also you know on some news stories but Harbor Creek Community Schools conducted a thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct by Harvard High School teacher and thorough meaning the administrators over a 16-16 day period uh he interviewed and investigated as many people as had came forward so that we had a thorough investigation before the investigation was complete the teacher decided to retire from education and some questions came up about you know is the investigation open or closed and it is open until the authorities come to a final conclusion so that when the police come to a final conclusion my understanding is that my Township is close and they will be having their own statement that will come out soon um the process and procedures used during the investigation of alleged misconduct maintain the staff members due

process rights while considering factual information and evidence student safety and a positive learning environment are Harper Creek Community School's primary concerns the district will ensure safe places within the school for students and staff having a dentist of all the time um student education and staff training and healthy relationships will be a priority within our health education curriculum I'm happy to say that we have staff training that is scheduled it will happen for high school middle school staff during our next professional development Day in February and then we are in process of scheduling times in which we can have folks come in and talk to our kids in middle school and high school specifically about healthy relationships and so with that being said I know like I said it's been a difficult time in our board

and myself take this matter very seriously some other things that a lighter note concerts we have lots of holiday concerts coming up tomorrow night is our choir concert for middle school high school seven o'clock in the auditorium uh the Bible spark Elementary and Thursday is doing their vocal concert K through second grade is at 1 30 and third and fourth is at 2 30. the high school band concert is also on Thursday the 15th in the auditorium Lake Elementary will be on their vocal concert on December 20th K1 at 10 and second through fourth grade at two and then finally our Middle School band holiday concert is the 20th of December I believe that's next Tuesday at 9 12 on 397 and then Sonoma is doing something a little different they're going to do a

winter art gallery and I talked to their um their art teacher Mrs Rios and she had said from 5 30 to 7 they're going to open up all the classrooms and have art everywhere within the school for parents as well as grandparents and community members to enjoy we finish up a bee kind fundraiser that was done by our high school girls basketball team I thought that was a really nice idea we had a friend lutzky happy I think all all of us in the room know Mr lutzky a long time Community member he in the most recently was known for running a multi neighbor food pantry and they have provided food bags for kids I don't know exactly how long now it's been five or six six years that they do it every single Friday

and they have they made 100 Pair I'm sorry 809 so I appreciated the students and staffs up on that we've been doing thankful and thoughtful Awards with our staff and we've had over 235 nominations during the month of November so I appreciate that our holiday project is going and in the high school specifically but we've had several schools that have also participated wild spark Elementary as a breakfast and a toy drive the high school is doing their can drive up until this Wednesday we can have a teacher resignation Megan lecari she's a Sonoma first grade teacher and so we will be filling that spot it's your last day of school her last day here will be the day before break the 22nd of December um I want to talk just a touch I've got a

line on this one uh District Library uh purchase procedures and looking into how we purchased library books within the school there has been you know a few challenges of books throughout the nation in the area and the way that books are purchased it really depends on the level but in elementary school our reading Specialists our principal of our library comparison teachers I typically get together to order books and go through a process inside you know which books to order Middle School I think it's more of the again the library Tara that we have a librarian in the Middle School along with the principle are typically the ones and then some teachers specifically English teachers in the high school is typically done by our librarian we have a professional librarian in high school that decides on

book order for high school so that question came up I want to make sure I answered it and I think that's it I like to Echo thank you for Tim and I really appreciate your service as well all right thank you Mr Ridgeway Mr secretary any uh Mr President last time I wanted to ask that to ask her all right [Music] members so with the current events that are happening at the high school maybe back a lot of data within the last few months and all your polls and everything this must be decided not to do a survey myself and you guys want to add just besides no survey uh I mean just this week in the past week we have had our holiday project running throughout the school um Miss look who has been

a really active Community member at our schools run the program and kind of a tradition that we're trying to bring back to our schools so she's been collecting donations along with student council and we will be continuing to collect those donations through Wednesday I believe and really if anybody is looking to help I'm really looking for a non-perishable food items that can be donated to our 18 adopted families this year awesome thank you for that all right to move on to varsity baseball coach introduction that is coach twice correct it is all right please come on up and thank you for the support from the in your baseball players and parents yeah absolutely good to see you ah thank you for having me uh just a quick introduction I just wanted to meet you so

