I let us pray father we give you thanks for all that you do for all that you are and we ask you Lord that as we go through our agenda today that you would keep our eyes fixed upon thee learning and capabilities of our students our teachers and stay father bless them as they're coming towards the end of the year give them strength and we ask you to watch over and protect us we pray in Jesus name Amen I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible yes and as you own the eighth year through our partnership of the Virginia School Boards Association we have the owner of recognize any local businesses who have partnered with us to enhance

the instruction of our students and the support of our staff as many work to support student growth and success so this morning we are happy to share with you our three honorees or this year and they are Eastman Chemical Company this morning Shawn paste the site manager at the patriot center is here with us and he will be in a photo with mosaics in dr. cotton is just a moment that this year alone Eastman has participated in providing teacher training for mathematics from teachers last summer that without a trending in Tennessee for two of our teachers for a special program that they do in conjunction with East Tennessee and this year they are bringing that program to Henry County for a larger group of teachers so we're very appreciative of that but additionally Eastman provides

a safe driving program for all of our drivers education students each spring and students just participated in that this last month they have done a book drive for a classroom mechanic or elementary they've donated to our teacher recognitions for Teacher of the Year and they send engineers to eat Week at New College each year for our students and they mentor and judge the Lego robotics competition here in town so we're very grateful and have a partnership Eastman additionally we are honoring lows today through our Lowe's Heroes program that was done in lots of different cities we were chosen by Mike maze the local Lowe's manager and a group of less employees dedicated their days off to install raised bed gardens at 10 of our schools this year which means out of our 14 schools now

we have 13 schools that have raised bed gardens totals are students we've benefiting from learning about the grossest planets and eating those plants as they raise them and learn more about fruits and vegetables from the benefits of this garden side thought to ask my base to come forward this morning as well and finally but certainly not least for us is our local SPCA in addition to reinstituting the read to the paw program where elementary students Kimbo confidence in their reading fluency are reading to animals that are brought in by volunteers the SPCA has provided opportunities for several of our students this year to demonstrate their talents throughout the community many of our students were crucial in developing the designs and the graphics for the zombie room that was held back in the hall and recently

we had several students who worked through their spanish class to translate documents for the SPCA so they are giving our students practical opportunities to demonstrate their skills and should learn what it's like to use this skills in a business setting so we appreciate the SBT a this morning we have nicole harris Allison Blevins and Mary constant here to represent them is the good morning madam chair and members of the board on behalf of a nice is the student services specialist I'm presenting the first reading of mccubbin contact miss cons are you recent state legislation and school divisions code of conduct and if committee was developed to review the legislation in our current code and the committee composed of elementary middle and high school administrators the sky our crisis team coordinator in shively myself and miss

Amy strengthen our decision support ended and we review the changes and we just thought we looked at producing a document that was concise and also consistent across the division and recommendations part of the attached document that you have free to you and this is just for the first read certainly gave any questions you can contact me Scott good morning are you proposed revisions last one we have some additional revisions this one and we are proposing revisions to reflect efforts to bring policies and regulations into compliance with your existing laws or guidance as normal the revisions can be found with Ward dots under the future cab policies under consideration however because we have in two months in a row they're all under the same tab so i just wanted to point out that the ones i'm

going to discuss today or the other ones that are you this time policy team ddh and katie public participation at school board meetings have memorized to direct persons who wish to appear before the school board to contact the clerk of the board replacement on the meeting agenda also to provide those who do not request placement on the agenda seven days prior to the meeting they will have the ability to sign up to speak on the day of board meeting by signing a public comment form to be made available to them 15 minutes begins if you can you h dash r1 + kv h r1 guidelines for public comment these are the regulations that accompanied the policies that we reverence they include the same changes as indicated for the policies guidelines have also been revised to

encourage individuals with complaints about a particular school to use the complaint resolution procedure that's outlined in policy KL public complaints prior to requesting to make public comments directly to the school board and policy jgd jgb student suspension and expulsion have been revised to extend many of the responsibilities relating to long-term student suspensions of these suspensions of more than 10 days and or expulsion to extend to a division superintendent superintendent sesame or disciplinary review committee the same responsibilities in addition to the school board it also provides that a disciplinary review hearing will be conducted using the same procedures as a school board hearing these provisions are being revisions are being provided to you in his time on an informational basis and then I imagine school board for approval after next video jun 2nd 2016 any questions

