empower those we serve. Technical difficulties. And our vision statement is that we will be the innovative destination district where I'll succeed. All right. We call to order at 6:01 p.m. Mr. Meyers >> here. >> Mr. Thomas >> here. >> Mrs. Thomas >> here. >> Mrs. Shufelt >> here. >> Mr. Wright will be late. Miss Black is here. Mr. Heath is is absent today. Okay, we have five members here right now. All right, if everyone would stand and face the flag. Okay. I will be acting as secretary uh and president. Um so I'm going to be wearing two hats. So, excuse me if I um mess up, which is my mo anyway. Okay, our student representatives today are from Taylor High School. And introducing the student reps will be the principal, Melissa Scopchinsky. >> Good evening.
Thank you for having us today. Um we're here to show some Griffin pride tonight. Um our student representatives um tonight are going to be from our DECA program. I'm going to go ahead and introduce Miss Randall up here. Um we had a very successful trip to DECA states this past weekend and we're going to recognize um all the students that got to participate. >> All right. Thank you. Yes, we had a great time at DACA states this weekend and wanted to take some time to recognize the 11 students that competed. So, competing at an event like this is takes a lot of courage. They got out of their comfort zone. They were learning new things. Uh they they really um were engaged in and getting feedback from others on how they can improve and get
better. Um, so in my many years in the industry, I noticed some of these attributes in people that are very successful in their career and I was able to observe those attributes from each one of these students. So I'm incredibly proud of them and I know that their families who are here today as well um are proud as well. So we had 11 students compete and I'm going to name their names. If they're here they can stand up. So we had Nicholas Bstri, Kia Picausski, Ashlin Beals. They could they competed in leadership and teamwork which is a Michigan only event. We had Amara Obia and Haley Vincent who competed in an ethics event. Bryce Rodriguez competed in a community giving project management. Amayra Watson and Jasmine Gore Roberts competed in integrated marketing campaign event. David
Howell competed in quickserve restaurant management. Allison Lundren competed in hospitality and tourism professional selling. and Augustine Aai competed in business finance. So, great job all of you. We're super proud of you. >> If they're here, would they please come up in front so they can be recognized properly? Awesome. Great job all of you. We're so proud of you. I also want to mention that we had two of our competitors that were the top 10 in the state in the Michigan only ethics event. So, uh they're not here today, but Haley Vincent and Amara Obina, they were placed in the top 10, which is a huge accomplishment. All right. I also want to mention that we did have three of our students who are eligible to move forward to our national competition. So, the International Career
Development Conference is taking place in California for those of you on the board. I was here talking about that just a few weeks ago, so you're well aware. Um, but I wanted to also recognize that uh Allison Lundren, Ashlin Beiels, and Kia Picausski will be moving forward to that event in California next month. So, give them a round of applause. Want to mention that they are moving forward. They they played a critical role in helping our DECA chapter qualify for our uh annual campaigns that we did. So they did um some ethics event and some public service announcements and they did a huge uh social media campaign supporting those. So great job to you. I am super grateful. >> You guys can have a seat. I just wanted to say one more thing. Um we're
as we're coming away from this event, uh we are really leaning on lessons learned. Uh we took away some really great lessons learned. Most notably wearing um comfort over style and professional shoes walking through Detroit. That was interesting. And um also just the sense of community, teamwork, and pride that this group had is just really fantastic. So since then, they're ideulating, they're collaborating, they're coming up with great ideas to move our chapter forward, and that's exactly what you want to see happen coming off an event like that. So, I'm super proud to be a part of it and I can't wait to see the great things that'll come from the teamwork that they created at this event. Thank you. Thank you, Mrs. Randall. >> I'd like to recognize Miss Randall, our DECA advisor, and also
Miss Bernard, um, who gave up their weekend to spend with our amazing children. Um, had to come over overcome a little adversity at the hotel. Um, but we worked through it all and the kids had a great experience. So, thank you again. So, um, other good news, um, I just wanted, um, Coach Simons, can you come up here for a second, please? Um, on Friday night, uh, we had our student, uh, versus the Taylor PD exhibition basketball match. Um, it was a great event. Thank you for all that came out and supported. Um, and so we were able to raise uh $3,140 um from the MC Police Night and the combined um event with the Taylor PD. So, it was an exciting night. We came away with the big win. Coach Simons, would you like
to say anything? Uh, Coach Simons was and Officer Denl were integral in making sure that this happened. Everybody had a great time. The pep band showed up, so it was a great community event. So, our Taylor basketball kids. So, what we did, we we I took pretty much uh some freshman, some JBs, some varsity uh kids uh to play play the cops, which was pretty interesting. Um considering the f the fact that the cops were a lot bigger than we were, um it was a good community event. Uh, one of the things I, you know, when I stepped in this position this year is that I wanted to do more community things to try to try to get a good bond with the city and high school. Um, I know I talked to Mr. Gribble
