001Good evening everyone. >> Happy new year. This meeting is a meeting of the board of education in public for the purpose of protecting the school district's business and it's not to be considered a public community meeting. The agenda reserves two periods for public participation and those wishing to receive a personal response from the border superintendent must complete a public comment form available at the meeting entrance and on our website. Upon request to the superintendent, the district shall make reasonable accommodations for a person with disabilities to be able to participate in this meeting. Oh, can you please call the role? >> Mr. Oliver, >> here. >> Mr. Arnold, >> Mrs. Brutderly >> here. >> Mr. Sakola >> Here. Miss Risen >> here. here. >> Bento, Mr. Br >> here. >> Thank you. Um, we have meeting

002minutes from our December 15th meeting in our packet. I'll move that the board of education approve the attachments from December 15th, 2025 as presented. >> Sorry. >> We have a motion and a second. Any discussion? All those in favor of approving the meeting minutes as presented, please say I. I. Any opposed? Um, the board policy provides that the superintendent of schools shall prepare an agenda for all board meetings as directed by the president of the board. Do I have a motion for the agenda? >> I would move that the board of education approve the agenda as presented. >> I'll second. >> Uh, we have a motion and a second. Any discussion? All those in favor of approving the agenda as presented, please say I. >> I. Any opposed? >> All right. First up is our

003school presentations starting with board education recognition. >> January recognition schools just wanted to share a few words and appreciation for each one of you and all that you do for us and the district. School leadership begins with understanding what students care how they lighten the load. Dexter Board of Education trustees are champions of learning. They continually advocate for our students by providing opportunities for every student to develop their full potential, offering a well-rounded state-of-the-art education and inspiring students, staff to engage with their subjects, their peers, and the world around them. The board's thoughtful work ensures that student achievement goals and progress guide decision-making, that district spending focuses on responsible, effective use of educational funding, and that facilities are safe and good repair, and that the board decisions represent the entire community. These backpacks, as small

004tokens of appreciation, represent the incredible collection of information, tools, and processes that the trustees use every day to enlighten students loads and help make Dexter an outstanding learning community. Because our meetings this month are a little broken up by our board workshop, we'll celebrate twice. So, we're really thrilled to celebrate you today and early in February, we'll have some celebrations and gratitude from DA as well as our buildings. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Thank you so much. Backpacks are really great. Next up, um we have a bond project update. We have TMP here to share updates on the following bond projects. All right stadium improvements, DHS soccer, softball and baseball improvements, the WY edition, the CTE building and trades wood shop and edition or the CTE edition um DHS secure entrance and wait room

005edition and the build house. Because there is so much material to cover board, I'm going to ask you to make notes with any of your questions and then we will go back at the end and we'll allow them to kind of present a coherent u presentation so that members who watch this later can see a full u presentation if that makes sense. >> Thank you. Um and can we just make sure that the video is pointed towards a screen for this? >> Does that make sense? it will capture it. >> Share the presentation alongside it so Okay, perfect. >> Thanks. I just think there's gonna be interest. So, >> thank you. All right, we will turn it over to you guys. And to turn on your microphone, you just have to push and hold for

006a minute till the red light comes on. >> All right. Uh, thank you for having us present tonight. very excited about the projects that that we've been working on with the school and with Granger and with uh the administration. My name is Mary Kay Lancaster. I'm the project manager for the 2025 Dexter Bond. >> I'm Mark Steer. I'm project designer on the bond. >> And John Bhan. I'm director of sustainability for team. So we have a we have a PowerPoint presentation and in between we're um going to break off into some uh 3D flythroughs. So we'll start with the with the um and just an overview of where we are in case anybody's in case we need to refer back to all your schools there kind of near each other which is really uh nice

007thing about Dix schools. Uh we might be a little bit out of order but I think this was the order we were given so I decided to keep it after after we said. So um we're going to start at the WY Elementary School. WY Elementary School will have an addition um here at the at the end of the existing school right there. Uh it's important to have that addition at seven classrooms um because we're going to use it as surge space once Creekide starts. Um and so students can move in there. When they move back out, the rest of this the renovation can take place at at WY. Um there'll be a a pathway right through this um community here through the uh solar panels. There's also a ramp and stairs sticking up from um

008here where the playground is. The field will be affected a a small amount. Um, and the top of the field is going to be refreshed. Here's the layout. There's there's seven classrooms. Six of them are connected to each other wall for um future collaboration between between the the teachers. There's some restrooms down here that are similar to what we have at the desk. Hold on one second. where you're coming in at at the area into the classroom. Uh there's a there's a sort of a teaching wall with a a large LED screen. There's a um area for one-on-one with students there. The the thing that you saw just happened there is the um marker boards that are magnetic that will go they can cover that and or they can cover the um the cubbies there

009which is kind of helpful for anybody who's sensitive to kind of chaotic chaotic things. Um, as you go through the corridor, there's seating outside each row for um some collaborative uh teaching. There's there's these are representing lockers. We're going back toward the the bathroom area and the vestibule. Uh just showing the how that works with the the sinks on the outside. The team has been incredible. The finishes you see in this video are the actual finishes that the WY staff picked last Friday at their finish meeting. So Sarah and Alex came with a whole bunch of options and presented a few different pallets, schemes, materials. Y staff got a chance to feel, feel, touch, think about it. They picked an initial design and you see that represented in the video today. >> Uh not yet.

010Thanks. the teaching staff that say >> teaching staff liked these um circles as ways of sort of like um saying, "Oh, you know, if you if you're this u if you're with this group, you go on this smaller yellow circle where you go on the bench or things like that is very helpful." All right, back to our >> We're gonna talk about Albert Stadium for a moment. We have a um an entry that's um getting refreshed and redone here. Previously, people came through this um opening between the team rooms, the the um the tunnel um and now um there's a design that um instead gives a branded look to that corner. Um, there's going to be uh new uh heavy duty paving down here. There's two ramps and steps that will take you down into

011this open area of of RIT. There's also we have a smaller building that's right here. Not much is happening, but it's going to get a new roof and uh also the airborne will be put up on top of it. the important air horn. Um here's the the image of what those uh gates will look like with uh you know calling attention to this is this is the entrance now and obviously it's the dreadnots. Um moving on to the the high school. Look at this area here for the outdoor athletics. Here's the area that we're going to talk about, the triangle area where our new uh new gate there. Um there's a few a few new things going on there, but kind of making just a little bit of more of an entry point here with

012a a decorative fencing gate. Not not anything like what's happening at at Altit, but just kind of cleaning it up and and making it um noticeable that this is where you're going to enter into there. And then the softball fields and our softball field and baseball field are getting new bleachers. And the bleachers are moving forward. So that there was a vision um problem previously where it was hard to see past the the um the dugout. I bleachers dug out. Um also there's uh new back stops happening. So this is happening in both of them. The bleachers uh have the same amount of seats for softball and baseball. Let's try a composite plan of the high school because that's what we're going to talk about next. The CTE edition is happening over here and here.

013This is um upper level and lower level. Uh and then this is the entry and uh fitness edition at the front door. We'll talk about CT first and Mark is going to take over that CT uh addition that we're looking at here. The See if I can get the mouse to move. This is the existing wall, exterior wall of the high school right here. So everything to the left of that, this area here is new. That's an addition. And this colored area here is renovation. So we've got an existing office in here. And this is broken up currently right now, but we're going to break it up a little different with a instructional space here, but we're calling this circulation, but this is going to have some small tools in here and in this corner

014here. Then we've got some big shop tools, woodworking shop tools in this area here. An assembly area in this area of the new shop. And then a paint and finishing area at this end of the shop here with a work room kind of tucked into the back back here with a mezzanine over the top of it. So we've got a storage mezzanine right here, a stair that goes up to that. So >> and um in the scene shop we we're proposing a second scene second mezzanine. Well the only mezzanine in the scene shop. So it would be a new mezzanine uh to really give them more storage. They're lacking significant storage in in the scene shop. So, this is a solution on the table right now. Uh create basically since it's such a high bay

