001november 3rd 2021 uh meeting the school committee to order um all committee members that are present please indicate so enroll call mr larry mr dial present mr kearney is not present he is going to be a couple minutes late this is st onge present i am president craig mcclellan we have a quorum we'll start the meeting i just wanted to mention a few things before we get started um we mentioned in our recent message to families that we're working on the technological related issues that we're having with the meetings um we're just trying to refine the hardware and the approach and the format we're also in what we want to be a temporary space right now as we're returning to in-person meetings and uh so we're trying to do our best to deliver the most
002convenient product to everyone so that everyone can come in person we can have our students in person but um but also be able to watch from home so we know that the experience from home isn't isn't the best but it will improve and dr sullivan has something to add no i was gonna say i have high hopes because we have moved reposition things so we're gonna have a better audio and video experience uh this time it should be great so um with that said i just want to welcome um mrs chapman and mrs mcdonald and there are wonderful fifth graders here that will be presenting in a few moments and principal sullivan so sorry and um with that i would i just go into the first agenda item which is the public comment this agenda
003item as most know is reserved for discussion items or topics that are not related to something that's already on the agenda so if you have an issue or comment to share related something that's not otherwise on the agenda please do so now we'll give everyone a few seconds to do that um if you're at home you can utilize the q a feature on zoom to make a public comment and if you are here you can simply raise your hand see if many public comments okay and seeing none we'll move on to the next agenda item which is our superintendent's report i'll turn the meeting over to our superintendent of schools dr patrick sullivan thank you chairman mcclellan and uh thank you boys and girls teachers sullivan and everyone for being here in the audience they're
004excited about our spotlight on students today from from deer hill but before we do that i'd like to invite our superintendent school committee advisory council liaison mercedes o'neil to come on up and mercedes going to give a bit of an update on what was what amounts to a pretty crazy two weeks which we'll talk a little bit about after the students um present but uh mercedes i'll i'll give you the floor to present anything you'd like and then of course committee as you typically do you have a chance to ask mercedes uh questions that you want to welcome mercedes good to have you here thank you good evening everybody um i'd like to share what we're working on our latest meeting in the superintendent advisory council meeting and so recently we have split up into
005groups of three and four into subcommittees and our subcommittee work objective is to gather and present student voice to district and building leadership and to help in creating a plan from a student's perspective to improve teaching learning social and emotional wellness resource and communication and engagement throughout classic public schools and those four groups as i've listed in our objective is teaching learning social and emotional wellness communication engagement and resources and on january 19th we plan to present all of our information that's exciting and that's also involves meeting with a lot of leadership and um some some staff to gain insight into uh you know back and forth about how we can improve those areas and then all getting student voice right collecting the student voice from the student body uh to help us that's a
006major part of our strategic plan so it's really exciting yeah nice that about sums it up and of course mercedes we had homecoming oh yes that was i think that yep we had it in the courtyard and we had a nice dj and we had a really good time it was nice to be with the school all together it was our first event where we we didn't have to wear a mask since it was outside that was also nice as our first time being together without masks i heard it was wonderful the game the game was great a victory uh by the skippers over randolph which was nice to see it was a great crowd and um yeah it was a big rally the pep rally during the day it was really fun it was
007outside we had our the first and maybe last but certainly the first um outdoor pep rally for cohassen high school i was sadly unable to attend that it was great it was really really nice feedback so um that's wonderful and you obviously weathered just the content of the storm okay and yeah that was quite a quite an interesting um situation for us so talk a little more about that again definitely all right that's wonderful any questions for mercedes thank you hey one um so mercedes just checking in any any major problems or concerns or issues or anything like that that you're aware of students regarding anything in the district um i do know because of the storm there are some students that including me that don't have access to wi-fi yet at home at home
008so it's difficult to do our work and some of the teachers are having trouble understanding that so i just want to express that concern we will absolutely communicate that um yeah i am also one of the folks without wi-fi too really wearing out my mobile hotspot quite a bit i can't even imagine my bill's going to be but um yeah it's a it's it was a it was a doozy of a storm for sure but um no we'll absolutely communicate that to principal scott i'm sure i'm sure they're uh they have their minds on that as well is there a time like you stay after a new school wi-fi is that an option it's always an option always so that transportation isn't always ideal but correct sure that there is an i know a lot
009of um folks have students have events after school too that probably the sports i might prohibit them from being able to stay yeah to do work so it's probably an issue of when they get home having trouble accessing wi-fi but i'm hoping that's that's a short-lived thing yeah because i would imagine that we're you know that's it seems like the those are the last lines to come back that's what i'm learning right now that's great well thank you mercedes as always for the update and um mercedes is also wonderful on our strategic plan team absolutely great work yes yeah a valued asset for sure glad you're here as one of the liaisons so thank you yeah i'll let you go and have a great night yeah hopefully your wife is back all right shall i
010introduce our guests please do yes wonderful disney the big event i am going to um let principal sullivan do the honor but i will say that we have obviously some fifth grade amazing fifth grade students here uh an amazing fifth grade teacher and a wonderful meeting specialist and i leave it to our fantastic dear hill principal to introduce our crew so principal sullivan we are so excited to be here today as we've shared we have students we have eleven students from jesus christ fifth grade class and today they are under the tutelage of this is sarah mcdonald who is our one of our reading specialists at deer hill school and she has been really a champion of our spelling program and what that looks like at the upper level and i'll let her speak in
011greater detail to that and also i want to give students an opportunity to introduce themselves to you um before we begin our lessons um [Music] hello welcome guys this is the awesome group from mrs chapman's class that is so nice to come and help me so i don't stand here by myself so we've been working on a new initiative this year called the multi-syllable routine and this kind of comes from this idea that kids need a good strategy for breaking apart longer multi-syllabic words and we found over the last few years that it really didn't have a common understanding of how to do that and so we wanted to give it to everyone in the class and then be able to kind of give a double dose if we needed it so we started this
012and these guys are the furthest the heads so and they're really really into it i think they're going to be in for a treat um so basically the routine is set up into three different steps so the first step is we are looking to identify the syllable type so out of the six syllable types we just identify and we kind of work on whatever one we're working on for the moment so we started with closed syllables then we went to vowel consonant e syllables and then open syllables now that we have three syllable types it gets a little tricky sometimes doesn't it to kind of we're kind of at a place where now we really have to think because we just had one it was like always the same so now we have to really
013be thinking about what we know about the syllable types so what we've tried to do is kind of condense some of the lessons so you can get a little bit of each of the pieces so you can kind of see what it looks like in the classroom um so we i i've put like all three syllable types that we've done up here because we want to show you in step one we're looking to sort out is it is closed syllable is it an open syllable or is it a vowel consonant eight and we have a gesture that goes with each one so what i'm going to do first is i'm just going to be pointing to words we're not going to read the words we're just going to identify the syllable type and they're going
014to give me the gesture and say the syllable type as do it all right you ready all right so we're gonna look at the first line ready so step one do we know what syllable type it is and that's really helpful in being able to break apart a word the next step is we read the syllables and we we emphasize that these are not words they're just syllables so we sometimes syllables and words for example like two t-o is really toe because it's an open syllable so we've been talking about that you know really just relying on our phonics and what we know about the sound symbol so we're going to just read these words together you ready here we go [Applause] what's this one awesome can someone tell me why this is a closed
015syllable why is that a closed syllable trevor um because well the next letter is um so we have one or more than one in this case more than one right awesome there's nobody at that time awesome this one show me just show me the um gesture for this again so we all think it's open so why is this open georgia um because there is no constant closing in the vowel and we just have this one vowel here so we pronounce that with that long sound awesome and let's find here what makes this show me to show me the gesture again for this one that's right so what makes this a vowel content for someone um because the e turns the o from like a from a closed vowel into like an open well it's either
016long or short so long right awesome awesome all right so we go from this stage where we just identify and read to the fun part which is the actual routine you ready here we go all right so we weren't quite sure how much space was going to be between the the main text here so i gave everybody a closed copy so you guys have a close copy right awesome so what we're going to do what's the first step when you see a long word like this the first step is to do what you're writing so go ahead and do that underline the vowels here we go we have two vowels that are knocked together so we know how many syllables are in this word two awesome so where am i gonna break this word ready
017how do we know that can we remember how do we know that this is our newest one right this is the tricky rule i don't know can anyone explain why we know to break it there no because if you break it um then you have the um open um syllable and a close level but if you do it the other way it's a lot harder to say um like two tall when we only have one consonant our first try is right after that vowel right and we have one consonant but what happens there what is that kind of syllable does that become when we break it like that show me with your hands what kind of syllable does that become tl open right so how are we going to pronounce that oh think think about
018how you're going to do that all right so we've underlined the vowels we've split it and ready i'm going to cover this part up you ready you ready to show them what you got all right ready syllable type okay awesome next one underline your vowels where are we going to bridge this word i see that in between these two vowels i have two consonants so what do we do in that page jen that's right let's try that first if we do that what do we got here syllable type that sound would be yeah and the syllable is yes this one syllable type vowel sound syllable next one underline your vowels hmm one two i see two consonants where are you gonna break it paigely that's right so if i do that i cover the slide
019up syllable type that was down syllable syllable type sorry awesome do the next one underline those vowels oh one consonant what do we know about one consonant in between what's our first thing that we're going to try our first thing trevor is what right all right now this one's really fun underline all those vowels i see one two okay three consonants how do i know where to break it look at it carefully you can either look at your paper or look up here how do i know where to break this word between the enemy yes she's got it awesome no one okay it's a whole vocabulary for words isn't it it's like one of those two words i know you have both those words in your head what are the two choices it could be
