001again. And I will call to order the Masanomic Regional School District School Committee meeting at 7:01 p.m. on May 27th. Um before we get going with any of our agenda business, I see we have our SA. Um so maybe we could just start with our SAB update. >> You don't mind introducing yourself and >> Oh, hello everyone. I'm Evan Sano. I'm the current and new SAB at large for the executive board. I'm a sophomore from Boxford. You might remember my brother. He was the last SAB at large. Ethan Sano. He is now the current president-elect for student council. Here are the updates since our last meeting. So, the past events that have already happened. Senior prom was at Danver's Yach Club on May 20th. It was pretty successful. Um MCCAST for sophomores. Sophomores had math

002MCCAST the past week on Tuesday the 19th and Wednesday the 20th. Uh last Friday was Memorial Day assembly. Uh was pretty successful. It we had um I think it was around 15 veterans came and Mr. Maziac was the um main speaker of the day. Um current and upcoming events, senior graduation is happening this Friday. Um Relay for Life in the Freshman walk is happening next Friday. Um students are getting ready to start finals which is going to be happening on the 12th. Um here's a little sports update. Baseball had their senior night but lost 3 to 12 which is unfortunate but they had a good season going 12 and 8. tennis went eight and three in are currently playing in states. Um, track and field had a really good season. They got they went undefeated

0039000 winning the NEC championships. Um, and they beat PB the first time since 2012. They also states is happening this Thursday and this Friday, I believe. Um, softball went 11-6 and made playoffs this year this year and they're having their their first round this Saturday against Mar Middleboro. Lacrosse boys went eight and 10, missing the playoffs by one seed. And the girls lacrosse went 11 and six and have their first playoff game today against Bedford. Um, and that's all. >> Thank you. Thank you. Okay, any questions, any comments? Well, as always, you're welcome to stick around, hang out with us for a little bit, or you can go enjoy the the few nice evenings we've had lately. Up to you. >> Thank you for your update. >> All right. Our first order of business is

004a school committee reorganization topic, but I do um just want to steal the mic for one more minute before I uh leave my seat as chair. Uh just to make a couple quick comments. So, first I just want to congratulate all the students that are graduating on Friday. Um I know it's such a big moment for everybody. They should all be so proud of themselves. Family's proud of them. Um I know we're proud of them and we take a lot of pride in educating our students here. I also want to thank all the educators here, the administration, coaches, all everybody that contributes to, you know, the the experience that these students have here at Masco and everything that leads up to uh this graduation event after four years. So, congratulations to the students. Thank you

005to all the uh educators and and employees here at Masco. Uh my only other comment is just uh thank you to the school committee. It's been a bit of a crazy year. We've uh we lost our assistant superintendent for uh finance and operations. Uh we've lost our superintendent. We've hired a new superintendent. Um we hit a budget of 2 and a half%. Um and we dealt with some some challenging situations over the year. And I just want to say thank you to everybody that was on the committee last year for trusting me to help lead this group. Um, it was, like I said, it was a challenging year, but I think we accomplished a lot. And, you know, I mentioned to to somebody earlier today that just having everybody here as as a group gives

006me gave me a lot of comfort knowing that we could get through it. So, this is an excellent school committee and I appreciate everybody everything that everybody did and appreciate your trust. So, um, with that, we'll move on to the school committee reorganization. >> I'm gonna let you do all of this. >> Okay. >> I want to get so I can >> Okay. >> I want to get out of my seat as fast as possible. I am so excited. >> Um, >> right. Uh so we have school committee policy BBA school committee organization meeting which basically says we will take nominations from the floor for a new chair. So do I have any nominations for a chair nominate Adrian to be chair >> second any discussion? >> I'll just say I appreciate the work you

007two have done in tandem this year. It's a lot of work getting our not only our capital some almost over the finish line but getting our budget to where it is. So I know both of you worked very hard at that and the outreach definitely appreciated. So thank you >> and yes >> thank you. I couldn't have done without you. >> So maybe um >> any other discussion on nomination for chair? Okay I will take a roll call. around the table. Jeff, >> Yes. Alice, >> yes. >> PC, >> yes. >> Joe, yes. >> You don't get to vote, unfortunately. Me, >> I'm sure you would vote. Yes. >> Yes. Megan. >> Yes. >> I don't want to vote for myself, do I? >> You can. You can. You do. >> Come on. like you

008did else if you want >> and I'm a yes. So >> upon you the gabble I don't but you can say thank you everyone for the vote of confidence. I know my instinct is to say thank you but I've learned it's more of a welcome situation being up here. Um it's a lot of work um but it's important and it means a lot to me. So thank you for trusting me with this. Um before we move to the next piece of this I think just checking in with you members. Do you guys you guys are up to speed on the process? Do you understand like how you can vote? All of that stuff you guys are good. Okay. Any questions now? Okay. All right. Um, so the next step is electing vice chair and the

009role of vice chair is really just to be the standin if the chair is absent and then take on any duties or delegated things as assigned by the chair generally is what it says in our policy. So um do we have any nominations? >> Nominate Jeff. Oregon. >> Okay. Do we have any second on that? >> Second. Do we have discussion? >> Nominate Joe. >> Now we have two nominations on the table. Do we have a second for Joe? I'll second. Okay. >> Now we have two nominees. Any other discussion? Nominees. So I'll can I speak? >> Absolutely. Yeah. This is for >> I'm thinking back to last year and I think that this process is not really clearly spelled out >> and I know we've had a lot of discussions about you talk about

010one person then the other person and vote on the one person then you do a second person you vote on the other person. So, first thing I'm going to say is I'm not so sure we're following whatever the standard rules of order are here. It's uh it's a little unusual. Either way, I think is unusual. Whether you follow the right way or the wrong way, I I I don't agree with the way the process necessarily works. Um >> just to be clear, my intention be to straw poll and then move forward consensus. Yeah. So, I'm just saying that it hasn't been clear to me over the last few years trying to look it up and see how does this really supposed to work. This is an area that really is gray. >> Um, >> I

011did ask if there are questions. >> Yeah. Having been I know, but they wouldn't know enough to ask because they haven't tried to look that stuff up >> necessarily. Well, in terms of how you actually chair the meeting when when the uh people are being nominated, but regardless. So, I've done uh the vice chair role before, as most people know. It's really a position where you're learning about how to be chair and you're acting as a standin and you're adding some leadership. Um I will say that my career right now, um if anybody knows anything about semiconductors, you know that things are mushrooming like crazy. Um, I think that it would be a bad usage of a year to have me be vice chair again because I've already done it before and there's not much

