this year and we look forward to having you participate in our meetings and um we are now at the point of the agenda where we ask whether you have anything you'd like to report to us so we both have short statements so i guess we'll just read that thank you so thank you for that my name again is joshua i'm a senior at princeton high school i'd like to thank all my peers for placing their confidence in me and electing me as a student liaison to this board of education i hope that i'll be able to work with all of you to make positive changes within our school district and represent the interest and voice of ph as a student body i hope that through my work with all of you this year i will

be able to fulfill the expectations of every student at princeton high school and honor the trust they have placed in me thank you thank you for that introduction as well um i'm maya khan and i'm a senior at phs and i was voted as one of the student board liaisons on the executive board first off i would like to thank all the teachers and staff for all the extra hard work they put into the school year it does not go unnoticed and i'd also like to thank all my peers for electing me to represent them as student board liaison i'm really excited to take on the school year and work with the board of education um it's crazy how fast this year is going already and as a senior definitely makes me sad but i'm

also amazed at how quickly students and staff have adapted and are continuing to adapt to the new daily challenges we're facing as community this goes to show how resilient phs is and even in the face of adversity we all come together and face our challenges head on and i'm very grateful to be part of this community and i promise to provide a platform for all students to speak their mind and again thank you for this opportunity stay safe and everyone enjoy the rest of your night thank you very much welcome welcome again we're happy to have you and in particular in this unusual year we'll be really looking forward to hearing what you have to report to us uh on a monthly basis so thank you for participating and bringing the student voice to our

meetings that brings me to uh the president's report and i'll be very brief because we've got some really interesting uh news to share tonight um i just want to thank everyone again for all of the effort we are gradually bringing back schools we're trying to bring the children back in and it's obviously going in fits and starts and i wanna you know i think we talk tonight a little bit with our superintendent about how hard again our in particular our nurses and our our our staff as our administrators are working to figure out exactly the right way to open back up and to pull back to keep everyone safe and so we do appreciate that this is a 24 7 seven day a week job at this point because news is coming in to people

and information is flowing all different times and it's a very unusual time and we are very grateful again for all of the work and the patience of our families and our students and the flexibility of everyone and the hard work of our educators and our staff and everyone involved and the support of the community has been so important to us so i just want to say that as a gratitude uh at the outset of this meeting um the next thing that we will talk about is the superintendent job profile and i would like to introduce uh kevin o'mara our search consultant who i think is going to lead us in the next uh section of the meeting thank you all very much uh thrilled to be here um great student representatives by the way is

very impressed with both of them so thank you very much um what i'd like to do is kind of walk through a uh powerpoint that kind of outlines the the destination that we arrived at which is the profile itself um i've sent that to matt and matt if i could ask for you to put that as on the screen thank you thank you and i'll walk through the slides when they're ready to go um here we go thank you sir you got it okay so you can click right matt yep okay if you can go to the next slide so the board asked me to do a few things one is to conduct some focus groups and open forms to get a wide variety of stakeholder opinions uh representative from across the princeton community they

also asked me to put a survey together questionnaire online for about a month to get input from especially school staff parents students and all members of the community and then using those data to create the profile based on the information that i gather from those sources just so everyone's um kind of kept up in the loop i received probably another 25 or so um emails from people who perhaps didn't feel comfortable sharing their opinion on other people um i've had maybe two dozen or so phone calls with with community members and and staff members um and so this is a good set of information to create the profile which we'll get to at the end can you hit the next slide please um so there are ways that we would suggest that you use this

profile and one would be of course to use the profile as we screen candidates and also that it would be a good way to um kind of demonstrate uh the the interest and the profile by your interview questions that we'll help you with as you get to that stage um the board may you want to use this profile report to just find more about the district and how they feel about uh the job that the board of education and the staff are doing with with the students in the community um as i talked about we'll use this profile to screen and interview candidates and then the community may use this profile report to find out more about the strengths and the challenges facing the district next matt so just to give you some background we

had 156 attendees for the focus groups open forums many more than that were invited to participate in and um may have been that people were too busy or didn't fit their schedules or there were health concerns or whatever but but this was much lower than the people that the board wanted to attend these meetings there were 12 focus groups and two open forums we had 268 responses to the survey just to be very clear this is not a scientific study this is not a a scientific study and these are only the general perceptions of those who responded or participated it's not a randomized study it's not a sampling study percentages are rounded in the survey just so you know next as i described there were 12 focus groups representing all the groups you see below

there were two open forums with 22 attendees in total and community and those are broken down into two groups staff members of the school district and community members of the princeton community so basically we ask questions in four key areas what are the districts strengths and attributes we want to make sure that we get a good pool of candidates so we want to make this as attractive as a position as possible by the way you've got a great school district a great community you're going to have a strong slate but we want to make sure that we outline those specifically for for candidates that may want to find more about princeton we also want to be fair and transparent that that the district has some challenges and so we asked what should the new superintendent

know before he or she accepts this this huge responsibility what would the priorities be for a new superintendent in other words what should the new superintendent focus on in his or her first year and what kind of characteristic skills personalities traits experiences should the person have to be successful at princeton princeton's a unique district so these are the strengths that are kind of outlined through the survey and focus groups and open forums you have a very very engaged community this is no surprise anybody sitting there watching right now you have a very strong community spirit and traditions princeton is princeton it's a destination community people want to live there primarily because it's such a great community and the school district reflects that it's a blue ribbon school district there is a demonstration to high commitment

to equity issues that have involved in the districts there are lots of opportunities for students and families a very well-rounded community um you've got very high standards and high expectations from from everybody that deals with the district um starting with the staff administrative team the board of education but certainly your students and it's a very close-knit community you're supportive one of the students mentioned this at the beginning there which i was pleased to hear they're very supportive it's a safe uh environment within a great location almost equally distant from philadelphia and new york city i'm sorry if i got that wrong but that's what i heard um there's a great deal pride in the district very high school spirit and support you've got a very rigorous and challenging curriculum you've got a very strong strong

teaching staff dedicated to the student success you've got princeton university right there and all this relationship it offers is outstanding you've got a very hard working and responsive board of education and you've got strong fiscal support from the community for for uh supports that need to take place um the challenges um you've got a very very engaged community um and that you know is the other side of the same coin that that there is this second bullet there's a squeaky wheel syndrome that sometimes emerges that perhaps some voices are heard more than others you've got a very diverse uh community but some families and students feel like they're under-resourced and some staff members feel the same way the board of education frankly does not always always always appear to work together the facilities across the

