um 30 second rain here tonight. >> This meeting is a meeting of the board of education and public for the purpose of conducting the school district's business and it's not to be considered a public community meeting. The agenda reserves two periods for public participation and those wishing to receive a personal response for the board superintendent the public comment form available at the meeting entrance or on our website. Upon request of the superintendent, the district shall make reasonable accommodation for a person with disabilities to be able to participate in this meeting. We need to call the role. >> Mr. Alibre, Mrs. Brutderly >> here, >> Mr. Sapola >> here, >> Miss Kangas >> here, >> Mr. Pisano >> here, >> Mrs. Riser here, Mrs. Aera >> here, Miss Benito, >> Mr. Brandt >> here. >> Okay,

we have minutes from the April 13th uh meeting in our 11th packet. Move that the board of education approve the meeting minutes from April 13th 2026 as presented section I can't be right last week 27 27 yes April 27th as presented we have a motion in a second and any discussion all those in favor of approving the minutes please say I >> any opposed okay um board policy provides that the superintendent of schools shall prepare an agenda for all board meetings of directed by the president of the board of education election I'll move that the board of education approve the agenda as presented. >> I'll second that. >> We have a motion and a second. Any discussion? All those in favor, please say I. I. >> Any opposed? We have no school presentation tonight. Is

that correct? Yeah. Okay. Um and so we are now at our first opportunity for public participation. Is there anyone who would like to address the board? Seeing no one, we will move on to our administrative and work updates starting with the superintendent. >> It's uh I believe it's May. First week of May always kicks off teacher appreciation week and it was really fun bouncing around between buildings today and seeing so many of the wonderful things that students, families, community members, PTOs, and student organizations were doing to really honor our wonderful staff here in Dexter. Uh so we have a week full of great events planned for staff. Saw a lot of coffee coffee trucks being distributed today. It looks like events throughout the week, but we're truly blessed to have the teachers we have here

in Dexter and want to thank them for all that they do. Uh the only other thing I have to report since we see each other last week, I know the students will have some great updates for us. Dexter League had their annual opening day which was a wonderful success. Just a real testament to the community. Uh no parking within four square miles it feels like to get there. Uh, but everyone shows up. It's a really special event. They do a terrific job and it's so fun to see all of our young men and women showing up in their team of colors to support one another. So, just a real special day. >> Okay. Um, just a quick update that our information about the next steps for the sex ed curriculum um did go out to

the community in a email blast. It is also posted in at least four or five other uh areas on our district website under attendance um uh page and it is accessible to anyone in the community who wants it. So if you have questions, please refer people there. The first opportunity for uh public review of the curriculum is Wednesday morning this week and then there is an evening time that I don't want to misquote next week. >> Next Thursday, >> Thursday, Thursday night next week. Um, and so those are the next steps to make sure our community gets the word out. Um, and I anticipate that we will start as board receiving email feedback um, as soon as people start reviewing the curriculum. So, as with last time, we just take it all in and and

we will make sure the community knows that we've heard them and um, we have the several weeks of this. So, that's it for me. And just for a point of clarification, that's only the um sections that were sent back to >> only the parts that the board asked for modifications are returning to this part of the process. >> And is are those sessions is that like there's going to be a read through of those new materials or is it just if you put them in the materials will be there, you can check them out. What's the format? >> The second it is it is independent. uh it's the usually there is a brief introduction that helps people understand the context and the process and then people are free to uh review and move through the

materials. Some people want to look at all of it. Some people have specific grades they want to and we recognize that not everyone who's interested in the materials aren't able to come at these times. Oh, in the fall we had a significant amount of participation in this part of the process such that the board did receive trending comments which helped us make our decisions. So that's what we're looking for at this is this stage is like specific trending comments. So there are particular lessons or particular things um that have similar types of things that's what causes us to to kind of review differently. So, we're anticipating the same sort of process this time. Okay. Um, so we'll move on to our student representatives. And if you guys could just turn your microphone on. Thank you.

