Is that yours or is that mine that you borrowed and I need to get back and now? >> No, I mean you put it all together. I hope so. >> Yeah. No, I'm missing [laughter] I would have made one, but I said a lot of one. So, at least they have a form. I was worried because I Rachel. >> No, Rachel's out of town. So, Betar is here and Kim is here. Finally. Everybody go back to school. Yeah, I do. just like you can introduce. Okay. >> I must have had some kind of >> big sister for being the champ. There's too many to write them all. Like they're forever. >> I don't I don't see you like >> I I I don't know. It looked like you were on a mission. Well, I was
had to be a >> middle That's John. John. It's funny how man so much they're all it's simple. I do. >> You don't. Okay. You know, he was in the same room that I just on the other side. >> That same room on the other side of the wall. >> Yes. >> I just I turned it on, but she saw >> [laughter] >> stand. Approval of minutes. Board of Education meeting. Motion to approve the minutes of December 15th, 2025. Board of Education meeting. Motion by Sarah. Second by Chris. Any discussions, questions? All in favor? Oppos? CSC. That should [cough] everything into your packets. Um, a motion to accept the CSC CPSC 504 report. Motion by Kim. Oh, sorry. Second by Minister. Any questions on that? All in favor? >> I oppose. Abstain. Agenda changes. Do
we have any agenda changes? >> We do. Um we have um a cancellation of presentation and I believe that will be so if we could move the record. I think that's um next meeting. March. >> March. Yes. Um and then if we could put on for item F under items for discussion and action the appointment of Peter Chesky as a third fourth grade elementary basketball coach um for the JCA contract. And then G under the same uh motion to appoint the law one as the 56 elementary gas filter for the contract. And then eight items for discussion to appoint elementary program. Um, all right. So, we have items for discussion or action. >> financial. >> Oh, all right. Nice. Financial. We have the general fund expenditures, the school lunch expenditures, and the lunch reports. Stephanie,
do you have anything? We've also had issues with fuel. Are we getting that? >> Yep. >> And is that because we have a good friend? Um, you know, I think there's a closure. It's just the realization that you can't have the generators uh or the boilers on a thousand gallons or less. That was not that famous. Um, so we thought we had plenty of fuel. We did not. And so we are looking at the vendor. the vendor has done what they needed to do with this kind of just so vendor business which is also connected to the bus. >> Okay. visitors comments. Um, we have anybody want to say anything? >> I'll jump up at once. >> All right. Items for discussion end or act now. presentations. I'm sorry. >> Okay, presentations. We have art
Rachel. >> Thank you not last. >> And then a tree. >> Sorry. Um, so I'm gonna have a presentation on art update going on the art department. Um, so I'm breaking this into three sections. So what's next? Um, so I'm going to touch on curriculum. I'm going to highlight some student work. Um what's new some update boxes and what's next? All right. So um curriculum is my basis. So, elementary, middle, and school art of um elements of art design. [cough] [clears throat] Um and then fallback. Um my current course right now is your photography section that um studio art. Um, and so I'm gonna go through all of these and post the year of it. So, um, the group book is also class trying to push them to be more apps and stuff so that
we have a good stuff to put into the group book. Um, with that I also develop and all that. So um each week or about each week we have a department assignment. So over here is the week um where we all cover this focusing on this. Um this is all studio artwork. So art is a general art class. So not like everything. I always start with some sort of black and white artwork. So that way we're only using one medium. Um this is Evan pencil. Um and then this is heavily on the company down here and all that stuff. And I feel like that's a really which some kids really struggle with realism really hard and I think it's good to show the other and then we just finished our painting in um um this
was a really fun project [clears throat] and we're only making the primary colors And then this is my game class which this game class is super students which is very work so hard. Um again we did the black and white one start over complicate the first project. We move on to a color and now we're doing a history project. So they have this realist drawing this year and then we did some water. Um this uh figure drawing was really cool for both underneath. I have them absolutely like in front of each other and they all have to sit and draw while they're closing for like five minutes incredibly funny watch [laughter] is actually just [laughter] and then I wanted to it would have been too much stuff to try to do every single grade for
