001Thank you. >> Which is just us commenting. >> Just us chit chatting, reading Thank you. You're playing It's like the loudest. I'm real upbeat. Everyone real morning. All right, it's 7. I'll call this meeting to order. Please rise for the pledge of >> allegiance. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Excuse me. Could you please sign in? Yes. >> Thank you. Mr. Ravenhorse, will you please take role? >> Mr. Welch is absent. All other members are present. >> Okay. Thank you. Is there any new business to bring before the board hearing? None. I would seek a motion for approval of the agenda. >> Second. >> I have a motion by
002Mr. Lman and a second by Mr. Gist. All those in favor signify by saying I. I >> I post same sign. >> Motion carries 6. Next item on the agenda is item six. Recognize the AAA award winners Audrey Burn and Lucas Nelson with Mr. Hughes. Come on up. Well, good evening everybody. Um, the Academic Arts and Athletic Award, commonly known as AAA, honors high school seniors throughout the state, uh, who have a 3.0 or higher grade point average and who participate in Minnesota State High School League sponsored athletic and arts activities. AAA award recipients are selected through a multilevel process involving member schools of the league and the league's administrative regions, a special committee of educators, business leaders, and members from the fine arts and athletic communities. It's my distinct pleasure to announce that Audrey
003Burn and Lucas Nelson have been selected as the Steuartville AAA award recipients. Audrey and Lucas's applications were moved to the region one double uh doubleA committee. Both applications made the final three for consideration to represent the region one doubleA at the state level. So congratulations to both Lucas and Andra. They're asking questions. Open it up to the board for questions for Luke or Audra. >> You guys want to share your after high school plans if you know them yet? >> Uh yeah, I'm planning to go to the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul uh for mechanical engineering. >> Wow. >> Um I'm not 100% committed, but my front runner right now is St. Olaf and I'm looking at either physical therapy or something finance related. Yeah. So, yeah. >> What are the activities you're
004involved in? >> Um, I'm in basketball, track, and then I did tennis this year, and then I'm in band. Um, some other extracurriculars. >> Yeah, I played soccer currently in basketball, play golf, and I also sing in choir, and I'm in a few other things as well. >> Any advice for underassmen and being involved? >> Try everything. >> Yeah, make time if you want it. For sure. You never You'll meet some of your best friends doing different activities and have a good time along the way. So, >> be involved. >> That's great. >> Any other questions from the board? >> We're proud to have you represent Steuartville. Thank you. Yes. I'm going to grab a photo because I know that Jen from the paper's going to want one. Are there moms or dads that want
005one? You can grab one, too. You're all going to stand together. There you go. Awesome. Thank you. >> Thank you for coming. You're welcome to leave or you're welcome to stay, whichever you prefer. >> Okay. >> Can we add? >> Oh, yes, of course. AGAIN. >> Have a good rest of your week. Next item on the agenda is item seven A through D. Is there any item any board member would like removed to discuss separately? >> Okay. Hearing none, I would seek a motion. >> So move. >> Second. >> I have a motion by Miss Keeper and a second by Miss Cook. All those in favor signify by saying I. I. Same sign. Motion carries 6. Next item on the agenda is item eight. Consider and if consider and adopt the resolution for donations and
006there was a few we had from the Stuartfield Booster Club a donation to girls u basketball for $925 for huddle and then the same donation for boys basketball of $925 for huddle. And then Eagle Rock Bank contributed $250 to Bearcave FIAD program. We appreciate the support of our communities for all of these donations. Yes, we do. Thank you. Is there any questions or discussion? Okay, I would seek a motion. >> Second. >> I have a motion by Mr. Lman and a second by Mr. Gist. This is a resolution. Miss Cook. >> I. >> Mr. Gist. Hi, >> Miss Kefir. >> Hi, >> Mr. Lman. >> Hi, >> Mr. Ravenhor. >> Hi, >> and I for myself. Resolution carries 6 with one member absent. Next item on the agenda is to consider and approve Miss Berser's
007extended state field trip for BPA to go to Minneapolis March 5th through the 7th. And this is a pretty um normal annual trip that they take up there for state. Um, that's why Miss Bester didn't have to come to present tonight because it's normally an annual trip if they make it. Is there any questions or discussion? Okay. Hearing none, I would seek a motion. >> So move. >> Second. >> I have a motion by Mr. G and a second by Miss Keeper. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Both same sign. Motion carries 6. And as always, we wish them good luck. Next item is AIM 10 or AIM1 high student achievement the principal and director updates which were attached this afternoon. So if you didn't get have a chance to read
008them I um hope you do read them and if you have any questions please reach out. Is there any discussion? Okay I'll move on. Um item 11 we don't have anything so we'll go to 12. Aim three, effective and efficient operations. And we have the diamond club here from softball and baseball with Tony Lurman, Jason Post, Eddie Fricker, Amy, I'm sorry, I don't Is it Mau? Yeah, >> and Mark Schmidz. You come on up with their proposal. >> Or just Mar Schmidz, come on up. Well, uh, thank you again for taking time to, uh, to hear from us. I know we met a couple of weeks ago with the, uh, finance committee, and we really appreciate, um, taking time to hear the information that, uh, that we are putting forth. I know I do have
009a few hard copies if need be, but I believe that it was all emailed. >> No, it wasn't emailed. Um, but if you have hard copies, >> I do have a few hard copies. The only one that wasn't here was >> The only two of us that haven't heard from you are myself and Miss Cook. >> Everyone else has already heard. >> Yep. >> So um so we have the information there on our uh request um from the uh from the district to the u baseball softball uh diamond club. Um a mission statement is listed there. Um, and none of that has changed. Obviously, what we want to do is make the parks uh safer uh environment um while uh while the fans are there, while the viewers are there. We've had some issues in
010the past with u and if Mr. Hughes were to stay, he had he has gotten letters from uh opposing uh districts from umpires uh getting hit or nearly getting hit while while they're down here. I think there's even a count. We had one of our a couple of our moms one time that when games are going on on all of the fields, no no fewer than 27 heads up uh were being um blurted out while uh while the fields were were in use and while the beams were were going on. So our rationale then is that we would like to make them safer and improve the quality of the of the facilities down at the baseball softball complex. Uh other information and other rationale are listed there in letter E. In addition, upgrades have been
011made to the uh high school gymnasium. Uh boys and girls for their use there, football and track. and we would just like to have you know something um that the baseball and facilities could use as well. We do have other rationale in the past again since we are and again uh if Mr. Hughes wouldn't have been able to stay by then he would have been able to chime in here as well. But we are playing a big nine schedule right now. Essentially we are playing teams uh at Mayo JM um Winona Elbert Lee Austin and all of their facilities are big nine facilities when you go there. And so we're looking to upgrade our facility to be uh something that looks like that. So, not just safer but also um a little bit more prominent
012uh as well. And then we are also hosting games that are listed there. Um and then and those are shown. There is a timeline of what we have done up to this point >> and what we are looking at and then the phase two that we are you know in the ask for is um well I guess we should mention uh phase one first. The Diamond Club themselves put forth uh $60,000 of their own money to put up uh two new batting cages to move them away from the field of play to make it more safe. Uh we did that last summer, last fall. And now phase two, the ask is um to move uh and get re remove the back stops and put in new back stops that are going to be uh taller,