>> Um, not too much since last week. Testing is now there's a full week of testing. I've heard it's gone pretty smoothly so far. No complaints. So, um, hopefully it stays that way and we can get through it nice and easy. Um, but I think it being in that hallway is working pretty well. And I mean even the classes that have had been moved I think it's been able to adjust. Um this week for tennis um we have a match Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday's at home so it's one of our last matches. So if you still want to see one um and then the mon next Monday is our senior night right before which is on Wednesday which will also be at Dexter. So lots of opportunities to see tennis before the season ends. Um,

lacrosse is also having their senior night soon. It is the 8th, which should be Friday, against I think it's Skyline. So, go out support teams on senior night. Is always great when the community can come together and support the seniors, support the teams. Um, this week is also senior survivor at the high school. So, we kicked off um with some fun challenges today. We had them do an idol surge. Different teachers have had idols and they had to do little um puzzles and challenges for them. I know that Parker Bates had an idol and they made them do a complete against the freshman. Some of the seniors did not um successfully complete that quiz um even with three tries. So, the freshmen are learning something and yeah, maybe the seniors need to catch up on

their history, but it was definitely a fun experience for the seniors and it was nice getting other students involved during the day with the challenges. So, yeah, I'm excited for it. >> Yeah, but I also do not have too much. Robotics did go to worlds over the past week. They got back on Sunday. I've been a Ford. They placed at semifinals which is just amazing. They are so great at what they do and knowing so many kids on the team. They are absolute geniuses. So excited to see what the future holds for them and the robotics team. It is teacher appreciation week at DHS as well. we had at breakfast this morning. Um I think 5050 supplied by Miss Lumpy is our NHS adviser and the other 50 being the NHS students. Um which we

doubled as our NHS board meeting before a general meeting on Wednesday. Um it was a great success. I was able to push around the cart and give coffee to teachers of danishes and cookies. It was great. Um the drama club did singing in the rain this past weekend. A lot of tears have senior speeches. Um, this is very tight-knit community we have and I got to go see the show. I hope you all did as well. It was amazing. And our band concert is this Thursday at 7 p.m. >> question. May 18th public hearing regarding sex education curriculum update. Is that the first meeting for the sophomore student? We >> we have not yet double check it. Okay. question about that. Not do that. >> Yeah, bad idea. >> Thank you for that feedback. >>

Great. Thank you very much. Um, we do not have any consent items tonight, so we are just going to move right on to action. First up is series one bid package six, the high school additions, partial editions. Um, our packet includes a recommendation letter and bid calculation from Ranger for series 1 bid package six, the DHS additions project. This was reviewed by the facilities committee on April 28th and it's been recommended to the board for vote approval. I get a motion before discuss. I move that the board of education award contracts for series 1 bid package number six Dexter high school entrance wavering additions demolition passed in place concrete masonry structural steel general trades roofing metal wall panels aluminum and glazing drywall and acoustical resilient flooring. hard tile, heating and wall coverings, fire suppression, plumbing

and piping, mechanical site asphalt and site concrete as outlined in the attached recommendation letter dated April 28th, 2026 for a total amount not to exceed 9,242,52 and assign the contract to furniture for catchment. All sir, we have a motion and a second. Let's discuss. a lot of this. >> Yes. >> Very thorough. >> So these are the high school editions. This is both the main entrance and the CTE classroom uh back. Hope we have the fly through again. But this is basically all the bid packages except electrical and earth work. We did receive multiple bids in all categories including electrical and earthwork. There were some uh items in the two of those that we wanted to take a little bit of a deeper dive before we recommended those. So those will come to the next

facility committee meeting. Uh but all other categories are being recommended. Um as I mentioned this is for both the uh front edition as you can see there the front entrance and the weight room uh front of the uh gymnasium and then go around to the side. It will include the uh CT class transmission as well as uh reconfiguration of the sidewalk. >> Yeah. >> So that's where where it says Dector High School >> new entrance. >> That's new entrance. The current answer is right behind that, right? >> Good question. You'll see when we pass through kind of change over the tile and you'll see a door frame. But this is all new entrance and this is building the secure entrance through the office. Uh Dexter High School was our last building that does not yet