elementary. Um, but I just want to show some stuff that I thought was quite exceptional that I had these two first graders. Um, drawing focusing on patterns down here. This is a fourth grade pretty. And then I believe this is also pretty. Okay. And then so I wanted to add some stuff to be outside of the classroom. So we all last spring had school. We were there most days. get this done. Um, but I was super happy. I wish I could have gotten more, but I was super happy with the work in my house. Um, this is an old one that I want to highlight to. Um, this was made by myself and I want it on my way to work every day at the fire department. Um, forever. All right. And then I had
the opportunity to work with some eighth graders this Halloween that way. So yeah, I guess um all right. So what's new? So I have been implementing more tab based um elementary classes. So tab is an artist which is more studentled um creative artwork that is have them art independently. So I've been doing more art station. So like having materials out wall teaching them about it. So they just kind of choose their own route to how they want to do it instead of just following a step-by-step project, which I still do because I find them. So I try to do a little a little bit of both. Um, and then I've been trying to put more artistry into my classes. Um, and I mentioned that personally. Um, so some cool stuff. So art shows coming up
the annual GPS. Um we will be competing again in the artery. The last time we had a final was4 um again last time we had a final get into the high exciting um finalist but open get this year and then I have two new ones that I want to hopefully participate in um last student elementary art show which is not um I just get to select some so I'm go there and then class 230 school. So that will be so um and then so what's next? So I'm going to become art history course next year um which is called history from like pop art. Um so that way kids don't get in this realism. I want to immediately try out different techniques and different styles. Um, and then I'm hoping that I could start doing
something called art spotlight on our parents um and um there um and then goals. I have a lot of kids asking about art. They want to have more art. Um and I know that some money after school activities project and then I also have had a complete list of time pretty short amount of time by the time I start doing it already up and this is all that works currently um but like art lesson how they set extra work on the project and this would only be a strong and then I really hope eventually these participant art competitions comments I'll start with comments Um I'm I'm always amazed at um the most well um you know I think one of the challenges is having high school um and I'm just going to tell the board
amazing job at um and I think that's that's the challenge but I just throw that out as you see the product. >> Yeah, I'm really impressed. Every time I come in and see the new stuff on the walling probably what's what I see you're very interested in. What do you think that? >> Um, a sense of pride and it's also like what we work for because like we have our art show, but it's kind of like all of the like competitions or like the shows that they do in the past. This is the only way that I have to really show the kids that are excelling and want to get into stuff like this. And it's also just this really big deal to be honest at like a gallery and stuff because it's not like
I can respond but someone looked at their stuff and thought it was good enough to be in a gallery like confidence with their art. >> I think so. Um, but I have to remind them that art is so that I can't I don't want their he said no, they get to put it in that horrifying and someone said yes because the jury is always Thank you. [laughter] Yeah, make sure you log. No, nobody else presentation with [laughter] >> Didn't we do snowmen? >> We did. That's actually [laughter] so when we talked about we met because we we monthly meet at our apartment and we talked about it now. He's like I don't know. I think we'll just kind of give them a quick update. I don't think anything but the snowman project we'll talk about
in just a second but Shannon >> and so we've got the whole team here today and we thought it was important to bring everybody just because this year's been a little bit different. Um we're all teaching um kind of something different this year that we typically have not or haven't in a while. So, um, we're kind of mixing in classes a little bit due to the schedule. So, it's been fun, but we've all gotten that little taste of, um, the one seventh grade this year. We all have the second grade. So, that's a big change for us here in the math program. But um seventh grade, eighth grade, uh we have an advanced math 8, algebra 1, and then we have a 1 A, one B, geometry, algeb. All right. So, we have a whole