012more for me to learn in that role. Uh, and it's an opportunity to bring someone else up into the into the fold and let them get a feel for whether they can be chair or not. Uh, and I would say there's a very good chance that my travel um, schedule is going to get crazy in the next couple of years. So, I don't think it would be good to have me be vice chair because the assumption there typically is you move into the chair role and I don't know sitting here today that I would be able to commit to do that. So, for that reason, I do not wish to be vice chair. Um, that's all I can say. So, and I appreciate you being transparent about your availability, your flexibility, what your perception is

013on that. I think that's helpful. Um, so if Joe takes himself off the table, we're back to one nomination unless there's any other discussion here. Anybody want to put anything on the table or consideration questions? Can >> I ask recess? Recess. order. I don't think that's I don't think that's appropriate in the middle of discussion >> entire rules. It's inbounds. You can absolutely ask for a recess at any point as long as the chair is open to it. So, how long do you need? >> Two minutes. I will grant the two-minute recess. >> Thank you. >> I in trouble. Oh, jeez. I know what happened last time. with the vice chair Trevor. Yep. Are you still accepting nomination? >> So, we are returning from recess. The discussion on the table is for Jeff Oregon and

014I am entertaining discussion around Jeff. Jeff's nomination, I guess, not Jeff personally, but like Jeff's nomination. Um I don't I don't know if people are comfortable with this step in the process but having just accepted chair I'll offer some thoughts that maybe will help people think about this especially membership. I am very committed to committee being successful. Whoever you guys decide is the vice chair is the vice chair. I will work with that person. I don't have a problem working with anybody, including Jeff. We've worked very closely on Vocal for the last two years. We've done some great work together. We'll figure it out. That's generally what's going to happen no matter who you guys put in the vice chair role. What I will say is Masco's at a pretty serious inflection point. We have

015our top two leadership positions turning over. Our budget is asking the district to implement changes structurally and operationally. We're asking them to do more with less. We have a capital plan that has to move forward regardless of how this vote goes in Totsville in a couple of weeks. That work has to move forward somehow. That's going to be heavy. We have contract negotiations coming up with our educators. That's going to be heavy. We have a lot on our plate and that's on top of the baseline stuff that we're doing on the school committee. So, we have a decision right now to think about who the right people are to be the spokespeople for that moment and lead the committee in a way that drives progress in a real meaningful way. I think everyone here is

016intellectually capable of deciding who that might be for themselves. Period. You're all here for a reason. The community believes in you. Therefore, I believe in you and I accept the will of the committee. I've had to get on board with some things that I really didn't want to in my two years here. And that's because that's what we do as a committee. Once the will of the committees decide, we keep calm and carry on because that's what's asked of us for our community. So, I do want to take a minute to just say if you don't feel like you have the information you need, ask some questions. Kick the tires. I wish people would have had more discussion around me, but like, okay, I'm sure with all your help I'll be successful. And I don't

017really accept failure, so maybe that's part of it, too. I'll brute force it if I have to. But I want to make sure that everybody understands that this is this is something to think about. It's not a rubber stamp moment. It's something to think about. >> Maybe I'll start. Sorry. >> Go ahead. >> Uh Jeff, do you want the nomination? >> Yes, I do. That's a good start. Uh why do you want the foundation? >> I think I'm good question. Thank you. I mostly expect a st speech. You know, our traditional rubber stamp, but you know, I think um you know, I'm mostly invested. I've been here, this is my second term. I think outside of you know, Joe and Bill, I'm the most tenure person in the school committee at this point. So, I've

018been through a lot of this. Um you know, I'm a PM. I run, you know, $55 million budget every year to my first company. this is um you know right I do and you know I have small children who are rising towards mass economic that's the reason I ran in the first place that's the reason I'm here now I think um you know seeing this role versus the role I set as a participant is different so I have had luxury being more of a bombthrower um which I enjoy but you know it's different role for a different time so I think that's a concern for some people and that's fine to discuss that as much as you like but you know I think you know based off my exposure and my experience on learning I

019think you need someone who's done this for a while and I think you know I'd be great for it. >> Ask I'll ask one more question. >> Sure. >> Chair privilege, right? >> Um I think one of the things that I learned in this seat and I was never vice chair so I never got to learn. >> It shows. >> It's not our fault we nominated. was um one of the things I learned in this seat is it's all about collaboration and partnering and communication and you know I guess um like tell the committee a little bit about how how you see collaboration with the new superintendent and with Adrian and if you know a year from now J collaboration with the committee looks like like >> right >> I mean you know it's new

020it's you know blue sky opportunity here we have a new person you know so I think all us here are here because we want the school succeed that's what we're here to do you know I think personally I think the school committee has not sat in the right role for the last few years I think the tables are a little misguided the way we operated with past administration there's a chance to reset that but really the end of the day is to make sure that the new administration is set for success they're getting good advice We have a long history of knowledge here and to make sure that they are ready to go and we support them while providing guidance. You know, we represent the schools, the students and the towns. And so our job

021is to make sure that voice is heard. Uh and you know, I think I'm I think I have a misapplied reputation of being not collaborative. I say what I think. I'm very happy to be voted down. I'm very I don't you know, I don't hedge what I say. I put it out there for discussion. Um but at the same time, I'm happy to be wrong. That's what I do at work. That's what I do here. I work in a very technical space and the job is to kind of challenge assumptions and push buttons and I say I throw things out there. If they're wrong, they're wrong. That's fine. You know, I accept that. If I'm right, that's fine as well. But, you know, my job at work and my job here, I think, is to

022get to an answer. And sometimes those are awkward awkward conversations. And I think if you're not willing to have awkward conversations, you're not doing your job as a leader. So, your job is to drive those conversations. So, there's full transparency. not on turning any, you know, turning over every leaf from >> Thank you for being willing to be vice chair. It's, you know, the starter to be chair, so that's an undertaking not many of us have done and want to do. So, thank you for doing that. Um, one concern that I do have is with the leadership role you've had as chairing a subcommittee on the committee. Do you think Vocal was able to do its work this year that the committee had adopted its charter to do? I feel like they didn't meet often

023and I don't know if I and there could there's could be reasons behind that. I don't know, but if you could just expand on that a little bit. >> Sure. Yeah. I think local did really well this year. I think it was a transformative year. I think, you know, moving from anti-racist and vocal took a while to get our, you know, our groove. Um, we met done a lot of outreach a lot of the groups, a lot of one-on- ones. We met some of the student as well as teacher organizations as well and brought that back and we saw that today. We actually saw results. We had students coming up and advocating for themselves all day long the second half of the year. And we probably didn't meet as much as we had liked to