earlier in the year, some of the events that I wanted to put on, uh, this was one of them. Um it's just a good feeling know when you see a police officer that you can approach a police officer and some of our kids you know we have that different feeling sometimes but it was really good seeing the families come together even after the game people all went to Bubbas and some of the cops were there some of our kids hung out with each other so things like this will definitely start bringing the community more together as we continue our change here in Taylor. So definitely it's something we're going to continue to do each year and we raise some good money for some good causes. So, um, very nice to have that event and hopefully
it's we can do more than just, uh, basketball versus CO, we maybe do some more different community events like this. So, thank you for allowing us to have it. >> Um, I know it's a separate section, but uh, next up we're going to have our top 10. Um, I just as I have the opportunity to speak to the board tonight, I just want to let you know we are coming up in our busy time of the season. So, we will get those invites and things out to you early so that you can plan accordingly. Um, but we have this is kind of the first thing that we have um leading into our graduation for the class of 2024. I know there's some board members that are probably really excited for graduation. Not mention any names,
Mr. Myers. So, um, but you know, so we're super super excited um for this upcoming graduation season. So this is just the kickoff and I wanted to unite do you need to call this separate or we am I okay just go into the top 10 because I know it's listed separately. >> Is it okay? >> Okay, >> go right go right ahead. >> Okay. Um I wanted tonight to recognize um the class of 2024 top 10 students. These students have worked hard all the way throughout their academic career. Um seven out of the 10 actually have over a 4.0. 0. So, I'm very uh proud of them. Um I'm going to call them up so they can be recognized by the board. Um I'm going to start from number 10 and work my way up.
Um I don't think Emma could make it tonight, but for number 10, we have Emma Dryden. And students, as I call your name, come on up so you can be recognized. Number nine, Lucy Snider. Number eight, Augustine Aai or aka Gus. Number seven, Cameron Ingresol. Number six, Jasmine Gore Roberts. Number five, Cheyenne Smith. Number four, Josh Joshua Stoolski. Number three, Nicholas Tasolski. Two, Aiden Yar. And number one for the class of 2024, K Yman's, congratulations. We're extremely proud of you and I'm just excited to spend the rest of the year. This is a really great group we got coming through. So, it's going to be sad to see them leave. Um, it's like one of the first of the many and I'm sure their parents feel the same way. So, let's give a round of
applause to their parents and family members because without their support, I'm sure they would not be standing up here today. So, thank you guys. Good job. >> Okay, guys, don't leave yet. Mr. Thomas has a card for you. We're also very proud of you and sad to see you go. Have you all decided where you're going to school? Yeah, you can do that. Should we start with We'll start with number one. Hey, Aiden. from where? >> Okay, U of M's taking their time on Aiden, but they they they better hurry up because he's he's in demand. Nicholas. >> Okay, Joshua. >> Cool. >> Okay, >> good. >> Uh I root for MSU when they're not playing U of M. >> Another U of Mr. >> Yay. Chipoa, Central Michigan. Congratulations. >> Thank you. Thank you
for recognizing us tonight and having us. So, we'll be in touch with all the fun things and activities we have going on and upcoming. So, Okay, our next good news is um Coach Simon, would you come back to the microphone? Yeah. All right. So over the course of the last 20 weeks, we had a girls fitt season, which is our basketball season for elementary. Uh fourth and fifth graders. Um in the fall, we usually have the girls play and of course in the wintertime the boy season. Uh the boy seasons consist of nine weeks, which is we are the only district that has a young program that has to do with sports when it comes to basketball for boys and girls. Some other districts will just do a camp, but we do a full-on season.
Um which is really good because talking with the principles is that these kids are trying harder so they can play the game. So some of the principles use that as a tool in order to for good behavior and to do your homework. And it starts at this level because at this level you're going to be doing the same thing when you get to junior high and the same thing when you get to high school. It's becoming a student athlete. You got to be a student before you're an athlete. So at this young age, these kids are able to learn these um different skills and rules on how to become a true student athlete. So, little background on the season. Um, Blair Moody was undefeated coming into the championship game against Kenyon. Um, Kenyon is the
biggest team that we have with the most student participation. I think uh you have 19 kids and the rules in Bitty Ball is everyone has to play. So, you just can't have one good kid go out there and dominate. Uh the rule has been put in place and changed over time to make it competitive, fair, um to make it more fun. So with these I think had 19 kids um everyone got a chance to contribute on Kenyon. So the final game Kenyon ended up winning by a couple of buckets which was they defeated the undefeated team and became our champions. So want to congratulate 2024 Coach Meyers and Coach Morris, would you like to come up and introduce your kids? >> Thank you. >> Do we want to have the kids stand over? >> Okay.
