001I'm not sure why [snorts] last year people think about My wife somewhere. Yeah. They're all strugg [clears throat] Dr. Estus, are you ready? >> I'm ready. >> All right, we'll call the meeting to order. At this time, we'll stand for the pledge of allegiance and a moment of silence. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Dr. Estus, I will turn it over to you to go over our BCSC vision. Sounds great. We have a packed house today. Lots of exciting things um and recognitions today. We're super excited about that. We'll start with the vision as we always do. Together with our community, BCSSE is committed to providing an engaging and

002relevant learning environment based on a strong foundation of academic knowledge, transferable skills, and real world experiences. Batesville Bulldogs embody confidence, empathy, and resiliency to ensure a 21st century success. So, we will start with our consent agenda items. Uh, first on the docket is minutes of the last meeting. Does anyone have any questions on the minutes? >> No. Stephanie, I reviewed them. I'll make a motion that we approve the minutes as present. >> Thank you, Jeremy. >> I'll second it. >> Thank you, Larry. All those in favor say I. >> Motion carries. >> Thank you. Next on the agenda, uh, payroll journals and register of claims. Any questions on those? >> Todd, was there anything additional today? >> Additional? Yeah, it's 19 pages, but the first 14 are payroll. >> Oh, okay. Got it. Um, sorry,

003you did have the amplify bill for the K through six bills on here and that was77,000. The rest of them are just smaller bills that came in later. >> Got it. Thank you. >> Any other questions? >> I'll make a motion to accept the bills as presented. >> Thank you, Larry. >> Second. >> Thank you, Jeremy. All those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed same sign. Motion carries. >> Thank you so much. Next on [clears throat] the agenda, we have our personnel report. Very busy uh for the month of May and much of that is of course getting us ready for the next school year so that we'll be set and ready to go on that first day. Um we'll go ahead with approval and then we have a special announcement uh

004regarding the personnel report. So we have some guests here. Any questions? [snorts] Katie, just curious out of like some of the open positions, any of those of any like concern in terms of trying to fill or we think between now and through the summer we'll be able to >> um of course it's an um ever evolving situation when it comes to hiring. Um but the positions we have open right now, we feel like we have plenty of time, so I think we're going to be in good shape. >> Good. I'll make a motion to approve the personnel report. >> Thank you, Jeremy. >> I'll second that. >> Thank you, Larry. All those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed same sign. Motion carries. >> Wonderful. So part of what you just approved was

005um the hiring of our new Batesville Primary School principal. And so uh she is here today, Kendra Moore with her family. And so I just want to um say that we did a very extensive search for our next principal. Um had lots of excellent candidates apply and Kendra rose to the top. uh her strong experience in early childhood and early literacy, special education, just all children. She just has such a great uh background when it comes to taking care of our youngest students. And so she is here today. Kendra, would you like to say anything? I'm just honored to um move into that role and I am excited for the next steps for our youngest learners. >> Thank you. Congratulations. >> CONGRATULATIONS. [applause] >> And will you introduce your guest for >> Yes. Um this

006is my daughter McKenna. She will be a senior at the high school. So that's exciting. And then um Everett will be a seventh grader at the middle school. And this is my husband, Matt. [laughter] >> You're just here. [laughter] Well, we appreciate you all for coming. We know uh being an administrator is a family like full family affair [clears throat] and so we're so grateful to have all of you here supporting um your mom and wife. So, thank you so much. Next on the docket are travel requests. >> I did have one question on the travel request. I know we had a couple of items that had popped up previously that were approved kind of ad hoc through the month. Did those need to be captured formally on the travel approval in this document? >>

007These travel requests are for a professional down below. Are you talking about the field trip travel? >> The field trip and the and then the golf team. I just wanted to make sure those were captured somewhere. >> Those are down in action item number seven. >> Oh, okay. >> Definitely. Yep. You're great for asking about that. We will definitely get those approved officially. >> Okay. Well, hearing that, then I'm I will make a motion to approve the travel request for the professional development piece. >> Uh I have one question for Dr. Estus. Is we get these travel requests in between meetings, >> right? >> Is there a way that we could formally approve them in between that? That seems like a not an easy task, but maybe we should look at it. >> Are you