have this. So this will create the security which will be accessible to everybody as they come in. These will be locked doors and then either buzz through or or open at the start of the day. Uh coming down here, this is about where the existing building starts. If that breaks the tile right there, uh that's the entrance. So existing first entrance into the gym bas. So the track would remain the same, but as you can see, we would open up these overhead doors into this new weight room that would be constructed. The wall we just passed through is the current existing exterior wall. be a new space with acoustical panels hanging from the ceiling as well as acoustical deck above uh to help control the noise. uh rubber flooring, a lot of open space uh

for these racks uh to help support the air and grad system, both class uh and before and after school activities. As well as this will be the uh before and after school access for athletes only, not uh visitors uh not spectators but athletes into the gymnasium. Oh, >> clear signage that say essentially that. >> Yes. >> Yeah. And and really focusing on the signage that Dexter High School right there. This is the main entrance of the school. Go in here. Not pick a door, any door. It's choose this one. >> What's the extent of our snow melt system? So, uh, currently what's in the bid package is from the stairs back, including the ramps. Okay. >> Uh, and the entire raised portion. >> Okay. That's great. >> Yeah. >> By that, I mean there's a

heating element. >> Yeah. >> Yes. Yeah. So an hydronic system, a fluid system, a small boiler package inside the building that would keep that uh that would keep the salt away from the door so not as much gets tracked into the building, not as much as salt against the aluminum frames frames that has caused some of the um issues with door frames up to this point. uh as well as in off hours uh you know when we don't have buildings to ground staff for a 7:00 show or or game that if there was a late snow that it would be played alert I'm sure there's obvious benefits in terms of safety and and maintenance and performance I'm sure there's also some offset of cost savings there just less less area we have to clear and

all that so >> and salt tracking or Nothing >> right. Yeah. >> Uh Granger T have done really well to design a solution for our needs, really make it uh as economical as it can be. I mean, we saw a few iterations of design that were more than we needed. And this is a really nice design that looks like it was part of the building. Uh it looks like a proper entrance to a high school. was very clear where to go in and the new weight room doesn't feel like it's overshadowing that entrance. So, they've really done well to listen to feedback from uh the facilities committee and from stakeholders to really design something that looks like it was part of the original design. We also have part of this big package and Greg will

have a chance to share uh the new CTE space which he shared uh some of the items but Greg you want to walk us through a little bit what what this space looks like as well. We don't have the 3D rendering or sending images to Jim. >> So that is currently the exterior wall that you see right there. That is uh right now there are two shipping container sitting outside next to the theater entrance. Um so this is being built at that space. Uh that opening goes into what is currently Bill Ivans uh >> wood shop classroom area. uh expanding that making it a much larger classroom allow for um significantly more tool area building areas. We'll also include a outdoor foundation uh so that larger uh buildings, houses really can be built uh for

the um for the classes uh if they want to get it to a building like I think it's a 1200 square foot house uh as part of as part of the curriculum. Um, and then it also includes some minor modifications to the interior to the existing classroom, but it's it's primarily creating this flexible open space with a storage mezzanine uh that you can see in the background there uh with a tool underneath it. So, a lot of additional storage, a lot of open space um to allow for just again a lot of flexibility, a lot of additional building space for this program to grow um and and change as as time progresses. Um >> it is a clearly it's not bare bones. There's a lot of of items that can be done in there, but

it is a utilitarian space. And we're spending money on creating the space so that uh it can be used for CTE. Um these are hard surfaces that uh and you can use as a shop space. So it's so it's a nice space. I like it. But it's it's going to be concrete and bought and gravel. and the the things we'll put in there in terms of tools, equipment, things that will be available. That's a different different topic, different discussion, different budget, I assume, right? Uh it's not part of the construction we're going to that will be a braided uh purchase. So there will be some funds available to equip part of the room. We also have the CTE millillage which will be supporting infrastructure materials equipment. Uh and then we also have access to other

