Call the meeting to order. You all rise for the pledge. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right, can we have a roll call? >> Yes. Men >> here. >> Vak here. Steph is absent. Gardin here. Campo here. Dehan >> here. Hi board. >> Here >> we have a quorum. Thank you. Please note as a courtesy of the members of the audience and the board of education, please silence your cell phone. Public will only be able to speak during public comment if signed up. Mr. Merkel, I have two. Do you have any more? All right, sounds good. Uh, first item, uh, the approval of the agenda. >> Support. >>
Do we want to make a >> We would make the agenda >> after we approved it all. >> We would We can do it now. We can do it after we approve it. Doesn't matter. >> Okay. Doesn't matter then. All right. Uh, all those in favor? >> Yes. >> Opposed? >> Motion passes. >> Uh, number item number two, the reports agenda. >> Uh, >> I thought we were >> No, we would make a motion to make the change. >> Yeah. >> So, who's going to do that? >> Okay. I make the motion that we move the South Elementary presentation uh as item number two. >> Anything else? would move down and then close session would move after public comment. >> I second that. >> All those in favor? >> Oh, discussion. >> Thank you. >>
Discussion about that? >> No. >> All those in favor? >> Yes. >> Opposed? >> Motion passes. >> Onto the reports agenda. >> I don't mind being parliamentarian. >> So, we're going to start with the South Elementary presentation. >> Yes. So very excited to have Dr. England and the wonderful kids from South uh here tonight. So we're going to turn it over to you. Well, we are super excited. Is it Is it on? Okay. We're super excited to be here tonight to tell you a little bit more about South and how we have been working on promoting the love of reading, not only um in our library and um throughout our classrooms, but throughout our entire building and family community. So, we have some third and fourth graders here who are going to share with you
some things that have been happening at South and that are still happening at South during March's reading month. They're going to share some of their favorite books with you and how we've also used those books crosscontentwise to talk about things like science lessons and SEAL lessons and problem solving um and math concepts. And then we also want to share something very special with you that just started this year at South which is called one school one book and everyone in our building um at the beginning of the month received the exact same book and we've been reading it together and not only reading it at school but there's a parent component. So parents um and grandparents have joined in and in a bit you will see that we'd love for you to join in as
well. So, with that, I'm going to turn it over to our amazing amazing librarian, Mrs. Lemons, and she'll get us started. All right, I have Rowan's Rowan um from third grade with me, and his poster is about Pumpkin Jack. And in the story of Pumpkin Jack, we read that in October, and it's a story about a boy who doesn't want to throw his pumpkin away at the end of Halloween. And so it starts to rot and he throws it or takes it out to the garden and it continues to rot and winter comes and it snows and then spring comes and it sprouts and it grows into a pumpkin plant and it grows all of these pumpkins and he ends up sharing all of the pumpkins with his class at school the next fall. Um,
and so with that, um, Miss Lemon brought in our own pumpkin drag for the library. It's been an experiment since October where we have watched it get moldy in the big glass jar. We are hoping it will sprout this spring so we can plant it in our school garden. Some weeks it changes, some it looks the same. It has been fun to watch the pumpkin all year. >> All right. And then next we have um Siri and Reagan from fourth grade. Our poster is about dot day which comes from the book the dot by Peter H. Reynolds. In the story is having a hard time deciding what to draw in art class. Frustrated, she just puts a dot on her paper and turns it in. Her teacher puts it in a frame and hangs it
in on the wall. Vi is surprised and decides he could do better than that and makes a whole bunch of dots big enough big and small all different color colors enough to make an art. So in the end he encourages other kids to try his best to make his very own mark and to draw something too. To to celebrate dot day, we the week of September 15th, we read the story the dot in the library and then everybody in the school decorated their own dot. Miss Lemon combined them all to hang in a mural on the on our wall in the library. We've all made our mark and it reminds us that we could do hard things in our and are all special and in our own ways just like Rashi. >> All right. And
