To the flag of the United States of America and to the stands nation. >> Thanks everyone for coming. Get started. First I'd like to welcome Trent Mr. Taylor. Some may know some he was uh here for Greenville for Greenville Central High School for a while. He left us and went to nice town, but >> he wanted to come back and help us out again. So, >> found my way back, >> but we welcome him. So, get started with our spotlight school. Good evening. I'm Sarah Garlic, principal at Harris Elementary, proud principal of a really great school. Um, and I have with me Kaylee. Um, she's gonna say her last name because I knew I wouldn't be able to do >> Michael. And so, um, you're going to see why it's just me and Kaylee tonight
here in just a minute. Um, I promise there are cute kids all over Harris that do amazing things every day, but you'll see why just a second. There's a there's here tonight. We're here to talk to you about community connections and outcomes. Um, and I'm going to start by showing you a graphic on the screen. You're going to see um the 202526 priorities for Greenfield Central. Um, these uh priorities are shared with usually in June by um our central office staff um through the leadership of Dr. Olen, Dr. Carrie, Dr. Marine, Mlair, Mr. Day, I mean Mr. all these wonderful people. I just really wanted to say doctors. >> Congratulations. Um I practiced that today. Um so um they have um every year they roll out to principles and we spend a lot of time
planning for a great school year. We start by talking about how we're going to establish one year's growth. Um and then we work through all the different ways that we can meet one year's growth. And as you can see, there are some defined areas and ways to do that. And so we intentionally um starting in the summer and move forward. And so to get to that one year's growth, we do all of those things. Today, I'm going to focus on this increasing stakeholder engagement piece. So that's why those two videos are there for us today. I want to start out by first reminding that to get there, it doesn't come without a whole lot of intentional instructional planning. We revisit um at Harris, our mission. Um we plan for great teaching and learning opportunities for
both our adult staff, our stu and then our students. And we do this very intentionally through our professional learning communities. Um where we establish a guaranteed and viable curriculum and we plan for system systematic interventions that are informed by our common formative assessments and this just happens routinely at Harris. Um but I really think the most important thing that I want you to know about what I think gets us to some really great outcomes going back to that community connection and outcome piece is this. On this chart, you'll notice that there are three ways that we um see connection and community at Harris. There's that which is our school community, that which is our community partners, local agencies that come beside us and help us plan for great student outcomes and support us in that
process. And then our student community, and when I say student community, that's your next generation of community partners right there. These are the kids that sit at our high school and come visit us. Visit us at Harris on a daily basis. Kids from the high school come through Harris and you can see a wonderful list. I actually left off a community partner by accident. Um we partner with NASA as well with our second grade classrooms. And so that is a I I there's not kids here because I couldn't bring them all. All the people that do all the things, I couldn't bring them all and I really wanted to when we started putting this together. So took a different um approach this time. class. >> And so I just kind of want to give you
some just visuals of what community and connection looks like with Harrison. We call it the sweet smile of success on a student's face. And um this is how you know you're getting the job done is when you see kids engaged in learning um opportunities. This can look like this is an example of a great partnership that we have here at Harris through a grant from the United Way. We partnered then with the high school future farmers of America program to show learning and action. So, these kids went through um a new unit that we had um and and it had to do a lot with like farm and animals and those experiences. Why wouldn't we partner with our high school to bring this hands-on learning experience at our high school paid through a grant from
the United Way? So, you can see all the connections begin to come together. Additionally, these are our Indiana woodworkers of central Indiana that come and love on our kids twice a year. They handcraft toys um and share those with students and surprisingly they absolutely love the m These are two sacred times that we have at Harrison and these people spend a lot of time investing in our school community. Variety of other things that you can visually see how we engage our families. Outcomes don't come without great partnerships. We've had a lot of student teachers, our local high school students lead in our schools and that is something that we're so very proud of and we welcome them all the time at Harris. Other ways that we connect our students to the community through unified champions.