district need some immediate attention and there are some overcrowding issues that will probably get worse before they get better there is a princeton way in in quotes it's it's a different culture it's difficult for an innovative brand new leader from outside the system they have to get to know the people and the princeton community before that takes place the ongoing equity issues appear to be an ongoing elusive goal in some respects there is sometimes in some methodologies a lack of timely and or targeted and or transparent communication be that from the admin team the teachers the board of education whatever there are some communication issues that need to be addressed there appears to be from some standpoint from some respondents a lack of true collaboration between the administration team and the teachers there is some

um some not some some perception that perhaps that teacher efficacy is full spectrum that there are some teachers who are at the top of their game and there are some teachers who perhaps need some professional development or some better supports um there's also a lack of a true vision and strategic plan to carry this district forward in the next five years the one the strategic plan that's in place right now my recollection says it's about five years old and someone can correct me if i'm wrong about that um desired skills and characteristics of the next person someone that's easy to approach someone who's human someone easy to get to know and warm someone who's engaging this person should have an equity leader background experiences in success with equity issues in other districts that he or

she comes from highly visible in the schools in the community this person should be the face and students and teachers and community members should be able to know who that that person is this person should be collaborative but also a decision maker holds oneself accountable sees things through has a thick skin can take criticism barry can tell you more about that than i can someone who's decisive and resilient kind of mirrors the the the bullet point above it someone who's genuine and authentic uh says what he's what he or she thinks and follows through gets to know the culture and especially the culture uh the community and the culture is a priority those are important traits someone who's innovative who's visionary who can focus on long-term planning and big picture environments someone who doesn't get

bogged down with details yes details are important but this person should have a vision for where this community and where this school district needs to be this person needs to be a solid financial planner who can think several steps ahead and kind of think of different options moving ahead this person should be a team builder a consensus maker who can bring people together especially people of diverse backgrounds to work towards a common purpose this person should be an outstanding community uh communicator in his or her written spoken and electronic versions creative invented and innovative i've repeated that throughout but this person needs to be creative thinker someone who thinks outside the box and someone as we all know is good at recovery uh recovery planning from the clovid situation that we find ourselves in just

to give you some background on on the the turnout we had 266 total responses you can see the breakdown there can you hit the next one matt sure i'm sorry these are the responses in the survey for what the the community and survey responders thought were the educational strengths of the of the princeton public schools so you can read through these yourself but they're all they all range from about the hot top scores were from about 25 percent of the respondents to about 30 percent of the respondents um the improvements that are needed at princeton public schools uh number one was nurturing each child's unique gifts and needs again focusing on the individual and all the way down through higher social emotional support for the students ranging from 37 percent of the respondents to 22

percent of the respondents the strengths of the districts from an organization and managerial perspective by and large the reputation of district is is incredible and that brings people to community the support the fiscal stability and the communication with parents those all kind of rounded out but the number one by far was the reputation of the district needed uh improvements in organization and managerial endeavors a long-range detrition strategic plan and modernized and upgraded school facilities were number one and two fiscal stability and better communication rounded out the top four priorities 21st century skills in other words uh leading into a new we're in the 21st century already but leading into a new endeavor for college and career readiness for all students and individualized instruction based on not only intellectual superiority and high achieving curriculum and high

standards but also social emotional learning constructs student well-being student engagement and mastery of core academic subjects again we talked about the characteristics and skills uh they ranged in a clear vision by and large the number one by a fair margin uh and also student-centered were the top two um but you can kind of read through the the rest of these they're all kind of uh going from top to bottom there they're all reflected in the profile so the profile these are the bullet points that have emerged uh through the survey the focus groups the open forums all the emails and phone calls i've received and discussions i've had with people on the ground there at princeton someone who's highly visible personable transparent approachable accessible and open-minded needs to be an outstanding visionary leader who can

inspire and empower others he leads he or she leads in the development of long-range planning to maintain a high level of academical academic and operational success of the district has a great understanding of the equity issues facing the princeton community and has experience dealing with equity issues in school community settings has understanding of the effects demographic shifts have on schools and academic environments is able to empower staff members with targeted professional development to deal with the issue issue of changing demographics and enrollments this understanding of school finance and is able to plan accordingly both long term and short term this person needs to be a team leader with high expectations who holds people accountable and yet is supportive collaborative and trust building this person needs to be aware of the need for community involvement makes

princeton their home and part of their fabric and that can be interpreted several ways we'll talk about that i believe this person needs to be outstanding communicator who understands the importance of letting families and community members know about the great great great things in their lives happening in the princeton school district but all listen also listens to the concerns that need to be addressed and communicated next steps the consultants me recruit and we've already been doing this for a few months conduct interviews and reference checks using the new superintendent pro profile as our screening instrument recommend candidates to the board for the semi-final round conduct the interview workshop with the board of education and prepare salary benefits comparisons which have already provided the board in some measure the board conduct conducts their first interviews with

the semifinalist slate chooses the finalists the board holds their second interviews and here's the candidate presentations from the finalists the board of education as empowered by their uh is a power by law uh conducts uh the final selection of the finalists they conduct the reference checks negotiates the contract and the new superintendent begins his or her duties on or before july 1st 2021. thank you very much matt no problem happy to take any questions okay so should i jump in yeah go ahead betsy so kevin thank you i lost you on my screen but there you are thank you so much for your work for engaging with our community i want to say thank a very hearty thanks to our community members who took part in this process as well um we're grateful for all

of your input just so the community knows all of the parents who had requested being part of a focus group were accommodated in those focus groups not all of them were able to make it obviously but we really appreciate everyone's participation so kevin at this point should we discuss or any questions board members have and and go from there all right any questions you have i'd be happy to do my best to try and answer this evening and just to let the board and the community know this is not something we have to legally vote on but it's something that we can discuss and and if there you know any general uh changes we could make them but it's not something that we're actually taking action on is that correct um it's not an action

item on your agenda and i would um i'm just going to say something out loud here the more the profile is tinkered with the less it reflects the data that have been collected through the survey the focus groups the open forums the emails the conversations the phone calls i i do this often i do this a lot this is the company that i own and i've done we've done over 400 searches so yes i work for the board of education and for the princeton community but i believe through my experience would demonstrate that the profile that has been developed reflects the wishes of the community understood thank you all right daphna you want to start so thank you kevin um it was very interesting and i guess i'm i'm surprised at um like you said

that we have a very engaged community and so i was surprised about um that only roughly 400 people were engaged in this process and so i'm wondering um if that's your experience because that's a very very um we probably have 3 500 parents or so uh we have almost 400 teachers only seven teachers um responded to the survey so i'm just wondering um how short can we be um that this is representative of what our community wants and is this your is this the level of participation you typically get so good questions i don't think um especially in the in the world we live in now that this is atypical um i did one uh when covet started in march in michigan in grosse pointe michigan um just outside detroit very well to do community