then we have Oliver and Eli from fourth grade. >> Our poster is about the mock called cut that all of the third and fourth graders in Granville participated in this year. We we read these eight books and voted for the book with our favorite pictures. We liked doing this because we got to vote for the one we liked best. At the end of our cod, we learned that the winner of the real cold this year is fireworks. This was cool because the book was part of our mount codicott. Last week we got to go to Century Park for an illustrator visit with Kacia Chan, the Codicott winning illustrator of fireworks. She talked about how she became an artist and showed us how she made some of the pictures and her inspiration for them. We like
this because she is amazing artist and signed our school's book. >> All right. And our last group is Maddie and Isla from third grade. And the bags that you all received are the bags that all of our students at South received um at the beginning of the month for our one school, one book. So that's what you guys all received tonight, too. >> Our poster is about March's reading month and the things that we are doing this month at South. This year, South is doing one school, one book. To start the month, we had some high schoolers come over and do a short play for us to give us clues about our book. And then Dr. England announced our book title, A Boy Called Bat. We were also excited that everyone in the building was
going to get the same book to read this month. That afternoon, we had our VIP reading event. At VIP day, every student had a special person come to school to read with them. During VIP day, we find a cozy spot, eat snacks, and read with our special person. Everyone was excited to get a book this year to start reading it with it together at VIP day. We look forward to VIP day every year. >> So, now that you've learned a little more about South and Reading, do you have any questions for our students? >> Well, I just got to say your presentation skills were phenomenal. >> You could hear every word, every syllable. You did a beautiful job. So, thank you for that. What's what's the one thing you like the most about this this
particular activity with regard to reading? >> Tough question. Go ahead. >> Me? >> Yeah. >> Um probably um working together to make a poster and stuff. >> Nice. >> So, did you guys each make those? Nice job. How about you, Isa? >> Um, that we got to work together, make posters about what we liked, and Yeah. >> Did Did all the students make posters like in groups, pairs? >> Yeah, we all did it in like groups of two. >> Oh, wow. Wow. >> Posters. >> Yeah. Street. Street. >> Yeah. Um, so I like doing this because it shows us that we've read it and it's showing like our art skills and like how we understand the books. >> Great. >> Cool. Maddie and Isla, did you know that the Kent District Library does one book?
One Michigan one book or or the library has one book and so everybody can go and do that. And um there's some really it's really cool that you guys are doing that kind of on a smaller level with your school. So I think that's really cool. Then Rowan, >> did Mrs. Lemon have to burp the jar? I taught that one year. >> I have not burped the jar. I have the jar sealed because I don't want any mold spores getting in the library. You should see >> I did this exact one that it sprouts. >> I mean this is it now >> right into your garden. Go right into the garden. >> That's our thought. >> Super fun. >> I love it. So in your mind >> grapefruit or orange tree when I was at
East in kindergarten >> and you still remember I can still remember the tree. >> It's that kind of stuff that definitely is sticks with it. So >> in your malic did you guys come up with fireworks as being number one also. >> Um >> one of one of the four classes did >> okay. Okay. >> Okay. I personally like don't trust fish. That book cracks me up to no end. So, who are some of the VIPs that you had come and read for you? >> Do you want to just go down and show or just tell who came? Maddie, who came for your VIP? >> My mom. >> Aa. >> My dad. >> Oliver. >> Who came for VIP? >> My mom. >> Hi, Mom. My grandpa. >> Cool. Nice. Very And then we also
had some um high schoolers, some NHS volunteers that came over and helped with reading with students as well. So we had one uncle come from Australia. It wasn't just >> but he was there. You have to add that part. We would have been impressed. >> Very nice. >> Thank you guys for sharing. >> Very well done. Very nice job. >> Thanks boys and girls. Thanks, Dr. England. Thanks, Mr. Thank you. Appreciate it. >> So cute. >> I can't remember if it's a great food or >> All right. On to board member reports. >> Frank, want to start? >> Uh, nothing much. Looking forward to spring sports. Baseball's first game is supposed to be Friday if they can find a turf field to play on. And then, um, I'm sure lacrosse. Mr. and Mrs. Lemon have
