001And with the um agenda, I said we already moved the 10 point acceptance of the bill. >> So we have the approved agenda. We do the pledge of lead. It's our first next item of business is school construction updates. So, we had our great ribbon cutting today and nobody would let me take those big scissors and run. So, I think everybody survived. >> Well, we wanted to make sure you stayed safe. >> Yeah, exactly. >> So, um this is probably one of our last updates on the middle school edition as you already made mention. Um, of course, this is the uh image from the stadium uh looking at the building, but uh we had our ribbon cutting ceremony uh today and uh you know, people got to walk the building, see all the the new
002space, the new cafeteria, the classrooms, and it's absolutely gorgeous. If you didn't have an opportunity to do that, uh you really missed out. And the great news is um we will have kids uh in there uh beginning tomorrow when they return from winter break. So very exciting to be at this point in this project. Um it's been uh a great journey and we're very proud of the building uh that uh has been constructed for county schools. So for the middle school project, uh we have currently spent $22,522,5030. I will report that it um we are at 94.2% with project completion. We obviously know that that is not 100% accurate. Um this information was taken before the Christmas break. Um, Neielson did a nice job of cleaning a lot of stuff up to make the building
003ready for kids. Um, and I would say a more accurate is probably about 98. Um, and we have spent 86, so we're still well under budget. Um, obviously we're moving kids in so we're on time. Um, we will be working through some punch list items. Uh and there are a couple of uh the reason that we're not 100% uh there are a couple of change orders that we're finishing uh that have already been approved um and a few minor things that we need to take care of, but uh we'll take care of those while the building is occupied. >> So any other questions though? >> So in terms of bunch list, there's always a bunch, but how many items would you say you have now? Less than 100, less than 50, less than 20. >>
004Uh it's definitely far below 100. Um somewhere 50 or less sounds about right. >> Okay. >> Mostly minor >> minor issues replacing a tile here that maybe got damaged at some point or something like that. Painting some paint off of this. Those type of little things. That's fantastic. >> And I' I'd like to say that these two gentlemen have done a great job of of seeing that project through and the amount of time, energy, effort, work um above and beyond to make sure it all happens. Uh it was incredible. And so want to say thank you to you all uh for the the great work and seeing that project through. And it's exciting to cut that ribbon today and put it all in action. So thank you. Can I just wonderful services? >> I concur.
005>> Yeah, well said, Steve. All right. So, we will move on to the next uh project, which is the uh CTE building. Um, and so I'm just going to take you on a little bit of a journey here. So, rather than doing a drone shot, uh we're going to walk through the building a little bit. So, this is actually coming from the entrance from the like the teacher parking lot area. So, going through the main entrance of the building. If you look to the left, uh is where the office uh admin space will be in the building. And that's kind of this shot here. So, uh, you can see that, you know, the foundation's in, the, uh, the floor is poured, and we have about, you know, 7 ft of of CMU, uh, done up
006to this point. Um, as we kind of go a little bit further down, this is actually, so it's gone down that hallway a little bit further. This is the Little Lion's um, high school classroom space is what you're looking at here. And then this is a shot from inside of what will be little lions. So that will be um to the right of your screen will be um like a storage kind of work room area for them. And then uh all those pipes and stuff you see in the middle to the left of that will actually be two classroom spaces for the lines. So this is coming back now. We're going down the main corridor and this is to the right hand side. And if you recall, we have a uh a large meeting space
007>> that's divided into two separate rooms or can be divided into two separate rooms. This is that large uh meeting space. So, uh you can see how large that's going to be. It's going to be phenomenal to be able to have that space uh to be able to use uh with the division. Um, this is now looking to the left, going down the hallway, uh, looking at culinary. So, you can kind of see, uh, to the left of that image is like the culinary kitchen area, and then to the right of it is, um, the, uh, I'm sorry, to the left is the classroom space. To the right is a kitchen area. Um, and then as we're going down, um, this is this looks narrow, but it's actually a lot wider than it really looks
008in the image. This is the cosmetology uh um space. And then to the right you see a door that goes into a cosmetology um workspace area for it has like cabinets and storage. And then on the back left, you can't see it, but it's a door to a classroom on the back side of that. And then as we are going down the hallway, um this is the um electrical u classroom space. Uh what I want you to take notice on these spaces uh this is on the left side of the building which is the high side of the building. So these are all the big lab spaces. So lots lots of space uh for these classrooms. Um this is now looking back on the right side as we keep going down there. This is the
009first nursing uh classroom that you come to and then uh this is um in between. So on the right hand side is that nursing class that you saw on the left you can't see it but a a sliver that's another nursing class but you're looking into the nursing lab and it's kind of an L-shaped. So again just think about the space how much space they have. It's just it's phenomenal. And this is that other nursing classroom. And then as we keep going down uh this is the uh HVAC uh classroom. So, as we get further down the building, you'll notice that the CMU, the block work is much taller. Uh, and so this is the residential construction uh classroom. And then this is the flex uh lab space. I'm sorry. Actually, this is this is