usually we bring all of the revisions to you all the time we need a little bit more time on these particular ones we wanted to have some more time to work on them but as mrs. Lane is noted you know we still have the same process where people get on the agenda seven days in advance but we wanted to add an option for people who sign up today I'm meeting and she heard us describe so that people who missed the seven day window still have the opportunity to speak which I after talking for cheerleading the other one related to student discipline it's really more focused on long-term suspensions and the appeal process we use discipline review committee not all school divisions do that they have one person that will hear the appeal we wanted to

make sure we kept that in there as an option because we like to have more than one person sometimes hear a case to make sure that we get more perspectives so you'll notice that it's really more in there as different options and that's just to provide some flexibility but that's for the long term suspension the short short arm suspension lesson in days the principal makes the decision on that appeal and then the Symington's designee can make a final decision on Matthew some school board's here every few and we like to have this process in place so that the appeal happens at a lower level but certainly some of these appeals to come to you as you know but we did consider that we were already working on revising the public comment policies regulations but we

made sure and you ver dissipated say we encourage then you go through the proper channels is not a choir so certain page somebody wants to come to a board meeting and talk about number of things they can do that but it's certainly encouraged that they go through the proper channels prior to that we offer those opportunities especially if it's related to a staff member we like to address those just quickly as possible rather than waiting for the warning but as you know sometimes people do want to warn me that was the biggest thing that stood out to me about that very general recommendation was that we requested that comment that food names and specifics and the Attorney General saying that that can't be prohibited isn't it correct I mean if we're not comfortable with that

one consideration is we don't have to a public comment at our meetings certainly another option and the reason that we discourage them from gaining people is not that worth wanted to avoid racism criticize sleep on daily basis but the problem you have is when people are here to speak to what's being said especially when we're recording these meetings sadness I mean there's definitely not it's non-binding but the big consideration which are ions and people come up invention students names and say just touched my job or hurt my job or did something it's in solid meetings idea yeah and you know the problem is we've always w can't in you know students names but could be I guess I think what the practical consideration to generalize obviously we mentioned student staying positive with all the time

so it's sort of like award so it's our rule i think is in practice probably not content neutral because we allow people to open praise that will be in students but we our policy was don't say okay so it kind of does presenter i can see we practice where we never mention students name or teachers english talking things over an early so i guess but as you point out this code specifically said we can actually public comment there's public hearing apartments we have chosen to have did it also have something in there about the person's ability to address the board in closed session they did ok we won't look at that also when you're looking at we can't we good morning I have a chair members let's go board want to do I kind of

give you another update this month on how about a few Elementary's coming along if you driven by there later you notice the visibility's a lot better then we got the trees cut down along to 108 route-running so just to grubbing is left one little scrub trees your left so we're pretty excited about that hopefully in the next month you'll see some power lines being relocated but they're going to follow a long parallel with one away as well so we'll start those relocations also as you know Jim patient the Henry County with Henry County has been actively involved in this project repeal the law and he's been send us some of his team members out to monitor the settlement remember them pregrated runs purpose and that was will remove the dirt over to that hole was

to watch it give it plenty of time to settle and so they've been monitoring of settlement ROG we've seen very little movement on this which is really great and that's exactly what we wanted to give time for that settle before we start building built everything's looking well with that we did make several champs this past month negotiated project with the with the apparent Louis Twitter from the person from here but didn't have much success with that so we think it's in the best interest in your County Schools it would make a few changes to the scope and now send us out for wee bit and so our attempt is going to be where and send it back out for a bit May twenty-third and ask for bids to return back in on jun 22nd just

want to give you those quick updates to get any questions or where we stand at this point with them what do you need on the scope they build a smaller net necessary great question it's not we're not affecting anything with the square footage of the building but we will have some scope things such as a bull who'll bid maybe the sewer line separately or make a few tweaks on the mechanical system to help bring that price down some maybe change a little bit of the aesthetics on the outside in the back of the building sir minor changes that lead up Adam that comes to save us some money when we get some creepy they're your people urban budget reader awesome links of the original budget yes next I think based on the market at this

