To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Good evening everyone. We'll go ahead and get started with our spot please. >> Uh good evening. Before I get started, a few people I'd like to thank. Uh, first like to thank uh Scott Miller and the staff at Weston for letting us trade places in the lineup. Um, we would like to also I'd like to also thank uh the hard work of Mr. Hudson and Brady Connect. He did a great job with what we're going to show you tonight. Um, what we would like to highlight is GIS itself. So, with the closing of our building, we thought it'd be a great opportunity to highlight all of the
fantastic um educators and some of the students that have passed through the hallways. So, we've prepared something very special for you tonight. Um so, without further ado, I will have you turn your attention to screen. We get the lights. Let's go. What? Yes. Heat. Heat. Careful. I didn't that wasn't on THERE WHEN I JUST LIKE A MARVEL MOVIE. >> UH, IT was like a Marvel movie. Yeah. So, um, thank you very much for the opportunity to present. It's it's been an honor to be the principal the past three years and and I appreciate this sub. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Thank you. It's certainly fun to see the chapters that that building has had, the number of grade levels that it has served, and obviously uh even as early as next year, we'll have
a few classrooms in there during some some renovation. Then part of that next chapter, it'll be an extension of Harris, but certainly grateful for the GIS staff and the memories that have taken place there. >> Move along. Do we have any public comments this evening? >> Nobody has to speak this evening. We'll move right along to routine matters. Can I get a motion to approve the regular meeting of April 13, 2026, the executive session April 13, 2026, and special session of April the 27th, 2026? >> I move that we approve the minutes of the mentioned. >> I second. I'll second. All >> in favor say I. >> All same. On to claims, Mr. Day. >> Yes. Included in this uh packet is the regular payroll claims um and a uh construction claim for the test
court project. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have. Otherwise, I ask the board approves the claim docket as presented. >> Yeah. No questions, comments. Can I get a motion to approve the claim docket as presented? >> I move we approve the claim documents as presented. >> Second. >> All in favor say I. >> Say on to financial matters. >> Uh yes. Included in the packet are the financial reports of nearly final April receipts and expenditures for the operation educations fund. Um education fund continues to perform as expected. Um as typical the operations fund continues to be concern you know looking for those efficiencies continuously. Um I did have the opportunity to sit through a couple of very interesting utility savings energy savings um sessions at the Asbo annual conference last week. Um, and
so there's some there's some ideas that I would like to take away from that and bring to you in a future date to talk about. Um, just want to let you know that we have submitted a notice to the department of local government finance that we are going to exercise some flexibility to spread out the homestead credits from SEA1. Instead of all those happening to fall in the operations fund for this year, we're going to be able to share that between debt service and operation. Our debt service is a little bit healthier. It'll buy us a year to kind of adapt to the new reality that we're facing. Um don't know exactly what that's going to look like. They are supposed to generate a report for the for us here in the next month, month
and a half that kind of details how we do that. We just had to tell them by May 15th in order to preserve that flexibility for the for us. Um I will update you on that process uh as as we get more information from them. Um, you know, finally, we we continue to move forward with with the plans we have to to weather this storm and and continue to do, you know, our main mission as best as we can. U, we are we are set up in a way that we are going to be able to to weather the the pit to our education fund. Um, and then we're just going to have to work to make the operations fund fit into that reality, too. Um, feel good about where we're going overall. Um, we're
just going to have some work in front of us. Happy to answer any questions you have. Otherwise, this piece isformational only. >> You might don't have any questions or comments. We'll move on to construction and programming board. >> A number of different people that are going to add to this and we're actually going to start with Dr. Kerry. >> First program on the agenda. It's just a recap of our ambassador program. Dr. Olen and I wrapped up the first year of the program a few weeks ago in mid April. It was probably better than we could have hoped, I think, when we think about the journey and where that idea came from and all the work that was put into it. So, received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants and we've already started recruiting for
our next class working with Mary Beth Vaughn to get an article out soon about all the great things going on. And so, we're just excited to to share that with you. And community outreach has been something we've really tried to focus on over the last few years and we think this is a big step in the right direction. So happy to answer any questions but just wanted that for your information tonight. >> Next time is Dr. Marine. >> Yep. >> Uh good evening. So last month uh Mr. Curtis and his team uh held anformational session uh for the incoming fifth and sixth grade families that are coming into Maxwell intermediate school next year. So uh just want to commend his team on the the night. We had a we had good attendance for that night.