a son that's very good at lacrosse. That'll be starting. I'm not sure when the first game is, but that's starting to hear pretty pretty Friday, too. But some scrimmages, right? See >> cold. >> Looking forward to just being able to get out and see some of those things hopefully in warmer weather. >> Mhm. Are there any high school teams that have a a turf field? >> Um well there >> I know Cornerstone has >> Kelloggsville does. >> Cornerstone. Um Davenport and then Luke said there was a couple other high schools really that have them around that they were trying to see but >> All right. >> Hadn't had any. Kenway Hills. >> Oh, really? >> But it was it would be their first game there. >> Yeah. So, >> Probably not going to happen. Fair
enough. >> He wanted to know if you could pull any strings there. >> Nope. Don't know anybody there. >> All right. Very good. Thank you, Amy. >> Um, yeah. So, just some cool things going on. Uh, our unified basketball team at Oakstown. Um Oliver um won division one state title in the butterfly as well as all state honors and um breaking some new school records along with Ty Vanderwal which is so very awesome for our swim team. Um I was going to mention March is reading month with Mr. Gel. They have some cool high school kids. The basketball team came in. I saw on social media my own granddaughter was like, "Oh my goodness, high school people." So very cute to have our um I love it when our older kids interact with our younger
kids. It's so important, right? So >> coming on Wednesday >> and the crowd. Yep. I'm sure with with Rosie that all Yeah, she did that last year, too, which was super super fun. Um last Saturday we did the student council ran the um a fundraising breakfast for the veterans memorial breakfast. And what's really cool about that, I always say this, I love the way our school works with our community because it was with Parks and Wrecks to do something for the veterans memorial that's going in in Wedgewood. So, it's really cool that our schools and our community and our veterans and our it it was great. And then um they had uh kids from band also played music. So my son did some saxophone music and so it was um I think they had trumpet
trumpet trombone and then they had saxophone duets and so yeah really good music. They had some requests for music and I said they'll probably work on that for next year. Um our hockey players, we had six hockey players on our varsity hockey team make all conference select teams with two additional that were honorable mention. That's eight of our team. That's huge. And then we had three allstate first team honors and then we had two all state second team honors. So our hockey team, even though we didn't go as far as we wanted to go, wow, those those boys really stepped it up. Um again, Chicago, the play is being held on April 24th through 26th. This coming weekend is state solo and ensemble for all those students who got first at um regionals. Now they're
going on to states in Portage. Um, Century Park just finished their lipsync comp. It was so cute. I love that. >> Um, and then, um, I'm really grateful to all the teachers, admin, staff, and community who came out to the listening sessions that Mark Palmer held. Um, I appreciate their voices and I I appreciate this board for giving them that chance to do that. So, thank you to the board and thank you to our community and two weeks till spring break. >> All right. Thank you. >> Y >> no reporting, Sally. >> Sure. Um I had the opportunity to be one of the guest readers at a couple of our elementaryaries. That's always so much fun. And actually, let me tell you that our librarians bar none are some of the best. And uh I
particularly was um taken by some of the selections that Mrs. Kelly had. Um no, Mrs. Ryan, sorry. I was getting her name backwards up at uh Grand View. and she um actually turned me on to Don't Trust Fish, which I was laughing out loud when I read it the first time. So, they did a great job across the district with March's reading month and just get kids so excited about reading and and finding the books that they enjoy. So, I really appreciate that. And yeah, I'm also looking forward to going to see Chicago the musical for high school versions and um that'll be a lot of fun and um just have enjoyed interacting with people across the community and in our district and hearing their points of view about various things that are um going
on and our big choice that we have to make and our superintendent. So much appreciated. >> Great. Thank you, Amy. >> Yeah. Um so congratulations to the middle school bands. um they participated in their festival um and did received all ones. Um they are phenomenal for you know when you see your kids start in sixth grade and then you just watch it every year. Um I'm I'm always amazed by that by the progress that they've made. Um I also wanted to acknowledge uh I believe this month uh few weeks ago was National School Social Worker Awareness Appreciation Week. Um, and I wanted to acknowledge and appreciate our school social workers in our district. Um, it's a very difficult job. Um, oftentimes people may not see them. You know, families may not see them quite as