um we had all kinds of open forums um about a dozen like you like you have and i had i think 117 people show up and less than 200 survey responses having said that the profile that emerged from that was very thematic in other words the different focus groups even though the numbers were low were fairly similar across the board and themes have emerged and patterns emerged i i find that similar to the princeton responses when you say how sure i can't put a number on that i feel confident based on my experience the the profile is an accurate profile but i i don't think the numbers that you find survey responses and focus group attendees and open forum attendees is necessarily a typical especially for a very engaged community like princeton thanks i'll jump

in with a question i know kevin i emailed with you about this there was an indication at the end that the person should make their home in princeton and i would just say perhaps we interpret that as the princeton area i know what is meant by that comment but i'm not sure if it's legal to require someone to live within this community or if it's realistic for us to require that of our candidates so i just throw that out to my colleagues we could add the word area after princeton the idea is that the person become part of this community i'm not sure if we want or require them to live within the bounds of this town just to respond quickly it wasn't uh i didn't hear that the person's home address had to be

within the zip codes or this district boundaries but that this person needs to be attached um a thousand percent to what princeton is yeah um so it's not so much geographic as as a passion kind of endeavor and if we can if you want me to rephrase that if you have suggestions for rephrasing to to meet that goal that's fine with me that doesn't change as far as i'm concerned the profile if go ahead jess do you have another question well if we say the princeton area would that would that keep the tenor the same of the comment it just may be interpreted from can by candidates as needing to live within this town i mean that would be very nice if they could yeah it would be great if there are some districts there

are some districts betsy that put you know um whatever uh chicago preferred chicago area preferred um instead of you know whatever but we can soften the language a little bit um just on the conversations i've had with candidates thus far asking questions finding out more about princeton whatever i don't see that anyone would not apply because the district wants somebody who's who resides close to where they work they're going to want to do that anyway right and i know they're required by law to live in new jersey unless they have we're not going to have someone a few states right waiver so i would i would say if we could say princeton area that would that would be great for me and i know other people must have other comments got it okay thanks very

much jess go ahead thanks so um i was interested kevin that um vision and strategic plan ended up in the challenge section of the profile i i think we have i think what's generally considered to be a pretty compelling vision and we've been operating under a strategic plan um that happens to be at a point where it's going to be re do i i just did you have any sense of exactly what's meant by by having that as a challenge is it just that we are now at a point where the strategic plan needs to be rewritten by the next superintendent is that the way you uh i i want to say this as politely as i can there are some [Music] respondents both survey wise and open forum and focus group wise who feel

that the vision is lacking not well communicated and not well executed i'm going to say that out loud every anybody who wants to can disagree but i'm reporting what i heard yeah no i i appreciate i think communication is something that i think it is very clearly noted there and i i think that's what we're talking about so i appreciate that michelle thanks thank you kevin um i i appreciate this information and i actually think it's spot on this is my question there's and there's an outward facing um part of the job and then there's an inward facing part of the job with the outward facing being of course dealing working with the community and and and sort of being the chief communicator and then there's the internal part of the job that oversees our

educational program and our facilities and kind of all these broad things and so my question for you is as as you look at this input or as you were receiving this information were there any glaring omissions were there in your experience in doing this did you say wow nobody said this or nobody mentioned this or did you find it to be pretty comprehensive so thank you for that key question and it's here's my thing i've been doing this so long and i hope i've learned at each step that i don't go into these conversations thinking i hope they ask this i really expect them to answer this way i try to keep my bias at the door before i walk in the room and so i try not to ask that question i could share

with you you know down the road or whatever the last eight to ten profiles i've written yours is different from the one i did before and theirs is different from the one i did before but i gotta tell you once i'm done and the superintendent is hired i leave it aside and i try to open the window and listen to the voices so i i the simple answer is no i didn't hear anything i expected to hear because i really try not to expect anything specific i hope that answers your question it does you sound reluctant is there a better is it i didn't like the answer but is that your answer that's your answer how about another slant on that did you find anything that came out of this that was kind of surprising

or unusual compared to the other profiles of similarly situated districts no i don't think so no leadership challenges or leadership challenges in my opinion um the climate culture specific challenges including you know the the the demographic shifts the building um attention needs to take place um those things are princeton specific and may not be found in other places um but nothing no no one's no one said anything that that had me jump out of my chair you know what i'm saying it did nothing really oh my god i didn't see that coming no i i didn't get i i never had that response to any of the res to i never had that reaction to any responses okay can i follow up on that kevin maybe i'm messing it just a little bit differently but

kind of the same general topic is do you see anything from your experience in the profile that would um scare a top candidate away is there anything that we as the board should be aware of that might you know give people fear and trepidation about coming here and conversely is there anything there that was unusual that would draw them in i mean you mentioned you know the positive things obviously and i'm not asking you to reiterate those but anything specific on either side of that of course our candidates could be watching too so he may not want to tell them what will scare them i away i wouldn't uh peter i wouldn't use the word scare but get pause the the nature of the high performance of the princeton district and community will be a

challenge for whomever walks through those doors the person needs to be ready to take on that challenge what i'm saying to you is not surprising but um so some average superintendent is not going to be successful here and so if that gives pause to some candidates that's okay by me because i don't want to bring him forward to you anyway and by the way the canada pool um doesn't reflect that you've got a really well-rounded strong slate at least at this point you do any other any other questions so kevin i would just add one comment to anybody who might be listening uh that according to state data princeton public schools is blessed with the highest peer pupil spending in the state of 97 school districts in its peer group only two abbott districts which

are low-income districts unable to sustain themselves through property taxes have higher spending and they're supported 85 to 90 percent by the state so if you exclude those two abbot districts our peer pupil spending uh that our budget is based upon is the highest in our peer group and that includes a lot of really really high performing school districts and new jersey is one of the top states in the country so um you know that outstanding candidate is going to have a lot to work with when i uh just so you know i teach um people trying to get their doctorates and be superintendents and i always tell them new jersey's one of the top two in the nation as far as outcomes for students and spending on students so those data are relatively close to

my heart and and candidates will know that going on thank you for sharing that welcome thank you all right if there are no other questions are there any other questions did i see daphna no um i do think just stepping back a second for the public so again kevin right where we are in this process is we have retained your firm to do the search for us you're developing the the outline of the the candidates what we're looking for you're going to put together a slate for us you're coming back november 17th with the is that the first i i don't have my calendar in front of me that could be accurate i'm sorry um that's okay and and just giving of oh you know 20 000 foot view of this so we're going to