He shared some information uh about what MIS might look like next year and then they had parents had an opportunity to ask some questions. So uh it was a good night. We uh shared a lot of information and gathered some input as well. So uh just for your information. >> Dr. K, you going to take the summer programming? >> Yeah, we've got a lot of opportunities for our staff and our students this summer. Uh many of these items you see listed are not new for Greenfield Central. And so you'll see a heavy focus in the elementary world. Something we've seen from the state where they've really shifted a lot of that funding from more high school credit recovery courses to more reading intervention at the lower level. So see a lot in there about reading
and camp invention which has been something that I know my kids have gone through over the years. Uh we do also have opportunities for our high school students like we have in the past for credit recovery as well as some of those options that are required for graduation. Uh we will be again we talked about this last year shrinking a little bit of the summer PE offering and that's again just the nature of the new diploma and the pathways and and the different seals. So uh we will offer that but again it'll be much smaller than we have in the past. Also have a few opportunities there for some new staff that Dr. Breen and I'll work through with them. So again, I know people think the summertime is quiet and there's not a lot
going on and I think our our staff would beg to differ. So I just wanted you to have that in front of you and we're happy to answer any questions. >> Back to Dr. Marine on I read. >> So today actually opened up the summer testing window for students who did not pass I read in spring. So we're testing currently uh all of our second grade on track students and all of our third grade students who didn't pass. uh our third grade students will get another opportunity um whether or not they attend summer school that's coming up in June. So uh if they attend summer school which most of them are they'll get the opportunity again their third opportunity and then our second grade at risk students who are uh attending summer school they'll get
their second opportunity to test. So we're trying to get as many as we can to pass that test uh especially in second grade so that we can uh focus our efforts on them next year in third grade. Um that window opened up today and that window opens I'm sorry um extends through about the middle of June end of June. So we'll test as test test as many as we get. Those results are in bar road still but I can tell you that we're tracking very similar to how we have in the previous two years with both second and third grade students. Last thing we had is some information on the WEDA access results. I think uh Sansini. >> Sure. >> So I can give you an overview. The WEDA assessment is something that we give
all of our multilingual learners in the month of February. It tests four different domains. So reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We had 149 students that completed that assessment. And in your packet, you can see the different levels. Over 50% of our students scored in levels one, two, and three. So those are the lower English proficiency levels. And then we had students um also perform in levels four, five, and six. Five and six are an automatic exit. So if you score a five or higher um and then there's also alternative criteria that I alluded to in my report um where if we have um support from the team in each building, then we can also exit students in the four um range. So that is a little bit of an overview of that assessment. Um, we
did note that our highest domains were listening and comprehension and then our students scored lower in speaking and writing. I know last year you asked for an update of the languages that were most spoken by our multilingual learners. So, I thought I would give you that update. um of our ML students, 45 approximately 45% speak Spanish, 25% Haitian Creole. Um approximately 5% Creole and then Vietnamese is at 3%, Mandarin is at 3%, Portuguese is at 3% and then I miss uh Punjabi is at four a little over 4%. So that just gives you a little bit of a snapshot of our multilingual um students. >> Just kind of an overview. You see over the last few years our numbers continue to grow a little bit but we continue to provide those services through through Dawn
and her staff. We have three teachers working among our eight buildings to meet those needs. The good news is we are continuing to grow students toward uh English proficiency. The last item we have in that instruction report if there are no other questions about that would be the health ed pros and I believe uh the SLA. >> Yes. Um, I always like to bring you these updates at the end of the year, how our programming went on some different areas. So, these are the folks that come into our schools and talk about um bodies and puberty and the human growth and development. And those are attached to that report are the surveys of staff on how they felt the programming went for their students and it was extremely positive. So, we will continue to use
that program um moving forward. That's all we had in the instruction report. >> All right, no questions, comments. We'll move right on to uh your construction up project updates. >> Construction project update. The first of those two links. Just gave you a little bit of an update with the the tennis court project we have going on west of the high school. Good news is uh as you drive by on Franklin Street, you would notice that we do have those sealed. Uh the color is there. We still need to do some some striping there. We have some a number of other items that I've listed there that we need to wrap up to to truly make that punch list go away and then we can start using that. That window to use that for our spring
season is going to end here in the next two weeks. Uh very unlikely we'll be able to use those for competition this spring, but we will continue to to work with the construction team there to to push that through as quickly as we can. And I'm happy to take any questions that you have about the report. >> I don't think we did. Does anybody else? >> No. Just disappointing a little bit. >> Yeah, we obviously got off to a great start last fall and just were not able to push that over to the finish line. >> The second item I have for you under construction would be the construction bid recommendation that has come in. You can see that uh we do have Jake Samberg in the back there from from Skilman who's put these
materials together for us. He and the rest of the Skilman team. You can see how the bids came in for each of those bid packages 1 through five. Uh the punch to that is that uh the bids did come in lower than anticipated. words we don't get to say very often, but I again attribute that to the work of of Skilman working with Lancer and Associates to to have uh a lot of lot of interest in that. But if you have no questions for Mr. Day or me, we would recommend that you accept those bids as presented. >> Yeah. Can we get a motion to approve the construction bids as presented by Skilman Corporation? >> I move that we approve the construction bids as presented. >> Second. All in favor say I. >> Post same.