008talking about for staff or for students? >> Either way, >> yeah, >> for staff, I could sometimes those [clears throat] things do pop up. Uh we always try to let you know when that's coming. Uh for field trips, we're going to put a process together to make sure that that gets approved before before we trip. I understand like for athletic trips, you know, they win a sectional or regional or whatever and it's only a week to the next event. So, >> but I will second the motion. >> Thank you. All those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed say sign. Motion carries. Great. Thank you. We're moving on to uh some celebrations. Um, and we're going to start with um we have some bilingual proficiency awards. Um, I believe it's the first time

009this this has ever happened. And so I'm going to turn it over to Mr. Cleaner. >> Thank you. You guys tell me. I just wanted to thank everyone here for giving us the opportunity to recognize seven of our nine students who accomplished something pretty remarkable, I have to say. Uh, for the first time in this high school's history, uh, we had nine students who achieved a certificate of multilingual proficiency. It's an extremely rigorous uh feat to accomplish and that you have to take uh a standardized exam by the state of Indiana as well establish uh proficiency in English via the regular high school curriculum. But what's remarkable about these students is that they went above and beyond the benchmarks as was required by the state of Indiana. Uh the majority of them all received what's

010called an advanced one or an A1 on the Apple exam. And it's kind of hard to put that into terms what that what that truly means. But if I were to drop any one of these individuals off into any Spanish speaking community, they would thrive almost as if they were natives at the end of the day. Uh it's extremely incredible, not just what they earned through the eyes of the state, but their own individual ability to communicate in Spanish. And so I just felt like it was appropriate that we gave them an opportunity to acknowledge them for this incredible uh accomplishment. So, if you wouldn't mind, I have some certificates that will I know if I you'd like to, it would be an honor if you could distribute. So, we have our first individual here,

011John Moody, if you can come up. Uh, next we have Tyler Hoff. We have Matthew Shan. Jaden Bosler, Sam Richardson, Grace, Walter, and Valentina. So, at any rate, so if I just have everyone give us a round of applause. I appreciate you very much. And then we also have Laura Garcia Garcia and Ava South who couldn't be with us because of prior engagement. So once again, thank you everyone in the school board for giving us opportunity to acknowledge their accomplishments. So with that, we do have finals to get back to. So we do have [laughter] to >> amazing. Next on our agenda, we do have a um presentation of a grant um today. And so I'm going to turn it over to Ann Wilson. >> Actually, I'm gonna turn this over to Justiny from the

012Indiana Association of Public Education Foundations. And Justin, you'll explain a little bit more about why we're here. >> Well, this is a big check, but I [laughter] think a smaller real check has already been sent. So, I'm here uh happily representing the Indiana Association of Education Foundations. We had a competitive grant round uh where this foundation was selected received $2,500 for their food insecurity work. I'll let folks next to me introduce themselves as well because they're the ones that are helping fund this grant through the statewide association. >> Nick Shinger, vice president of construction, >> Mike Ship, project manager. So without their support, these dollars wouldn't be available. only five uh other foundations in the state of Indiana are receiving a grant of this kind. So kudos to him and your team for applying and

013for winning this. Do you want to maybe tell us how those dollars will be used? >> Yeah, I would like to say um Lisa Tubes, who's the wellness coordinator for the school corporation couldn't be here today, but Lisa was instrumental in helping me write the grant application. And you might remember that we funded the new student success center downstairs with high school students that would um address academic wellness but then also mental health wellness. And because that's been in place, we've noticed that more and more food insecurity issues are coming to light because the students feel more comfortable going here. And so this funding will help us supply water, snacks, and things like that for students who are having anxiety issues. And that way they can come and have food, not having to worry about

014um feeling hungry when they're stressed. So we'll be providing funding for that. >> Great. Thank you very much. >> [laughter] >> Dr. Could you update the the >> Thank you. I was so engaged in everyone moving. >> Wonderful. Um at this time, next on our agenda, we have uh a report for our board. Um the board was asking, "How is the dual language immersion program going?" And so at this time I'm gonna turn um over to Dr. Jackie Herbert. We're gonna present from up here so that we can see the entire audience. Um but thank you for the opportunity to share information about the dual language immersion program. And um first of all I would like to just um recognize the instructors, the teachers of the dual language immersion program this morning. Actually this afternoon