015bay area, we're looking to kind of put a mid level floor in there with stair uh up to a storage space in that city or in that scene shop there. >> Sorry, just to repeat, this is the drama area >> right right here. This is the back of stage right here. >> Okay. This is the hallway in the back. >> Yeah, >> these are the dressing rooms >> and this is the scene shop. >> So, we're looking at putting that mezene here in the scene shop. >> Uh, looking just at some really in progress three-dimensional work for this. Uh, this is a view from the me the mezzanine in the CTE the new CTE edition looking down over the existing shop. So this this is a big new overhead door with high bay windows, clear

016story type windows to bring natural light in. We want these windows up high so that we maintain as much wall space as we can for tools and things like that. Storage. Um this area in here is where you know table saws can sit right here. There's jointers over on this wall. Planer in here, miter saws up against this wall that you're standing over top of here. And this is a big opening right here that takes you back through and into the existing uh school. So this is a new opening in exterior old exterior wall. Another view looking to we were the previous view is up here. So this is looking back towards the previous view. This is the overhead door on the outside. Uh back to the workshop here and the opening into the old

017renovated area. And this is what it would look like from the exterior highway windows to bring natural light in to the new overhead door here to match the existing overhead door to the scene shop. We're matching the height of it. Just it just feels right to keep the massing right. So, we're matching the height, matching the brick along the base down here, the field brick up here with the bullnose accents, just to make sure it's contextual, makes it feel like it's original to >> that garage door is not only there to help get materials in, but more importantly to get things out. Our students will be constructing a home that will be a pad for outside of the new space. So, our building trades class will be able to build a home that will be

018able to be picked up, put on a truck, move outward uh to be delivered at location. So, it's pretty incredible. Uh Bill Ivan, our teacher, has been working closely with our bond team as well as our architects to really make sure this space can serve these students while also giving us flexibility for future. >> Moving on to our entry edition. So, we went through a few um iterations of this, but this is our um our our best um our best one yet, I think. So, um we've got uh the fitness the fitness the fitness room here. You come into the entrance here. This is going to be um mostly glass around the retunda. This is a very cool um dreadnot sculpture in there. Um this has gotten a little uh little more secure as um

019you need to if it's not in and out of school at the at the morning and and afternoon, you're going to be going into the reception, checking in and coming back out this way to to access the school. Um we have added a new conference room. There's mechanical and toilet room. In this mechanical room, there's um also going to be there's snow melt for the just the front part of the before you get in so that um students and and parents are safe um after school, before school when a lot of times it's snowing and there's no maintenance people around. Um it also helps save on doors and other things from from salt. And so um That was a decision that was made to to prioritize sleep. Um then there's a couple toilet rooms and

020an office. And then that's the fitness room. >> And the fitness room is about three times the size of what's what currently have about 6,500 square feet. Right now I think it's around 2,000 square feet. So it's significantly bigger. Well planned out. We don't have a an actual equipment layout, but we've got some concepts for it and we're going to send it to equipment. We're getting close to sending it to the equipment manufacturer so they can do some layouts and test things, but it it'll significantly add new the amount of equipment, big racks that they want to use to do all the lifting that they want to do. We've had meetings and uh with with the lifting coach to really hone in on on what's needed in this space. Here's a 3D image of it.

021You have quite a few very large um windows here with great views to the outside. There's a lot of daylight inside. There's a lot of daylight coming in at for the rotunda as well. Forgot to really talk about this, but this is where um go back for a second. Um so right here is additional entries that we've added. Well, because we have a lot of egress that has to happen. It's also a great um alternative entrance for the uh students that are coming into the fitness room or the school is open. So, you have this you have a door out that way. It can be a little more controlled. And then there's our Now, someone pointed out to me that these guys probably shouldn't be here on bikes and that they don't have helmets on.

022So, I apologize for that. Um, >> really just look at the people as as scout. Just just add scale to the image. We're not trying to break rules. We're not trying to encourage skateboarding or anything on the walls. >> One thing you'll see as we transition to the 3D rendering of the walkthroughs, you'll see some signage has been added. So, you'll see a proper entrance next to high school. Piece of criticism that we have received, it's hard to tell where to enter the building. like you have this huge class of high school people come every day they're unsure where do I go so by creating a proper entrance also more importantly there's a secure entrance is the highest priority that's something we heard throughout the whole process through the community on steering so we have

023experience of high school and TF has helped design that >> right what we're really looking for here is architecture that tells you from quarter mile away at the far end of the parking lot where to You look at the building, you say that's where I'm going to go right now to go get the thing. So that's what we're achieving with with the look of new rotunda and the glass wild factor. This feature of the building right matching brick the new brick on it matches the existing brick. We're carrying some of the characteristics forward like we did at the CTU and pulling those features on the exterior. There's the image of the big dreadnot sculpture we're talking about. You can really see how bright illuminated this is going to be with the natural light here. We're

024kind of going past the new reception area through the doors to take you into that your your main spine through the building. Then as we move down the hallway, we go past the conference room or back out if you want through the reception area. This takes now we're in the old school. We're in the school that's already that's there. It's not the new addition back on your existing track. And and here we are. We're looking into the weight room addition through some big doors that can open up and connect the weight room to the track for for you know cooperative and collaborative training. We can see we've got some placeholders for types of fitness equipment that will be here. We're looking at keeping it fairly as high as make it feel as high as we

025can with pretty open ceiling. We'll paint it out nicely. Uh right now you're looking at it just a white image like this because we haven't got all the finished details worked out yet. Um, and again, here we are going back out of the the egress and the potential student athletic entrance and then around looking at the new addition from the outside. Mark, I might add that we're utilizing a snow melt system at the pavement outside here, uh, which is going to be really nice that you won't be having all that salt and all the runoff into the adjoining wetlands as well as just saving your building from detail, you know, salt is just corrosive. It's mostly going to be uh to kind of show where it's really because now we have stairs at the as

026you right now it's slopes gradually up from the parking lot to the main entry but we've built you know we're proposing to build all this building and that brings the entry close to the parking lot so it's harder to do that gradual slope so we need some steps in here and then we have a ramp over the side here. So these steps, this plaza up here in this ramp will have snow melt. So the sloping and the stepping areas near right in front of the doors of what we're supposed >> No, that's all right because next is going to be So, we're talking about the the fieldhouse next and um it's going to be right here on the twin. >> So, it's just south and centered on the twin turfs right now. We're on the

027struggle bus with the house, but we'll get there. Um, so >> thank you. Um, so we're looking at a um what we would call we're calling a fieldhouse. It's a big big metal building with half if you can picture Alit take half of your field in Al Rit and cover it. It's that big. This thing is huge. So this area here is turf, the turf area. Then we're surrounding it with um concrete. The turf is surrounded by concrete with rubber track surface around it. So that that's the big high bay area. And then under we've got a a couple of bays up at the front, a couple structural bays up front as you enter. And since the building's so tall, we're putting a mezzanine in that. So, there's going to be a floor up high

028and under that floor is going to be a couple of rooms. We've got two team rooms, multi-purpose room, kind of a welcome area right here, training room, some public toilets, and a storage room over the side, and some other utility spaces. Um, in addition to track spaces around the turf, we're looking at a practice pole vault along here at the southern edge. So, there's a big mat here, and that's where the practice pole vault. And then we've got a long jump run here and a long jump pit right here. Um, and then other features that we're going to have in this area would be four drop down batting cages that come down from the ceiling. Um, a drop down throwing cage right here that's for shot and discus. Then we've got a number of divider

029curtains that can be raised and lowered around the whole perimeter of this and down the middle to subdivide the space for multiple sport use. at the same time and separate ball sports, ball sport practice from people on track practicing. So, it's a safety feature and help set up the space as you kind of as you need to. Um, and then we've also got the mezzanine up here, um, which we're looking at for wrestling practice, cheer practice, any other sports that need additional space to practice. If the basketball team now is going to get more use out of main gym, they other sports get need to come over. They this messy now is like your all-purpose room for that type of thing. That's that type of practice where you need a lot of headroom. And then

030we've got the multi-purpose space here. That's pretty much we're setting it up for some some dance practice, but it's also for any other sport that needs space where you don't need a ton of headroom. The head room in there is only going to be about 10 or 11 feet in there. So, it's not like the mezzanine where you've got 20 25 4 feet up there of headroom. And then we've got the two team rooms here which you can do just about anything in there that you need. It's like a classroom with sports floor in it. You will they'll be able to run uh film in there. They can do banquetss in there. any any type of thing that you just need overflow u kind of group teaching space. Um so how do we get to

031the 43 oh well okay let's take a look. This is what we're the building is looking at right now. You can see how this is a person on a bike. You can see how big the building is compared to them. There's a bus. So we're looking at um a building that's about 30 feet tall. right here at the edge and about 60 feet tall. Here we've got outdoor mechanical units on grade here that'll duct work will come up and go to the side of the building and then go up into the rafter space so it could be fieldhouse. Um our entry here a little bit of a canopy covering a vestibule and got some branding on the front and shape of your your dreadnata. And we've got the gable end. We've got all of these.