>> Right along to business information, student handbook. >> Second reading. >> You had all this information last month and I understand this is a couple hundred pages worth of of student handbooks because this addresses everything from our uh child care all the way through high school. Uh no changes were recommended. So we have not made any changes since last month. presentation. If you don't have any questions, I would recommend approval. >> We don't have any comments, questions on it. Can we go ahead and get a motion to approve the handbook >> changes as we get a second? >> I'll second. >> All in favor say I. >> All post same. >> Thank you on to board public. >> Yep. Board policy updates. First reading. This is our typical cycle right after the legislative session ends
and our legal team has an opportunity to think about how that applies to board policies. We have about a dozen I'll present to you over the next few months. These are the first four that would include A200 on firearms, weapons, and destructive devices. We do have the the additions there with red letters that would show what has changed, but the only thing that would be different there will be language about imitation firearms. It also includes A275 on school wellness which uh references some training we need to do as well as um language about having drinking water available which we do have in all of our cafeterias. A300 responsible use of technology and internet and use policy. This does implement a couple of those Indiana code changes that are are recent. And then the last one,
probably the one of most interest to you would be A301, the wireless communication device policy. For those of you who went to the ISBA event with me, that's what they're calling the bellto bell, no cell. Uh, according to the law, we have to approve one of two policies. One is just a complete ban of wireless devices at school. The other one, I will tell you, I believe well over 90% of the schools are adopting would be it allows students to have them, but they have to be turned off, stored away from them during the school day. This incorporates language that is very similar to what ISBA put out. This is obviously has the twist on it from church to church hill Nantrum. I'm happy to take any questions you have about that or make any
tweaks to that you would like to see. >> I think I would like to see that the children still have their kids have their phones on them at all time. If we need if we have to do this and I'd rather have the kids have their phones on them at all time. That's what I'd like to see. You know, >> unfortunately, the state doesn't give that as an option. >> I know they don't, but >> so I don't agree with the state on this one. >> I think the lesser of the two policies. >> Well, you said in a backpack or something that it has to be turned off, not on their person. Uh, and we would be of that impression that a backpack would be sufficient. >> So, you could still have a situation
where like in Mr. Nickel's room there where they've got the uh pockets on the wall and the kids can put the phones in there. >> True. >> You technically could be >> you can still use that as >> long as they're powered off and put away, >> right? The other question I have with that and I only do that because of my watch. I can use my watch to access some of my phone stuff. Is that something? >> This is actually listed in there. It includes smart watches that would be linked to that wireless device. >> Gotcha. All right. You could have other smart you could have a a smart watch so to speak. It just can't be linked to a wireless device. >> Yeah, this is certainly one that has has been in the
news quite a bit and it's one of those things where to be in compliance it's one or the other here. >> We do have a Paris square post that's going to go out tomorrow evening information because this is a change. So >> this is a first reading. I said we're we're certainly willing to to make some adjustments to that if you would like us to do that. We do need to have something in place prior to the start of the school year and obviously sooner is better so we can get families prepared for that. >> Anything else? >> If no other questions about that that it is for information purposes only this month. >> All right. Thank you. >> All right. On to title one resolution. This is one that we have to do on
an annual basis. And I will actually put you uh draw your attention to page two of that where we've highlighted for us, Title One brings in a little bit over $460,000. For us, uh we do utilize that to pay a large portion of the salaries for eight staff members who work primarily in our K6 environment to support students with reading. Obviously, it has been a tool we have used for many years in Greenfield Central. I would say that support that our title one staff provides has helped us have much of the successes that we've had with uh early literacy. I would without recommend without the reservation ask that uh you go ahead and uh and approve that. It is a large fund for us to oversee. I would ask that you allow us to continue