015we have Wheelie Young here. She teaches the kindergarten. Um Sherry Msh is grade one. Meow Shang Lynn teaches our second grade team. Nina knee who is here with us today teaches third grade. Sharon Chia teaches grades four and five. And then six through nine is Emily D. So um today this is just kind of a snapshot. We wanted to give you a little bit of information over lots of topics about the program. So this is our agenda for today. Um, first of all, the dual language immersion program began in the 201620 2017 school year. So, we currently have cohorts in all of the buildings. The first group that came in as kindergarteners are now in the ninth grade here. So, each year we added a grade level to the program. Um, we are the only

016corporation in the state of Indiana that has a a public school that has a Mandarin dual language immersion program. So, this is just a snapshot of our enrollment. um for each of the grade levels and I'm going to share with you kind of the boring stuff. I'm excited for that to pass the baton to them as they share um more information. From the very beginning, these were the goals of the program. We wanted to develop high levels of proficiency in reading and writing and both English and Mandarin. And um in all grade levels, there are state um assessments, local and state assessments that we have to continue to to give to all of our students. We want to make sure we have um high levels of proficiencies in all of those areas. We want to

017achieve high level of um and we want to meet or exceed those state requirements, but also we want to give the students an opportunity to understand and learn about other cultural experiences. So, um that's one of the other goals of providing a dual language immersion program here at Batesville. So, with that, I'm going to pass it to Whe. All right. Yes. Well, thanks. um um the re research behind our DLI program and I there is so much going on with the research and I just I wanted to share all of them but you know and I ended up with these four points. Um these are I think really important. Um the first one is their academic achievement students meet or exceed their peers in reading and math which is approved which was like it's indicated

018in our data. We'll share the data in a little bit. Um also it start we start the we start at the early age to teach them a second language. In this way the kids can learn a in learn a second language in the more authentic way like I started learning English when I was in middle school and that didn't turn out really easy for me. A lot of access to going on um bilingualism and bad literacy. This is a very it's kind of like the the main piece of why we have this program here. We want our children to be not only a fluent in English but also in Mandaring Chinese eventually. And so um and re research does tells us that um the more language the more literacy even with children who might be

019a little struggle at the beginning with English or manding um eventually they will you know they keep working on it they will um get enough literacy and um cognitive development they have they develop more like um stronger problem solving skills later on and they have um they're working memory gets strengthened and long-term and career readiness. This is our kind of tied to our final goal ready that they um have more opportunities when they move to college choices and they have more choices when they move to the workforce. Um they have um build more like cross-cultural understanding and build an inclusive community. So that's the research and this is the curriculum that we're using right now. It is really important that we have a really good curriculum. Um reading and math we use the same curriculums

020with the our group level. For example, reading we use CKLA amplify and math is envision that we use from K25. Um and then mentoring literacy we use mentoring matrix is a very helpful um resource help our students in third grade students also learn um science and project the way and social studies and for grades four to nine we have mening literacy with the mening teacher. So um just a little bit about the transition once the students like Batesville Intermediate School from Batesville Middle School and Batesville High School they continue um of foundations or Mandarin literacy um through this year the students were able to begin Chinese 1, Chinese 1, Chinese 2, and Chinese 3 are actually offered to the students for high school credit. So, the students who are currently at Batesville High School as

021freshman, they will have completed their three credits of Mandarin, their three foreign language credits as a freshman. So, one advantage of being in the program, they have they've completed their three high school credits, so they have more opportunity for other electives in their schedule. Um, based on experience, based on the um assessment, which I'll talk a little bit about later, we actually um met with Mr. Strauss at the middle school the um Emily do the mandarin teacher and I and doc and Mr. Strauss met because um Emily felt that the students needed one additional year of just building that Mandarin literacy before we begin Chinese 1. So for next school year we will not start mandar or Chinese 1 until 8th grade but the students will have still have opportunity to take Chinese 1, Chinese

0222, Chinese 3 and complete those requirements by the time they're a sophomore. So, um we are continually um gathering information, experience, assessments, and we're making adjustments to the program to best meet the needs of the students as well as um teachers. >> Yeah. And we have a couple spotlights from our VPS um students. Um there's like really short videos. So that was a kindergarten student. Is that correct? >> Yes, that was she's in my class and that was like before Christmas. So what she was saying is there are four apples. Um and we ate three apples. There's one left. You can hear the word left. Um, so we do a lot of problem posing in our class like I give them a short number sentence like 3 + 1 equals four and then they tell

