001Okay, 6:00. Um Kyle will not be here tonight. You want to say the pledge of allegiance? >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, um first we'll start with changes to the motion for changes to the agenda. Um first first one are do I Let's see, we've got two items that we're changing. Um we're changing um and 290. Do we have a motion? >> a motion to approve the changes. >> Thank you, Dan. >> I'll second. >> Thank you, Cole. All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Okay, now a motion to approve the agenda. >> So moved. >> Thank you, Angie. >> Second. >> Thank you, Dan. All in
002favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Okay, public input. I don't think we have any tonight. Um recognitions and good things happening. First off, we want to say congratulations to to class of 2026 graduates. We're very proud of you. And annually in May, the school district formally congratulates the LO school school district retirees. Thank you for your service. Um we do have Tim Bly, head custodian. He's retiring this year. Thank you, Tim. Kathy Dudley, thank you, Kathy Kathy. And Jill Salter. Um Jill has been with the school district for many years. I know she's taught Angie and myself. >> Not as Mrs. Salter. >> So, thank you, Jill. Um we appreciate all your services to the school district. Um congratulations to the Cardinal Kids Cardinal Care Department. The annual state inspection came back with zero citations. Great
003job. Thank you. And then the South uh Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation selected school district's grant application to receive over 100 books from ABDO Publishing and Capstone Publishing for early learning and reading initiatives. Congratulations to the school district. Thank you all who made that possible. Um reports. Staff or student representative report? >> Okay. So, currently the seniors are on their senior trip, which they should be coming back tomorrow, if I'm correct. And then graduation is this Friday in the big gym at 7:00 p.m., the 22nd. Um and spring sports are starting their playoffs, and our Our team is hosting subsections this year, which is tomorrow, the 20th. The last day of school is on the 28th with dismissal at noon. And then the middle school high school concert was on the 11th last week. And the
004senior baccalaureate and awards were last Sunday, the 17th. And with the elementary, they just had their touch a truck, which was on the 6th. And their concert and art show was on the 4th. They have had numerous field trips including an Air Insanity trip that's coming up for the safety patrol on the 20th. And then the kindergartner the kindergartner graduation is on the 27th at 2:00 p.m. And then with the FFA, the plant sale began on the 4th and is 50% off from now until inventory is all gone. And that's everything I have. >> Thank you. Um school board committee reports. Um I'll I'll start with the with the search committee. Um We had a a really good a really good process. Um starting we had four candidates. Um the committee vetted out two. And
005um the first one did not have state credentials. They were out of state. So um they And then the second one um after background checks, we we determined that that would not be a good fit for the school district. Um so we had two finalists. Um One of the finalist the week the the week of uh interview process backed out. Um said that she was pursuing another another opportunity. Um so we had um one one uh candidate left. Uh Jeff Teague. Um We had three three-phase interview process. One Aaron conducted a tour showing the school district staff had question question answer. And the board had question answer and we had community members present. >> How many community members? >> We had three. We appreciate appreciate the community members that came in. Um We we were
006impressed with um his direction that one of the go with community community engagement. Um he was very focused on students. And um we we believe I can't remember everything I wrote in the email. But we we believe that he's a good communicator um and somebody he's been in administration for 16 years in the area and he's got a strong network with schools that that we work with. Um so the committee is recommending we move to negotiation committee to to move to the next step. Um any questions? >> Do we have to we have a negotiation committee, right? >> Yes. Yep. Oh, sorry. Um After after the interview, we did have two two more candidates put applied. Um one was out of state asking for state credentials. I never got a response back. And the second
007one was somebody who is in the process. And um I asked if there was a plan for for them to um when they would have their credentials finalized. Um I asked for they offered their professor's name. And then she never or they never responded back within six It's been six days. If if there's no more questions, do we have any other committee reports? Okay. Principal's report. >> All right. A little bit of wrapping up the year and starting out the new year already. So we're going to be hitting the summer. I got to make some plans for some really good data diving with all the read act requirements now. We've had to add a couple assessments with CAP D read basics and our dibbles along with our excel we continue to do and our MCAP