point I think we're opening other other places are having the same same issue and we try to work with the lowest bidders who resolve some issues and that didn't work out so obviously it's not ideal we don't like pushing back the the opening but essentially they have about four million dollar prompt these four million dollars over we anticipated so we believe is always everyone to go back through this process and we we also believe there are some folks at mainland we are playing to include the full-size gym this round remember that was an option that we had but when I've heard from the board as well as forcing problems and others that there's a lot of support for the full-size gym we're going to build this school in that direction so we're trying to include

section of our agenda give consent agenda there's several items there he may pull at me you school board policies on second good morning it down as I referenced earlier we presented a number of revisions and two policies and regulations at the April school board meeting we provided at that time a summary of the major changes and those changes have been posted on board docs throughout the month of April hopefully you've had an opportunity to go out and review them in more detail and are comfortable with what those changes are at this time it is recommended that the policy revisions that were presented in April he approved as presented all secondly sometime in the past who talked about 1 to 10 point green sale just drop that ball you still looking at their what I would

like to do for you is provide you with an update on plans we are good morning madam chair members aboard the new tech network provides Frank Morgan support of the project based learning that you've seen had their warrior tank magna vista and that we will implement next year at bass in high school and the bengal tech tool academy other new tech cavities focus on developing a culture which promotes trust respect and responsibility of our students and the students work on projects with teams the students are humble to their peers and my responsibilities that are similar to that the faculty in the workplace when we become members of the new tech network we are providing special development for the through network as well as comes in to support teaching our teachers how to best implement project-based

learning and we also provide access to the ecosystem which you all have seen before whereas parents and students can see their progress with four cities as well as Asian students are with working together and their own responsibilities it is recommended that school will recruit memberships the new tech network for the final year of the warrior tech Academy that calls would be approximately thousand dollars it would be paid fy17 harvest budget and to improve from up to one two three years of support for Fingal take the total calls for all three years would be three hundred twenty-seven thousand six hundred dollars for three-year coverage of total support pinning available funds from my 16 budget but we also want to ask it would you not have those available funds that you would approve us to come from

the FY 17 budget purchase services so once again i'm asking you recommend the final year of the warrior tech academy and up to three years as a board for the people that are happening if you have any questions minimal support for the ecosystem and not sure my pricing thought he could if it would change depending on if we're able to sustain disease have a system in other places per child and also as you realize that before you take alyssa for your support the river with engl tech we're implementing two grades to start with so we'll started the ninth and tenth grade year at ingalls head so it will take just three years to see our first class finish anything make a motion breathe I understand why it's going to be three years for the classroom

prove it that's three years of support versus four years of support I'm not sure what we're basing it on when a class is going to graduate versus the number of years of support for the program he's actually based on how he's graduating he's on the training so what happens is each summer here in the year how many were teachers are in the program they are allowed on what so when magnum is starting and they had five teachers those five teachers were their training was free that we have to provide the transportation the hotel rooms but those five teachers are the only ones that were trying this year that's will be spending 11 teachers to training so it's the same price of just run out differently because technically warrior tank could provide support to bassett at

a lower cost but we know I've acid he's the same level support that man mr. Seidman really comes down to look at when will reach full implementation because that's when you know all the teachers on board and identified that's when they'll be trying we did a much slower implementation when I see you take words but we reach teachers will be involved in training they will support they will support pass it by I wanted to make sure that the facet got the same support from the national network but certainly there may be supporting each other you can move forward and if we talk about middle schools they're going to provide support there as well we are and which exciting magna vista is getting ready to become a demonstration site a laptop that because they're already posting

visits on regular basis that there about a year away with the coming demonstration sites so they're actually going to be a national site for people to visit from time to time Henry County uses instructional coaches or consultants to visit our schools to provide best practices and provide feedback to teachers for principals and also to instructional staff in the past we've used these instructional coaches or consultants as pull out we wire serves and we've had our interest of training our new models that we want to use these sell professionals to come into our schools and push in and they report the teachers during their planning period or they work with them while they're actually teaching students so they can see the first time experience of what is actually happening in the classroom and provide instant feedback

and suggestions on strategies while they're in the classroom with teacher and students it is recommended that the board approve via instructional consultants approaches for 2016-17 school year and division to exercise subsequent renewals in accordance with the term contract this is an RFP that we do have standing the estimated cost of a hundred sixty thousand dollars would all be paid from the 2017 harvest budget any questions mr. Milner that this already been approved by harvest or there's something we expect from the way the harvest grants were three reports were on three per cycle so this is your warning by Brian and we written the same component in year one so we with our we will actually call so they actually did survive the ball and I don't there was a terminology changing our EP was actually