032These are not windows. These are this is cow wall. So it's well insulated, but lets a lot of diffuse light in to help illuminate the space when we need it illuminated. Cut down on power boost. Then we have a fly through here to show you what it looks like as you're kind of moving through. And again, this is in progress. U this would be the axis that that sidewalk that we just showed there would be an axis right down between the twin turfs. Um we don't have all the finishes uh established yet for this space. Got some thoughts on it and that's what we're showing. Big graphics on the wall as you come in. Welcome desk kind of in the the front here. And as we come through you can see this is the lobby.

033gives you a little bit of a welcoming area. Then you get through to the big big space. You go through the divider curtains area that help control the ball or various balls. We're looking at some branding in the center of the turf. All of our lighting in here that when we do need the lighting, we're trying to uh bring as much natural light as we can in from the perimeter, but all the lighting when we have it, it's around the perimeter and indirect. It's all being bounced off the ceiling. help protect the lights from various balls. This is the mezzanine up here. U you can see how big that mezzanine is, how how much can happen up there. We do have potential for two more batting cages up there if we need them. Uh it

034can be subdivided with a block draw type curtain uh for to make two different sides of it. Here we're going to go into the multi-purpose room kind of set up for dance. It's got a doesn't have a wood dance floor, but we're g giving it a sprung floor to provide some cushioning on the dancers's knees, but with an athletic top to it, so any athlete could use use that space as they need to. Um, then as we move down, we'll take a look at the team rooms. There's two team room. Well, there's two team rooms on plan, but there's a movable wall between them, so it can be opened up into one big room depending on what function and and what you want to do in that. Um the and we're setting it up with

035a head of head of room for both rooms when it's subdivided and then a big big screen for the at the end of the room when there's a when it's all open to one room. So potentially you could close the wall and do uh offensive and defensive film viewing at the same time. Here we're going to just go up above the divider curtains. So these lower divider curtains kind of protect the ball and people on the track from long jump area. We've got secondary uh curtain that's at the top of the mezzanine that keeps balls from going in the mezzanine things going on mezzanine down. So that's our walk through the fieldhouse there. Um it's one more >> do you have um you could show logistics if you like to see what's what's happening for

036the next year or so >> yeah this kind >> I don't think go ahead >> this kind of shows what the vehicular and pedestrian flow flow of traffic will be during construction. Coming in off Shield Road at the top would be the bus drop off as it is now and and staff parking with the potential to enlarge that parking lot a little bit to you know there's going to be more traffic up there. Um the purple line also show along the front of the building shows where the the construction fencing will be and so students are going to have to walk around that area to get to classroom wing because the front building's going to be under construction. So entry there. Um, and then we're also looking at a new while that front of area

037is under construction, we're going to kind of move the the vehicular student drop off area back into, you know, back west a little bit more right there. So, we're the proposal is to put a new to to expand the parking lot in that area. Right now, that's not paved. So the intention is to pave that area and then make it part of the drop off area temporarily until the new area in the construction area can be renovated and finished in the drop off remade there. Um and then we are looking at CT what's there's something going down down at the CT area. There's going to be construction down there. So there's gonna probably be a few some people that parked down there are going to be displaced a little bit and that's why we are

038looking at possibly enlarging the part the current staff parking lot northeast corner of the site there. I think Greg said he's Greg could correct this if I'm wrong but I think he's maintaining a few parking spaces they for teachers that need to go from one school to another. Sorry if I butchered your we are thinking about these things. So tomorrow we will have teams from the Dexter going into WY and Dexter high school our two most impacted buildings during series one and present a similar presentation and offer opportunity questions comments feedback tools. We have eight months before school begins under these circumstances. We're going to start working with high school staff and high school students to make sure they understand what the campus will look like this summer, this fall, throughout the next year. So,

039we have plenty of time. Today, we had a all admin and director meeting where we're able to go through every project that's going to be happening in our district during series one really to think through are we making sure we covered everything. So, it's been terrific to have people start to chime in and share. Well, did we consider this? No, that's why we're doing it now. We have plenty time in here to make sure everything find. So, I appreciate you all showing this because we have lots of people behind the scenes working to make sure that community, students, staff get the information >> on this twin turf. >> I can't see the twin turf. grab the >> Yeah, I think the aerial image that was used to grab this was pre twin turfs, but you

040can envision them being Yeah. >> Well, that was my kind of my question is that all of them was just But the traffic twin turfs, >> is there anything additional you'd like to share about the bond projects or would you like to leave? There was one thing I forgot to mention and it wasn't really on our list, but at Alrid Stadium, there was also a project to replace the lighting there. And so that project will will be happening. Um it's already been um bid out as far as I know. And um those those new lights will be a huge energy savings because of the LED that that they're that they're replacing with LED. And um they will um we're replacing like we can replace with fewer than what we have here. >> So all field

041lighting site lighting will be LED and you'll see sign you'll see better illumination on field or even in significant reduction in energy cost energy usage. >> Yeah. So we just we just threw this site plan back up. This is a more recent Google that we image that we grab just for context so you can see where all the additions are going. It just helps everybody see where we're pointing to and things like that. So the Yeah. So that's where the twin tours are. >> Thank you. A very thorough presentation and I know a lot was covered and people probably have questions. Um, so why don't we just everyone can just I think whatever the first question is like let's try and stay on that topic and kind of finish you know one area before we

042move to another and just try and let everyone bounce around questions like who has questions about that. Yeah, >> we can back up and go back to the first building and then just walk through >> the general question about >> all these designs and all you build especially the school who's looking at the security aspect of it because the problem you're going to have once you build it all money on it and you're going to have some security flaws if you don't have someone looking at security aspect >> and it cost a lot more money to redesign something once you built it. So, do you have a security expert or security professional looking at the design before you stick a brick in there? >> We have um from the district um officer, >> but there's

043a consultant. other >> we have we have a we have a we have a tech and security consultant in contact and then um he has been working with your your person who does it and >> right >> thank you um so we do uh if we haven't um taken that to the level of um uh final yet we've had uh two or three meetings with them. So that's ongoing. Um do you want to be involved in that in some >> I don't I just want to make sure that this school security design not just the school resource function. the fact they're not they're not they don't understand the science because it all can flow all meet the needs of the schools teachers students it can flow any about height security or better security we talked

044about if you do it right will be >> well well you know you can see some of the things we're doing the new entry is specifically being designed to create that secure entry um is so you know as From an architectural standpoint, we're incorporating those things in early. And then the detail things like access control, hardware, cameras, th those type of things come a little bit later when it was coordinating with the hardware consultant, things like that. Um, so we got to get the layouts done. And that's that's that's kind of the level of this presentation is showing you where we are in progress. But for sure we're definitely going to be considering and working through all those details about security and access control. >> So it's always an issue stand. >> I just have

045a comment. >> I'd like Can we pull up the one? Can we get the the more refined one larger scale? >> Yeah, there you go. Uh, I just want to make note that uh I did notice an exterior bathroom down there. You want to tell us a little bit about that? >> Yeah, that's for the people using the Challenger field and also um if you need to use one off of the playground. >> So, it it'll be fed and it has a separate the it has a custodial closet attached to it that can't doesn't go anywhere else. >> Yeah. You can't get back into the building going into that. So, how do we currently handle students? Yeah, right now we currently rent port punch. We have port John's across the >> There you go. We're

046gonna eliminate your port for playground recess students will be able to access that restroom from the field will be able to at the bus at the end of the day be amazed the number of kids that forget that they have to go before they get on that bus. Now to the drivers have a place very close proximity. The other thing from the site picture, the proximity to the bus hub in case there's no weather coming through, we have a secure site that we can quickly move students into. That's happen outside rolls right over us. Right now, we don't have a great spot to go easily accessible. >> The new build be close enough to quickly get all students in the building. >> Do you envision that's the main entrance or you know on the bus?