023me a story in mandaring and there's a lot of trans languaging happening because they don't have that language foundation yet to complete the the whole story. So they speak mandaring as much as they can and then they put some English words here and there. This is really cute. >> Um, the second video was shared with us by Sher Mur. She teaches first grade and this is a STEM project that she did with her first grade students. Hey doll. >> Um, hi everyone. I'm Nina and I joined um Batesville schools back in 2022. Yes, four years. So um came with 10 years of DLI teaching. So I've been teaching dual language immersion for my whole life. uh so started with uh four years in China teaching Chinese kids in English different subject and I'm doing the

024same thing just with my own language um so I would talk about a little bit more about our uh curriculum mandrix is the men u curriculum that we're using from K to five uh this is like a big leveled reading library along is uh interactive resources online. So students currently have access to uh the online piece. They can listen uh and answer understanding questions, practice vocabulary, writing, tracing, selfcorrection. So the bottom is kind of like their brief um report uh waiting for teacher approval. So we can also listen and look their motion in action and then change the uh score. And then also uh of course learning Chinese is like learning English as their first language. So they start with um short stories or theme based big books big picture little words and then when

025they go to third grade then they're transitioning from learning to read stage to reading to learn. So we also get them ready for uh reading skills and strategy just like what they learn in English like we introduce uh story elements uh sequence of events cause and effect they see this in more than one place. So they they see it in these um subject and also in their English learning. Kind of like the research said, the more language, the more literacy. Um fluency wise, we kind of built their sentence structure really strong and then expanded in with with uh building paragraphs and then finally they can create their own uh full-blown [clears throat] passage. And then this is just some of the the examples of what we use in classroom. And then vocabulary is the same.

026We try to make things interconnected so they they don't only see this thing in Chinese or only see that in English. So we want them to make connections and feel conf confident in learning both languages. Um so moving on to fourth and fifth grade. uh the junger expand um more likeformational article, newspaper article, history so they can use it in different um occasions like um during Chinese New Year time they put on the play drama or recite poems or sing along with m music also they use their stem um knowledge to build their project as we go. So good to see that happening. Um high school we focus on more real life experience. So um those materials are some that they're using. Some are books, textbooks that we purchased, summer online. So, um, they focus

027on like roleplaying in a work situation. How would you like introduce each other or if you're at a job job interview, what would you um include in your speaking? So, it's more like real world experience and also they do cooking um when there's occasion. So um it's beyond I think it's beyond the classroom. Um, so here's >> all right. >> Here's the data. >> Data. I'm gonna give that to you so I don't. [laughter] >> Um, so this is the things that makes me really excited about. So on the top of the slide, you can see that's our grid level data. Beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year. And here, this is our DLI class data. This column shows us the beginning of the year. You can tell 25%

028of students were well below the benchmark. Um and then end of the year is 8%. Um above benchmark 29% at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year we have 46% of students were above the benchmark. So this data actually really supports what I've been reading about dual language education like more language [clears throat] more literacy and the students actually they exceed their um grade level expectations and the next slide says what first grade data looks like again the same pattern beginning of the year end of the year and see that data 74% of students were well above so that was very very exciting and this second grade again and the year is very high. Yeah. >> Okay. As I mentioned earlier, um we have we continue to assess the program

029and about four years ago we adopted the Apple assessment and Apple stands for the assessment of performance or proficiency in languages and it actually follows the ACTOLE which stands for the American Council of Teaching of Foreign Languages. So this is an actually a national test and Jud alluded to the presentations that he did earlier. They actually use the Apple assessment for the Spanish proficiency. So it's a it's a nationally standardized test. So we um have assessed various grade levels over the years and based on the assessment results that's um how we make decisions about what the kindergarten classroom might look like or decisions about transition of when do we start Chinese 1. Um this year we have adopted only assessing students in grade three, five and eight. When we first first started the assessment we

030we assessed all students in grades three through whichever was the highest of the grade levels. Um we the assessment is not available in soul third grade. We wanted some sort of measure to see what kind of success we have um with the students in the program. Um this year we opted to assess only grades three, five and eight. They take the assessment in February. results have been shared with the teachers so they can see a student who may need a little work. Um grades five and eight assess in four areas and it's four common areas for any language that is assessed. It's interpersonal listening, speaking, reading, um writing and listening. So the teachers can see the areas of strength or weakness with their students so they can make adjustments with their curriculum. So we will

