001Uh, if you'd like to join us, feel free. If you'd like to sit it out, now's a good time to do so. Mr. Swell. All right, let's pray. Good Jesus, thank you for this day. Thank you for all the blessings today to be in this corporation, at this school, and the beautiful day we've had in the week of good weather. Just ask you to be with the administrators, the teachers, every staff member here to have a great last month of school, to have non-eventful, and help the students to be calm and wind it up great. Study hard and and do their best. We just ask you always to be positive influences on the students who walk through these doors. Amen. Amen. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to
002the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. All right, I call this meeting to order. First thing on the agenda is the approval of the agenda. >> [clears throat] >> Anybody have any questions? I'll entertain a motion on the agenda. I'll move. Second. Any discussion? All in favor say aye. Aye. All opposed? Motion carries 3-0 to absent. Uh, Mr. President, very positive of the month. We had an event last week we're really proud of. And it was called our senior signing day. We talked about this for last couple of years, had this as a goal. And I want to be careful because I I don't want to miss anybody giving credit, but I know uh Karen Lloyd had a lot to do with this. Uh Anna
003Walters, Charlotte sure did. Um, but many staff members at the high school, Mr. Middleton. It was just a great event. Appreciate you guys doing it. Got a few pictures just to give you an idea. If you're not familiar with what this is, I don't know when this started, but years ago as college or high school athletes declared, you know, what college they would be going to, they had a big, you know, signing ceremony at these high schools and they're all over ESPN and news and and slowly started to see this kind of happening with some other than the trades and the colleges. Um I went to the MAC a couple years ago in the Carpenters Union. We had some boys sign uh at an event there. So, this was an opportunity to get every one
004of our seniors that wanted to, right Mr. Middleton? Am I saying that right? And they would they had their moment in front of the whole student body parents, yes, um to be able to sit with somebody that and had obviously a positive influence. Let's see what speech I checked there. So, in this one, so I was just really cool event. Um and I just appreciate them doing it. There's Mr. Wagner. He came in, sat with Max. So, it was cool. Very, very neat and they all had this uh certificate, I guess was their official signing. So, Mr. Middleton, you have anything you want to say on it? Uh I mean, it was I was just telling Karen she did a great job with it. Jill Thomas also helped quite a bit. Um It was amazing
005how nervous seniors were. You know, I know you don't have to speak, right? So, you just have to come up and sign your name, but uh you know, we had one young man that that was really, really nervous, but his picture is my favorite cuz he's holding up and it's it's it's an opportunity he's he's not going to have a lie. You know, he has that path in life here. Uh that Monroe said will sell. It was a great day. Went well. I think for both one we had what we we told seniors they needed to participate and I think we had all but 10. Job well done. I I will just add I was fortunate enough to be able to go. It was fantastic. Great way to recognize the kids, show what they're doing,
006also great way to show the young students that were in attendance. Here's some options for the future that you might not have been thinking about. So, whether it was trades, military, college, whatever, just kind of gave others an idea of opportunities out there. So, that was great. They each got their own special pin says North Central signing day. Put that in there. So, they got a little momentum from that. So, it's cool. It was really neat neat deal. So, I appreciate it. Everybody was involved to pulling that off. All right, at this time we'll take comments from patrons. If you'd like to address the board, please step to the podium, state your name and address, and limit your remarks to 3 minutes or less. All right, moving on to the consent agenda. Any changes, Mr.