much. Um, but we value you and we have an excellent team. So, >> great. All right. Uh, for my items, again, congratulations to all the hockey uh, players, right? A lot of folks getting a lot of great um, honors there. So, that was really cool. Uh the swim and dive team, you mentioned Oliver and Tai and the relays that all competed. So uh I'm great uh to see them be successful. The wrestlers, uh obviously that was happening, too. I mean, just a lot of stuff as the seasons are wrapping up. Bowling, Ethan Brown, shout out to Ethan. Did he did he win? Yeah, he's a state champion, right? Okay. Yeah. So, uh that was awesome. And then, you know, the the teams as well did a great job throughout the season. Um and in the
um cheerleading, they didn't get the result they wanted, but still, you know, what a great uh opportunity for them to go back. I mean, they were leading, I understand, I think after two rounds and then Yeah. then the third round. Yeah. So, that's a tough one, but um it is what it is, right? I mean, it's got to bring a game. Got to be perfect all the time, and it's hard to be perfect all the time. So, >> um let's see what else we have. Uh we had the Hall of Fame dinner uh um which was two weekends ago. Gosh, time's flying on me. uh and which near and dear to my heart because uh uh the 93 uh uh wrestling team u which is my the year I graduated uh was honored um for
their contributions and uh missing a key member of that group which was Tom Graverson who passed this past year. Um so but it was great to to see those folks or those guys all get honored there and so forth. So um yeah just a lot of great stuff and looking forward to the upcoming seasons as things are starting and um yeah and spring break like you said just a couple weeks away. So >> that's all I have. >> Okay. Yeah, you guys cover did a great job covering most everything. The Hall of Fame dinner was that that's always a a great thing and you'll learn so much about uh our history and it's amazing how many people that are honored there uh what they've gone on to do to make you know Granville proud. And
uh it's always always so good to hear the stories. Um, also I was at uh I'd like to thank Mrs. Van Hackin again. The veterans breakfast at the high school Saturday was wonderful and very wellreceived. Of course, uh, VEX IQ had their tournament of champions Saturday. Um, helped kick that off and they that was a again another great event and our kids can be proud and we can be very proud of that facility. Other than that, I think you guys mentioned pretty much everything. So, great job with that. So that's all I have. >> All right. Great. Uh on to item number three, old business. Any old business? >> Old business. >> All right. Um on to item number four, the consent action agenda. Can I get a motion? >> So moved. >> Support. All
those in favor? >> Yes. >> Opposed? >> Motion passes. Uh on to item number five. Uh 5A, the 2026 summer te teacher laptop refresh. It is recommended the board of education approve the purchase of 500 Dell Pro 16 laptops at a p total purchase price of 313,430. The purchase price also includes a $5,000 allowance for the purchase of laptop cases. Pricing is via the REMC statewide bid list. Can I get a motion to move? >> Support discussion. >> So I'll let you hear from Walt, but I just want to u make notice of the funding source. it is the 2024 bond issue that's covering this price tag. >> And I'll also add that um it looks like the board agenda item didn't get updated. So the the purchase quantity is actually 450, not 500. Um
Heather and I did some discussion and inventory checking and make sure we we're being responsible with the money that we're spending. So we're going to only purchase 450 laptops, not 500. So that total is different. So that is the versus the 313430. >> Correct. The total purchase price for this would be 282 or 282587 with the actual correct. >> Got it. That was my only question I was going to ask. >> Okay. >> Um so this is the teacher laptop refresh. Um, back in April of 2024, I came to you with um non-instructional laptop refresh. Uh, we try and keep our uh staff laptops on a 5-year refresh cycle. Um, normally I would also have docking stations and a larger case allowance in there. But again, being responsible with funds, the docking stations that teachers
are using in their classrooms still function just fine with the newer laptops. So, there's really no need to replace those. And also a lot of the we did kind of an informal survey of the the cases that are out there. Some teachers use the cases, some teachers don't. They have their own case. So in this instance, we're going to purchase fewer cases and then teachers can request a new case if it's necessary. >> Great. >> Other questions? >> I only had one. >> All right. So with that uh because it's we're approving more they just don't spend the whole amount we don't have to amend. >> So okay let's do this this way. Um, I want to make a motion to amend the original motion >> where the quantity of the PCs goes from $500