008testing. Once we get all that data back, we're going to have to really dive into some staff development and um things we have to move forward with. Um we'll continue with our implementation and practice of our RCD program here and I continue with our Marzano method of our teacher evaluations. Um the the next year's schedules to for the students, they will be handed out before they go home for the summer. Um obviously everything is always subject to change based on personnel. Um I'll talk about what we need to what we're looking for yet at the end here. Um Read Act, uh we are currently in phase two. Um that's just supposed to end in the summer of 2027, I believe. Um so that is sometime out there. Next year the big focus will be on
009interventions based on the data we received out of the uh assessments I mentioned up top. Um so there is going to be it's going to be quite extensive. Um It gets to be almost weekly um on my end of things I have to attend or or do, so um we'll be busy with that next year. Um custodial updates, uh we're continuing on with our maintenance plans and cycles and getting those into the place. Um as um Tim Bly's era is coming to an end, and hopefully we can pick up and without any hiccups with the information that I've been gathering over the last year, so. Um Math curriculum, we are still looking at samples and researching that could be our next curriculum that we need to um purchase. We are desperately in need of updating
010our curriculum and getting up-to-date training um on that as well. Master schedules, kind of the same as the student schedules. Obviously they'll be handed out before the teachers go home for the summer. However, once again, subject to personnel issues or or non-issues, it could be subject to change. Um some reports that I do before June 1st are the disciplinary report for MDE, and then the literacy plan, which is tied with the Read Act requirements as it's pretty hefty out there for doing that stuff. So those are just some things we have to do. What I'm still looking for tonight, hopefully you will approve the hiring of a the final school high school fire teacher. She will then fill out her full-time position. She will help out in special ed room because we're still looking for
011special ed as well. She has experience in teaching so she's willing to do that for us there. Still in the process of looking to replace Kathy Dudley for the math teacher. And a half-time title position and at least a half-time another special ed position to get us up to two at least for that. So we're getting there. We did get another custodial applicant and filled out that roster but with retirement we're going to be reposting for another another one to see if we can get at least another part-time if not a full-time all depends on the budget looks. But we're getting some people. We're getting some interest. I think we're approving even a head girls basketball coach tonight so we're starting to see some names trickling getting some people interested in Leroy so if we
012get them here we're trying to be creative on how to keep them here. With that with some positions so that's kind of what I'm up to right now. We'll get rest of the week we'll be focusing on graduation. Next week will be more focused on checkout. I do one-on-ones with the teachers before they leave exit interviews for them. Kind of I give them kind of my assessment of all the year with they give me kind of what their assessment and then we make plan on what their improvements are going to be moving into next year. Um Yeah, so that's really finalizing schedules and really looking for people. Cuz we know what we're doing now so any questions for me? >> So the maintenance plan cycles is that basically complete now since you've >> Well, I've
013been keeping them as the months went on and I got them from Tim. Um I have a whole binder and I have everything in it with the new super with the new lead or head custodian has to do is take that and put that into their own kind of yearly map, but all the information they need I believe we've gathered. I got all the contacts of all the all the companies we use kind of month by month of what their big projects will be like, you know, waxing is this time of the year and stuff like that. So we have it all in there. It's I was trying to do my best to keep it organized, but we gathered all the information. Now we really need to sit down and really focus on putting it
014to the new person has the information. They just need to put it in something where they're going to understand it, so. >> Are we going to hold like another um night where like people can if they're interested in going to LeRoy can see like what the school has to offer and stuff like that? >> Yeah, last year we tried beginning of August, I believe we tried an open house before the at normal open house. Um I don't know that will probably be a conversation when we kind of get um closer to that, but I I would say yeah, we we would probably try something along those lines and throw out some advertising and hopefully by that time maybe we have all of our positions filled, maybe we've added this, maybe we've done that, so maybe