007Mom? No minutes, claims, donations, and just one study trip for the agenda of the year. Looks pretty good. All right, I will make the motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. Second. Any discussion? All in favor say I. Uh all opposed? Motion carries 3-0 to absent. All right, under financial I have a contract with US Architects keep Gary. I'd like to recommend the board approve Mrs. Taylor and myself, uh Ms. Haney. I can't remember who else was brought. Uh we met last week or a week or so ago um with Keith to kind of walk the sixth grade the current sixth grade wing and now to give him a vision of what we thought we we might want to do with that area as we transition to a daycare. Uh Keith has done some
008work for us before. He actually did the the restroom project that's down there. And he used to be US Architects is where Keith Pugh was uh worked. So, Keith Gary Gary and Keith Pugh are former partners and what Keith Pugh has done all kind of work for us. Admin building and both the outside buildings the softball building. So, good good company, good folks. Good people. Um and obviously used we used Sparktoe for the the large uh addition that we did a few years ago. I mean, I think we can go with someone more local. This is not necessarily something we're going to put out to bid in the fashion that we did that project. Um going to break this up probably up a lot of smaller pieces. Do a lot of in-house work. So, I
009think Keith will be great for this project. So, this is just to initially get them started. And then um I think it's a $7,500 uh time and materials estimate. And it's to get a um a design-build concept ready for us for the daycare wing. Any questions? What's the time frame on maybe trying to start something there? This next school year? Depends on who you ask. Uh I mean, the the type of work that's going to be done is it's going to be difficult to have it done next school year. I mean, I I think sure. Yeah. I think we're we're just we're potentially looking at depending on how the drawings come out what we do, maybe possibly dividing it up and do it half the work on one side using the other side possibly. And
010then flipping that. So, fair to say that's kind of We need the space. Yeah. And we take the C the sixth grade empty all school year when we already need the space and right now we have one room, but we're going to need three for next year with the numbers we already have. So. Work in progress to get it all completed and try to use the space. It's not like it's a complete gut job. Um. Yeah. But, you know, we are taking out walls, putting in doors, sure, exterior doors. You know, there's probably going to be some plumbing involved. There's restrooms, baby hand washing stations. So. That that's difficult to have school Sure. Those areas when that's going on. Yeah, I know and talking to him we we were kind of brainstorming an idea maybe
011have it at Really at this point we just need to get him in. We need to get some concepts down on paper, start looking at them. I'll give you a better idea of what the timeline is going to be. Any other questions? All right, I'll entertain a motion on the MCE renovation architect. So moved. Second. Any discussion? All in favor say aye. Aye. All opposed. Motion carries 3-0 2 absent. Next item is a resolution on enrollment of transfer students. This is a yearly tradition. I bring this the same document to the board every year. We are required to get permission from the board to accept transfer students. And then obviously we have to put this out on our website. We can set a limit and we do and we arbitrarily picked 120 knowing that all
012I learned would never go ahead on 120 in the grade level. So nothing's changed on this, but we are required to do this. We're also required to set a a cutoff period. Some schools cut off early in the summer. Some schools cut off at semester. We in the past have accepted transfers throughout the school year all the way up to the very last day. So again, I'm putting June 1st of 2027 for accepting transfers. There are some exceptions. Obviously possession of deadly weapon, those kind of things, causing physical injury to a student or staff member in the school they're coming from. But again, if you accept transfers, you you know, you're not picking and choosing. You cannot deny a student as a transfer just because they might be a poor academic student. Um if you
013accept, you have to accept. Any questions on that? No. All right. Yeah, I'm sorry. I'll just just remind public and the board that we currently run about 34 to 35% of our student population of out of district students. So about 35. I'll entertain motion on the resolution of enrollment of transfer students. I motion. Second. Any discussion? All in favor say I. I. All opposed. Motion carried 3-0, two absent. Okay, so appointments, staff members. Uh I'm just going to read you one of these. You guys can figure out how you want to take them, but for certified staff, um we have a third grade opening elementary teacher, uh Jordan Simpkins. Is that correct? That is Jordan Bargie. The Simpkins doesn't ring a bell, so And then we have two teachers here tonight with us. Carolyn and
