[music] >> All right. Welcome to our January 26, 2026 board meeting. Will all of you stand for the pledge? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I believe that I can show all members are present this evening. Item five, except agendas presented. We do have one small change. Item eight, presentation, we will be moving the Onyx facility dog presentation to a meeting in February. So, a motion is in order to remove that? I so move. Support. Any discussion? All in favor? Aye. Okay. Is everyone okay with the rest of the agenda? We have no communications this evening. We do not. Board committee reports, finance committee, Ms. Sanders. Thank you, Madam President.
Tonight for finance, along with Mr. Kennedy, Mr. Williamson, and myself, Mr. Ryan, and Rocky Robbins were present. We reviewed the these renegotiations for the Town Castle cell tower. Those conversations will continue with Mr. Wisniewski and Town Castle. The 2016 bond refund timeline was discussed as well as the materials provided for our confirmation with Mr. Wisniewski. 2017 L2 educator compensation, state funding has been received as well as the state aid for January. However, we did experience a decreased enrollment for that state aid payment. That concludes the finance report. Thank you. Item B, policy focus committee, Ms. Butterball. Thank you, Madam President. Tonight, we did have in our policy committee meeting, joining myself, Ms. Childress, Ms. Picacio, Dr. Shatka, and Mr. Fisher. And what we reviewed tonight was the district's internet filter, which is Linewise, which we
often see in our board packet. And really went through the background of why we do it, what the features of Linewise has. Very, very informative, I will say that. I think there was a few moments of you know, appreciation for for what that system can do. We had a little quick demonstration on how it works. And then also we reviewed the like the implications, you know, what what it, you know, what it does for our students, our administrators, you know, and and how it all of those features. So, what we're also looking into, Dr. Shatka is looking into, is seeing, you know, about the the future of it. Maybe, you know, in the future there could be other technology that's similar to it. Linewise may you know, add some features, things that he would like
to see and we and after the demonstration, we would all like to see some some features be added to it if possible. And if not, then hopefully in the future there's another product that comes out that can do all those things. I highly recommend to our other board members to look into that and maybe have a meeting with Dr. Shatka to go over it because it was really interesting to see. Can I comment on that? Yeah. I just wanted to add to that maybe one of our board workshops we can have Dr. Shatka come. I was just thinking the same thing. If I find out everything then I'll let him go. That would be great. Sorry, Dr. Shatka, you don't have enough to do. We could even throw in the safety assessments like you said
we're going to go over next time and and and all that, just do a Yeah. Okay, sorry. All right. Item nine, comments from the audience focused on today's agenda and we have none. Item 10, approval of the general consent agenda items. A, regular meeting minutes of January 12, 2026. B, building committee minute meeting minutes of January 12, 2026. C, curriculum committee meeting minutes of January 12, 2026. And D, bills payable. A motion is in order. So move. Support. All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Motion passes. Item 11, new business. A, human resources report, Mrs. Williamson. Thank you, Madam President. As you can see, it's a short human resources report this evening. It reflects the resignation of one paraprofessional. So, if there are no questions, I recommend the board approve the human resources report as presented.
Motion is in order. So move. Support. Any discussion? All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Motion passes. Moving on to comments from the audience and we have none. Item 13, review and recommendations, superintendent and other central office admins. Madam President, thank you very much. Uh just a couple things. Obviously, we were coming off of back-to-back snow days effective for Friday and today. And I just want to, you know, thank a few people in particular. I want to thank Dr. Colbert with Wayne RESA. She's very proactive in in meeting with us online as superintendents from across Wayne County. So, any type of snow day decision or an inclement weather closure, we bring in generally bring in a local meteorologist. In this case, it's more often than not WDIV's Brian Sherman. So, we get a lot of up-to-date
and real-time information on the status of the weather and the most recent weather models and predictions for what the next day is going to look like. So, just, you know, to reaffirm with the community, we're very thoughtful about making that decision. But I will share that, you know, for all intents and purposes, if we can hold school and hold school safely, that is that is going to be our goal. We make other considerations based on road conditions and I'm a little old school when it comes to that. I like to get out and drive the roads and see how things are as I did last night. So, moving forward, we know we've got some cold weather in store. Do we anticipate school tomorrow? Yes, we do anticipate school tomorrow. And then we're we've got some
other calls scheduled for later in the week when we know we do have some low wind chills coming up. So, we'll keep the community informed and, you know, as a parent, I appreciate knowing the night before if possible. Then I like to extend that to the community as well. If we can call it the night before, that's going to be our goal. We did have a facility dog presentation scheduled for tonight. We're going to move that to a later date in February at one of our potentially one of our two February meetings. So, we're looking forward to having Onyx, who was our facility dog that's based out of Garden City High School. And Onyx services Garden City High School, Cambridge, Douglas, and the Burger program. So, we look forward to having Onyx and her handlers
here at an upcoming meeting. I know you guys got to meet Zade last time when we were at the middle school. So, the facility dog program is really going well. It's been very well received by students, staff, and parents. Want to thank Mr. English for his support in that, you know, helping to facilitate some of the grants and digging into the grants to fund those two dogs. We know I know we have PTA Founders Day coming up. I want to thank board members who got together to help judge the nominees and review the nominees and Ms. Duford for her good work in getting information out. And thank all of those who took the time to nominate someone for a Hometown Spirit Award. We had a record number of nominations, right around 150. So, just celebrating
the good work that happens and and the hard work of folks including our students from across the district. With that, any comments, anything the cabinet team would like to share? All right. Our next board meeting is Monday, February 9th. And that is hosted at Lathers. So, we'll be a an away game. We'll be celebrating uh above and beyond staff and Shining Star students at Lathers on Monday, February 9th. And that concludes my comments. Thank you. Item 14, review and recommendations, members of the board. Anyone have anything? Okay, we'll move on to item 15, adjournment. Madam President. Mrs. Rafferty. >> I move that we adjourn. Support. Any discussion? All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? All right. Thanks for coming and have a good evening. Just a good evening.