worried if you used to go to state instructional coaches and they're really instructional consultants however with our TV were that way these days I same terminology but yes there are coaches are the people that we use in our elementary school that they pay out of title one and they most definitely do work with our elementary teachers and our coaches at reading specialist at my staff to make sure that we're implementing best practices you sir every year I come before the board to present our special education annual plan which out on someone spending on federal funding to support our special lectures and programs for the upcoming school year similar two years in the past we are directed by the Department of Education to use the same grant award that you received for the current year as

an estimated amount for the upcoming school year until the final award is issue in July and then we'll adjust that you have the attached budget outlines to reference how the money is broken down but you'll notice that there's the 1 million nine hundred seventy thousand six hundred thirty-three dollars that we're using as our preliminary amount thirteen thousand eight hundred and forty two dollars and one cent is the estimated set aside funds that will be used this is a formula that we use to determine how much money setting aside to spend for speech services that would provide contrarily place private school students onus would be our students at Carlisle let me eligibility criteria for speech so what we do require we are required to set aside money to pay for that our grant is a hundred

percent be impossible we do pay a majority of the funds for highly qualified teachers and highly qualified professionals we want to make sure that we're supporting the envisioned 2018 goals and the division's mission we also pay from this money some staff for doing accepted school year services in the Sun that this isn't all the teachers and paraprofessionals we have in specialty it was about half so the other half of P from local funds some of the services that come out of the money we pay for medical examinations for certain students who require that again our summer program and this year we're going to incorporate some field experiences during our summer program every year we try to do something different and if this works we hope to incorporate that and years to come as something different

we want a summer program to look different and have different experiences for the students than they give demaree for school year Devo music program Tracy prillaman we have a partnership with her she did a presentation before you met Tracy she runs a cathode and the vivo is the special education portion of her music program we piloted it with one program in Willow Park and this year we actually added four other school programs and in the future we would like her to continue to do that for our different especially groups of students so she kind of rotate those so should we look forward in our classes each semester and that has been a wonderful program and I'll make seven think that gear available please help tonight on this day in the morning or a carpet after

you can see the program monkey make sure you get the details of that remember Cain thought we came towards it's wonderful to see the computerized iup system that we use these eip we pay for chromosomes we are going to a statewide IEP system I don't know when that's going to be cut out I don't we did volunteer your pilot site but I don't think they've even selected that yet so eventually we'll have the state I pieces kind of that cause I'm sorry independent living skills is something else that we're going to add to our program next year we want our students to really have some real life relevant experiences so we're going to do some things we partnered with some of the community agencies to have our students that should go out and do some

things that mirror what they expected you to do when they leave the school system orientation mobility services again plays it for blind visually impaired students so that they can get around in the community and live independently once they're in school and some professional development activities for teachers and staff also child mind activity to make sure the parents and the community is aware of our programs and how they can access those by screens and also quickly and paper parental involvement our chairperson of our special advisory committee it's very active and will attend things at the state level bring back ideas so that we can get more parents involved in their child's education speech services again teaching materials supplies is a technology devices I passed infusion FM systems are other things that would spend the money for

again our goal is to support collagen of your readiness for our students as well anytime our students are gone before they have communication issues you want to make sure that we are giving them a way to express themselves and to be advocate for themselves and their some kind of augmentative communication device 3 186 144 for our students you know reading is key post-secondary transition towards this is parkours to butcher wilson this bliss takes a group every semester to tour the facility they also do interest inventories and jim career inventories to see what matches with the students ability community based curriculum transition planning with our stables self-determination you may remember that this group did a presentation on self-determination that she did with the middle schools and this is something one continues and the students do have

those ability to advocate for themselves and understand what their disability is and then you participate in southern Virginia defects so also to kind of your arches some ideas just career path that they won't be interested in the same plan their school additionally to our annual award is our preschool funds this is our project 619 this amount is renamed the same for past couple of years I wouldn't like to see they go through the scale our child can I didn't mention on previous slide but it didn't increase from 1025 to 1037 and our funds are based on a formula that incorporates child count local composite index as well as all child a school-age children in the county so that would include one soul city and there's some kind of formula that comes up with that number