014Samantha are here with us tonight. Um they are for all intents and purposes been staff members here at Monroe Central sometime. Um they work in our building and do a fantastic job, but officially, technically, they've been GRIC employees. Obviously, we've been paying for them, but being billed through GRIC, but with the transition going on at GRIC, uh we would like to get them officially hired as Monroe Central staff members. Again, not changing necessarily their role, but they would be uh on our payroll. Obviously, report directly to Miss Bye. Uh so that's Carolyn, the preschool teacher, and Samantha, our second corporation SLP. And then for Mr. Middleton, he has uh recommended his summer school teachers, Miss Smiley, Miss Wolman, Miss Summers, and Miss Tierney Donald. You guys got anything you want to say on your folks
015that you're recommending? We're excited about Jordan joining us. Another Bear coming back home. All right, any questions? Uh yeah, we've got some great appointments, and I'm excited as well. So, I will make the motion to approve the certified staff appointments. Second. Any discussion? All in favor say I. I. All opposed? Motion carries 3-0, two absent. Uh next up we have a classified staff resignation, Erin Cox, who's a high school custodian. Erin is actually a an Ivy Tech student. I found this out in the class that I teach cuz she came in to speak to her kids. Uh she's working on her teaching uh degree, so just uh she did a nice job for us, hate to lose her, but uh she's just got some other opportunities and she's moving on with her life, so wish
016Erin all the best. I will entertain a motion on the classified staff resignation. I second. I move that we accept this resignation for Erin Cox. Second. Any discussion? All in favor say I. I. All opposed? Motion carries 3-0, two absent. Uh classified staff appointments, um these are all with Cub Academy and our daycare uh preschool area. So, I'll read these off. Little Cubs Preschool Student Apprenticeship, Channel Breedlove. Uh Little Cubs Early Learning Center Apprenticeship, Kaylee Foreman. Uh Little Cubs Early Learning Center Apprenticeship, Kaylee Effner. Effner? Yeah, Effner. Kaylee Effner. And then uh two kindergarten interns. We're going to talk about kindergarten later on in the meeting, but uh these are uh will be seniors, Arma Armor and uh Isabella Scott. So, I know Miss Taylor was involved in some of these. I know Miss Bly
017was involved in recommending a few of these. Uh anything you want to say about these folks? So, the first three have completed first year of the early childhood pathway with Mrs. Haney. And so, this is their apprenticeship that they'll be doing for their second year. And then, the other two at the bottom, they have done the principles of teaching, which is Mr. Moulton's class. Um highly recommended to be able to help in the kindergarten. And they all had to apply for these positions, and they were interviewed. Um I know I think for Renee's for the child care and the preschool, we had like 10 people apply. So, those were the And we actually had Alyssa Butterfield out of the central office interview them because we know them personally. And so, we felt like we didn't
018want to be the one interviewing. And Alyssa did a great job. So. We're excited. Uh and I I If I missed this, I apologize, but we do have some funding sources for these, correct? Yes, they're all going to do the work and learn. Um we've already got approved for three the two of the three. Um and we get half of it back. So, there's some paperwork that the students have to do, paperwork I have to do, and then I do a monthly log entry of their hours, and then we get half that back. So. That's state funded. >> It's It's state funded, and each each facility can get back 45,000 back a year. So, we're not out 45,000, but it's a really great um option that we have, and it does help bring that money
019back in. Um they're all $10 an hour. Um this bottom two will stay at $10 an hour. The top three, they're apprenticeships, so they're actually um with the state. And so, when they get certain competencies done, we have to move up price, like their pay. So, they start out at $10 an hour, and they can get up to 13 by the time they finish Renee's class for the first the second year and have their CDA. We had something this year that the board approved. Yeah, yep, the summary is Yep. Do I have any questions? You guys are good to take all these down, but All right, I'll entertain a motion on the classified staff appointments. I'll make the motion as presented. Second. Any discussion? All in favor say I. I. I. All opposed? Motion carries
0203-0 to two absent. All right, it is handbook night as we think about next school year. Um, some pretty big items this year that the uh the uh principals and staffs have had to consider. Obviously, the cell phone policy is a big one. Uh, we had the kind of first reading last month about the home school participation policy, so um, lots of changes. So, I don't know who wants to go first. I put high school on there first, but um, who would like to talk about their handbook and anything that's going in there that changes. All right. This slide you're up. Okay, so we can just um, page 11, of course, we took grade six out of all of it because six grade is moving. Hand it over to Mr. Middleton. Um, then we also
021included the cell phone electronic device policy uh effective this next school year. It It was the same as what was presented to you guys, so kids can bring them, but they have to be in their lockers, turned off, not accept- accessible all day long for the school day. So, that's outlined. Um, and then we also included Nurse Jill Thomas wanted us to include a bed bug protocol and response policy, so that's added to ours. And then um, at the very end of the technology section, Mr. Hedlund gave us a new description of parental control and student filtering outside of the school. So, that policy is included in here as well on page 27. That was it. Shelton, you want to go ahead? So, yeah. So, just kind of how the process worked for us. Carrie