010the restrooms. >> Yeah, this is the restrooms and it's kind of the locker rooms on the back side of that. Uh, this is the welding lab. Uh, and this is huge. I mean, I think it's over 3,000 square feet just in that lab. Really >> welding. >> Um, this is the CAD uh classroom and then you see the window there on the left hand side of it that looks into the CNC lab uh space. Um, and so that's that kind of gives us a quick tour. I didn't show all the spaces because I wanted to kind of manage our time a little bit, but it gives you a good idea of the progression and where we're at. Uh we're uh well on schedule and as I mentioned before, we're looking at uh March actually having
011this building under roof. Do >> you have any guest as all of the rock walls will be up? >> Um the exterior uh certainly by March the St. won't have it under roof at that point >> and they'll they'll be working on non-bearing walls inside at that point. >> So, other questions on the board. >> Okay. So, um we have currently spent $8,350,442.91 on the CTE project. Uh that represents 21.25% of our budget. Uh we have completed 28.87. So, we're on time and under budget. Uh, looking good. Um, in your packet, you have um all the change order documentation and there's documentation for two payments to RRM. This uh car subject to your questions. Thank you. >> Any other questions? >> Thank you all very much. >> Great work. >> All right. All right. So,
012on to the consent agenda. >> The consent agenda as presented. >> Do we have a second? >> Second by Mr. Steel. Any further discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. >> Those opposed. Motion carries. >> And we all have a couple action items for different representatives. motion to appoint the school board representational program for the 2026 calendar year. Stephen Harris will serve as the author. >> I think we have a second for that. >> Second. >> Any further discussion? Thank you all for your willingness to serve. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Those opposed. You didn't vote against the I make a motion for a profit as school board represent to Blue Ridge School Board for the 2026 calendar year service. >> Second. >> All right, have a second.
013And any further discussion on that and again thank you all for your willingness to serve. There be no other questions. All those in favor signify by saying >> I. Those opposed. Motion carries. Make a motion as school board represents Louis County Commission for the 2026 calendar year as the author. >> We have a second. Any further discussion on that? Thank you all for your willingness to serve as representative. And any other questions? All those in favor signify by saying I. I. >> Those opposed. Motion passes. >> Have a motion to appoint as a school board. Please education foundation for the 2026 calendar year will serve as the office. >> So any further discussion on that? >> If not all those in favor signify by saying I >> those opposed and so thank you and again
014thank you for willingness to serve on this. >> Make a motion to adopt policy LP from the BSBA. >> Do we have a second on that? >> Second. And anything we wanted to add to that in terms of >> just language clean up um pretty much the same policy just law code clean up >> law codes and um I guess articles these and those correct language. Okay. >> All right. So we had a motion we had a second. Any further discussion? If not, all those in favor signify saying I. >> I. >> Those opposed. Motion passes. >> Make a motion to enter into the PSBA policy services for the 2026 and appoint the policy contact. >> We have a second for that. Any questions on that? If not, all those in favor signify by saying
015I. >> I. Those opposed. >> All right. Motion carries. So, we're on to the acceptance of bills. a motion to approve the bills for the month of December as a second. >> And we have a second. >> Second. >> So, we have a second. Any further discussion? And I just want to disclose that um there's a payment in there to the Pont Valley Football Officials Association of which I'm a member. I don't do any of Louisa schools so I don't get any money for doing that. So, this none of this is going to me. But wanted to disclose that now that I'm thinking. >> So, any other questions? If not, all those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Those opposed and one state. All right. We are on toformational items during the
016greatness update number seven. >> Good evening, sir. >> January. >> Very excited to share a few highlights from my journey. Please appreciate Dr. and the HR team recently they held a monthly substitute teacher workshop and we added 16 potential subs into the fold and Dr. Po wanted me to make sure I highlighted that he's doing something new this time where he's actually going down to each of the schools and drawing community members from those localities to participate in some workshops and he's finding a lot of success in that new initiative. So Dr. thinking outside the box transitioning over to instruction again Dr. and myself recently judged a middle school English 5C's project. It was an awesome opportunity for Dr. Pony and I to see our students excited and engaged in their learning and thank you
017Dr. Harvard for us down there. So, we did have uh I think it was like around 12 teams participate in making their own games using Indian learning English class and it was fun to come down there and judge that. So, thank you for the invitation. Also the instructional team uh we recognize teachers for their exemplary work at the 5C's. So teachers from across the division receive certificates and pins of recognition for really uh showcasing their excellent lessons regarding the five C's. So we try to go around each school each week and recognize those teachers for their great work. So they're very excited to uh get those uh recognitions. This is very exciting as well and Dr. my output can speak to it. Uh but Miss Fade recently became class reliable and certified for conducting ECSE