024but we were challenged with logistics tender on community relations. We had the superintendent search which really took everybody away and because of that we deliberately backed off on meeting as much as we should have. But you know I think one of the things I do as a school committee is prioritize. >> How many times did you meet? >> Five or six of them. They're all >> sitting sitting on that committee. I think we could have done more. I think a lot of it was it, you know, I think you have a lot on your plate right now outside of school committee too, which personally is probably where I'm concerned the most because I know your schedule is not flexible. I know you're not going to be as available and that's going to be really hard

025because we need to be available. >> I think that's a misinterpretation by you personally. You know, I had a new job last year. You know, startup is always a little busy. You know, we're certain place now. I run a group. I have some staff with me now. Um, I work some weird hours, but you know, Joe was taking calls from Asia, Matt, as well. You know, we all have busy jobs. We all have pretty senior roles here. >> Yes. >> They all make it work. >> I do think that it was noticeable that you were late to Fairmont meetings. It was noticeable that you weren't always available to make yourself available for other meetings. >> I missed one school meeting and if there's traffic, there's traffic. You know, I can work on that. You know,

026it's different role if you're sharing this versus attending. >> I'm being transparent being >> responding, >> giving you the opportunity to offer some assurances that something has changed. You will be present. you know, there there's other things that, you know, I think I want to make sure we're not starting on the back foot either because if you as the messenger are a challenge for the community, we're going to be focused on that, too. So, I don't want to set up any other additional barriers either. >> I think it's a false narrative, to be honest. I think it's there for a purpose. >> Anything's a false narrative. Perception is reality. Unfortunately, you know that I enjoy working with you. I think we've done some great work. I'll work with you. My concern is I don't want

027to make the job harder for the committee or the new administration because of maybe some missteps or some perceptions that are in the public that we'll have to combat. >> Welcome to my group. Hi. Yeah. Um, this is a bizarre conversation. Absolutely bizarre. Um, I mean the reality is and I've been here since the November of 2014 and and these elections are typically discussed privately uh beforehand. Um, and please don't shake your head because I'm just >> take that approach. >> Okay. Well, that's why we're here. um you and it's done privately in advance precisely so you don't have this kind of clumsy conversation that I'm I'm not thrilled is being broadcast right now. So it is what it is. But we have a nomination on the floor um and it was seconded and and

028you know I see no reason why we don't take a vote. Now we can always add you know more people in. I don't I don't have a problem with doing that at this point either, but let's just move this along. >> Jay, you have a comment. >> Just prepared to call the question if we need to move this forward. >> You have a comment? >> Um, it was building off of what you said. >> Oh, one of the key pieces of vice chair and learning is the leadership meetings and I know it's different leadership team coming in. Um would you and the last leadership they could only meet during certain early afternoon hours. Is that something you'd be able to accommodate? >> Yeah, absolutely. And a lot of my work is China hours 7 to

02911 a.m. you know and then I work around this and just on that point you know I I lead board of director meetings for my company and several philanthropies. Um working with leadership is what I do. Um it's really my wheelhouse. So um As we said, this is getting a little weird. Can I just move, you know, move the vote? >> Let's take a vote. I'll start over here. Are we allowed to do any other nominations or are you going to wait? Does he have >> Let's take a vote and then we'll see what we need to do. Um, so Lisa, >> no. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> One second. I want to make sure. Realize I'm chair now. I have to track this. Um, okay. So, Um that's not connecting. Okay. Lisa, no. Jay,

030>> Yes. Okay. Uh Bill, >> yes. >> Megan, uh abstain. Okay. Um yeah. Uh Trevor Alice. Uh Stacey. >> Yes. Um, hey, I'll put it in your hands. No, >> you get to pick your your race chair. >> There aren't any other nominations at this particular moment. So, we have one, two, three, >> four nos. One, two, three, four yeses. Take a question to ask here is does this require a majority of everyone in attendance or just a majority of the people casting ballots? Because if it's if it's a majority of everyone in attendance, you cannot get there. If it's everyone casting ballots, >> policy language is the majority of everyone present and voting. But I'm going to look it up to make sure because important elected by a majority roll call vote of the

031members present and voting >> and voting. >> So, right. So, everyone is voting. We don't get to a majority even with my vote technically speaking. >> That's not what I read. What I heard >> you abstains are not voting. I'm saying they're not voting. >> Oh, they >> and voting. It says >> says they're counted out. Okay. So then I speak before you >> be a minute. Yeah. I'm going to say no. Entertain any other nominations or we'll go back to the vote. We go back to nominations. I would like to nominate I would like to nominate Lisa. Okay, we have a nomination for Lisa. Do we have a second for Lisa? >> I'll second it. >> All right. Do we have discussion? >> Yeah, I'll start. This is Boxford's turn. And if it's not

032going to be Jeff, then I'm willing to do the job. So, just throw that out there. And I'm opposed to anyone else from any other town students. Period. >> And someone else from Boxford wants to do. >> Yeah. >> Lisa, do you accept? >> Oh, sorry. Yes, I accept the nomination. >> Okay. >> Would you do it if I nominated you? I think he's talking to you. >> I nominate Megan Myers. >> Okay. Megan, would you accept the nomination? >> Second. >> Oh, second. Before that, >> have a second. Second. >> Second. So, we can entertain it. >> Oh, sorry. I'll second. You don't need a second. else went ahead and second do accept a nomination to enter. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So that is >> all right. Do we have discussion? >> Have

033a nomination. has a nomination myself again with the caveat that if you guys decide after four months, two months, whatever you guys decide it's not working, I'll happily step down. >> Is there a second for Jeff's nomination? >> I'll send you eight seconds. The chair said you need a second, but he second. Thank you. Guys, I got I gota tell you, I thought I was doing the right thing by not having back channel conversations and letting us have the transparent conversation in person. Um, >> yeah. Yeah. Um, >> I mean, we made Jeff made Jeff answer why he wanted it. He said, "Do you want it? Why?" And then >> Sorry, I'm getting over being sick. So, just um I apologize. >> Exactly. Um, why I want it? Um, so I worked closely with Adrian

034helping to uh select the next superintendent coming into the school. She and I along with the other two committee members worked really well together. I think we're a really strong team. I am excited to meet with the new administration to help transform this new role and the the way the school is now. Um what we're what it's becoming, you know, minus a middle school team and under one principal. Um, I'm also getting out there, meeting the uh community and working closely with them. So, going to town meetings and meeting with people and I'm I would like to make sure that um we are able to bring the school forward. I also I have a rising junior and a rising seventh grader that are coming into the school and I want to make sure that the

035school is what they need going forward. >> You again go ahead. Megan, welcome to the school. Um, listen, I'm here to do what's best for the school committee and the school. And if I can step into that position and do so, I'm all for it. Um, I think having a collaborative relationship, figuring out how to work with people, um, is is really important in the role and looking at who can fill that that position, who has the big shoes to do so. Um, I'd be happy to take a swing. >> Okay. >> How do we do this, guys? >> Like a statement, comment, whatever. >> Um, yeah, I think being a first year new to any kind committee is is a heavy lift. There's so much learning. I'd be concerned on that. Um, you know,