This year Harris is a Riley Champion school. Um On the right side is Nora Nice. Nora Nice represents Riley Hospital who's a Riley champion and we're proud to support his family and that partner with Riley this year. Um and then additionally, um we engage our students and families through a variety of opportunities at Harris um through our PTO and our PBIS programs. >> I think to kind of um lead us into the next section um I want to share with you what our community says about us. This is Red Al. used to serve on this board. Um, and she's currently the Hancock County Chamber of Commer commerce president and she's a readup tutor. She says Harris actively engages parents, local organizations, and community leaders to enhance student learning and provide enriching opportunities that extend beyond
the classroom. This collaborative approach strengthens student outcomes and reinforces the school's role as the cornerstone of the community. To see their faces was exciting, says Mr. Bill. itself. >> I'll direct your attention over here. The alignment of culture, empowered people and effective systems anchored by the belief that every child is loved positions Harris as an model of ele of educational excellence. And this is my current PTO president also. That leads me into that positioning ourselves as a place of excellence. up here. You will see on the screen, this comes off of the GPS dashboard on the state of Indiana's website. Um, this identifies Harris's trajectory. We can be a little up and down at Harris, but we work really hard for positive outcomes. I want you to notice to the right of the screen post
pandemic as we've worked through learning loss and bringing our students back and applying great um curriculum and resources that our district and that you guys approved for us to see the outcomes of what that looks like. On the right side, you can see some of those up arrows. That's exactly what we all the time and resources that you invested in us to do. >> That looks like this. A 96% pass a 96.9% pass rate last year um for us on the I read assessment with all of our students going up 11.2%. Our economically disadvantaged students posting 12.1% improvement, students receiving intervention through title one going up 16.2% and our special education population going up over 50%. Again, thank you for the support that you provide us to get this good work done in the buildings.
>> Didn't know the kid on the right wants to see people in this room. He's special. All of this to say that one of the most important things we do for my kids that the safety and support and belonging that they have are the cornerstone and foundation for outcomes. We can't do any of those things without the amazing community partners that we have to come alongside us and support us financially and relationally and invest time in us. That moves us to the cute part and this is where Kaylee has helped us out. We couldn't think of a better way, a better capstone to put on this than partnering with a student at the high school. So while I set this up, Katie Kayle's going to share a little bit more about what she did. Hi
guys, I'm Kaylee. Um I'm a senior at the high school. I'm a part of the radio TV program. You guys have actually probably seen me in here before a few months ago talking about the program and part of that is um a capstone um project for the seniors. So I was actually having trouble finding one. Um I was at the junior high for a while and realized that that age group is not for me. Um so I quickly let Mr. Hudson know and he let me know that Mic had actually reached out talking about is asking for someone and that she specifically wanted to talk to me. And so I got to do this. Um I've loved making this video. I've loved going to the elementary school and seeing everything that they're doing. Um it's
a lot more fun there than it is at the high school. Um and a lot cuter. But yeah, I hope you guys enjoy this video. >> Thank you for making this for us. going to school and everything. But yeah, I hope you guys enjoy this video. Plenty of sweet faces from here. Thank you for the opportunity to share about the great work and community partners that make successful outcomes. >> Thank you. Was there any uh interest in public speak for approval for meeting January 12th, 2026 and the executive session for January 12 minutes of January 12th, 2026? Included in your packet are the regular claims, the payroll claims. >> No questions or comments. Yes. Included in this month's report budget order 2026. We received our notice. It was as expected. Changes the issued the budget
order for us. See, what we've been approved for this year, what our tax rates going to be, what our taxes are next year, as we discussed past the last time we'll see it grow from year to year over the next few years. We already saw that the growth rate for our value was down last year. Also on the last page every year transfers If we look at our final actual numbers, compare that over the last few years on page three and five. You can see we continue to try to shrink down some of our expenditure areas. Take a look at some of those numbers. ilities to do increases utility rates as much as extra usage. Overall, we continue to be in good shape next year. successful financial position question make mention of that but I
do want to congratulate both Deon Marie who defended his dissertation last as well as Mr. Monday. >> So, we wanted to just provide a quick update of what's going on since we announced that. So, several things have taken place since then. So in preparation for next school year we surveyed the certified staff classified staff just to get their preferences. So staffing things are still leadership team district leadership team school leadership teams both walked the facility looking for uh just visualizing the another school into another one schoolific and then you know Mr. Curtis and his leadership team continue to think about what that student experience might look like for a lot of things yet to figure out but we are well on the wayart that identifies things where you have all those answers right I guess.
