00120 chaperons to 100 kids is a is more than our ratio that is needed by the state. So, uh we're really excited about that and we'll be there till Friday. We'll be coming back Friday evening and this is really the biggest time when we get the most instruction with students. Uh each section has a section instructor who's a professional or either a college student or professional teacher uh on the instrument. So they get small section instruction with an individual who's proficient on their instrument and that's the biggest uh the biggest help for us while we're there. So, uh, I I don't know if there's more questions about band camp or anything, and we're just really excited to be able to go. The band is going to be huge band this year. Our show is fantastic.
002I was just telling the kids how people are going to see Taylor and they're going to be like, "Whoa, that's Taylor." Like, that's not what we think of. It's I'm thinking this is like a new era for the marching band and we're we're really excited that it's taking place. So, yeah. >> Are there any comments? Any questions? Okay, Brian, don't go anywhere. >> Okay. >> Second um discussion item tonight is out of state field trip request and it's for the drum drum line, right? >> It's a drum core. >> Okay. >> Drumcore. >> Okay, go ahead. It >> So, it's DCI, Drumcore International is the the the entity that it is. Think of it as the major leagues of marching band. These are kids who pay about $4 or $5,000. They pay to be in
003a part of these groups. They go over the summer. They go on a tour across the country. And they're uh high school to college age students. 21 is the the max age that they can be. And they they rehearse every single day from May until August. They're 12-hour days. It's like band camp but the whole summer. and they're just it's the major leagues of of marching. So, we're going to be seeing them. Um it's kind of a tour. So, there's a bunch of different groups, different marching groups that are going to be there and it's in Canton, Ohio on August 5th. And it's going to be the week before their finals. So, we're going to see them at their best. And it's like taking uh uh the football team to a Lions game. It's like
004taking the baseball team to a Tigers. Maybe not this year, Tigers team, but maybe in the in the future or the past. But, uh, this is really to get the kids excited about it. We were able to get, uh, some help with busing through the Taylor Foundation. So, we're really excited about that. And we got a a good deal on tickets through their group discount rate. So, we're taking I think it's 41 I think it's 41 or 43 students. And we have five chaprons, I think, that are on that one. Uh, if my math is correct, 54. >> It says number of students 54, number of chevrons five. >> And then the other one says 36. >> Yeah, 36 for >> drum core. >> Let me double check. But >> uh I think the chaperones
005are correct at five. >> Okay. >> I believe it's 41. >> So the chapron would be 41. >> I have actually I have 36. 36 is the number. I don't know who had >> 36 and then 41 people total. So that's where those numbers that's where the numbers came from. So 36 uh students that will be taking down the bus and it's going to be uh it's a long drive so we'll be getting back pretty late but it's again it's very worth it for the kids. I'm really excited to get them excited about marching. they'll come back. And uh I had a similar experience in high school where we went to a show in Ohio and it was pretty much the same thing. And I came back and I was like, whoa, this is I've
006never seen this before. A lot of the kids don't know what it is, so they're going to be super shocked. Um so yeah, we're really excited that we were able to take them for a good price. Very good price. >> At least it's not in Columbus. >> Well, yeah. Go Blue. >> That's a pretty good place, I think. Go ahead. >> Absolutely. >> Yeah. So, are there any questions about DCI or >> be really >> will you guys like um I have a quick question about band camp. Will you guys be doing >> when I was at the high school I was in band? >> Um well I did the prom part but >> will you guys do like a show like at the be at the very last day the parents can come and
007you guys do that still? >> Yeah we we don't do that now. Uh we are going to a new camp this year, but we we don't do that anymore. Part of that is it's there's a lot of state regulations regarding the camp. We have a state license for the camp and we get inspected by the state while we're there to make sure that everything is up to par. Um part of that is we have to make sure that the people that are up at camp, even if they're just visiting, are cleared through the district and through the state. So we I don't know what they did in the past. >> It was when we it was almost like a showcase of what they did at camp, but then the parents were taking their kids home
008from there, >> right? And we also I I've had bad experiences of people taking their kids home from camp. And I want to make sure that they're under my care that we get them there and back safely. That something happened when I was in high school uh to a student who was taken home by car. So, we want to make sure that we get the kids home safely all together. Um, we we thought about doing a show like that. Um, but we we haven't planned anything this year with the new camp and everything. It's been a huge undertaking getting everything approved and everything set up for it. I'd love to do something like that in the future. Maybe >> even once you guys got home >> at home. Yeah, we don't have anything planned right
009now. Uh right now it's just the first football game um in August is that would be the first time we do something. But um we were thinking about one of our rehearsals maybe at the end of our rehearsals in August or in July or something opening that up to people to come in and and watch and see for the first time what we did. So >> yeah, but it's it's a good idea. We did that in high school. >> Yeah. >> It just hasn't worked logistically for us right now. this time. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Any other questions? Mr. Heath arrived at 509. Thank you, Mr. Heath. >> Are there any other questions for Mr. >> And I do want to say thank you very much for accommodating this meeting. It's um I don't know
010what happened with our with our stuff, but I I really greatly appreciate you guys taking time to be here and helping kids in this meeting. >> There's a story. >> Yeah. So, no, we didn't get to have it Monday night either. So, it's almost like a >> I don't know. We had people working against us. >> Yeah. I guess I'm glad it happened. So, >> Well, it needed to happen. >> Yeah. >> So, Okay, Brian. >> Thank you. Is there anything else that's needed from from me or am I good to go or do do I need anything else? >> No, not right now. Okay, very cool. Thank you guys. Appreciate it. >> You can have a seat for Do you have to run back right now? >> Um, I did have something at the
011school that I needed to to tend to unless I >> if you can wait for one and a half minutes. >> Sure, I think I can. >> All right, we'll close the discussion out if no one has any more. Okay, next action items. Overnight field trip request band camp policy 2340 and 834 8640. It is recommended the board of education approve the following overnight field trip request. I am a recent homeowner at 22700 Oak View Drive in the Part D Woods neighborhood off of Par um north of North Line. The reason that I'm here is my property directly backs McDow Elementary. Mcdow currently has a massive flooding problem. It is encroaching upon my property and my understanding since I purchased this home is it's been going on for over a year. Our association president has contacted a
014maintenance gentleman. I'm sorry I'm not aware of his name. Um I've been told that engineers have come out. It is well known. Um, I don't know your procedure, but I did bring some photos since it heavily rained today that I just snapped about 30 minutes ago. May I share them with you if that's okay? >> Sure. >> Okay. >> These are all taken within the last 30 minutes. Currently, I am concerned about additional flooding issues encroaching upon my home. I cannot do any repairs to the fence. Um, I can't plant anything. Um, it is I mean it would compromise anything I install. So, I'm just looking for a resource if possible or what is the procedure to get assistance on the school's behalf with resolving this. Um, I'm trying to avoid any kind of legal
015escalation, but I really need some assistance and the association is not getting very far with the maintenance. >> Okay, we will refer this to the superintendent and it will go through the correct channels. >> Okay. Um, how will I get any information? >> Superintendent or his designate will contact you. So, if you leave your information with Shauna, the board secretary. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Okay. >> Appreciate it. >> Can we keep these pictures? >> Can we Can we hold on to these? >> Yes. Thank you, ma'am. >> Thank you. >> Is there any other? >> Nobody. Okay. Next board member comments. Anybody? >> Uh, just for the band and the course or the drums majors. I had fun. >> Yeah. >> Enjoy it. >> Have a drum major again. That was quite a bummer