to450 and the total purchase that we're authorizing is $282,587. >> I second that. >> So, we now need a motion. We now need to approve that and then then we can approve this. >> Yep. >> All right. Um all those in favor of approving the motion to change the quantity as Bob the amendment. I'm sorry the Bob as Bob mentioned. All those in favor? >> Yes. >> Opposed? >> Motion passes. >> Any other um any other discussion on the original motion? All right. Let's do a roll call vote the quantity. Okay. Ven, yes. Gardin, >> yes. >> Dihan, >> yes. >> Campell, >> yes. >> Wonder, >> yes. >> I guess motion passes. All right. On to the next item, uh, the transportation building F. Um, it is recommended that the board of education authorize
owns Kimble uh to issue a letter of intent in the amount indicated to the contractor listed pending confirmation that all requirements of the contract documents have been met. Upon receipt by OK of all appropriate documentation is further recommended the board of education were to contract to the contractor as specified below. Um, so there's a couple items here in here. The general change, the roofing, the painting, and then uh one item just to note the roof deck replacement allowance. Um the allowance is to replace wood roof decking as needed. Condition is unknown and is inaccessible for review. So the qualified bid package the contractor specified above totals $279,730 with a contingency of $27,937 is included bringing the total project total to $37 $37,73. Can I get a motion? >> So move >> support >> discussion. Uh
this is the uh last project um on the transportation site. It is um the storage units uh that are adjacent um on the newer parcel that was purchased um a few years ago and really looking to replace a lot of the doors and the roof. Um that facility is currently holding um a lot of auditorium props and some um different items for the band as well as um furniture that we move throughout the district. Um this is sinking fund dollars and um because we can pretty much start around spring break um should be done early midsummer. So >> So when we purchased that property >> Mhm. This was the bonus. >> This I'm sorry. >> This was the bonus. >> Yes. >> Because I consider this a big bonus. >> You never enough enough storage,
right? >> Um >> I think I don't have any questions on anything other than what I already gave you. Somebody needs to play the lottery tonight because I don't have many questions. But price is nice. Um, just nice job all around, I think. >> Thank you. I >> mean, my question was just, do we long-term intend to just keep that building and keep it for storage? >> Yes, that's the that's the plan. Mhm. >> How much room do you have? I've got a bunch of stuff. >> I can write up a rental agreement if you'd like. >> Nice job, >> I love it. I love it. >> Oh my goodness. >> All right. Very good. Let's do a roll call vote. >> Campbell, >> yes. Gardine, >> yes. >> Dan, >> yes. >> Wonder, >>
yes. >> Vaccore, >> yes. Motion passes. Uh, on to 5C. The district photography services recommended the board of education approve the use of photography services from Gus Photo, Inc. for the 2026, 2027, the 2027 to 2028, and the 2028 to 2029 school years. Can I get a motion? >> So moved. >> Support. This tonight, this uh yep. So I along with Charlie Kleinhex, our athletic director, did um photo beds. We originally reached out to seven companies. Only six uh showed up for the meetings. The six you have in the board packet. Um, after listening to all six of those bids and those pitches and just what they had to offer, um, you can see our pros and cons um throughout there, but there's really nothing that uh was much uh different from a from a
proactive or a better standpoint. Um, the last time um I did these what, four years ago, um we were missing the digital ID option. that was an option from uh Life Touch at the time, but you know, we went back to Guscus and we said that's something that we really um find valuable because as we know students sometimes misplace their ID badge. It's been invaluable from um an ID standpoint because the good thing is that at least our high schoolers, they're never going to leave this at home and so they can just pull up the digital ID. It has um a a color tracking device around their uh ID picture that moves to show that it's live so that we can tell that they're currently enrolled. Um that's a big factor in things like dance