I don't know what it is not probable interested in any way but it's very difficult to predict where our more it's going to be but the preschool when he has stayed the same good past couple of years is again under percent reimbursable you mention it or is that due to the overall increase in students or overall the increase in our screen the big one it's a little bit of all of those things we do try to get we have it increase the number of screens that we do because we screen throughout the summer for preschool age students and then that number does include preschool age and then we also have a higher number of students in the school division so our eligibility criteria hasn't changed but we are we did evaluate a lot more people

who do but we can are typically will back away about 100 students every year but then they kind of come and go the balances out the assembly graduating someone exit system this year we've done over a hundred and fifty initial eligibility meetings which has been pretty significant so that knuckles will probably increase next year as well similar in our preschool learning summer program preschool conferences educational supplies to the arrangement experiences what our students preschool programs are required to incorporate like field trip kinds of experiences child find activities equipment you'll notice we pay one preschool teacher that's the Early Childhood Special Education yes he stand for we paid one teacher we actually have six programs item is the Special Education Advisory Committee you asked the question last year about their information was redacted and we can

discuss that it was that is also something I special education comparative magic the school nutrition department received notification of award for the fiscal year 2015 equipment assistant grants we received the following amounts that's in high school park from 2077 thousand nine hundred ninety seventy five for to serving my middle school 25,000 150 for a dishwasher Laurel Park Middle School 30,000 724 a walk-in freezer the total will not receive from the grant was 110 130 3860 75 butchered melon for meanness to 130 2861 is recommended that the school board approved an additional recreation of 130 2861 dollars and for the question or super classes so whole bunch of regional variation for the school nutrition quickly find out with the layin here the school nutrition programs solicited bids for the equipment to be purchased with the fiscal

year 2015 quipment assistant grants and we reserve the right to award the project separately or as one good award to the benefit of the department we received submissions from street vendors installation costs are outside of this bit it is recommended that the contract for the massive house serving learns project the awards food equipment of Virginia for the amount of 50 8903 dollars the contract from the field de Longueville dish machine project in order to Douglas equipment company in bluefield west virginia for the amount of seventeen thousand nine hundred and fifty nine dollars in the contract for the whole park walk-in freezer project be awarded two solo company of Martinsville Virginia for the amount of twenty 6441 dollars every chance good morning we're updating our computers in our elementary lads so we are requesting that we

see any funds we brought circle to you at the April meeting and we have circle at this meet as well or what we do is we create a year in list of one-time purchases and we prioritize those and we try to get as many of those done as we can any earring bonds so so the language is so important there because we hope to do all these things but any availability of lungs we may not be able to do all these but we do have them prioritize order so that we can do quickly and we're trying to back this up because we've done this kind of thing it's late June and that's too late so that's why you're seeing these in April and May waiting and you'll have several bit but one thing that we

clearly for one time things that we're trying to take care of not recurring costs trying to use one time savings at the end of the year to take care of these mr. talked about maybe 10 so we're asking the purchase 100 up to 100 laptops with 5th graders in our budget this year for us the stang will if you plan them we have added two grade levels least computers for for your technical 10 so each year we'll add another grade level shall we have all of those on the lease program which really works with our sustainability plan we're also requesting that we order the cases that we have for the lack house will vote for your check in magna vista and also the bags so requesting approval to order all of this hanging on by

Ralph W and funding for we will have to purchase the exact above FY the last number that i received was on ambien students for the freshman class and they were 20 75 and 80 for the sophomore class the young we had some enroll in back help a lot of that has been based on misinformation so the principal in there mr. Gibbs as well as the pinko tech director brain Tatum have been reaching out and individual students and families and they even serve all of the ninth grade students on a tour of warrior tag to let them see firsthand what it looks like going to talk to students and right after that trip several several applications came in so the students have to sell the program the adults can't sell the program it really has to

be the students and what may end up happening is we may not be a full capacity starting out but my gut tells me we will be after we started because same thing happened at where you take the worry take we were getting just at a hundred or slightly below and now for the first time there's a waiting list for the incoming freshman so kids as you know we have has interactive whiteboards for a number of years so those some of those need replacing plus we have any plans from teachers so we're recommending the school board approved the purchase of 44 flat panels and 10 active pounds depending on your in funding or FY 2017 budget and these will replace some of our own boards and also will be for the new grants and what we're