015more positive PR stuff um we can throw out there at that time. So it's not going to hurt. We got actually we have a tour tomorrow. Lauren and I have a tour with a family of two students, so. Um we get a couple. This is about the time of the year I get usually get a couple right before summer. >> Mhm. >> And then it's pretty quiet for the summer and then August is when it picks up again, so. Beginning of August when everybody kind of returns and the sports start kicking up and people start doing that, I will try to do another one before the fall. Is that anything else? All right, sounds good. >> Thank you, Aaron. Uh superintendent report. >> All right, I just got a couple things for you tonight. Uh
016the first thing is if you are not busy on June 23rd, I'm going to go be picking up those 100 books. So I wrote the grant late January. Um I was so shocked that I got the grant. I was so happy, but then I realized I have to go pick them up though, too. So anyway, but I'll be doing that, but once they come out, I'll take some pictures and stuff and send them off to you guys, but we're pretty excited. We got 100 um English language learner books and then 10 that are Spanish books. So um and I I don't know all of them yet, so we'll see, but I'll send you pictures. So I'm actually excited about that. That was fun. And working through the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, it's a great foundation,
017and they really really stress early learning. And so um they they actually came in when we had our big um meeting with all our early learning staff, they came in I invited them in and they helped us a lot with stuff and gave me some ideas how to write write grants, and so I got this one. So but yes, it's on the 23rd, and so you'll see pictures after that. Not real excited to drive my husband's truck, but that's all right. Um you guys may recall that I talked to you about I wrote a grant for an indoor um mapping. So basically it's basically um have a map of the building that's now up-to-date with Mower County, so when there's a 911 call, we are more safe here. So right away information with our final
018kind of push for information from each school district was mid-April. Now they had one more final push with a couple detailed questions last week, so I should hear more in June. If not, Aaron's also I have him as a secondary contact for later on, but that did get approved and we're good to go on that. So you'll see that eventually probably this summer sometime. Um oh, another one, too. So Tiffany, Tim, and I have worked hand in hand uh quite a bit, but we get an official grant or notification for her summer stuff that she does. And that's through Dave and I actually talked about it today, and it's the agricultural education summer grant opportunity. A lot of times our agriculture teachers do a lot of stuff in the summer related to FFA. And so
019this is a nice opportunity for her for her time to get paid for it. So it's not coming out of your budget, but it's coming through the state, which is really nice. So you see it in your budget because it's an incoming money for you. So you'll be able to see that. But speaking of money, so last night at midnight Congress did adjourn. I was a little surprised. This is the first year I haven't received some sort of information from MSBA or MASA or some sort of sort of guiding institution to let us know kind of the big ticket items especially. So my guess is sometime this week you'll get an email from me indicating what kind of big ticket items Leroy will get hit with. But again, it just ended last night. They adjourned
020last night. So keep your eyes peeled for those emails about you know, congressional updates for sure because that'll be the big one. Finally, in June every year you will be approving your revised budget and then your budget. So as we kind of set you up for June, I just want to remind you guys of a couple things to you're prepared for June of what you'll see. So you had a June approval last year. Now again, you have a budget, but you have a revised budget that always comes. So you get to adjust your budget all the time, which you have to do in an institution. So you had that in June. You had your truth in taxation, your auditor's presentation. Remember we had Dan come in and he talked like the month after I talked
021about oh, that deficit you're going to have of about 300,000, that special ed stuff when I handed that out to you guys. So we'll talk a little bit more about that. We did talk about paid family medical leave and that has hit us. So you'll see that in the budget, too. So I don't want to shock any of you guys with what's coming. And then, of course, the weekly congressional emails, those are really, really important as board members to read because a lot of what we build our budget with is what they're giving us or not giving us. Um and so, just kind of be prepared for that, come with questions, whatever it may be. Um but, it's going to be your regular basically three line items. You'll approve your long-term facility maintenance that we
