briefly we've got budgeted increases in salaries based on collectively bargain agreements and the extension with our teachers and supportive staff we also incorporated any new grant funded positions as well as full-year allocations for professional development and extra duty
pay as well as the increase in the number of permanent guest teachers benefits are budgeted for an increase of 7.3 percent in claim costs and fixed costs we've got a large amount of expenses related to coveted response has been incorporated into the budget again much of it being funded by those those esser dollars we've got a budget transfer of 1.4 million from the ed fund to the debt service fund to cover an anticipated capitalized interest cost which was a carryover from our last bond refinancing if you want more information on that i'd be happy to share that with you it's a rather complicated uh calculation but again it's something that we did anticipate we've got 151 thousand dollars for security radio replacements and new and replacement security cameras we've got outside placement tuition is budgeted
for an increase of 250 000 to reflect anticipated uh increase in the number of students assigned and rate increases in the various outside agencies and then again i mentioned the lease we're purchasing a new hr finance software package that was board approved or replacing the old 30 year old legacy sim system that we're trying trying to wind down on with that being said between august 24th and september 27th at the public hearing we'll continue to refine the budget incorporating any changes and modifications necessary to better reflect the changes coming out of springfield and any additional covet-related expenses and information that we receive with that i'm recommending that the board approve the 2122 tentative budget to be put on display and make available for public inspection for at least 30 days a public hearing on the
budget will take place at the september 27 board meeting after which the final adoption of the budget will be recommended again we don't need a motion information correct we do need more do need a motion okay you have motion and a second somebody secondly down there thank you all right roll call vote please remember campbell yes member venegas yes member peril yes secretary sakura yes president quigley yes next we've got a recommendation for approval being sought for the purchase of up to 1500 uh jabra 710 portable microphone speakers to assist our educators we're bringing this request to you directly as an action item in lieu of an information item to the potential immediate need pricing and availability of the product concern over delayed availability could hamper our ability to procure this item and the quantities
necessary to meet the needs of our educators educators at elementary middle and high attempted a variety of techniques to support remote learning during the 2021 school year they successfully overcame many obstacles and as the situation with covet continues to evolve we remain committed to proactive preparation for many possible instructional approaches feedback was collected from classroom teachers and other support staff about what technology is needed to best support live streaming going forward information from an all staff survey and from summer feedback sessions resulted in the selection of the product that's being recommended this evening this is a combination microphone speaker that is portable works wirelessly with staff computers setup is extremely simple and efficient and can be moved to any portion of the room to capture the necessary audio for any students streaming from home the
btss or building technology support staff in each school will receive a jabra 710 immediately with accompanying professional development on how to use the device additional 710s will be made available as they are purchased at this time we are recommending approval of up to the purchase of up to 1500 710 devices from cdw uh computer discount warehouse at a unit price of 170 and 54 cents for a total expenditure of 257 285 including shipping this purchase will be made entirely through the esser grant funds from the current fiscal year motion somehow motion and seconded yeah any discussions or commerce questions roll call vote please member campbell yes member venegas yes member apparel yes secretary sakura yes and president quigley yes miss nash human resources thank you sir action report 11.1 is our consolidated action report for

we have kind of a repeat of some of the same information that i shared two weeks ago and the the big news is the celebration because last week we welcome back nearly 15 000 learners in grades k through 12 in our step program and then today we welcome back our littlest learners our three and four years old three and four-year-olds at the james mitchum early childhood center and our kids have done a wonderful job of transitioning our staff has done a wonderful job of having our students back on site and our leaders have done a wonderful job of ensuring that all of the pieces come together we had many typical start of the year bumps getting routines and things organized some things took a lot more effort and were quite much more exhausting because there's
a whole lot much more to considered in the world of kovid now from routines and dismissal and some of the safety precautions to seating charts on buses there's a lot of factors that we can't control in the world and kovid's only one of them the other ones are traffic and construction and staffing shortages in the labor market and all of those things yet our staff did an amazing job of getting the school year started on a positive note and our students were excited energetic and happy to be here with their friends and with their with all the adults that care about them so much so we're we are thrilled to have them back on site we are off to an amazing start and i'm very very optimistic about keeping up the momentum once again i'll