>> So, when I call your name, come on up and stand up front. Okay. >> All right. Number one, uh, Levi Damron. Um, let's go. Number three, Levi Als. Number four, Mason Lawson. Number five, Anthony Jacubc. Number seven, Jayce Bengali. Number eight, Riker Flannry. Uh, number nine is absent today, Zavan Flowers. Number 10 is absent today, Mason Petty. Number 11, Ryder Mcame. Number 12, Keelen Davis. Number 13, ID Hijazzi. Um, I want to introduce this one. He's a second grader. did not play in a game, but he showed up every day to practice. It's his brother, uh, John. He did every drill, sprint, pushup, layup that all the other kids did. So, um, where did I leave off? Um, number 15, Gavin Hubard. Number 17, Kavon Davis. Number 18, Safe Fazu. 19 Donovan Carter. 21
Braden Debus. 22 Zachary Myers. Number 23, Timothy Cameron is absent today. Last but not least, number 24, Jake Jacob. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. This is your 2024 champions for this year's Ball. >> Thank you very much for all you have done and congratulations on your victories, >> guys. Okay, we have a Third item for good news. And I threw this at the uh superintendent at the last minute here. So, he's going to give you his good news. >> So, this is uh absolutely a pleasure of mine to be uh speaking on this. I know it was thrown at me at the last minute, but um I will say as I've gone throughout the school district and you find all the great things that are happening within our school district, one of those great things
that takes place every day is our teacher cadet program uh at the career center. And uh I've come to find when I'm over at career center, I do do like dropping into Miss Robert's uh classroom because we are truly starting to develop those leaders and those teachers of tomorrow uh in that program. And as part of that program, as with many of our career center programs, uh they do go and participate in competitions. And recently they participated in the educators rising competition. And it is my pleasure to announce that we had several students who uh achieved very high marks at that competition. So uh in lesson planning and delivery for a career center program, uh these students received a first place medal. Ariana Sanchez, Kaylee Leadford, Jerry Williams, and Lucy Snider. For uh art lesson
planning and delivery, uh these students uh also received a first place medal and those would be Sonia Okconor, Shelby Green, and Olivia Thson. In the category of research learning challenges, uh, these students received a second place medal. Deja Cobb, Alyssa Lorraine, Theo Hayes, Jayla Holton, Mary Jane Vance, and Shaniah Alexander. And then in the category of STEM lesson planning and delivery, uh these students received a third place medal and they were Nicholas Clemens and David Howell. So I do want to congratulate all of our students in our teacher cadet program and all that competed uh in the competition. Uh and on top of it, they did get a surprise guest at their event. Um, and I know we shared this out on our Taylor School District uh Facebook page. Um, but they also had the
pleasure of meeting uh Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Uh, she took several photos and got to meet and talk with several of our students. So, a truly unique and a truly great experience uh for those students and I'd just like to congratulate them. And Mrs. Robin, >> thank you, Mr. Wagner. Wagger. What? I blow it every time. Okay. Uh because there won't be anybody here when we make our comments. Um I just wanted to throw out there too. We haven't really said anything, but this month is reading month. So uh if you haven't been reading this month, read some extra things uh the next week and um continue reading next month. It's also women's history month and uh this is celebrating women and their accomplishments. And uh it's a great month to do that. And there's one
more. You'd like an update from uh Mr. Meyers on his son. >> All right. Uh so you guys all know my son was on American Idol on Sunday. Gota got it. >> Hello. Here we go. All right. So, as everyone know I don't know if everyone knows, but we all know. >> Exactly. Yeah. My son knows how to use this. All right. So, my son was on American Idol Sunday night. Uh he got the golden ticket to Hollywood and uh it's been posted all over. social media. He's gotten uh he's been on a TV or the Channel 7 news. He's been on a couple radio stations already and uh he's moving forward and we just got to wait and see what happens. I can't discuss anything about the show, but my son did uh did
get the golden ticket on American Idol. >> If you want to look him up on social media, his stage name is Dave Fo Dav Fio. And you can look up on YouTube and all of his stuff. He's also an alumni of Taylor. So, there's all kinds of great things happening in Taylor. So, we know that it's a school night and we're going to start that, too. And we're going to start the uh the boring stuff. So, if you want to go home and do your homework, we'll excuse you. >> And don't forget to read a book. >> Thank you for coming. >> Congratulations. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Going forward, uh item five on the agenda, board and discussion items. Uh, are there any revisions to the agenda for policy 166? Are there any? >>
I have a motion to table >> um discussion item number three. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Okay, there has been a motion and a second to table item number three and discussion items. Uh, so we'll take a vote. Mr. Myers. Yes, >> Mr. Thomas. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Thomas. >> Yes, >> Mrs. Shufelt. >> Yes, >> Mr. Wright is not here. Miss Black is a Yes. Mr. Heath. >> Absolutely. >> Oh, he's absent. I'm sorry that I knew that. That's why it's blank. Okay. So per your actions item discussion item number three will be tabled as will the action item number three correct? >> Yes. Okay. >> All right. Discussion items. Uh agenda item number six. Number one, enterprise. Oh, I didn't take a motion on the approval of the agenda. Okay.