range and again we can kind of switch around but the one thing that I wanted to talk about um officially is uh next generation standards have now made it all the way through algebra 2. So the progression that you might have seen that looks like this has been coming since like um 2018 I think is when they actually produced it but it is now officially in effect all to algebra 2. This June will be the first next generation algebra 2. So, we kind of made a full cycle yet again in the math world. Um, so with that, um, we're kind of looking at different things now that we've all seen a little taste of algebra and and what the next generation looks like for all of us that we're looking at mapping, doing some math
work and kind of getting ourselves together. But this year, for the first time, we all have algebra one, which is also new for us. Um and um Kathy and I met with the we a representative that is working with some um math looking at our math trades and everything that we we just had one meeting. We have some coming soon but that's kind of been on our way. But I wanted to talk we each picked one thing that we kind of wanted to just highlight a little bit. And the biggest thing that I know that has come up on on your level is AI and how it's kind of been um addressed or or looked at. And the one thing that I wanted to talk about is that thankfully Will um has been helping me
a lot as a teacher using AI in ways that I never thought of. and it was just kind of a neat way um that I just wanted to share really quick, but we're constantly looking for more problems, extra problems for practice or a problem just like this one with different numbers and such. And um just using a combination of I was using brisk I know we have brisk pro here but Cammy there's a program in Cammy that you can use but also our Gemini program. He showed me really some great wording to get exactly what I needed. And we've gone back and forth a handful of times on how AI can help us generate really great questions. And I feel like that's a lot. It's been a timesaver for me as a teacher trying to
find really great questions that fit exactly like this one. And you know, other than scratching out the number and reading a new number in there, um the wording has been really helpful. And I just wanted to highlight that because often times we actually had secondary book free and a couple of times I've been like, "Hey, can you come help me with this one? This is what I want." And he has pushed me to figure out how to tell AI exactly what I'm looking for. And we've done some regions questions that way. So practice some more practice regions questions with A2. There's only really one sample test out there. There's not much out there. So I'm looking for more examples. So that was just one way that I I hadn't really thought of and so Will
brought it up to me. So I just kind of wanted to use some but also an an example of how it's kind of getting used daily things that have saved me some time. Um and just wanted to check out some AI. >> Hi Rachel. I hope the lower grade math grade math and the algebra class at different level. Um this year with everyone using grade we realized that um I had kind of been creating and implementing and learning um that would really be helpful if we could share that. So we started a sharing guide in late spring last year where we started everything that I used um changes that made things that may not have worked with our skills or finding what you believe. Um, so we have access to all of that material together.
Um, we've been able to do that for seven minutes free and we all have one of each. Uh, so what that entails is putting all of our guided notes in there that we share so that our support staff, our team and special ed all have one uh similar curriculum. Um we can also come up with our completely so that if a student absent TAs um specialized teachers collaborate with students and it's really been helpful for our AIS program here this kid didn't do well in the test using some of the AI programs were able to increase these quickly to help them get kids ready to share between collaborating so much online. And speaking of that, in seventh grade this year, we've been able to do some collaborative projects like all together. Um, we did a
scale drawing unit and we had light scaled up a real size and then we got some model play. Um, and all of our classes that kind of regul All right. And I'm Adam and uh I'm kind of all over the place. I'm teaching mostly in math at this point, but uh so I've got seven accelerated seven. So they're doing seven minutes at the same time. But uh what I wanted to focus on was uh our dual enrollment classes that we're doing. So over the last few years, we stopped from doing that through North Country Community College. And now all of our courses that are getting enrollment for credit are going through Sydney around. Um so with that originally we were doing um the last year we were doing uh two semesters top one followed by
top one calculate. So one of the things that's going to change going forward today is um finding finding a better mix for the students. Um the pre stay the same way that we have been but going forward. Um we have a semester of a semester of statute that we're looking at because it meets the needs of students better and more students are prepared for that right now. I know it wasn't exciting. I want to say how it's great to see the collaboration and the excitement you generate the students um as far as the college classes go. Have you heard from I know you had that panel coming in from alumni alumni. Um speaking from my own family, I know that it was very helpful to take those college courses here have to do that at