reiterate we don't wish these protocols had to be in place it would be far more easy much more convenient to not to have to wear a mask and think about all these other logistical considerations but our kids are adaptable they are flexible and they are working through it and they're making the absolute best of it and i can tell you that in every single building throughout this district they've done an amazing job and so i just want to give great appreciation to our staff our students and our families because our kids came ready and they knew what to expect and they really have done an amazing job of transitioning i really truly could not be more proud of our staff our students and our families for working together and getting us off to such a
great start so we welcomed our our kids back and we could not do this without the partnership our staff community families family partners and we are going to do amazing things this year as is the case amidst doing all of the the great things that we're here to do with learning and growth and support we have to continue to keep an eye on what's going around on around us in the community with the health metrics what's going on with the covid rates in the community so we do continue to monitor those we are seeing rises in the community transmission rates and the test positivity rates in the region we've seen some um rising in our local zip code area and we're kind of hovering around that five percent positivity rate we are watching new cases
we're watching new cases per 100 000 and we're watching youth cases um we're watching what's happening internally too with the uptick in the community transmission rates we have an uptick of um staff and student reported cases as well so it is really critical and as many of our our students emphasized earlier this evening that for one positive case that these precautions are helping keep other children in school and so they they are support right now in our ultimate goal and one of our parents said it earlier as well five full days a week every day for every kid and that's my goal so the mass do help because when we have positive cases we may identify close contacts but it's far fewer than if mass were optional and we do you know have to keep
in mind that you know there's exposure out in the community there's exposure at home and that does have an impact on those who are in school so we are monitoring our cases very closely we have our shield program in place in our higher risk areas of extracurriculars and we will continue to monitor this as well as on an ongoing basis in the in the tone of screening and testing tools this is essentially in place for a couple different reasons we have these tools in our tool kit so that we can identify case positive cases so that's through a screening with shield and we're doing that in the high risk extracurricular bacteria extracurricular areas at the high school and we will be expanding to some degree to the middle school as well at this point we
do not have set plans to expand the shield program but we are watching very carefully if we need to increase this screening coverage in additional program areas or grade levels by next now we are using for point of care essentially for symptomatic individuals if there's been known exposure and there could be a possibility with the guidance from the illinois department of public health that we could use this test as an antigen test antigen screener in the case of an outbreak where we have cases that are linked in a school setting again with the goal to keep kids in school and to be as proactive as possible in identifying if there's a positive case so that we can isolate contact trace and work with our local health department in the upcoming week parents will be receiving
an informational email that is essentially just this information about the testing tools that are in place in valley view and that we will have essentially when these tools become available to their child or if they become available to their child based on their participation in a program or the fact that they're in a particular grade level that parents would be notified before that occurred just as if a child comes down ill at school with a fever and a cough the nurse would contact the parent before administering that test and then again that just gives us early information to begin the contact tracing process so at this point we are preparing to be ready to expand testing programs in the event that we need to and that is certainly tools that we will continue to utilize
however we need to in order to keep our doors open keep our kids in school and to minimize any disruptions in their learning thank you to our families for continuing to monitor daily your child's symptoms at home we're going to continue to remind you of this this is truly critical and partnership with your school nurse your school administration is is so important because this early identification is helping support keeping everyone else healthy in addition to having our kids back in school you know lunch from a logistical perspective is quite challenging to ensure that we do our best to distance and have our kids eat as safely as possible the positive benefit here that really helps on some of that logistical strain is having free meals breakfast and lunch program through the federal program for all
students so we know families are aware of this by now but i also would like to ask families to register for the free meals the free and reduced lunch meal and the application link is there if you qualify there is really important there are some other benefits here for the district but important most importantly is there's benefits for the family too for reduction in fees fee waivers you can get reduction in some test fees some college applications offer waivers and other benefits too so although we have free meals there is a benefit from filling out that meal application so we will continue to communicate that to the community as well some of the bumps that we experience in the first few days of school were with routines dismissals procedures as we're getting those to the