020[Music] there's blend and the other word is okay so which one is it a blender or a diagram two letters that make one sound so we're gonna so let's let's i'm gonna i can't really cover this up it's kind of awkward all right let's try it so we'll type syllable syllable type when we use nonsense words we have no context and what we're trying to get away from is this guessing what we want we want to use the letters and sounds and and apply that and so sometimes we have really good readers that are not great at breaking apart words we want really good readers that can break apart points so we want to make sure that they have the tools that they need to do that i'm going to ask you to do the
021next column just by yourself at your seat just go ahead and do that while i talk a little bit underline your vowels and figure out whisper read it to yourself so by doing this i mean at first sometimes they're like why are we doing nonsense words well what it does is it does take away that context and you have no i there's no no pictures there's no context so you really have to think about what kind of syllable that is and that helps you when you come to a word you don't know that you might not know the meaning it helps you kind of connect with that a little bit more and so i'm noticing a lot of people starting to use this in their independent reading when they get to work they don't know
022and that's of course what we want we want this to transfer into their into their independent rating all right how are we doing ready all right let's let's underline the vowels you ready start with eat wherever you are let's go back up here we'll do a couple more yeah um i and the f right so if it's between the i and the f i'm left with what kind of syllable syllable type okay vowel sound syllable syllable types no this one looks fun too all right let's underline the vowels and i see one two so that we know is going to look like that so syllable type vowel sound syllable syllable type vowel sound syllable awesome all right what i want you to do is i want you to just with your partners i want you
023to read take john's reading we're just going to partner up like you don't see one thing i want to just read through the last few together just whisper read it with your partner so in class when the kids are doing their own work we are allowed to walk around and we can listen and this is really where we see like who is memorizing and who is really using the sound symbol so when i just kind of go around and listen and kind of like give feedback as kids are working together and that way like i'll sit with the teacher afterwards x y and z you might want to kind of grab them again and see if that's gonna we need to give them themselves a job [Music] all right let's in the interest of time
024let's all come back you ready to read these i'm not even going to break them you already broke them you already practiced them we're just going to read them now okay ready let's look at this one how would you say this [Applause] good very very good all right but again we don't read nonsense words and books do we no flip your paper over if you would but now we're still good at breaking apart words we can pick some trickier words you said to me today you wanted a challenge so i'll give you some longer words so what we're going to do is we're going to apply this to our real words so let's just do the first ones together and then you're going to work in partners all right so look up here underline the
025vowels go ahead and do that on your paper and i see that there are two consonants so i'm going to split it here all right syllable type vowel sound okay again syllable type love syllable awesome awesome awesome okay next one i will do one more together ready underline the vowels i see two consonants i'm going to split it are you ready let's just read it this time you got it can we read this one ready written in syllables [Music] all right now you're gonna notice that some of these have more than one syllable let's skip down to this one i'm gonna underline the vowels oh what do i do here well let's look between the first two we have two consonants to go ahead and break it now let's look between these two vowels like
026two consonants go ahead and break it what's this syllable type [Music] close ready [Music] i don't know i'd much rather use this word than other than another word if i confiscate something from you what am i doing use your lily during the day you might have to confiscate it just like lily's mom confiscated her candy so anything oh no i won't destroy your phone i promise i promise is this what well get rid of take it away take it away awesome all right so i'm going to give you a couple minutes and then we're going to see if we can really give us a couple hard ones over here you're on the spot a little bit so do it yourself and then um parker up and we'll we'll talk some more um this is mcdonald's
027yes maybe you can um turn that screen and for the viewers at home explain what you've been doing yes using one word as an example sure so what we're doing is we are looking at based on our work with the nonsense words we're now applying that to real words and we're saying okay we're going to use the same rules and we're just going to apply them to real words what's happened is a lot of kids have a lot of words in their sight word bank and they just are memorizing them and what we're trying to do is get them to it's great that they know the word we want them to know the word but we also want them to have tools when they get to a word they don't know to be able to
028to break it apart so like a word like this we underline the vowels let me look between the first two and here oh i should be asking them this but i'll just tell you um in between these three consonants we have a blend here so we're going to keep that blend together and so we're going to read that as incline and so when with real words we get into some of the tricky parts when you have like one consonant in between you have you have to be flexible sometimes it comes after and so that's where some of the tricky part comes when we're doing partner work and when you're going around and helping partners you can really target um yeah and some kids get it right away and are kind of natural at other kids
029it's been kind of a mystery how you break apart bigger words so this kind of gets everybody on the same kind of plain field and it gives everybody good strategies for it so how am i doing on time we always have time for literacy so fine i love it it's great so we'll see if we can get some of these harder ones but they're not so hard when you know how to break them apart you might not know what they mean but we ought to be able to break them down and not pronounce them how are we doing is it great look at this row amazing look at that last one i'm curious that's a true insight into what a class is like at deer hill which is an awesome thing any questions yes it
030is all right um [Applause] you feel confident [Music] so where did you break that last part yes so what's the last syllable super hmm but i want you to remember what we talked about follow really follow those rules that we talked about how many constants between where do i create and see if that helps because it's not a familiar word you're not going to really it's going to feel like a nonsense word because you don't really know what that word all right [Music] all right trevor will you ask that for everybody um okay let's look at this what did you notice about this word i want to try to see if anybody noticed this what did you notice about this word that made this like you had to stop and think like how am i
031going to do this no what do you think well there were a lot of sundays a lot of them yes so maybe um what's your notice what are you saying um i've just done this right here yeah yeah um did everyone else have that same problem something else we've been talking about the word study not in this routine but something else you've been talking about about when we put words together because you guys are my worst song champs we'll give you the word son for this ahem will you stand on all right so and then this is the word we're sort of branching off but this is what this is what really happens in the classroom what really happens we've been talking about how we can break words apart using the morphology prefix and suffix
032so i was looking to see did we realize that there was a prefix and a suffix on this word what's the base word guys of this word that's the base where the meaning is ben expect right did anyone break like take these off and just do that part that was awesome that would be a way to do it too right did anyone do it like this on x peck ted did anyone do it that way yeah so there are a couple different ways we have to be a little bit flexible what's the word everybody awesome one more time in this one this is [Applause] right when you break it apart when you just go the vowels at a time so that's awesome you guys did a super awesome job and then next step would be
033we bring this into spelling where we tap out the syllables and we would do like in climb right we would spell our first syllable and i'll spell our second syllable and we only do the things we've done so that there isn't any like oh is it a valid team or not that we only stick with the ones we've taught to try to like build that true spelling too and they've done a really fantastic job on that so i just wanted to hear from the students a little bit about you know how they feel about this routine what do you like about it anyone want to share any thoughts they had about it um start us off georgia um [Music] so she's saying that when she gets to a word in reading that's kind of hard
034and using the syllable type self to break it down which is great does anyone else feel that same way yeah i know we talked about a class um another idea yeah um i think it's a lot like more helpful rather than just trying to guess what it is because when you break it up sometimes like if it was um a word with like um a lot of consonants and i would maybe think of it like i would say it help itself it sounds different because it tells you what to say right it tells you how to pronounce the vowel if you do if you break it apart grace something else um it helps you with spelling and reading because when i get to really long words i don't know i don't all the time know
035what they are and it really helps me and i think we should use it with this strategy too of taking off the prefix and stuff that even helps teddy [Music] some words are just overwhelming right you look at it and say ah i don't even know where to start right and so this does help what about the gestures can someone tell me about that lily uh i think the gestures really help because they help me understand like if it's a vce or if it's closed or if it's long because um that helps me read it better saying if it's a longing or if it's a short end do you think like doing this is helpful yes is there any other reason that this is helpful to you if i do something else [Music] yeah it
036kind of makes sense not there closed open that was fascinating although i feel like i'm saying peace at the time i'm paige one more time they're doing available a great job thanks for having us we're super excited to be here and share with you what we're working on [Applause] do you have any questions school committee for our students or for donald or um before we um we let you guys get a good night's sleep and be ready for more of this tomorrow morning i would because i didn't know any of that we were going to give you a paper but i didn't know any of that so that was really very helpful thank you very much you did a great job is this the routine you use in third fourth and fifth grade or the
037the idea is we wanted to bridge foundations yes great so we have all this really explicit instruction through third grade we wanted a way to keep it going sure right to keep that learning going because um you don't want them to just do if you've invested all this time and energy in that program and then we've had a couple of let's say some really weird years and this kind of helps bring some of that back because these guys are fifth graders so that would have been two years ago they had foundation so this kind of is it's coming back to them they're like oh i remember that a little bit but it kind of helps kind of keep it moving and it's kind of great appropriate for the older kids who are they have phonics
038they just don't use it and they're like meaningfully now they're like oh okay i know that's a long a and you know i don't have to guess i'm like really trying to get away from guessing yep so anyone else okay you guys did such a wonderful job thank you so much you guys you should be so proud of yourself absolutely awesome thank you guys thank you parents for coming out thank you everyone thanks guys have a great night leave them okay okay moving on dr sullivan yeah so well that was delightful it was awesome and um i hope the folks at home could see that clearly i know the angler you couldn't see the uh the board up the whole time but hopefully you could glean what they were doing i think that's uh an
039excellent example of the wonderful teaching we have it at deer hill every day and um you can see how this is mcdonald's this is a great job engaging the students so very very proud of that uh instruction that's happening um i updated a few things obviously we had quite a whopper of a storm um and i hope everyone at home uh is is hearing this and is all up with your uh electronics and that there there wasn't too much damage to folks um property but i i know that you were and uh you know just know that we're you hear mercedes talk a little bit about the challenges that she's undergoing as a student we just want to make sure that everyone knows out there that we're very understanding of any issues you may be
040having because of the storm and we want to make sure that we're flexible in schools and if i can help you or help direct you to any resources please don't uh estate reach out to me or mrs wonka or assistant defender scholars or any any of the principals or any of the teachers for that matter we're really here to help obviously from the school end we had um a damaged basically destroyed well completely used for a press box which made quite a splash on local media and we were just talking about getting new siding on the press box i guess that's not a uh an issue at this point but um you know we're we're looking forward to to rebuilding that and um we do want everybody to know that we have um playoff games