A motion for the approval agenda with revisions. Is there a motion? >> Motion. >> Is that Mrs. Shel? Okay. Is there a second? >> Second by Mr. Thomas. Mr. Thomas. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Thomas. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Shufelt. Yes, >> Mr. Wright will be late. Miss Black is Yes. Mr. Heath is not here. Mr. Myers. >> Yes. >> Okay. By your actions, we have accepted the revised agenda. Item number six, discussion items. Number one, enterprise agreement. Mr. Gerro. >> Oh, there you are. >> Good evening, everybody. Hi. Um, with our leases leasing, the lease is expiring for our utility vehicles. We reached out to Enterprise Fleet Management and they there are some incentives out there that we could uh take advantage of. So, we asked them to be here today to uh do a
quick presentation and if you have any questions. Um, so we have Michaela and Evan from uh Enterprise Fleet Management. >> Thank you for having us today. Um, and also thank you for the long-standing partnership we've had up until this point. I think there's a really good opportunity to save the school district some money, um, refresh the fleet and get newer, safer vehicles on the road for everybody working for the district. Do you guys have any questions for us in regards to the finance piece or would you like me to go in more detail with the document that you received earlier today? >> Would you please? >> Yes. So, I'm looking at the doc the Microsoft Excel sheet that has way too many numbers on it. If you guys can see that it looks similar to
this. >> Yours is a little bit bigger than mine. >> This one. >> It's not in the three-page handout. It's a separate sheet. >> Oh, there. >> Okay. the one that's folded in. >> I got it. >> So, currently the school district has 18 vehicles on lease through Enterprise Fleet Management. Those leases um are either overdue, past due, or coming to term, which means it's time to cycle those vehicles out. So, what that means is it's time for the district to either rotate those out of the fleet or refresh them with new ones. And ultimately, there are some manufacturers that are offering very large government discounts for purchases of new vehicles. And by being able to uh leverage this, the district is actually able to replace 20 vehicles with the 18 that they currently have
on lease through Enterprise and ultimately save money. So what that means is Enterprise Fleet Management will sell the existing 18 vehicles that Taylor Schools has on lease through us currently and there is estimated over $300,000 of equity within that portion of the fleet. Enterprise can then utilize that equity to either give the school district nearly 16 months of free payments on new vehicles or leverage that and put that money down on new vehicles to ultimately shrink the monthly payment which would then save over $400 a month that you guys are currently paying today by getting all brand new vehicles. So if you break that down on a yearly basis basis, it's over $4,500 a year to replace the current fleet with brand new vehicles, which ultimately will then provide uh safer vehicles. Employee satisfaction is
also uh highly increased with new vehicles and ultimately is a better image for the school district to have newer, safer, better vehicles on the road. >> We currently have 18 vehicles. Yes. >> And you're saying we can get >> Yes. And we can get 28 >> 20 maint >> in this analysis. In the analysis that we have proposed to you, we actually included uh maintenance up until the lifetime of the lease term, which is included in here. So, the district doesn't have to worry about coming out of pocket for any unexpected maintenance repairs. Everything is built into the monthly payment of the leases, which is included in that $400 a month savings. >> And that's like oil changes, tires, >> tires, >> like what if the car breaks down, you're going to fix it? We
have roadside assistance, everything that you could think of from a just a warrant or a repair like maintenance repairs, not physical damage or anything like that, but maintenance and repairs. Everything from the start of the vehicle life cycle until the end of the term is covered from a maintenance standpoint. >> So, what do you think that'll be in the long run, Jack? Do you have any idea >> what the total cost savings might be for that that we don't get surprised with? >> Yeah. You know, you mean for what we're paying now? Yeah. >> I mean, you know, we're spending probably with with tires and oil changes and the starters, the batteries, we're probably paying upwards to 10,000. We have the first few years we weren't, but now that the fleets getting older, you know,
we purchased, we've had a few batteries, you know, dealership, >> the estimated monthly uh maintenance cost currently on your fleet is over over $3,000 a month. >> Okay. >> Um and that is dropped about 40% with the maintenance plan that's added into the new leases. >> Okay. And just for context, um if for whatever reason this didn't happen and you guys decided to not go with this, your maintenance expenses are going to continue to go up like this. Whereas through this new lease plan, every single maintenance cost is flatline and all the way across the life of the lease, which is good, too. So you can avoid the unexpected repairs. >> So overall, if we did this is um like what is our monthly payment now? is what it's going to be. >> Yep. So,
that's actually listed on here as well. So, the estimated total monthly cost because we like to do an apples to apples comparison is in terms of what you're getting going forward versus what you're doing today. So, if you look um in the estimated total monthly cost column with your current cost, uh it's the column just left of the first green column, that's your total monthly expense currently today. It's $12,631. If you go to the far right green column where it says estimated total monthly cost going forward, it's actually $12,237, which is how you get that $394 per month savings. >> Are there any other questions or comments? >> There's there's also the surplus of the $39,000. See, I mean, we wouldn't have a payment for >> 16 months. If you guys choose to utilize the