036you don't know you don't know until you hear about a year. Um, but also just to advocate for myself a little bit. You know, I was definitely one of the on the fence, you know, with the new superintendent. And I think having me supporting her from, you know, the vice chair goes a long way. I think it's a good counterbalance um to really get her there. So, you know, I think having me coming in and really supporting her for my previous position is actually a benefit and it's a good way to work and show we have some balance. I think to Joe's point, you know, I think, you know, this is this has a disrespect to Oxford and in general if we're not having a Boxford person there because that's the tradition of how we

037do things. >> Nothing's been decided. >> I know. Yeah. >> Okay. Trevor. >> Um, and Middleton has been in that shoe in those shoes where we have been skipped over in the past. So, I am sympathetic to your cause and I'd be happy to support Joe. Um, but it's difficult to do so with the three of the four Boxford members nominated. So, I don't know if people want to rescend their nominations. Um, but I'd be happy to support Joe if someone were to nominate him. I think we have to um Yeah, I think let's get some sense here of what we're thinking. We have Lisa. Joe has put himself back on the table for a nomination, but no nomination officially. We have Megan nominated from Oxford. And we have Jeff nominated from Oxford. Lisa is

038from Would Folks, show of hands be supportive of someone not from Oxford? Let's start there. People show me. Okay. Three, four, >> all kinds of >> fish. Okay. Um, knowing that this is is a big role to take on, would folks be supportive of a brand new person stepping into this role? >> You sorry. Have you served on any other I I don't know you add on. So have you served on any other boards or committees? >> Um I was a member I was on the board of um uh AMS the metallurgical society at my last company. >> I think your professional experience and what you do for a for a living is very relevant to to this. Yes, but I wouldn't consider it a board position with with the government. I work closely with

039foreign governments. I work closely with customers spreading across the war fighters. So, >> okay. Okay. So, I'm seeing support for box. So, we have Megan and Jeff. Trevor hate >> to do this to you, but I'd like to nominate Joe. >> Okay. >> Can I say something else? >> Hold on. Do we have a second for Joe? >> I'll second myself. How's that? I mean, this is going to sound crazy, so I apologize in advance. Um, I think there are three scenarios here in my head, right? >> Okay. >> One is Jeff gets the role and if for some reason it's not working, I'm happy to step in his place if we find that he's not able to spend the time that's needed to make it successful. Right? Second one is because we are starting

040with a brand new administration and we really want some experience at the beginning of this year, right? But I don't know that I can move into the chair role next year, right? So, but I'd be more than happy to spend the first half of the year doing the job and as if Megan really interested in doing this as she's learning about what school committee is really doing and as a new administration coming up to speed and things are getting a little bit more into the, you know, status quo maintaining daily operations standpoint. I'd be happy to step down and let her step into that role if I don't think I can take on chair next year. Right. Third one is just, you know, doing it all year long. But I'm open to whatever keeps Boxford

041in that role >> and helps us move forward and achieve what we're looking to achieve this year. Just leave that out there. >> So, one I do want to note that we don't really have a formal mechanism for swapping out a chair unless we all collectively >> we have vice chairs resigned before. We had >> resign. Sure. >> I mean, >> no confidence, right? That's what you do. That's >> No, no, no. You can step down from the from the chair vice chair role and have someone take your place. >> You can do that. Collectively, we say I don't know if this isn't working out. I don't know that we really have a mechanism to remove somebody. >> Oh, that. >> So, that's >> Well, yeah, you'd have to rely on obviously >> it could

042be. Yeah. But the other thing I will say is that selfishly Joe, your background on DCI on the capital, all things capital, I've been working my tail off for the last couple of months to get as up to speed as I can on 10 years of history and I've learned a ton and I can speak pretty effectively to it, but I do not have the depth of knowledge that you do or the context that the administration would need. So regardless of whether or not you would be vice chair, I would definitely >> Yeah, I on supporting that no matter what role I'm in. >> Yeah. Okay. Okay. So I think what I'm hearing collectively, the consensus is leaning towards a boxer vice chair. We have a nomination for Joe, Megan, and Jeff. Do we have

043show of hands support for Joe? Um, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Okay. Uh, do we have broad support for Megan? >> Actually, I don't think I can do that to you. You lost me by the >> newbie. >> And then just a quick pulse check on Jeff. Have things changed there? We've got one, two, three. Okay, so it looks like we >> We have another nominee. I did a straw poll on supporting someone other than boxer and it wasn't there. Um, sorry. We will continue to work great together though even though it looks like consensus is driving around Joe at this point. Is everyone okay to take a vote on that? It's good thing my wife's not here both. Okay, let's start over here. Jeff, that >> no. Okay, so Jeff is a no.

044Trevor, >> yes. >> Say yes. Alice, >> yes. >> Alice is a yes. Stacy, yes. Hi, Joe. >> Abstain. I wasn't seeing. Okay. Lisa, yes. Lisa is a yes. Jay, >> Yes. Bill, >> sorry, Jeff. >> No, >> but no. >> Megan, yes. Matt, >> yes. >> Not a yes. I am a yes. Okay. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. That is majority. We have a vice chair. What's that? >> Folks want to withdraw the nominations. >> I withdraw my nomination. Huh? Do I do it myself? >> Yeah. >> Withdraw my drawation technically. >> Yeah. With withdraw Megan. >> Withdraws Megan's I will withdraw Lisa. Dy withdraws. Lisa. >> Okay. Jeff, you nominated yourself. Do you want to withdraw or do you want to vote? Um Whoever runs policy needs to fix this.