041that are going to be happening and we plan on hosting all of them at home we have uh alternative uh ways to uh broadcast and to to show the score uh we're working on all that so we don't feel like there'll be any direction but that was a that was a real loss for these who's the press box it's too bad i feel like no one really talked about the press box until it was destroyed so it's like one of those examples of you never know what you have until it's gone yeah i mean it was it was surreal coming in i did drive in that morning and seeing it on on the ground it just it didn't register to me that that was there it was a very odd uh thing and uh we
042did have some generator issues yeah our generator at the middle high school did thankfully i have to give thanks to um superintendent and um all of the uh all the folks at hall for helping us we were able to take our food and it was quite a lot that was in our freezer and fridge for the middle of high school and move them over to hall and uh we did i actually had the facilities crew and we moved it over and the whole crew was amazing all uh i i could be wrong making a generalization but it seemed like they didn't lose any power which is an amazing thing for hull which i know loses power quite frequently in storms but um they they were able to uh house our food for about three days
043uh which we're really thankful none of them were spoiled and um we were able to do rara's osgoode food to deer hill because our os get generated we don't have a generator of osgoode that's something that we'll look to get and actually it's on our list again so that we don't have that issue if we want any winter storms it's really no small thing you know i mean they didn't have to do that and um you know it obviously saves a lot of uh money and uh it's um it's really nice thank goodness we're very fortunate to have great neighbors in uh situated hall and hingham and marshfield it's they've been very helpful and we've also you know tried to collaborate with them when needed but this is a perfect example of it wasn't even
044a hesitation they said oh absolutely probably would have been really hard to replace with supply issues right now too even if we had left we have lost it right how nice to have a municipal light plant i will absolutely return the favor when called upon to do so but we're really thankful to them so thank you thank you paul um and uh you know in terms of the storm but i i think we we got through it um i haven't even had a chance to put out in my communications how i go ahead and cancel school but i think everybody now knows that um what i try to do on a typical cancellation is i put it on twitter just a little earlier so those who follow me on twitter will get that update i
045cancel school by being in constant contact with safety officials when you hear me say safety officials what i'm really doing is talking to the police chief often or the the person who's in command during that time period the fire chief and fire chief is often very very much in touch with power issues and power crews and who knows where they might not have power he's very uh knowledgeable about what what's happening in the town in terms of dangerous areas as is the boost change but i talked to both of them and then um i headed dbw just to make sure that all the the factors that go into safety are checked off and we have sufficient power for schools that we have saved access to schools and that means kids walking kids going to bus
046stops that bus routes are safe and uh then everything is plowed out and ready for kits those are the factors and i really need to check off all of those in order to make sure that the school starts and um this this particular storm unfortunately we didn't get close to doing that because the power you know friday i made a call early because i was given a pretty good indication that we weren't going to have power at um at uh sawyer street essentially even though they do prioritize the schools we didn't get caught back in the schools from what i understand until saturday and we were not um very confident in the status of the side roads and downed wires and trees that were leaning and we just didn't i wasn't getting the answers that
047i need to make a call to start school you know we just don't when those answers aren't obvious then we we have to error the sign of caution some base this was not a storm where we could have done a remote uh learning situation which we had done last year but to be completely transparent the commissioner of education has not given us the ability to do that yet he's got to make decisions uh in november which of course didn't help us in october so uh but we wouldn't have been able to do it because this is a perfect example of a storm that even if you do have contingencies to have a remote uh situation so that was um that was that and uh i do want to give just a quick update on um
048some pandemic issues where we are with our account so i'll share my screen now so folks can see where we are with there you go you can see it on the screen too but you'll notice that we did not have any registered accounts last week this week though we do have um we have had four positive cases all of them extra bureau outside of school situations where that's where the it was transferred um no we're still very low on quarantines we did have we have put into place testing stay i i know that everyone at home got the um the consent form with the letter i sent it sort of explaining test and stay and the limitations of testing today what it's meant for and i made it very clear that we haven't had to
049use it up until now well ironically we do a situation where we are using it right now hopefully this is a situation that happens to you in front of a team but we're able to keep our kids in school uh this week that's a good thing and um our quarantine quarantines have still been made extremely low in the district we actually haven't had a phone call for a student yet so that's a good one can you tell us a little more about that about what the test since the that we're using testing so they sent out a yes that's where you wonder what test and stay is no i know what test day is but i thought we didn't need tests and stay currently in our current model we don't we don't it would have
050to be a situation where a protocol wasn't followed and we did have that scenario got it um so really the the thought was to have 10 i didn't see that happening but the thought was that as we move into the winter and we look at things like getting up to an 80 percent attestation situation where we're taking up masks and quarantines might become more apparent because of you know you need two people wearing a mask is that possibility uh that tesla stay could as i mentioned i had signed up before the last school committee meeting i had signed up for it so we just had it in the works and uh so we hadn't we hadn't had to use it we hadn't had a situation to use it uh until this week and it's we
051and the use of that is because protocols were not followed we had protocols it wasn't because of our um our protocols that are in our classroom so the space in the classrooms it was just a quarterfinal and paul remember kids that they're together for more than 15 minutes over 24 hour period uh within three feet then they are close contact so we've been good about keeping them apart and whenever we've had a positive we haven't had anyone who has had a uh standard but we did we did hear that and i think i figure it's important for me to to say that in order to be transparent because i have made the point that we haven't had that um up until now so but i'm hopeful we don't have to use it very often but
052we are all set up and all outfitted and ready to do it moving forward but you know as we look at things like spacing for instance and we start to we can't be in a spacing scenario forever we're going to have to have situations uh going down the road where as our vaccination rates climb we're going to have discussions and the thought of reducing spacing in the building is going to come up and you're going to need some safety measure to keep kids in school that's why i signed up for it and that's when i anticipate really using usually we need those spaces it does give us an extra safety net which is what i said with the in the communication does that make sense tell me my understanding what dr sullivan explained to me
053coincidentally we had had this in the wings sort of as a tool to use if we needed it coincidentally right after that happened we did end up needing it because of a protocol that wasn't followed and because we want to do everything in district power to keep all the kids from their teachers we employed this solution to avoid a foreign team yes but we hadn't had a situation that would have amounted to a tested stay being able to be used until then until until until now and we have and that and that situation is because testing stays not available for outside of school contacts yes it's available for in-school contacts with a close contact person the student is a close contact and it does not show any symptoms and so we're able to take advantage
054of that and that happened at this point because there was a protocol issue not because of a you know a incorrect setup of our program that's correct that's correct yep it is a um you know you made the point that if we stick to the protocols we're 100 safe and we are um because the wheel was basically but you know this was a situation where that didn't didn't work out so we've used the term quarantine firewall someone just drilled a little hole in the wall go ahead and plug off well nothing's ever nothing's ever perfect but um you know like i said i feel good about the fact that we're continuing to keep kids in school and we're we now have uh have more safety was this particular situation a structural issue or just a
055kind of operator error type issue um i think it was more of a um and operate error right is a tough one you know we're all trying to teach the kids we're all trying to get them in situations where they can collaborate and work together and i think it was a scenario well i'll tell you what it is it's two things it's a teacher who's trying to get the kids together to work in ways and then it's also a teacher being as the teacher should very honest about the fact that he's reflecting it was probably a little more than 15 minutes with a particular duplicate and it's a small group but that we want that obviously because we're trying to make sure that it'll be safe and so that's what it is i think it's
056a it's two parts of that well so i uh one thing i would if you would please express sort of my um position as a committee member thanks to the teacher for the transparency uh that's exactly what we need in this so that's that's really helpful and also uh i acknowledge the challenges that they face uh in in doing this i've talked to both my students teachers and it's very difficult so there's no hard feelings i know everyone's trying very hard to to do the right things and having open lines of communication like this is that's very commendable i too are very thankful for the teacher being transparent and um i think that you know we're we're better for it and um we do everything as a team so i don't need anything i'm saying
057now to cast uh disparaging thoughts on any the wonderful teacher doing wonderful things and this is just um a product of our times but i am very uh happy that we're able to keep the kids it shows another benefit that i hadn't thought of uh for the test and stay program which is the inadvertent areas where we have something like this and so now we have a student who's able to come to school who otherwise wouldn't so that's fantastic yep so it is um yeah we're very happy with the prospect of having this expertise i will say the protocols are still ideal though because then it obviously needs to excuse me it makes it unnecessary to test the students well we haven't had any any real situations but you know that's the ideal situation and
058i think that's somewhat rare in the area right so you know i would say that we're we're doing pretty well with them um for sure and uh so i definitely want to uh also update you a bit on our attestation situation because i know folks are interested in hearing that and i will i'll be sharing this information in my thursday report but um so an interesting thing happened as we worked with our nurses to look at the at the station numbers we realized that when we were looking at both buildings as separate entities we double counted and we should have staff who service both buildings so for instance custodians that's a good example they were counted in the middle school count and in the high school count what happens now is that we don't count
059them twice right because there's one building so as we're being looked at as one building they're just servicing one building instead of servicing both schools so as you can see from the note here when people get this report i just want them to know that the overall numbers are the same well with one exception i'll explain that in a second the overall numbers for the two buildings of staff are the same so when they when you look at the attestation numbers but they've been divided differently now because of the fact that we have only one building that we're looking at as opposed to two buildings if there's two buildings we'd have to count certain groups twice because we're looking at them as separate entities the difference between this cow and the elephant is we finally