022redid five years ago, so you get revenue. You have your um revised budget. So, your current budget that you're in, but let's revise it a little bit to make it more accurate. And then, your final budget. So, you'll have three things to approve next month. And so, it'll be a little bit longer meeting than tonight, but we got to do it. >> Yep. >> We got to do it. So, there you go. That's all for me. >> Okay. Um Consent agenda. Um First, uh approving the the April regular meeting minutes. Um treasurer's report. Do we have any questions on the treasurer's report? Okay. Um recommendation to approve the following fundraiser for the Washington D.C. trip, 2026-2027, um Puffins. 50/50 raffle, holiday wreath, tip night, various different various locations, uh soup luncheons, breakfast, cookie walk, and
023craft fair. Um our personnel items, um recommendation to approve the 2026-2027 contract of Dylan Emerson, technology specialist. Recommendation to approve the 2026-2027 contract for Ian Thompson community uh director. Recommendation to approve 2026-2027 contract for Leanne Dries, community and coordinator. Recommendation to approve the '26-'27 contract for Nikki Bergen, assistant to the athletic director. Recommendation to approve the '20-'26-'27 contract for Kristen Stevens, pool manager. Recommendation to approve the re- resignation of Justin Stevens, head boys basketball coach, effective immediately. >> Um >> Recommended uh recommendation to approve the hiring of Steve Hasser? >> Hauser. >> Hous- Hauser? Head girls basketball coach for 2026-2027. And then recommendation to approve the hiring of Jean >> Wolverton. >> Wolverston? >> Wolverton. >> Wol- Wolverton. Uh this is the the PE and special ed uh position. And then recommendation to approve the
024resignation letter for Kristen Stevens head JV volleyball coach, effective immediately. And then the recommendation to approve the hiring of Jacob Shoulder Schroeder part-time custodian, starting June 1st. Do we have a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> I so move. >> Thank you. >> I'll second. >> Thank you, Dan. If all in favor? >> I. I. >> Opposed? Okay, pass. >> Okay. Let's see. Next one we've got the approval for the 2026 graduation class. We have a >> I'll make a motion. >> Okay. Thank you, Angie. Thanks, Dan. All in favor? >> Aye. >> Kyla will not be here. Let's see. The approval of the resolution for membership into the Minnesota State High School League school year 26-27. >> I'll make the motion. >> Thank you, Dan. >> I second. >> Thank you, Jess. >>
025Do we have to do a roll call? >> Yeah. >> Oh, this is a roll call. Yeah. Okay. Uh Dan? >> Yes. >> It's a yes for me. Angie? >> Yep. >> Kyla is absent. >> Yes. >> Nicole? >> Yep. >> Okay. Jess? >> Yes. >> Okay. Approval of long-term substitute teachers pay at 2026-27 external long-term sub pay to go into effect on the 11th consecutive day for the same teacher. Okay. Sorry about that. Uh do we have a motion? >> I so move. >> Thank you, Jess. Second? >> I'll second. >> Thank you, Nicole. All in favor? >> Aye. >> Opposed? Motion >> Approval of the teacher makeup day due to weather in the master agreement. Uh it was third quarter meeting with Larry Thompson to be counted toward 4 hours and then another
0264 hours to be made up and approved by Aaron. Um I Do we have a motion? >> I have a motion to approve. >> Thank you, Dan. A second? >> I second. >> Thank you, Joyce. All in favor? >> I. >> Opposed? Okay, approve the tax abatement application for Donald and Judy Orm parcel 26.004.0042. Um this is just uh new just notification of new building in the area. Um it's This is just uh notification. You know, I have a motion. >> I'll make the motion. >> Thank you, Dan. Second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Angie. All in favor? >> I. >> Opposed? Okay, and now um discussion and approval of the open school board seat vacancy. Um this one here in the past when we've had vacancies, we've we've put out posting um asking for
027interest from the community. If there's anybody who is interested in joining the school board, um this is a great opportunity to kind of dip their toes in the water uh to to feel out if they think that the school board is something that they would enjoy doing. Um and in an election year, this would be a a great great opportunity for someone that has some kind of interest, um So, what we've done is put out posting, and then when we get the the applications in, then the the board here will will review and and make a decision. >> And we said that's for a year until we can do elections. >> Well, it'd be election this November, yeah. Yep. Yep. And and then if and then if that person feels like it's something they want
028to do, then they could they could go for the this year's election. >> Um can you appoint somebody though? >> Yep. Yep. >> And then there wouldn't be an election. >> Right. Yep. >> No, there still would be an election. >> There still would be Yeah, just for the >> in November. So, the term is basically from when we accept their application. >> No, because after you pick someone, they have to sit for 30 days because there's a period where the community could put together a petition if they wanted, and if there's a certain number threshold, I think it's 20%. Don't quote me. >> Yep. >> Um if if 20% of the voting population said we don't want that person, then you're starting back at square one. >> Right. Okay. >> What happens if we