Do you have an idea of the start time there? >> Oh, I the next page. I'm sorry. >> We have a We have a pretty solid, I think, um, tensive plan for start times. They're not going to really look that much different than where we're at right now. So, that's minor adjustments in our uh, schedules just arrival, but the most part shift trying to align all of our tier one schools K4 schools to that same timeline. We've run a lot of scenarios through a lot of work on that transportation standpoint. We followed up with our principles to get some feedback there. We did not only one >> three and four right now where they're at this morning. >> I'm looking so we we talked to Mr. transportation about some of the challenges they were looking
at. We circulated a draft of our principles. Last week they gave us some feedback. The big move was aligning everybody. together. We were able to add 10 minutes >> 10 minutes to the tier school day. It may not seem like a lot. routes together which is what we have today. All that being said very >> may not be exactly what you thought you this recommendation here. We shared a recommendation with you last month and shared it with our classroom teachers association had posted it on our website had asked for people to provide some feedback and we did receive 71 comments. Consider we have 4,200 students and another 700 staff members, parents like that was a pretty low number. So we tried to figure out how to get a little bit more We put out a
one question survey. You can see that we received 422 responses there. So we did increase that input, but again considering we sent that out to about 5,000 emails, maybe 4,00 in there's some duplicates there. We asked for one per household increase. What you're seeing is not much different than what you've seen in the last couple years. We have a number of people who are about maintaining a twoe fall break. We have some people who would like to see us go to a onewe break. If you look at the specific things, we ask people to give us their number one priority for their family and that would include the mentioned items, maintaining a twoe fall break, moving to a oneweek fall break while having one week at Thanksgiving. We also some people want us to align
to the other Hancock County schools being a high priority at 8%. Almost 7% indicated they wanted us to start each semester with a short week in January. 9% told us they didn't have a strong opinion. I would tell you about 90% of our people don't have a strong opinion by not responding to the survey. But those who did, it's pretty split. Those who want the twoe break, those who'd rather not have the twoe break. That being said, I wanted the board to have an opportunity to really reflect on the feedback. Wasn't my goal to push anyone individual's will on what that calendar looks like for next week. What you will notice on the last pages to last page shows you the calendar that we posted on the website. The next page is an alternative there
that really tries to take components of all of those. What this does is it makes sure that we that do not go to school in July, June at the end of the year that we would start on shortened weeks in August and in January where it finds that hybrid is it does not have a twoe fall break. It does not have a oneweek fall break. It would actually be an extended fall break by adding a couple days there October 7th and 8. just an alternative for you to look at that does allow us to meet some of those a little bit of everybody's priorities. Again, that's a lot to throw out there. I'm certainly open to feedback from the board. What we're saying is most people in our community are just saying what the calendar
is going to be and we're going to find a way to make it work. >> I guess on the second calendar that we have here week that Thursday off the same November start now are showing teacher work day at the beginning of the second. >> One of the things that we did hear very well for our teachers, particular teachers, they'd like to have a teacher work day on that January 3rd, which we can accomplish by pulling the May 26 days there. Have we looked with our neighbors on the the first calendar of the post? Are we totally in line? >> Like maybe they'll have our spring week earlier than ours. >> No, the spring break would be in line. >> But I thought all four I thought the other three were going to have a
full week at Thanksgiving and then Mount Vernon just told me they were not going to do that. So there's not going to be total lineup for those. Some places are going to have more e-learning days than others. Some early release day. So it's never going to be completely uniform. We're trying to find more common We've never had the exact same calendar as the other schools that send that is certainly not the other piece that I did put out there in the draft last month is the reality that some of our teachers live in other portions of the county and as their kids get a little bit older that be a big deal when they don't have kids. When they do start to have kids, some of those teachers are starting to look to teach where