060had one missed staff member we just missed when we had the original account and then we've hired two cafeteria workers since uh my last report so this is a very accurate account of where we are as of yesterday so our high school again i did break it out individually but it's the numbers that count as numbers together for the high school and middle school you can see that we have of our students i think that's up a percentage point from where we were last time it's very high our staff staff at the station numbers are up and again this is not staff vaccination numbers necessarily and i think it's getting close to what the staff vaccination numbers are it's staff at the station of vaccination and they're at um they're at 76 percent and the
061total for the high school now is 85 but again we can't look at it as a separate entity we have to look at it with the middle school the middle school and again remember we only have 35 percent of our uh sixth graders who will be eligible by january 1st to receive the vaccination although that's going to change they're actually starting some vaccination clinics next week um for for five to 11 year olds but the my point is that in this count no one under 12 has had the chance to get a vaccination and they're at 65.4 percent of the students and the staff is now up to 77 so the total percentage of the middle school is 67 now if you look at the total attestation percentage we're getting close for 77.6 so i'm
062hopeful that in the next you know a few weeks hopefully we will hit that 80 percent and then we can have that discussion that we hope to have back when we thought from a brief moment that the high school was um and dr sullivan what how many um i guess how do these numbers compare on the staff from our last committee meeting they were pretty low do you know if you i don't know if you give me the numbers or just the number of attestations you've received since then so i can look well if you give me a minute forever that'd be terrible okay so i can compare so we had um last time and again the numbers are a little bit off because of that double counting but i can just give you the
063number that had it tested so it's kind of not quite apples to apples but at the high school the um staff at the stations received back when i imported this on october 20th were was 56 and now we have 74. it it's don't worry about the individual high school it's the raw number i guess we could do the addition but and then at the middle school it is um we received 38 and we had it received 28 last time so that so we've received uh 18 in the high school and 10 in the middle school so that's good so they're coming they're coming up for sure um and then as you as i pan down here uh you can see the percentages at gear hill again now it's probably a good time for me to
064talk about this we have uh the pfizer vaccine which is a what i'm told a lower dosage of the vaccine for students i should say children 5 to 11 has now been made available and you're probably all getting the same thing i'm getting i just got a note from cd of people specific pediatrics that they're doing clinics this week coming up you're going to start seeing clinics around your pediatrician will be able to provide vaccines for those of you who want it for your child who is 5 to 11 beginning i believe as early as london and we are looking at um potentially having a vaccine clinic here at cohasset i certainly will have more information on that as we go we're still planning and talks about what that would look like how many vaccines
065would offer and that that would be available so i did put that out there uh there was a letter from the department of health and the commissioner of education just so everyone had that information and that will obviously bring these numbers up as students so that's that i don't know if anybody had any additional questions on these numbers or um you know had any thoughts mrs claire style uh i would just like to you know encourage the staff to continue to provide attestations and encourage you to work with the staff and whoever we need to to reinforce that this is i understand there might be different views on this but for us to get the information we need to make decisions that are best for our community we need them to help us out and
066uh and offer these at the station so um thank you for those who've cooperated and for those who have not had a chance yet to uh to make your attestation please please do so if you're listening if you're not listening please do so but you can't hear me i'm sure they read the minute yes mr kearney questions um my i i have one question about just to follow up from the last meeting i know that mr erlinson had said um some people had emailed the nurses upon receipt of a vaccine in the spring and i shouldn't know if any like if that had been used to cross-check anything um like just a quick little search in the email like oh vaccine and then you can this nurses i know i appreciate that the nurses are
067also extremely busy no that's that's a good question and no it's this these are up-to-date numbers and that includes anybody who had a tesla history okay awesome that's great um i'm also curious in the osgo just as we're kind of entering this realm of vaccination in deer hill and aussie in austin we also house our preschool program and so there's a population that presumably there are children are there children under five in the preschool program or do you can you be four in that program or three three and four three and four okay just think i think we should be keeping in mind i think i i personally will be vaccinating my children i got very excited um about yesterday's announcement but then thinking about each school population you know of course deer hill middle
068school high school all of these kids will be over five years old but we still have a school where there will be ineligible students for vaccines so just something as we go forward you know when we're considering these masking and unmasking decisions a lot of vulnerable kiddos out there so so that wasn't a question i guess that was just a comment that was just my thoughts they're always welcome well thank you for us and we think about you know these are something you're going to have to think about and also all along that line i don't know does anybody else have any comments questions there's a question though from the uh from the public related vaccinations courtney ness 210 lambert's lane do we know if the cases in the middle high school are from vaccinated
069or unvaccinated kids and staff um the cases i would imagine are the positive cases um i i don't i i guess i do know but i don't have that information there there have been um i know a couple of cases in the district that have been from students who are our staff i would say because that number of students and staff so who are um vaccinated so they're having i believe they've been one or two breakthrough cases but i i couldn't tell you specifically if it was at the high school i'm also very nervous about identifying anyone yeah but i will say there's a district i believe you're having a couple of um what you would call brain food cases thank you okay um just to be very candid i'm i'm i'm i'm a little
070frustrated because i'm wondering if you know dr sullivan mr erlinson was here last time at the last meeting yes on october what was it funny and uh he reported that virtually all the staff are vaccinated i think he gave the number 99 um it seemed as though the issue with the attestations was was purported confusion of how to attest but i think by this time it's abundantly clear that that can be done via email yeah to the nurses just to written at this stage so um so you know just just assuming for the sake of argument that prior to discussion and presentation last time on october 20th um assuming that there was confusion about staff on how to do that i i can't imagine there would be confusion now so where they're pretty much all
071vaccinated but we're in still like the 70 percentiles in terms of in terms of reporting do you have any indication as to what what what is now because i can't imagine confusion is the reasons you know what the reason is now that the teachers are not contesting no okay they've said last week well i thought they said they were confident they said they didn't want to share that information because they felt that it was going to be used to unmask the school and they didn't feel like that was a safe environment you said a few things what i heard i heard i mean i i heard that i heard that was a thing okay i heard what you had mentioned earlier that somebody tested in the spring i heard a bunch of different reasons um
072i i can't tell you why all i know is he did say they were all vaccinating except well 99 i believe he said and then the attestation certainly doesn't match that so you know we're we're working we're working with them remember a requirement of an attestation so requirement to have someone make an attestation would require us to bargain with diseases so just just know it's it's not it's not as simple as it's just not necessarily okay um thank you but just follow up on that i imagine but just uh just for the record uh following up that means did you send a communication to the teachers clarifying the process by which they could submit their attestations so that it's i said you keep clear okay so everyone knows how to do it yeah everyone knows
073that we're asked that the school needs them to do it so i've said four communications yeah so it should just be now getting around to it then unless well like i said i don't want to conjecture as to what it is that there were a bunch of different reasons provided i don't know i mean maybe maybe i i just i don't know i have no idea you know i guess to to miss ange's point if the teachers do the the avenue for discussion about safe work environment is to have discussions with the administration with this this committee not to willfully not participate in data gathering exercises that we need to make decisions so i hope that's not the case that it's not a strategic move to try and limit the ability for the district to
074respond to what we need to do to teach our children uh if it is that's a shame but if it isn't then i still encourage everyone to get these things in as quickly as possible so we can uh get on with things yeah we definitely want to be attesting to where we are and then dealing with that you know that fact as opposed to hearing that we're at a particular point and then having attestations no doubt about yeah certainly the vast majority of the staff have obviously tested absolutely yeah as you see the percentages are definitely moving up okay so moving on okay um the only other thing i wanted to mention was about our uh there's been a lot of talk about what we're going to do with winter sports come and we've done
075a lot of problem solving um and we've determined that we're going to be able to move a third move our chairs that are on two-thirds of the high school gym into one-third we're actually going to utilize the bleachers with spacing on the bleachers and we believe that we know that that will take care of the high school and we're going to be able to take the middle school who are really less and less vaccinated in those chairs that are down and so easy to um to do that and we'll be able to have um because we it the other alternative is not to have basketball this major and we're also working i know it's come up a couple times we're working very closely with town weeks to choose so we work with steve attendee to
076make sure that we can outfit them too and that we can leave a lot of volunteers use the desks back and forth deer hill to open that up for them and then they will benefit from leaving those chairs um off of the two thirds of the gym and that will also open up as the weather gets colder on gym classes to lose that area which i think is a is a good positive move in our most vaccinated building so i'm happy with that and i think uh it keeps our operation flowing nicely and it also uh provides the basketball groups the ability to to get to to use that space in a timely fashion where they haven't missed practice or anything or games i feel good about being able to do that and we're looking
077at a november 15th time for that which is right after not receiving interest but you leave on the 11th mention tonight i don't know committee any questions about that i think that's great um if i can speak yeah i think that's wonderful good job um we're going to be able to accommodate more like a wreck as well right for weekends and you were able to work dear hill as well we're gonna we're gonna give it a try yeah you know we we we uh we'll we'll help and we'll do what we can to you know they're they're gonna they're gonna move the desks we have a plan in place and um full disclosure i'm a coach and i'm excited um this year this year to have at least some some time for the kids go
078so anything you guys done as well well appreciated um because that attendance is actually down a little bit with with basketball and um so this will kind of encourage the younger kids especially on that saturday just get them out of the house um anybody's listening out there it's a great program yeah it's a two-hour uh event usually on saturdays and hopefully that you will keep it strong and thank you again yeah we appreciate the patience of the community too you know these these matters are important but we're very much trying to be thoughtful um looking at the data making sure that we're in a situation where we feel we can we can move things safely and you know we are at that point so i think it's going to work out awful best that's it's