047>> Yes. Yes. For bus riders. Yes. Right now they're doing a maze through the back of the school to get to where they need to be. This is very apparent. This is where you enter. >> Yeah. So there'll be a parent student drop off on the other side of the building and this is the bus road. So there's two ways to arrive to >> So this is phase one. Are there other updates coming to LY in a different phase? >> Yes. Yes. after um after Mil Creek and this this is no longer being used as surge surge space then the there'll be portions of wy interior questions >> I just want to commend you guys on tying it together the interior renderings even though they'reinary tying the beams you know it feels like the building

048is has been there so very good job What did you guys have up next? Is it >> questions about >> what will happen like with the existing um building that's there with the restrooms and the walkway going between >> Oh, okay. There I forgot to mention that. Um so there's a there's a gate on the south end of that right here. You can't really see it. They're just going to put another gate on the other side so people are no longer going to walk through there and it can be used as storage for the food, >> tables, things like that. >> Kind of a decorative black gate and >> we actually looked at putting two walls in and closing it, make it a storage room, but it's there was no budget. So, it might be

049something that school district decides to do in a year or two or depending on where the funds are and the interest earnings of the bond and stuff. That's something we can look at in a year or two. But right now, this is where where we stand. >> Right now, in this phase here, you're not you're looking at this phase here, any improvements to the lock >> we didn't have that you had mentioned ramps or steps into. >> Yes, >> it's it's a little tough to read this drawing, but If you zoom in, I point them out here. So, here's the new main gate rival with the dreadnot logos above it right here. And when you come in, you're going to come down these steps because there's about three foot grade difference between the curb drop

050off and that's a down low about 3 ft of drop. You'll come down. Most people will come downstairs, but can't stamp here. here that come down. So everybody starts in the same place and ends the same place very sensitively. And then this this existing building here, this is >> that's concessions. >> This is concession team spaces and public restrooms. And this is going to be the storage building right here. >> Thank you. That little storage building will be painted to look more like the new >> I just any other questions on I'm sorry I do have is that affect the park date that's there the same non park We're not losing any parking >> still there. >> I think we have the high school sports space. >> Yeah. >> One thing I love to mention

051that's worth noting is there a lot safety features in terms of bedding. So there's bedding around all fields including the soccer fields. We have a lot of sports practicing in close proximity particularly baseball, softball. the possibility of politics going into other fields. So part of the plan is a newb to ensure safety in different areas of this campus. >> Yeah, >> there's lots of little things happening here and there just a couple details. So feel free to ask about these types of things. >> Questions on I have a question in general about athletic fields. the um I see there's touch points in most of the places except um correct sports tennis person. So I thought we were talking about right now they have a shed that's like I don't know 8 feet wide by 10

052feet deep but that's it. Um and that's where they go for shade and uh small beaches. Is there anything going on there? We have not been instructed to look at tennis and and which I I'm not a fan of because I'm also I'm a tennis dad. So I I wish we were looking at those closer to >> an old workshop going shed old >> and and the other thing I'd like to to point out just in case no one really understands the process here we're this is there's four series we're this is only series one so we got three more series to come after this so there there is room to do more and get more feedback and do do things in the next three series Yeah. >> Other questions on this area? Okay. Um,

053so >> how big is the addition of the CTE workshop and the work addition? >> We have a total gross of 3735 square feet. Yeah, >> that's renovated and new. Yeah, that's >> I think it's about 2500 square ft edition somewhere in that neighborhood. >> We can double check the the the details there, but it does we've done some layouts there and it it seems very generous for it works really well the tool layouts. We've done the tool layouts and for those that aren't aware, this is pretty new program for you guys or rehabilitated program. Maybe you had it a long time ago. Um, we went down and toured um the union shop down in Detroit. They have the pipe fitters and carpenters union in Milright have their own shop down there to train people

054because there nowhere else. No one else was training people. So they created their own shop down in Detroit and it's huge. It's like a 100,000 square feet. They build inside of it. It's So we went down there with Bill. We went down there with Bill and our our team and we walked through it and got tons of ideas on how to set things up and things and so that that was very useful and we came away with this the layout we've got and Bill was very happy with this and how we're going. So just to give you guys a little more background on how we've gotten >> your design layout say exhaust all that stuff. >> Yeah. We've got a dust collection system in there. >> That's correct. >> Yeah. Um and and we've tried

055to also, you know, some tools are going to generate more dust than others. So, we're try to segregate dustier tools in one spot and less dusty in others. You know, so we're we're working it through. It's this isn't final, but it's in progress. It's hopefully it's going to work out really well. you know, we've designed the or set the size of the door, big overhead door, so that the biggest shed that he thinks he's going to build indoors can still fit through that door and be moved back outside. So, that's kind of detail we've been looking at to help give him what he wants so stay where they want it. >> Anyone else? Okay. >> All right. So, the the DHS One question I have about that is that the um there was some discussion

056and it's more probably going to come up with the fieldhouse, but there was some discussion when the bottom was passed whether um some of this could by the public and I was just wondering whether the the um side entrance there which could be a athletic entrance but it could also potentially be for community members on weekends or some time. Is there a way for that to happen that it would be segregated from the rest of the school? So that >> right now the fitness center and the fieldhouse are being designed with a student centered approach. So we're really thinking about our internal programming first. Does that mean there's no possibility of community programming in the future? No, of course not. But right now we really want to make sure that we understand our needs building

057a space for next schools in our current student population. If we think about future programming, it definitely is a possibility. There's additional consideration, staffing, safety, security. So there are other things that we would need to really make sure we understand before we open up the space community space like the fieldhouse. It feels like just like we do open gyms at Creek Side and Mil Creek, that could be a possibility. It be a safe pond welcoming inviting others into space to use it. uh but having regular programming or opening up the weight room for the community seats like Palmat particularly when the district owns fitness we have the wellness center so folks that are interested in that could participate as >> I guess just to so Dan's point earlier is that we do have a potential

058for an additional use if it's we build in security uh factors now or think about them you know so I hear you center um but Just thought that. >> Yeah, absolutely. Sure. >> Any other questions on >> So like just what they were saying in terms of what Dan was saying in terms of security like is there a conversation that seems like a lot of windows in that um weight room. It's really nice for light, but also like like the kind of glass you're going to put in there. God forbid we have like sugar or something, right? Just walking right up to the front of the building. >> We um like it's just kind of open like so people outside and to see what you're saying. Um as a standard we at TB usually use

059a laminate which is which is a level of protection as a as a layer lamination between the the glass layers. >> Um it's not bulletproof but it's >> if it does break it stays in frame. follow >> prevent century. >> Um, we've been doing this for a long time and we've worked with security consultants because security at schools have been an issue for 30 years and there's really no there's no record people utilizing windows to get into. We don't shoot up windows. That's something that hasn't happens in movies. Um, doesn't really happen in platform. So, a lot of um >> you can't you don't make >> I'm sorry. because you don't know. I mean, everything happened is always a onetime issue. >> Totally. Be a jerk here by hand because that stuff does happen like

060and because it doesn't happen, you still just don't pull off that consideration. That's all. >> We're not blowing it off. And we do address it with the use of laminated glass. >> Should be one way. Should they look in? Should it look out? You're going to >> So in during the daytime, it'll be very difficult to see in because it's brighter outside than it is inside. But if this facility is used at night, there's almost no way to do the opposite. It's lighter inside, so you're going to be able to see in and the building will glow a little bit. So, you know, as John said, we we have we talk to security people. We do understand statistically how things typically work. Uh we do provide a secure vestibule to get in the building. As

