0015:31 on November 17th at 6 o'clock. Uh, attendance roll call, please. >> Here, Lisa here. Nadia here. David >> here. >> Kelly here. >> Here. Absent. >> All right. If you'll stand and face the flag for the pledge of allegiance. I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Vision. Byron Public Schools, a community of learners committed to making the world a better place. Mission to learn, share, innovate, inspire, and priorities. Personalized learning. Personalized learning in the pursuit of academic excellence. Inspire students and staff to develop their character, share their talents, and apply their learning and maintain excellence in resource management. Did we have any visitors sign cards to speak this
002evening? We did not. Okay, we'll move on to approval of the agenda items. Any questions or discussion on the agenda? >> Make a motion to approve the agenda. >> Second. >> Motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. All oppose. Motion carries. Move right into the superintendent report. >> Okay. Um just a couple highlighted items. Um obviously we're super grateful to the community for um listening to me maybe an obnoxious amount uh talk about the referendum, but just all the really great questions um and just the engagement I think across the community. We also appreciate that especially for all the community groups that we went to that a lot of times those groups are just meeting one time a month and when we showed up we basically took their whole meeting. Um
003and so it's it was really great uh community outpouring and so we we're very grateful for um the chance to to use democracy and then obviously in this case um we appreciate the results. Um uh as we've talked about before, our next step in the process is to start working on a strategic plan and we've we started the the initial parts of planning how that works. So um the only other two things I wanted to highlight is um I'm part of an advanced leadership academy which is basically a network of superintendents and we get together um once every six weeks to to listen to guest speakers and this time um Dr. Cherry Woo talked a lot about how um we as leaders can lead um our organizations through times of stress and how we can
004help manage that stress for um for those in the organization. And so, as I said, there's going to be opportunities for me to share some of those insights first with the leadership team, but eventually with the the whole schoolboard. And then the other um idea I wanted to highlight is um that we are working feverishly to implement and enhance our standard response protocol to emergency situations. Um the standard response protocol is uh part of the I love you guys foundation work um that's offered free um to schools like ours and any organization really that wants to do something like that. um we have been practicing um both as at a leadership level but then also at a district office level about how to manage these responses but then also how to reunify um students and
005staff with their loved ones in an accountable and safe way. So anyway, couple other items on the report but those were the ones I wanted to highlight tonight. Okay, any questions or discussion? We'll hand it over to Sean for the financial update. All right. So, here's our giant wall of numbers that we get used to every month. Um, in looking at this and comparing where we were this year to last year as a percentage, um, right in line with where we expect to be, um, the biggest piece for me obviously is looking at our expenditures. Um, that's where we have the most control. Um, everything is tracking fantastically right now compared to the budget that Dan built for us. So, grateful to him for that. Um just want to call out if you look at
006the expenditures by object there with the um salaries and wages at uh just under 17% this year. Um that is a fantastic place to be. Teachers have only been paid four times through this. Um and to be at 17% just over a quarter of the way into the fiscal year is it's right where we want to be. So overall everything looks really good. uh very healthy and uh tracking exactly the way we want it to. >> Any questions or discussion on the financial update? >> Awesome. Thank you. All right, we'll move into old and unfinished business. I don't have any notes. Do you have any? >> All right, sure. Moving into new business. We'll take action on the seniority list. We'll start with the certified staff. So um the seniority list is important when it
007comes time to and it's based on when people were hired and then also the years of completed service that they've uh they've given to the district. And so um every year the school board goes through um and approves the seniority list because we use this we use the seniority list for all sorts of different things and most of it is all centered on on contract language that we had. Um, big thank you to Ann for doing the very tedious task of going through each of these lines, making sure it's updated correctly and that the uh and that uh people are where they should. And then sometimes there um sometimes there's mistakes and so we we communicate with those individuals. But this is the this is the correct seniority list at least for the teachers. >>
008Okay. Do we take action separately? >> What do you think? I think you can do them together. Yeah. Change. >> Take a look at the principles. >> Sorry, mouse pad. Okay. Anyway, the principles are are the same thing except except instead of it being a 150line document, it's a sevenline document. >> Any questions or discussion on this seniority list? Look for a motion to take action on the seniority list. >> I make a motion to approve the seniority list as presented. >> Second >> motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. All opposed. Motion carries. We'll take a look at our second read of policy. Uh start with 712 >> or 601, whichever one you just pulled up. >> Sorry. Um, so again, the the red struck through or red language um
009that isn't struck through is what we would have go in there. And again, these are updates provided to us by MSBA. Um, so that's 712 about video surveillance and then 601 about um district curriculum. Were there any there questions or further discussion on any of the these two policies? >> Need a motion. >> Yes, please. >> I make a motion to accept the policies as read. >> Second. >> Motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. All opposed. Motion carries. We'll take look to take action on the assurance of compliance. Um so this is also an annual um action where uh we have our staff go through a series of trainings and one of those trainings um that we do need to provide an assurance of compliance is on mandated reporter training.