to utilize Joe Ris to oversee that uh to guide staff take care of a lot of the paperwork side that is a requirement everybody everything from eligibility to uh the results we get from students. So if there are no questions that would be my recommendation no questions or comments. Can I get a motion to approve the corporations continue participation in the federal title one program and authorize Mr. Joish to serve as the program coordinator. I move that we um approve the corporation's continued participation in Title One and authorize Mr. Joe Rich as the pro coordinator. >> Second. >> I'll second. >> All in favor say I. >> Opposing. >> On to out of state overnight field trips. >> Couple this month we have the high school dance team asking go to go to the national
dance alliance. That would be this summer, July 7th through July 10th, and that's at Ball State University. So, it's instate, but it is an overnight trip. The other one would be the the junior high school cheerleading team. This would be a new one for us for them to attend an event uh in the January February range of 2027. They would need some time to do some fundraising for them. The coaches understand our expectations for out of school or out of state and overnight trips. I have no reservations. Yeah. Can I get a a motion to approve the overnight field trips as stated? >> Motion to approve the overnight field trips. >> I get a second. >> All in favor say I. >> I. Oppose. >> How did uh how did our Washington DC trip go?
>> Was that over the weekend? >> Mr. Cleveland, >> it went exceptionally well this year. So, they had great weather the whole time. Uh great travel down there. Got back a little early, still about midnight on Saturday, but >> didn't forget about time and many memories remain. So, >> thank you for the update as many came back with everybody. >> Uh, Mr. Brown. >> Yes. >> Can I circulate back to business information and add an item that I got an update on today? >> Uh, I guess it depends what it is. >> The update from the bond bank. As you remember, um, last year, uh, we entered into the bond bank fuel budgeting program, um, as we had the a number of years before that. Um, and, um, when as we're going through that process,
you asked uh, that we bring you periodic updates. And I received an email from the bond bank today um, right before the meeting, and I thought it was important to share this information with you. Um, as you can see, uh, on the first page, it's about the gasoline and and the cap of of $28 per gallon. I think it's important to note that this is the NYX, not the retail um, pump price. So, so it's it's a different thing than what you you would see driving by the gas station. Um, but as long as the NX daily average settles above the calf $28, we get money sent back to us based upon the number of of gallons that we hedged up front. Um, what you see here is a total monthly result for the entire
group who's participating. Um, I can tell you that our share of that was right around $900 this month. Um, and you then they have a chart that kind of shows the first four months of the performance versus the cap. Um the next page, the the the third page would be the diesel results. The cap on that's a little bit higher. Diesel usually runs a little bit higher than than gasoline. Um but you can see that that actually has shot up much quicker, higher above the cap than gasoline did. Our share of that's about $2,600. And again, the chart there shows um how it's comparing to the cap. Um, I would tell you that year to date, um, we've received $6,540.36. Um, that has exceeded what we paid to be part of the program. Um, and
good news, bad news, I don't see it coming down next month. Um, so we'll probably see more money coming in and I'll just update you every quarter or so as as that happens. happy to answer any questions about it, but I thought this was um important to share with you as is one of our costs saving, >> right? >> Um moves. >> No, I appreciate the update. >> Thank you. >> Want to um Sorry, I lost my train here on to contract recommendations, resignations, leaves, and retirement stuff. do have a list of certified recommendations for you including Rachel Harris, Amanda Hogland, Abigail Huff, Brooke Leisure, Amy Olsen, Tandis O'Neal, Sandra Pal, Olivia Rob, Melissa Yoder, and then the next page we go to some certified resignations, Haley Diaz Vega, Garrett Giziki, Miles Wer. Certified retirements,