029have no one who Then you would likely go out and look for someone and say, "Could you join the board?" >> Okay. >> But I'm saying if this person if we accept someone So, their term if their their term would end in November. >> Mhm. >> December. Well, yes. January's when the new one starts. But, yes. >> I think we're saying the same thing, just not in the same way. >> Well, I think she's just pointing out like there's a 30-day hold. So, like once we accept it, they can't sit at the board for 30 days, right? >> Correct. >> Right. >> But, my question was what? Making sure that people know that the term would only be through December. >> And then did we say we were going to come up with questions that
030we wanted to ask, or we just going to have them like when they send in their interests, kind of give us like what they're planning on doing, or why they're interested? Like what is the format we're looking for when we post it? >> Um I can't remember if we had questions in the past. >> We have? >> Sometimes yes, sometimes no. They've done it both ways. >> Right. >> We interview them, too. >> Mhm, yep. We've actually interviewed them. >> That's true. Yeah. Oh, wait. After the posting, when we get interest, we can develop some Right. We we can do we can come up with some questions that we all approve on that would be that we think would be valuable questions to ask. >> And then if we have an abundance, maybe we can
031decide if we want to interview or not. >> Correct. Yep. Okay, do we have a motion to to put the post up? >> Do you want to finalize the deadline, though? >> Oh, yeah. Um >> So, how long does it take to put the post out? >> It could probably go out tomorrow, I'm thinking. >> And when you say post, you're posting it on the school website or >> I I wouldn't newspaper or >> I wouldn't say put one in the paper, too. >> I'll be a second. Thank you. >> When will it go in? It'll go in next week. >> Okay. >> I think. >> Cuz it That has to be in by Tuesday, right? >> Yeah. >> And our legal publication is the website, so you want it out there for >> Yep.
032>> So, I'd say at least 2 weeks for people to respond, right? At the minimum. And if it's going in the newspaper, that's another week, so that's 3 weeks out. At least. >> Mhm. >> Do we want to give people 2 weeks to respond, or do we want to like 3 weeks to see if we can get more interest? >> Well, we're hoping to have a candidate if someone decided >> Right. >> at the next meeting, so >> would be the ideal. >> So, calendar, 2 weeks then? >> 2 weeks, sure. >> Would seem an appropriate timeline because >> Mhm. >> we want to get them back. We got to figure out if we're going to do questions, if we're going to do interviews, and if we want to choose someone by the next meeting.
033>> Mhm. >> So, by June 2nd? Uh or do you mean 2 weeks after the newspaper? >> Right. >> The 9th. So, 1 week before your next meeting would be the close date. You could do that. >> Right. >> That gives you time to develop questions. >> Got it. >> I'm confident the Minnesota School Boards Association probably has some you could take. >> Yeah. >> They'll probably use some. >> Okay. >> So, is it the 9th do you want, or do you want the week before? The 2nd or the 9th? You tell me. I guess I'd say the sooner the better, so the second? It gives us more time. >> Oh, what would be the date that it would go in the paper? I don't know. >> Um he said it'd be out next week.
034>> A week A week from Thursday. >> Yeah, so the 28th. >> That doesn't give people that respond to it from the newspaper very long. >> And then the next meeting is here. >> Mhm. >> The 9th, then, or >> Yeah, I'd say go with the 9th. >> 4:00? Okay. >> Okay. Okay. So, need a motion to post for the vacancy on June 9th. Um do we have a motion? >> So, to post on the 9th or to end the post? >> To end the post on the 9th, yeah. >> Uh so moved. >> Okay. Thank you, Nicole. Second? >> I second. >> Okay, thank you, Jess. All in favor? >> I'd like to abstain, just >> Okay. >> because of the advertising. >> Okay. Okay. Dan to abstain. Um any opposed? Okay. >> I
035have one more question. >> Yes. Yes. >> How are we asking for responses back? Like are we asking emails, letters? Like is it going to come all different ways? I think it can come any way. >> Yeah. Yeah, it can I would I would say if they want to email, that'd be great. Um >> Or would you prefer >> Right. Um if they're by some chance they don't have email, a written letter to the district office would be would work. Okay. The district calendar, May 22nd graduation at 7:00 p.m. The 25th is Memorial Day, no school. The 28th, end of the fourth quarter. And the next meeting is June 17th. Motion to adjourn? >> So moved. >> Thank you, Dan. >> Second. >> I'll second. >> Give me four. All in favor? >> Aye. >>
036Opposed? 6:35.