045>> The word nominations and then a singular process is very confusing. Jeff >> Oh, spacey. >> Yeah. Joe, >> yes. >> Lisa, >> no. >> Hey, >> abstain. >> Bill, >> yes. >> Megan, >> yes. >> I am see Matt. >> No. >> And I am a No. So you realize you dodged a bullet because you could have had two successful books with the various abstensions. >> Listen, >> we got there. Was it beautiful? >> No, but we got there. Great. Thank you. And I appreciate your patience on that and don't know that I'm convinced that politicking in the background is the way to go with all of that, but >> how you got the job last year. >> That's how you got the job last year. >> Unbeknownst to >> um great. So we

046are >> okay we are at remarks from the chair. Um I'll make this brief. Um just a note so that everyone is aware um Dr. Harvey is still actively involved in transition activities, but while he's kind of burning down his remaining uh time off, uh Brad Denton's going to be at the table with us um to facilitate any requests that we would normally have for the superintendent um and he'll be sort of our interim point of contact. So, thank you, Brad. Appreciate you being here. >> Sure. >> On top of your day job. Um, by way of an update on April 29th, um, the school committee requested, well, we directed the superintendent to outline the scope of an audit on our bullying, harassment, and non-discrimination procedures. Um, the initial work on that has been done

047and um, they're starting to socialize it to understand what an audit would look like and what the options are for moving forward. There's still a few pending responses at last check-in. So, um we're going to try and get all available options before we bring it to the committee. So, I just want to give you guys an update that things are moving forward. There is progress. Um but they still have to pin down a couple of things before they bring options forward for us to consider. Um and then last hot topic is Georgetown. Um just to make sure everybody's up to date, we've been having conversations. Georgetown is entertaining the idea of their students into another district or setting up some other arrangement because of the challenges they're facing right now. We've been collaborating with them

048to think about what that might look like. Um what the approach could be. Bill's heading up that effort for us. Um so work is happening. No major updates right now, but um just want you guys to be aware that that is still ongoing. Um can ask question to that. Yeah. >> So, I was in here at the meeting where we agreed to allow um 15 school choice students in at 98 um this year, this coming year. And uh I don't think it was really discussed, maybe I missed it, but was there any discussion about the Georgetown situation with respect to going to 15 and 9th grade? Did we I can't say that Georgetown students aren't eligible for instance, right? But I I watched the the meeting and I >> didn't see anything and I just

049wonder if I missed anything at all. Was there any >> anybody linking together that school choice vote with the Georgetown situation or was it just treated as a separate matter? >> It I think it was treated as a separate matter. We did sort of touch on like do we need to think about anything with respect to Georgetown, but I do think it's being treated separately. >> That's my interest. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Any other questions before I move to the next? >> Thank you, Bill. >> Yeah, thank you for >> You're welcome. >> Um, comments from the audience. Seeing none, we'll move on. Um, so you all have linked in your agenda a solicitation for subcommittee preferences. Um, there's also a print out for you that kind of outlines what those committees are, what they

050do. Um, so I respect that it might be hard to make a decision on the spot. Um, in our next agenda, we do have an agenda item for finalizing the subcommittee assignments. Um, what I will say is if you guys want to take a couple of days and think about it, if there are any subcommittees that you think should be edited, added, deleted, make a note on there, too. Give, you know, give me something to consider. I think we have a lot to focus on, and I think it's been a long time since those committees really were contemplated, too. So, this is a good opportunity to to think through that. Um, and if there's energy around something, we can decide to discuss that briefly in our next meeting. Maybe we bring it to a retreat

051and have a broader conversation about it. But I just want to give everyone the opportunity to bring some new perspective because we have a lot of new members and and that's important. How many committees and or subcommittees does one member typically serve on? >> Generally, it's two. One of each be two committees and no subcommittee. Like how does it >> it would be like uh generally people are assigned to two subcommittees. So you pick your preferences first, second, and third and then usually we're assigning based on those preferences to two. >> Oh, I see what you're saying. Okay. So it's not as though four are considered above. They're all equal. >> Yeah. >> So typically it's three people on a committee, one from each town. >> Okay. >> Typically sometimes DCI, for instance, might have

052an extra one. There's a lot more going on there maybe. >> Thank you. >> Any other questions related to that? >> Want to mention anything about the leazison roles? >> Sure. >> Yeah. Um so usually it's CPAC the town leaison roles. We're interfacing with the boards select boards and comm that kind of thing. Um and then wasn't there a turf one once upon a time? >> Masco sports foundation. Masso Sports Foundation. Okay. Um I feel like we haven't really had someone in the last couple weeks. >> You guys have been carrying that torch. >> Yes. Okay. >> Um it might be good to keep that. >> I agree. Yeah. >> Um if it's not on there, write it in if you want it. >> Sitting on $100,000 of their money right now wondering whether we're

053going to spend it or not. Right. >> Yeah. What's it? Masco Sports Foundation Foundation. Yeah. Yeah. >> It's a form of turf up. >> Yeah. They they were called Turf Up at one point. >> Um >> Did you say Turf up? >> Yeah, that's what they used to call >> artist. Okay. Now it's it's all tied together now. Thank you. >> Um any other questions? And you know, as you guys are noodling on this, like new members, feel free to call me, ask questions. Um, I can point you to chairs of the subcommittees to answer questions as well. >> Can I just add a couple comments? >> Yeah. >> Um, so just for you that might be interested in in the DCI role. I don't know if the new administration is going to work this

054way, but with the old administration, we typically would have the meeting during school hours. so often either first thing Friday morning or like a Friday at 1 pm or something. So if you you aren't available during those hours and that you know be aware of that. I don't know if that's how that will go this year or not, but that's how it's been the last couple. >> It's a good call out if you have like hard restrictions like I can absolutely not be available on Mondays and Tuesdays or something. Write it down. let me know or text me, email me. >> Policy also had some limitations like that because we meet with the administration a lot while we're going through well we did a policy manual review of our complete manual and we were also

055working with MASC so business hours during the day was more convenient for them. >> Um so historically that's what's been done with that group as well but not always. Yeah, Lisa. >> Um, just wait because when I was on policy the year before you were, we did a lot by Zoom. Did you guys not do >> Oh, I've been Yeah. Yes. My four years I've been here, we've only met Zoom. >> Zoom. >> But it's just during typical business hours >> usually. Yeah. >> For DCI and policy, those two. Yeah. >> Same for community relations. A lot of them like people will organize >> Yeah. >> Quick Zoom meeting at lunchtime or something. But if if you're going into negotiations this year, your negotiations committee is probably going to have some of those >> Business

056hour commitments >> generally after school >> right after school. Yeah. Teachers get out >> the 3 to five window generally. >> Did you have that? No. Okay. It's a lot to think about. So, take your time. Okay. Anything else related to subcommittees? Okay. School committee protocols. You got Do you guys all have a print out of the protocols as well? >> I don't think one was distributed. Okay. >> It is linked in the agenda. um try to share it. It'll flop right. So to give you a little background, >> thank you. Appreciate that. These these protocols are covering how we govern um how we treat each other, how we communicate, what our responsibilities are. Um my plan is to review this tonight. I do think that it's important for us to go through this with

057our new superintendent as well. she would benefit from being present for that conversation. So, you know, I'll entertain how you guys want to move forward if you want to sign them tonight and and agree that like yes, you think this is right and then we can meet with her and walk through it and answer questions and if we need to make any changes, we can address it then. Um, I suspect it's pretty standard, but you know, Lisa, >> remind me when is her first meeting going to be? >> It's a good question. We will have the schedule at the next meeting. I believe Jackie has it drafted. So, we will >> Yeah, but it would be >> after the >> after July 1st, >> the school year at when the new one begins. She's in