013safer, more viewer friendly um and something that we would see um lasting for quite some time down the down the road. Here is our uh campaign that we are going to put forth with the uh monies that we would get from the school. Um and then we would also go out and ask um businesses and individuals in the community to um offset the cost of the uh project aside from whatever the um school district could uh could provide. I don't know if I'm seeing anything. >> Is there anything you're covering it? >> Does anyone from the board have any questions? >> So, Diamond Club, I just want to clarify did come and present to the board finance committee and the board facilities committee and they asked quite a few questions and had those clarified at
014that meeting. Um, that was right before our last board meeting. Um, I would ask Dan to just review the funding stream so that everybody understands this would not whatever the district decides to contribute to the project would not come out of operations. So operations are wages, benefits, supplies. This would come out of our capital money. And maybe Dan, you want to just go over so that we don't have any confusion on that we're spending money out of our fund one because we would not be. So >> yeah. So the intent is to use our operating capital to help offset some of the costs here in the in the project um with an allocation of $150,000 towards the phase two if you will of this project which is the back stops. Um and then ultimately the
015diamond club would cover the other portion which is obviously going to be part of their their donation piece or their campaign here as well. Um so what we would do within our within our operating capital budget like we do on an annual basis is we allocate things um that are coming up in that year. We also look at any potential future things that we know of at that point in time and try to try to put a plan together to be able to address those things as we go. So um this is something that at this point in time that I feel like we can allocate that amount towards it. um based on next year's uh operating capital situation and uh you know depending on how how things go as far as the fundraising campaign
016and that type of stuff will kind of I think that'll probably drive more so when this takes place versus anything else. Um which ultimately I assume this is either kicked off or will be kicked off very soon. Um, so we're also, for those of you that weren't there, looking at a mid August, late August start date, get this completed by the time, >> hopefully by the time the snow flies. >> Um, >> so one more season potentially with the old back stop. So, >> so continue with the spring season and then through the summer with the whole thing going on there as is versus try to navigate how we would deal with schedules, right? >> Um, and and just have it become more of a fall project. >> Makes sense. Okay. Are there any other
017questions? >> What's the contingency if the diamond club does not raise enough funds? >> Uh so if if they do not then we would have to have a conversation on how we move forward with that if that is a wait an additional year type of situation. Um something like that would be the conversation. So, I kind of feel like that should be something we talk about now. >> Yeah. If if you have any club has any thoughts on >> I guess the the question really would be the campaign. How long do you expect to potentially know whether it's realistically able to do or not. Um, and part of that's probably on the timeline of how quickly do you we need to make decisions and place orders to get the stuff here to be able to
018do things on time. So, >> I don't know if you have any types of answers on that. >> Cody or Jason want to address that at all as far as the materials or the uh or the labor of the materials and I can >> um >> Well, I don't think that was the question. I think it was if you couldn't raise enough funds. >> Yeah. So for like we'd have to place the order to get it by the startup of like late August, early September. We'd have to place the order for materials by June. >> Oh, okay. >> It takes about that long for them to, you know, design it, build all the poles, all that stuff. So we'd have to know by then. >> Um and if we can't, then we wouldn't be able
019to do it this year. >> Sure. >> So we have kind of that, >> you know, >> six months. >> Yeah. maybe somewhere in that time frame to see where we're at >> and maybe maybe by >> and and from a financial perspective I I would say you know we're we're looking at you know three three different opportunities from the diamond club's perspective um one as Mark mentioned we we did already um uh pay the $60,000 for the batting cages as kind of a first effort here on the project and the diamond club is is ready willing and able to to front up part of this as well as part of that. I wish we could do the whole thing, but uh unfortunately we can't do that. Um but Diamond Club will put forth some
020of that and then we would look for individual sponsors and we would also look for bigger sponsors as well. So within the next uh obviously we would need to have that determination in the next couple of months where we feel like we're going to be uh then to know if we're going to be able to do that this year or if we would need to push it out a little bit further. So, the ask is for the board to approve $150,000 out of operating capital. Um, that would be the district's contribution towards the project. If the Diamond Club is not able to get the remaining funding, then we would have to come back to the board and have another conversation or the project would have timeline would have to be revised. >> Okay? >> Like
021if we only approve 150,000, that's all we can that's all we can contribute. So, >> well, just so anybody else listening out there, why didn't this go through? We have funding shortfall. >> And just to be clear, this is not operations funding. This is uh funding that is used solely for capital projects, >> right? >> And so, this is the kind of project that that funding is set aside for. That's what we receive it for. And so, there's no there should be no confusion that we're taking money out of classrooms to do this, >> right? And just because it's a capital project doesn't mean that frees up money or or adds money to another bucket. It's >> correct. >> Unaffiliated. >> Can you remind me of the age of those facilities? I know we talked
022about it in >> 2000. Right. Yeah. So 26 years. >> 2000. >> I was just >> That was the last time anything was done with the >> facility itself, the plane. I know we talked about it at the at the special meeting, but I just wanted to >> those at home. >> Yeah. Well, and I thought it was quite a while. I just couldn't remember exactly how how long they needed. >> Yeah. >> They've served a they've had a long run and and as Mark said, you know, not only are the foul balls coming up and over, but the the bottom of the fences are now pulling up as well. So, we lose foul balls that way, too, you know, running out of the out of the fields. So, they've uh they've served their purpose
023and now we're hoping that we can uh you know replace those and it would be really great. >> What's your fundraising money dollar goal? >> What number? >> I think we would need to be at >> 177. >> Yeah. 17 177,000. >> And then your sponsorships, what are you envisioning there? in terms of how much we're expecting or what or what will the sponsorships be? >> Yeah. I mean, what are you envisioning? I mean, if you get a big dollar sponsor, insert your dollar amount here. What are you envisioning that being? >> Aside from the big the big donors, the big >> Well, are you are what are you to recognize the sponsor? Say you get Jimmy's to Okay. Donate $10,000. >> Yes. Yes. If you've been down to the complex the last time uh
024the sand lot was built, we have three boards that were, you know, if you if you donated $250, then your name was on this board. If you donated $1,000, your name was on this board and it went down down the road. We would have other structures that would be put out to to recognize those donors as well as a program um a baseball softball program get their um ad if you would say yeah in that in that program as well. Okay. That's what we're doing right now until next year when we come back and build the um >> the press box and which will have the game stream >> and phase three and four uh they will be having uh their advertise advertisements on the streaming just like the football and basketball. >> Sure. That's