018um observations. So it's very difficult assessment to pass a lot of study that takes place but make sure that Heather Spade and Dr. Alurn are able to go out to early childhood classrooms and actually rank our students in their performance. So excellent job. >> And I noticed 100% on J. >> She know she texted me and said it was so hard but I got it. I would have called >> I know how difficult that assessment is. I I took it about five years ago. It was very hard but well done. He got 100%. >> Uh transition Minister Bundri. He's all getting the job done. Recently he presented at the BTCA conference. He presented on industry partners and how they can engage with CTE programs. Uh Mr. Bowers is very creative. uh recently he started the
019renovation of the JRTC boys locker room. So it's going to be a good space for our students. I'm sure they're going to appreciate it. Transitioning over to maintenance, Mr. Miles and his team all around the county. Recently they installed new shelving at the middle school, the repaired partitions at the high school, and the repaired lights at Jill. Moving over to technology, Mr. Chester and his team are also always getting it done. Recently, they updated cafeteria terminals at pavilion. They repaired across the school division and they installed equipment at the middle school data closet. Miss Herman uh recently provided lunch for the sheriff's department and as a token of appreciation was well attended. And they also harvested sweet potatoes at TJ. They looked delicious. >> How many pounds was it? It was like 30 lbs. >>
02035 some good soil down there. TJ Andrew one man band. created a promotional material to increase awareness of the team LCPS app. They also helped deliver innovation grants for 5C's projects which many of you were participating in. We awarded over 38 grants with over $40,000. So well received and lastly Dr. Alpurn worked with the county Sheriff's Office to host the annual shot of the cop event. >> Any questions at all? >> So any questions from the board? a wonderful presentation. >> So, I did have one quick question. So, on the junior OTC, you'd mentioned the the male locker rooms. I assume we either have or will be working on female locker room. >> Well, what this is, there's a little bit of a uh it's not really the locker rooms, it's the um it was
021the changing rooms in the CTE wing. >> I got um so it's not really the locker room, it's changing room and they repurposed because it wasn't really being used for that. um it was space that we could take and use for this as a better purpose. So that was a great idea and certainly uh um it looks fantastic. It's a great way to do it so we can have all our JOTC volumes in one place. >> So it's a JOTC locker room, not just now. >> Okay. Okay. Thank you for that clarification. And I did notice at least one bathroom picture in there. So that any other questions? If not, thank you very much. >> So, on to our program at the high school. Good evening, gentlemen. >> Good evening everyone. Uh Rodney Red here
022along with Todd Ryan from the high school here to talk about our proposed changes to the 26 27 program of studies. Um and I'm going to turn the microphone over to Mr. Todd Ryan, our director of counseling. >> Well, thank you, Mr. Red. Good evening, everyone. Happy New Year. >> This is always my favorite time of year to talk about some of the new stuff that we're going to be able to offer at Louisa. Um, and kind of to put in perspective, tomorrow, uh, tomorrow we're going to start for the first time German 2 and ROC. We'll start classes tomorrow for the first time at the high school. So, that's pretty exciting to talk about, but to know and about a year ago, we were talking about those courses here as we presented changes and
023new courses to the program of studies. So um every year we ask uh the departments and we talk as an administrative team along with CTE about what kind of changes we need to make or additions to the program of studies uh to continue the robust programs that we offer but also provide challenges to students and things in areas that they're interested in that we have ability to do so. So you'll see here um the first thing we have is um having added German and a sign language in the past few years um we realize that students who who have to get to three years of a language to meet the advanced studies diploma requirements many students want to do four and then even beyond that and what we haven't had in the past are weighted
024classes at level four. So we've talked about how that provides additional rigor the class are pretty much taught predominantly in the native lang in the language. So we thought waiting all the fourth year of a level of classes in Spanish, French, sign language, and German would make those even across the board. And students who choose to go beyond the minimum requirements for the advanced studies diploma would be rewarded, if you will, with a weighted course offering at the fourth level for all of our language offerings. Having said that, we also um in oversight certainly on my part when we added sign language as a program, we we I didn't would have the foresight to see that we would have four. There is a sign language four course that exists. So, we'd like to add sign
025language 4. We have two sign language instructors right now that could teach that. Not a problem, but that would give up to four in every language. And then Spanish, French, and German would have four. and then beyond that AP for um other languages other than dual enrollment Spanish which we currently have. So we'd like to to wait all the level four of world languages and add sign language 4 specifically. Also um in doing that um in the conversation with the world language department there was a a slight um just kind of tweak to what the Spanish for class would look like um in so far as a description so students understood uh what that would look like um moving forward and that's included in there as well. The next thing we'd like to to look