equity as um an invoice credit, what that means is you guys have a lease payment, but instead of making that lease payment, we can take that $38,000, issue it towards payments on the new vehicles for 16 months. So that means you wouldn't, the school district wouldn't have a payment on a vehicle for the next 16 months, and then at month 17 would be the first payment due. So you're going to essentially because we're not selling to the leasing, you're going to take them back and give us a credit. >> Yep. So we actually take them and sell them and all that money is yours >> and then we leverage that 308, it's estimated $38,000 and that would cover the next 16 months of lease payments on new vehicles. >> Or we just get that money
and just make the payments right away. >> Yep. Sometimes people throw a pizza party if that's what you guys would like to do. >> So we need to do this, Jack. Like we need these new vehicles. >> We do. You know, I mean, we've had them for five years now. >> You're talking like the trucks that are snow plowing like all all that. >> Our warehouse truck, our mail trucks. Yeah. I mean, they're getting to the point the And what year are those vehicles? >> And what year are we getting? >> 2024. >> Are there any other comments or questions? >> Thank you very much. >> Thank you. Okay, there is a number two is a revised overnight out ofstate conference request for link crew basic training. That's our assistant superintendent Emily. Hi, this is
one that you all have approved before. This is link true basic training. Um we missed the deadline for the registration and then the conference was full. Um so we are now going to Phoenix, Arizona. Um the two people that are going, Jacob and Shelby, it's just an increased cost of $51.38 for each one of them. um it is still a title one funded um expense. Um so it would just be the addition of $102 and changing the conference date. >> Yes, it's just the date and the location. They were both out of state conferences. They were both overnight. Um but it's just an additional $102 of title one. >> Okay. This this was to um Illinois before, right? >> Originally, yes. Yep. >> Outside of Poria. >> Yep. >> Yeah. Okay. Are there any other
questions or comments? Okay. Hearing none, we will go to uh discussion item number three. >> No. 123. the new three >> um overnight conference request MSBO annual conference and that's Pat Delator. >> Uh good evening. I'm asking the board to approve a conference for me to attend the MSBO conf the annual conference is the Michigan school business officials and um I currently have uh two different certifications from them which the HR and also the business managers certifications and um and every year you have to get so many in order to renew every five years you have to get so many types of professional development and this conference um does provide those um credits if you will towards that. Uh what I signed up for uh for this year is uh the pre-conference is the human
resource pre-conference and that's all day and what they do is it's a good way to network but also they go through a lot of different HR topics and uh scenarios and things of that nature and then the two-day conference that follows is um I've signed up to um take a legal update and then also employee leave and compensation because we get a lot of leaves and different questions and whatnot. So they provide some insight into that. And then on Thursday, um I signed up for two retirement things, but I'm going to change one of them because I don't really need to go to two. But it's always nice to understand what um OS is doing in terms of retirement because they got so many different plans. So depending on what year that you start and
it's unfortunately sometimes people get ready to retire, they don't know that they're supposed to contact OS. They think that's the school. So it's just nice to be able to talk to the people and just let them know that they need to do and here's questions that you might want to ask and a lot of people are appreciative when our department can at least share that um that knowhow with them. And then also strategies to engage uh and retain um staff through benefits. So it' be interesting to hear what is new and out there that we may be able to attract um employees and keep employees. And then the other thing is employee records, policies and handbooks. And I seen on Mr. Wagger's uh whiteboard that of he wants to do is the hip books. So,
I thought that might be pretty beneficial for us. So, I'm just asking and the good news is is that I did get a scholarship for the two days. So, that's a value of the 200 $390 that I'm saving the district. >> Well, good for you, Pat getting a scholarship. >> I try. Okay. Are there any questions, comments? Okay. Hearing none, we will go on to the next item which is now number four, the polylot agreement. This Mr. Wagger, >> so uh it is that time that we do need to renew our agreement with Wayne Greesa for the use of their software for the polyplot system. Uh the polylot system primarily the biggest function we use it for is for transportation planning and getting our routes, taking care of those things. Um but we found it
as an essential tool not just for the transportation piece but it has become an essential tool as we've been looking at elementary boundary lines and what the enrollment is going to be uh going forward. So it's uh really kind of serve us a couple purposes and going forward it's really going to be as we continue to go through that process. Um but it is just time that we are we have to do that agreement with RESA to continue use of that program. >> Okay. Are there any comments questions? Everybody clear what Polyplot is doing? Okay. Then we will go on to the new number five and this is the budget amendment. Mina Hill our CFO. Thank you very much. First slide, please. I'm presenting tonight our first budget amendment uh for the Taylor School District.