um ID when they come in. But Gus came and developed that for us after reaching out and saying that. And in my opinion, that was a huge move because they were willing to listen and then uh develop something that's become very valuable. And when asking all these other companies if they had digital ID, um I believe only Lifetouch was the only other person that did, but they outsource it to a third party, whereas Guscus is housed underneath their company. Um, additionally, Gus' uh customer service has been second to none. You know, they're they're based right here in Standel Walker area. all of their printing, all of their business is here. Whereas some of the other companies say they're a family-owned company, but they outsource things across the country from a printing standpoint. Everything is done
right here in West Michigan. Um, you know, Brian Gritter is our sales rep. He's been fantastic. We had a a family this uh fall have a tragic house fire. Um, when I reached out to the family and asked them what they needed, they just said we lost all of our pictures. I made one phone phone call to Brian. Brian had all their pictures because we've been with Gus for a long time. He was able to get prints right away and as we all know, you know, you can lose things, but sometimes those things are very valuable. In this case, the pictures were huge. And so, um, Brian's been fantastic. Another thing we had families um in another building at the high school who were falling on some hard times and needed um you know when
I when I got a chance to talk with them um even though they're in another building um they said you know we just we just feel bad that we couldn't get our students pictures this year I made one phone call to Brian Gascus comped those pictures for that family. So, from a customer service standpoint, from a supporting Granville High School and Granville Public Schools standpoint, um they're second to none. From an athletic side of things, they allow our um our community members who do pictures, think Jay Willoughby, Jen Belgraph, and and the likes of those to be able to come aside and do the pictures. They don't have any problem with that. Um they're working on some um innovative things that we heard from some of the other companies when it comes to athletic uh
photos. um and they're already willing to to see what they can do with those. So, um it's my recommendation that we continue to stay with Guscus um for our district photography. After talking with some of the elementary principles as well as the middle school principal, um there's nothing that they felt was insignificant in terms of price point or um quality of service. Um it's also good to know a lot of the other companies would try to offer us um incentives to stay with them rather than taking that out of the price for our families whereas Guscus gives us the best price for our families which is important in my opinion as well too. So recommendation to stay with Gus until um the 2829 school year when we'll do this process again. >> Thank you. I
kind of I mean really like the fact that we we continue to go out and at least verify the market so that we're we know your recommendation. You're comfortable with it. You're solid behind it and you know you're taking care of our families. So that's I mean key reason why we're here. So thanks for the diligence. You know, Charlie, thank you for the work you guys did. I love the fact that you included their pricing in here, too. >> Um, >> it kind of helps us see what you saw. >> I can appreciate the the story, too, but how attentive they are to our needs, whether it be a family in need or a family just who went through a tragic event, right? So, um, and I appreciate, you know, that you guys are still
willing. You're missing a very grumpy photographer. I know. >> Oh, no. My father used to take pictures for them back in the day. So, >> and and when we did graduation one year, >> yes, >> Jason's mom was so diligent on making sure that we had the order right and I was like, "Oh, we'll get the order later when she was on it." And you don't tell Mr. You don't tell. >> Well, I'm glad that they had ears to hear the needs and that you guys were willing to search out those answers. That's great. Thank you. >> Thanks, Adam. >> Any other questions? Thanks, Adam. >> Yep. >> All right. All those in favor? >> Yes. >> Opposed? >> Motion passes. >> All right. So, we're going to go move on to public comment. We've
got two uh items. Uh so, you know, Miss Campbell will be keeping track of the time. Um each speaker will have five minutes and at the one minute mark left, you will let them know. All right. Very first we have Michelle Thomas. Nuck Kaylee Jansen's. Hello. I want to talk about showing up and some missed opportunities. Um, but first I want to start with Granville Cheer. Um, obviously it's no secret that we have a longstanding and successful program here at Granville and those girls work incredibly hard and put in a lot of hours as do the coaches. Um, for those that don't know a lot about the program, the varsity girls practice three hours a day from August until March through sideline and um their competitive season. In the offseason, they do lifting, tumbling, camps,