031look at the data again as we as they plan for instruction for next year. >> Um one of the goals is um for this program is offer kids um different culture experience. So um we have a lot of things going on but we worked hard to narrow down the two uh slides which is hard. So um two years ago we made connection with a great Cincinnati youth group and they're now called Asianati. So they come to us every spring. Last year they um celebrated dragon boat festival and this year they join us with celebrating Chinese New Year. And then also we my first year here uh we did a whole community event at BPS. Um that was great memory. And then uh also we we do a lot in our schools in our classrooms. Um

032a lot of are happening around late January early February. Uh that's when Chinese New Year comes around. So each building um does their different things like uh primary school invite parents to do bulletin boards presentation um first grade does the same thing with stations second grade uh just similarly and then third grade through middle school every year we're on the news uh we do a big parade um in both buildings and just give the kids chances to celebrate in real action. Uh they get the firsthand information from their teachers. How is things how are things different across the other side of the world? And we are going to end this presentation with a high school uh student video talking about um what they're doing in high school and what their vision is. We get closer

033with other students and the teachers are very supportive when we are working together and they always help us understand and also it brings all of us together into a community. What did me in high school is that I get to use them for my high school credit and for my sophomore and senior years of school. I get to take part of courses and if I ever want to pursue a career in Chinese, I get to take college options and career options that can help you understand and follow up on Chinese. My favorite memory is the hurry that we did in middle school because I really understand it. I also remember every year because I get to experience some opportunities. So one of the major things that our careers are encourage us to speak to our

034other share about the culture in China is they give us creative assignments just really helps. >> Any questions? >> Jackie, can you uh send the board a copy of this presentation? >> Thank you. >> So, Jackie, is that right then that like so next year would be like that first group of students would essentially be exiting them >> well >> the program? No, actually we um beyond for the for the current freshman we did offer um Chinese 4. >> Oh. >> Um it's just that there were no students interested in taking it. So we did expand. We had a conversation. We met with Eric at the high school. Yes. Um they were offered Chinese 4, but for next school year, there were no students who opted to choose Chinese for because now they want to

035explore the other electives that they have available to them. And we have had conversations with um this is for in the guidance office to look at dual lang or um dual credit options moving forward. So we have plan we have time to plan for it because the highest next year will be Chinese um three but the eighth graders will be moving to the high school as freshman teaching Chinese 3. Okay. >> So we have the capacity to inhouse teach Chinese 4 beyond Chinese 4. If we have students who want to pursue that then we'll have we'll have a conversation about dual credit. Got it. But the one, two, and three would meet the requirement for like academic honors that then they can or if they want to do two years and move to something else

036for two years. Okay. >> But we did want to provide the opportunity for students who wanted to pursue um the language. >> That's also Yes. >> So for the younger students that are working their way up through, is Chinese 3 going to be the cap or there students that want to pursue higher levels of that past the ninth grade? Are they going to be given that opportunity for DPS? >> Yes. I mean, I can't speak if they're in DPS what the high school opportunities are >> as the organization. >> Sure. Yes. I mean, as I as I mentioned to Mr. Raver, we ha Chinese 4 was offered for the current freshmen. It's just that there were no students that wanted to take it for next school year. Right. >> So, we we have the capacity

037to continue offering those. That's >> my question. I have kids in it, friends. That's a concern of ours. We want to make sure Because as parents we our kids but hopefully that some would pursue that further. >> Yeah, >> any other questions? >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you for having us today. >> Great to hear an update on the program. Thank you so much for your time. Anyone who's in the audience, you're welcome to stay, but if you need to get on with your day, please feel free to do so. We know it is the last week of school. >> Thank you so much. >> You know how to empty the house. [laughter] Okay, next on our agenda, we have our financial report. I'm gonna turn it over to >> Don't take it

038personal, Tim. >> Yeah, [laughter] >> this may not be quite as exciting as the last presentation, but it's important. helps [laughter] us be able to do all of that wonderful programming. >> Yes, we'll um go through this relatively quickly. Um this was included in the board packet as well. Um so going through the the four tax supported funds. You can see that our education fund started with an a beginning balance for the month of April of around $1.8 million with both revenue and expenses of around $1.5 million. We actually spent almost $28,000 more um than than we received. So that balance dropped to 1,765,51 at the end of the month. That uh represents 9.6% of the full year appropriation. So um comfortably um above the 8% threshold that the board has set over the years.

