Included on tonight's agenda are several key personnel recommendations. Please be reminded that if your statement is too lengthy, abusive, obscene, irrelevant or redundant, your participation may be terminated. Please remember to state your name and address each and every time you address the board. Does have does anyone have any questions at this time? Hi, my name is Kim Van Wart, 34 Ivy Place. Uh, just a couple questions. Uh, first, I hear that unlike the last meeting and this meeting, we're hearing that conversations are happening

with transition and what's going on with the middle school, but are we going to get an actual update about how it's going? cuz unfortunately the rumor mill definitely flies and doesn't sound great. So would love to get some clarification on the things that are going on there. Um heat related, uh bathrooms not working. Um worrying about will the sixth graders have gym class? So again, rumors I know, which is why I'd love some clarification. And then I have a secondary thing with transportation. >> You want me to clarify? >> Yeah. So I can give you somewhat of an update. Um we've been going through a lot with our supervisors as well as our middle school staff. I can tell you that um the facilities are coming along. Um I have been in there. Um the

the rooms are framed. We're working through the final stages of HVAC, electricity. To my understanding, everything's on track with our middle school media center. Um we do hope that it is um completed before schedule and we do hope to start having meetings there to showcase that facility, especially with the team that kicked us off last year and and you were on that team. Yeah. Um the middle school um bottom floor configuration is at the bid. I believe the bid openings are February 12th. That's on schedule as well. Uh we're not foreseeing any any delay there. Uh we have met um with with staffing. We we surveyed the staff to see who would be interested. We had an overwhelming response uh the week the second week after we got back in January. I met with every

staff member individually. U we spoke about the transition uh soon. and we'll be notifying them who's going um and we will be starting to meet with them to start developing the curriculum and program. Our um our rationale is that uh the teachers that show interest, the teachers will work with our middle school staff, our administration, our supervisors develop the program that we're kind of laying out. We have done a lot of work with our middle school leadership team. Um as a new vice principal started, we have started actually scheduling the building for next year. Um, and we are pretty much completed with that, ensuring that every classroom has a place, every student has a place. We've run a mock student schedule and we're in the final stages completing that. So, we've been doing a lot

of work with with the middle school project. Um, every checkpoint we've gotten through gives us more confidence that this is going to happen and we're excited to to do that. Um, although um you may not hear or see, I would not put much stock in the rumors that you're hearing. >> Right. That's why I came here to ask the questions. There you go. >> Um, and the second thing actually, uh, Mr. Bany, there was an email a few months back that I had written to you, um, just seeing if there's an update, obviously with the uptick, um, with the terrible accidents that are happening and individuals getting hit. Specifically, my question is specifically about Radcliffe and the issues that were brought up with our transportation and our drop off and pickup location, which is on

a two-way road, very small. Um, I had made mention, you know, other people were brought into it. I know it's not just a BOE problem, it's also a town problem, but hadn't received any updates other than being told it would be looked into. So, >> yeah. So, I I can tell you that I I was at Rackcliffe several mornings looking at that personally, you know, on that on that street. I did talk to chief police several times regarding that matter as well as the building principal, but how we could move internal resources, how we could strategize. Um, since visiting that with the principal, I have not received feedback. I feel like some of those issues were we found remedies to some of those issues. I can revisit it with Mr. Carney as well as some

of our other buildings. Just in general, all of our buildings are very stressed at drop off and pickup time. Having spent three or four weeks at Lincoln School, whether it's Brown Street or Harrison A where that cross is that very stressful there at Lincoln School. And the same goes for Rackley School on Chestnut Street. I believe you're pertaining to >> specifically since it's a two-way street. Yeah. Parking on, >> you know, in Yanuka, I don't know the name of that road. Even even our early childhood center, you know, is is stressed. We have neighborhood schools that a lot of people, you know, drive to and and double park in that case. And I think that's some of the issue working with the Department of Public Safety. They've been wonderful. I have to say, uh, the

chief has been great in helping us deal with some of these things. Some of these need bigger um solutions than, you know, and we'll continue to look at it as we go forward. I'd be happy to talk about specific concerns offline. Um, and I'm sorry for not getting back. >> No, that's okay. Again, I know it wasn't just a town like just the school situation. So if I have to go to a commissioner meeting and bring it to their attention again, I have no problem doing that. But I just wanted to see if the school district itself has kind of been there to see it. You know, again, I can only speak for Radcliffe and it's it's a real problem like there like it's shocking that we haven't had an accident there yet in in

