014practice not only include situation about having a daughter but it also includes sexual orientation gender identity ethnicity and religion among the other dimensions um inclusion is a practice and should be a golden institutions of learning assign resources too by having the understanding and awareness of diversity equity and inclusion microaggressions and duplicate bias our children your students will learn to have difficult conversation become self-aware and mindful of the biasing I feel the point of goal is to encourage critical thinking and to help you to come out of their comfort them to push themselves in situational learning in a positive way we should want them to welcome new ideas have meaningful conversations the different cultures and ideology to learn from them Equity means recognizing that we do not all productive place so we must acknowledge and make

015adjustments to address historical and discrimination I feel the board must have an equity mindset which may mean allocating resources implementing oversight to investigate issues that impact marginalized and excuse me underrepresented group uh the U.S Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona during the department of patient Equity Summit in 2021 in June he spoke about how to lead transformatively uh in training for educators and staff about Dei student Support Services he also spoke about investing in our educator and building a divertic pipeline so that every student from every background could be supported by teacher mentors and staff who can share and understand their experiences A diversity Equity inclusion are not passing buzzword or they're not part of a Walt culture regime but an ongoing continuous effort to make sure that every student feels supported in their classroom and

016in every educational environment no matter what their differences are it's about providing the pathway to contribute to a community has been to make the world a better place through personal accountability and individual responsibility um as members of the board of education for Carteret County you play a critical role in creating an organization that prioritize good support for the diversity equity and inclusion as you accept this responsibility to hold each other accountable for embracing and living the values of diversity Equity inclusion please make it a frequent agenda for meeting and it will trickle down to the rest of the educational organization um I know of course that's going to think of time we're going to keep it short but a September the inclusive education depends on school transformation and system change um as Michael Miguel Cordo