026at is um we've always had honors level classes in every science discipline, earth science, biology, and chemistry, but we've never had it in physics. Curiously, um so in talking to the science department, certainly the physics teacher, uh we thought adding an honors level physics would be good. That's above and beyond what physics is, but not to the level of AP physics. And right now, the only two options for civysics for students at Louisa County High School is physics or AP. So offering this middle middle class um think would meet a need that some students particularly students interested in engineering might want to take advantage of and would set the table for the students to take AP physics subsequently and potentially do better on the AP exam. We have earth science and um you know a
027biology and AP biology, chemistry. Um but this offering in physics I think would meet that need for students that want something more than physics but maybe not to the level AP physics. And if they want AP physics again set the table uh for them to have that experience. So we'd like to offer honors physics. That's the biggest change. These are just updated descriptions for physics. But the biggest change there would be add honors physics as a course. Okay. The bottom bullet there is something that um you may have heard about is it's information we'd like to add information in our program studies about the uniform universal certificate of general studies. This is an initiative by the community college um to offer this uh one-year certificate uh for free to all students. Uh we had a
028recent meeting with uh PBCC specifically um and Louisa County High School offers all but two classes that are required for the UCGs. it is incumbent upon the community college to offer those to our students those two classes for free for students who want to pursue this particular credential. Um those two classes are bio 106 which is a life science class and a humanities class. So by adding this to our program of studies we can advertise that to students. students who choose to to take these courses uh would have the opportunity then to take these two free courses from PVCC in addition to the dual enrollment things that you all already pay for English history math etc. So I'd like to add a blur about that in our program of studies and since I'm talking fast
029I'll keep continue to talk fast I apologize for that. Um and then lastly are a litany of um CTE courses and Mr. Bundric is here as well. But um in looking at the what our teachers can teach and what our students are interested in and what we can do to enhance our CT program, there are a number of different courses that we could add using our current staff to teach um that meet the high quality, high demand jobs that are out there that exist locally and nationally. So you can see there's there's a number of them. Um I'm not sure Mr. Bund you want to come speak to to those specifically. um that these would be several courses that we would offer to students starting as early as fall of 2026. >> Before he comes,
030let me ask you if you don't mind >> the um finally, were you surprised that we the demand for it? >> Yeah, I I I would say yes, I was surprised. Um you know, I we we had since as long as I've been here, we'd have we'd have Spanish and French. Um, and then when we offered sign language, um, it became a really popular course for students to take. And I think what we've been able to see with students who take that course is an ability to communicate with folks that they may not have been able to communicate with previously, whether it's family members that have had strokes or younger kids who are non-verbal, uh, or just, you know, interacting with other, you know, students and adults at school. So, it it it was a
031surprise to me, but it was a pleasant surprise, I would say. Thank you and good evening. Um, as you may see in your packet, Mr. Ryan mentioned uh the addition of some CTE courses. The the agricultural courses are going to be um surveyed this year to be added for 27. So we need the livestock production management course, ecology, biological applications of agriculture, forestry management and fish and wildlife management. So along with that, those courses will also prepare our students for the biology so um we're very excited about surveying students on that a side right now to see what the what the take may be. Um we don't have to add those in the fall of 26, but definitely looking to add those in fall of 27, but like your information u like your permission now
032to go ahead and start surveying students for those. On the other side is marketing. That is a completer sequence change per the state. So we need to add marketing to our sports marketing curriculum and our principles of business. Just one extra class that once again instructor would teach at no additional um upset to the to the personnel at all. Digital applications is a freshman course in the cyber security track. So digital applications will come in for the freshman level. A lot of students need to learn that course before they go into cyber fundamentals. And then lastly, the fundamentals of power generation. That is the completer course to our current energy and power that we need um per state code. So just making some adjustments off of the uh course guide audit and to align with
033state um state course work. >> Okay. >> Any questions from the board? >> So asking my standard question, are there any additional costs associated with it? >> There are none for instructional materials nor staffing. Yeah, I think it speaks volumes of the quality of staff we have to be able to be certified so many other um and give so many opportunities to our students to be able to add this many more opportunities. It's great. So, I appreciate you all thinking outside the box, looking into that and putting this in front of the board. >> And then the other question, >> can you do this to action or move forward? >> That would be preferred if you can. Yes. >> Mr. Behind the Leave the lean forward. >> I'll make a motion to move the program.