fine-tune level that we are used to having those at transportation and busing is also areas that we're working on and we did have some areas where um absolutely we were you know behind schedule or adapting and making adjustments to ensure that we could get our kids home safely um but we've had improvement day over day and we're happy to report that continues to be a positive positive area that we will continue to improve just some other important reminders more traffic more kids out please exercise caution around our school buildings every building is doing their best to work on that car rival and dismissal we have a lot more families driving than normal so please be patient and please work with the school staff because they're working very hard to ensure that is safe for everyone
involved and so in closing and definitely a much briefer update today our goal will remain keeping our students safe and physically present in school our goal will remain a caring and responsive environment for everyone in our learning community physical safety emotional safety and well-being we are continuing to do everything we possibly can to support that we're going to continue to be proactive we're going to monitor conditions and then we are going to respond with increase or decrease strategies when appropriate we're continuing to collaborate with the local health professionals the health department and all of our other resources and support so that we can continue to stay on top of this and ensure that that great start that we have begun continues and we continue to sustain that momentum and most importantly our kids are here
with us in valley view in their school buildings where they belong so our kiddos at the early childhood center started today we know open house and curriculum nights are are coming up and um our first one is this week and then every other building has their own date scheduled um please work with your school in terms of the the directions for that we will have to make some modifications just to ensure we can do it safely and all safety precautions including masking of course will be in place a couple other important reminders about exclusion physicals for immune immunization that date is september first and then a much needed three-day weekend with no school on september 6. so we'll continue to communicate via all modes social media website school level and teacher communication is of course
your most relevant access point for communication and then i'll have communications coming up to the board again i'll just emphasize the the level of partnership that it's going to take to continue to sustain this positive trajectory that we have established again i will reemphasize i understand that everyone has strong opinions and everyone has feelings emotions and i hear from parents all across the spectrum i hear from students all across the range that of the differing kind of opinions experiences and everything that they're bringing to the table but ultimately no matter where we lie on that continuum it is critical that we find a way to make it work and we work together to make the best of our circumstances and so that's all i have for you this evening and i'm happy to entertain any
questions from the board anybody up here have any questions percussion equipment who's got that in the packet is a recommendation for a percussion equipment purchase there's a rationale provided along with background evidence of need program description implementation plan and expected outcomes this is really kind of an outgrowth of the introduction of standalone percussion courses at the high schools back in 11 2011 2012. there's a growing interest and a need to uh procure the right sort of uh equipment uh instruments for uh for to support these these this course work uh there's an accountability plan as well that's uh provided there we did put the uh the request out to bid uh we did receive two two bids uh and the winning bidder quinlan and fabish is a uh uh vendor that we've used uh quite
a bit over time uh and so we are recommending that the uh uh or we we're not bringing anything it's just information report we're bringing this to the board i think at our next meeting on september 27th so we did bake this into the budget for fy22 do you have any questions moving down the agenda what you all came for tonight the legal services report no report thank you aft report valley view council report office personnel council report i think we'll be getting back to you guys later in the old business before the board this evening any new business before the board meeting president quigley i i do have a comment that i'd like to make and clarify if i um failed to communicate appropriately previously or that if there's any confusion from the what
i was trying to communicate regarding the new bills signed into law updating sex education standards in k-12 schools the senate bill 818 that was signed as well as the house bill that was recently signed as well will have an impact on health education personal health and safety education comprehensive sex education the point that i was making was that as is our standard protocol all curricular changes go through a process with the board all curriculum instructional materials are available for preview from parent for parents and that continues to remain the standard um i also wanted to um say that parents of course as they do now have the right to up their child out of sex education as we currently have a program in place i also wanted to state that in the in the language