funds to help with this. So it won't fully come out of bond funds but we are able to tap into some bond funds for some existing >> not part of the award still >> not part of this >> just today but there are funds available for furnishings equipment for this space. >> Chaw press says we do have some quite a bit of equipment right now. Okay. >> Yes. >> And they are programmed in the space both current and future equipment so that um both the utilities for them and the space for them are are accounted for. As always prepared for you open packets. So as you thumb through you'll notice uh the different bid categories. You'll see the estimate that Granger provided for us based on the initial drawings from our architects TMP and you'll

see that reflecting estimate column and then you'll see the recommended contract amount that's working with the least responsive bidder. Again, Greg and his team are interacting interviewing with all the biders to make sure that there's clear understanding of the scope of work and that they're going to be able to fulfill the work as described. Uh and once again, Granger's done a great job working to get us many many bids under estimate, which is just terrific. Uh and we we gave them a pat on the back kudos. The estimates were pretty close this time around. So, all things considered, we're within a really tight margin for this project and things are looking terrific. Uh there two plug numbers here, Greg, you want to just share with those electrical and civil, they are uh depend which number

you look at, they are they're not in that 9.2 2 million. Uh they are in the the 13 million overall number. Uh we think that it will come in fairly close to that 13 million number once those are added in. that includes both an additional parking lot out by the twin turfs. Uh basically the additional uh student parking lot um uh directly across from the turf entrance uh as well as all the u revised blocks going into building that we discussed and the electrical uh for the uh for the spaces that we looked at today. Uh so those two packages we did receive bids as I mentioned there were some issues that we just wanted to do some more interviews with before we recommended them but uh we have done those interviews they weren't ready

for recommendation today but we do feel confident they'll fall in those um uh budget numbers so we'll be close to the overall estimate uh for the uh for the project. This project also includes and you talk about the electrical um some work in the CPA for uh enhanced sound and reporting abilities in CPA. We'll talk about that at the next facility committee and board. >> I have a couple questions. Um yes, thanks for the presentation. It's always a bit >> um the first page of your summary, this this one that gives you all the link down to the 9.2 million. >> Yes. you there's a a note in here that says that the for the treasury department the budget this uh budget is 11.1 at the end does that include the um the two bids

that we did receive was that the original budget >> it it is the original budget it does not include when I talked about the additional parking area and the um work in the theater is about a million dollars so the estimate is still over that original budget amount Um we intentionally move money in to make up for that but it is um a choice of needs to increase that >> estimate of 13 million versus a lot of Okay. Yep. >> And then um I was wondering about I can't remember where we landed regarding um manic parking and making the building more accessible to older uh individuals. Did we do anything down by the CPA so that older people can come in like have a shorter walk than that? >> So the the new entrance and

actually Brian we can go back there. >> The thought is that the the parking is going to be fairly similar in that there will be a a you know a row of uh accessible parking right up front. um about the same number of visitor spaces and accessible spaces in that front parking lot. The um being in the building is now going to be significantly closer. I think it's about 100 feet closer. So, you'll be in the building able to stop wait uh if needed. So, you're always, you know, the distance from the parking lot to the theater. There's not much you can do. to shrink that um uh because of where the theater is located within the building, but we are now closer to being inside the building. Uh we have a large seating area

right inside those doors that are now significantly closer to the parking lot than they previously were. So, for instance, I think of um the band concerts um like when we have uh like what's it called? the the big one >> extra hands up. >> Extra hands. Thank you. Uh we have a lot of people waiting, a lot of grandparents that would love to just go down sit in bleachers while we're waiting. They'll now have a place where they can sit um right inside the doors. So they don't have to walk the entire distance and wait. Now we have a much closer area. So I feel like it is an improvement. Again, there is you do have to get halfway into the school before you're at the theater, but this is a uh it is an