family friends thank you very excited about this my name is David Weiss I'm actually from the southwest Michigan area Kalamazoo went to Comstock graduated in L3 Harper Creek's a little bit kind of like what complex used to be bad about a school but it sounds like it's not what it once was so um decided it was time to time hold on so like I said I graduated in all three I played football basketball and baseball there later four times in varsity baseball in the quarterback for four years still have the record right there for uh High School baseball 31 and five Mark and I actually had to go to Harbor Creek to move to Grand Rapids Catholic Central so um yeah I'm familiar with the baseball program here at Harper after after high school I

went on to play baseball at calcium or at Carthage College in Kenosha Wisconsin uh played four years there I ended up going to the World Series my senior year so it was an awesome experience kind of was uh kind of was raised in a blue collar family my dad is a choir fighter I actually just retired as a chief in Kalamazoo my grandfather was a firefighter so they used to say growing up that we're not raising racehorses we're raising mules so we're here to work so that's kind of my philosophy and everything so through practice games everything we're going to be working so um so yeah like I said uh coming out of college I wasn't really sure what I was going to do um it was either one of two things either coach or

become a player until I did both um actually and as I'm going back to Comstock where I coach football and baseball for a number of years um I ended up having my first son right at the time that I was going to play the football job in Baltimore so ended up staying back and going to fire academy um working working compsych in the Kalamazoo area the fire department for about 10 years until I got hired at the city of Battle Creek so I'm currently a firefighter in the city of Battle Creek I love my job I love the community and and continue to coach with my my oldest son hit around 11 years old a little bit before that I should say about six years um the last five years I started a program called

top tier it is a baseball program that is a nationwide right now we have over 700 division one baseball players in the country and that's what we do so we take them at a young age we develop them up and then come off to the College of Portugal I'm very proud of that in the last five years we've turned the Battle Creek South of West Michigan area into uh General Powerhouse from Au to 15U and here we are so I know a lot of the players around the around the area very familiar with the coaches very familiar with the state schools so that's another topic that but College preparation and getting these athletes in the next level is very important to me kind of my passion this has been a job to me this is

a career I'm here for the long haul my youngest daughter is four months old so I'm not going anywhere anytime soon so I expect to bring home the first day Championship here at Harbor Creek within the first five years so that's my five year plan a 10-year plan obviously modifying the facilities if possible doing fundraisers and and working very closely before I had a great group of parents a sophomore class I know a lot of those a lot of the boys I know a lot of the boys around the area so fundraising getting in touch with the board making not only these students and athletes but also students my expectation on their classroom is just as hard as well as they do on a baseball field I expected to be in the front row of

every class there will be no ineligibility I don't put up with any of that um clean cut and we will go to work as soon as possible so um it's definitely going to be a little bit of a culture shock I think for everybody like I said it's uh we're here at work um I speak to Melissa at ad at least once a day now multiple times a week you take a look at our schedule we revamped it we are now playing at least at our level um so I believe there's three teams on our schedule right now that are a class below one of which was a state champion last year in Buchanan which we'll be inviting to our tournament that we're we're hosting this year then so we're also picked up uh Galesburg

which is I know a lot of boys over there and all of that which I post a few local boards as well uh but like I said I'm very close with like The Comstock kind of brand in the early 2000s we picked up three rivers on Siegel and Plainwell we go Wolverine conference and I think that's kind of right where we need to be right now um game plan for the next five years is to give these boys we preach effort attitude and toughness I'm a firm believer that what you lack in talent and skill you can be made up a little toughness so we're going to be playing with our hair on fire you're going to see a different look from the students and in the hallways very excited and uh from there that's

that's like I said I appreciate your guys's time uh having me in and all the support from the from the staff the first day I got the job we actually met as a coaching staff not making any moves I think the staff that we have in place is great I'll be adding an assistant coach after this year his uh his son is actually a senior at Lakeview which uh Jason Miller he won a state championship for Lakeview and he's been kind of my right hand man so um looking forward to it obviously you know hey he's been around forever and part of the community a lot of the other coaches that coach football and everything here as well so like I said I appreciate the time thank you for having me just want to introduce