Kim Deer, Julie Truscott, Steve Weary, Renee Wickham. Classified recommendation Benjamin Travis Owens and then the ECR recommendations Chris Gayward, Matt Dickerson, Wes Richter, David Dysbach, Chris Tatum, Kylie Watkins, Bob Scriber, Brandon Winkl, and Kelsey Jones. One ECA resignation from Miles Wer and summer school recommendations for Sarah McKenzie and Laura Si. I'd ask that the board approve the personal reports presented. In addition, allow me to hire as needed for the duration of this year, though it's not long. We still have a couple weeks left and of course um hiring for 26 27 we would bring those names to you at the next regular schedule board meeting. >> Okay. Get a motion approve the personnel report as presented. >> So move second. All in favor say I. I. >> All oppose say. >> Mr. Brown I do
have some people here if you wouldn't mind us uh introducing that to the board. >> We can start with uh JB Stevens. >> Here I am. That's me. Hi everybody. Amy Sutton, principal JB Stevens. I'm excited to introduce you Tandis O'Neal. You missed it. Yes. Tandis will be joining the JB Stevens teaching staff. She's a recent graduate of Marian and more importantly a graduate of Greenfield Central as well. So, um I do believe I was the GIS assistant principal when she was a cadet coming over. And so I'm not quite sure how the math is adding up as how it's bringing her to you um as a teacher in our building, but we are very excited to have you join the JB Steven staff and welcome home. Thank you. Uh Mr. Miller, >> I am
uh very happy to announce we have three new fourth grade teachers. Um I have Abby Hub. >> Hi everybody. you can stand coming from Monty area. I have Rachel Harris who was an intern here in Greenfield a couple years ago coming back. And I also have Brooke Leisure who is coming from Lafayette. So we welcome you and we're so glad you're here. >> Courage not. >> Hi everyone. Good evening. Uh it's a privilege tonight to introduce three of our new teachers. I'll be back in June with a few more. Uh just would like to introduce first Sandy Powell who is returning to Greenfield Central. She's actually been teaching with us now for a little over a year doing some health and maternity leaves for other teachers. So Sandy will be rejoining our outstanding facts department.
She's a graduate of University of Florida and University of Phoenix. Like to introduce Olivia Rob. Olivia most importantly is a Purdue Boiler Maker. So, we have that going for us. Uh, Olivia is from Batesville. She's the daughter of a chemistry teacher and Olivia will be teaching chemistry for us at the high school. So, a graduate of Purdue and American College of Education. So, welcome to teach chemistry. >> Wow. >> Uh, and finally, Amy Olsen. Amy will be teaching math, especially algebra, primarily algebra for us. and Amy most recently is at Yorktown Middle School. So will be joining us with degrees from Hastings College and Ball State University. So got all that memorized, but I'm glad to have Amy here and uh I'll speak for all the principles here. It really is a credit to all
of you, all of us, our school community here where we're able to recruit and hire well. Um we really are able to um choose from among the best there. So welcome to R3. Thanks. >> And last, Mr. Cleveland. >> Yes. I'd like to introduce Amanda Hogan. She's going to be joining us at the junior high high school as a technology specialist. So, we're glad to have her on. >> Did we miss anybody out there? >> Welcome you all to Grateful Center. >> Thank you. Welcome everybody. All right, let's move on to uh winter out of state coaching second reading. Yeah. Second reading here supposed to be women's basketball, cheering, women's swimming, men's swimming, men's wrestling, and women's wrestling. If you have no questions, I would recommend the board approve those as presented. >> Yeah. Get
a motion to approve coaches as recommended. >> Motion to approve. >> Second. >> All in favor say I. I. >> All oppose. Same. Classified certified handbook review. Second reading. >> Yep. Also a second reading there. Um, no changes are made from last month, but obviously make some adjustments to the benefits addendum as well as uh some of those compliance memos on the certified handbook, makeup work, student communication, etc. There are no questions. I'd recommend approval. >> No questions or comments. Can I get a motion to approve the classified and certified hand book revisions as presented? >> So move second. >> Second. All in favor say I. >> I. All oppose. Same. Thank you, Dr. Al. If we don't have anything else, anybody? All right, we'll move right along to um important dates. Uh academy graduation
will be May 20th. Um hopefully that's 2026 202 there. >> Memorial Day May 25th, 2026. No school final student day, Thursday, May 28, 2026. Teacher work day, Friday, May 29th, 2026. Commencement Saturday, May 30th, 2026 at 10:00. Greenville Central High School Gymnasium. Uh, summer school will start June 1st, 2026. Our regular schoolboard meeting will be June 8th, 2026, 7:00 here. Um, nothing else. Oh, topics for future agenda. Technology service annual report. School nurse annual report. Now I want to if we have nothing else can I get a motion to adjurnn that we adjourn the meeting. Okay, get it. Second say I All right. Thank you. I got a new staff member maybe out the side