061you point out, anything could happen. You know, we are we're trying not to design a a prison here or or not. We're trying to find that middle ground that quality architecture meets the needs of the students, the staff, and it's still as safe as it can be. Um, you know, could we make it safer? Probably, but then other things might be sacrificed, too. So, we try and find that middle ground. So, >> to to address that, we could certainly use blinds. >> I was just gonna say, >> you know, in the evening. Yeah, >> if people could see people working out, then that's a selling point where parents come to school, we got nice gym, get people working out. You go to the right, right? You see their gym. That's that's pretty cool. You go

062by see I'm not trying to be >> No, no, when we design fitness centers, it's like all about destination value. You're like, how do you get people to be excited to come to this space? And one of the ways is put windows and show people what's going on in here. And it gets that excitement about what's with the function of that space. So there, like I said, there's a middle ground to to this >> and it's still a convers, you know, it's an ongoing conversation. This is an update and so it's good to have these conversations. >> I still committee members here are hearing all the comments too. So sure we are we are taking it and we continue the conversation on behalf of the court also. So the questions are all valid. >> We

063definitely appreciate that. >> Another question. Sorry. >> Um thank you for the snow melt system. I'm very excited about that and um consideration of runoff and storm water management etc. Um on that topic, it is the um new pavement that is being proposed permeable and secondly um is the snow melt system geothermal or how does that work? >> Snow melt system is not geothermal because that's a considerable expense for a small section of this. It's um snow melt system is basically it's a hot water heater similar to what you'd almost have in your house. you only need to raise the temperature of that just above freezing for it to be effective. Um to addressing the perial build, we'd love for that to work. Honestly, our experience has been with our with our consultants is that

064the perial system doesn't really hold up. Doesn't work that well in this climate. >> So, Anything else? >> Oh, wait. Sorry. So, this is als but um one of the big issues with the high school is the uh handicap parking and you know accessibility community like if they go into a show or whatever they have to walk a long distance to get to the center for performing arts. So is are we having any additional parking or addition? >> You know, we are I would have to go back and find that. Um with the redesign of the branches, there will be a slight modification on some of the parking. There will be additional parking spaces at Dexter High School, including one map that showed the staging. You saw that there are two new lots. One will

065be used temporarily as a student drop off loop, but will long-term additional parking spaces. So with the additional parking spaces does become more of a possibility to desert five >> and one positive thing about >> it's just really far I mean my my father it's a long walk >> it's hard for him to walk through all the way through high school. So >> there's no signage. >> I actually was thinking that's something we should talk about like outside the bond project or because it I was thinking facilities and I think it's something that would value like the >> not related to this but it's something we should >> you have to be an insider to know there's no signage or direct Well, and and if you do that, which is fine, it's it's hard to

066you have to understand the control. You have to leave either a door unlocked or you have to staff it so you can control who's going in and out. Whereas, if you got one main entrance front, you have one person there, you know, who's going in and out for for those theatrical events. So, it's just a that's both kind of a design and an operational thing to work through and understand. And you know that maybe the solution is to just open up one of those doors that you point out down here that it's a short walk a long drive down there. And now one of the positive things we're doing here is the new entry is much closer to the parking. So in in Clement the distance from your car to the front door is much

067shorter was before. So the walk is still the same distance but the outdoor portion of it is short. So and we can't move the theater. We're doing the best we can there. >> Location location. >> I was wondering how big is the mezzanine? >> Of course you would had to ask that. It's roughly 54 feet wide. Oh, there it is. square footage. 12,000 about 12,000 square feet. It's roughly 50 or 55 ft wide by the width of a football field. If that helps that >> I'm hoping wrestling because the plastic hat and I'm guessing side is sinky. >> So just just so you know >> we set the the first two structural bays set the width of that mezzanine. We set that width so that a 42 foot wrestling mat lost some circulation by so

068you have to walk on the mat. So that's how we settle with >> Yeah. Remember as we start to get more teeth this space it frees up other spaces that are currently being >> but that's a question that's already being asked by the wrestling team is exploding and 40 41 middle schoolers today. >> Great. >> It's a great >> and this team is a high ceiling. >> Yes. What? >> I'm just trying to sports high dance cheer. >> It was wrestling and cheers, but I heard a dance was more down. >> They probably >> And again, we're we just kind of go by what the AD and the coaches are telling us. But any sport you could if you want some hockey players to go up and just practice shooting, they could put a net

069at one end of that and just shoot into a net. I mean, you could use that messy for anything they want. You could put golf simulators up there. You could put all right so cheer wrestling. Um we we looked at you know you could a tennis court fits up there. You you could get tennis balls up there. Um it's big enough. Um we are we're putting about >> well it it's sloping. So the mezzanine itself is 14 ft above the field. So go 14 ft that's the mezzanine. Then you go up another 16 feet and that's the start of the slope. And then it goes up to 60 feet in center. So it's like 44 feet 46 feet center. So yeah, you could you can do any lots of sports up there. We and we

070are sleving it for volleyball too. We're putting sleeves in it. So you can take two volleyball net from the gym, three-foot posts, put them in there, and you can practice volleyball too. >> We've talked about a lot of athletics. The fieldhouse does, you know, give itself nicely to athletics. However, it's a band be a perfect space for indoor practice. You put your band director or anyone up above really have oversight of the formation. We talked about one of the groups that's most excited about using the space is our robotics. But we went to the community forum talked about what are you looking for in the fieldhouse. It was the robotics team that raised their hand said, "Do you think we could possibly host worlds?" And so the architects have taken that in consideration, thought about

071where might they be able electricity around the fieldhouse so that the the relaxing could potentially host a competition uh there because right now we do not have any space large enough that host world. I had another question about um are we creating a construction road for the fieldhouse property like off of Parker so does it impact high school too? Is that a plan? >> Yeah. So we would take um we've already talked to the road commission so the be temporary drive is no problem. Uh getting that then that would keep all the construction traffic separate from school traffic. Uh and uh we would just we would maintain that for the duration of the project and then try and just sneak it in. >> Yeah, >> there there is a reason >> convert that to permanent

072>> there is a reason lot of the site development we're not showing it right now and it's because it's still it's lagging behind in development because we've been back and forth with couple different phases of soil warnings. We just got the last set we think of soil warnings to verify where we can build, what we can build and how. So now we're going to release that information back to Becca Crater, our our civil and landscape architects are doing that that design. So that's lagging a little bit because of the soil warnings, but it's a process that we have to go through and a lot of it is we've accelerated building design per direction. We've been directed to accelerate that. So the rest of the design now catching up. It has to catch up because we've

073been moving full boring. >> I have a question. Somebody else. Go ahead. >> Actually, go ahead. >> The um track, the three-lane track, is that actually square? >> Yes. There's no rounded corners. It's designed It's not designed for someone to run around a track 20 times. Uh they this fab says if someone wants to do that they can go out and run circles. This is designed for inclement weather sprinting hurdles um doing various conditioning drills whatever the pushing sleds do doing the conditioning that they want to do not necessarily for doing loop back or loop back loop back >> straight line events. I mean, we looked at in order to get the rounded corners, the building would have to be nearly twice the size. If you were to do rounded corners, it'd be so sharp

074that you wouldn't be able to utilize them way that you think you could use it for track. So, for what we need, this is I made the most sense. Uh, one thing that Mark alluded to earlier is that there multiple series in the bot in a future series. You also talked about potentially installing a track at one of the twin turfs, rounded twin turf, but the possibility for future. So looking for rounded track space, there's more option, more possibility in the future than what the fieldhouse gives us at this moment. >> Yeah, we we on one of our field trips up to Alma College, we looked at their fieldhouse. They had they have 200 meter indoor track in the fieldhouse but in order to get that track in there the curve the turf space was

075only 30 yards half the amount of turf before it got cut off by the curve. So this maximizes the amount of turf which there's at least seven field sports benefit by that much turf and there's one track team. So >> country track. >> So this this was this was a solution that worked for Dexter, you know, working back and forth through with the the coaches and the ad and stuff. So we have gone through that. We we showed options when we were looking at early concept options and what fit, how big was it, was it cost, all that kind of stuff. We we went through those those iterations. I'm interested that my one of my questions was why there's not a track upstairs and I Yeah, we don't want a onetenth of a mile track,