have some candidates we hope by the end of the year and we'll do some interviewing and we hope we're able to then find it find the right match and which we then would hire we hope and to start working with us on july 1st of um and we in the interim are very happy to have uh superintendent barry galasso uh working with us as our interim so we we are definitely you know we continue to move forward and serve our students but this is a process it's one of the most impressive important processes that this board can do and so we're kind of engaged in this dual track we're running the district and we're also looking for our permanent leader uh that we hope will remain with us for a longer period of time let

me just make a quick quick thank you elizabeth and matt and barry and many others at the district have been very supportive of this effort quietly but efficiently and professionally and i'm very very grateful for their help thank you kevin and on behalf of the board i would i would also like to thank betsy baglio who helped coordinate all of those focus groups which was a lot of work so betsy thank you for all of your um liaison work there thank you all betsy always does it with a smile too guys usually thank you it's very important yeah and so kevin i also want to thank you you have your email out on our website you welcome members of the public our staff and board members to contact you directly so i encourage people to

continue to do that this process is ongoing and thank you for being so open about that thank you very much and uh betsy will someone at the district post the last page of that report on your website just so there's transparency there yes well we actually have the whole report um on our board documents but we will post that on the superintendent search it's just the last page the superintendent the profile is the key element there okay great we'll make sure that's up thanks kevin have a great evening folks thank you very much good night thanks for joining us good night um i think that takes us to the next item still in the board president's report is which is the superintendent job description um betsy would you uh leave us that as well thank

you a few quick words about this so um the board certainly knows and many members of the public know we've been working on this for a long time it's really interesting actually to be voting on this job description after we hear what our community has put together about what our ideal profile of a superintendent is but the job description is um is that's exactly what it is we have we worked on many many drafts there were five of us who did a lot of that we brought it out to the full board the last uh board meeting we have sort of a semi-final draft board members i want to thank you for your very thoughtful comments everyone is really truly engaged in this work and i think that the final document that you have in

front of us i think it's a very good one and represents all of our voices and i i think that's great so debbie and i sort of took the comments debbie's the chair of personnel she and i took the comments from board members met together and and added them into the document um and then sent it back to everyone we haven't heard any comments from anyone this week about about any changes to this if there are comments feel free to talk about them now okay hearing none we've we've worked on this a long time so i'm glad i'm glad beth you're on mute i'm sorry i'm giving i'm doing all yeah i think we should just do a motion first and then we can have further discussion and vote so is there any thank you

promotion on the item of g3 the superintendent job description betsy the second uh daphna thank you and now any further discussion before we vote i had one one quick question yeah i forgot to to email you about this i apologize but in the at the very end at the terms of employment it says 12 months but appointed for a period of three to five years i was wondering if you could explain that for everyone i think that language came from njsba um i assume that that is what our former superintendent's contract was that it was renewable correct but that it was there was a term of employment but every year there was an evaluation but perhaps barry you may be the one who knows the most about this yeah i i think it's a standard

language it's a boilerplate language which which indicates that you can give up to a three to five year contract but on an annual basis there are uh evaluation criteria settling the goals set on the goal setting standards by the board and the new superintendent and the evaluation instrument that will be used great thank you are there any other items to discuss again i want to thank everyone as well it was really a collaborative process and and uh i appreciated that we were all able to kind of really focus on it and think about what it is that we need and and want from a superintendent and also look at models from other districts so i think we came up with a very nice um document at the end comprehensive if there are no further discussion

then can i ask for um a call of the call of the vote yes beth baron yes dan dart yes jess deutsch yes betsy bagley yes brian mcdonnell yes michelle tuck ponder yes peter katz yes daphne kendall yes susan cantor yes motion passes thank you um and before we uh hand it over to barry i want to make one more comment to our student reps the reason we put you guys up at the front of the meeting is because we are all parents and we know that you have a lot of work as seniors and if you need to leave the meeting at any time uh it is not considered rude you should just drop off and leave us we always want to you hear from you at the beginning of the meeting but we

know that our meetings tend to run on so anytime you guys feel like you need to go just go and and don't worry uh we understand and we actually hope you don't stay with us too long because we know you have lots to do [Music] so great well thank you and good evening everyone uh just to once again congratulate josh and maya as student reps we had an opportunity to meet with their advisor and principal baxter a week ago and they really will make a wonderful contribution and they're great representatives of phs students so congratulations and we look forward to having you here every month um a couple of things uh and i'll be quick tonight because we did take a few minutes with kevin uh for that important work but the grand acceptance uh

windows and mirrors the racial literacy path to equity uh really important and i want to um thank valerie olark for her work on this grant um four months ago we told the board that we were going to apply for three grants we were hoping that a a funder would help us with our a number of issues that we were dealing with from from connectivity to child care and now to the third piece we implemented a pre-k in one literacy program and this proposal will improve the classroom culture for all students by cultivating educators who are racially literate count of their own implicit bias and continually engage in the exploration of their own identity this is important work uh we thank the funder and i would recommend that the board of education accept uh the generosity

of this particular grant because it really works well with uh uh the projects that we have put in place for this current school year um so i do we want a motion in it do we have to accept this i have that as consent there okay you have any consent side okay thanks matt and then under superintendent's comments um i want to highlight one of our teachers you know our teachers have done a tremendous amount of work with regard to both the remote learning and also the hybrid model and it's really not easy to do it's very difficult to do and i want to highlight one of our teachers tonight mr lee who is a math teacher at pooms middle school and we're we're not going to share tonight but we are going to put

it up on our website uh a five minute lesson that we videotape with the students and him using multiple projectors because we need to get some student permission uh granted and as soon as we do that we'll put it up on our website elizabeth collier will do that but tonight we're going to show uh one of the youtubes that mr lee has developed and we're not going to show it in this entirety but we're going to provide the link because it is 21 minutes long and i want to show about three or four minutes just to highlight mr lee in the outstanding job that he does as a teacher lesson on dividing fractions if you need to check out my fraction basics video or my multiplying fractions video they'll both be helpful in helping you

understand this video here in this lesson i'll go over the steps on how to divide fractions and what reciprocals are and how to use them then i'll go through some examples on how to divide fractions with proper and improper fractions next i'll go over dividing mixed numbers and whole numbers then i'll go into showing you some division fraction models and how to represent them visually and i'll end the video with some application word problems let's get into it let's go over some important bits of information before we start some examples first it's important to understand that when dividing fractions we're going to convert all whole numbers and mixed numbers into improper fractions if you see a whole number like four we're gonna have to convert it into an improper fraction like four over one and

if you see a mixed number like two and two thirds you're gonna have to remember to convert that into something like eight over three second we're gonna have to rewrite all division problems as a multiplication problem as an easy way to remember this process we're going to call it keep change and flip the keep refers to keeping the first fraction the same the change refers to the fact that we're going to change each division problem into a multiplication problem and the flip means to reciprocate or flip the fraction after the operation if you had a division problem like four-fifths divided by six-sevenths you would rewrite it as four-fifths multiplied by seven-sixths here's the keep here's the change and here's the flip once you've rewritten the division problem as a multiplication problem just multiply as you