trying to do is encourage all all elementary and middle school teachers to do a grant so we're almost closed for every teacher in those in elementary middle to have a great have a ball which that we're encouraging them to go on this year and make sure that they write them so that's available so with this purchase and with the grants we will happen every elementary teacher and every little school teacher will have a board in the next year we'll start working on high school so rather than the boards now the active panel said have you guys seen one of those when you've been in the school's there there are a big panel but it don't have a projector so it last much much longer than the board pushing up with the shadow the teachers love

them the students love them so that cost a little bit more up front but in the long run it's much better for for the the cost we pay for them so we're approval for the 44 flat panels from chem core and the 10 from parathay our plan is may hear about it but we we have required teachers write a grant to give a smart board and that was a great process if teachers started with using smart Wars but now we have just a small number of elementary middle number teachers you still have not written grants to get a smart board we're at the point now where that should be the expectation that they should have a smart for that they use in their classroom at this point time high school numbers are much lower so

obviously you continue to work on increasing these at high school that elementary build we're at the point now where it is becoming problematic because when a teacher moves too room they want their smart work with them and work we don't need to be in the business that would be smart boards all over the school we really need to get to the point where that's the expectation so the reason we are Janet said very nicely encouraging teachers to write a grant I feel they need my brain to get this far forward because they may have not done that during the last several years and we're at a point now where we need to have that expectation it's not fair for students in one class with a smart board and another class without so we're at that

point will still work on the high school we're looking at other options at high school to I know someone high school teachers are getting appletv easy and other things but especially elementary/middle the students interact with that smart board on a databases so I just want to make sure that you were aware of that and the other thing that I'll point out is our facilities department is spending credible amount of time installing smart boards moving smart boards I wasn't fully aware of how much time they're sniffing then I spent time talking just some of them but this is going to significantly reduce their amount of time being bold new ones we buy more including installation having plates penn station I remember you saying at the school board meeting when they asked about technology one of the

people in the audience asked about scores test scores I had a vicious your talk to control high school is that curriculum is what guys test scores not the technology I guess I'm just wondering if you have any vegetable any way to measure you start or two classes and teachers are using them before the feathers or anything time for it straight levels technology or tell me one more in the high schools but we have any way of making a difference other than just like it I can tell you one my scenario that i was in school the other day and the students did their review for the wrestles on on keynote so once group was shown me he said before that I had paper paper paper but I can do all my review on keynote and

throw it right on the future smart boards and we all can see if we're all on the same page and if we have the same concept and if we understand the concepts so to me something like that means they are they are really utilize question answered working with technology for a long time and a lot of research of course with a complete 10 point the tides of the technology a lot of times they focus on stiff motivations to engagement because you can have poor teaching with it or without a county even the students have told me you know the greater ever leave in teaching than all the technology devices so so really we look at it as a support and the reason that I make statements like that is because people to come and visit

they're always looking for silver bullets to raise student achievement and they think if they buy iPads that make a difference in and it doesn't because you kind of have strong curriculum strong structural practices but they thing for me that the smart board is the students can project their work to audience they can practice presentation skills this year we have them through their stem projects all the on a path and the laptops trying to give them experiences that are more related to what they're going to experience the world of work so so for us it's been more of a way to make it relevant to use it as a tool and we feel that if you don't have a smart board you really can or some projection in your classroom the students don't have the opportunity

to present their work larger audience so and in a lower grace the interactions as well policing technology being used very low that's why we spend a lot of time investing in professional development samer model because sometimes teachers are the substitution love it just use it as a project overhead projector rather than near the end the redefinition level but it's a lot of professional development but the short answer it is when the art breast is high directly to technology there's so many other factors I want to say that's not the right question to ask anything about you get caught up in they have all this technology put so much damn thing we do is we do not necessarily I wish that were said some colleges provide more training for instance in our interactive force but usually

we try to take it on now hear his do an excellent job when we have new teachers they work with you school showing them what we have and how to use it appropriately and how the kids can use it to interaction with the students is pretty important so I'm just really working email from parent of the students staying the teacher which I think hired former students who knew how to use a smart board nobody the class including the professor you had music and she set up and was blowing away then he hit her that she had resources that other from across the state such a powerful email we receive the children's here in that prediction act is a federal law index by Congress polemic pornography me explicit content within your name and those who divisions