079a happy ending in this instance it was nice it was so we could do that yeah i'm always going to be able to do that but you know we were able to find a solution in this case so yeah um i just want to know if anyone at home is having trouble uh we don't have anyone in the audience physically present so anyone that is watching is watching virtually so if you're having trouble hearing let mrs cleary know with the q a feature okay and everyone here if you can project and keep your voice up because i think we get used to sort of talking together like this and it's maybe a little bit hard to hear yeah okay um thank you guys and i just want to know that if anyone sees me on
080my cell phone it's the only texts i answer are from parents during this her family so that's what i'm doing i'm not checking the weather or you know the local game score or anything like that so everyone knows i'm just talking like because people can see me doing it um at home i don't want to seem disrespectful we're going to juice on our mic oh resolve that problem in a minute so um dr sullivan aside from miss owen's portion does that conclude the superintendent's report it does it doesn't okay well there's a lot of information thank you for that thank you and uh i just want to note that uh how many hours um dr sullivan and his staff spent um but especially dr sullivan in um assessing the situation the school throughout the storm
081uh dr sullivan was working like 24 7 to ensure that there was any power the kids could be in the building they would have been able to and it was uh it was an impossibility to do that so um but but dr sullivan um was very attentive to that and very sensitive to the issue that kids would be out of school and so i want everyone to know that because i got to see firsthand how much dedication was uh was applied there so with that said thank you dr sullivan um miss owen do you have a report i do have a brief report all right pat do you have it to put up or you want me to share it um so it's just a brief initial overview of of the capital and the request
082that the administrative team and the supporting you know building building staff put together what what they were looking for obviously it's the first time that school committee's seen it so we'll be seeing it quite often um the list is up there now the numbers in the red um mean nothing and i'd say it just numbered um but you can see we met as a facility um a facility subcommittee um and they need they wanted us to look into cooling system for the mill in high school whether you know some type of way of cooling down the schools so the temperatures aren't so hot during you know certain rooms certain times of the year um facilities put forward a feasibility study first we have to have you know them come in and do a feasibility study
083to find out exactly what what the study is going to consist of and then we have to go into the engineering field um so the 10 000 is just a ballpark of a feasibility study for that um hopefully we're going to move forward with that the second one is the middle school high school paging zones um which is an i.t um project the i guess some of the zones are not working correctly they want to upgrade um and get a better system in place and then we've added what is a paging zone zone land style please come together so you can pay different parts of the building okay um so so there's times that we can't hear downstairs because we're not in that zone high school has their zones um so it's not working effectively
084basically um the the third one on the list is replacement of furniture i um we've agreed we're going to leave this on from year to year to year just to keep it in a cycle of replacing our furniture because some of our student desks and staff desks are duct taped some of the lids are broken slam children's fingers some of the cabinet doors don't work so you know we ballparked in about 60 thousand dollars per year to just start rotating um a furniture replacement they replaced the cove face in the gym entryway in the first and second floor um that's been on the list for several years um facilities agrees that the cove base definitely needs replacing they're not certain that the floor is actually ready to be replaced so if the floor is not
085there that's why the reoccurring replacement of aging chromebooks um the least for those which is another i.t issue same thing it's a cycle and then it odds good um for anyone that knows all it's good they have that beautiful gymnasium with these giant windows all the way around um but for a you know a shutdown situation or a lockdown situation it's not ideal because if everyone goes to the gym anyone can see everyone in the gym um so we're looking to add some automatic there's some like electrical work that has to be done it's an automatic shade that would come down you know with the press of a button um or a switch that could then close the gym off so intruders or um potential danger cannot see what's going on in the gym can
086i ask the question about that before you move on would that be activated by the office when the lockdown is called or would mr dykas have to go do that or whatever i just assume he'll be there forever and ever um it's probably i don't know that's it it just seems like it should be activated by the office like let the teacher take the kids to their safe zone the office probably one yeah that's a good question or both right right obviously in an alice scenario you want the teacher you're in that control but the office should be able to like check it it's just a question question um definitely we'll come up you know when we start the process of looking into what exactly we need we do have camera angles we've seen offices
087so that's important too so it's very important to have an office be able to do that yeah it's nice to be able to override yeah so at deer hill um we retired some of the common areas of the for those floors i should say um the principal would like to start seeing some of the classrooms retired um just to get the school back up you know up to standards um and looking better um to follow suit with what we did this past year in the common areas in the hallways the osgood school has some leaks at times so we have some ceiling tiles that need to be replaced facilities does replace some of them but she would like to exactly try to do a classroom at a time so they're consistent because they will see
088pictures later they're different colors they're different sizes can you go back a page it's okay where did it go with the summary there's one pad here we are so that that's the odds good um talking to um mr rotundy the athletic director field lights um you'll also see more detail on field lights we have oddball feel lights we have different colored light bulbs we have light bulbs that don't work i did see today the the big lift out there obtaining our light bulbs so um they are working on it but to go along with our new track and turf next year um the athletic director would love to see an upgrade to our field lights and also a new scoreboard for the alumni field would be great the scoreboard we have is very outdated it
089doesn't it doesn't do a lot of the things that some of the different games need now with penalties and things like that so an upgraded scoreboard would certainly chop off the field the press box is not here or there the insurance company was out today um so i've been working with them they basically saying it's completely covered um items that were inside will be covered so we're gathering information and quotes of what actually was lost they came out today and did some measurements to see exactly what what needs to be done what we're looking for is no one seems to have pictures of what the inside of the press box looks like um so if anybody has pictures of the inside it's beautiful mostly right if anybody my favorite part was the overstuffed furniture yes
090those people looking for pictures even even from the outside um i wonder if sean galvin has some so i know you know athletic director attendees is looking for pictures from i guess someone that takes lots and lots of pitches but nobody really takes pictures of the inside so we don't really know what it looked like and how much equipment is really gone um so that's definitely on our list um the middle school a lot of the locker mechanisms don't work so the students aren't using their lockers so um principal mills would like to see the the lock is updated so we can actually use them he also has install an ac heater split for the middle school health clinic right now there's currently no ventilation there's no windows there's no air in there um so
091he wants to get something done with there they're really not sure what remember it's we had made a clinic we made a separate nurses area those are up high and they're not very serviceable uh usable there's apparently like a filter in there though well there's a pediatric yes i mean well there's there's air moves in there and there's a painting that disappears no they they have it's not it's not the greatest thing there's no system a window it's not really it's more of an air conditioning issue right okay um mr mills would also like to create a hallway at the middle school to access the bathroom in room 223. i don't i don't have a whole lot of details on that um facilities has looked into that they're not sure if it's going to be
092a structural issue or not um i guess there's not a direct access the hallway to that room the classroom one of the issues with the middle school is the location of staff bathrooms too which are just not accessible to staff during that i mean it's very difficult for them not well designed so i'm sure this has when it was built people weren't hydrated no one drank water it's just just a design flower in that particular building yeah correct the athletic director would also like to purchase a minibus um to get teams back and forth to their practices and games right now we have a lot of trouble getting bus drivers as everyone knows we don't really want to have to call the national guard to drive our students to games so he's looking to get
093a mini bus for athletics department and get a driver to do so or the coaches could actually drive it as well is that enough for a new minibus is there like a quote that he he had given me yes i was surprised by that too roll down window i don't roll down windows so does that not require cdl i mean i don't believe so sweet i think that's very inexpensive 30 000 my truck cost me double that i mean that's you probably have like super trucks yeah but it's a mini bus i mean there's got to how many people first of all don't we already have a van type of thing bus we have a van that carries seven seven machines yes could yeah could we lease that because i gotta just look [Laughter] so
094short collaborative i mean uh southeastern would we be better off just leasing it just add another one to the lease i mean that's 30 grand that's just you're not going to get anything for that that's going to be safe but i did questions that's that's just not a realistic figure honestly it's just not 30 dollars that's high-end it's not it's not a full-size school bus yeah it's a mini bus but like i said we're going to make sure it's safe i mean i think we can trust the figure and if anything right with quotes anyway so we'll find out exactly cassette tapes to play in it have some looks great the last two things have been on um the capitalist it's more of a dpw um issue or i should say job um the asphalt
095road from pawn street needs to be resurfaced and the replacement of the sidewalks and the curbing on the entryway to the middle of high school mean we've all seen it we've walked it run over it's correct um so so that's basically just in a nutshell the first go at the capital of what what people looking for um last year we got quite a quite a bit i think we're up at like 1.8 million so probably the most we've ever received in a very long time so i mean for myself it's nice to see that you know the numbers if numbers down we still need lots of things but 831 000 is a big difference from 1.8 can you refresh us on exactly what the requirements are for the requests that we make from capital like
096what the like they have to be a minimum of ten thousand dollars and they have to have a life span of at least five years um but like specifically they have to be in what category like we can't obviously pay for staff for capital we can't pay do you know what i mean can you just explain that so it's more of a staffing can't be paid for that but it's more of a material um right you can't pay for a service you can right you can't pay for a service it's going to be um um we also had to present the 10-year plan which is in the packet that also is very preliminary to go through um but you could you see on there um i sat with facilities and went over the facilities that
097we were going to need the roofs and different things needed to be um you'll see blipped in there just as a holding spot as a new school um ballpark figure obviously um but just so it's on the right 95 million right just what's on the radar there's a big jump from 2024 to 2025 there i agree more with that figure than the school bus so i mean i don't know if there's any questions on the capitol we're scheduling a walk through in a couple weeks um obviously this list can change this is very preliminary at this point so um knowing that are there any questions on us just have a question was it last year that when we were asking about sidewalks and curbing it was kind of pushed back was like well it's a
098plowing issue and then they were looking for consistency and plowing right yeah they talked about the grant they put their grandstand which is a lot of more durable it's a great question correct that's why do it and then it'll chip up again right the new one that they did out in the middle school has that uh the granite granite yeah okay it just didn't get put forward through the deep okay it's actually a dpw okay um got it um this may be a simple question but i get to still play the new card at least for the first year uh where does this money come from is this our school capital budget does this is relation to the town i guess who does this request who's this request made to and who writes a check