typically would here we're going to multiply the fractions but we're going to look to cross cancel if we can here we can see that 4 and 6 have a common factor of 2 and we divide by that we get 2 and 3. now that the tops and bottoms are relatively prime we can multiply 2 times 7 to get 14 in the numerator and multiply 5 times 3 to get 15 in the denominator well i know it's a little bit strange at first the algorithm for dividing fractions really looks like multiplying fractions instead dividing two fractions is equivalent to multiplying the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction consider if you're dividing two by one half what is this question really asking us remember division is asking us how many times the second number

one half fits inside the first number which is two imagine you had two cupcakes and you cut them into half size pieces how many pieces would you have if you're thinking four you're absolutely right good job let's see if the algorithm checks out though since two is a whole number we can rewrite it as an improper fraction two over one we're going to keep that one we're going to change the division sign into a multiplication sign and we're gonna flip or find the reciprocal of one half which is two over one now that's a multiplication problem we could do two times two which is four and one times one which is one four over one is just four seems to check out please keep in mind that i'll be using the word flip and reciprocate

or reciprocal interchangeably when i say flip i'm really saying to write the reciprocal the reciprocal of a number or expression is a number that multiplies by the original to equal one for example the reciprocal for 1 6 is just going to be 6 wholes we know that 1 6 and 6 are reciprocals because if you multiply 1 6 by 6 wholes you get 1. also the reciprocal of 7 would be 1 7. the reason is if we take 7 or 7 wholes and multiply that by 1 7 we do get one whole if you have a mixed number like four and one half you can convert that into an improper fraction which is nine halves the reciprocal for nine halves would simply be two ninths this makes sense because if you take four and one-half

and multiply that by two-ninths that also equals one that's how reciprocals work now that we've gone over a little bit of background let's try some examples together in example one we're going to practice dividing proper and improper fractions in this first example we have four fifths matt okay thanks matt thank you i just wanted to highlight uh some of the talent of some of the teachers and i think when you see his uh video that we'll put online and we ask the public to do that uh over the next week uh you will see the the talent and creativity of mr lee i first met him in july when he called me and and we had a long conversation he is uh pursuing his doctorate uh degree i hope we don't lose him after he

receives his doctorate but uh he is pursuing that and actually we're assisting him in collecting some data for that degree uh he's an engaging teacher uh who motivates students and uh is uh exemplary in his in his teaching performance and he really uh symbolized the type of teacher in the princeton school system that i have come across and had the pleasure of getting to know over these last four months so i want to congratulate mr lee i want to thank him and you know i noticed that matt was paying extreme attention to uh the improper fraction so i hope matt that you picked up on something here tonight to help you and your ba work so uh thanks mr lee for uh for for allowing us to view your video link tonight and elizabeth over

the next week or so we will have that actual five-minute clip of him teaching in his classroom using multiple devices a very talented person and once again thank you for allowing us to share a little bit of your knowledge tonight with that uh president bien i am completing my report tonight okay thank you superintendent glosso i think that that would then take us on to so we did the consent item that's that's already went through so i think we're on to the public forum is that correct yes okay um so we are now on to our public forum we ask that um individuals state your name and address and you keep your comments to three minutes um and you can raise your hand in the chat and put on the button on your screen and

mr bolden will call on you malachi wood hi can you hear me yes okay great this is malachi wood um i'm a resident longview drive a parent with two kids at pums an alumnus and a teacher at the high school um first of all i wanted to welcome yash and maya if they're still here um big fan i love your letter um i wanted to follow up on a letter that i sent to the board on the 19th that i really didn't get a meaningful response from um slightly modified but i wanted to know everybody's personal view on forcing teachers to make a terrible choice returning to a situation that exposes them students and everyone's families to unnecessary risk or to take an unpaid leave of absence with no health insurance personally i live with

individuals who are at risk of severe complications from covid19 and in truth no one knows who will suffer death or long-term health effects from the disease unfortunately i'm not in a position where i can go without salary or health insurance i'm witnessing the anxiety and fear that pps employees are feeling and i've honestly never seen anything as dire in my 15 years here we expect board of education members to look out for everyone's interests but this policy will do long lasting damage to morale and health if there are employees who are comfortable with the risk returning into the building we should let them but do not force more people into the building to create an environment that is less safe we know that there were positive cases at phs this past week but we don't

know who we don't know where they were and what part of the building they were in and that causes stress just walking into the building personally fills me with dread and if it's safe for us to meet in person why is the board meeting online i've read the board um in the responses for asking for an accommodation the board is not legally required to grant accommodations but i want a board and this is for kevin too and a superintendent who work from empathy compassion and safety not ones who are willing to put others at risk because legally they are allowed to in my 15 years at phs i've seen harmony and i've seen disagreement between the board of education and its employees this is the first time i've witnessed a disregard for life and livelihood

of teachers faculty and staff please change this policy and show us that you do value your teachers faculty and staff thank you for listening thank you you were cutting out there are are you done um yeah i was cutting out does that mean that you did not hear me we did hear you no we were very uh last team okay no i have finished but thank you for checking thank you mr wood xiaobing lee hi um good evening everyone my name is sheldon lee i have two kids one in phs the other one in palms [Music] first of all i want to express my gratitude for the board members district administrators and school staffs for their diligence to open the school make sure the safety measure is implemented and i know there's a lot of

work involved however from what happened in these three weeks i think we are under tremendous pressure for all of the students teachers and families um given all these incidents happened ever since we started three weeks ago with k21 students um i don't i think whoever is listening there as a parent if you count how many emails you have been receiving with the subject line of what that uh important health information i did a little bit count i think we receive at least 10 of them from all over the place all over the street district and if you count in the number of days the students are back to school for k to one they back to school in total um i think how many days 13 days for two to five they back to school

for nine days and for phs they only back to school for four days and we already have incidents every single week and this week the middle school started only for two days we don't know what's going to happen for the next three to four months now we are heading to winter and with this um information i want to state the fact that these are not just impacting one class one teacher it's for phi situation we're impacting 1600 students they just started a 8 20 school start time for four days five days now they're switching back to night training and it costs so much interruption in the you know for the family they have to do all these different schedules if they have multiple kids in this in the household and they have to deal with

multiple schedules and we want to instill a routine for the students but we have we have been actually interrupting their routines i understand there are um families there are concerns about the mental health issue uh i totally understand but i think we should do more uh focused um service or um teaching to those students instead of having other families getting the uh getting through the unnecessary mental strength um and to think about the teachers today i mean this this week phs has to go to all remote because we don't have enough teachers to be present in the school this is only for one case of a two i think a true staff member testified um i'm sorry um we restrict our um comments to three minutes so we as many people as possible can talk

