And I'll never forget I was teaching at Franklin Township School Corporation and I found out that Hein girls basketball team was going to the state finals and I I was proud of the fact that I was sitting there eating lunch with people that knew nothing about Hebrin and I said, "Yeah, my school's girls basketball team is going to the stage." you know, it was just a shock, you know, um because that doesn't happen very often. It's only happened once. But you and I have become close. You've coached my son. You coached a lot of kids here and you know, I'm just honored to not to work with you and to be around you. The same here. feel the same way. And so, uh, you know, obviously

this is always a home, right? And so, congratulations. >> Thank you. >> Well, I would I would like to just thank the board for for your support over 28 years sitting out there looking at sign where Helen's at. You got you got the name wrong out there, honey. You got Jerry Beck told home. It should be scary. Jerry, >> but uh I really do sincerely. It was hard. It was a hard decision to leave because it's been a great place to be. Um Kaggy will tell you that I cried in her office and I cried in Matt's office because I wasn't sure I was ready to go. I still love kids and enjoy this community. And I've been very fortunate for 28 years to be able to um have a good job and be able

to have an impact on kids. And I know that uh Mr. Brooks, I think I told you before, but I will tell everybody that when we first became the principal, Charlotte told me how much I would I would love you. I said, "But Charlotte, he's a suit." No, no, no, no, no. She goes, "You're gonna love him." and uh you were an amazing amazing uh middle school principal. I'd like to thank Mrs. Kegy for putting up with me for the past year. I do appreciate that. And Matt, I've been with you a long time and I really do appreciate everything you've done for me and I'll always be indebted to you. >> Thank you. >> Well, thank you. >> There were a lot of a lot of kid hugs. A lot of kid hugs that

So >> that's all good. >> Congratulations. >> Thank you. >> You can stay if you want. >> I You're good. >> Won't be rude. Go have dinner. >> You're fine. >> Congratulations. >> Can't believe they don't want to stay. Yeah. >> Uh, okay. Back to the order of business. Are there any additions or deletions to the agenda? six >> is that >> one item >> okay >> to change it's under new business um it's under the approval of the number of transfer students sixth grade is missing on that sixth grade should have an opening of four students that's the only issue So that addition is noted. Okay. Uh the consent agenda,

it's got minutes from May 12th, claims from May 2026, revenue report from April 2026, a pretty lengthy personnel report. So I'll entertain a motion to accept the consent agenda. >> I'll make a motion to accept the consent agenda. >> Second. Uh, any discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed. >> Motion passes. >> Mrs. Kegy, did you want to introduce the new >> biology teacher? Sure. >> Absolutely. >> This is Sarah R. She is going to be our new high school biology teacher. each four sections of bio one, one section of bio and one section onology and she comes to us from I had the pleasure of working with her when I was there as the assistant principal and um she and I had kept in touch and she told

me if I ever had an opening wherever I was to let her know I did and >> here we are. >> We went through the interview process with Nancy Allen and Cindy Brown and they also loved her. So we are very excited to welcome her to and I and very excited for our students. >> Thank you Sarah. >> Yeah. Um welcome. Thank you. And uh my apologies because I forgot the use of facilities for the July 4th the Heburn Run Club 5K. Uh, and then Wrongway Squared Answers. And then under fundraisers, there's a prompt committee promp um nothing bunt cakes. Um, elementary office will be doing elf shelf holiday store and then they'll also be doing a nothing bunt cakes um next February. So those would be in addition to correct. Yep. So back on

track. >> Yeah. >> New business. Uh every year we have to publish our transfer student planning and we have some numbers there. We've got openings in just about every grade level except our uh fifth grade at this time. That is always subject to change there simply because of students leaving um for a variety of reasons, but uh we've got many openings and if students want to transfer here, please uh send them our way. So, but um requests to transfer must be received by August 1st. so that we have a little bit of time to plan uh for the upcoming school year. >> Okay. So, we'll entertain a motion to approve the deadline of August 1st to accept transfer students from outside the school corporation. >> So, move. >> Second. >> Any further discussion? All those