025>> we can get phase two done. We would be thrilled the bridge the other bridges when we get there. >> Okay. Are there any other questions or discussion from the board? >> Just it was it was the recommendation of the finance and facility committees to >> approve this. We had met last week or week and a half ago. >> Sounds great. Thank you. I'd like to acknowledge the partnership that the district has had with the Diamond Club. um their intentions and purpose are solely what we need to ensure that the program stays vital and that we're providing opportunities for our students to be involved in this program. So, um really appreciate the collaboration that we have and the intentionality of the diamond club to keep it strong. >> Thank you. We would echo the same
026with our partnership with the school. So, thank you. >> Great. >> All right. Well, I would uh seek a motion. >> So move. >> Second. >> I have a motion by Miss Cook and a second by Mr. G. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Both same sign. >> Motion carries. 6. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome to >> your group wants to leave or you can stay. student information system. >> Get Mark the cliff notes. >> Thank you. >> You'll get updated that you're next. You don't know Mark Skyward. That's what we're talking about. >> Thank you. >> Next item on the agenda is 12B. Consider and approve the infinite campus quote. And Mr. Conger is here. >> Good evening. Mr. Conger, you just tell me when you want
027me to advance and I will do it that way. >> Oh, perfect. Yeah. Um, yeah. So, as Mr. Schmidz was just kind of talking there. No more Skyward. Uh, that's why we're here tonight. Um, Skyward, what we use, I'm sure most of you are familiar with Skyward for checking grades and all that fun stuff. Um, we've had it for over 30 plus years in the district. And the version that we're running, this SMS 2.0 is going end of life December of 2028. So before then, all the districts that were running this had to make a decision at some point on where they were going to go, what they were going to use prior to December of 2028. Um, so a little thing we uh we started off by sending out Mrs. Selfer sent out an
028email or I should say an email with a form um to all staff asking them, you know, what they like from Skyward, what they don't like, you know, what could be improved, if they've used any other different um SIS's prior to maybe working in Stewartville. um if they had any other input, if they wanted to be a part of a you know a team at a presentation at at a certain time. So we took all that data uh we created an RFP and we sent that out to the five approved vendors um through the Minnesota Department of Ed. We received all five of them then uh submitted. Um Dan and I then went through those and narrowed down the top three. We brought them forward and we had presentations on January 26th. Um we did
029that day as a it was a PLC day for the teachers. So it kind of allowed everybody to have a little bit of time. We started them at 10:00 in the morning. We had three pre uh these three presented. Infinite Campus, Edupoint, Synergy is what their products called and then Skyward and their new product called Cumulative. Um during this time um I I reached out to using the feedback that we gathered. I reached out to all the staff members that were going to that said that they would want to be a part of this committee to see if they would be available on the 26th. The ones that said they would be available then submitted questions that I then forwarded on to these three so that they had them prior to presenting so that they're
030kind of aware of what they were going to do. Uh the presentations lasted about an hour and a half, hour and 45 minutes. Um during that presentation they would demonstrate what they could do. Um and then they answered a lot of the questions that we had submitted to them. Um after each one there was a rubric that we created. Um each person on the panel filled out that rubric of what they thought of each kind of category that we had and then I kind of tallied those up and uh unanimously the decision was to go with infinite campus. Um, I think one of the biggest things that kind of pushed every and these are the the staff that participated in that uh on that day on January 26th during those three presentations. Um, I think
031the biggest thing with Infinite Campus is we kind of wanted, you know, something that's simple, not only for staff and students, but especially the parents. Um, and something that you could do mostly everything under one kind of umbrella. um they have a great app because everyone, you know, instead of going to um their laptops or anything, everybody's trying to do things from either an iPad or a phone. Um so it it'll be really beneficial. I'm not not sure if you've tried to do Skyward on your phone as it is current and it's not real easy. But when you see this product, it's it's pretty simple. It's slick. Like I said, everything's under one umbrella. So you don't have to jump to another web page and then log in there to say pay fees or any
032of that stuff. It's all done under Infinite Campus, which I thought was a big thing. >> Um, these are some, and this is also another thing. These are the districts that are currently with Infinite Campus or are in the process of kind of doing what we're doing. Um, a lot of the districts around here that are our size have used Infinite Campus, as you can tell. Byron since 09, Cassin since 2010. Pine Island is in the implementation process right now. Cannon Falls. Um, and then, oh, I was looking Mr. Johnson out in Garrison also uses Infinite Campus. So, I did a little research there and looked at that. So, he he is a part of this. Um, I do believe that this slide is not updated, but with us hopefully getting approved tonight, I think
033they're going to be over 200 now within the state of Minnesota. A lot of school districts, okay, >> from what I've been told that have to make this switch are switching to Infinite Campus and they are located in Blaine, Minnesota. >> So, it's just right up the road. Um, so that's another plus is um a couple of things. So with Infinite Campus and just like with Skyward, right, it's kind of a vault of information for staff, students, you know, addresses, transcripts, all that stuff. And with Skyward, we also had there's called add-ons, right? So you need So these are some of the add-ons that we would have to add with Infinite Campus, the food service add-on. Um Messenger with voice, which we now call Skyler. Um but this would be all, yeah, like I said,
034all under infinite campus. So, Messenger with voice online registration for anyone wanting to register in the district. Messenger, I should go back. That would be for like when Mrs. Selfer sends out her messages of no school and all that stuff. So, that's what that one that add-on would be. Uh, payments is what we're kind of talking about for, you know, class dues, fees. Um, this will also include registration. So, we're looking at maybe even allowing like students to register for activities within Infinite Campus. Um the learning suite uh that the biggest thing with that is that allows our staff to sync their grades from either you know Google classroom out at fourth grade or schooly those are that that allows that syncage the syncing of the grades um for the teachers and then the workflow
035suite is more of an attendance um it says workflow but it's more of an attendance thing. So, if your kid misses uh if your student misses, you know, an hour and you get that phone call notifying you that your child was gone, you know, first hour, second hour, that's the workflow suite. And also with that is there's a hallway pass in there that um Mrs. Morlock and was looking at and that's kind of cool because that allows the kids to if they need to go to the restroom or go out the hallway, they can uh request that and then the teacher in that classroom would get that request and they can approve it. But the teacher would also be notified that if uh if Aaron was going in the hallway and Troy was in already
036in the hallway and those two shouldn't be in the hallway at the same time. It won't allow Aaron to check out into the hallway because Troy's in there. So >> I'm a problem. >> So yeah. So we're going to add those those uh one two three those six add-ons um would be a part of it on top of what the the system does. So here's the private thing you guys want to know about the cost. Uh so with the the first initial year with the setup, the migration um training all the implementation that first year will be roughly that amount um and then every year re recurring after that drops down to this um that amount there which is what we are paying pretty much right now with Skyward and all the add-ons we have.