myself available anytime I'm working with soon to be the board member uh Brad Halverson so we have a lot of great ideas ready to go and to you or is any questions welcome Dave thank you very much thank you all right thank you and baseball movies great show of support all right move on to this week updates curriculum Mrs Williams in my report you'll see we have um we have two course propulsions we also have a request for text and how many resources for our auto mechanics course which runs the Middle School into high schools like kind of give you a heads up had a previous meeting about that also the current textbook is guiding the students on how to fix Roll-Ups windows so that and many other things have changed with our automotive industry

so we're asking a new resource completed the learning loss grade application as we're trying to at least offer one more year of Summer programming we're still waiting to hear it on that resource offered a session a K-12 session for nwea for teachers to come and just share how are they using that resource at their Benchmark assessment which is good and then New Jersey Educators as you know a year ago in November we came to you and asked for an additional course exploring education and the structure to that course was the curriculum was written by MD and so that course did run this semester so I had the opportunity to go visit the now I'm doing an amazing job with those young people that are aspiring Educators and that is just one of our plans to

kind of help our youth see what education might look like so she's getting them into classrooms for experiences and actually when I ask them like their favorite part of this course was that was a life observing classrooms what that does is it Bridges as we look at potential Educators and coaches they may want to go to the career center but they may not want to commit a half a year without knowing more so it allows 9th through 12th graders can take it so that's an exciting actually right uh December 21st 22nd our half days is the record today for our secondary schools middle school and high school and it's a professional learning day for our elementary I think those are the main things and Mr Robinson thank you um I submitted my report I just

want to touch a couple points you know you see me we talk about concealer leads every month and I think they're making some strides now it looks like some folks in some spots um pardon me they're doing a lot of work getting ready for the next couple weeks we're just building such stuff that are just you know ready for support for 2012 school year um future needs projects we're working on uh I am personally working on already make science projects starting to get some planning rounds of uh some budgetary numbers around and so we'll be looking at those properties in the January February March time frame and get those to our building committee and um as soon as you can start talking about those things so we can make some decisions in that March April

time frame and not or even a little sooner because we all know there's still a great problem with a deliveries on a lot of things right now and so which leads me into our preschool HVAC a project I gave a little bit of an update on that as you see we do have some some tentative dates right now on our air handlers that were ordered they will be year and February so one of the things they're having problems with they're all the fans on it being produced for some reason so the contractors went with another uh trying another find another fan manufacturer we believe that they've done so it just has to make it through engineering so many miles to make sure that our need we believe they will but right now as you can

see I've got a couple units I'm going to be here by the end of the month by here I don't mean on Harper Creek's property we have a designated KMI Kalamazoo Mechanicals the housings units as uh I just don't want to have to build a fence and worry about security with them and they're they're able to take care of those and probably keep them under Rook as well some of the rest of the units are we're looking in that you know April the May time frame which is going to be really tight still um so I'll update more as we get some more information meaning a couple times a month on CSM and the engineering staff on this project so just don't want to and we're under a pretty tight time frame from the summer

too so um crosswalk project we talk about that all the time we're still waiting on or runs across the street but we do have a new maintenance person on board he started last week we're happy to have Jerry Gilbert comes to us with a great deal of experience and we're excited to have it looking forward to do things from Jerry he's so far he's been here this is week number three he's been an assets and then happy holidays to everybody and thank you uh Tim and JC for everybody over the last few years I appreciate it any questions yeah move on to finance and Ms oberliner of where we are at the end of November um pretty much right where we should be the food service is higher than then we want it to be

um because of the Sundown planning required by the state I know I say that every time but uh the debt fund that's up there because we have collected most of our local taxes which is where we pay our debt funds and maybe make that payment so you'll see that um and then our capital projects I know that that's higher than it normally is which is our future needs help money um but that's all in your mark like he said uh for the for the HVAC uh system a lot of that is the next one is the board breakdown where I give you our our budget it's still our original budget that we've passed back in June uh Albert bringing a new one to you either next month or the month after depending on when students