improvement. So, >> so there's no additional parking down by the by the >> It will be the same parking hanging over the parking area. >> Okay. So, we're not losing parking down there >> only for during the construction. >> Okay. >> Here. >> So, possibly look at a way to >> I think there's a desire for us to look at that. We absolutely can. As Greg mentioned, that's going to be a little bit of a like landing area for construction. And so I'm sure after the dust settles there, we're going to have to repaint, restripe, and we can absolutely talk about if it makes sense to ask >> I don't know issue or not. I know >> we we might go to that for sure. >> But I just >> Yeah. Yeah. And the truth

is if they're going to look at it, it could be the other side as well. Just with a single there's things to consider. Again, >> one quick question. So the the total the 9,242,52. So the the estimated amount of the electrical and earth work is four million. So, does that are we exceeding the $1 million budget? >> Uh, yes. Yeah. The estimate amount was um sorry, 138 will be a little under the estimated. We will exceed that original uh state budget amount of 11 million. We chose to exceed that based on the scope. And by we, I mean the design committee, the school uh TMB ranger. Um as we discussed what we wanted to see in the scope of work, uh what we wanted to bring forward including parking theater work. Um we chose to

move more money into this project, bring it up to the 13.8 million will be under that number will be over the original 11 number. And just a reminder in the imperfect analogy, the initial budget is, "Hey, we're thinking about renovating our kitchen." And you go online, you say, "How much does a kitchen renovation cost?" They give you a rough number, $40,000. And then you go down and you start designing your perfect kitchen. You're working with an architect and you meet with a cons a builder and they say, "Well, the kitchen you've designed is actually $55,000." And you have to make a decision. Am I going to find and free up $15,000 of another project in the house or am I going to scale back on my design and get back to that 40,000? Right? So,

you have to really think about that. And so, I think right now is what we're hearing. Then we go out to bid and we say, "Well, we can get this kitchen device for more or less than the other and we're trying to put together the best package for our complete jobs." Not a perfect analogy, but >> and again, remind me where are we today total? What's the total bond that was approved versus what we got? >> Yeah, right now things are trending good. We're on a positive trend. We are under budget at the moment, but we still have a few high ticket items out there that we're waiting for numbers to come back. I think there's roughly eight bids categories out there across the campus that you all receive in the next couple of weeks.

Uh so, Ranger is working to get the final package. So when we were at the fieldhouse, roughly 50% of the work had been bid out. We're waiting for the other half the earthwork to come back. You'll at the next board meeting, we'll have the rest of series one for you all. So you'll have a very clear picture of where we are. >> So maybe to complete the inbound. >> I'm sure you do. I don't have the cash. >> Yeah, we we're very slightly. >> Are we a third of the way through the bond? Are we halfway? So we are so series one has 40 million of the 200 million in construction dollars and we're >> 30ish bid out but yeah >> so so we're about threequarters of the way through series one which is >>

excited about it. >> That's fine. Big big picture question. How far are we through this thing? Thank you. >> Any >> yeah a couple more. Um so really a new new wait room and some new office space. What's the impact to the existing weight room and existing office space? >> Uh so the existing office for the year of construction uh the reception area will have a temporary spot on first floor um just because that'll be where the new entrance is coming down next to the cafeteria and to counselor's office. Okay. >> Um but then it will go back basically as is. There will still be that the new reception space may get reconfigured slightly. Um but that's kind of to be determined. Uh there's a little bit of let's wait and see how the new

space functions before we'll really determine if the office will or how the office will be renovated. also frankly let's let the new principal get in and see you know how how that is functioning too um that the uh existing wave room um that'll be a a space that'll be >> and that'll be a choice for the administration um facility committee etc to decide what to do with that space. We don't have plans for it right now. could be allowed that could still be another gym space. That would make the most sense, but I think we can do all sorts of things. >> Quick question, Greg. Is there an entrance? >> Is there now general student entrance the counselor door right there instead of that buswood door? I believe that uh so we're going to have