022can can vouch for this. She's kind of the the language artist behind it all, but so we kept the cell phone policy the same across the district. So, that's the same verbage obviously. Uh Mr. Hedlund's language as well. Um The big thing is like we talked about is the home school policy for athletics as well as ECAs. Um So, passing four or excuse me, they have to they have to take one with the four four classes. They have to be passing at the end of uh the semester, end of the quarter, end of the nine weeks to be eligible to play. Um and they're expected to stay in school during the duration of that season. So, where it gets kind of tricky um is winter sports. Because they'll have to be if they're there in
023the fall and in the in the spring. So, the language is there. I know we we've uh reviewed it a few times and made some changes. Carrie caught the thing just when I when was the last week, Carrie, that we we made the final changes on it. So, um Yeah, I think that's really the biggest the biggest change. Do you want to give an update on the asynchronous I was going to get to it. I was going to do that in my report if that's all right. Yep. Yeah. So, we need to thank the Andersons. together? Does anybody have any questions or any issue with doing that? Good. Okay, I will make a motion to approve the MCHS and MC new student handbook books as presented. Second. Any discussion? All in favor say I. I.
024All opposed? Motion carries 3-0, two absent. I thank everybody that worked hard on that. Started a little earlier this year and uh several meetings, so uh well done. Um Ed Options Virtual School. So, this is a new world that we're getting into and I've already talked to some of the board members about this, but and they see it by reading their school board news because every day, I think every week, we're seeing new virtual schools pop up. So, it's when we say virtual schools, we're not talking thousands and thousands of students like the example we've seen the last several years at Union. Um pretty much if you're a high school in in Indiana, you either have a virtual school option or you will move into a virtual school option. That's just kind of where we're
025at, so uh Mr. Milton brought this to me a couple months ago and he's been exploring it and I'll let him explain kind of why we think it's absolutely necessary that he has this tool in his toolbox as a high school principal, so Go ahead. I have them here if you want. Where? Yeah. Yeah. So, I know you have a packet um in there, so I didn't create a PowerPoint, but how this came about is as we kind of learned through uh Edmentum that a lot of us, most of us have not been trained, So, we set up some virtual meetings with Jane and a couple of new people and so we started talking about Ed Options Academy. And so they're Ed Options is the the leading provider in the state. Around 280 schools that
026that use Ed Options. Um You know, there's a there's a phrase that I heard a guy say one time in a in a conference and said, you know, we don't we don't have to like it, but we have to kind of accept that it's real, right? And and so it's coming. I know Winchester, I know Liberty Perry. Uh So, with with our surrounding schools doing it, I just I first with Mr. Bolton and just he's you know, he hit it on the head. It's a tool that we need. Um I feel like in our back pocket to to uh save students up at Grove Central. Uh I think everybody in the room would agree that students being in the building and being here on a daily basis is is what we want. Um But I
027do think it's important to uh to have an option such this. For For a school to have uh to go a different route in terms of a school number and stuff, you have to be over 100 students. My proposal on this is if we did something like this, we start off small. Um Ed Options The good thing that we learned about and maybe Anna you can and clarify if I'm wrong here or say something wrong, but we have a lot of control over what courses we have. Uh what goes into those courses. And then Charlotte spoke with with uh Ed Minam last week just to kind of see what her role would be in that. We can we have the option to enroll students in the courses that we want. The good thing about it
028is is once we have that and turn it over, then our student would have a teacher of record full-time that would monitor the student, make sure that you're doing everything they need to do in terms of grading, progress monitoring, monitoring, parent communication. Um but we can still line up our grade our grading scale. I mean, we can we have full control of all that stuff. Um I don't know how deep you want me to go into this, but the way that it works is per student, like I said, I've taken, you know, at most 10 to start with, but per student it's $2,500 a year. And so, you know, I put the example in here. If we get five right off the bat in August, we would cut a check to EdOptions for $12,500. The