um finish but I I like to look at and focus on that percentage over there the as you can see for example the revenue is higher because mostly summer taxes which makes up a lot of article Revenue um it's a state percentage um being the 19.3 makes sense because um we've had two low bar 11 state aid payments which is um I just want to touch base again on the percentages a lot of the instructions at the top the 100s most of that is salary and benefits we've had eight out of the 26 for people who are on future pays which would be 30 percent three out of the 12 insurances which is 25 which make up a large portion of of that um down down below the support services you know everything's on a

different pay schedule a lot of those are um the year-round items that have been going from June that July which makes sense why that percentage is higher again this will change some because of the distance back from June we get a lot of assumptions I did want to touch base I actually just found something else this morning that the ISD reimbursable rate for special ed reimbursement is is normally 85 with the increase in state funds they hate funds that are increasing our reimbursement rates and 96.255 for this year um and also the back and forth for some reason it's different um cool thank you we're up a little bit at 7.87 Count Day so our FPA is currently again I'm going to bring you a new budget but it's at 2760. 60. so since County

we've added YouTube yeah and then the last one is we got a portion of that 25 years students 7.87 less than that yeah and then the last report is the check registered summary that I like to give you guys every month which is you know the increase from 85 to 92.5 percent uh it'll be about from from the original budget 140 000 I'm going to squeeze that every little bit kind of helps close the gap a little bit and for the audience Ms obermeyer mentioned pills that's payment in lieu of taxes that's the casino money you get in so um we're going to have any questions from the civil lawyer all right thank you for moving on to technology and Mr Mayor all right I wanted to touch on a few of the cyber security

initiatives as we know that's always uh always in the news or so recently so I guess there's a few bullet points that we are looking into one is Network testing so actually there's a government agency that will scan our Network for us continuously basically I'm looking for weaknesses disappeared software and things that that other people might find and take advantage of and let us know we're looking at that signed up and it's entirely free service which is great backups so we have a newer backup Appliance so we're communicating the software that goes with and updates now as well that's probably the most important piece that we have in place for you know potential ransomware attacks and backups you know it is phishing awareness this is a big one this is actually actively training staff on

recognizing and responding to sufficient details as your email has been to trick people into logging in or providing information and that sort of thing and so many of these Services work but actually they will send fake emails to your staff and then you know people click on them then it recognizes who it was and they can follow various ways and this is this is put in conjunction with training like we do on annual basis about a lot of things like our blood work attached into what now so to be able to fix training and if they get the ongoing training with the attempt to reduce the number of people clicking on complaints because that is the biggest attack Vector out there passwords so we are looking at changing how we handle our passwords right now

we're not doing a whole lot with them but we're going to be looking at forcing a change pretty soon perhaps annually research actually shows that you can change your password too often and surprisingly some of the stats suggest that instead of trying to make more complicated passwords and have all the different letters and numbers you're just making it longer and so we're looking into what that might look like before we come up with anything there um that had a multi-factor authentication which we've already got in place we are working to expand that and uh bring it in anywhere we can so that's kind of the some of the high level view of the cyber security and just uh the different year altogether as copiers our current copier plate we've purchased in 2018 and some of

them are getting to the point where we're getting for your regular service calls and so we're looking with the company if there's any absence of our leasing or whatnot to get some of them replaced particularly our big work group topiors and all the energy school has one or two of these and all of them have well over a million pages around them the average cap was related to have one of them is almost two million they can go longer than that because they're big machines but they're going to break down more and more as they get older and so I want to see if we can't just replace a few of the Strategic ones and keep us going forward questions from this remainder Jim the fishing awareness is that happening or that's coming in the

future in the future so if you get my dad to open it up um I also have a question the board in front of the high school again is off is that just for the high school or whatever um I don't know I haven't been working on that this time so okay I drove by at the other night sounds like there's nothing on this again so it shut off okay thank you for asking I've noticed that as well sorry move on comments related to agenda items audience this is your turn to speak up to three minutes of the state Geneva address and any uh agenda items related to the agenda we have you know properties I know all right nobody wants to speak indesigned correct if you do please raise your hand all right here