clinics. They also play a huge role in the community. Summer vacation to them equals coaching and running community camps. Dead week for them equals being in the Fourth of July parade. Off season from sideline means being in the Granville's Christmas parade. Um springtime it's the riverbank run. Thursdays it's bulldog buddies where they volunteer in classrooms. Saturday mornings is coaching rocket cheerleading. Victory day, kindergarten tailgate, homecoming festivities, pep rallies, also balancing academics. We had nine all academic allstate cheerleaders on the team. They do it all with a smile and they know that their presence is making a difference. So, thank you to um Mr. Barrett, Mr. Lento, all the ads, the other admins for showing up at the state finals. It's always a special day, lots of nerves, lots of excitement, a lot of pressure on
these girls to represent their school. So, they love seeing your faces when they exit the mat, maybe getting a fist bump for a little encouragement, your presence is noticed and it matters. But on the flip side, when that support is missing, it's also noticed and it matters. We held three invitationals at home this year. The first one had 20 plus teams and raised money for scholarships. There were no ads present, no admin. I'm gonna butcher the names, but thank goodness for Chip Ribecki or Ribbiki. He's a middle school teacher and Hunt Atkins who's a track and track coach or a cross country coach. I'm not even sure. I don't know if they got drafted or if they got volunteered for this position, but they filled in for our 80s and we could not have run
that meet without them. Uh the second home um meet was teacher appreciation night. We didn't see a lot of faces. Our third was the pinkout. We had 32 teams. There was news coverage. We raised thousands of dollars. There was a mobile memography unit. Teams came from as far away as Eskanaba. It took over 50 cheer volunteers to pull it all off. Um, I feel like it was definitely a missed opportunity for people to not only support our girls, but show them that you support a cause that is important to many of them on a personal level. I want to give a shout out to the football team and to the coach to coach Steagle. We asked for a handful of volunteers to help. He had dozens of football players that showed up to help and
give back for all the hours that our girls spend helping the football team. They held doors. They carried food to the cafeteria. Um they had football parents running parking. We filled the auditorium, the gymnasium on both sides and it was a great day and a missed opportunity. Then there was postseason. Uh conference finals were at Hudsonville where we won the okay red with no support and no leadership present. February 20th was district finals where we won the district title quietly without a lot of fanfare. The assistant AD showed up did accept the trophy and the photo was taken on re on to regionals where there was no admin and no ads present. Mind you, the night before the boys basketball districts won and all of our girls were there supporting that team and saw all
of the fanfare and all of the people cheering on an accomplishment that they had just had the week prior. Many laughed it off. Um I understand that having a student section requires a lot more presence from um admin to take care of the student section session. I get that. But I've been to baseball playoffs and hockey playoffs and all of that and I see the people that turn out for that. So it leaves our girls to wonder, is it because they have repeated success that it's just taken for granted? Is it because it's just cheer? Or is it because it's a girls sport and it leaves them asking themselves these questions? And so I hope that next year it can be a little better because they shouldn't have to ask themselves that question. >> Time.
Thank you. Up next, Kayleie Jans. Um, I'm just here for two reasons. Um, first reason being that the Michigan Special Education Finance Reform Blueprint is published online for anyone on the board to read. Um, it's designed to tackle issues like the achievement gap, growing demand for resources, and funding inequality. Um, you know, I just want to encourage you if you have time to at least skim over it, please consider skimming over it in your free time because they worked really hard on it. Um, if you haven't already met with each other to discuss it cuz frankly, I'm sure you knew about it long before I did. Um, my second reason for attending is to just say thank you for proceeding with the listening sessions. Um, it was really nice to hear from other parents about
their thoughts on the superintendent search and Mr. Palmer was an awesome listener. It was really nice to meet him in person. >> Thank you. >> Thanks. Thanks. >> All right, that includes our normal work that we have and we have another item to discuss in close session. So, a motion to move into close session. >> So moved. >> Support. Thank you.