in the Commonwealth was maintain the current in the future in order to obtain feather or state funding a bit was issued for the air inlet filter with one vendor responding is recommended as a Bentley r12 born the lane for the purchase of I boss kung fu so that sounds pretty important thing one question only wouldn't be it one bit submitted sound like sole source whatever other it's a bit ly is over we will just received 11 company borderline singing the pig I guess we want one a requirement for year licensing and and most competent provide that before you think we provide free year I think this one a three- we gave us in order to negotiate at 14 year three so in other words the bid was within reason this is one of our year

in priority items but you can imagine it's on the top like this when they told us we need an internet filter we didn't listen all right but are trying to pretty exposing August so I want to have a new bit extra time to transition to the second the lease would feature for middle and high school left house experiment September 2015 however due to Elena the point of new laptops and time constraints the lease have to be extended for an additional four months it is recommended that the school board approve payment for the lease extension and damaged acid penguin make sure that you all understand what happened in the situation the young the teacher like maps directions each other types on what we did was we allow the teachers to take their laptops home over the

summer and we collected them in September the unfortunate thing that happened as a result of that is by giving them access to the laptops it caused us to to go over our lease agreements which is a problem so obviously we talked about how to resolve this problem you want to talk about our plans moving forward to it the problem that was ended with it was a delay on the new computers being delivered to us so we couldn't get them ready and and swapping with the old computers where for next next time with the end of this news we're gonna try to collect so we have someone to work repairing and prepared this these laptops just send it back within the teachers are going to be allowed to come in and pick them up there in

the summer is because the art and service we want our teacher to have access for their technology front of the summer and this one happens every three years or four years morning again as you know what our big focus has changed in our creating a new learning environment for our students in our schools and so part of our safe and ordered learning environment committee one of our task we looked at both the Middle's both eyes and what do we do differently with our common areas for those for those to school for those four schools so we work with a group called barriers incorporated at 1.i they created some drawings look at what type / mature they were fit into those areas and they also have an rfp that we can piggyback off though so we

were looking at some furniture that would work in these common areas steelcase furniture so we're thinking that would like to purchase furniture not to exceed four thousand dollars this year in funding from FY 16 operations budget which is recommended that we award this contractor barrows incorporated at Roanoke Virginia to purchase this collaboration platform for both middle for both high schools not to exceed forty thousand dollars to put this furniture in their spaces this is the brand name as a brand name of the furniture that we looked in I'm trying to such a good question trying to set an example of you uh let's say well out here in this commentary is out in this hallway you know there's some benches out here in the area network people need to sit and talk about something to

stay in place like in a college setting or starbucks typesetting if you will when you said at the cafe type tables and we're trying to create a new collaboration spaces for these students so that they can said if they need to talk about a project or what would have if you walk down the hallways of otherwise middles it's pretty plain walk-in down the sideways it's really know where form instead collaborated by a project and that's the whole idea by joining tube acid morning they're all employer said they're on floors that we're trying to create some cloud of spaces where teachers can utilize the spaces and students get glasses basic city work but just like mr. Scott said a second college be able to go to a college that's kind of the deal you had with

there's spaces where you can work study with that something like X crew rakesh outfield yes all this new stuff like that focuses pretty much going back late yes and I think I think you talk about one in chesterfield names like the career technical center hole and take lots of pictures that day but you're right in the hallway and the climbers spaces and it really is an inviting environment for creativity and collaboration we believe in those things we need to create the environments that will encourage them they have a lot of a peck road trip you call collaboratory medevac same company can you tell me about things take a little bit so right now I want to share with you the was solicited for destruction of Bengal tech at bassett high school with only one firm

spawn and Clark brothers from Stewart and with the construction price was over budget so of course Africa negotiations banging engineering with clark road we've done comes to a conclusion of a price of 1 1,000,000 293,000 $175 which includes an alternate number one which is the present faculty the rooftop package unit sets out on the ground outside behind this the nuvi for the new media center we go and we'll relocate that to the roof so the weekend in a future edition maybe some outdoor reading areas for that for that new tech for the new media center there so you see a bit of it some resource effective as we talked about before on we had about seven contractors show up for the pre-bid meeting but one was trying for and we also see the back to