we can see now we'll move on to the Kentucky General Mr secretary share calls from also the Harper Creek authority of Education approves that the Senate agenda as follows approved the general fund checks School Services fund checks and the student school activities fund checks and importance with the list discussed to prove the following minutes as reviews approves that November 14 2022 budget committee meeting budget committee meeting minutes approves the November 14 2022 a regular Board of Education and approves the December 8 2022 budget committee meeting minutes forward by Mrs all work I think Mr bear snipped out at the second we have discussion sorry Harry see him please call the rules Mr Ferguson yes back with orders yes this is not work yes Myers yes all right thank you that Mr secretary will have you

information discussion School Safety Committee Mr Ridgeway okay um we were fortunate today to have Chris Young our Calhoun County Emergency manager come to the meeting I believe that Mr Young had a student said with the record prepaid at one time but we went through and talked about the initiative that we are currently doing um that included so we had bought communication devices uh radios and I'm talking about how those were working we're working with 9-1-1 in the county because we're having some issues with our radios and we think it's a little bit of the towers we want to make sure that our our devices are working well we talked to him about some of the strobe lighting and different things that we put in for outside we've done a lot of work in the Safety

Committee and we're really proud of that and it was nice to hear Mr Young say that it may be as a lower advanced than any other school in accounting is the things that we brought up that were somewhat new that we want to look into Rave alerts we heard a presentation last month and Mr Young was talking about funding that they're trying to secure in the county for a regular and so that is just a way in which we can and staff notify if there's a safety alert within school and then it would alert just like you would on an application it would send alerts out to the staff and then eventually it could be up to the parents as well we talked about the camera camera Grant status of accounting we are looking for

a really large camera upgrade Within the Sewell we want to get to facial recognition so for example let's say we had a threat uh unfortunately we do have you know sometimes have people that threaten the school we know who that person is we put their face into the system they can basically recognize if they come on campus and notify our police officers or our liaison officers District administration so that we know who shouldn't be on staff or I'm sorry on uh on site but also it would be better visual the high definition cameras we talked about our threat assessment training that we've been doing the state of Michigan again is running the threat assessment training it's really good stuff we're going to go back for round two of training in January so that if we

do get a threat especially student threats when they a student says something you know sometimes they say you know they say they help me and they were just joking but we want to go through the entire process to make sure the school is safe and then finally Mr Young and I are gonna are a lieutenant young I should say are going to work on the emergency operation plan I had offered that I would get the other superintendents in the county together and possibly we could work together on a updated emergency operation plan there has to be one in the school we have one or right now but it really is in need of updating to make sure that those those plans are consistent with what the state is they're really talking about vocabulary so you

hear the word lockdown we'll do call outs to uh to parents to say we went on a lockdown we also have something that that we used to call lockout that we went to no entry we want to make sure that everybody in the state of Michigan uses the same verbage so that it's consistent for our emergency Personnel when they come to school so they know exactly what to expect and I think that was the most of the exception in the health district yeah we were really happy I think that Lieutenant young will be at our meetings I think consistently he said he thought he thought he was a clear standard but we did we meet one as a monk uh bring before the board meeting at two o'clock on the money I would definitely say

that it was a reaffirmation of you know the eight years worth of work that has been done by the Safety Committee to you know all the behind the scenes work based on him what he had said it looks like we are in the Forefront of safety as far as Harper tree goes I don't I don't think so some of the other one other large initiative that you probably have seen especially you've been around we put in secured vestibules in the high school and middle school we did not have those previously now someone cannot go from outside into the school without going into the office I think that's critically important that we have that layer of security for you know those threats that might go to the school and I we miss if I didn't mention

that officer Mack he was sent back a room has been a great driver and part of our Safety Committee and um officer Pearson as a vendor with officer Pierce has also been a nice ad and we are looking at potentially bringing out a third officer right now for the elementary so yeah we applied for the grant this is over my assistant in the application so if we receive that Grant then we'll work with them and a third resource office free elementary schools are any questions comments all right let's move on to budget committee Mr ridgeways we've pretty much heard everything uh we would we just simply went over uh the November budget reports but we did talk about when we're going to see the updated budget because we have our student numbers in now and

you as the as the grants when we say grants we mean like federal and state grants title at risk once all those things are in one thing I guess I will mention um you may never realize this there used to be about five grants or so and now we have 22 because of all the different coveted money that came in it's a lot more work and the state is behind and so they keep pushing off deadlines it's not our staff's but they keep pushing the deadlines further so we can't adjust our budget until the ingredients are all in so just as a FYI that a number of Grants is just exploded in the last really three years is that why or anything you want to put in yeah okay check mark there uh nasb conference