010Making sure that all of our staff that work in schools know that they are mandated reporters and required to follow certain processes and procedures when they um either uh observe or feel like a a child is in danger. So, all of our staff have completed the training. >> Wonderful. >> Okay, we'll look for a motion to take action on the assurance of compliance. >> I make a motion to accept the assurance of compliance as stated. >> Second motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. All opposed. Motion carries. A zed update. >> Yeah. So, um it's I missed last update and our newest uh board meeting is actually this Thursday, but the fall fest, which was right around Halloween, um had happened and that went really well and there was a lot
011of uh families that turned out for that. Um and the that was from from what I can remember that was the the highlight. And unfortunately, I couldn't bring my computer tonight from some issues. So, That's my >> Yep. Everything's going well though and we have the um the discussion on Well, that's for another time, but anyway. Yeah, everything's going well. >> All right. City council update. Were you able to >> Yeah. Uh a couple different things. So, there is a hockey rink that is going up where the old hardware store used to be, you know, where in that >> where Happy China is. >> Ah, >> okay. At the end of that building. Um, >> oh, >> and a normal hockey rink is 200 feet, I believe, and this one's going to be 130 ft.
012So, um, it'll be a little bit smaller, but it gives people more ice time, more practice time. They're going to have, you know, they want to open it up for like family skate. Um, >> outdoor. >> Nope, it's indoor. Yep, it's indoor. So, >> I think lessons and, if I'm not mistaken, are going to be available. >> Yeah. >> And I don't know. I I think they're talking about January even. >> Wow. We like having it ready to go by January 1. I could be wrong on that. Um, let's see. And then the other thing, um, the land right behind there is going to be, um, it's going to be trying to think exactly what he said there. There there's a proposal out there and for like a hotel, a full service restaurant, um assisted
013living um storage units and like a 9,000 ft, excuse me, 9,000 square foot building for community events and things like that. So, the proposal is out there. Um and he just came and talked about it and apparently he's been talking with city council about it already. >> Awesome. Is that in addition to another sports complex I heard about or is that >> It's not a sports complex. So, okay. >> But it's there there was one lonely house there and it used to be in the middle of the country when Byron was not so big. >> Yeah. >> And it's you know it's right across from um the intermediate school >> property up line by trees. >> So anyway, so that'll be happening soonish I believe. >> Um great. We talked Yeah, we talked about Burfest.
014That is Saturday, December 13th. So, it'll be a parade. Uh, let's see. Parade. There's open mic night also for the diversity council that night at Compadres starting at 8. Um, let's see. Parade, tree lighting, and fireworks. That all happens on that night. Um, can't remember if there's anything else. Um, the diversity council, we talked about our open mic nights. There's one. So December 13th and then the second Saturday of January. February's is February 7th. Um so I'm creating the flyer for that and it'll be at compadres like it was last year. So anybody is able to come to that. Um all are invited. So students you can come if you have a talent to share. Um poetry readings, there's uh people in bands, singers, you name it. So, I think that's it. >> Okay. All
015right. Consent agenda. Any any discussion or questions on the consent agenda? >> I'd make a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. >> So, moved. >> Motion. And I'm guessing that was a second. >> So, move doesn't work anymore. Oh, second. We do it. I'm sorry. We do it. Just making sure everything's on up and up and we don't have any questions. >> All right. Uh, all in favor say I. >> I. All oppose. >> Motion carries. Consent agenda approved. We'll move into donations. >> Uh, Christopher and Christine Duncan. $4,000 for bear packs. Uh, I can $100 for the drama program. I can $100 for band program. I can $50 for food pantry. Vibrant Youth Football Association, $1,000 for student admission donation. Uh $1,94960 for varsity football busing donation. $2,000 for Bearpacks. Uh Harvey

017right. Uh, any questions or discussion on donations? >> Make a motion to approve the donations as presented. >> Second. >> Motion and a second. Uh, resolution requires a roll call vote. >> Jeremy, >> I. >> Lisa, >> I. >> Alicia. >> Oh, she's not here. Sorry. >> Hi, >> David. >> Hi, >> Kelly. >> I Carrie. Hi. >> All right. into information miscellaneous. We have a facilities meeting Monday, December 1st at 4:30. Schoolboard listening session Monday, December 1st at 5:30 and then a work session to follow that at 6:00. >> Who's on for the listening session?