be basically there's a quite big difference there in the price of this person warrior check but I asked them to keep in mind we're also capturing a phase of renovation with this pingel tech as well because we have some substantial mechanical work that has to be done with bingle tech and with us doing the media center weatherbeeta centers will be relocated at magna vista when we did word attackman mechanical work already done with a previous project so that's that's quite a big difference when you're looking at the prices on that and so it's recommended that we award this contract to Clark brothers for continue this would be well I see that especially today even things that we agrarian what we're seeing is dr. cotton mentioned when we talked about meadowview were seeing a huge change

in the market and it's like it's happened just in the past three or four months whether it's won't work higher prices but something has changed drastically in the market and it's not just affecting our county but that's done economy should we read an article there were affected a big project in Chesterfield it so you're seeing this a lot taking place on it and we came quite put a finger on why and what's changed I whether it's more work / or not enough individuals to get the work done or what's changed with it but we are saying you'd shame they're not only is it high cost running cost of parts of Virginia see prices like this there are other parts of the state but again they're seeing their costs go up as well and we did

some creative things with this bid we moved it back up week and we did some creative items try to entice some more better stuff to provide approximately but even he's spending the time on beaches that was a concern and even required brothers is there concern may not be finished before the school year starts y'all remember warriors ected open until a few example here started so they obviously need to plant have a plan B or a meeting space to start the youth share this morning these are the highlights from April April point 16 the person science is magic our fifth grade students were able to participate in the stem sciences magic show presented by magna vista high school this month students were able to create and shoot projects right hoverboard watch a magic show that showcased

in the lives of others the building process Andrew Mason library lab this month's focus is on design replace following the design component students may see new ideas unfolding as they begin the design build process at the end the time to reflect is essential comparing the design to the actual product that was created during the time of reflection students verbalize questions to redesign and rebuild and even more successful product and this is just an example of how our libraries are changing our media centers are doing lots of creative activities related to stem in others sensory spelling students a downward Smith elements are using shaving foam to practice spelling words a physical movement of boring letters in the phone provides students the fun ways for dispelling orders an opportunity to practice their fine and gross motor skills

a brief update maybe this nice one love you forever yes we are actually a crescendo kind of drawing out an hour maybe some information that was coming out of high sierra resort getting ready to on that but i would say if then we've got a presentation board as you'll see out there and taking it out there friday so if you get a chance drop by magna vista take a look it's kind of a preliminary look at what the outside of the bill is going to look like what mechanism has worked with as long as they're going to look at in addition for the weight room we're going to add on to the side of the building and now they're working we're raising some money to help with those costs on that we looked at one

of our architects me have under contract or any kind of has did a preliminary drawing all that and that's what's on the presentation board and it looks really nice you thank you thank you be pretty excited about the looks of this and i've also had a meeting with they've been using conrad night it's to work on their drawings and so I kind of discussion with him about thumbs liminary structural issues that we need to look at as they're preparing them all so moving forward taking some small steps foot so yeah I'm hope your be excited when you see they go they can sexual claim this is nothing they originally wanted to do a more temporary site building metal building with garage doors that they then they wanted to put right there on the side of

the building I told him that they certainly have that option but it's not gonna be where they want to put I'm going to be in front of the building in the back of the building or the other option was a more long-term option to add on to the building where they can help tribute to to that capital project and they have decided they liked the long-term option better but they also understand that that that won't happen as quickly with their glory so we're going to raise some money to help on this long term which a lot better way of doing things yes and then the board is something better to do this is our shares down the project it was step we need for they would feel free to start raising fine I think they're

at the point now they're already kind of done kind of looking at starting to raise the money preparing with maybe some ideas fundraiser thanks you know what we're at the first step out of this is a drawing strong taken care of so I know mr. we're waiting on a proposal for mr. Knight see if that if that's going to be a cost of what that caution light would be once we get these drawings prepared then we can kind of set out a plan you know they they got some volunteers that are willing to dig the footers if you will you know that that's great long as their license and there they have a contractor license an area and their their insurance is ok with them we're sort of work with them so it kind of

a piece at a time once we get that down we are moving forward to see I'll bring we may have a some destruction enmities comes up report board for approval but right now the first step is get the Tron's type of bsp a conference last week yes we have any parts that we want in SPS we did some really nice awards and i was able to bring one back for our digital school district surveys we've won this several times before we won third place this year we've won two first places to first place in past years and this is for the mid size of student population category and now a really nice and one and we appreciate it very much preserved actor sorry it's been so long since I've had in the room but it