029good thing about that is is that money is not lost if a student decides to not be in that program any longer. So, what will happen is is if it if it's us here, right? They're going to pull out I I'm going to $2,500 is what the school is going to pay for me to be in that. So, each month they're going to pull out $250 for me, they pull out $250 for Ann, Mandy, and so on, right? And say Sierra doesn't end up doing it, that money stays in the pot and that would go to a new student coming into her position. Does that make sense? And so, it's a they've set it up well on that. Um they've done a really, really good job, I think, of of maybe creating new tools or
030maybe just making us aware of what is available on their side of things. I mean, obviously, you know, cheating is is a big concern putting into Google. So, we kind of ran into that today. Um Greg can tell you that, but you know, they have a lockdown browser, so students won't be able to to just Google answers. I know they they work on that all the time. Uh They have what's called copy leaks, which prevents plagiarism as well. Uh so, there's a lot of information on this. They also offer, you know, a lot of pathways. They offer TORs for students um special needs. Uh I would look at you know, with with the way it's set up, I would be the the point of contact. Um And that kind of concludes the responsibilities of of
031all that and tells in the in your packet. Uh Again, I know it's not ideal, but I do think it's it's something that we need to have in our back pocket. So, you know, the big thing too just for everybody sitting over here, you know, I I don't like the term return on investment. The students are, you know, they are investments, but they're not dollar signs. But, just so we kind of know how it works out. So, next year, uh funding allocation per student is just a little bit above $7,000. Uh If a student is full-time online, we retain 85% of that. So, $2,500 per student annually, you take out the 85%, what we pay for, you know, the $2,500 to EdOptions, you know, the school still gets that funding of of $3,500. And so
032the decision really comes to that point in time is are we going to you know, are we going to have something on our of our own or we going to let that $3,500 go down the drain? And that's kind of It's kind of what we're looking at. So uh Any questions on that? Is that 282 schools in the state use Ed Options? Anybody local? 280 district Yeah, pretty much everybody. I mean, that's That who Winchester and Fleming I'm not sure if that's who they're going with officially. Pearson I cuz I I run that program over there. They're Pearson. Yeah. Okay. So yeah, there's a lot. How many do you have enrolled in there right now in the middle? We're between 18 and 20. But we're we've And we started small, too. Yeah. We do have
033one elementary student. But then we have vast majority is 6 through 12. Cool. That's good. Well, I mean, we we would focus heavily on high school. I would, too. Any other questions? Anything else? I think we're good. I appreciate Mr. Milton for researching this. Like I said, I got to think about We're after I'm going to have to have to have this option. All right, I will entertain a motion on the MCHS Ed Options virtual school offering. I'll move. Second. Any discussion? All in favor, say I. I. All opposed? Motion carries 3-0, two abstentions. Thank you, Mr. Middleton. Okay, just some things that I'd like to report out on. One being synchronous learning. This was in the handbooks, and I appreciate Mr. Stansbury bringing that to my attention because we had talked about it back
034in January, but we really had not revisited it until it showed up in the handbook. So, I talked to the staff about it. We had lengthy discussions back January, February about this. So, just just a reminder cuz these get confusing. I still confuse them. Asynchronous learning is currently what we do what we would call our virtual learning days where students have modules or whatever they have to complete, and they can complete that um wherever, whenever they want to. The state will allow for inclement weather up to three asynchronous days a year. Okay, and that's been the last two or three years where that has been on the books. So, we obviously utilize those days when we have bad weather. We also have some built-in snow days in our calendar, usually MLK Day um and Presidents'
035Day. But to be honest with you, um you know, like MLK Day is the second or third week of January and typically we've not had terrible, terrible weather or at least enough to even use that as a makeup day. So, what you're looking at usually is would be makeup days at the end of the school year, tacking them on at the end of the school year. And I can just tell you that that is just it's whereas maybe years ago wasn't that big a deal. Now it is. But with statewide testing I read being in March and the Ilearn being in the April, first part of May, um you you want as many instruction days as you can get in before those tests. And certainly coming back to school for additional days after Memorial Day,
036the first week of June, it's just it's silly. It really is. You also have seniors, I mean, that are starting to make work plans and already starting classes which potentially um so we really want to try to hold to that last school day the best we can. But obviously, if we get into a bad bad weather year, we use all our three asynchronous days, we use our makeup days, we don't get any waiver days, then we're stuck. We have no other option right now but to put them at the end of the school year. So, many schools have gone back to utilizing synchronous which is obviously what we utilized during COVID and it was terrible and everybody hated it including the superintendent. So, I'm not saying again, let's go back to the reference I used