everybody walk around um through the amphitheater right now and so they will be able to enter in the cafeteria the classroom pod entrance the bus entrance right now or through the counselor office the exterior door will be added >> and if we're moving the administrator office into the counselor's >> just the reception area the administrator's still be outstanding. >> Thank you. >> Couple more. Sorry. Um so like the example of the CPA, you know, we're kind of working in the electrical with that and with the electrical with with this in general with all these different projects on going on or planned. um you know, how much have we looked at or been able to consolidate some of the especially the infrastructure work like with the fieldhouse for instance and the new bathroom that's already well

underway at the turfs and some of the some of the infrastructure work that has to be done for this like has there been much opportunity to do some of that all at once and not have to you know >> redig up the same places and things like that? So for instance uh there was civil uh infrastructure work in series 1, three and four and we have moved all of that into series one. So this parking lot addition that I was talking about some reworking the sidewalks drives all that was spread out throughout the bond. We're looking at all to now. So rather than do part of it now coming back and doing it little bits at a time we're going to do it all at once. Um uh similarly it basically any room we're touching

we're saying hey does it make sense to do all of the work to the space now most of the time it does sometimes it doesn't sometimes we need like for instance the office we need to see what happens to the space after we've opened up these other ones before we can really determine if it needs any further work but most of the work we have left in series 3 and the for is back in the classroom, which is an area we're not really touching during this uh series before. So then we're not going to be going back into spaces we've already modified. So trying to be conscientious of that very thing. >> Anyone else? And I know to your question, I know when we approved the tree uh restroom projects, uh they took into account

things. So that was already for >> Yes, we are sharing trenches for both the sanitary water between the two graduates. >> Right. Any other questions? Are we ready to vote? >> Let's do a roll call, please. >> Mrs. Brutderley. >> I Mr. Mr. Sulla. >> Hi, >> Miss Kangas. >> Hi, >> Mr. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Riser. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Sera. >> Hi. >> Great. Next up, we have the wellness center saw. Our packet includes an executive summary of our festival operations here regarding necessary repairs to the saw at the faster wellness center. This was reviewed by the facilities committee on April 28th and are recommended to the board for approval. I'll move that the board of education award though wellness center sauna replacement project to pro carpentry for a total cost not to

exceed 30,000 to be funded by the 2017 bot and second we have a motion and a second discussion still 2017 bond money >> 2020 2017 that's right wrap it up aren't we >> and so we're trying to use the rest I'm not trying to use but this is a a good is one one of those things that's going towards it. That's right. >> This is pretty straightforward. I don't have any 3D fly through or anybody unfortunately. I would probably be banned from the wellness center, but I tried to create one. Uh this is pretty straightforward though. uh that both the men's and women's sauna rooms at the wellness center have deteriorated for uh typical commercial use and are now at the point where in order to maintain the same standards that they've come to appreciate

and uh require for their membership they need to be replaced. Primarily talking about the benches and the walls for the the two sas uh three bids were secured. You can see broke came in our way in the lowest bid and the local contractor there that we would like to focus >> just on the the 2017 bond allocation. So this was money specifically allocated towards the wellness center. Correct? Is is that am I reading that correctly? There's there's money remaining in the 2017 bond that we received an opinion that we that uh properties that had been acquired or built during the duration of the bond would be would be an allowable expense to use bond dollars on. So is this a permissible expense? >> Because this one expires when >> the bond we're just trying to

we're trying to spend out the 2017. >> I understand. But when we purchase it after >> that was the ruling we had clarified. There's language in the there was language in the proposal that allowed us to use bond dollars on properties that were built or acquired >> after. Thank you. >> Thank you for that. And we just to clarify too, we had some amazing financial management of the 2017 bond which has allowed more overage than we expected and that is how a lot of our remaining projects that have come to the board in recent years have um that still being allocated from 2017. So we are close but there are still a few more that are pending. We refinanced them a couple times. So the savings I think is significant. Um so yes so the