058place for the beginning of the new school year, right? >> July one. >> Yeah. >> Um, so Rachel, that's me joining the meeting so I can share on the screen if you see me in the waiting the waiting room. Um, >> recording in progress. >> Silencing that. Okay. So, see if I can zoom in. big enough. >> Perfect. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I know. This is better. >> I know it's a little easier if it's a screen in front of you, but just for the benefit of people at home, too. Um, I'm not going to read this to you guys. I don't believe in that. We've traditionally gone around them each vote, >> but we didn't last year. So, it's okay. I'm not suggesting we have to. Yeah, >> I mean, I will entertain if

059folks want to read these aloud, >> but I'm also happy to just pause on each section and see if people have questions or considerations. I >> think that would be fine. I don't think we need to necessarily read them all. >> Okay. Yeah, I agree. All right. So, how we govern, it's pretty straightforward. >> Any standouts? Nope. How we treat each other, again, pretty straightforward. >> Questions, call outs, concerns, nope. how we communicate. Just >> one thing, the link is no longer active to the >> um chain of command. So, I don't know if that's >> update the website. >> Yeah, I'll make a note and see if Jackie can update the original. >> Thank you. I do think it's worth just paying attention to that second bullet in the how we communicate area because

060as in my role last year um there was a lot coming from the community to all the school committee members and just having consistent messaging going through the chair and the superintendent I think is beneficial to committee. >> So there may be some things that I don't know folks feel comfortable responding to if it's factual. Um but otherwise, you know, everything going through you and and Heather I think is important. >> Agreed. Yeah. And I do think, you know, part of I think Jeeoff made this point earlier of like the school committee has had to kind of weigh into areas that traditionally are a little bit heavier than we would need to, right? We should probably be somewhere on the consulted informed side of a racy chart rather than a responsible accountable. Um, but where

061there were voids, I think the committee did step in to try to pull things along and make progress. So, um, undoing some of that and making sure that the people who are operating the district dayto-day like Brad and the administration at large are getting the communications and have an opportunity to respond to them is incredibly important. So, I will emphasize that point. Alice, >> what is best practice for a chain of communication if we're approached either in person or via email by a community member? So, do you want to speak to the the general chain of command if there's a a parent situation question? >> You like at Massville like usually building, >> right? Yeah. I mean, if it if a parent were to reach out to me as you know, assistant superintendent of student

062services. I'm a head like in charge of the guidance counselors, the nurses, and the special ed teachers. If somebody were to reach out to me and they had not first spoken to a teacher, I would redirect them to or to whoever their sort of point of concern is. So if the school committee is going to operate in the same way, I would expect that it works its way up rather than >> skips to the top and then trickles out. >> Yeah, it generally starts with like if it's a classroom concern, it starts with a teacher. It's a building concern. It goes to the principal and it can go from a teacher to a principal and then from the principal it goes into central office and said once they've gone all the way through that yeah

063they can't have a password. >> So just the basic practice of customer walks in and asks for the manager you don't get the manager you get the person that could help them right direct them to the person that's that's their job to deal with whatever the issue is. >> Correct. And I think, you know, like we're we all work in schools. We all want to help people. We're all empathetic. So somebody walks in, you know, I'm I'm going to probably listen and then redirect to sort of the point of contact or the point not just, you know, take it from up on top and >> right working through it. But >> generally, you take the the pyramid and you invert it and that's usually where you find the right support, >> right? It's not always

064an easy conversation by the way. >> There is a document on the website that outines it. >> And then as committee members as well, should we also bring that to your attention? >> That concern. >> Sure. Yeah. >> Yep. If I can add one thing just the um absolute worst thing the school committee can do is to interject itself into every concern legitimate concern that that that parents have. I mean that's that is completely not our role and quite honestly you know we're gonna we're gonna muck it up more than actually help solve the issue. So the best thing we can do obviously, you know, listen with concern if a parent brings something, you know, to our attention, but directing them to someone in the building and usually it starts with an educator um and

065perhaps the uh the building principal. Um that that's the first place that they've got to start. Um and this hopefully gets issu uh addressed that issue and then it it's handled. >> Great. Great question. So here it says we refer questions and concerns that we receive to the superintendent or chair. So are we supposed to automatically refer it or are we supposed to go to the first chain of command? So like where's it seems like conflicting messaging. So, >> hi. >> I think it's important for you to redirect the parent, but it's also important for you to inform >> Okay. >> the superintendent or the chair. >> So, it's an and yeah. Okay. It's an and we said >> um first the chain of command is it's on the contact us page of the school

066website at the bottom. It'll show you who to contact first. And then just as an aside, last year I would get those emails and I would see who's copied on those emails and a lot of times Matt and Adrian already were. So I didn't do right. It was like, okay, no, they already have this. This is right. This is already my information. I have it. I see they see it. >> I'm not going to then flood their inbox with another here. Did you see this email? >> Appreciate that. >> And I from the point of like I like to know stuff. I don't I don't like surprises. I think it's like you're probably not going to get a lot of action from your like when you let somebody know that you're not part of the

067um like part of the equation where we're going to come back to you and tell you how it was resolved. You know what I mean? Like you're just >> conduit. Yes. >> Trevor. >> And it's it's not like we would be like if there was a specific classroom concern, we're not including the teacher and the parent on an email and connecting them. suggest sending that to the superintendent and chair and letting them >> do that. Generally speaking, unless they write the letter directly to you, right? You >> we just send it up. >> Ignore it or you send it up if you don't see the right people copy. But that's it, >> right? >> Um I mean, election season's always fun. I saw someone posting something about, you know, I like this person because I

068wrote a complaint letter to the school committee and she's the only one who replied to me. And I was like, that's the only one who didn't follow the guidance. >> So, the last thing you want to do is, you know, reply to everything that comes into your into the into your inbox. You just do not want to do that. >> Yes. >> It's too too convoluted. So, >> it's not your it's not our job. >> Yeah. Yeah. My job is >> governance, >> right? Governance. Her fire the superintendent, evaluate the superintendent, set a budget, and set policy. >> We're a we're a board. That's what boards. >> Yeah. >> May we respectfully respond that we've received their communication >> because I have heard from a number of people in the community that by hearing nothing,

069they don't even know if their email was received and read. >> Yeah. >> And I find that personally to be disrespectful. >> Yes. it. So, it gets a little challenging sometimes because some people will take the same email and send it to each of us >> individually too. So, you know, just >> just as a polite thank you so much. >> Yeah, >> I appreciate reaching out. >> Yeah. >> And I will follow up with the >> It is sticky though because you >> just say you just received. Thank you. >> Yeah, >> it has been received. Acknowledged. >> Thank you. Received. >> Yeah. Um I do think best practice is to just check if other people are on it and if they're not board it along and assume that they are going to do