037Um, >> so it's very comparable. >> Very comparable. >> Okay. >> In fact, I was telling Dan, I think this after the first year >> will save us. >> Saves us a little bit. >> Great. >> So, um, so yeah, that's those totals. And then the last thing would be the implementation timeline. So hopefully once we get approved today, we'll get that contract signed. um starting then July 1st of this year they will start gathering information about the district starting to look at our data we'll need to probably sort of sort of make a team up of different areas teachers u counselors admin assistants so that any of those questions that they'll have for them that those they can answer those um and then throughout the year they'll start then migrating that data over they're
038going to migrate as I mentioned like 30 plus years of Skyward data they're going to be able to migrate about 15 years of that. Um the other two were going to say like I think it was like 10 and then they were going to charge us for anything additional. That doesn't mean that the data that is with Skyward were currently the other 15 years or so that'll still be there. If you ever needed that data from however long ago, but they will migrate 15 years over into Infinite Campus. So if you graduated within the last 15 years, all of your information will get migrated over. Um they'll do that throughout 2027 or 2026 into 2027 and then our goal live date for this will be July 1st of 2027. So we will run with Skyward
039next year. Infinite Campus will be working in the background and then July 1st of 27 we will be done with Skyward and go directly to Infinite Campus. Um we do have a planned day already uh to July or June 3rd of 2027. We're going to do an inservice day. If the campus will come down, they will have enough uh people that they will be able to tailor that to, you know, the different staff. And then closer to the go live date, we'll send out communication and stuff for parents and students so that they're able to start to access. And that's it. If you have any questions, >> so the calendar committee did know that this was likely going to happen. And so the calendar for 2627 includes that staff training date. >> Okay, great. >>
040Does anyone have any questions? >> I've used a few different student information systems with the districts that I've worked with and by far the best one to use. So I'm excited to cover that change. It's really easy to use and the app is great. Um so I think it'll be a really good change. which is good because my kids had to teach me how to use Skyward. It just is everywhere. But anyway, >> good to hear. >> Everywhere. >> Good to hear. And I'm glad that it was unanimous with the staff, too. So, that should make a good transition. >> Yeah, I think it's going to help. Like I mentioned that there's some districts around here that our staff communicates with. So if they do have questions, they are able to use those resources >>
041and that it's um local to Minnesota too. That's nice. >> Yes. Especially for the state reporting that >> will do all them. >> I want to acknowledge Joe. This has been a ton of work for him to get this pulled all together and to um get the RFP done. Dan provided a lot of support. Um, but Joe, as you know, our technology director, this fell on his plate and he's just done a great job of helping us navigate this whole process and get us to this point. So, thank you. >> Yes. Thank you. >> Are there any other questions or discussion? All right, I would seek a motion. >> Second. >> I have a motion by Miss Keeper and a second by Mr. G. All those in favor signify by saying I. I oppose. Same
042sign. Motion car 360. All right, let's get to work. Appreciate it. >> Thank you for coming. >> You bet. >> Next item on the agenda is 12C. Consider and approve the revised fiscal year 26 budget with Mr. Sharter. >> All right. Good evening. So what we'll do is we'll go through the initial presentation that I have and then we will look at the revised budget summary onepage sheet too and touch base on that. Um and then we'll answer any questions that you may have. So all right um so our general fund overview this is the largest operating fund um within the district revenues are just under 27 million expenditures uh this in FY26 are just over 28 million that leaves us with a net change a negative of 1.386 million and I'll kind of explain
043a little more detail on that um obviously a deficit of 1.3 million initially Just looking at it can be a little bit overwhelming, but there's a whole lot of things that took place in there that uh had to do with some of our restricted accounts where we had built balances, did projects ultimately now that's leading to that. So, it's not it's not exactly uh as devastating as it may look at that point in time. So, um general fund unassigned balance. So, this is the one that we pay the most attention to. Um it houses the the vast majority of our revenue and our expenditures. We had a beginning balance there to start the year of 2,831,95 and our projected ending balance is $2,565,642. So a current deficit right now of 266,263. That would mean that
044our unassigned fund balance uh percentage would go from 10.5% to just over 9%. um in this current situation. Some of the things uh driving that $266,000 deficit. So on the revenue side, some changes that took place. Um basic formula aid which is the largest piece of funding we get from the state. All tied to student enrollment. The enrollment I have revised that our preliminary enrollment was 1941 is the number we used and the revises at 1927. So we continue to see a decrease in our enrollment numbers which are obviously impacting our revenues uh going forward. So um just a little piece on the enrollment too. So looking back at the 1920 school year which would have been right as we were just entering wonderful COVID times we ended that year at 2,152 students. um next
045year or this year's senior class is a relatively large one and next year's kindergarten if it comes in where we're typically seeing them now in that 130 range we can expect somewhere in the 30 to 40 kid drop again next year which will put us probably at or under 1,900 kids. So in a matter of about six years we would see a decrease of 250 students which on the revenue side is a lot of revenue. Um so that kind of helps put things in perspective a little bit um on the special ed aid. So we do have an increase there of about 50,000 in revenue on on the special ed side. Um typically that revenue increase also means we likely had expenditure increases in the special ed side. um as those go up every year
046that does generate a little more revenue. Um and we'll talk I think you might me talk about that a little bit later on in your update so I won't touch base on special ed revenue going forward quite yet. Um and then we also applied for the cyber security grant this year and we're awarded $60,000. Um, so that'll help offset um basically one year's worth of our Arctic Wolf um cyber security um insurance premiums. Uh, unfortunately at this point right now, that's that's likely a a one-time funding type situation, but um we're certainly going to accept that. Um, if they do have anything going forward, we'll do the same, but we'll try to apply for it again as well. Um, okay. So moving on then under the general fund uh some of the expenditure changes that
047took place uh the biggest things so under salaries we had an increase there of 123,000 from the original budget. A lot of that has to do with our paras moving from our TOC contracted piece um which we have quite a few now who have transitioned away from that and now we're back to being district employees. Um and then we also have uh student custodial. So, we've had an increase in that a little bit as far as providing those opportunities not only during the summer now, but also throughout the school year as as our custodial maintenance um needs are there, but trying to um fill those positions and that type of stuff has been difficult. So, we are utilizing some students to be able to help in that area. Uh benefits a decrease there of 50,000.