update Mr Myers yeah uh first of all I'd like to say too though there's no word again because I usually say this is a time that you can really learn there's a lot of opportunities not just in the classes but and you're sitting at a table and talking to other board members you learn quite a bit what's going on in their district and how they're resolving it so I think that's really important I try to get out and sit at different tables and not with the same group so I can hear what's going on in the other districts um starting with you know I went to a three classes uh overseeing the superintendency I think the important part is to realize that we're an eight-man eight-person team you know some person team we worked together

and I think that's important there is an actual progression of superintendents they start out maybe at a smaller school and worked pretty warming out and they may be looking at going to you know different areas larger schools or you know Regional groups and finally I think one of the main things we get out I got out of that class was we have to make sure our superintendent has quality of life you can't be at on the job 24 hours a day seven days a week we got to make sure that you know it's worth this time and you know that he gets families I think that's really important um another one was ethics in action um you know there's times that we see people going out in Africa behaviors um and I think the part

of it is that you know I feel bad because I'll see it that it might be unethical but I won't say anything I think we need to save and step up when somebody's out of line or going too deep into the weeds as we call it I think it's important that we as a board say to that person hey that's not ethical for you to do so that's not your job so I I think that's one of the things that I got out of that of that class and then developing Norms I think we need to review the Norms we've got two new people coming on and it'll help them to understand how the board works is getting those arms out the last thing I'd like to say is that may SB is doing some

changes in their programs and developing new programs and the one that we should look at is they will bring theirs a class or they'll bring someone to us to discuss diversity equity and inclusion I think we need to keep reminding ourselves of those three things three areas because I think they're important so that we get that education for all students and equality education so it was a good time I was at the assembly the delegate assembly of that was an interesting time and they discussed one of the major discussions was the word sportsmanship and that the word man was on the end of being a good score so the new trains changed that that didn't change it still referred to as good sportsmanship so those kind of things come up I think they're important to

you know review so other than that it is worth your time I will say I haven't been in a probably a year and a half or so to Educators to masp classes and I definitely going back but I've been quite a few over the years and as many as human survivors but you might hold a record and say for that but no no no not even close you've got to be up there close but um you should definitely a high value in those classes audience just for your information masb is Michigan Association of school boards it's where we get our training and when we start on the board we generally take about 10 classes to have a better understanding what our service report looks like so yeah and lastly too I shouldn't let this out

I you know I really support our new board members getting certified and I think all those classes now can be online if they really can't make it sure yeah another piece of that is open there is some reimbursement from the state for school board classes as well so if you're interested any of you there is that full reimbursement for partial reimbursement for classes so any thoughts you know I thought a long time um it was a great time to bond you know work five or six of us and learned a lot but it actually brought us together more support because I fully agreed totally agreed all right we'll move on to uh High School course proposals all right I'm going to pass it over to uh Laura Williams to talk about that we basically have

two classes but we also have a name change that we'll talk about as well or I'll talk about at the end but I'm going to go ahead and have Mrs Williams um discuss when I do beginning strings first I think that's great all right as we are working to take a look at what Larry and I'm doing we might have for our develop our music programming uh Mr Porter's brought to BCC at beginning streams course which is in front of you um so I guess he was going to ask if you have any questions that the units are not fully developed that these would be the bones it looks like a third black glass of skinny but it would be an amount of white block yes sir is just you know more about what we

get for board members review all this information yeah on the screen I have I think it's back there too you can see that that is the information that the board received after getting strange class so that's hard to read if I put about that back and forth so one of the questions that would be that was asked is the financial obligation and there is none disorder Central surgery that we have the resources and our needs inventory that could provide opportunities such as plastic wrong so the proposal is for Seoul the beginning strings and that isn't Magic or the science are for the school year of 23 24. how it works is we try to get as many of the courses before winter break ideally before November and then they go into the course approved they