037with Mr. Middleton. I would just and our staff would just like to have this as a tool almost like a tool behind like break glass in case of emergency type of deal. We would not utilize this option or tool unless we get to the case where it's looking like we're going to have to add days at the end of the year. We would use our asynchronous days. We would try to use our makeup days. We would obviously apply for waivers which we did get one waiver this year. Um but then if all those options are exhausted, we would like to use synchronous learning which again would be live instruction on the day that we are missing from 8:00 to 3:00 or whatever it is, where the teacher is providing live instruction to the student um
038virtually. Okay. I can tell you, like this year was as close as we got to getting over uh cuz we used our three asynchronous, and we got one waiver. But we would not have had any use synchronous learning this year. And then going back the last two or three years, we didn't we barely even used all our asynchronous that days. So, again, this is in case we really This came up because we did have some bad weather early, as early as Thanksgiving, I think. Thanksgiving weekend is when we got our first snow, and um we were getting nervous. You know, what happens if we get a big blizzard in late January, 1st of February, we're out of days, we're looking at making up school in May or June, and uh we hope to have this
039option. What questions do you have for me about that? Any principals or Mr. Headland or anybody? What's the practice day of 18? So, um with not having done this since COVID, um we would like to propose, and again, I haven't even cleared this with our staff, and I'm just throwing this out there, and I'd like to talk to you about this week, possibly doing a practice day um before we get And I don't think this is something we would have to do every year, but I would like to at least go through this once to make sure that everything works. And the other part would be all staff would report here that day. Obviously, the weather would hopefully not be bad. We're not in a fog. That way we can troubleshoot any issues we might
040have with staff. Um but the idea would be typically, if we would do these, the staff would be not reporting to school. Okay? So, Brent, uh Nick, Mandy, do you have anything you want to talk about practice day and how that would possibly look? Again, I'm just proposing this. I'm not saying that this is done yet, but Our staff was very receptive to it just because a lot of them have not done it because they're new hires since COVID. And so, having it in the building, having the teachers in the building with tech there to be able to help out. Like and kind of your your teaching buddy next to hold their hand and work out kinks. We We thought that was really good and the staff did too. This would be a Friday. But
041again, it would be a school day. It would count as a school day because you're not limited on synchronous days. Okay, thank you. There is no maximum >> no approval or anything? I want to be very careful with that. Obviously, I don't want to abuse this because again, we know what happened with COVID. And and and I think some school corporations that were using synchronous learning just watching the TV like everybody else does in the winter time and you see all those It's like the same ones over and over and over are canceling on days like you really probably shouldn't be canceling a day, but they were going to synchronous learning. Some schools even this winter used probably five or six synchronous days. Uh I I would not want to be doing that. I guess
042any objections to us trying this? Again, I'm not positive the 18th is the best day. I need to talk to our staff, but we would like to get at least one practice day in earlier in the school year. I know that that came as a request of the staff and I am not in education and I am just not education. I My concern is working from My wife and I are self-employed. We can make this work. I There's others that can't. And there's grandparents that are trying to figure out how to run a Chromebook. So, that's that's my concern as as a as a parent. We have flexibility, but I know everybody doesn't. And it's a lot of work for for that scenario. And I And coming to school after Memorial Day is a waste
043of time. I mean, we go camping every year. I promise you my voice check out. So, this to come back and watch a movie or whatever in the elementary, and I know that there's no other testing. So, I I get both sides of it. My concern is just how it works how it works at home, how the environment works at home with everything else going on. We had talked about recordings where the teacher could We have the ability to record the teacher, too, so that people working families when the parents get home at night. Or we've also talked about just like we do now, we have a couple days to make up for kids that don't have internet. We have that whether they make them up or not. Thank you. Okay. It's an option. I'm