048So, one of the increases we had obviously was the Minnesota paid family medical leave. So that added about $53,000 to the district's side. Um on that expense, health insurance, we do have a decrease of 108,000 based on now the number of people who have either gone off our insurance um or made other choices in that area. And then deferred comp, we initially budget anybody who's eligible for that up to the max amount that they would that the district would match. And then in the revised budget, we make us make the adjustments based on where we are at actual in actual dollars amount at this point. So we did see a decrease there of 38,000. Uh under purchase services, an increase of 160,000. A large portion of that was in the area of staff development and
049some of the contracting pieces that we're currently doing right now. Also a larger increase in property insurance than I expected. Um we're we were at in the prior year 200,000, we're now at 233,000 as far as total property insurance goes. And then we've had a sizable amount of repairs also um over the course of this year beyond what we would have expected. Um so hopefully those uh those start to taper off. Um and then equipment, we have an increase of 395,000 there. Uh most of this is all um capital related or LTFM related. Uh purchased maintenance vehicles. So we replaced the truck um which I think the current one was it was a 200 >> it was on the list for a long time eight something but yeah we kept kicking that can down the
050road. >> Um so we took care of that. Um and then we did the ticket booth. uh the bleachers, which were also gym bleachers uh in the high school gym and then also bleachers outside um once we had the track football complex done there. And then we also updated our video um camera system. Um did an upgrade there through custom alarm um which was a number of camera upgrades and then also some of the ability in which we were able to access footage and that type of stuff. um which allows us now to do it remotely via phone real time type situations that are now able to happen um based on that up upgrade under the restricted programs. So under LTFM we have a deficit that we spent there of 535,939. Most of that's uh
051related to the football track project and I'll talk a little bit more about that when we look at the summary. Um, and then safe schools, we we're spending uh $92,763 out of that. Most of that's that video surveillance upgrade that I just talked about. Basic skills. This is our compensatory um which Miss Sers will go into that in a little more detail too on what the future holds for that type of revenue. Um, but we're spending a deficit spending there of 57,349. we do have a sizable balance to be able to pull from there um currently. So that um that's going to help offset some of our unassigned costs. And then medical assistance, we continue to generate a sizable amount of revenue on the MA side of things with the MA billing process. An increase
052there of 133,000. So that will help be able to use some of that to help offset mostly special ed type costs can go towards that. um we just have to be careful on maintenance of effort type situations. Uh but I won't get into the details of all of that. Um and then operating capital uh a deficit spend there of 283,000 and I talked about a lot of that. We also did order Chromebooks. So, one of the things there is, um, with Joe and I, we we have a plan as to how the roll out of all that type of stuff and and changing of those out and replacing and we have kind of a plan in place. Um, but we purchased these a few months earlier than we would have. They were typically going to
053be in next year's. Um, but there was a situation where the price was going to increase. >> So, we decided, well, we're going to purchase them in a couple months anyways. So, we went ahead and placed the order. Now, also making sure we locked in the supply too that we needed um because they've been having some some concerns about the potential shortages in that area as well. Um fund two food service, our revenues uh just under 1.3 million, expenditures uh just under 1.2 million. So, our projected ending balance is just over $1 million. a net change there of an increase of $93,025. So, food service continues to be um an area in which we see our ending balance grow. Um and I get a nasty gram from MDE every year because our balance is too
054high. So, they want us to spend it down. Um basically, I just have to explain what we're planning to do in the future and that's enough to suffice at this time. So there's a there's some things going on here. We're we're pulling like cafeteria tables and everything out of there that we couldn't do before. We used to have to take those out of capital. We've done that essentially. I believe we've got all of them. Like every building now is >> updated. So purchasing cafeteria tables is no longer happening. Um also a number of our kitchens have newer equipment, that type of stuff. So we've been able to do all that while still maintaining this pretty sizable balance. So now the intent is we don't know what's going to happen with this building, but that's what
055I'm using as my means to to say that we're building a balance for the potential usage of this to help us at some of the costs if we were to need to do anything with a kitchen type remodel, renovation, whatever it might be. Um, but that that situation obviously is unknown at this point in time. Um, but that's what I'm using as my justification going forward. uh community ed. So overall community ed revenues 1,575,000 expenditures 1,512,000 and that change there a positive $63,000 increase at the end of the year. Um and on the right side here you can see our community projected ending balance. So that would that's 200,651. That's the area that houses tiger time. Our uh our classes that are offered those types of things. That's also the area that was negative. Not
056looking good when we went through COVID type situation. We have come out the other side now and things are looking looking really good in that area. ECF projected ending balance 243,000 and then our problem area within KED right now is school readiness projected deficit there of 174,000. So what'll happen is some of the ECF type of stuff will be able to offset the SR or the skill readiness pieces will play that game of moving those things around a little bit to help make this look better. But this is what it would look like if we didn't do anything like that. So I'm not too concerned about community ed as much as I was in the past. the main one has kind of turned the corner and as long as we stay consistent with what we're
057doing, we should be able to continue to turn a positive balance in that area. Uh debt service revenues of 2.78 million, expenditures of 2.76. So our projected any balance there is 614,000 uh net increase of 27,000 and we'll be in a position to be able to pay our principal interest on our bonded debt. And then our oped trust uh beginning balance. So we have to report this liability as a negative negative amount and we've done this for a couple years now. So we have a negative balance of 2.14 million. Our ending balance is just over 2 million. So, a net change there of about $94,000 increase. Um, so this again is the the trust that we have set aside to be able to pay our retirey health insurance premiums u for those that qualify for
058that piece. Uh, some of the key takeaways that I want to talk about, uh, general fund unassigned deficit still remains a concern, which it is seemingly every year. Um, and we cons continue to make necessary adjustments and that type of stuff to try to help keep that at a level above the 8%. Um, I want to look at making sure we try to build the fund balances back for LTFM and safe schools now that we've kind of built them to the projects we intended to and now we see them drop completely back down to be able to build those back up again while still being able to maintain the current things that we have in place in that area. uh food service remains profitable. We are going to do an RFP starting in about the
059next week to two weeks um to go out for a food service vendor. So we're not it isn't because we're in a position where we dislike what we currently have. Um, but last spring, if you'll recall, maybe you don't know, but we got a letter from our current vendor basically saying based on the amount that they were currently losing, they were not going to be able to continue to contract with us. So, based on that information, we had them got them to agree to stay on one more year as long as I assured we would RFP this and allow for new proposals to come in. So, um, we did that. Um, our, you know, as I said, our intent is not necessarily that we aren't okay with what we currently have, but it's going to
060be a process of going out and we may have somebody who decides that they can do this and they'll submit a bid that's lower and we end up making a change. But, um, we'll see how that process. That's something I'm calling you as a board here. Um, I would assume probably around the late April, maybe even May time frame so that they can be approved and and put in place with enough time if we do make a change in vendor to give them an opportunity to get in and get settled and everything rolling by the time July rolls around. >> So, if I remember correctly with that, because that was when we switched from Sedexo to Taher, it wasn't because we were unhappy with Sedexo, it's because we have to go with the lowest bit.