go into the course catalog and then our counselors will be doing scheduling with our youth when they work on their education development plans in February we have strenuous people over the past and thank you poems ended in 73. I was not here then I was I was yeah they did have strings for a long time for this so it's nice to see you the possibility of coming back and the other point is we're not asking in order to vote on these two courses today this is reformational so if you have further questions you can always ask us if you have any questions okay the second one that um Mr Ridgeway referenced that we were bringing before you is it magic or is it science um and that would be also a modified blog so part

of the work that goes into Course Review is one what how can we better serve the students and get them excited so they're you know wanting to learn some of these things I believe Dr Porter's I can't remember who it was mentioned that as we look at career Pathways these modified blocks can help our youth as well as our courses the third is it's a passion of mine that I want to pursue and so once again the units are not developed they do have a resource that they've included we'd have to select the links if it's impossible lessons that would be developed as a part of this course a phenomenal expense that was come out of the building budget I think it was right around a thousand dollars a few questions on this of course

is that fulfill science it's uh it would be an elective requirement yeah student would only receive a half credit third black classes or five to five black courts courses are half so those are the two that we have coming down the pike legislation we have to have a financial literacy course by next year and so I'm meeting with our social studies teachers because we have any happiness to see do we want to make that part of it but I don't have any proposal for you but I'm just telling you that one's going to be pretty that's going to be coming to you in January hopefully so and then do you want me to do the basic photo uh let's do that in the next agenda but I'll finish this one up with the change in

name so basically news department has research uh Mrs Williams and I about a course called visual literacy and they were getting much of kids that were interested in that class they thought maybe the name was a problem so they they thought if they change it to film interpretation that more kids would be interested I'm not sure if you agree with the internet but they actually asked they asked the students because it didn't match and so they're not it's just like visual literacy I mean as an adult and I know what that means films so but if they films and you say oh we're gonna you know look at some food and things like that to do some interpretation so I am asking you to vote on that tonight if you would so that we can

get that into the course again August no no comments sorry move on to the auto mechanic course resources so the proposal or the objectives from the course with slight changes and the expense um we included one other close but it's um would be to have new textbooks that would be a resource for the classroom they would not own we discussed having them available in our library and call it so if a student would need to take the book home because he or she did not have access to the online resource that that would also be we try to be financially responsible we thought through that so our current teacher um Regal we reviewed the consulted with the career center to because they've been doing that for a while and we wanted it also to be

a bridge that would be smooth so that if young people wanted to go into a career pathway at the career center that this would give them a little case I call these modified block appetizers adults we're doing it right it just gets a little flavor of something and so the apps tonight would be would it be possible to approve the resource so that she can have an updated text and online resource for her students certainly if 50 were amongst the wait you can do that too okay about 8 300 in books yes and so there was also a research in there for safety and so the total quote was 8524 and just to make sure that we didn't have any issues I had said a uh I'm asking for a revolution to up to or

not to exceed nine thousand dollars for auto advance uh this is we have not updated our textbooks auto mechanics since I've been here my understanding is they're so far outdated they're really not used as a side note question to pay sales tax we don't yeah they will remove a lot of times it will get quotes from vendors that have sales tax but before we pay them we want for them what was going on again uh 8524 but do not exceed nine thousand where I'm asking a little bit of a cushion Pacers modifications all right that looks like no further questions on that move on to the new hire all right so uh somewhat unusual but we have a medical teacher Karen Dell she um started the year and a teaching permit was in a program

so we have several of our teachers that are in non-traditional routes to teaching and that's something the state of Michigan really is is pushing so we have people that want to be teachers but they don't have a certificate and so they go through a process so she happened to start with the permit this every year but now she has her teaching certificate and so at that point in time we put that first into the teacher bargaining agreement and the salary schedule so what I would like the board to do is to approve the hire of care and doubt even though she has been here a while but she will now go on to the ba1 on the salary schedule and get me that prorated amount for the rest of this week okay we'll move on

to the superintendent contract um on December 7th myself and Mr Barry Smith from Tim Martin met along with Finance director holdermeyer and finance director was brought in to help us better understand the current Marketplace and compensation structures instructions for other superintendents in our area and also from around the state Memphis understand the parameters and standards of governing those contracts so given the following considerations of our reviews of verbatim as I wrote them down just because I think it'll probably put some color to things superintendent superintendent rage rainbows recently rated highly effective or a second consecutive Year by the Board of Education which is the highest formal rating that a superintendent can be rated number two the committee reviewed 14 out there similar to school summer schools of our size across our area in the state