facilities committee talked about this and just talked about generally how you know wellness center projects were being funded and um I think everyone understood that in order to keep the you know the needs of the wellness center which we own um that this was a project that would be um a wise use of our funds at this point. So, do we anticipate additional I guess I mean when we when we talked about the public center as you know there was a lot of discussion about how much it could cost to maintain etc etc. So I just want to make sure we're we're upfront about the fact that there is ongoing maintenance required to um uh just that they won't I guess the question is exactly the answer to the significantly bond you know I think

that the community would be interested in. >> Yes there there it's absolutely topic we should further develop. Uh the wellness center has given us a schedule. We worked with them to figure out what the next 5 to 10 years look like for that building. That was included in the 2025 bond proposal. So there were monies allocated in the 2025 bond proposal for the wellness center. Uh and then we are working internally to develop a process and how uh we'll work with our partners at the wellness center to schedule request uh repairs or excuse me rebuilds across the duration of the bottom. >> Thank you. >> So going back to my question which I think I I think I get now. So this we have a we have a a conclusion or finding or opinion. We

can use this money for this purpose. Yes. It does not have to be used for the wellness center. >> Correct. >> And it could be in theory used for other purposes throughout the district. Right. Outside of the wellness center. >> Okay. And did we look into because the wellness center generates revenue. There are members that pay fees to go to the wellness center and use the sauna. Did we look into ways to fund it? I don't know what Mr. Ber is talking about developing that strategy to, >> you know, see what's feasible with that. The conversation at the facilities committee um really centered around the fact that we all had the same shared values of making sure that the wellness center was taken care of in an appropriate way and that doing so did not

hinder other opportunities that the school district had. Um and so be able to clarify. I mean it it was specifically named in the 2025 bond. So voters do expect um it's an order of magnitude of several billion um towards the wellness center from the 2025 bond. So it does give us the opportunity to look more specifically and strategically. I think so much of the wellness center has sort of like it's been a really slow avalanche and so I think we're now the board and the district at a point where okay things are more stable and now we're getting into the you know daily use and maintenance and so now it's like okay now we have time to start thinking about how are we perceiving so I think there was a a shared understanding that we

wanted to look deeper into this and that while we were doing that we needed to manage some of this. Um, and so since the 2017 bond funds, we have been able to kind of manage smaller projects with the board has over the last like year or so. Um, it felt like an okay use of money and so that's where facilities, but if if people have other ideas, you know, we can certainly talk about them, but that's where we landed for this project. >> I'm sure I missed this budget. Is the wellness center? Yes. Okay. more that >> uh we just received an update earlier today. Right now trends are good. We are working to align their fiscal year with our fiscal year which will make it much easier in the future to give you an

accurate answer to that question. Right now we're operating on different fiscal years which there's always a little bit of catchup but right now projections are good. They were able to >> they were able to utilize some of their operational uh to address some internal issues. So they too are heing some costs for uh repairs in in the building as well. >> Yeah, I think that was allowed in their message from the community is that we don't want to have to bond or subsidize the operations. And so if we if we don't make investments in the property and membership falls, uh you know, that's that's a bad financial decision for us as well. So I would put it that way. >> You know, we want to make sure that that we that the the engine keeps

going. >> Yeah. Yeah, I don't think I'd ever be in dream of us covering operation with >> agree with that. But you have an obligation to maintain the building, you know, we get so and we just have to work out that model, >> by community, by students. >> Yeah. >> Resource for all. Right. >> By way of example, um I think before you came on the board, David, we used the 2725 or something. Was it lights at the the lighting at the football field like the the 50? >> Yeah, something was at it. So, we have used it for like other things before the the new bond pass like we the 2017 bond we used for we approved to to change the light bulbs and that was good. I I I these are all helpful