061Uh well, not necessarily. Um so lowest bid, no there is a there is a uh a rubric, if you will, that it's a point scale, >> okay, >> that gets put together, goes out within the RFP. So it takes into account lowest price is obviously the highest amount of points. Um but then you've got things like um experience, who they're going to put in there as far as your food service director, what that's going to look like. Is that somebody who's brand new with no experience or are they going to have somebody with 10 years of experience come in? Um there's multiple different factors that add up to that and and make that 100 point scale. So that's what we look at is we put that together and then whoever has the most points out
062of the hundred is ultimately the one that we would recommend to award. So it doesn't have to be the lowest, but in most cases it is. I think our last one, Taher, wasn't the lowest price. They're very close. So, the points didn't really change a whole lot for the price part, but then they made up for it on the other pieces. >> Sure. >> And that pushed them a little bit ahead of >> of who we currently had. So, um that's the same thing we'll do again. >> Okay. >> And most of that process is pretty highly regulated by the state or >> so. So, we don't have a lot of say like the RFP, >> they they have the template. I have to fill it out and then I have to send it to
063them for approval before I even let it go out to anybody. And then there's of course approved vendors on the list that can bid on it. So they have that all selected already to those types of things. So it's it's not a necessarily a process that I have a whole lot of say in trying to sway one way or another which is which I'm okay with. So >> okay. um community fund overall positive and then um continued long-term planning is needed to restore unassigned fund balance um to target levels. So any questions on any of that before we look at the next document? >> This one was not attached to the agenda. We'll get it attached tomorrow, but um Dan will walk through this so you understand what's on there. >> So, this just summarizes
064a lot, excuse me, a lot of what I had in the in the presentation. So, on the unassigned balance here, you can see the the decrease right now that we're expecting of the 266,000 in there. That puts us at just over 9% total fund balance. Um and then our restricted accounts um through here you can see operating capital a sizable spend down in that area but still leaving us with about 500,000 which is typically where I try to target every year is to try to maintain a balance in that area. Um so with with the potential of the um baseball softball type situation, the solar project piece, those two pieces are big pieces for next year potentially. So there may be um this may dip a little bit or we're just going to ultimately have
065lesser things that we can do within that within that one year. Um and then we've got down here. So LTFM right now I do have that as a deficit of 430,000 after all things are said and done. Um so LTFM can run negative. Um I prefer it not. Um, but what we'll do then is we need to put together a plan to make sure that the revenue that's coming in, which right now we generate about 436,000 that we have a portion of that that's going towards making sure that this thing comes back out. Um, and then the remaining amount we'll use for those types of projects that we know have to happen. And there are certain things within the LTFM, the health and safety stuff that we absolutely have to do every year, inspections, um,
066testing, those types of things. So, we can't get away from not doing those. Um, but some of the larger things, hopefully we don't have any like pipes breaking >> or things like that that ultimately add thousands of dollars to our our problem at that point in time. Um, I think that's those are the really the big ticket ones within the restricted piece. So, uh then also our signs. So part of the 1.386 million that we were negative is including these expenditures coming out on a sign going up here which equates to almost 600,000 of that 1.3. So um like I said it this seems worse but when you factor in those it's not nearly as bad and then the the LTFM and the capital are making up another huge portion of the >> of that
067amount. So um then the rest are the fund twos leaving that balance at just over a million. Our fund four which we talked about um let's see debt service. Yeah. And then OP. So any questions on that? >> It's not nearly as pretty as all your graphics in your presentation. >> Someone had a comment. >> Yes. >> I tried to improve. Will would have you did good. Does anyone have any questions? >> The key point is that 266,000 correct >> and when we our initial projected preliminary budget was 135 deficits. So if I factor in losing 14 kids of enrollment alone, that that right there >> pretty much doubled it. So, um, if that hadn't happened, we would be probably sitting right at where we thought we were going to be as far as our
068budget goes. >> What about for 26 27? >> So, we'll talk about that when we get to her update and we'll kind of piggy back off of that stuff as we have that conversation. >> All right. Okay. Thank you. But before we um have the motion for approval of the revised budget, I want to thank Dan for his attention to detail um and his efforts that he invests in regard to time and effort to ensuring that we are true and accurate to our financial standing. Um although he works for a vendored service um and has multiple school districts, we tend to feel Stuart know like he works for us all and I know that he provides the same service to all the other school districts that he he works with. But um he just is
069really intentional about making sure that we know where we are and what we need to do next. So thank you to Dan. >> Yeah, thank you Dan. Is there any other questions or discussion? >> Okay, I would see a motion. So move second. >> I have a motion by Mr. G and a second by Miss Cook. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Both same sign. >> Motion carries 6. Last item under 12 is 12D. Review and discuss the budget alignment time timeline. So, when we met at our last meeting in early February, I did not have the dates filled in, but we've had an opportunity to visit with the district leadership team and Dan and I put our heads together to put this timeline in place and it is revised from
070what I had suggested originally. Um, this date at the bottom was April 27th, but we are working to ensure that we have things wrapped up by April 13th. So, I just want to walk through this and make sure that the board understands where we are. Um, we are at February 23rd. You have considered and approved the revised budget. March 2nd, Dan and I will be looking to look at the targets for uh accounting for the losses that we have for this year and the margins that we have for next year. March 9th, we'll have the whole BIS uh district leadership team together to do budget forecasting to recognize what those alignments targets are and then the preliminary alignments of positions and programs. On March 12th, the staff of positions that are aligned with enrollment projections
071needs to be reviewed. And then on the 23rd, we'll have a district leadership team again doing a budget workshop and reviewing the final recommendations. On April 7th, the D principal PLC will finalize those alignments. On April 8th, we'll hold those individual staff meetings um with those people that are impacted by the alignment of positions and programs. April 8th is when I would look to have a special board meeting so that you could learn what those alignment recommendations are. So, it's not a reg it's not a scheduled meeting at this point. That would be a special meeting that we would schedule on April 9th, which is the next day, we'd have a voluntary steward staff meeting in which I'd review the same information with the staff that we reviewed with the board. And then on April
07213th, which would be the following week, we would consider and approve the budget alignments. And then if there's non-renewal or unrequested leave of absence positions and or discontinuation of programs for FY27. So this April 8th date is the one that I would want to recommend to the board that we have a special meeting so that we could go through the information with you prior to the board meeting. And we would go through the information with the board before we have the voluntary staff meeting that would follow on the next day. So, do we need to approve that? >> Nope. >> It's just information. >> It would be at 7 p.m. >> Yes. >> So, then on the what was the last date you listed? The regular meeting on the 13th. >> Yep. >> We would