044not against it. I'm just worried and concerned about I mean, we we will try it on September 18th, and we may come back to you and say this did not work, and we are not comfortable using it this year, but I'd like to at least try it on the 18th and see what we how it goes and what kind of feedback we get from our district staff, also our parents communities. I don't know of any one group that wants to do this. So, I Yeah, true. True, true. That's right. Or something. Maybe we need to add to it. You know what if we did the limited jury? Sure. All right, next item I have is just I put it in your packet because some years I forget to do this, Uh, but I just wanted
045you to see the master schedule, the board I'm cleaning up here, and the amount of time that it takes to uh schedule a small school when you have as many singletons as we do. And when I talk about singletons, that's just like you over one time a day, there's one obviously small group of kids. Try to get all those in in the schedule. Try to get them all. Charlotte does a fantastic job. I don't know if she's going to be here tonight, but I already had this on here, so we want to thank Charlotte for all her work and her team. Um but it's it's quite process. I appreciate the staff being patient with her cuz it's not it's it takes time. And you got to work several rounds. I know Ann helps her and
046they they uh audit each one of those and great job on her master schedule, so yeah, take a look at that. And um just job well done on that. Enrollment, I just quickly want to say just a couple things on that. Um I don't have my graph up here tonight. You've seen it many, many times with all the different colors and the cohorts going back the last 15 years, but um we do have one more small senior class, okay? So, why is that a good thing? Well, that means you take a small group out. You know, on the other end on the kindergarten, you hope to bring in at least that big a group or bigger, and that will help you in your enrollment. But I will say that after this group of seniors, the
047next four or five groups are well into the 70s and 80s. So, we're going to see unless you replace with that, even if everything else stays the same, you don't lose any kids in between there, you're automatically going to see a drop of 10, 15, 20 kids overall every year because your big classes are going to start cycling through. And if you again, I'll say it one more time. If you don't replace them with big classes, you're going to see a drop in enrollment and that doesn't mean that people are leaving Monroe Central. It just means they're not starting with the same amount of kids that you're ending with. Okay? So, that said, small group leaving, um graduating, we're replacing with a pretty average group of kindergarten numbers. So, new kids, you were at Are
048you at 70? 68? >> I believe we're like 71 now. >> 71 new and then you have some retentions in there, too. So, 71 with a group of 60 or so leaving, you'd see a plus 10 there just there, so um it's good. I think I I've shared with the board that I had not made this decision at the last board meeting, but based upon our round up and that number 71 and some retentions, we are we're looking at four sections kindergarten. Which section we had three sections. Okay, yeah. A classroom of 61 kindergartners. So, the position is a posted right now. Yeah, we're interviewing. Getting uh lots of applications this year. Which is good. This is why we're going to go with that, but um four sections kindergarteners is the plan. Anything else you
049guys want to say on staffing, master schedule, enrollment before I talk about some business? Can I make a comment about the master schedule just for the public's information? I noticed art was an offering on the master schedule, so contrary to rumor, there will be art offered at the high school. Correct? Yes. And I don't understand any of that master schedule, but that that is a working live document that does not do justice on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. But, a lot of information. All right, from your small small business officials, they just had an update come out and I included in the board's packet. There were couple big items there, but the one I want to point out is the revenue forecast that that came We're in a non-budget year at the
050state level. So, it was the short session. That's why they got done in March. Um next session will be the long session. It will be a budget session. They won't finish until probably the 1st of May at the earliest. But, they they they have typically at least two forecasts a year that come out. One usually in December, one in April. So, we're still looking at at least a December forecast and then they'll wait usually before they release the budget till they get that April forecast. But, the April 26 forecast was very good. Uh the revenue was good. Um I mean, obviously, you've been looking at national news and you hear about inflation. Inflation's awful for people. But, when you put taxes on higher dollar items, you're going to collect more revenue. Same way with the
051gas. We repealed the gas tax in Indiana, but when when you were selling $4 gas and you got a gas tax on that, yeah, you're bringing in more revenue. So, the forecast was good. Um we hope that will will hold. I mean, it was um in April, they they forecasted um almost 8% higher in revenue than they they anticipated. So, uh that's good sign. That's a good sign as they go into working on a budget for next year. Bus inspection. Um we got a new bus that came in since the last board meeting. Um, couldn't get it on the road to inspection. We had inspection last Friday. David Hosier, outstanding job once again. Got all his buses through. Um, I think he had three light bulbs. Like one was on a step. I can't remember.