points. I appreciate it. I think, you know, with everything that we've improved, you know, there's there's always going to be some portion of the community that says, "Well, I'm never going to see any benefit from that." I think in this particular one, it's going to be an extremely small portion that can use it directly benefits, but I think for a lot of the reasons that you all have mentioned, I think, you know, everyone that goes to the wellness center doesn't use the sauna, but I think it's one of those things that if it's not in good shape, it will start to affect the way people see the overall facility. So, and it looks like we've got a really competitive uh bid at this point. So, um, yes. So, I appreciate the discussion. Ready to support

it. >> Any other questions? >> All right, let's show a call vote. >> Mr. Hi, >> Miss Kangas. >> Hi, Mr. Pisano. >> Hi, >> Mr. Riser. >> Hi, >> Mrs. I. >> All right, we have Thank you, Bill. Uh we have one discussion item tonight and that is the WISD budget. Our packet includes a presentation and draft WD budget for 2627. Local district board of education uh must consider a resolution of support for or disapproval of the proposed general fund budget and may indicate specific recommendations for consideration or changes by Monday, June 1st. This item was presented for discussion only this evening and it will return for action on May 8th. Unfortunately, um Dan did attend the budget presentation for our uh board is not here tonight. Um I have been in the past,

Jennifer has been in the past. Um I know Jennifer to jump in too, but I know that generally speaking it is a very clearly laid out budget. they are very specific with how they are um using their funds and they are very open to ask to answering any questions. So if as a board we've had questions this is our opportunity to get more information and they have a very prescribed process so that it must come for discussion before we um pass a resolution. So that is why there is the two meeting um that's why it's going to show up in our packets for two meetings. Does anyone have questions or Jennifer is there anything you want to just say generally to the board about it? Well, I haven't studied if it just looks pretty. >>

This is just general education. If not, you know it's correct. >> Special education. >> Okay. Special educ. >> Okay, that's totally fine. Um, and I know they did send out a link to the presentation so that people who want to get more information or just better understand how the WSD works with the um, local districts can always sort of reference that as well. >> Um, I would propose that if any of us have liked down questions, we just Yeah, that's fine. That is fine. Seems I mean they're basically projected through themselves. Just I guess a general question. This the funding this funding is all directly from property taxes. None of this is like flowing through our budget and then to Wisdom, right? This is >> they fund us. >> This is going the other way

around. >> Yes, we get our special ed money from them. >> Okay, understood. I'll make sure they get this. >> We're happy to talk about it's a long one when you go to the meeting, too. >> They're very thorough. >> They are. >> But yes, because our county pays a special ed village, we are funded 100%. But like a one-year delay, >> right? Generally speaking, >> okay, that's a that's a like short hand that we're not taking any action to make. >> So if people have questions, they can. >> Okay, is time for our second opportunity for public participation if there's anyone who would like to address the order. Seeing no one, we can move to board comments. And do you want to have anything that you notes? >> I'll just say uh again what

um Lloyd was talking about with worlds with robotics. Congratulations to them. Um unbelievable set of mentors. Um they give so much time to our our students and their their hearts are really in it and um they they give a lot and our students are all better for it. um they learn so many skills through coding um rapid prototyping um all kinds of mechanical um so it's it's a great program and we really appreciate them so congratulations gent >> absolutely >> anybody else >> all right our packet includes um our sex ed adon committee minutes from April 22nd includes facilities limits from April 28th and we do have two close sessions this evening. Um, so we voted a motion to move this to close session and let's do a five minute 30 for people. I move

the board of education move into close session for the purpose of discussing materials exempt disclosure. Can we do the second one as well as we do want to do one at a time? Okay. So we have a motion and a second. Any discussion? Let's do the roll call, please. Miss Kangas. >> Hi, Mr. Pisano. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Riser. Hi, >> Mrs. Sera. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Brderley. Hi, >> Mr. Sapola. >> Hi. >> All right, we'll take a quick recess in case anyone needs to prefill all these questions.