And this budget amendment is just so that we can operate from now until June. Okay, that's what this is representing. So I prepared a a district funds at a glance just to show you know our expected revenue from now until June and then also our expected operating expenses from now until June with a caveat. And the caveat is uh for our capital projects fund so far we've only spent $1.4 $4 million of the $29 million that we drew down. But since we've been having conversations about our capital fund and what we're going to spend or what we're not going to spend, I just wanted to make it available. So that's the reason why I'm asking that 17.8 million is available so that we have the flexibility. That's the only reason why that's there. Of course,
the projected fund balance for the capital expenditure fund is not going to be 10.4 million, but it's going to be whatever we spend between now and June. So, so far we've only spent 1.4 million of the 29 million that we expended. So, I just wanted us I just wanted to make that clear. So, okay. So in summary what you see before you for the general fund the estimated revenue is 76 million estimated expenditures is at 71 million with a projected fund balance of 29.8 million. Now this is a projection as of today. We still have expenses and things of that nature coming in and we still have special projects that we still have to pay for. So, I'm asking for this money so that we can operate and then I'll come before you again in
June for a tighter picture of what our budget is going to be to close out the year June 30. Okay. So if you go back to the f first slide, I I won't be too long, but I just wanted to Okay. So for for the funded programs, that's our grant programs. I'm asking for 37 million based on our current awards and we expect to pay we expect to spend 37 million, but we may not. But you want to make it all available so that we can spend it. We may not spend it all, but we have to make it available in the event that we are able to spend it because a lot of our grant funding ends actually September 30, which is the next year, next fiscal year. So, in terms of food service,
we're asking for 4.2 million center programs, which is special ed, ASD, and POH high programs, we're setting aside 5.8 8 million in revenue, 5.1 million in um projected expenditures. In terms of our debt fund, um expected revenue, which is really from taxes, uh is 5.9 million and our expected uh debt payments is also about 5.9 million. Of course, in terms of capital projects, I started out with that, so we'll skip over that. and our activity funds uh projected $396,000 with expenses to be $380,000 or the same but we have to make it available. We don't know what the spending will be between now and June. Okay, next slide please. So I just wanted to just highlight the general fund. Um, in terms of our mix of revenue, local revenue is $14 million or 20% of
the total amount that we expect to receive between now and June. In terms of state revenue, it's 56 million. But if you look at our state aid report, it's a little bit more than that. And it's because 31A is in the funded programs because that's how this district lists it, which is okay. But that's the reason why it's 56 million. Federal sources is $95,000. Uh that's um a subsidy that the district gets. And in terms of local revenue from the ISD, that's um about $5 million. That's your GSRP and your special uh education and other small grants coming from the ISD. A total of $76 million. Next slide, please. And there's a pie example for the visual people in the room. 19% 74% is from state sources. That's our biggest source. A from the as
of our biggest source, excuse me, our biggest source of revenue is 74% from state sources of course followed by our local revenue of 19%. Next slide please. Okay, so we talked about that. Next slide. In terms of expenditure assumptions, the expenditure assumptions include our projected and actual costs for the current school year. You know, it includes benefit increases that happened as of January 2024 for staff who currently receive benefits through the district. vacancies filled after July 1st of course for new positions have also been included as well as employees who were charged to grants grant funding that has ended or is not allowable. So for example you know if someone is uh charged to a grant fund and the grant fund ends of course our general fund has to be able to pick it up
or will pick it up if we don't identify another funding source. So that's pretty much how that works. And then we've had a lot of servants payouts. Um a lot of people retiring from the district, you know, where we pay out vacation and sick time and things of that nature. Next, next slide, please. And then we have summer school coming up. Um you know, our utility cost has just been going up because of inflation and things of that nature. New buses. We plan to buy some new buses between now and uh June and potentially, you know, what you heard tonight. Um our transportation costs as up slightly, facility repairs and upgrades. You know, we've been doing a lot of work with uh demos and things of that nature. We have work to be done between
now and June. So, we have to include that in the budget to make it available so we can spend it. The following funds are included for approval in the board of education packet. Of course, the general fund, funded programs, which is your grant funds, capital projects, um debt service, food service, student activity funds, and center program funds all need needed are all included so that we can operate from now to the end of the year. And of course, this is a projection as of today. As more bills come in and things of that nature or, you know, the district decides to take a direction to the left or to the right, you know, we need to be able to operate in that event. Next slide, please. And then I talked about the funded programs, but
just to highlight a couple of things. ESR funding for the the current year is $14.5 million and it's going to end this year and we will spend it by June 30. And then what we're spending ESRE funding on of course is salaries and benefits and those salaries and benefits are going to hit next year as a July 1 general fund. And we all know about that and we talked about that before. 31A funding is about $5.6 6 million this year plus 1.9 million from the 23 school year. GSRP funding is 1.8 million and then you have other grants included in that $37 million to the tune of 8 million to include largely special ed funding. So next slide please. This is my summary for the board of education and the public. And if you have
any questions, you always know where I am, but I can answer any questions for you at this time if you have any for me. Number eight. No. Yeah. Number eight. Superintendent report. Mr. Wagger. >> All right. Good evening everybody. Um, as I was writing my uh what I was going to say tonight for the superintendent report a few days ago