052One was a clearance light. That's all he had to do the entire day. Well, he had a lot to do today as far as fixes to get things reinspected. All the buses passed. So, tremendous job by David. Appreciate his work. I know Nick's been helping him and everybody chipped in, but we got them through. Staff appreciation week uh was last week. We got to feed our staff and PTO and community and everybody. It's quite a week of just seems like eating all the time. Donuts We just eat all week, but it was very nice. We have a lot of outstanding staff members and um really it was nice this year that we had I don't know if this was organized or not, but we just had some nice emails from outside parents and it was
053just nice to get those about some specific staff members, staff members in general. Uh I included one in your packet just I had three or four of them, but I included one about a teacher that I just wanted the board to know about, so it was nice to get those during that week. Appreciate those people take the time to communicate that to the appropriate people. Um with that, um once again this year we will not have an end of year breakfast just because of the way the calendar falls. Um, our kids finish up on Friday before Memorial Day. We are giving our teachers uh a flex day. They can work all weekend. They can come in on Tuesday after They're they're flexing their work day, so we're not Everybody won't be here that morning to
054do awards. So, I'm coming to the elementary on Monday to pass out some service awards. Giving Mrs. Newton her rocking chair. She's our one teacher retiring. We're doing that Monday afternoon. And then we also have the alumni association as uh I think there's staff members of the year that I'll be getting out next week. I need to verify time with Mr. Middle and his staff, but just remind her of that. And then finally class of '26, um been a really really good senior class. A lot of great great young people in that class. Uh I think it's been a good school year for them. They've been strong leaders in the building. Uh I think it's been a smooth year at the high school and I credit a lot of that to the senior leaders that
055we have walking up and down the hallways. Uh I've enjoyed getting to know a few of them. And uh you know, as we wind it up here, uh we got senior awards coming up. We got the baccalaureate service. I think at Christ Fellowship, I believe this year. So, uh just be thinking about your seniors. Special time for them. And then it's all downhill to graduation on May 31st. So, 2:00. I think that's what I've got. May I have something? Yep. Um the senior signing day, um I was with a high school parent, senior parent, after that event, um the next day actually, and he spoke very highly of it and he said that Ms. Haney got quite the workout from going up and down a bunch of different times and he was super impressed with
056the early morning program and it's obviously having an effect that she's the most popular lady that day is what I and sign. So, it's great for the pathways, great the school, great that we have more people that want to be involved in early education. We had I don't know what to say. We had um six graduates from Mining Tech Saturday. Yeah, I saw that I saw that one posted as well. It was really cool to see. So, and then I have one other thing absolutely zero school board related. Yesterday was my wife's 40th birthday and we got a bunch of cupcakes. So, take a cupcake home with you so they're not at my house tomorrow. I'm her age. I've actually known her since I was No, 40 40. Older than me and that's a fact.
057Um no, we had them at the ball diamond last night and I told everyone there that she was 40. So, saying that she's 40 in today is nothing at this point. So, but please they're vanilla, chocolate, I mean they are homemade, they're very very good. Help yourself. So, Swallow anything? Mr. Mr. Swallow is a great principal. Yeah. Big week. And I hope the students have a great last month and there's no issues and things go good. Yeah, I'll just add it it seems like it's been a great school year. So, I appreciate everything everybody's done to make that happen. Um I will say this also, everybody deals with loss throughout the year and we don't know what people are going through. Our neuro central community seems to have been hit pretty hard here in the
058last week or two. So, just keep everybody in your thoughts and prayers uh that have had some losses here recently. And with that, let's continue with the great weather and let's get these kids out for the summer. Thanks, everybody. Meeting adjourned.
