Welcome everyone to the Taylor School District special board meeting of October 11th, 2023 where our mission statement is to educate, engage, and empower those we serve. And our vision statement is that we will be the innovative destination district where all succeed. This meeting is called to order at 5:30. Mr. Wright is here. Miss Block >> here. >> Mr. Heath >> here. >> Mr. Myers is absent. Mr. Thomas >> here. Mrs. Thomas >> here. >> Miss >> here. >> All right. Please stand for the pledge of allegiance. >> I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Moving on to item number three, revisions. Approval of the agenda. Miss. >> Okay. Are there any revisions

of the agenda? >> Hearing none. Is there is there a motion to approve the agenda as >> motion? Mr. Thomas. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Yes. Mr. Pete, >> yes. >> Mr. Max is absent. Mr. Thomas, >> yes. >> Mrs. Thomas, yes. Mrs. Sheel, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Moving on to item number four, discussion items. First, we have new hire assistant superintendent for secondary curriculum, Mr. Wer. So, I am very excited to say that um we've done a good job turning around where we've had some open cabinet positions in a pretty short amount of time. Uh I'm very excited about the all the different candidates that we reviewed and we looked at we talked to through that process, but ultimately we did uh make an offer to Jason Griffle who

is here tonight in the audience. Uh as you can see in your packet, you do have his resume and his information. He's got extensive uh wealth of knowledge uh of doing many of the roles, wearing many of the hats that this position is going to require him to do so. And he does have extensive uh background as well as be serving as building administrator principal and as an assistant principal both the elementary and the secondary level for that as well. So um we are very excited about the uh knowledge and the um talent that he is going to bring to this position. >> Question other than I'll add is when I sat in the interview blew me away. You I think are going to be an excellent person in this position and thank you for

applying wanting to come to Taylor. Seriously, thank you. >> I agree 100%. >> Yes. >> All right. Moving on to item number two, new position, student support provider. Miss Graham. >> Oh, this is a new position that would go into the RAG grant. The RAG grant is the uh grant that we were given because we were had a priority status. Um, this person would work in Meyers and provide assistance for um, actually we want two, one for kindergarten through 2 grade and one through third through fifth grade. They do various things. They're going to be working with individuals in small groups um, to provide both educational and behavioral interventions. They're going to work closely with all of the building coaches um, to implement the interventions that are paid for out of the right grant funding.

Um they're going to just help to redirect students that are displaying um challenging behavior. So they'll work closely with the instructional coach and the resilience coach. Um they'll work really closely with the intervention team in general with the MTSS team to make sure that interventions are in place. We have an attendance agents that starting. They'll work there. Basically, we're trying to create a web of support for all of the various needs of the Meyer school community. and um this position is completely grant funded um and we think would greatly benefit the school community. >> So I am going to add though because it is grant funded and it is a position that we are currently working through with TFT as we speak. Um we will be coming up with a memorandum of understanding uh for

these positions. Um they have been very agreeable. That's why they were said go ahead and put it on the agenda to get it approved. But do know that we are still working out uh and it is a memorandum understanding it should not have any financial implications. >> So the salary is grant funded correct >> and we've gone and done a thorough look to make sure that the position can be funded through grant and has the state approved for this position to be added? >> Yeah. So, I've worked in many my entire career has been with districts that are in various forms of priority status. This is by far the most helpful group of MTE um leads. They help us to craft these based on what is being funded and supported in other school districts. The

same for the attendance agents. They help us to craft things that are going to be fundable, that are shown to high to have really good results in schools when they're implemented correctly. So, we're working really closely with Nikia and her team and a school improvement team to ensure these positions will be put in. >> And you said there was two of them, correct? >> Yes. So, there's going to be a K2 and a 35. And this is the same pot of money that we have paid for for the general ed social worker and also the counselor at that building. >> Can we just make an action item two in front of student support provider? >> If you look at the job the way the posting is up underneath position it says one position for kindergarten

through second grade and one position for third through fifth grade at miners. >> Yeah. Yeah. I just wanted to make sure that we approved two so that way the record shows we approved two. Not just >> I'll save my stop. No, >> this is um whoever's um starting to be aware that this is standing at like a two-year position only. Okay. >> Yes. So, actually I just had a conversation with the attendance agent. They're in they're in the same realm and talked about just the scope of their their work and how it is grant funded. Once that grant runs out, you know, we may be able to find another place in the district, but then they would, you know, Pat would post it, they would apply, we'd go through the same thing. So, another discussion.

Moving on to item number three, new position, special needs facilitator for this grant. >> Hi. Um, so this is a special needs facilitator that would be funded through GSRP. Um they're requesting that this person work Monday through Thursday for various needs throughout the building. Um so they'll do diapering toilet toileting for GSRP students, but they'll also help assisting in late drop offs, pickups, meal assistance, program support, and they will also work really closely with the principal to assist with any additional needs in the GSRP program. And if I can add to that, um the reason for this position is because the GS GSRP rules have changed and this is uh districts can no longer say we're not taking your child into this program because you're not potty trained. So this is a requirement. So we

basically have to do this in order to continue the program. >> And is the grant money it's through GSRP, correct? >> Yes. >> Okay. And again, they have signed off, said this is totally acceptable. We can use that money for this position. >> It's a mandate, >> right? We kind of fleshed it out so that this person wouldn't only be doing toileting, but would be doing other duties as a side within the building. >> And the rate, how did you get to the rate of $13 per hour? >> Actually, that was upon the recommendation of the GSRP preschool site administrator. Is that based on the funding that they're giving us? >> I would assume so because she's pretty um accurate with her budget. >> I just want to make sure because I know we struggle

with getting >> caras and so I just didn't want especially someone that has to change kids like it's very difficult to hire for that. So, >> and the good thing too is that Lee did um meet with uh 26M and both TFT. They she met with both of them to see does this fall within their realm of their um of the of their membership and both of them did say that no this does not and that they don't want this position in their union so that's why it's not affiliated. >> Okay. So it's not affiliated but we talked with the unions. >> Yes. >> Any other discussion? >> Thank you. Moving on to item number five, action items. Miss BL action items number one, new hire, assistant superintendent, secondary curriculum, policy 3120 is recommended the

board of education approve the hiring of Jason Grimble. Is that right? >> Gribble for the position assistant superintendent the secondary curriculum and operations. Salary for the position will be 125,000 prrated. Mr. Gribble start date will be as soon as practical. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Mr. Thomas. Is there a second? >> Second by Mrs. Sheel. >> Mr. Heath. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mr. Thomas. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Thomas. >> Yes. Mrs. Sheel. >> Yes. Mr. Right. >> Yes. >> It's a little dicey over here. Yeah. >> Thank you. Congrats. >> Congratulations. >> I just want to say congratulations again. We're very excited to have you on board and we're excited to see what you bring to the position. >> Looking forward to it. I was hoping we would have my wife. She is

Park High School. >> So, we're looking forward to new position and new foundations and everything else. So, look forward to working with the cabinet and doing for public schools. >> Appreciate it. >> Number two, new position Myers Elementary student support provider policy two. two positions. >> Number two, >> I know there were two people providers two positions. >> Okay.