so if you could um wrap up your comments we'd really appreciate it okay so as a conclusion i think uh if we can re-evaluate our current situation and think if the current hybrid mode is this still the best interest for other families which i don't think so and if we can provide more um robust plan for the school district going forward thank you thank you thank you are there any other speakers raise your hand if you want to speak i don't oh judy yes hello judy clinton thank you uh my name is judy clinton i live on magnolia lane i have two daughters at the high school and one who started yesterday at palms and i just want to say thank you a million times to mr burr to all of the staff to the

board of ed and everybody it was my for my young sixth grader it was the most two most glorious days for her and i i have to say thank you she was so nervous and yet every day even if we have to close for a couple weeks come what may she got two days in and i look forward to a week here god a few weeks here a few weeks there whatever it takes i and i want to just say thank you i i really appreciate it and i know it's not easy but again we parents and i think the majority of us are very very grateful so thank you thank you very much kim cherry hi i'm chip cherry um i just want to say i know you have a very tough job going

on right now and i think we all do in terms of our own uh personal life we're all balancing things and um sometimes people have asked me well why am i out and around whereas most of the time i'm on zoom or not out and around but in order to sort of stay sane in order to stay connected to the world you have to have some interaction and i know the kids really need this badly and so i think it's a matter of risk and uh and how you minimize risk and maybe that's one of the things that isn't quite getting communicated to the parents uh maybe how the school system is minimizing risk isn't quite getting through maybe there's some procedures that could be used to enhance the minimizing of risk and so i

was on my way to a meeting with someone who was giving me a special ride and she said why are you speaking don't you know the virus can be passed around if you speak more and you could just stay silent and i said but i feel like we need to interact you're driving me around and i i feel like you know it's a human thing to do we have to have that side we have to be human to each other and so i just want to use that as a tiny example and but i do think that possibly uh communication uh might be a lot more of the answer and uh to be really clear with the kids as to what they're supposed to do in terms of wearing a mask and when are they

supposed to wash or not wash and all that sort of thing thank you very much thank you kip thank you i see no other speakers okay um thank you all for for speaking um i think matt you may have noted to me in the comment that we missed the hib um item up front do you want to do that now before we get into the board reports uh no i i texted it is a consent oh it's a consent item okay great could you make it an action item please sure thanks so i guess we'll do it now i guess we'll do it um can i have a motion and and we don't is it in the agenda am i missing it uh it's it's up on near the top it was right after we

got into there it is it was in a funny spot okay um could i have a motion if we're making this an action item for the um the acceptance of the superintendent's hiv decision for the two cases uh listed uh that were presented in the closed session yes daphna motion have a second peter thank you any discussion um could you please call the role mr bolden beth barron yes betsy bagley yes debbie bro uh dan dart yes jess deutsch yes susan cantor yes daphne candle brian mcdonald yes michelle talk ponder yes uh yes as to number one abstainism number two motion passes okay motion passes okay then we're going to jump back down to j1 which is board committee highlights and the first committee would be equity michelle tuck ponder okay i think i reported

on this at the last board meeting our last equity committee meeting was monday october 12th and we had two speakers um carol walked walked her from the bay at russian center and thomas foley and jen simon from saga at pums which is sexuality and gender alliance and they had um they made a great presentation bayard rustin um carol talked about the different programs they have and their interest in partnering with our schools to provide services and programming to our lgbtq ia students and other students in the community quite frankly they have a broad portfolio of programming and they do work all around um mercer county and i think beyond and um tom foley and um and jen simon um talked about how they got started with the gender and sexuality alliance at the middle school

and some of the activities that they've been involved in they talked about school climate um and so it was it was a great meeting i certainly learned a lot um i'm glad we got them in we they were originally scheduled to come and talk to the committee back in march and now um so we just made it up this past month and um the committee is also continuing to work on our equity impact analysis we had um some very enlightening discussion we have a subcommittee which met last night and some very interesting and enlightening discussion about how we craft the policy that is going to be that's going to send a message around equity across governance the job that we do as board members and also administration and how we manage our staff and our

teachers um to embrace equity from an asset based perspective as opposed to a deficit based perspective so stay tuned thank you michelle um any questions the next next one i did i just wanted to thank michelle for um you know finally uh you know letting us address not finally but for bringing in um saga and talking really about um gay lesbian transgender issues um i thought it was a very good conversation and i think meaningful action will result from it for um you know our kids who are lgbtq so thank you michelle thank you daphne um then we have personnel and debbie's not with us does anyone else have a report from her um i'll just briefly say personnel um met for an hour um and we discussed i did send her an email hold

on okay um uh personnel met for an hour uh last thursday uh we discussed epes um uh the eps uh non-athletic epes a lot of the eps are going to go forward some like before after library or morning bethlehem homes will not um and the meeting lasted an hour and uh we just went over some uh confidential personnel matters thank you thank you for jumping in there um policy with peter katz uh thanks we met on friday october 16th uh via zoom uh and we discussed the policies that we have on the agenda uh under k uh for uh which are both for our second reading the conduct discipline uh policy 5131 and uh the technology uh amendment which i think is a minor amendment to uh policy uh to a regulation i guess we

that we uh passed back in august and thank you everyone for your comments on the conduct discipline uh policy 5131 that we've incorporated many of those into this final version and that was all we discussed thank you peter um then we go to student achievement betsy thank you i think there's a few others too that we jumped over but i'm happy to go right now um the student achievement committee met on friday october 23rd the meeting was open to the public we were on zoom uh beth was there as well as dan susan daphne and i uh jessica baxter was joined us the phs principal and shared the planning for a new restorative justice council that's being implemented at phs student staff and community members will work with phs administration to help make the school

more equitable for all students and they will be trained by dr tara doty of sage wellness group uh and they will also then help to fill facilitate restorative circles as needed in the school dr christina donovan shared with the committee the work of the school counseling department throughout the pandemic students and counselors are meeting live and on zoom social emotional learning lessons are ongoing at the elementary level there's a new ep that counselors are running at the middle school level and college counseling is ongoing and has actually added short additional check-ins on friday afternoons she spoke about how staff have been trained to identify and report covid related traumas christine also shared a number of activities that staff members have engaged in to bring students together in fun and engaging ways such as trivia at