039Um that balance typically um going into the next few months will begin to climb a little bit over the summertime, especially with um our payroll for um some of our hourly nine-month employees that that don't get paid all through the summer. So teachers get paid through the summer. Um there's pretty smooth cash flow for paying out teachers. Um but but we have a lighter payroll um through the summer. So, that balance should climb a little bit. The debt service fund, you can see we had about $20,000 roughly of revenue, no expenses there. Um, our big um first half debt payments will be coming up. So, that balance um is a little over $850,000. The operations fund, which was a little under $2.8 8 million to start the month, had about $100,000 of revenue and almost

040a half a million dollar in expenses, which is pretty typical. So that balance dropped by about $400,000 to $2,378,082. And then we had no activity um in the rainy day fund. So, our overall cash balance at the end of April was5, $9,229 across those four funds. That's about $10,000 less than we were at the end of April last year. Um, and just as a reminder, a lot of times, um, and actually Mr. Na'vi and I spoke this morning. Um, a lot of times we will have received um our first half property tax draws usually from Franklin County gets it a little bit quicker, but a lot of times we'll see that before um the end of May. We definitely will receive it before the end of June from both counties. So the this um April

04130th cash balance has typically been kind of the low water mark um for the year. So, we're we're still over $5 million and I would expect that um possibly May if we get property tax draws from either county and then definitely going into June. June and July tend to be our our highest cash balance months of the year. Any questions related to those funds or we can go on to construction expenditures. Um you can see on the uh screen out of our 2025 first mortgage bonds um during the month of April we we paid out about $48,000 um for some projects. Most of that work was done over spring break that got build and and paid last month. Um the biggest items that were um some concrete work both to driveways um sidewalk repairs um

042and out underneath the grandstand um floor under the under the grandstand um at the football field. Um along with we um finished up the shade structure out outside on the patio um of the success center over here on the other side of the building. um and a a few um little flooring projects and some minor painting projects, but roughly $50,000 in um construction projects. And you can see the the cash balance in both of those um funds. 4,956,000 and change from the 2025 bonds and $897,000 in change from the 2024 general application bonds. Any questions related to that? >> Thank you, >> Mr. Yes. Do we have any large amounts of debt coming off the books this year or next year? >> We do not um this year, I don't believe. I can I can

043look that up. Um I have my computer here so I can I can get that for you before um before >> just maybe send me the document. >> Okay, I will do that. >> Thank you. >> I think we're good on patron comments. We'll skip right over [laughter] that. She cleared the house out. There was nobody to talk to. >> Grant's back there in the corner. You can see >> he he likes being in the corner. [laughter] >> Great. Thank you. Next on the agenda are some action items. And so we have approval of the updated meal prices uh for the next school year. Does anyone have any questions about the meal pricing? >> No. Looks like it's going about 10 cents of >> Can I seek an approval? >> Motion. >> I'll make a

044motion to approve. >> Thank you, Larry. >> Meal prices. >> I'll second. >> Thank you, Jeremy. All those in favor say I. I. >> I. All those opposed, same side. Motion carries. >> Great. Thank you. And then the next item we have the approval of food service vendors uh for the 2627 school year. >> Any questions? Tim, are these kind of this the standard ones we've used in the past? >> So, yes, this um this cooperative, the K12 leading Indiana cooperative um puts out the bids for the various um dairy breads. there are like seven or eight different bid categories there um that they um administer all of the bidding um work to be compliant with the state of Indiana and the school the federal school lunch program. Um so we benefit um considerably from

045from this group. Um it Mrs. Verna Meyer um who is our food service director um gets a lot of resources from this cooperative but it's so it's the same cooperative we've been with for at least five or six years and some of the vendors that on the bid list may change from year to year but usually it's a multi-year um bid. So some some of the um different lines might be in their second or third year of of the bid. Can I seek a motion to approve the food service vendors? >> I'll make a motion to approve the food service. >> Thank you, Jeremy. >> I'll second it. >> Thank you, Larry. All those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed, same sign. Motion carries. Wonderful. Thank you. We'll move on to the