076right? That's not a really track. >> So, we also looked at a raised track around the upper level. >> Uhhuh. >> Uh just added too much cost. It was it was a cost. You have to put more stairs in to get to the corners because of how far you have to go and exit. uh it structure is different or you have you have to hang that from something so that added cost to hanging the track. Um it just there's more square footage. I mean it's so a lot of things just kept adding up and it it also does get in the way of curtains and things going on and lighting. Um so it it can be designed around but it just makes the building not to design around it. So >> I'm just >> I

077don't they did we had a big discussion today >> and 52 person bond that you had discussed tracks doubling the size of the field house to put back >> oh on one of the scenarios of that was determined as too expensive. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yeah. And and you know another point about indoor track that's curved the 200 meter indoor track looked at there's no high school yet there's no indoor track season that that's competitive so everybody's looking for track space to practice on but not compete. So that was another reason we didn't look at you travel to the colleges. Yeah. I mean that's what we did. >> And there's still very few they still do. >> There's still very few colleges. There's four or five of >> Yeah. Michigan State that have indoor 200

078meter competitive tracks. Like even when you think, oh well Lincoln Fieldhouse over Ipsy has indoor track. That's a 300 meter track around turf. It's not competitive. It's practice. If you were to run on that, set a record doesn't count. Only a 200 meter track counts for record. So, another reason that we're going back and we went back and forth and back and forth. So, those are the kind of things we weighed on what should we do or what shouldn't we. >> Okay. Is the turf always there? >> Yes. >> So, then back to racket sports. Um, and maybe I don't I'm sure that that Beth didn't think about pickle ball or probably not tennis, but um >> Oh, we did talk about pickle ball. Okay. Uh you could put two to three pickle ball courts

079up like bring a portable net in. You could play pickle ball on the >> Okay, that's good to know. >> It's the floor surface of the so um it hasn't been decided. We're waiting on our DD cost estimate to come back, but we have talked about putting a thin rubber so it's an athletic surface and if that's not in the budget then we would do a polished concrete. Okay. >> And if that's not in the budget, we can just do a sealed concrete up there. So we have some options on what's depends on when how the budgets come back. >> Okay. And then um sustainability factors the when when this original location would be discussed um I know we have a whole 90 acres and down my understanding is that strip and we chose to

080be up at the top which is or we could have gone over by the tennis courts. Um that would have been closer to Mil Creek. Um up here is further from Mil Creek. So can you speak to the the storm water management? I know there's a big flash problem uh between the twin turfs and that goes down currently. Can you speak to to that and was there I mean are you the consultant that that >> that's actually Becca Nerder the landscape civil consultant who's run through all those numbers. Um and they really can speak to the details of that. I do know there was significant consideration to minimize any impact on the wetlands here and I think you know we're citing 65,000 footprint building and we're only using about a third of an acre so

081that there from the beginning there really was an intent by the entire design team to minimize any sort of impact on the wetlands >> because the wetlands are down lower. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Further south. So the the wetlands actually kind of curve south. They kind of curve around >> a little bit. So, we're trying to wedge the building right between that curve to min minimize the impact. >> Yeah. >> And and to your to your point about hitting the soil warnings, that's also that helps us understand what type of >> you know, it's not wetland, but maybe it's not buildable soil. So, that's going to help us find tune where that footprint of that field is. >> Okay. And do you know are you aware of the discussion between the possible

082sighting here versus over by the tennis courts? >> He did look at he looked at three main places for this one was where it ended up. Two was actually about right here. >> Right. Um the what what happened for this one is that it's it's much lower and you would have to come in at the second level and it's it was a little less uh user friendly that way. You'd have to go down the elevator steps to get to to the field portion of it. Um there we we were hoping to have a cost savings there and it turns out there really wasn't much cost savings just based on the going down low having to put drives down low. You have to have drives about threequarters of the way around your building for fire protection.

083>> So you would have excavated down into the >> into the hill. >> Yeah. And and so so a couple of the more complicated issues are, you know, we've got this huge indoor turf area that we want to use for all kinds of different things. And we talked about one robotics turf, but if we need an overhead door to service it, so you can bring things in and bring things out, which means we have to get a truck down to the level of the turf. So even when we set that down, we need a road that gets down there. But then the rest of the building, the access for the rest of it seems like, oh, we'll just come in high and go down in the building. But that junk position of service verse pedestrian

084entry was causing us a lot of heartache and and making that site work well. And it and it actually didn't go down deep enough. We could have put it, if we could have put it down even deeper, we could have come right in at the second level, but it really wasn't. We were coming in at about eight feet. So, you either went up six foot and down eight feet or what you really want to do is come in at one level or the other. So, it looked very problematic at that location. >> The other location just didn't get any legs. It was kind of over here on the on the one of the these soccer fields and just think people didn't didn't want to see it. >> Yeah. >> Because we're building this to gain

085additional turf by giving up turf to create turf. It does seems like a tier. The the other thing that that was it's not measurable, but that you really considered it was very difficult to consider, but by putting it near the twin turfs, it created a critical mass of athletic space that's all cohesive at the same time. So coaches don't have to go back and forth. You don't have to have one coach in one spot, one coach to another spot. You could, everybody's in one spot that uses this type of feel. Um so that was really important from a safety from a observation from overseeing students. So like I said hard to measure but that was important to create create that mix. >> We already do our students have questions to put you on the spot

086but I just want to make sure you have a chance to ask them. question go back for you said that this construction is going on during the summer also extended to the school year but I know you mentioned that students are going to have to use an alternative entrance you explain where that is and how secure event >> so you look see this drawing so anyone that parks in this area is going to walk along whatever avenue they're they're taking Instead of going to here, they're going to go along the sidewalk out here and down. Drive right into the corner. So, right in the corner of that desk field is the corner of the bus for the bus centers. >> Will they be adding like a lot of students at Buzzard? >> Yeah, we actually

087talked about that today talking about how we can utilize some of the existing technology to move it down system. So our tech team is working with working with DMV to figure out that you're thinking the exact thing >> and then see like sign in at the office. Will there be signins there instead of having to walk to the office? >> Yeah, great question. So the existing office is main intact. So we'll still be able to hold a lot of our office uh responsibilities within the current existing office, but to your point there'll be there'll need to be some sort of attendant secretary or some sort of reception at the temporary entrance. So, uh, right now, Miss Holland is work with our team, work with the offic Yeah. So hopefully we've already talked to presence there

088to make sure that people understand that >> the orange drop. >> But to your point, if a parent want to physically enter the building for something, they would be using the same temporary entrance. >> So So the plan is to pave this in some fashion. They would just put the base coat on top coat and instead of just make a turn into here and back out a temporary car here back out until this is finished. So we're creating a temporary drop off >> remember this week they just started a new flight park and shield which actually will help us. It's going to help with traffic coming in. So, that will actually help with some of our traffic patterns being posted. I do have things go down to there's one image of the CTE like new

089place. It looks very similar to the band room. Think it's >> valid. >> Yes. Is that the band room or is that an addition to the school that Okay. You know the the room is round curve around. >> Yeah. So >> this is the this is the the outer corners really. >> Okay. Here's the u >> Yeah, that's better. >> I guess >> one thing if they are having a temporary section down there at this new entrance, it gets very cold. Like when you walk in there, it's like just that stairwell gets very cold. space heater >> that new temporary entrance if we do have a secretary or something is >> same outside my only other comment is I believe the student priority is safety come back school risk my life school in fear of

090my life that in my eyes something may not look as good as it But if I risk my life doing thing I have to do it's not worth it say that is the biggest fears interior happens I read say that they can't do both they can do both they just have to start from the the and don't cut Thank you so much to your team for all the work that you've done and for coming to share all this progress with us. We really appreciate it. Great. Thank you everyone for hanging with us. It is now time. It is now time for our first opportunity for public participation. Is there anyone who would like to speak with the board tonight? You know what? We will move on to our administrative and board updates starting with superintendent

091Brian Brutder. >> Uh so a term presentation like I said we had an opportunity to share that same information with our leadership team earlier today. Tomorrow we'll be in buildings and the larger information will go out. B has been working really hard to create a beautiful public facing website and you'll start to see more and more information go out there. some of the renderings live. We'll be able to start to put more public facing so we can garner excitement about the things that are against our campus. Uh with that really thrilled to be able to join Bill Harris. Bill Harris is our new principal for operation. Bill longtime administrator with public school retired this last year. Missed the school setting and wanted to try a new new change of scenery. It's a little bit different