that i was referring to on or before august 1st 2022 the state board of education in consultation with youth parents sexual health and violence prevention experts health care providers advocates and education practitioners including but not limited to administrators regional superintendents of schools teachers and school support personnel shall develop and adapt rigorous learning standards in the area of comprehensive personal health and safety education for pupils in kindergarten through k through 5th grade and comprehensive sexual health education for pupils in the 6th through 12th grade including but not limited to the national sex education standards so yes i'm aware that those are what will be used to drive that work at the state level once that occurs just like all state standards in any subject area then the school district works with those standards that have been
identified at the state level as what we will develop for our curriculum here in valley view school district so i am aware that these national sex education standards include things on consent healthy relationships anatomy and physiology puberty adolescent sexual development gender identity and expression and many other areas as well so we are aware of this there are there's a great deal of input from stakeholders at the state level then that will happen at the local level in valley view so nothing is changing currently as of this day today for the school year in our health education courses although there will be work beginning to ensure that we are prepared for any changes in development that would occur so i just wanted to share that under new business because i felt i feel it's appropriate and
of course if parents have questions please reach out and a member of our team would be happy to talk through parents with any of the questions that they have and that they can understand the curricular process as well as standards and how parents can be a part of that process thank you thank you for that freedom of information reports are on our website per usual per state law any questions from the public on actions we have taken this evening seeing none oh got one good evening again i'm going to make this short because i know you guys said four minutes um my name is maria raisis and after sitting through one of these after sitting through this meeting i felt the previous time i probably should have mentioned something however it was something specific that
we were answering as far as the secretarial union in addition to serving on the board for the secretarial union i have lived in the bowling brook in bolingbrook for 20 years both my daughters graduated from bolingbrook high school i have lived and volunteered in this community and to say that i'm fully vested in the community is an understatement as a matter of fact miss sakura taught both of my kids i wanted to say well first of all to remind the public and everyone that this is the public education system i appreciate what the board is doing and opening it up to the public for the public to have an opportunity to speak and for us to be at least given an opportunity to have a voice especially for those who stepped up and were speaking
in tones and using verbiage that was not necessarily compassionate or kind yet in the same sentence quoting scripture coming from someone who is an uh open atheist it's unfortunate for me to have to remind someone who's quoting scripture to be nice um i also wanted to make sure that the kids who came up while they are kids and their um the youth they spoke very eloquently and in a respectful manner so i wanted to commend them for that that's the valley view system that's the valley view education system teaching our kids that's an example right there [Music] um also just to remind everyone that while the reason i said that this is a public school district and it's a public school system um the board is also has to take into account what the cdc
is recommending what isb is recommending and they can't just make a decision so it's unfortunate that the expectation from some of the parents were for anyone on the board to take a stance or raise their hand on behalf of their decisions when it comes to covid and the vaccine nationwide were split and i don't know what the percentage is but there isn't one right answer there isn't one right way and i would just encourage everyone that the purpose of these meetings is to come together and work together to work with the board um and to bring the community together not to separate us even more that being said i just wanted to make sure that the board knew that i appreciated your time and your effort and opening it up to the public thank you
okay there's no further questions from the public announcements by the board oh got one more coming down hello my name is adam hill i'm a teacher at romanville high school i've been there for i think maybe 17 years it goes by very fast i'm also a product of the valley view school district started at northview high school uh there there is a lot of support here and i appreciate it as a teacher in the district i don't know if i've ever wanted for anything because there's so much support so i appreciate the the decisions i appreciate um the listening whether you know whatever it may be i feel like there is always an open ear um this meeting you definitely uh hear of the the sides of the table where you know if you if
you walk through the halls i think you will tell a different tale and if you look in your students eyes you may tail tell a different tale as well i appreciate the the the passion of people i am also very passionate about what i do um but i also think that there is um definitely a level of understanding um you know i thought i heard that you weren't and somebody said you weren't invested in the children i don't understand that comment it doesn't make any sense to me those are only the high school kids super proud of them you give them the podium you support them i don't know what else needs to be said so i just want to say thank you and we're going to have a rest of a great week all