in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Opposed. Motion passes. Next item of new business is an overnight international field trip. Mrs. Allen at the high school would like to take students in 2028 to Paris and Normandy. And obviously a lot about, you know, why we would go to Paris and Normandy. A lot of a lot of history there as well, World War II. So, thank Mrs. Allen for wanting to take this trip with students and you know it comes with all of the requirements that you would have to to go on that trip. They you know students pay there will be possibly other chaperones as well depending on those numbers as well. So uh this is a trip of a lifetime for some kids. >> Okay. uh entertain a motion to accept the overnight

international field trip for HHS in 2028. >> I'll second that motion. >> All right, there's a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I opposed. Motion passes. >> Next item on new business are some donations. We've got two donations. Uh, one is from our Hebrin Major League pitcher, Chad Patrick, in the amount of $2,484. He provided uh some food and snacks along with a charter bus to the boys baseball team this weekend to take their long ride to Loganport Regional. So, we'd like to thank Chad for that contribution and for all of his support of um of our boys there. And also, the Northwest Indiana Hustle Basketball Club and training is donating $400 to boys basketball team. >> Okay. I'll entertain a motion to approve

the donations from Chad Patrick and NWI Hustle. >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. Any further discussion? If not, entertain. Uh, all those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. I. Opposed. Motion passes. Next item of new business is the memorandum of understanding with our school resource officers and even police. We have some outstanding police officers that come here every day throughout the school year. This is just an updatedou for our records and to continue that partnership with the Hebrew police. So I'd like to thank Mike Grenice and Josh Noel, Chief Josh Noel for working on thisou. Um pretty much all of the terms are the same as last year. >> Okay. Uh entertain a motion to accept the me memorandum of understanding between MSD AON Township and the Heburn Police Department. >>

I'll make a motion. I'll second that. >> Any further discussion? Not. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Opposed. Motion passes. >> Worse. Thanks. Uh, next item is a policy and bylaw. It's a first reading. It uh there's just it's just a first reading today, but it's the cell phone policy. You've probably read that the Indian legislature passed a law banning cell phones. There are a variety of different ways to make this policy work. This policy that we've chosen has students allow students to bring their phones to school, but they must be off and in their lockers throughout the day. Um, that is happening pretty much at all schools for the most part. The one change will be at the high school where the students were allowed to have them this year

at lunch. They're not going to be allowed to have them this year. So, it's not that much of a change, but we do have to have this policy in place. And um we've also included it in the next first reading of the handbook as well. I think there's a like an infographic in there about it as well, but it matches. So, uh this is the first reading this policy. >> Okay. So the policy is the wireless devices prohibition ISPA code 4307 option A prohibits possession or use during the school day. A student may bring but is prohibited from possessing and or using a wireless electronic device which is portable and is capable of providing voice messaging or other data communications between two or more persons and includes cellular phones, tablet computers, laptop computers, digital cameras,

gaming devices, and or smartwatches or any similar device that is connected to a cell telephone, a cell tower, or the internet during the school day. A student may use such a device if a teacher requires use of a school supply device or a school sanctioned device for inststructional purposes only during the school day. The wireless devices must be stored away in >> locker. >> Okay. >> In their locker, powered off and inaccessible to the students. This policy is not violated in the following circumstances. A. When the student has been given permission from the teacher to use a school sanctioned or schoolprovided wireless device for educational purposes during the school day. B the student is authorized to use the wireless device at an appropriate time during an emergency. C. The students use of the wireless device

is to manage the students medical condition as documented by and pursuant to an order of a licensed health care provider. D. The use by the student of the wireless device is part of the students individual education plan or IEP or 504 plan. E. The use of the wireless device by student is necessary for language translation when no school managed device is available. F. The student uses an unobtrusive audio device that records for notetaking or personal learning assistance as long as the device captures only spoken word. Audio does not capture, store, or transmit images or video, is visible to the teacher when in use, is provided for inspection by school officials, and is used in a manner consistent with recording audio provisions of state and federal law. A recording made by such a device will not

be used for disciplinary evaluative or super supervisory purpose against a student or employee. A student may be disciplined including suspended or expelled for using a wireless electronic device in a manner for violating this policy and may have the device confiscated by school administration. The device will be returned to the parent. Legal reference IC20-26-5-40.7. This policy came from the Indiana School Board Association as a model policy. We've been using um Indiana School Board Association for our policy references the last several years. So, this comes directly from them. Okay. Is there a motion to accept the first reading of the wireless devices policy? >> I'll make a motion to accept the first reading of the wireless device program. >> Second that motion. >> Okay. >> Any further discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. >>