the middle school senior sunrise at the high school food service director kaylee dixon attended student achievement to update the committee on the food delivery that has taken place for our students since monday march 16th the process has been streamlined and the district is consistently now providing meals to 400 children weekly over the past months neutral service partnered with shop and with princeton university to help provide student additional food for our students and we'll great we're grateful to them donna braden our transportation coordinator has worked with kaylee to arrange transportation of the meals which now occurs on wednesdays we're grateful that's the worth to the work of so many for helping to provide this critical service to our children um just so that the public knows federal and state governments are providing this entire school year

free breakfast and lunch meals to all students during the 2021 school year due to the pandemic sac members encouraged outreach by each school to let all families know about this opportunity and i wanted to be sure to do so this evening if there are families watching or if you know of families who would benefit from food delivery it is again open to everyone not just families who fall within the free and reduced lunch threshold please contact your school's main office and ask to speak with the principal and you will be added to the delivery list so we thank them for that work valerie ulrich attended to share an update on our 2020 summer school programs 16 of our students approximately 500 kids participated in at least one summer program and about 90 staff members were

employed these programs included support for struggling students acceleration for students who are seeking that support for recent immigrant science program for underrepresented students and iep driven programs mickey christophule runs all special education programs and valerie runs all non-special education programs and they work together on this planning for summer programs begins in january so we will return to this topic early in 2021 to discuss how to best meet the needs of all of our students whose education has been disrupted due to covid finally valerie updated the committee on recent grants to support students at this time these include funding for free internet funding for ymca remote learning care at pinella and crimman centers there are actually additional spots available for that and funding for additional racial literacy programs and trainings the committee is very appreciative of

grant funding and would happily hear updates regarding new grant funded programs at any time the next student achievement meeting is scheduled for friday november 13th at 11 30 and we invite and encourage the public to attend thank you betsy anyone have questions um then we go to i guess do we have a negotiations report daphna i know yes briefly um on tonight's agenda is um uh another vote on the contract uh there's two amendments um which i sent you all an email about one is to clarify that teachers can take up to seven percent of per seven percent of personal days without administrative uh approval and after the seven percent uh the the hr um assistant superintendent has the discretion to um allow additional staff to take personal days in extraordinary circumstances and the second

uh change was uh to the um staff tuition rates for their students a tier had been missing and there was a revision to dates putting those new tuition rates as had been negotiated in effect as of july 1. and those are the only two changes thank you and the teachers have signed their have signed the agreement is signed by them and so we prove it tonight then we would sign it and be done absolutely and um there the teachers um haven't gotten their increases which goes back to september first so um you know that's why uh dr galasso um asked them to sign it so tomorrow um you can sign it and then we can implement uh the pay increases thank you thank you for that um i'll just note that the finance and facilities

committee will be meeting on monday uh the upcoming monday so we do not have a report tonight from them um that takes us to policies um k1 is an action item could i have a motion for the approval of the policies that are on the uh first up for secondary tonight peter in a second uh uh brian thank you and now is there any discussion of the policies we have um 5131 and 351.4 4.1 so um i had um emailed some concerns about and uh some of them were addressed and i guess my basic concern right now is that um where we're at let's go five uh page three e three uh where it says ensure that the code of student conduct is applied equitably learning uh disability is not included um in that and

i think it should be and and it has been with our other policies as a defining characteristic um also under um students with disabilities it says that classified students are subject to the same disciplinary procedures as non-disabled students and may be disciplined in accordance with their iep and accommodation plans as i'm aware iep and 504 plans don't discuss discipline they're documents in place to support the student so that is not correct and those were my only two points does anyone want to speak to those i i guess is so you your first point is three e on page three it would yes and i did send an email oh yeah we didn't all get copies of that unfortunately so yep it's hard for us to address that um well i i i had asked other

questions as well and i wasn't responded to so i actually had asked um this policy is much better than it was but i had asked actually what is required um by law um we're you know we're focusing so much on equity and restorative justice that um you know a policy like this um doesn't seem to align uh with our you know mission so can i just i'm looking at the language you're talking about section 3e e3 which says ensure sure the code of conduct is applied equitably and it talks about physical physical or sensory disability or any other distinction characteristic what is missing there for you uh learning disability so in other places we have also learning disability in the in the language in addition in other similar um other similar um policies we have

put that in because um when with regard to being implemented equitably uh the fact that a child has a learning disability i understand i i understand do we want to add that in there does that make sense i think it might i think so i don't have a problem with putting that in no thank you see where that is i'm good with that yeah matt could you would make that adjustment that's um matt it's on page three e three page three e3 i see it right here yeah and it would just need to be added in we could approve it with that edition okay thank you and daphne your second point you mean that ieps and 504 plans do not um provide directions regarding discipline right not so what word would you change there it's

not in accordance with the iep it's in um i'm sorry where are we where we're on page seven now page seven students with disabilities maybe considering um with consideration for their ieps what about consideration of their disabilities as laid out within the document yep that makes sense um where is it on page seven so it's under students with disabilities oh i see yes second line understood abilities so in accordance with instead of in consideration of in consideration of their disability because there's no discipline set out in 504 plant yes okay matt does that make sense you have that uh it could just be and maybe discipline with um disciplined taking their disability asset forth and iep and accommodation plans into account sorry what about just in consideration maybe i mean i think the intent here

is that that a student not be correct improperly disciplined because of their yeah i think i think i think they're interpreting that that paragraph wrong what i think what it's saying is classified students are subject to same disciplinary procedures as a stat as non-disabled students and may be disciplined in accordance with but we have to in other words if there was a manifestation determination to be made if they're the iep and the accommodation plan could prevent that discipline from occurring that's the way i read that yeah but um that is the that is the guiding principle when we have a student who happens to be classified you have to take into consideration the disability and whether or not that had any effect yeah but that doesn't say that well i hear you barry but it

doesn't it ended there when you read it from you know when you when i read it as a practicing administrator that's what i read i'm reading that classified students are subject to the same disciplinary action unless the iep or the accommodation plan indicates that this may be a the action could have been caused by the youngster's classification you know it doesn't say that though it says in a court it just says the discipline it doesn't say uh with consideration it says in accordance an ip and it doesn't lay out discipline so if our goal is to ensure that a student's disabilities take into account before they're disciplined that doesn't say that and that's that's what i would like the next sentence says however before disciplining a classified student it must be determined that the student's

behavior is not primarily caused by the disability and that the program that is being provided meets the student's needs right that's what i'm saying i think maybe it may be it may be a little bit uh it may not read as well as it should but the point of the matter is i think as any practicing administrator would look at this and read the a and b and say i have to take into account the youngster's iep accommodation plan to be sure that whatever they were involved in is not a result of their of their disability and i'm i'm speaking with some history which is why i'm focusing on this so i would like it to say that in black and white so there's no room for interpretation that a child's disability so it shouldn't