099it comes to the town it does come through the calendar there's a capital um budget committee that reviews all these um requests from all the different departments they have i don't say a bucket of money um but you know they have a set of they have they have they have a bucket they have they are very kind to us they have funding um but some of these fundings are borrowed they're bonded so it's some of the money is borrowed um and on you know 10-year funds type of thing um that's something that on the town side they kind of figure out what we're going to borrow what we're going to pay out of free cash type of thing i shouldn't say the bucket of money but um whatever the capital committee has and their funding
100thank you anything else yeah i have a bunch of questions um so early though don't forget i get that um first of all thank you for putting this together this is fantastic uh one of the things that we've been talking about too is uh we'll go right down to write down i'm glad to notice the field lights because it's funny i was at the game the other night and i saw someone missing and i was like what is that like just to see that you're on top of that that's fantastic the other thing as far as the scoreboard goes and this is the thing that i've been seeing and i i don't know if we can have a conversation about it or at another time but you know it just seems like the velocity and
101and is always like top priority where the other schools like milliken doesn't have a school freedom field doesn't have a school board those two meet school blues as well so i'm a little surprised that they're not in there because they don't even work and we don't even have one at the milliken so 75 000 i'd like to see all the scoreboards in all of our talent fields fixed because it's kind of embarrassing going to a jv game you don't even know the school so they don't even have like a scoreboard at milliken the baseball scoreboard needs to be replaced freedom field needs to be played so i'd like to see all the scoreboards to be replaced so we could do that so and and quite frankly um freedom field would be about five to ten
102thousand wouldn't be a lot of money and the milliken field scoreboard can't be more than five to ten thousand dollars so remember too i mean you know these are capital improvements to district property so some of these if they're not on district property it wouldn't be coming out of our budget right is this on well some of the fields could be from the town yeah but the only problem is with when i speak about freedom field it it now is one of the schools fields where before it wasn't so it's it's it's not a lot of money if and honestly if we say to the parents that we've wanted that funded from the parent zone but i would i'd really like to look at the school books because i think it should be for all
103the schools um you know if it's three four thousand dollars can is that that revolving account pay to put um a scoreboard somewhere right and and to be honest with you that that is such a the scoreboard it's been there for 1997. the other thing you can do is you get um advertisements some companies will actually yeah we don't want to do that though pay to put put the scoreboards in um so but that's a thought um but all right well we're not that's i think we we're all in agreement with that i think it's state law that we don't advertise anybody's advertising and there's different ways you can go about it but yeah i hear what you're saying the other thing is too i thought we had and if we did this we wouldn't
104even have this problem and mr sullivan i'm sorry that you had to go through it again you know working well at the generator i thought we were going to buy a generator for osgoode well we do have that on i thought it was going to come out again i don't know where we are in the process we were going to use some of the so food service yeah the resolving account food service is going um i'm just waiting on the facilities department to get several quotes on what it's going to what it's going to cost before we can move forward with purchasing it okay the sooner the better especially like we talked about like food costs and and keeping that so that i'd like to see that on here if we could as a well
105this wouldn't be a capital oh so we can get it from the um okay so okay all right but we really do need to get it before the winter hits yes yes that's why i'm bringing it up the other thing too is what about has anybody done a walk through through the locker rooms at the high school they're pretty pretty tired is there any plans to i mean my kids would never even take a shower there well never mind i mean not that's very important but we also have uh pretty much unusable lockers about most of the high school for now but i mean sooner than later we're going to open those back up so i mean we could probably talk about that at a later time but the locker rooms are definitely something the
106other thing is what what are we going to do with the cafeteria we had talked about uh ordering new stuff and what what exactly she's actually she's actually got two quotes now coming through from some food service companies i don't i don't have the specifics of what type of equipment it is um i know some of the equipment is not up to par at the high school and i know it i think it's dear hill i'm not sure i'm pretty sure it's deer hill that keeps setting off the alarms because the oven the overhead fan isn't turned on when they start cooking so that they're looking at redoing that um piece of the kitchen so as soon as the ovens are turned on they'll overhead fan automatically turns on it's not an optional um hopefully
107that will eliminate the alarms going off okay and then also too is that we're going to do the rest of the water fountains as well those yes those are already in the works that's i'm just waiting for facilities to get it done awesome awesome i think uh and then uh yep okay awesome okay thank you mr journey remember everyone can contact mizzou and offline as well and and discuss these things so um we're going to move on at this point we have a question that's right please kristen quinn 219 sawyer after the parkland shooting i sat down with lisa farrell and law enforcement to talk about the windows at osgood especially in the back after that event my heart sunk looking at potential sitting ducks in the back row after parkland i sent my child
108to school in fear of those black back classrooms i realize this is horrible to think about but hugely important to be prepared given the child deaths that resulted out of school shootings thank you [Music] okay well i think it was it's more of a comment than a question yeah i um i don't know what that refers to exactly and i would check with uh pixel apparel i'm assuming that it was whatever it was it was i think it's the references to the windows on the second floor of osgood those windows are are like right in the back of the school like you can see into the classrooms from the back of the school right yes they're on the ground level oh the ground is oh it's true of the also the front ground level like
109that's yeah well i think the point here is similar to the point about the cafeteria windows both gymnasium windows sorry that's what i meant yeah so there are curtains on exterior windows that as a part of a lockdown drill curtains are put down doors are locked and kids go to their safe zone more about life i just did one than i did the time and it's super cozy but i think also we talked about the security measures um i think mrs quinn reached out to miss owen or dr sullivan um to ask about that i i'm a little uncomfortable talking about like uh safety protocols and such in an open meeting so um it's important for sure and um oddly enough school shootings are kind of an in-depth indirect reason i was i even got
110involved in the school committee it's like it's a really i hate that issue i mean everyone hates it but it's it's frightening to think about um so i get it but i think best best addressed outside of me okay mrs points to reach out to us with those concerns so we can discuss it a little bit more candidly um not us but the school leadership okay anything else on that miss clearly okay moving on um miss owen that concludes that preliminary update okay thank you dr sullivan the superintendent's report is included correct it sure is okay so moving on we have a uh wonderful student services update to be given uh by our director of student services uh mrs barbara sri lanka turn the meeting over to mr walker this time thank you so good
111evening everybody i wanted to report out on a few things um my my first reporting out is directly connected to our communication and engagement compass point in the strategic plan um you know as i've said before we heard from families about some of the information that they wish shared so i wanted to speak to a couple of those things one is in regards to our mtss program that is our multi-tiered system of supports and um all parents in the district received a letter directly from their principals the principals and i worked together on a similar letter between schools and levels and that letter went home to parents and what it did was it was an introduction letter to mtss as the process in the elementary schools it used to be called child study team and
112at the middle and high school level it was called the tiered support team but they're all calling them the mtss teams now and those letters explained the process and the tiered supports and of all of those things so that is one piece of parent information and engagement that has come out and really kind of made all families aware of this really important process of supporting our students you know no matter where they're at and i hope everyone found that really informative and very beneficial and we look forward to continuing to grow our mtss process and by growing it also growing the communication around that and that's an example of the letter that went out um some of the principals put it on their school letterhead instead of the office of student services letterhead and signed
113it themselves which was perfectly fine to do and um as you can see it explained what mtss is it explains the different tiers and um it explains kind of the outreach that will go on for that and if people have any questions how to get in touch with people so that's one of the um points that we said that we were going to move forward with and um so i just wanted to share that with everybody that that has gone out from all of the principles another piece of information that i said that i would be sharing regularly at school committee was our iep data and we have our iep data for the month of october and um what this is going to show is it will show us the number of initial evaluations that
114we had with students and what that source of the initial evaluations was it will also show us the review meetings that we have had and the number of meetings that we've had to date um what i can tell you about it is that in terms of initial evaluations for students in special education that we have had seven total for the month of october um four of those initial evaluations came from parents um three of them and there is september and therefore scroll just a little bit more please superintendent sullivan there is october um you can see that four of those initial evaluations came from parents three of them came through our already existing mtss process as had the original initial evaluation in september um and out of those initial evaluations six of those students were
115found eligible for special education services one was found not eligible and if you drop down to the reviews you can see that there were eight elementary reviews there during the month of october and eight at the middle school high school level our total number of meetings for october we're 23. and um that is the information regarding that all right is that is that 23 the sum of the parent all right i guess what does the 23 meetings represent so there were um seven initial evaluations and then there were 16 reviews during the month of okay so just the sum of those left two columns exactly got it yep is that about normal or is that it is actually and it is um you know it's a little bit kind of of a flexible number because
116reviews and re-evaluations go on all year long you know back if i'm old several years ago it used to be that the preponderance of review and rally reevaluation meetings for special education were in the spring but they're spread out across the year so it just kind of revolves as they come up all right miss one other question are you seeing um any change in either students looking for are seeking um special services as are or otherwise as a result of the pandemic and and prior years of like alternative schooling i guess i'd call it so i would say that um we have had a lot of requests i believe compared to last year um in terms of the initial evaluations at this point in time a lot of requests have come in but we're moving
117forward on those and you know really taking a good look at students especially coming off of last year and what their needs might be but i would say that it's it's a little bit higher than than we have usually experienced um another piece of communication engagement that we put out if you recall was we said with every iep we were going to be sending out a parent survey we have been getting some of those parent surveys back out of the number of surveys that we have gotten back so far 83 percent of those surveys were positive responses um of those 83 percent 88 of the students and the highest rating that they strongly agreed with most of the areas that they were asked about in the surveys and some of the comments that parents have