this time. So I appreciate it. Thank you. >> Sure. >> I think I have another question. Go to you first. Hi, Venus Hernandez, 274 East Pac Avenue, corner of Columbia. Um, I know this is again something that probably has to go to the town, but if you guys can help facilitate, there's been a lot of kids getting hit by cars. There's no crossing car crossing guard at center and Franklin in the morning or in the afternoon. Also, Center and Ravine, that's where the biggest spots are that hit. Is there any way that you guys can help in facilitating and trying to get crossing guards there? >> Mr. Bainy, >> thank you Mr. >> I know it's a public safety. >> As you know, crossing guards are run out of Department of Public Safety and we

have a great relationship with them and they do a great job. I can continue conversations about what you're bringing forward uh with them uh to see what they can deploy. Uh my understanding is some of the unfortunate things that have occurred um have occurred far from our schools, not necessarily, you know, at a crosswalk in front of our school or something like that. Some on on Center Street, you know, pretty a couple blocks from our schools. But I I do recognize what you're saying and I'll be sure to talk about that with um >> yeah, like this morning was a 13-year-old girl walking to the middle school. Friday was Thursday was a mom with two kids in kindergarten that was hit at that those intersections. So, if anything that you guys can do, >> you're

referring to the ones on Center Street, >> the Center in Franklin and Center and Ravine this morning. And then >> like I again I know this has nothing to do with you guys, but there was no delayed opening today. I feel like a delayed opening could have helped. >> Well, that does that. That's me, right? So, so I I understand uh your concern. I I analyzed everything yesterday and felt that was the best call for the district. >> Yeah. I just think it's hard because there's sidewalks that aren't shoveled. Like my son walks to school. He's in eighth grade. He There's only two directions he can walk. He can walk Eastbake to center or down Columbia A to Bloomfield A. Okay. So again, this has nothing to do with you guys, but sidewalks aren't shoveled

and it's like, you know, one of my big things like I asked Unnly Parents like who shovels by the the power lines? I guess it's PSEG. Well, if my son walks to school, that's a big section. It's not shoveled. He has to walk in the street. East Pay A right where she lives on Ivy, the corner of Ivy and um and Center and the corner of East Pacin Center. It's not shoveled. It was not safe for my son to walk to school. He had to take an Uber. He's 13. Like, and again, I know this has something to do with you guys, but you know, I just feel like maybe if there was a delayed opening that could have helped. And >> I do think an hour and a half later that snow would still

be there. Yeah. Um No, I I do want to give a shout out to Mike Priy, Timmy Coer, their whole team. Yeah, >> they did a great job with our facilities and when we found those things adjacent to our schools, they actually went out and helped remedy those situations as well as best we could. But we cannot go out and and shovel private. No, I know you guys can't, but maybe if we can, you know, again, help push the call because I am going to call the police because today about the corner of Hillside and Chestnut when I was picking John Michael up from school today, I had I stopped in the crosswalk and I watched kids cross and they were climbing over the snow because whoever owns that property didn't even cut a hole

for the kids. Like, they were literally climbing over. So if again if this is something that you guys can just help with in saying hey can you please go out and check these and ticket and stuff like that because it's just not safe for the kids that are walking and my main concern was those crosswalks. >> Thank you for your feedback. >> Thank you. Is there anybody else looking to come to the mic to speak tonight? Seeing none, um, uh, motion to close the hearing of citizens portion. >> Make a motion. Second. >> Okay. Uh, just go to the Okay. Okay. Um, now for our resolutions, uh, academic, uh, Mrs. Danchek Martin. >> Yes, Mr. Vice President. I'd like to move academic resolutions 1 through five as written. >> Second. >> Discussion. >> Sorry. >>

Mr. Deilla. >> Mrs. Danek Martin. >> Yes. >> Dr. Dia. >> Yes. >> Mr. Delpano. >> Yes. >> Mr. Fragel's. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gilbert. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Quirk. >> Yes. >> Mr. Scotty. >> Yes. >> Mr. Balsamo. >> Yes. Uh, administration. Mr. Scotty. >> Yes. Mr. Vice President I'd like to move administration resolutions 1 through 4 as >> second >> discussion. >> Mr. Devita >> Mrs. Danek Martin >> yes >> Dr. Dia >> yes >> Mr. Delpano >> yes >> Mr. Fragile >> yes >> Mr. Gilbert >> yes >> Mrs. Quirk >> yes >> Mr. Scotty >> yes >> Mr. Balsamo >> yes uh finance resolutions Mr. Fragginals >> thank you Mr. Mr. Vice President, I'd like to move finance resolutions 1 through 10 as written >> discussion. >> Mr. Dvita, >> Mrs.