092job. Uh so Bill been a terrific addition to our teams and we've been working closely with making sure that our staff have the information they need to be successful. We have entered uh kind of our winter benchmark testing season. So if you have a student in young five through 8th grade, they're probably taking some sort of assessment right now. Uh young five second grade students will be taking a cadence reading math. Then second we have overlap through eighth grade and za that is then point. We're also starting to think about standardized testing. So even though we're wrapping up semester one and it's still winter, we're thinking about spring. It comes sooner than we think. We've already started to have meetings to talk about spring testing look like high school and across campus. Uh in other

093news, I'm sure you saw the announcement, but Bill Jacobs, longtime DE football coach, has retired from his position as a football coach here at Dexter High School. Uh Bill had an incredible career here at Dexter. He is uh responsible for a quarter of all Dexter football victories which is pretty wild thing in nine years he's uh the students the players families and community are really thrilled to welcome Rob Schwarz our football coach. Rob has served as a coach on the team last year as offensive coordinator where we've had record-breaking gears. Uh Rob had the trust and respect of the team lead them into the next chapter of basketball. Otherwise, it's great to have students back. Last week was fun, busy week and back of things and I think this week's off to a little smoother

094start. Not fewer plumbing issues around the district, but otherwise things are really great. Glad to be back. >> That's great. Yeah, I was going to say just a clarification um for the board a little bit more information about the communication plan and how the board could help or page now. It's just we're just building it out, but it's the same page where you go for the proposal information, but we've replaced that. We've kept all that information, just tuck it behind. And we will have a slideshow where it starts broad and then goes down and from any point that you can go to get more information on that website. That'll take a little while to build up. We're starting that um on that page. We've also added what kind of information we're going to be add

095available and um what kind of communications staff can expect. So there's nothing carved in stone but it's part of our thought process and soon can be shared. You don't want expectations or disappointments, whatever. So, such as things are firm enough, you're going to put them right up. >> The thing I hope is built out is a feedback tool. So, individuals have questions or comments can do it right the website in similar fashion to talk to us to set it up. So, they'll go to the personnel, they'll have an opportunity to respond to individuals within the organization within the community about questions. >> I think that's helpful to me if you're traveling or some more questions. Usually that needs to get something better. >> Perfect. Thank you. >> All right. Um I just want to uh

096offer a reminder that our next uh in two weeks we have a board workshop with the board and um Brian and so it is not a regular meeting in two weeks. >> 6 p.m. >> And it's at 6 pm. That's right. 6 to9 here. Here here. Yes. In person here at 6 to9. And moving on to our uh student representatives. >> Dance had a great weekend competition. They got first in their second in jazz. So I believe that was their last regional competition and soon they'll be off to nationals. So hopefully they'll be able to perform just as well. Um last Friday in advise week we got to choose um the career day that we want to see that March. So it was fun. We got to they give us dialog beforehand. It was nice

097to see they feedback from last year and I'm very excited they added. So I think those panels kind of help a lot with students um struggling to get like all the information that they're really looking for. So there's a lawyer panel. So having an opportunity to talk to kind of well kind of get to know the different career super um is having one of their competitions at University of Michigan this weekend. It starts Thursday evening and goes to the weekend. So it's a long competition where people get lots of fun and then um semester is ending. High schoolers may not have end but we do have midterms. So, lots of the high schoolers are studying, writing essays, doing projects. Um, but hopefully we'll all have a nice end to our semester in >> Yes. For

098sports, hockey, we'll play Davidson away tomorrow. And on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Bets Ice Arena, we will play Jackson, which I believe is for the SEC team. Huge game. I expect it to be packed with students. Make sure you he would make it. It would be a good time. basketball. We going against Seline on Friday which was surprised by but it was great work by them there and was played here on Tuesday at next high school cheer over on Friday night went to Northwest High School and placed first place at their competition and their first SEC meet will be on Thursday at 6 PM at Seline for the arts sus and cat the winter cat middle school production are fully underway They are loaded February 6th and 13th and the 8th and 14th for

099Susical and the 7th and 14th get all those will be at Dexter High School CPA and for band and orchestra solo ensemble which if you don't know is like opportunity to show your growth as a musician and perform in front of a judge a piece either by yourself or with group of fellow musicians for forensics not the blood science but with speech Our kickoff is tomorrow. Um tournaments will be starting at the end of January going until March. Um it'll be interesting to see how we do with our new survey master said this is March, but we're very excited that the team is as well. And for National Honor Society, it's the end of semester as Claire mentioned. So members are aiming for not required to get 25 but are aiming for your first year

10025 service hours and second year 65 service hours which seems like a lot but is expected and folks do have this number. Um and just a reminder if any service is needed as long as it's not religiously affiliated or politically affiliated please contact NHSchools.org and we need to love for service opportunities. Now, one kind of different thing. Um, I was interviewed today out of the blue during my fourth hour class because three students in a 12th grade upper level living comp are working on a project um that revolves around students at the school board and they didn't even know that schoolboard had students and they did not know that Claire or I were students but luckily the teacher they were talking to knew I was and knew that I was coming forward. So I got

101to speak with them and it gave the idea to Claire and I that we really do strengthen the line of expectation that we have with the students because we both have a fair fair judgment if that's happening at the high school but we're not everybody can't be everywhere at once. We can look at who plays when and who beats who or how well we did at a competition but we can't know how students are about certain issues. What's What do you like about the school right now or can continue? what needs to change at high school. Um, and Claire and I can't do all of that. I feel like a lot of times sometimes we are forced to use our best judgment when don't have the option to look at our student body because they

102just don't know how to reach us. Um, so yeah, you've been considering a few options. the you want to like it's obviously stren strengthen the communication. I think the best way would just let me know especially your advisory period at extra high school. Um a lot of that time is just work time but there is administrative updates at the beginning and school related updates. So if you this is what the board this is who you job out to talk to about find out more here's a Google form that we plan or hope to post around at your high school and once we get that system any student can respond it would be anonymous to make sure >> yeah I can only imagine what they do with that but um to make sure students have a

103easy motivated line of access that clear would have access to along with Xary school administrators just to keep things friendly but um strengthening that line of communication but also building trust it's not you are writing this and you're sending it right to the board you're going through clarity first we can focus in on most important things which is your body um but again I mean our job is very very important to us and it should be students too but if they don't know how to reach us it doesn't matter very much so >> we'll do a student announcement Yeah, we we talked about that as well. Um, it is very easy for a teacher to request something for the announcement. So, emailschools.org for corresponding grades or such as once we get that system moving, I

104would hope that we can move it down to Mil Creek and we'll see if teachers can do something with that side. But really focusing on Mil Creek and the high school where there's some students have boys. Yeah, that's what we're working on. >> You have a high school Instagram page appropriate places for you to talk stuff up from time to time. >> Um, they would probably need to be a creation of a new one because a lot of the thing like our student section leaders use that for pep rallies and sporting events, but that's what it's for. They're not school board section. of thinking if you include it with everything else. >> I think we might have a world record mostly Instagram accounts like as a school there's one for every sports team, every club

105and but I would probably need to make a new one for that. I was thinking also like maybe a video of like this is what happened that maybe I don't want to be in front of all the text of high school like that but if they a way to keep students engaged because so many students a lot I don't know if you guys know this a lot of people applied for my position like a lot a lot so I was told by the Dexter high school administrators that that just shows my very passionate about this they want change they want to see how this is happening later too and I >> was just I think this is something we can all kind of wrap. >> Yeah, if you have any questions, I' i've just started

106drafting up for questions. >> It's a great idea. >> Yeah, I can, you know, acknowledging that. >> Yeah, >> it's a need definitely. >> It's a need across the community. >> Fellow students would more out to come to you guys than >> especially if it's disclosed. >> Sure. >> Yeah. >> Be a big help for them. I think it's very cool. Very good. >> Is there some questions? Is there a school? >> Is the school comes out like three times a year? >> Oh, okay. >> It's very good. It does come out. It's very accessible. >> We can definitely all Thank you. All right. Um, we have consent items tonight. We have retirement extensions, resation, and higher. >> I move that the board of education approve it. >> We have a motion and a second.