and I was going to give some reminders about it being spring and then all of a sudden I see snowflakes today and people are talking about snow later this week. So, it may not feel like spring, but it is definitely here and it is upon us. And that is a very important uh time that's going to be coming up for our students throughout the school district. So, I do want to put out the reminder uh to our parents, to our students, to our community that uh when we come back from break, we're going to have some very important things taking place. uh particularly testing is going to be coming up and that is going to be at all levels uh of the school district. So it's important that we are working with our students and
we are preparing them and that they are going to be ready for things like the MSTEP and SAT and PSAT as it comes up when we uh come back. The other big reminder I want to give because uh for all my years I've been working in schools uh spring also sees that warm weather and with warm weather usually behaviors start to become an issue. So please remind your students uh parents that uh we do enforce the code of conduct and that we are expecting our students to be safe and respectful and responsible uh when they come to school and that is the expectation that we always have. So, wanted to put out those spring reminders even though it's not feeling totally spring-l like right now. Uh, the other piece that I would just want to
bring uh the community up to speed is um we have had uh the school district a team that has been attending a series with the uh Michigan Association of Superintendent and Administrators. Uh and the name of the series is Beyond Equity. uh as we look at some of the things that have taken place uh in our schools over the years and some of the things uh that we could be doing better, one of the places that we could do that is in making sure that we are providing a welcoming and inclusive environment where all of our students feel uh safe uh to learn and to be themselves within with they come here uh with us all day long. So, as part of that, what I really liked about joining this equity series is what this
equity series does is it provides us with a tool that we can start assessing and we can start looking at all of our practices as a school district. Um, such as reviewing our student code of conduct, making sure that it is uh equitable and inclusive. Uh, reviewing policies, reviewing the procedures that we have. Uh and once we go through this process, we feel confident that we can have that inclusive place where all of our students, and we do mean all of our students, regardless of uh disability, regardless of their religious backgrounds, regardless of gender, they feel included and that they will be uh part of our community and they will be just the same as anyone else. So, so, uh, I do want to say with that said, I said we're here in spring and
we are in a special, uh, time of the year for, uh, many members of our community, and I want to close out just by, um, wishing to all of our different groups of faith. Uh, hag quorum for our Jewish members of our community, happy Easter for our Christian members of our community, and Ramadan Mubarak for our Muslim members of our community. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Wagger. Okay, now we move into some nitty-gritty, some business, some cleaning stuff up here. So, number nine, our consent agenda, policies 166.1 and policy 6470. Uh, number one is minutes from the March 6, 2024 regular board meeting. Number two, consolidated items, payment of current bills, certified, non-certified, and administrative reports. Is there a motion? >> Is that a motion, Dave? >> Yes. >> Okay. Um, is there a second?
>> Second by Mr. Thomas. >> Mr. Thomas? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Thomas? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Shufelt? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wright is not in attendance. Mrs. Miss Block is a yes. Mr. Heath is not in attendance. Mr. Meyers. >> Okay, that passes five to zero. >> Number 10. Items scheduled for next agenda, Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024. We will have good news and our student representatives will come from Taylor Parks Elementary. Number 11, public comment policy 167.3 in accordance with the open meetings act of 1976. Thank you to all of you who are able to be here in person and online tonight. We understand the importance of continuing to keep you all informed and provide an opportunity for you to be heard. Tonight's audience participation will be for all who wish to speak, whether it
be in person or online. We will begin with those in person. If you would like to address the board, please step up to the microphone and state your name and address for the record. After all those in person have had an opportunity to speak, that opportunity will be given to those online. Please take into consideration common courtesy and keep your comments to three minutes or less. We will provide and assist with timekeeping so that each speaker will be able to monitor their own time and know when to conclude so all who wish to speak will have an equal opportunity to do so. If there are any questions at this meeting or by if there are any questions at this meeting or by some other avenue, Superintendent Michael Wagger or his designate will work on getting
those answers in a timely manner. We will start with those in person. Hello. >> Good evening. >> I wrote it because I know I have to play Beat the Clock. >> Kathy Fields, 22670 Wood Creek Drive. Um, I'm here tonight with a donation and to address some concerns. First of all, I want to make a donation to our robotic our TNT robotics program, but it has strings. I know with a new CFO procedures change. They usually do when there is someone new in that position. I'm also aware that getting an open PO or blanket PO has been a pro problem for some of our programs. So, I uh will give my check to the board president only if the total amount will be made in into an open PO for Home Depot for the robotics
team. When they need a part for a um competition or to prepare for a competition that's coming in, they can't wait for the purchase order process. They have to do it now. So, if the board can guarantee that this can be made into um an open PO for Home Depot in just this amount so that they can get some parts because they've got competitions coming up. I'll be happy to turn it over. Otherwise, I'm going to cash it and I'll be running for parts. Now, all of that being said, um my concerns, I've been a huge supporter of the TNT robotics program, its entire existence, which has been 20 plus 26 plus years. Um I was a secretary over at the career center when it first started, and it was a a phenomenal and always
has been a phenomenal program. But for the last few years, I haven't seen that same type of support from our district. As far as I know, there hasn't been any help in recruiting more students, and they have received minimal financial help. These students don't just put together a robot and compete. I made a list of some of the skills that I know are being taught. They are learning computer design and computer programming, problem solving, taking and giving directions, leadership skills. They work alone and learn to work together as a team, professionalism by aiding their own opponents during uh their competitions, marketing skills. This is just to name a few of what they learn. There's $90 million in scholarships available for robotics students. Why would we as a district not be promoting and supporting this program?