including Penfield Lakeview Marshall Parma Western Jackson Northwest Coldwater and Hastings committee found that superintendent superintendent Bridgeway is currently the lowest compensated superintendent of all three King districts the committee believes that is imperative to retain top talent at the superintendent's position costs to potentially recruit and attract a new superintendent would be substantial not withstand the disruption and lack of continuity that the district would endure the available candidate rule for experience and highly qualified superintendents it's currently very minimal and number six there are many other superintendent positions open the state that more accurately compensate highly effective superintendents with the experience of superintendent Bridgeway has with those considerations the committee is recommending the following four changes or modifications to his contract extend a super demolitories contract to June 30th 2025 and just as a side note that would

be reviewed again probably sometime in early next year for another year of Edition as we look at this contract about six months late this time I think that was partly due to copen also contract negotiations with the staff increased superintendent bridgeway's annual salary by 8.446 to 152 750 for the 2022-23 contract year increase the salary by eight percent for the 2023-24 and 24 25 Amtrak heaters increased superintendent superintendent richway's annual annuity contribution by two percent of the state salary for the 2000 22 23 23 24 and 24 25 contractors and increased superintendent Ridge Waste annual Travel announced by 2500 for his 2022 23 23 24 and 24 25 contractors any questions from the board members that were not present for the super identic accusation committee meeting it would bring Mr Ridgeway close to the top

of the problem is by the time we get there in three years he's going to be fallen back to the middle of the pack the race to keep highly qualified superintendents is very difficult right now so um well we'll have to continually reevaluate this as we will annually to see where we stand out but we thought it was the right thing to do to uh honor his his uh tenure and standing with Harper Creek to at least put this and there were some other considerations that we considered and so you want to just speak to those some of those considerations in regards to that maximum percentage we can yeah the so the retirement percentage you can only do with an eight point I think it was 8.45 of an of an increase overall um and

that is so you asked where he would be at this first year he'll still be at mobile one but then you know as uh um but you can't increase more than that but the travel again we looked at a lot of different districts I got a couple of the other superintendent contracts that I've worked with um and looked at it and we and we tried to get them looking at the market yeah and especially for Lakeview Marshall and Penfield in addition to the other 15. specifically where there was numerous attendance um we at least 15 percent of us I think I just want to elaborate that or other superintendents that are brand new that are making a significantly more than this originally was so well I mean other than that and Mr Ridgeway is pretty

humble so he's probably not my wife that I'm going to be able to compliments in public like this but at the end of the day um we found an incredibly strong and humble leader which leadership strong humble leadership is is hard to find and even harder to keep and Mr Ridgway has shown uh both by what he says and what he does that he's incredibly fiercely loyal to Harper Creek and uh as a board member as a community member as a parent and a grandparent I think we're incredibly blessed to have him the certainly want to keep him around for the local Mr Meyers at the borders uh did you say two percent on his annuity or two so it is it's a two percent of this base salary it's increase it's an increase so

it's currently it was six okay okay sounds like a fair model and forward is closer side remember that you can't be here all the time okay yeah Mr Speaker all right I know that makes you uncomfortable but you're worth it talking about these gentleman with brains an operation I was just all right we'll move on to the comments from the audience all right Mary Diane income hello hi I'm Mary Diane and then I Live 803 Clark roads Roscoe Michigan recently I came across a book which I was not aware of and I would like to share this title with you and a little bit of the Insight it's called battle for the American Mind by Pete exit in a book he talks about a child going through the American education system spends 16 000 hours

in that K-12 program and he talks about how it's more than just knowledge they're getting they absorb a deep affection because they're young when this all starts out and he says by the end what they have is a feeling for science they think that science is the only way to find truth and then equity and equality there is nothing better or worse just different individualism becomes identity politics government can and should solve all inequalities and it's all about the job it's a book where we're looking into the library has many copies you don't have to buy it you can borrow it but I'm still reading it and learning quite a bit I appreciate the board and all that you do that you work together you listen to the public you listen to the parents and