118given back were that they found their teams or their meetings to be supportive to be caring and that they feel like they were communicated with clearly throughout the process so those are very nice things to hear however it's important to say that the surveys that were not positive we consider those very carefully we really see them as areas of learning for us and areas in which we want to grow and really reach out to all parents and make sure that they have good positive experiences with us so we do take those surveys very seriously and under consideration and use them to continue to develop and improve our process um if i could move into what i really would consider connected to the social emotional wellness and the resource compass points of our strategic plan i
119believe that i've spoken in school committee before about our bright program at our secondary level the bridge for resilient youth and transition which comes out of the brookline center for community mental health we have had a bright classroom in district i believe since about and a very basic membership with the breit program this year we expanded that membership to really have a core level contract and it gives us the ability to work much more closely with the people from bright and work on things like our mission statement the program plans transition plans use them as a network service our bright bridge classroom is off the learning commons and right now it is staffed with an academic support person and it has been supported by the existing school psychologists and school adjustment counselors as they are
120able to do so what really is an important and integral part of this program is that there is direct clinical support to the program and as such we intended on using some esser funds this year to hire a 0.5 social worker to help us support that program and also support the middle school and high school as well the challenge has been getting a very robust pool of candidates for a 0.5 position we have posted for this position twice both times we have not gotten a plethora of applicants and the pool of applicants while it has been small the ones that we have reached out to to conduct interviews even though the posting is for a 0.5 position upon an outreach they will then ask is the position full time or is it going to be
121full time and then they withdraw from the process [Music] so my ask tonight is that the school committee consider committing allowing us to commit an additional thirty to forty thousand dollars to hire a full-time social worker i really feel that posting for a full-time social worker is the only way that we are going to really get a more robust candidate pool really get us the needed clinical support for the bright program and for the middle school high school as a total and also what it's also going to enable us to do is to move forward with one of the areas i heard was a focus when i was interviewing initially for this position and that is to build programming within cohasset and to be able to maintain students who might go out of district within
122their community schools here in cohasset we are seeing an increase in the past two years in the category of students identified with emotional disabilities we are seeing an increase of students who are receiving counseling support and if we were to be able to move forward at this time with a full-time social worker i believe that it would be able it would enable us to potentially open a therapeutic program at the high school as early as next year so that is my experience with um you know the way i hoped to grow bright and the social emotional and mental health services at the secondary level and that is my ask for tonight it also will be you know it's something that was very high on our list as we talked about our needs moving forward so
123it an accurate term it's a great use of funds to establish uh safety network kids so what are we asking for are we asking for s r funds or are we asking for more questions we currently committed to putting aside some of our s or funds and when i ran into these two postings for 0.5 with no success um i i did you know reach out to sue owen and to um superintendent sullivan and said you know is there any any room any way that we could make this a full-time position um and you just heard that superintendent sullivan supported this you owen supported it when i came to her asking her about the budget so i am bringing it to the school committee tonight yeah where's that money well why don't we so first
124of all mr wong are you does this is that request to complete your report or do you have a report it does okay so having completed mr walker report why don't we go around and see if anyone has any questions for her including questions regarding this request mrs cleary uh my the question i have i think is from mrs owen where does the money come from in the budget so it can come from everyone speak up even if they're sitting next to each other okay it can come from areas where we have savings from hiring still as i reported in last month's budget report we estimated about 140 in savings and we're up to about 240 in savings um there's also been several new grants that have come through for special education that we could
125also offset some of the salary to so what mr swank is asking is you know permission to add a 0.5 social worker to us to our la school budget but we're going to have to sustain that we're going to have to sustain that so moving forward we feel like next year we can support a 1.0 right that's really what we need to be able to do right so in the esther in the esser grant i think we we asked for two years two half time um so it would it would be a half time this year half time next year and then the following year we would have to absorb the cost so it would give us some time to grow into that i know that's the direction um specialized department is is trying to
126grow our in-house programs so that would be and to reduce our out of district i just want to make sure we can sustain it it's a model of s of funding too yeah we were looking at the formula what we're using for usually we have right now questions but we're not using that at all to help the kids because we can't get anybody and it is something that we want to grow going forward so to me it's a it's kind of a good preemptive to one get someone to to grow it as quickly as we can okay that's it larry mr dial so um a similar question as miss caleri miss owen um and just because i may not have followed it um but with one year two year we have s for funding then
127after that do we have the funding to maintain the extra 0.5 that we have if we make this approval i guess where does that where does that money come from how does that impact our other budgeting and you can't obviously it has to come from somewhere so what's the projection for where that would where that would come from i mean we have several positions that are grant funded from essa right now that hopefully within the second and third year will will absorb into the school budget um once we roll it in when we get our potential inc cost of living increase from the town that number is already in our budget so it just it rolls forward so that you know if we're getting a two and a half percent we're going to get a
128200 raise uh cost of living on that position as well so are we financing this additional money on the anticipation of a cost of living increase in budget i think you said you already found the money it's it's it's more of a reorganization i mean from year to year on what um what we prioritize so as a group we sit down and say no and that's what we're preliminary starting now we're gathering budgets from everyone um and we'll say you know this is what we need but this is what we're getting and then we'll go back through and say okay what can what can we give up in order to have what exactly and that's that's what i'm trying to nail down is we we do have to do we'll lose some flexibility right now
129we have you know the request is approving an additional thirty thousand dollars which becomes a you know sixty seventy thousand dollar outlay a regular outlay because you can't just hire people and then get rid of them you need to commit to them so the question is right now even if we have the money we have flexibility so i just want to understand what we're giving up for this and then that'll lead into a question for you dr sullivan is this if we're going to approve this now and commit to this which is a longer term thing is this the number one thing you'd want for that for this committee to approve versus other needs that the school might have so it's still you go first so the other thing it can do is if we
130can bring in just one out of district tuition i mean some of them are over two hundred thousand dollars right right um you know we'll keep the kids the collaboratives which are much less are 50 60 70 000 so that's that's one child um perfect now if it's an out of of district um residential type position like i said it could be 150 it could be 250 for the year right that definitely would support multiple positions um but it's one of those you got to get you've got to get the program up and going to get the students back in or to even keep the students in order to keep someone from going out which is going to be more costly and i'm sorry i'm still learning all this stuff so what we're saying is
131by having this we're more likely to keep children in the cohasset district and therefore not have to pay other districts when the children move to another district and do we have children who i guess is that children who live in cohasset and then move to another district for services but still so they would not move to another district of services but what they do is they would go to an out-of-district placement such as the south shore educational collaborative or um you know any of the other private kind of schools that we might need to fund yep so we're able to insource that with this new yeah so it actually could be even a revenue or an expense producer long term launch okay that that's very helpful then and in asking for this there are i
132would not create ask to create a program if i did not think that there was already a need for it in the district no that it makes sense and i i i defer to you on that i'm just trying to you should you should ask my family about trying to get me to spend money um and dr sullivan the question to you is you know if we it sounds like there's a very good case here um but from your perspective if we were to grant this additionally is this the the thing right now you'd think would be the the thing we should be most focused on it is it links into what we needed for this year i'd say that's what would give it the jump i mean looking at our strategic plan and looking
133at the collaborative budget process there are three areas that jump out to me one is this this supportive program that gives us more flexibility and ability as you said to keep kids here and help the kids who need the help here second is the math interventionist math special specialist is the computer science program that which we continue to build uh vertically and that's uh that's those are the priorities that tie into australia so and this resource would would fill into the math specialist and the computer science and the all of that well i think those are our three priorities so we're still going to be looking potentially for a math i do believe the math uh interventionists whatever we call it so especially specialists and then we have a multi-year plan to build out a
134computer science for our kids and that involves some current staffing that we can move into positions and keep positions but it could result in additional static i don't really see anything else right now um that we're really looking at we we did a lot of work over the last few years getting a staff particularly at our middle school i felt really good about our middle school from where it was it was very bare bones and now it's pretty good you have some really good services happening for those kids this would add to that thank you it's very helpful mr doyle yes i'm glad if we're going to put anything in front of a math specialist this would be it first first i'd like to speak about the um surveys which i thought was great what
135i liked what i liked and what i heard from you was that you learn from basically the bad ones the the negative ones i mean you take that as a learning lesson so i'm very pleased to hear that that that speaks volumes about um where your program's at and it's it's gone wonderful to be honest i have set this chair and just seeing it get better and better and for you to come here and advocate for something that's not only going to help with social and emotional but it's also going to keep kids in the district which is our biggest goal here and we've always talked about that but we not not only spend on relocating children out district but you know these poor kids are in cars a long time they're separated from their
136families they're not part of the community so anything that we can do to support that keeping kids in the district i think is a wonderful idea you know and like i said i think that and to hit uh our priorities are in place with because math is we are definitely that isn't an issue with along with computer science so it's nice to hear the district that's on on on point here and uh i totally support the the full-time position thank you for securing mrs yeah i'm curious about two things the um the with the negative responses that you got from surveys which are very important to pay attention to yes and i'm obviously not asking you to speak to specific responses but did were there any patterns that came to light or was it very
137family specific um it seemed to be very family specific there was not any pattern that i could see yet but it's still very early yep and there are um you know minimal i'm not going to say that every single iep has come back with a survey they have not off so it's a small pool right now but it will continue to grow and i'll continue to report on it thank you i'd just love to hear about any negative patterns just because obviously that's what we want to be targeting and and be discussing it explicitly and be transparent about it without obviously revealing anything about any personal family concerns the special ed grants that are available to help cover this potential salary are those grants that happen year after year are they unique to this time