070the right thing with it whether it's reply acknowledge whatever. So um you don't want to put yourself in the middle of course >> anything un with unintended consequences. This is a good discussion. This is important to know. So I'm willing to stay on it. Anybody else? No. Go ahead. All right. What are our responsibilities? This is something that gets a lot of misunderstanding. People think that we have a lot more power and control and authority and access than we actually do. So, bullet number two is the critical one here. >> Yeah. >> Right. Had people coming in here and asking us to, you know, get rid of certain positions last year. fire people, right? It's not our role. We hire the superintendent. It's pretty much it. No. Any questions on this? I see people reading,

071so I'll give you a minute. Good. Good. Okay. So, uh generally we do sign that tonight and file it for safekeeping. Um, I have the copy up here so you guys can come up and sign it. Do we Are we all comfortable with just accepting this tonight and moving forward and we can pull in the superintendent when she arrives and make sure that we're on the same page? >> Pass it around. >> Sure. Yeah. There are clean copies around >> are there? >> I think so. >> That might be better because I notes to myself and Jackie >> didn't see a copy. >> I think they're all subcommittee. >> Oh, yeah. >> Forgive us. Does everybody have a pen? You want me to send one around? >> We can we can work. >> You got

072it. Yeah, pens are floating around. All right, guess I'll stay in the meeting in case we need anything else. All right, subcommittee reports. Um, this is generally where we get updates from the subcommittees. Usually the chair gives a brief overview. Um, Kendra was our community relations subcommittee chair. She's obviously not here anymore. Um, I did serve with her as did Jeff. Um, no real updates. We hadn't we hadn't met, but we do have meetings to approve. So, I tried to put these in the consent agenda, but they didn't make it into the consent agenda. So, we have to do them one by one, guys. Sorry. Um, do I have a motion to approve the community relations subcommittee minutes as presented? Move that we approve the community relations subcommittee meeting meeting minutes as second. >> All

073in favor? >> I >> opposed abstensions unanimous. Okay. PCI budget. >> So my question this is um why are we doing this PCI budget? because we we approved the minutes as a subcommittee already. >> She apparently didn't have these minutes and have them approved. So, we're doing it here because you are forming a new subcommittee. So, the old Yeah, we had a quorum of the subcommittee. It was D and I then that meeting would need and it was where the elections that meeting would have to have minutes approved also. you voting to approve the minutes. If you meet them, you have to >> you can't vote via email. >> Okay. >> Final meeting if it's a final meeting per Robert's rules, you actually technically can. >> Yes. But it also doesn't hurt to just formally

074do it here and make sure that we're on the up and up. So, do I have a motion? Motion to approve the DCI subcommittee meetings of March 13, 2026. >> I'll say do you need everyone's vote or do you need the DCI's vote? >> We're here as school committees. So we need >> because that subcommittee no longer exists because we're here as a new school committee. >> Okay. All in favor? I >> opposed. Abstensions. >> Okay. Jay's abstaining. Uh vocal. Any updates? >> Policy. >> I'll move that we approve uh 3-2-2026 meeting minutes. >> A second. >> Got it. All in favor? I >> I >> opposed extensions. Okay. Any on updates? >> I although I am not the CPAC liaison, I did go to their last meeting in a different capacity and um they

075had asked wanted to put it on our radar that um Jackie wanted to do like a um get on our agenda at a meeting. So just so that's on your radar >> be great. Yeah, >> if >> you need our contact, I can give that to you as well. >> Jackie Dub. >> Yeah. >> And then also that they're open and willing to continue discussions around um out of districts and kind of that we started the work and they were appreciative of us including them on like that survey on why people might be leaving. >> Okay. >> Um so if the committee wanted to continue that, they're open to doing that. >> Yeah. I think um you know as we think about subcommittees and um Jeff for Vocal it might be if Vocal brings people

076to the table for like firsthand updates like if Vocal identifies like CPAC and some other people huh >> that's something we discussed last year I >> I'm just brainstorming like >> I did have One other thing I was at the same CPAC meeting Trevor and another thing that she brought up is that they're currently in the process of having community conversations around a couple of topics that have come up recently here. >> Yeah. >> As well as in other towns. Um not necessarily something that school committee needs to be part of, but maybe something that when our new superintendent starts that she may want to be a part of. And I just want to put it out there that um you know that it's good conversation. >> We need more people to be part of

077it. >> Yeah. >> Um other than this small group that seems to be part of it. Um, I mean, I don't have a child who necessarily needs, you know, services, but I think it's a good conversation for our community to start really digging into in regards to bullying and in regards to other things that, like I said, we don't necessarily have jurisdiction over, but it would just be good to be part of that conversation. >> Yeah. So, it might be good to reach out to her in that cont as well. >> I've been keeping a list of people to connect uh Heather with when she arrives in July officially. So, um I think CPAC's on there. Make sure. Um I'll give a Toppsfield update just so everybody knows what's going on. Um we have a

078special town meeting scheduled for June 16th and an election the next day on June 17th. Um the override is obviously locked in. We top has to pay that bill. Um so that's been accommodated in the base budget now. Um and there will be another um vote on the ballot on the 17th addressing the debt exclusion for um moving forward with the MSBA invitation. Um they just finalized the warrant today. They're literally printing it in town hall and stapling it so they can get it to the post office tomorrow. Um so there's going to be a big push to raise awareness and get some engagement going. Um I don't know. I'm I'll have some crazy ideas for all of you about how we can try to get the word out to Topsfield and and get um

079people paying attention. Um, but I just want to make sure you guys are aware that that vote is coming in the next few weeks. Um, if anybody has other questions, let me know. >> Yes. >> If there's going to be any early voting for this special election. >> I don't think so. >> Don't know actually. They >> know whether or not there is. >> We don't know. >> Like you said, they they're just doing B I mean the warrant like tonight. So certainly no early voting has taken place yet. >> Oh yeah. I just want to make sure that we understand the timeline or that going to be involved in the timeline because I got to be honest when it came to Middleton I got caught off guard. I was I was late like we

080were dealing with a bunch of things here. >> It happens fast. >> And then all of a sudden it was early early voting and I was like oh my god people are voting already. >> We didn't even get a chance to connect with the community on one. So, I just want to make sure that we understand what timelines we're up against was up against with our support. >> Yes, >> we get the word out. >> We'll definitely look into that. >> Yeah, I was at the select board meeting before this >> tonight. Um, and I met with Mr. Mets. >> He's going to try and organize some things. So, I might bring you along. >> Yeah. Expected >> tag team and present. Um, but there's we're going to have to really go to where people

081are to get the message to the menops field and you know the the guide that I shared earlier that I kind of put together for myself. There's a lot in there about the history of how we got to this point. I would encourage all of you to check that out if you have questions. Um, Joe's very knowledgeable. Bill's been the project too. Very knowledgeable. Um, I think Trevor, were you on >> and Matt? Yep. Um, so lots of knowledge to tap into. Ask questions early and often. Um, I have your hand up. >> Um, the Strawberry Festival is coming up soon, right? >> Are we going to put a booth or walk around? >> I will definitely. >> When is it? It's what? I'm sorry. >> 13th. It's the 13th. >> Mhm. 13th. >> Okay.