right thank you thank you we have one more adjusting the board thank you uh hello there my name is uh daniel kalishek i was a student at romeville high school and i was a bit apprehensive to talk about earlier because i'm like my tourette's it's like makes me believe public speaking but like here i am so um it got kind of intense earlier and i just wanted to say like like i appreciate you like what you're doing like it became emotional here but like like we are the students like like we are the ones who are affected by these decisions sorry um and like and like just thank you for listening to us like look look like the masks they affect us and like if you walk the hallways in rhs you see like like
with this one of the masks like you could see like they see it's like we care we are a community and we care about like supporting each other and part of supporting each other is mass freedom is not free and part of freedom is that empire freedom is that you must sacrifice some of it to do good for the community it's like mr america like it's like in 1944 destroying the beach of normandy this is the story each of the minority sacrificing their lives for the freedom of our nation so we can give a little discomfort just so we can like be just like like a just weekend on protect members of community um i appreciate you being here like saying i have tourette's like it's been like very like um hard getting up here
like like i'll be having our friends go earlier but just i want to say thank you and keep doing what you're doing thank you if there's no further comments any announcements by the board from my right ms campbell from the left mr venegas i actually uh so first and foremost i wanted to uh congratulate our school district for having a great start i know uh my sophomore and freshman just went back to school and they loved it we unfortunately i wanted to apologize to principal kinder my flight out of jamaica got stalled because of hurricane grace and i wasn't able to make it there on the first day of opening in uh it was a little bit tough for my son and my daughter but they said it was fantastic they love being in class
i know my son has his own opinion about the mask but at the end of the day he loved the fact that he was able to get back into school be there with his colleagues learning um with his friends my daughter same way the other thing is that they're both in cross country so uh they're loving the fact that they can run without a mask but i will say um to the uh the students that came up here and spoke earlier today uh especially the gentleman the last gentleman who did that very courageous i really appreciate it that's truly the voices of the community and and i know there was a lot of passion out there from parents and families we all have kids here but to hear you guys speak and be able to
represent our community and stay what you stated whether it was about the mass whether it was about the education crt those options those things thank you very much for for for standing up and and being heard for those parents who come up here and want to yell and shout and use crazy language stay home you're wasting your time because at the end of the day all if you want to be listened or heard to i'm open to debate and i'm open to hear you but when you come up here with nonsense and craziness and start attacking the board or start saying craziness about us looking like idiots or this or that i'm not going to listen to you stay home if you want to have a good conversation a good debate and you want to
be heard come up here like professional decent adults like these young kids that came up here earlier today that's all i ask for i want to also thank a couple of individuals that spoke today rosetta spielman great love to hear you speak always has a really solid positive message and uh jim miller today spoke for the first time and very nice solid message those are the kind of individuals you want to be heard you want to speak to something that we may not agree to that's fine let's hear it out but speak intelligently and speak with respect because at the end of the day we need to treat everybody with dignity and respect that's the the one asked of all of your parents and everybody out here that that's my only ask and my only
comment otherwise have a fantastic school year and looking forward to uh this successful uh school year thank you i just have a i just have a couple things to say first of all i want to say that i um had the pleasure of being at bloomberg high school and jamie mcgee's school on the first day and it was so fun all i can say is i just had so much fun being outside the buildings those at those two places that morning and watching the kids come in the excitement was just oh my goodness you couldn't i couldn't stand it and so i can see you know we are off to a great start i i know that those two buildings were very representative of every building in our district and so i know our kids
are ecstatic to be back as are the teachers and everyone else so that is a wonderful thing a wonderful celebration for us and then i also want to thank our transportation department because as ms kinder uh referenced it's rough it's been a rough beginning it always is a little bit rough at the beginning of the year understandably this year had some extra challenges but our transportation department has persevered and they are there for our students so thank you anyone else first of all i want to thank you students for i know what it takes to go out and speak in public and i started when i was in junior high and i was not a very good public speaker i was very shy and for you guys to come up here and do what you