I. Opposed. Motion passes. >> And this last item of new business does not need vote. It's just for information only. It's uh the 20 the copy of the revised 2026 2027 universal handbook uh has some revisions in it mainly dates, times. Um there have been some additional wording, some items taken out. When you look at it, you'll see areas that are marked out, strikethroughs, and then areas that may have been added or altered in yellow. Um, just trying to make it a little bit more user friendly, a little bit easier to manage. and um just wanted to give this to you early so that we can get published possibly here by the July meeting uh to have that on the books for when registration really hits. So that's just anformational only great >> piece. >>

All right. Is that it for new business? >> That's it. >> Okay. Admin comments. information only. >> Okay with you. >> I'll go first this month. >> Um first off, we received this commendation from Representative Als uh in recognition of our 2025 IRA scores which will hang in the office next to the one from Secretary Jenner. Um, also hot off the presses, as of 6:07 this morning when I checked and texted Dr. Brooks, 100% of even third graders pass. >> All right. Nice. >> So, we can repeat as the highest corporation uh passing rate in Northwest Indiana. People can tie us, but we'll repeat from our community. Um, but >> I don't know if that's the first time. I I don't >> It is the first time. >> It's got to be the first time

we've ever been at 100%. >> Yep. Last year was the first time above 95%. This is the first time we've ever had. >> It's awesome. >> So, um, kudos all the way down to kindergarten, first, second. These teachers have worked really hard, um, for third grade reap benefits of getting all the kids there. Uh and thank you to Mrs. Drook as well as Mrs. Stuff. You've been working with uh the student we had left to pass. Uh Mrs. Droo came in and uh provided the assessment last Thursday and then this Monday uh so that the student could go out of town on vacation um today with their family. So everyone's worked really hard, which is a far cry from where I thought we'd be in February when I told you I thought we'd have about

seven kids not pass. >> Um so really really proud of the team. how hard they've worked. Um, speaking of that, Mrs. Duffy has been in for last week and this week working with our second graders and our third grader um, who did not pass and they the second graders are taking assessment um, today, tomorrow and then Thursdays we'll see how many of them can add to our 78% who have already passed. Um, just really awesome numbers for Hebrin and it's nice uh, to see fruits of the labor that the team has been putting in. Uh we are looking to hire two teachers for our structured social emotional classroom uh for this coming fall. Um one of them will be going to recommendation for approval next board meeting. Um and then we're looking for another one.

We're in have some interest from the community. So u definitely be looking to hire uh those at the next board meeting. Uh thank you Mrs. Hail for an awesome set of field days. Great turnout for the races from the community. We are also looking into a forced forfeite by the inflatable raccoon in lane one who appears in the video replay to have crossed the line and prevent the cat in lane two from winning the teacher inflatable race. Lot of contentious uh drama there. >> A lot of drama. Um so we're looking into that situation. >> Is that like the hot dog race that they have at the Brewers? >> It is. Our teachers do an inflatables race. Um it's about 100 yards. Very. >> Yeah. And the raccoon. >> I get in on that next

year. >> That's like right up my alley. >> It is very That's what >> Just don't don't go next to the raccoon. >> Um, thank you to the elementary cafeteria, elementary, and middle school cafeteria staff for a wonderful end of year staff lunch. Um, and we look forward to seeing everyone on August 10th for our annual back to school night, which will happen at 4:30 p.m. Um, it is being held before the first day of school this year. Also act as supply drop off. Um, be right out front throwing sponges at my face. Be great. Um, also today we'll go in the board meeting for um your acceptance next board meeting. Uh we accept we received a $30,000 check from the Hein uh not here the Porter County Community Foundation as part of their Berkeley