their kids are going to school because of the calendar. That is something that concerns me a little bit when we talk about >> how much has affected everyone else including us as far as a lot of discussions about It's just a focal point. The reality right now is most school corporations have more alignment than we do because they've moved away from the twoe. We're the only ones who retain that. So because of that difference that throws a few days off beginning of the year, end of the year. From my perspective, it was the responsible thing to do to share with our community the realities we face. Some of our kids are going to have some challenges at the career center, which they already have. Some of our teachers may choose to leave us down. I
don't like that. But that's part of what we're going to do to be unique here. That's what our community wants and that's what we need to do. That's why sheet unless the board feels like you're ready to make a decision. still a year and a half. >> I think that was one thing maybe it wasn't as clear to some folks responding that this is not next. So we do that intentionally trying to give as much time. I will say I think it's pretty important to acknowledge that part of our teaching staff to have that day semester. I think that's really >> that's an easy thing to accomplish. >> Well, otherwise you're having a few times. >> We will bring that back next month. A little bit more time to reflect on that. We get additional
feedback. share that as well. >> Yes, we have one donation reception area $2,700 to ask a motion to construction update. It's a little skinnier report than I would typically give you. Just hadn't had a lot of work done west property had a lot to do with that. If you drove down Franklin Road, you would notice that was not taken occupancy of that. We really didn't want to put our equipment over there, hit a curb, curb, so we couldn't get over there to give you some updated pictures. What I shared with you is they have continued work on the inside of that building. The exterior has been wrapped some of that mechanical work. We put this together last Wednesday. You would have noticed Thursday afternoon they started putting the lights in very similar what's next. As
for the other construction project that we have going on, we had a a meeting with Terry Lancer's team today. Get some updates there. Tell you things are continuing to move forward. We should have some construction documents by mid March that 90% progress. We did have some some drainage, some sanitary lines that we had to have some locates done on both at the GIS site and at Maxwell Maxwell we had an old building south an old that's actually where the old shop was part of Hancock Central that building was torn down there were some lines that were located before that team. We had that meeting just things are progressing much farmer has trouble with those time as well. So that's the only updates I have for you there. on the back page there. I did note
for you that we're looking at some surveillance upgrades at Greenfield Central High School cameras five or six years ago some things we like to bolster handbook. >> Last year we moved this up a little bit to not have this with the regular student handbook because some of the work that we do forms that they need to fill out. So we have both and junior high and high school what they're recommending. You're seeing draft versions here. Very minor changes that are mostly in red. Mr. He's happy to address any of those changes. >> Okay, we have three in front of you and don't let me forget. I have one in paper copy in front of you, but the first one there comes from our They would like to take their teams to state park in July.
The men's soccer coach would like to take his team to team camp at Anderson University in July. And then coach would like to take the women's soccer team. And then the one in front of you honor society for language. They have a trip that they were participate in Washington DC. The foundation has actually registration they would like to attend that actually takes place 27th through March. I have no reservations for any of those trips per second. All in favor say we have one certified resation recommendations for Josh Matt Dickerson as needed. Motion approve as presented as presented and authorizing. We just have one other thing. The RDC RDC since I live in the county and I need to remove myself. If we have nothing else, I'll move right along to President's Day, Monday, February 16th.
School school board meeting Monday, March 9th at 7 o'clock, spring break, March 16th. Future agenda will be county library annual report. If I have nothing else, >> thanks everyone. That's all right.