034>> Second, Mr. D. Any further discussion? If not, all those in favor signify by saying I. >> Those opposed. So now we have 9.08. >> School programs of studies as performance. >> Second for Mr. Again. Any further discussion? And these programs start as early as next fall. >> Yes. Yes, sir. >> They're great. >> Great work. Great work. >> Are any other comments? All those in favor signify by saying >> I posted unanimous. Thank you all very much. Great job. >> Happy new year. >> Yeah. All right. So, on to the proposed 20 I can't even say it. 2026 2027 school calendar. >> Yes. So, we are presenting tonight to you. M Dr. Paloney will present to you the uh 2026 2027 school calendar, the upcoming school calendar, um as it's been vetted through our
035advisory boards as well as our um our staff. And so, we'd like to present that to you tonight. >> Good evening. Um, so I'm excited to share with you the proposed calendar for the 26 2.7 school year. Um, you know, some years the calendar process can be pretty challenging to navigate to find that calendar that's going to be able to meet our needs. However, this year was really a seamless process. Um, this calendar very much lines up with this year's school calendar. Um, and we've received a lot of positive feedback from staff from families um that this calendar this has worked really well. Um so this 26 27 calendar um models exactly after that. Um so in July teachers report back that last week of July. Um there are seven um teacher work days um
036to start the school year. Our teachers will have adequate time to get prepared for the school year. Um school will start uh Wednesday, August 12th. So it's that midweek start which allows staff to do two days of routine procedures start that next week as a full week. Um this calendar option does have two staff development days um in the first semester and two in the second semester. We've added an additional staff development day this year in our calendar in October and we also some community service on that day and that's something we received a lot of positive feedback on. continue with this calendar. Um, and in the first semester, you've got a three-day holiday break for Thanksgiving and then you have two full weeks off at the winter break. And then in looking at the
037second semester, um students will report back um on a Wednesday. Um classes will resume in January. um spring break um follows Easter um there at the end of March and we end school before Memorial Day. So, like I said, this calendar really lines up nicely with all the things that we've heard over the years that the staff and community appreciate. So, it was a pretty seamless process. Any questions that you all have about the calendar? Nice work. >> Very, very well received. >> Yeah, nice work. Nice work. >> Make a motion to approve the 2026 2027 calendar as presented. >> We got to move action. >> Sorry. >> We got We got to move it first. >> All right. So, we got to move it. >> We just moved it. >> All right. So, we
038have a second. >> No, Steve. Second. All right. Any further discussion? There being none. All those in favor signify by saying I. I. >> Those opposed. And now we have an action item. Motion approve 2627 as presented. >> Second. Give those. Any further discussion? >> And just echo. Thanks for the hard work on that. Looks like it's a good calendar. >> Thank you so much. >> All those in favor signify by saying I. I. >> Those post motion carries. >> So we are on the public comment section. So we have anybody who'd like to speak uh just come forward now and three minutes as an individual five would be representing a group and I will look around the room to my Mississippi. I don't see anyone. Um so that'd be the case for public comment
039and on to reports. So Mr. Harris, any questions you have? >> Absolutely not. >> All right. And I just wanted to call out facilities. I see the street going. So thank you all for staying on those. Job well done. That makes a difference. >> U Mr. Chairman, I want to call out the attendance folks. They really did a nice job. You can't teach people unless they're in the classroom and I those numbers are amazing. They're doing an awesome job. I just and uh they're just doing really getting those kids in school and it's important and I it's really showing up and it shows up in all of our improvements also. So uh and then the other thing I also want to say something about the facilities. They're doing a fabulous job. Our places look great
040and everything looks just wonderful. Really, really nice work. >> Good, good points to um point out and I completely agree. um that you know appearance is where you start and I think a difference and you said the attendance I think any other school system would be >> envious of so those folks >> um any other items if not we have our upcoming meeting our regular school board meeting February and I guess that would be So, February 3rd. >> So, February 3rd, 7 p.m. here. And then there's BA BSBA capital conference at 26 to 27. Please reach out to Miss Campbell if you're interested in that. And at the sound of the beat, do we have a motion to adjourn? >> Guess we're out of time. We got a second. >> Second. Second. >> All right.
041So, all those in favor signify by saying I. I. >> Those opposed? Thank you all very much.