School Alliance um to renovate one of our empty classrooms into an indoor um community play space that will also be utilized by our preschool program um during times when they can't get outside. So, we'll receive a second dispersement in January um for a grand total of $60,000 um which will really make that space come to life. So, that'll be on next board meeting. The check came in today. So, very excited. >> I'm positive. Uh, our eighth graders had their awards tonight that Tuesday before he left school where we honored the 77 eighth graders that will go on the graduation pathway high school. Um, Zoe White, Dana Hall were named our shining stars through our partnership with IMLA or yeah, um, sixth and seventh graders had their honors day. Lastly, school. We also honored the spring

sports program and our esports team. So, it's nice to celebrate those students burn their peers. Um, our open house will be Monday, August 10th at 5:30. Um, and congratulations, Dr. Brooks, on being named the Indiana District 1 Superintendent of the Year through the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendent. Congratulations. Thank you for congratulating. >> I haven't I haven't done evaluations yet. So, >> took the words right out of my mouth. That was first on my mind. I was gonna say just that, but he said it first. So, I just want to second that. Congratulations. We are very lucky to have the best and >> the elementary invited >> and thank you for sending up your 77th graders. I'm very happy to take them under my meeting and welcome them to the high school since the

last meeting. This is last time we all got together here. A lot has happened at the high school. We had our senior pictures and our senior walk with the Little Hawks. We had our senior academic awards. We had finals. We had our senior parade. It was fantastic. We had our underassman academic awards and we had graduation. So, all went well, I would say. And I know everyone is looking forward to a restful and relaxing summer vacation. Um, I personally want to thank my entire office staff, the maintenance crew, the board, Dr. Brooks, uh, for all their help with graduation and making it a success. I certainly could not have pulled all of that off on my own. It takes a village and I have the best. So I want to thank everybody and I also

want to thank Mr. Beam, Mr. Kle, and Dr. Brooks for all of your support and guidance and just everything this year and making my first year here at a successful one. I could definitely not do it without the stat. I'm looking forward to year two and happy to welcome Sarah on board. >> Okay. Uh, >> Dr. Brooks. >> Yes. There's no public comments, I would assume. So, >> unless Mrs. Whit, >> just to give everybody kind of an update on the construction that's happening. Um, today they they poured part of the the flooring that then it rained, so they stopped, but they're going to continue that tomorrow. and that entire floor will be poured tomorrow. Have to let it cure for seven to 10 days. Then you'll start seeing the walls go up. Um, a

lot is going on with that that might not be aware, but it's just every day a lot of behind the scenes work happening in that trailer. And uh, it's all great work. It's um it's fun to be a part of and to finally see it come to light. So, it's going to be a wonderful addition for our kids for many years to come. Um, you know, the the one thing that we had talked about, we wanted that building to look like the building because we have such a beautiful high school and we've been able to match the brick on the side, the brown or the the red and the tan. And so, it's going to have that same look and feel of the high school. It's not going to just be an addition that you

can tell is just put up. And I think um that's just going to add to the beauty of the high school that we have. So just a lot happening there and I'm excited for it. But it's also going to make the festivities at Fourth of July a little bit more difficult around here. Um, I have had conversations with uh, Verarigi, our construction team, and uh, they're going to do everything they can do to button that area up during those two days because July 3rd, July 4th are pretty busy around here. Um, so we have that and we'll continue to meet about that and how to make that area safe so that people don't get inside that area, especially at night. So, they've been great to work with though, the Bary team and the construction groups

that have been on campus. They've been very respectful of everything that we had going here at the end of the year. And then I'm just looking forward to Fourth of July around here. It's just an exciting time. Love coming here on third fireworks. And we still have we've got some great vendors coming back again on the 4th or on the third at night. And then uh David Lee, Mr. Lee, our band director, is hosting a concert and it's kind of a patriotic themed concert and it's going to be before the fireworks on July 3rd. It's during the day. I I don't know the exact time. I can send that out. Maybe four. Is it six six o'clock? >> And so he's going to be in the high school auditorium for that and hopefully he has

great attendance at that. They come outside, watch the fireworks at night and obviously the parade and the the run here on the on the 4th. So So hopefully everybody is safe on that day and they can enjoy um that weekend. Okay, that's all I have. >> All right. Any board comments? >> Congratulations, Mr. Gra. >> Anyone else? >> Entertain a motion to adjurnn. >> Make that motion. Second that motion. All right. So moved. Meeting is >> adjourned.