082>> 13th. >> Have a table. Good. >> I think we can. We actually have a listening session that day at the library which we should just move outside. >> I got a table. >> Do you need a tent? >> Maybe I No, I too. What we need is a banner, which we still haven't done. So maybe I'll talk to Jackie and try and get that ordered. >> In addition to the strawberry festival, there's also the pride event is the Sunday before. I think June >> seventh seven. >> It's the seventh. >> Yeah. So let's make sure we're careful about what we asked Jackie to do and fund with school resources because that may limit will that limit what say or do at the booth, right? with it, >> right? It's the right question to ask.

083There are restrictions on that. >> Yeah, we've been talking about it for a while and I don't know why it got hung up, but that's a good question. >> May just want to find a few parents who want to contribute 10 bucks each and make a >> Can it be privately fun? >> Yeah, we people can do donations in kind donations too. you have to ask a question if you're constrained. >> Yeah. Here's the other thing I'll throw out there for you guys to think about. I think it would be really helpful for us to have some sort of onboarding retreat where we can just get in the weeds on all the things. >> Yeah. >> Open meeting, what happens if this, what happens if that, and just have some dedicated time to do that

084so that agendas can be sort of sacred and we can get through these working sessions. Um, traditionally we have a retreat to set goals sometime in the summer, usually August time frame. Would you guys be open, willing, flexible to do like maybe an onboarding retreat in July when the superintendent has arrived and then use that to sort of inform a goal setting retreat or maybe a dedicated agenda for goal setting or something like that? >> Yeah. What's the timeline for each? A day or two? A week? this. So when we say retreat, >> way cooler than it is >> not thinking there's no spa, there's no well >> sometimes there's sandwiches. They usually like wraps and chips and we have it at the Boxford Community Center at Elm and that's it. That's that's the difference

085is just it's a smaller setting so we can feel a little more connected and collaborative >> and you know like throw some stuff on a whiteboard or something but that's what you mean by retreat. >> But is it like >> okay >> yeah after hours after hours. It's like this committee meeting somewhere else basically you can think of that >> they start a little early like five or >> something. Okay. Couple hours just to kind of get through some things without an agenda. Okay. So if folks have like weeks that they can't do it in July or August, let me know. If you're fairly flexible, that's great. Um, and you know, if folks can't make it and we can't pull it off, we'll deal with it. But >> I just >> think we should. I

086think it's Yeah, >> I think with some members >> think it'd be a great opportunity for you guys. Okay, negotiations, nothing going on, but it's going to heat up fast. So before we get too far off those topics, um the MSBA paperwork that's due July 1st pending the >> approvals in tops of the courts. >> Yep. >> Who's handling that? >> Are you doing that, Brad? >> We still have Mike. >> MSBA project local authorization for schematic design funds. Mike is handling. He submitted the request for the extension and he is monitoring top school outcomes to finalize. >> He's still on it. Yes, mic is still available to us but um sort of an on demand basis and he's monitoring specific things through the transition plan. >> Who is this? >> Dr. Harvey. >> Got

087it. Okay. >> Current superintendent. All right. Yeah. >> I just hear Dr. Harvey, not Mike. So, okay. So I guess another related thing just to throw out there get off of LE because we we don't have formal committees yet. Um the next Boston Conscom meeting is next week. >> Oh, >> and I've been named the nom representative as delegated by Mike. So this is >> okay. What are they officially putting on the agenda? Uh, >> they were voted. >> First of all, you can never get a yes or no answer to a question like that. You should ask, might there be a both? And I'll say yes, there might be. >> Okay. >> They are very skilled at not doing anything. >> There are attorney participating. >> Yes. >> Okay. So I'm just considered whatever

088the sponsor from masking on it for that particular meeting until there's actually a new >> got it. >> Additional context for new members. This is referring to the Boxford Conservation Commission who is pending permission to move forward with permitting on the proposed Turk project that has been in stasis for quite some time. >> Years. It's not even permitting. >> It's not. Yeah, it's >> it's pre-permitting >> step before the step. >> Well, since we're on and just to clue you guys in a little bit. All right, so we have a two field design that was in the final stages of approval. Word was that it was going to get voted down and we agreed to a compromise with certain officials who suggested that would be a better way forward. compromise basically a fall back to

089a one field solution which is what this committee had well a previous version of this committee had voted on the year before that that looked like the thing we could most likely afford. So we're going to fall back to that under the understanding that that would meet consom approval. But in order to do that, the KNSCOM has to rule that the one field solution is outside of the wetlands area. And if it's outside of the wetlands area, which the state has written a memo saying it is outside of the wetlands area and it is not in under the jurisdiction of the concom just a storm water uh drainage permit application and at that point we can go forward with spending the money to formally redesign to one field. Um, and all we're waiting on is

090for them to agree that what the state said is correct. You've got a couple of holdouts that just don't want to do that. So, that's what the meeting is is about. Hopefully, they're finally going to say yes. And if they don't say yes, then there's going to be an appeal. Actually, I have to say no. They say no that it's not in with our jurisdiction, but all right. Any other questions? All right. Consent agenda. Just brief context for folks. Anything that's in the consent agenda. If there's any reason that you want to pull something out of it for discussion, review, or editing, you got to do it before we move to vote on the consent agenda because the idea is we pile a bunch of stuff in there that we know we're going to look

091at. We know is non-controversial. We know we just want to get done in a consent agenda. So, the motion is to approve it and it's approved together. And if we know ahead of the meeting that we want to do something, >> yes, >> it's good to give the feedback to >> Exactly. >> Yeah. >> I'll move that we approve the consent agenda as presented in the agenda and thank the Masco Theater Co- Booster for their donation. All in favor >> I post abstensions. All right. Passes unanimously. Do I have another motion? >> To answer. >> That's good. Um move to ajourn. That's the way I was. >> That's all right. That's okay. All in favor? I >> posted. Okay. Thank you everyone.