say discipline in accordance it almost is like the iep allows it yeah well maybe accordance isn't the right word maybe it may be disciplined upon consideration of the disability set forth duration of the iep and accommodation plan how about of the disability set forth in just to be clear just to be clear disabilities yeah i mean i i i don't have any issue with it because i know how it's going to be interpreted thank you barry so is everyone comfortable with that modification okay read it to me so i can look at that yep um disciplined and after discipline may be disciplined how does it go after that in consideration of is that what you agreed in consideration of the disability of the disabilities set forth so in consideration of the disabilities set fourth in

the eye set forth in the iep or and accommodation plans yep thank you thank you everyone appreciate your patience michelle um daphne also raised another issue and and if this was dismissed and i didn't hear it great but we um when we talk about termination of a student at in our schools we have graduated early withdrawal are suspended or expelled or terminate enrollment at school for any other reason suspension usually means you're coming back so is the policy the intent of the policy that while you're suspended that your device is taken and then when you come back it's returned i would just appreciate some clarity around that too we're on 30 you just moved to 35 14 right okay yeah i did okay so are we done with 5131 can we do that first yeah

yeah okay we're finished there and then we're going to get ahead 35 14.1 and the question there was what section was that michelle that is all the way at the end i think it's page 12 and 14 and 14. right definitely use this first but yeah because i i didn't catch it so but i want to make sure we didn't overlook it thank you and that would be on page 12 matt h at the top gh first line has suspended in there and that may be the intent to take the student's device if they're suspended i'm just i'm looking for clarity yeah i'm trying to find what you're uh page 12 12 very pitch 12 this is that at the top is at the top okay the students should receive no h next one o

h i'm sorry students who graduate early withdrawal are suspended or expelled they're terminating enrollment at school for any other reason must return their school first electronic device and the day determination yeah i i the way i read it if a student graduates early he's turning or she's turning in their computer if they withdrawal they're doing the same thing if they are suspended they're not because they're coming back the expelled student may or may not keep the device depending upon you know you just can't expel a student and they and they don't they don't receive uh education so they're either going to be placed at at some instructional alternative school or they're going to be um home instructed or homeschooled or something so but i think the intent of the h is is once enrollment is

terminated permanently terminated the device is returned so the suspension shouldn't be there excuse me so suspension shouldn't be in there it'd be there because suspension suspension is a period of time three days four days five days okay so there would be a mistake you can take that out and then it where is it again on page 12 and page 14. yeah at the end of 14 right last last not even a paragraph similar language repeat it again so you can make the same fix yeah that shouldn't be there no it shouldn't be there because suspended kids could catch and expelled are are they're not released or terminated yeah i mean we want to take away in the case of a suspension a student should still be learning right okay so we got that one is

there any other yet issues are there any other discussion items on this one no um okay so if there's no further discussion can we then take a vote yes dan dart yes just deutsch yes etsy baguio yes ryan mcdonald yes michelle talk ponder yes peter cats yes kendall yes susan cantor yes motion passes thank you that takes us to item l personnel l1 and now i'm going to go through whether consent items oh this is an action item that's the priya contract okay so the first item l1 could i have a motion please for ratification of the pre-contract daphna that's consent but we can make that a action item if you want oh it is a consent okay i believe it unless anyone wants it to be action no let's just leave it consent then

sorry that's okay um okay l2 retirements congratulations and there are three people retiring and that's 76 years of work in our district and the only one i know on the list is mrs dunham congratulations to her but to to all three of them as well thank you betsy for slowing us down and having us take recognition thank you um l3 appointments l4 personnel items transfers reassignments l6 resignation l7 resolution to create new positions l8 reappointment l9 student services l10 sixth period comp l 11 leaps of absence 12 non-athletic ep es 13 substitutes that takes us to m and one educational placement and two educational placement of homeless people and one financial reports and two comprehensive maintenance plan and three emergent purchase of bid threshold and four change order authorization and five non-public security aid and

six resolution award warning bid and execution of a master tax exempt lease and seven capital lease reimbursement and that brings us to the consent vote can i have a motion please daphna second michelle and call the roll please that's baron yes dan dart yes jess deutsch yes betsy bagwell yes brian mcdonald yes michelle talk ponder yes your cats yes staff the candle yes susan canton yes consent agenda passes thank you that brings us to public comment uh the second public comment of tonight's meeting again same uh guidelines please state your name and address keep it to three minutes we'd like to give everyone a chance if anyone would like to speak they can raise their hand and mr bolden will call on them i don't see anybody with their hands raised okay that takes us

to um item queue one our closing section and here i think we wanted to quickly discuss this writing a letter um in opposition to senate bill 2843 and i believe we wanted to just register our opposition to this action that was happening that would give tenure to athletic coaches um did anyone want to speak to that we had been advised by the um school board association that this was happening and that it would not be helpful to the board it would take away our um discretion to deal with personnel items that normally are um in the discretion of the board and so is there we were going to take a resolution to send a letter do we know who's pushing this like it's a really odd you know thing for the state senate to take

up on as far as like whose local school boards give tenure to so do you know like any of the background just barrier and mute i do not oh it's very soft very hassle sorry about that i put myself a mute so i would imagine it would be you know coaching positions over these you know the renewal of coaches is an annual people and teachers and coaches do not have tenure i would imagine there have been some cases over the years that has njaa pushing the legislature to provide some security for coaches i'm sure that in their opinion some boards have treated coaches inappropriately so they're looking for more protection for people who you know who coach athletics and you know when you coach athletics you're going to have your supporters and you're going to

have your detractors and sometimes detractors are able to [Music] cause coaches to lose their position so i would just think that this is an association uh move to try to protect coaches long term thank you all right thank you um if there's no further discussion um could we call a vote on this matt you need a motion in a second can i just ask a question i i believe that we did this before um and i guess we can do it again um but i i i think what we're actually doing is just sending something very similar to what we sent before just looked it up there was a previous bill so it must have been an identical bill in the last session so if it's a new bill then we should it was linked

i looked up the link on that the legislature was linked to a uh previous bill did we have an assembly version and a senate version that's probably what occurred yeah right so the senate version is s2843 all right okay so can we have a motion thank you brian in a second uh dan thank you any further discussion again we did we did have a similar discussion i think it was probably about four months ago when the first with this first came up so here we are again but i think it helps for us to register our our opinion so if there's no further discussion could we have a a rule for approval or bath baron yes and art yes yes yeah betsy bagley yes ryan mcdonald yes michelle talk ponder yes your cats yes michael

campbell yes susan k yes motion passes thank you and if we have no further business um could i have a motion to adjourn daphna a second job you guys have to think about it i know all in favor raise your hand please um motion passed michelle we can't see your hand can't see my hand unanimous end of meeting thank you very much everyone have a good evening good night good night you