107Any discussion? All those in favor of approving the consent items until, please say I. I. >> Any post? >> Um, okay. Moving on to action items. We have a number of things here. Um first up, we have some policies um for first and final reading. This evening's packet includes three policies with minor updates from Trin. These were reviewed by the policy committee on December 15th. Board policy 1301 allows policy approval with one reading when appropriate. Because these edits are minimal um as shown in the drafts, these are presented for final approval. And these are all just to clarify um attorney recommended changes. >> I'll move that the board of education approve policies 3118 L9 sexual harassment 4221 police speech at 5407 instructional programs and curriculum development for first and first reading and final. >> Okay,

108motion and a second. Any discussion? >> So is the green vote was added? Is that correct? Yeah, >> it is in one. >> Yeah, it's just in that one sense. >> Yeah, >> there have been some definition updates and things like that and that's all it's changed. >> All right, can we do a roll call, please? >> Hi. >> All right. Second up, um, policies first reading. This evening's packet included two updated policies, 3308, advertising, and 5501 fundraising. These were reviewed by the policy committee on December 15th and are presented for first reading. I'll move the board of education approve policies 3301, I'm sorry, 3308 and 5501 for first reading. >> I'll second that. >> Okay, we have a motion and a second. Any discussion? So when we um >> we go page it starts

109at 4. Uh so when we were um moving from mule to road there were some policies like advertising fundraising that um we needed to look at again and so we actually wound up combining like taking the rule of law finding and word smithing and changing a bunch kind of essentially to make our own product. um that weren't what the policy committee thought would work better for to better define what Dexter does with advertising and to kind of give some guidelines because there's certain certain things that need to be held dear essentially for Dexter and we just thought like for instance the logo we want to sure that you know we don't have just any anybody losing the logo and follow proper parameters we also went through some of the advertisements signage and things of that

110nature. So, this was and I'll just let you know um Elise and I have been working on policy together for years now since I joined but essentially and this has been a communication. So, she and I have actually talked outside just the two of us about what do we need to do. So we came into this having no idea some of the things that we wanted to have >> and and some of it is because of community complaints and uh discussions of equity amongst groups amongst you know similar uh type groups under the same umbrella and so we were looking at this with an eye towards the specific groups who have approached us in the past to make sure that rules were clear and able to be followed. So this is first reading. So if

111you do have feedback, you can email policy committee's chair. Um but we do want to get these into place so that people feel like they have some guidelines to work under. >> Is there anything about naming in this policy? >> We have a separate naming policy. >> This is really This is Yeah, this is really just Hey, I met with Jim. I'd like to put out the pass law and I do that. Well, here are the guidelines. >> Any other questions on these? And obviously fundraising is the other one group that's in this group too for first reading. It's a lot more abbreviated. Again, what we kind of did is took two different policies and put them together because it made sense. You don't need to have five different policies that kind of reference the

112same in my mind. I think it's clear. Any questions? Anything you want to take back from policy that's put another do we have current um any current understanding or or contracts that grant advertisers, you know, more than six months to have their name on the wall or have something We don't have anything in place right now. >> Right. And so after the policy help people understand, you know, >> everybody needs time. This is how we do it. >> But if anything is in place right now unintentionally, that's I would assume grandfathered it. This is all >> Oh, no. They're saying I think that's long term. There's nothing there's nobody's name on a wall somewhere saying comment. It's possible a banner was left somewhere, but not to worry or not. Okay. >> Okay. Oh, that that

113could happen. I'm sure somebody could have hung up a banner and we don't realize there's still a banner up there. And quite frankly, it could have been somebody that's not a school. >> I like that that's what that's what this whole policy is trying to address because there there hasn't and absent a policy. We don't even want to say you can't because here's the policy. We also try to think through every contingency, but we may not have thought of everything. So that's why these policies can be amended. This is sort of our first our first attempt to clean up what um the community has asked us to. Okay. Uh let's move on to roll up. >> I All right. um policy reumbering. Um at its December 15th meeting, the policy committee reviewed four policies per

114missed in the renumbering process, assigned appropriate new numbers. The policies were not resended and the content has not been changed. I'll move that the board of education approve the renumbering of the previous policies 7455 raise fix assets 7460 energy use and conservation 75 7510 use of facilities facilities and 7530 lending and board equipment to 3301 and 3307 respectively. Also, you have a motion and a second question really blank. We put it in there >> and it makes sense because these are all in that in that category that myth fits with. So, just a little bit more low hanging fruit on the true guys. That's it. Any other questions? >> All right. Mr. Sola, >> I miss Kangas. Hi, >> Mrs. Riser. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Zera. I >> Mr. Albert. >> All right, last policy

115one for tonight, guys. Policy recision policy 6152 was missed during the obsolete policy recision process. It is duplicative of trim policy 5404 textbooks, materials, and charging of visa fines, which is also more comprehensive. I'll move the board of education present policies 6152 for student fees, fines and supplies. >> A motion and a second. Any discussion to our what was miss >> and many thanks to for keeping us. It was a lot. >> All right, let's roll the vote. >> Mr. Kang, >> Mr. Rising. >> I sley. >> Hi, >> Mr. qualify. >> Right. DHS course approvals. Our packet includes includes proposals for two new courses and one retroactive approval as outlined in the executive summary from uh January 16, 2026. These were discussed at the December 15th meeting and are presented for action tonight. >>

116I get a motion. >> Go ahead. I move that the board of education approve the adoption of world history summer seminar AP seminar and peer-to-peer physical education. >> We have a motion and a second questions. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Had to really think about what on the calendar we were and I'm like you're just keeping 2026. Yeah. Um, okay. Let's just move to roll call vote. Mrs. Riser, >> I also hi >> hi. >> All right. Last up, elevator modernization. Our packet is the recommendation for grade two regarding plans elevator modernization documents. We move that the board of education award the elevator innovation project to TK elevator corporation for 130,000 I think 64,500 for total amount not to exceed $494,500 to be paid from 2017. >> I'll second that. >> Um we have a

117motion and a second. Any discussion? >> This is a nice >> It is. Why don't we have >> Craig give us a a quick little rundown? >> Yep. There are uh technically five elevators are in the district. There are three in the high school. There's uh call it the academic wing. There's the elevator goes up three floors. You have the elevator um on the second floor by the CPA. And then on the first floor, there's actually an elevator that goes from the the stage level down to the pit down there. Uh we also have the elevator at Hill Creek and there is one a smaller elevator that we have. It's like stair elevator. So we have the elevators original building. Over the years we've been doing repairs, making them all work, but the components, motherboards

118are just at the point where we're unable to find products anymore. the elevator company who install them has been doing every year they come out, they inspect our elevators, they're able to make repairs, but but the components are dwelling are changing. You really need to modernize, upgrade your elevators to make sure they work. Um, we're really trying to be proactive here. They've been managing the elevators for a long time. Uh, they're at the point that if an elevator were to go down, the components are two to three months out if they don't have the right to work. Um, I don't the the district of pocket. We don't want to have Bill Creek where students who need access to the side of the park can happen. So, um we're being proactive to get the elevator. They

119will be here this summer. Um they're able to get the work all done prove that we get in get it in done for the summer to start >> questions. I hear more about now than I could before. So, thank you for that. Okay. I guess we can move to roller >> we do not have any discussion items planned this evening. So we are now at our student opportunity for public participation. Sorry to address the board. Seeing no, we will move on to board comments. Does anybody like to >> I'd like to share. So I was at the Dexter Wrestling Club tournament that's an April tournament yesterday sessions and I got a compliment from somebody that's not at our school district at all and it's just like a beautiful school and then you see this you

120know bond presentation like wait till you see this. They're going to be blown away in a couple of years of that next tournament. So I just wanted to share that we do have really beautiful facilities and I want to thank like the custodians of buildings and grounds for all they do to maintain because that is a lot of work. We all have our houses. We maintain our houses. We'll think about it on a general level and then add children >> anything else. Okay, we have information items in our packet. We have our policy minutes, our finance minutes, and our facility minutes from the most recent committee meetings. We do not have a closed session tonight. still be our living