Danek Martin, >> yes. >> Dr. Dia, >> yes. >> Mr. Delpiano, >> yes. >> Mr. Fragginels, >> yes. >> Mr. Gilbert, >> yes. >> Mrs. Quirk, >> yes. >> Mr. Scotty, >> yes. >> Mr. Balsamo, >> yes. Um, policy. Um, Mr. Scotty. >> Yes, Mr. Vice President. I'd like to move policy resolution written. >> Second >> discussion. >> Mr. Dvita. >> Mrs. Danchek Martin. >> Yes. >> Dr. Dia. >> Yes. >> Mr. Delpano. >> Yes. >> Mr. Fragel's. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gilbert. >> Mrs. Quirk. >> Yes. >> Mr. Scotty. Yes, >> Mr. Balsamo. >> Yes. Personnel, Mr. Delia. >> Thank you, Mr. Vice President. I'd like to move personnel as written. Resolution one. >> Second. >> Discussion. Um, I just wanted to take a moment. Uh, I don't normally do this. Uh, on tonight's

agenda for Supervisor Special Ed, Michael Hanley. I've known him and his family a very long time, and I think this is a really good get for our town. If I may, Mr. Vice President, I'd like to say welcome to Mr. Hanley and Mr. Cbeck. And I promised my daughters I would also uh take a pause as I was reviewing the agenda. Um there are retirements listed and I want to uh give a heartfelt congratulations to those uh retirees that are coming up. um specifically our Washington school teachers that treated our daughters like family. Um we trusted them with our our our heart and soul and our most prized possessions which are our children and they they never let us down. Uh we have some wonderful educators that are um announcing their retirement. I couldn't help

but uh say um congratulations to them. your long story careers and uh as the saying goes, goodbye tension, hello pension. So congratulations. Um I'd be remiss if I didn't at least say that and fulfill my promise to my daughters. >> Thank you. Uh Mr. Dillia, anybody else? >> Mr. Dvita. >> Mrs. Danchek Martin. >> Yes. >> Dr. Zia. >> Yes. >> Mr. Delpano. >> Yes. >> Mr. Fragile. >> Yes. >> Mr. Gilbert. Yes, >> Mrs. Quirk. >> Yes. >> Mr. Scotty, >> yes. >> Mr. Balsamo, >> yes. Um, Mr. Dvita, would you tell us about the uh addendum resolution? >> Yes. Um, there's an addendum um presented tonight. Um, it hasn't been released to the public, but I'll explain it and uh read the uh resolution. Um at our last meeting um we had a

um uh somebody come to the the microphone uh with his grandson um Miss Alpakor was his name and uh he talked about um the hill a high five hill at Radcliffe school um and he had talked about um looking to get some grants um uh I was emailing with him over the weekend um he actually found one grant um and it's it's due on February 13th so with a tight timeline um he needed a uh a resolution to be approved approved at tonight's meeting. Um uh so we're we're going to be applying for the grant uh w with his assistance. Uh it's not going to cost the district any uh money. Um and we'll have um uh the the board will be able to review everything um before it's submitted. Uh so I just wanted

to give some uh background on that, but I'll read the resolution. Uh it's whereas the Nutley Board of Education desires to apply for and obtain a grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for approximately $75,000 to carry out a project to renovate the athletic field known as High Five Hill, which is currently in poor condition and present several hazards. Our goal is to create a safer and more functional space that would benefit the deserving students of Rackcliffe School in Nutley, New Jersey. Therefore, be it resolved that the Nightly Board of Education does hereby authorize the application for such a grant and recognizes and accepts that the department may offer a lesser or greater amount and therefore upon receipt of the grant agreement from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs does further authorize

And therefore be it yet further resolved that the persons whose names, titles, and signatures appear below are authorized to sign the application and that they or their successors and said titles are authorized to sign the agreement and any other documents necessary in connection therewith. And the grant submission is also contingent upon board attorney approval. >> You need a motion. >> Yep. So we need >> Thank you, Mr. Dvita. Uh can I get a motion?