073vote on what we hear on on the 8th. >> Yes. >> So, we would have a week to pro. Okay. Great. A >> little bit less than five days. >> Five days. >> This is a Wednesday. Six months. Three months. This would be a Monday. >> I didn't have the days. Okay. Thank you. >> Any questions? >> Okay, this is just information >> review and discuss. >> Okay, thank you. >> Okay. Um Okay, next item is lucky number 13, superintendent update with Miss Silver. >> Yes. So, um I want to take a look at enrollment and I have some data for you this month. Uh from January till February, we had 19 families f 19 students move out of the district like left. We had four students that did not show up for school for
07415 days in a row and once they don't show up for 15 days, they are automatically withdrawn from school. You don't know where they are. They did not receive notification or a records request for those students. uh we've done multiple attempts at outreach and we don't know her new. We have of this group uh one student that withdrew to drop out and then there are 10 students who went online and a significant portion of those students were due to um how political activity that's causing concern in communities. So, uh, we are concerned about those students and their well-being and their famil family's well-being. Uh, we're doing whatever we can to support them. Um, but, uh, the concern for safety for family members and the children themselves is a higher priority for those families than sending
075them to school. So, that puts us at 1907 right now. And if you remember, Dan's update was based on 1927. Um, we'd like to see some of these students come back, but I think there'll have to be some legislative movement on what, um, specific law enforcement agencies are allowed to do and not allowed to do. There any questions? the 19 students they physically moved out of town not they open enrolled somewhere else physically moved um I think 10 of them were out of state the other nine were from you know went to different places in Minnesota so I could have offline conversations with folks if they have more questions >> yeah okay so the legislation The legislative bodies are back in session and they have some things that are in the works. First thing is
076compensatory revenue. So, we know that we're going to get less compensatory revenue than we are getting this year. Uh this current year we're getting $550,000 projected for next year is $450,000. And the main reason is they're going to the proposal is that they well it was adopted. it's not proposed that they stop counting paper applications for um educational benefits. They will only be using those that are directly certified through Medicaid, SNAP, and TAP. So, right now, we have direct certification families in our district, but we have several that fill out the um paper form so that they can qualify for activities. we reduce fees or technology reduced fees or you know those kinds of things and they qualify they're counted in our number for compensatory when they qualify moving forward those paper forms won't be
077used all they will base their determination on is those that qualify for Medicaid stamp or 10 so if the family isn't wanting to do the process or go through the process to be qualified for those state programs they won't be on our compensatory goals. So, based on current direct certification numbers, we'll lose about $100,000 of funding. What we'll have to decide is, are we going to maintain those positions that are supported by this funding? Because this is all staff funding. >> This is programs and positions. Do we maintain those and take that $100,000 out of the general fund or we do we discontinue those positions? We'll have to decide. Um part of the law, the significant changes were made to how compensatory revenue revenue would be calculated and I just talked about this um the
078incentive to align the universal free meals by eliminating those paper forms. It reduces the CPUs for many districts which are the pupil units. Mhm. >> But what they're finding is with the meal situation, if a district doesn't offer those um uh reduced fees that people aren't filling out the paper form at all, right? But in our district, they are because we have those options for families to get a reduced fee for activities or technology. >> So if they get rid of the piece of if we get rid of the paper form, are we still going to offer that? >> We won't be able to because there'll be no guidelines. So then do you think that we'll since it's not supported by the state. So then do you think that we'll we'll lose students in athlete
079in athletics? >> I don't know. >> Well, we'll see. I guess >> there'll be no federal guidelines or state guidelines to determine who'd be eligible and who wouldn't because there' be no forms. >> Well, right. And you have to have the form to back it up. I understand that. I'm just >> It's just a bummer for those students that receive that. >> So the impact of this is farreaching. Um if this um there is some pressure on the legislature to hold us what's called whole harmless >> where if we um have funding at a certain level that we don't get less the following year. We don't get an increase but we don't get less but um with the financial state of this um state coffers I don't know how that's going to work. So the
080bottom amount that they are um committed to funding is 838 million. Um a similar floor for FY27. Um I don't know. I I'm concerned that we will end up with 450,000 for compensatory next year. >> Well, that's what we'll have to plan on >> unless the legislature gets done in time >> before we adopt our budget in June. Oh, weird. >> Yeah, right. >> I'm not going to say anything. >> Okay, the next one is special ed funding. So, in the last legislative session, the legislature told the Minnesota Department of Education that they have to find a reduction of 250 million in special ed for FY28. So, it's not FY27, which is next year, it's FY28 the following year. There are two areas that are being funded under special ed that are not directly related
081to special ed costs. One is ADSIS. It's 168 million from the state to pro to support ASIS. This is interventions to support students before they end up in special ed. So for us, it's academic reading and math, behavioral supports, small group and end and or individual support and early intervention. We spend our access money in all of those areas. Transportation would be reduced by 85 million. This is reimbursement for 504 students. Um maybe you break a leg and for a period of time you need to be transported in a vehicle, school vehicle, not a bus kind of thing. Homeless students, care and treatment. We spend transportation dollars in all of those areas and it's 100% reimbured right now. What the state is doing or suggesting or the commission, this blue ribbon task force is they're
082advocating or leaning towards the discontinuation of all the access funds and all of that transportation for those populations. For us, access is $265,000. Transportation out of account code 728 is about $60,000. If both of those go away, we will have a deficit of $345,000. Now, the transportation, we're going to still be responsible to transport 504 students, homeless students, and care and treatment. So, the district will end up just not getting reimbursed. The access program, the district will have to decide, are we going to continue that program and take the funds out of the general fund or discontinue the program completely? because there'll be no support for those programs or those staff. The basic aid formula increase was projected to be 2.75%. They revised it and made it 2.69. >> So for one year, >> for
083next year for next year. So, um, when we've been doing all of our settlements with the different negotiation groups, we've been talking about 5.75 because that's what we the number we had. As of last Friday, it was revised. Now, it's 5.69. Um, it's about $10,000, but it's still $10,000. So, we are anticipating next year to have that basic aid formula go up by 400,000. Now, we're projecting it's going to go up by just 390. And then we have our early summer employment this summer. They're anticipating that what they allocated to help districts transition to this that it will be covered. And if it's not fully covered, they'll do a prorated ro uh proration to help us pay for these costs. But after this summer, there's no support. So the anticipated costs in FY27 are $80,000
084that the district will not get funding for. So this projection for next year is challenging. Not only do we need to address the issues that we have in our revised budget, but the potential loss of income across all of these areas for next year and then leading into the following year are a concern not just for Steuartville. It's every district across the state. Do you have any questions? >> What was the last one? at the bottom >> summer hourly summer employment. This is the U pair professionals and the admin assistants are eligible for unemployment. >> Is that a projected what you think we might pay or is this based off of what you paid last year? >> Based on what we paid. >> Okay. >> And as salaries go up, that number will go up.