do thank you very much for that and i'm sure you'll be taking messages back to your fellow students and let them know that you came to a board meeting and i want to let them know for you that you guys did a great job representing your school so on you get big kudos on behalf of me there were some comments made here this evening there's things that have been said about legislation about well which number one we don't vote on that illinois general assembly votes on that ilga.gov find out who your members are and go talk to them about the legislation that they pass it's very simple we don't pass laws the state of illinois does and we are bound to follow them as i said in the last meeting we have had these conversations
if we do not comply with the state mandate mr fisher has been here before to talk about us not having a program for sports the state of illinois has decided if you do not comply with the mass mandate your schools will not be in isha or esa that's what they've decided not my rule not my deal they decided that and there are 40 plus schools that have already decided that they're not going to participate well i bet you the parents who have a kid who's a senior in football who's trying to get a scholarship might be going to that next school board meeting with that school district maybe they will maybe they won't don't know but we're going to comply with state laws in this district we're going to do things in this district that
help us move the ball forward so if you have constructive criticisms fine we have emails we have opportunities for discourse we have all that we always provided that when the pandemic started i sat right here when there were three other people in this room i've never missed a meeting during this pandemic when the opportunity for people to come here and address us about the issues we have spent and the people i'm talking about here are the ones that are elected and actually everybody up here and a lot of people back there we have spent countless hours doing things to try and move the ball forward we opened the doors three days a week that wasn't good enough we opened the doors whatever we did we closed the doors that wasn't you know we didn't want
to close the doors we didn't want it three days a week we wanted five days a week now we're at five days a week and now that's a problem i ran into a friend of mine the other day at the grocery store and she has a six-year-old son and she said it's not ideal but if my six-year-old can do it by god everybody else can and she is a born and raised in this community her family's been here forever they own businesses she has three kids in this district so it again this ain't on us i'm not going to get into a class action lawsuit with a guy who's trying to run for state appellate judge because that's what mr devore is doing you want to do your homework do your homework he is announced
for appellate judge so i don't know how much pro bono time he's going to dedicate to trying suing the state of illinois in any number of districts that might be violating somebody's his perception of your rights he hasn't won one yet he's filed numerous against the courts numerous cases against the state of illinois again we ain't the state of illinois folks we're the valley view school district you don't like the laws there's election in november a year from now running the gamut find out who they are vote accordingly that's all i got i put in hundreds of hours on the phone with miss kinder other members of this community how do we do this the best and guess what we came up with there's no right answer we are not going to please everyone and
you know what i don't think we're going to try we're going to try to do the best we can but we know we're not going to make everybody happy but we're going to work really hard but you young folks up there my first job is to make you happy then we'll work on the rest of it take that message back to your school okay thank you very much for coming any announcements by the administration good evening just have one brief announcement this is for seniors at bolingbrook and romeoville high school please save the date for september 18th that is a saturday from noon to 4 p.m there will be an on-site college admissions tailgate so this is an outdoor event there's already 13 colleges and universities committed we're trying to add more in order to
participate the college or university needs to guarantee on-site admission to students at the event which means you can come to the event create a federal student aid id and literally be admitted on the spot to college on one of these campuses so again it's saturday september 18th from noon to 4 p.m it's at bowling brook high school door 17 but it is open to seniors from both of our high school campuses if you have any questions we'll be advertising this on social media and our website as well but you can also just call our district office directly ask for me my name is adam herder and we will get you all the information you need we're hoping for a great turnout in a way to support our kids and i'd just like to make a
quick editorial comment as the executive director for our middle and high schools i see students have these types of discussions and thoughts on a daily basis in our middle and high schools i also know that those types of discussions in a developmentally appropriate way occur in our elementary schools and i will take our kids over anyone else's kids no matter what neighborhood no matter where we're talking about this is an example these young men and women tonight deserve a lot of credit they also are an example of what all of our students act like how serious they are about their learning how serious they are about being able to talk about their learning in the future is indeed bright so much appreciation to our staffs at our middle and high schools as well as our
students great job tonight thank you mr herder any announcements from the public seeing none hearing none a motion to adjourn would be in order motion and second although the faith say aye opposed same sign i'm told that there is a skunk by one of the doors so if you go outside be careful you