138someone year after year um and each year they they seem to take away two or three uh-huh put back two or three new ones or put in two or three new ones um so like we lost two from last year this year but then she just gained two more so so there's a sort of special advantage okay just as long as that you know if that's a part of what could be funding this if that's something that we see consistently so if it was a pandemic anomaly right and we would not use something that looks like it might be a temporary grant to fund a salary yeah which is which is important okay and it i think i know the answer to this question a school social worker is on the um teacher pay scale
139right like they're coming in at a step and moving steps and columns so in theory a really highly qualified person could also come in at a lower step and not be at a very high salary so this could be more than we need and we will pay them where they okay right we're going with miami they could yes yeah yeah i mean we want the best candidate right it would be like one of our school adjustments oh yeah i just i'm familiar with the school social worker term so yep yep okay thank you uh does samira have a question mr clary uh cassie muir 40 red gate lean thank you barbara for the student services update for the school committee to note november is cpac awareness month in the state of massachusetts and on november
14020th the zakim bridge will be lit up yellow to show support of c-packs in massachusetts fantastic smear anything else from the community alison ryan 44 howe road how much is the district spending now for out of district for social emotional needs that we are hoping will then stay in district it sounds like we would also need a certified teacher for this type of classroom to have a high success rate so i can't give you a number of the amount that we are paying specifically for social emotional students who are going out of district for a couple of reasons one is because i don't have that number in front of me and another is because it could be identifying it's it's a hard ass um but what i can tell you is that the rest of
141the staffing that would be needed to start a therapeutic program already exists so i would we would not be asking for new staffing beyond the social worker because when i look at this the current staffing and the way students are being serviced and and that goes for both teachers and esps um it's not a lot of reconfiguring it's a small reconfiguring and refocusing of how we are arranging and supporting these students and it uses existing staff it would include a certified teacher it will include a certified special education teacher with a high focus on social emotional support okay thank you mr cleary teddy okay um there has been a request from our director of student services to authorize the expenditure for another uh social worker position so um i'd like to ask your questions for
142her responses uh are there any motions to that effect on the floor i'd like to make a motion that the school committee approved funding for a 0.5 social worker additional 0.5 so okay the motion has been made by mrs cleary to approve the request of the student services department um mr kearney has seconded the motion is uh all in favor please look at his own roll call mrs clary hi mr dial hi mr kearney hi this is st hodge hi hi craig craig mcclellan that motion unit passes so that much is approved mr walker thank you so much so much thank you thank you please keep us updated on that hiring um any finance issues [Music] no like any other questions or can we let suka oh um i i think let's just keep sue
143for a few more minutes yeah okay and then we'll let her go so um pretty quickly um so school this is the next section of the agenda we're moving on to is the school committee section for comments and uh and updates um school facilities committee i will just quickly give you an update um fairly substantive update exciting update school facilities committee uh did vote to uh initiate an nrfp for a feasibility preliminary feasibility study for um school replacement revitalization remodeling in the district this will obviously help us in assessing what the district's needs are um and um we are also um taking steps to move forward with a statement of interest um uh submitting a statement of interest to in applying for the msba's school building authority um their core program or um for a
144new school so yeah none of it's then it's binding this is a very preliminary step it's just sort of taking advantage of the time we have so that we don't miss a window of opportunity should something um you know should a feasibility study your community show that there's an appetite for new schools or need for them um we're just trying to not waste time and um and make it in this year so we're not stuck waiting another whole year without any progress so um that is a um that is a great step forward in the in in in a in a positive direction or you know a proactive direction and um there will be much more on this and uh at this point you know it's very early enough no decisions have been made overall
145everyone's still evaluating need what other districts may have done and what they may be doing but you know at some point um you know this will become a community-wide discussion um and uh we're just at the very early stages but this is a uh beyond actually getting the committee formed and meeting this has this is the next i think substantive update we've had from that so um so kind of exciting we've had some um tours of this facility uh led by dr sullivan and so in and i know that the school facilities members some of them are visiting other schools as well and we'll be coordinating more of those visits in the future to other districts that may have recently um created or built new schools um in neighboring districts and beyond so that's the
146update from the school facilities committee are there any reports from subcommittees we'll just go around in alphabetical order mr cleary the policy and community well the policy committee met subcommittee met and we have some revisions to some policies that we'd like to suggest uh and request the committee review and approve but then my power went out and i didn't make the changes and i didn't get them into you before like with enough time to review them so they'll be ready for the next school committee meeting apologies um the communications subcommittee is also trying to find a time to meet um and i will report back on that um there is a an event that i wanted to announce um in weymouth the cpac and a couple of other town organizations and with support from the
147schools and weymouth town wide parent council and in conjunction with the weymouth police are going to be hosting an event called say it here at change it a weymouth community forum on anti-racism and it will be led by jameel adams who's the director of diversity equity and inclusion in scituate public schools and sarah fury who's a documentarian um and it's a conversation that's taking place wednesday november 17th from 6 30 to 8 p.m at the weymouth high school auditorium uh we will be here so i will not be there but i encourage anyone who's interested in attending to do that um and i will include it in the update in case people want more information as a side note i work with mr adams and he is a very charismatic speaker so it should be
148a really really good night well-led i think so okay well we can always go back here if there's more uh mr dial do you have any updates i have no updates thank you mr dial mr kearney uh yes um i'll be attending tomorrow i'll be going down to cape lovely cape cod to attend the massachusetts school association uh workshops they have down there i'm not sure it was kind of virtual but i'm gonna try to see what classes i can get in i don't know what the deal is but i'm not broke yeah half of it's virtual i don't know if you guys ready so i'm a little confused i actually work there so i'm going to get on there tomorrow if i have to sneak that i'm looking forward to that so i'm going
149to try to attend that um the next couple days and see what kind of new furniture and what the latest and greatest is and i'll report back next on the next committee meeting and i'll try to grab a little brochures if they still have them and see what's going on with other committees um and also too as i i'd like to thank uh mrs owen for uh those lovely shirts today cross country i'll tell you brought tears to my eyes man cohassen came in really strong and for the you know this has been our first year as a cross country and um my son had an extra step in his step this morning because he was just so excited to be on the bus and they took the bus over to hanover today and they
150had this incredible meet that it took me about two hours to walk there from because get a parking car and i just got to tell you i just it was it was a good day for cohasset and deserves and again thank you and thank you uh the school administrators for getting it done it was it was wonderful to see you your kids are going to always look forward to that because it's it's running right i mean it's something they can do for a long time it's great yeah it's great that's all i have for your question all right thanks mr security thank you thank you for making quick turnaround on that for the kids couldn't get anything printed quick enough it was nice they were gray and he's actually my son actually asked me to
151thank you nice that's very nice that's a small visible uh change to this yeah and yeah it was nice white and coes did really well i'll let john tell tomorrow i'm sure he'll be printing the scores out but they were very good for class thank you uh no mine were policy and communication so that's covered okay thank you i have no updates uh beyond that school philly committee update so um at this point miss owen i think is uh it's safe to um depart if she would like dr sullivan sorry no i actually changed all right well moving on to april minutes there are two sets of mini uh meeting minutes that uh were submitted with your packets one is the november 4th 2020 meeting and one of the november 18th 2020 meeting so mr
152dial you were not present at either of these meetings you have to go to staying i plan to stay okay great okay we will can't uh it's a fireable offense november november 4th we'll attack it chronologically november 4th 2020 uh meeting minutes uh all other committee members that are present here were present at that meeting you can vote uh again you've been submitted with your packet if anyone's had a chance to read it or has everyone had a chance to look at them okay see no one responding the negative is there a motion to approve the minutes or are there any questions okay motion has been made to approve the 11 420 meeting minutes uh as submitted by our secretary saint orange is there a second to that motion second motion seconded all in favor
153aye aye aye all opposed abstain abstentions so that motion clearly passes by a vote of four eyes and one extension uh those meeting minutes are approved thank you mrs next is the november 18 2020 meeting minutes again all members present uh but for mr dial were present at that meeting you can vote uh are there any questions regarding the minutes or uh proposed revisions or corrections seeing none is there a motion on the floor to approve the meeting minutes for the november 18 2020 meeting so moved promotion is made by mr kearney is there a second second seconded by mrs o'leary all in favor aye aye all opposed obsessions i'm saying so that motion also passes by a vote of four eyes one abstention thank you as always thank you that is a tough job
154but someone's gonna do it i will say and even though i could not vote on these minutes i do read a lot of minutes in my professional capacity and these are fantastic minutes you know what justine hunt who works for the town of cohasset put these together as she was the person who did it before now kathy and i work on it so shout out to justine thank you thank you you're well drafted well thank you for that style appreciate it there are no topics that were not reasonably anticipated by me 48 hours of meeting so moving on to the last agenda item is there a motion to adjourn this school committee meeting no no executive session there is no reason to have an executive session that i know of unless you are raising that
155because you have one no i'm raising it just so the agenda is covered i see okay well we'll move on to the then the oh i forgot sorry i have something to say have another update no i just got respect i'm so sorry uh mrs quinn clarified she was not actually asking us to do anything she was thanking us for addressing the need for more security i thought that i but it was i didn't thank you and it was my mistake and i apologize and i apologize again for forgetting after the student services report to clarify that as i offered to do something yeah no too so thank you mr quinn and and uh mrs quinn always watches and participates that is awesome appreciate sorry interesting and was here in person i know people expressing
156those feelings though is really important like if someone has thoughts about anything that they feel might not be saying to bring it to our attention is is great because that's sometimes how we grow all right well despite everyone's best interest best uh efforts to fork my efforts to adjourn this meeting is there a motion to adjourn the school committee meeting no emotions no someone okay i'm sorry second seconded all opposed the meeting is adjourned the books clearly passed that was cool thank you thank you wow that's a wreckage four minutes