085>> Yeah. >> And what I know the first year when it was the first year that it was approved that they could apply for it, the number was smaller. Where are we at now percentage-wise for staff that utilizes it? >> Quite high. >> Okay. All right. I was just wondering if that number could be higher. >> Um, yes, it could be. >> Not all of them are doing it, but it's not all. Okay. >> Um, the in the as a district, I'm not opposed to the summer unemployment for the hourly staff. However, I do believe that if the state believes in this that they should allow us to either levy for it or they provide the funding for it. One or the other. Um, as a school district, we're not eligible to buy unemployment insurance
086like a private business would and then that would be covered. >> Um, but just expecting us to absorb these costs in my opinion is unrealistic. >> What's the what's the total benefit with all that? with some pardon. >> The total if you add up all of those >> I didn't add it all up. I just ended up with the last number and felt like I was done. >> It's pretty somber. >> 400. >> So 100 90 and the um this is for FI28 now. So don't include that. >> Yeah, we got two years getting mixed in there. >> So 90 and 100 190,000 significant. >> This one is going to be very challenging. >> Another three 335 the next year >> if we continue with programming for >> and those will be you know those
087are discussions we're going to have at the admin level. But if your program is no longer funded by the state then the district has to decide. >> Yeah. We're going to fund it out of the general fund or we're going to discontinue it. Right. >> Those are the options. Are there any other questions? We're just all going to soak it in. Okay. >> Thank you. I appreciate you. >> I appreciate you and I think I can speak for the whole board keeping us updated on all of this information as you get it. >> I'll be sharing with you um contact information for our legislators. M >> and so then you can talk about the impact that the this will have on us. Many of it the wheels are so far in motion motion I don't
088know how they'll backtrack but then they need to increase the basic formula something to support us >> and all the unfended mandates. Yeah. All of the >> all the things. Yeah. >> So that's what I have for an update. Sorry that it's a little bit of a pressing. >> Yeah. It's a stronger. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> Someday. It'll be exciting. Great news. >> Will it? >> It will. Will it do? >> Well, probably not from the legislature, but she'll count wishes and things. You're not bringing bad news. You're bringing good news for us. >> We started the meeting very positive with AAA winners and all those things. >> Should go first. >> Maybe this should be first. Yeah. >> Maybe you can't answer this question right off the top of your head, but
089to bring in Let's just say half a million crazy numbers on an operating levy increase. What What would that look like to the average taxpayer? >> I can't answer that right off the top of my head, but that is a conversation that needs to needs to start. So, um I can certainly get information on that and I can do it uh I can do it um at a couple different like maybe three different dollar amount scenarios just so you can see. But we can we can get that put together pretty easily. >> I mean it was 800,000 last year 550,000 this year. >> Okay. >> Or the year before that. Yeah, we're over the three last years. You know, what what would that look like? And >> y, you know, maybe the community would see
090it and say, "Okay, yeah, I mean, myself, yeah, okay, I don't want my taxes to go up, but if we don't have school, we don't have anything." >> Yep. We can definitely put that together. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Next item on the agenda is board committee updates. Item 14, facilities. They met last week just for or the last board meetings just for the diamond club >> meeting confer >> negotiations. Um negotiations team met with the principles tonight and we have another meeting scheduled and so um right now it's in process. >> Okay. Policy? >> Nothing. And has any board member joined up since our last update? >> I went to BCI, met with Jeff for a little while and walked around and talked to a few teachers. Found out what what they're doing in
091class. Helped a kid who I used to drive on the bus try to figure out his little reading comprehension thing. And that was challenging. >> So, you learned something that day. >> I did. I did. >> I always learn stuff when I go >> I did. I tried I tried to spoon feed it to him and he still wasn't kidding. I was like, "Oh my gosh." >> I went to the middle school. Um I was there for probably most of the morning. Um, I seen like the Lego robotics, seen um they were just opening um a new kit for a drone um to program the drones. >> Um I talks with a handful of teachers. Um I do have some concerns about the class size. Um there are teachers that don't have enough seats in
092some of the rooms. So, um I think yeah, it's definitely a concern. >> Okay. Thank you. Okay. I went to BCI, I don't know, 3 weeks ago. Um started with a little fun in the lower fifth grade where they were Miss Nelson was blowing up a balloon and trying to you had to try to catch it. >> She made me do it. I'm pretty sure I embarrassed my daughter who was there with all her friends. But, you know, it was fun. It was what I loved is it was like super fun way to kick off the day. It was right at the beginning of the day. Um super fun way to kick off the day. And in my mind, in my teacher mind, I was like, "Oo, how are they going to follow these kids
093back and get them engaged now?" And they did. They, you know, they obviously had set that expectation. Um then I went up to third grade and helped um with some test corrections with some third graders on math. That was fun getting to meet some of the students. And it's always fun to get the question like why are you here and what do you do, you know? Um and then I did a guided reading group with fifth grade. Um so yeah, lots of fun just getting to be with the kids and seeing the space and um conversations with some of the teachers as well. Then I sat with Mr. Johnson too for a little bit and just said how much I love that environment out there. Every time I'm out there, it's just such a fun
094environment and the way in which they use the space. lower fourth grade was doing a um activity and the kids were all, you know, moving around trying to find their math problem to do. Actually, this was a English one and then write it down. And so um the kids are been moving and they have the space to do that which is really nice. Um so I'm going to head to the middle school soon, too. um which I know they don't have the space um with how many kids they have and the classroom sizes they have and stuff that that BCI has to do that. So um it was a fun morning. I always enjoyed going there. So yeah, >> great. Thank you. I'll be going to the middle school next month. So I'll have an
095update to >> Oh, sorry. Last week >> I think week four sat with uh Mr. Mroy for a while and had a good conversation. And then we took a little tour of the building and poked our head in some classrooms. It's we poke our head into a kindergarten classroom. They get very distracted. So we spend a lot of time in there. But with the who are you and why are you >> so but no great visit. I hadn't been honored for I didn't go last year. So I this year. >> Great. Thank you. Thank you all for continuing to go and hopefully we can all get in the next couple months, rest of the year. Do >> you want to know anything about this meeting or >> Aaron went Mr. Lman went to Zed last
096week. >> Um, let's see. The only real exciting stuff uh was they approved Patrick Gordon or voted to approve Patrick Gordon's new contract. Um, I did not vote in that because I had no idea what they were talking about. Um, they approved the Zed calendar and it sounds like they after all of the districts approved their calendars, they try to massage it and they take a lot of their lead from Cassmville schools because it's right there as far as food service goes. But >> it's very similar to our calendar except they're done on May 28th which that'd be nice. Um they also we also approved a resolution for making recommendations for reduction programs and approved the revised budget and the next meeting hopefully will going to be here is March 19th. >> Thank you for
097going. I was supposed to go and he stepped up and was able to go so I could go to conference. I think she scr the bottom of the barrel when she called me. >> I appreciate you being able to go. >> So, thank you all for your updates and >> Oh, and I did get an extra. >> Thank you. Yes, there's several students in there book. >> Yeah, that's great. Thank you. Yes, thank you. And I guess one other update would be that I did go to the chamber banquet on behalf of the board um a couple weeks ago. it was rescheduled because it was really cold. Um so that was nice to be there with um all of the other local businesses and met some of the new businesses that are coming to town.
098So that was nice to get to hear from some of them too. Um so yeah, so next item on the agenda would be adjournment. I would seek a motion. >> So second >> I have a motion by Mr. Lowman and a second by Mr. Gist. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. I post same sign. Motion carries 6. Meeting is adjourned at 8:23 p.m. Thank you everyone.
