As a reminder, this is a longstanding program with the purpose of supporting families and providing gifts um for their children over the holidays. More specifically, school social workers care families who express the need with generous community donors. Um the donors themselves purchase those gifts for the family and then we are able to those in need. When they sign up for the program, we ask them to provide in their sign up something that their child wants, something that
their child needs, something that they wear, and something to read just to give our donors an ide. And as we've said many times before, we have a very generous community. So, we have supported 43 total students this year through the business program. got 330 families. Uh I believe the board has received both the transfer certificate and transfer resolution for each of these three. Uh this is something we have to do each year in order to as part of our year end project, but asking the board for approval of the 2025 transfer as presented. Thank you, Madam President. Uh board policy 654 requires that the board annually approve reimbursement rates for travel. They're asking the board approve the new IRS mileage rate of 72.5 cents per mile up a little bit from 70 cents last year uh retroactive to January 1st and that we continue to utilize the GFA per rate for the General Services Administration has left
the PM rate in place from last year. lodging has a range of $110 to $143 per night and meals per day and $68 to $80 range. Um the reason for the range is because some parts of the state are more expensive to stay overnight. So that's why we just ask for approval for those rates. to a new I am excited to share our first formal legislative report. So the role of is really just a traffic house that could impact. These reports do follow a format and information is provided by the um the subject isformational and intended to summarize not small. So following the report if the board wishes they may choose to discuss department. Um we're kind of moving into the actual formal report. We are currently in morning three of the budget session of
Indiana general. The top three things to know right now for ISBA is first the calendar committee activity this week education approved three bills and senate approve four. The second thing that is a um wants you to know right now is that 104 which is a broad education deregulation bill is approximately cases. IFA does support the bill and they were able to provide 24 recommendations with those actually being in the current. The intent is to help restore balance between state oversight through regulation and local. The third item they have is Senate Bill 248 which has proposed moving south school corporation from a member of elected school board to an appointed board with those appointments being made by September. ISBA did oppose this bill and 21 people testified this week and probably the bill has been paused
for this session at so time to course correct and figure things out before. So there are currently 83 bills being tracked on ISBA's tracking list. Um, if anyone wants to see what those are, they can access that automated list on the website under the legis and there are currently no call to action. A few deadlines that are coming up. Um, bills need to pass out of committee in the chamber of origin by noon on Monday, January 26, and they need to pass their third reading in Chamber of January 29th to remain active. So short session 83 goals last session and they're estimating what that will not last thing on the calendar is ISB state house day is Tuesday February 17th in Indianapolis president and myself and once RSVP so we'll share any key takeaways from
that I think I went through some I don't know if you guys follow a lot of other school my understanding of it is there were a lot of financial things that kind of came up um with the change of superintendent and um claims were made and I'm my understanding is they were trying to validate whe and so one of the larger city schoolorations provide more but I know like I said a lot of the current administration the number of city official comments on board comments. I would just call attention to uh the weather decision that was made this morning on our weather notification is our decision making process often times with no forecast coming out the lake we might get everything. And so we made the morning and so I go out with a couple
of other teams and drive the roads not only but also the auxiliary roads both as well. looking at conditions might be consulting school but also getting so we try to make that call as early as 5 a.m. make that if you scroll down a little bit and is wide whether it is appropriate to view the la.gov They are extremely accurate. hour by hour and look at that as we look at it with all the way knew that we were going to not have school. The question that became because we know so early sometimes touch up by 6 a.m. I think that call this so evident we had time to communicate with our teachers to engage their preparity quality and other be so that amount of time that days. So, uh in order to help preserve
uh you know one more day that we built into our calendar, we were able to go ahead and the emails went out and What was it about 8:45 morning did not hearing somewhere else and then um as you know we do and then make it up later. But we put these four reasons why we have set up just ever since the first war I think we really do believe in learning most um to create high quality data given us our own for having no power internet for families and for teachers trying to conduct learning on the fly during the finally a little bit. But we do ask that our Our children want to take a moment to walk through that. Questions pop up. How about I know the advanced notice and I'm 50. But for
both of us who were at the Christmas party that our hostess put together for us this year, she did such an amazing job. And it was so unfair for us to uh not reciprocate the love that was given to us. And so she gave each of us a framed uh picture, but it was a Christmas movie. Um and so I tried to play the game that she played and I don't know how well I've done, but this is what it had. Okay. The movie title is the firewall before Christmas. And the tagline, when the holidays go digital, she keeps the whole secure. This Christmas, the lights aren't the only thing. Actually, it's the kind of woman who makes everything. And somehow a house full of energy boys who could turn a quiet afternoon into a
fullblown active people. who works from home are impacted everywhere on screens, in meetings, in the community because when something matters shows up and this year something big. It starts with a small glitch. a calendar duplicated a password reset that nobody requested a door system that hesitates just for a second most but actually doesn't because when you've got sharp instinct you don't ignore those details you follow them so as holiday events ramp up and school district leans on technology more than ever to gain security staff access protection and unseen threats into the season like a shadow in the snow. Suddenly, the systems that keep everyone safe are being tested and the clock is ticking for the biggest night of the year. Now, between community meetings, family moments, the three boys who keep her laughing and running,
Ashley does what she always does. pulls every moving piece into one clear. Getting everyone's thoughts aligned, asking questions nobody else to ask, and making sure the right safeguards are in place before anyone even realizes they needed them. This isn't just about technology, about trust. It's about safety. It's about protecting what matters. And as the snow falls and the pressure rises, Ashley discovers the truth. Sometimes person is the one who keeps the password. >> The firewall before Christmas coming this holiday season where hard beats high tech and one brilliant mom proves that security is the real magic. I had to do that unfortunately. I am not like Ashley had two pictures from so I wanted to know you