As of now, I know they will need financial support to continue their journey, but if you need if you want more details on that, you have to contact their advisor. We seem to have money to support a lot of other programs. They won their Wood Haven District event. Their next competition will be Saturday, March 23rd at 10:30 a.m. for open ceremonies and competition at 11:00. On day two, Sunday, the opening ceremonies are at 9:00 and the competition is at 9:30 at uh in Leavonia at Church Hill High School. We only have five robotic students this year, but I'll tell you what, they have the heart, they have the drive, and they put in the work of 20 kids. Please, as a school district, let's support this program and open up all the opportunities that being
a member of TNT Robotics holds for our kids. So, am I handing over the check? Can I be guaranteed it'll be an open PO? Okay. So, if the CFO will let me know or robotics know or Denise know who has to generate the PO, I'll be happy. And I also I was asked to deliver these letters from the robotics team to the board. Thank you, Mrs. Fields, for your passion. Hello, I'm Lynette, uh 7287 May 1st Street. Um, I have become the van booster president and I'm just kind of here to let you know that I'm super proud of them. They have made a lot of compliment accomplishments. Our jazz band, concert band, sonic band all got twos. Um, in saying that, also out of the top 10, 50% of those are in band. They're
music program. So, just saying all that that that's like a great program. Um we are really struggling just like robotics um of finding um funding. Um you probably see a lot of things coming in because we're trying to as the boosters raise money. Um we've also kind of worked with Miss Scope to try to get like um things approved such as banners and stuff that we can get businesses. um saying all that as um the CFO mentioned there's a lot of things raising um but as the boosters there's you know things that got kicked back as far as um music for the MSBA that we attended that we got to that represent Taylor amazingly um that that was refused um the music so the boosters had to pay um back Mr. Rosor and Miss Oh
my goodness more um money for music that they had to buy. That's that's crazy to me. Um but um in saying all that, we also have to pay for music and the show for marching band. That's al alone $4,000 um which is more money. So last year band camp was $450 which with everything raising um we had to cover about it should have been $530 per student. So the boosters covered that basically because of the raising cost um with paying for music now and everything else that we're going to have to pay for. It's going to be $650 per student. So, you're talking you're asking these kids who couldn't pay $450 um to pay $650. Um so, I'm just like asking for that to be a very big consideration for next year to increase the
music program's budget. Um or I don't know how it works or what they would be in if they're considered like um you know what they're considered if we could raise that or put money into the marching band. We also have I have pictures as well as we haven't we were promised last year new drums and guards. Um we've kind of hooked them up but like without hooking them up they're all bent. They're falling apart. We're constantly fixing them. Um because that was taken away last year. So that's stuff that we also paid for. Um but we have things that are cracked. Uh we have drum sets that we have to piece together. Um, we had this that's been it's very old. We can't use the plug-in feature anymore because um it caught fire. Um, but
I'm just like saying we need to kind of maybe put um a budget for music. Um, super important. Um, or at least pay for music for the music teachers um so they can pay for stuff. >> Thank you. Are there any more in person? Sean, are there any online? There are none online. Thank Thank you everybody for your comments. All right. Are you ready to roll? >> Okay. Item uh 12. Item number 12, adjournment to close session policy 0137.2 pursuant to Michigan's open meetings act being at public act 267 of 1976 and as amended I move the board of education the board convene in close session pursuant to 8C negotiations and 8H material exempt from disclosure by state and federal statute. So, congratulations and good luck for the little ones in the future. >> Um, I'll just say congrats to the high school band. Um, I know that uh Lynette kind of informed us too that they got uh ratings, two ratings. Um, and
then also just wanted to say it was awesome to see Taylor Parks have their MC Teacher Night last night. So they were >> last night >> yesterday. So they were working at uh McDonald's on Ecourse Road. Um, and they raised money. So all their photos are on Facebook if you want to take a look. It's really cool. Um, and then also, I don't know if this was on the items for next agenda, but just I'm excited to be able to kind of start to present to our community some uh designs of some of our elementary remodels that's going to be happening at the next meeting for Holland, McDall, and Meyers. Um, I'm just really excited to kind of start showcasing our community, how beautiful our buildings will be for next school year. So, anybody else?
Okay, we will go to number 15. Adjournment >> motion. >> Is there a second? >> Second. Mr. Thomas. Miss Black is a yes. Mr. Heath is not here. Mr. Meyers. >> Yes. >> Mr. Thomas? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Thomas? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Shufeld? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wright? >> Yes. who who I should mention came in at 710 p.m. >> Nope, I have to mention that actually. You're arriving late and uh >> the board of education regular board meeting for March 20th, 2024 is adjourned at 9:38.