046overnight field trip request. Um, and the board was uh well aware that our boys uh golf team qualified for this tourney and gave approval. So today we're just asking for official approval uh for that May one and two uh trip that the boys took. >> I'll make the motion to approve the >> overnight cost trip. >> Thank [clears throat] you Larry. >> Second. >> Thank you Jeremy. All those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed same sign. Motion carries. >> Thank you much. Um in my board update last week I did mention that we had this FFA trip that happened May 1st and 2nd. Um and so obviously uh that that has already taken place. Uh but we're asking for your official approval today. This too was uh one of the those situations

047where the um members qualified. Um so it it was after the last board meeting. Um and so that's why we're asking for the approval today. >> Can I take a motion to approve? >> Yes, I'll make that motion to approve the FFA field trip. Thank you, Larry. Do I have a second? >> I'll second. >> Thank you, Jeremy. All those in favor say I. I. All those opposed, same sign. Motion carries. >> Thank you. Finally, uh we have an upcoming trip. Uh the boys basketball team um is asking to go to Indiana Wesleyan University on June 12th through the 14th. >> Does anyone have any questions about that? >> No, I think I mean obviously we'll do the due diligence ahead of time with chaperrons and number of people and all that. So, yeah, as

048long as we're following that standard process, I'll make a motion to approve. >> Thank you, Jeremy. >> I'll second that motion. >> Thank you, Larry. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> All those opposed, same sign. Motion carries. Thank you. Um, on my superintendent report for today, um, in your backup materials, you have a copy of the proposed 2728 school calendar. Um, and just of note, I want to to say some things. We're just doing a first look today. Uh we won't vote until uh the June board meeting. Um this calendar contains two less PD days, which causes us to be able to have two additional student days. Um we feel like we'll be at a point with Bulldog ready that um two less PD days will be appropriate uh for our staff

049in the 2728 school year. Uh you might notice that um Good Friday is a an off day rather than a makeup day on this calendar and uh Mr. Stone did some work for us um so that we could align our spring break with IvyTech so that it would really make sense for the high number of students who we have um working to you know live in both of those schedules and so we appreciate that. And so today we're just taking our first look but if you have any questions please let me know. on the PD days. Dr. Eristus, where is the training held and how many teachers involved and who does the training? >> Great questions. We can give you sort of like our plans for the next school year. Really, all staff are involved.

050Uh, you know, we want to make good use of our time on those days. Um, and so there's typically a majority plan for teachers. And then we have lots of other plans that fill in the gaps for the rest of our staff. So, okay, mostly held on site. Uh, but we could we'll make sure the board understands the plan for those for the next school year. Of course, plans are already in place for those. >> Thank you. >> Great question. >> And then the other thing um that I just want to note this week, if you can see down in the gym, plans are in place. We are all ready for graduation. That's happening this Saturday at 11:00. Um so the class of 1976 will be here um uh kind of celebrating their um graduation

051and uh we'll be really celebrating the class of 2026 and so it's it's going to be a great great morning. So that is all we have for my comments. Any school board comments today? I just want to pass out. I have a few copies of the new library uh innovation and arts hub open house. I had the opportunity to this doesn't have a lot of information. This is just the library news and I have give one to Jackie and our Dr. has already got it tied to this. >> Yes. Thank you. >> Well, I want to do one that uh I had the opportunity to go through the uh center since I'm a member of the friends of library and the opportunities for our community and especially for students. They're gonna have 3D printer. They're

052gonna have this thing called cricket that I don't know hardly anything about it. >> Crickets are amazing, Larry. [laughter] >> The only thing I know about crickets, you use them for fishing. So, uh, and they're going to have a engraving machine. They're going to have a studio for music and also one for doing podcast. So the opportunity, those are just the highlights that I picked up. They also have a very large meeting room that can seat up to 200 people. So that could be used for training and whatever. So the facility is you need to go through it to really understand all of it. >> And the open house is tomorrow afternoon. >> Oh, it is? >> Yes. So, >> the rest of us get to go see it tomorrow. So, we're very excited to

053just get to see it in action. I know the plans have been happening for quite some time now. So, we're excited to see it finally opening and uh ready for the community. So, thank you, Larry. So they will have training for uh ages 12 can be trained but they have to be with a 18y old to do the uh the various crafts or whatever. And uh if you're 15 years and older, once you get you have to go through the certification and then you can do the uh whatever you change. >> That's great. >> So it's I'm excited about it. >> Me too. >> Nothing for me.