college. So, I'm hoping that's what you're hearing and that they even pass that along to the upcoming seniors and um and also I want to shout out Shannon that little project you did in financial math with the song. That's >> that was another Christmas idea that they created. I shared with um Sarah Fry as part of it um that they took a Christmas song and we worked the lyrics to incorporate some ideas that we've been working with. It was the last day and um they surprised me with a they had dancing, they had a ukulele, they wanted [laughter] me to record. I mean, it was like and I sent a little note to our our um company to say like you've been, you know, if you do anything with this, but I had a really
great project. So, I gave it to them. I gave the the description of what we did. I don't know. Nothing. I haven't heard that. But it was super cute and they did completely on their own. It was great. >> I I just want to say it's funny. I'm looking at the three of you and I um see our math department is probably one of our newest departments yet on the other hand one of our most experienced departments from other places and coming in and building other knowledge. Um and and as you sit with that the growth I've seen and the change I've seen in the last you know several years. Um I'm interested in as we dig deeper into that both these data and seeing the collaboration where that could take us. What is your
goal after? So you have a you have a baseline right now and they're starting. What is your goal about the full math department with your curriculum and mapping and what are you hoping for? you know, that we Okay, I don't have anything perfectly canned because I did not we did not come up with a a a mission statement for the year, but the thing that comes up every single time is we are definitely looking for um 100% of our passing rate, which accomplishment. Um well since the program has been initiated with two different we had a very few years where we had very exciting um this year we did not so that has been our overall that has been our overall goal and also we talked about the mastery reaching that seems to be that
next level that we're working. But those are our two that we talk about regularly, but I didn't have a canned like prepared statement for you, but that's what that's what our math meetings consist of. That's how we can get there. We also about trying to fill the gap every year. Not only is trying to support what they need to get them into the algebra without the gap that we have here. trying to find nice >> and I can certainly say that the math department chair when they come for their meeting with administration is very organized and very um ready with what they >> [laughter] >> I think that was a compliment and we're all uh very organized. So it helps when the rest is items for discussion and action. Motion to approve the girls modified
soccer merger with Northw School for the 2026 2027 school year. Motion by Sarah, second by Chris. Any questions? Um I'm just going to So if you remember we talked about this two or three maybe four meetings ago and we are ready obviously the varsity bills. Um North Warren has asked us to do the modified um and the real question comes into is next year the numbers are going to be on the high side for modified. Um my thought is that North Horn is there and asking now I don't know if they didn't have a team next year or enough team you know would they could they knock on spring or golden or some other door um so personally even though I think we will have for a year um I think it's something that we
should consider um and it is quickly into the near future our numbers are going to drastically um and will be needed and John will not have enough. So I I recommend that we do look at this very seriously now to figure out the high numbers. I will say soccer I feel is one of the sports that you have the ability to have higher numbers and still have everyone active um especially on the modified level but >> we don't have any issues with transportation >> again North has offered um especially because with soccer normally the modified universities travel together so they have offered the same for next year. Everyone remembers that way to build the program is hard. I thought The coaches did a great job last year coordinating, communicating. Um, and it seemed to be
a pretty just from a observer going to the games going together. I normally do not have his comments but anyway you Sure. All in favor. Motion to accept the 2024 2025 auto corrective action plan. Motion by Chris. Second by Kim. Any discussion? Stephanie, I don't know if you want this this significant less. All >> in favor? I Please. Okay. Motion to accept the 2024 2025 extracurricular audit corrective action. >> Motion by Melissa. Second by Sarah. Anybody on that? >> All in favor? I motion to accept the resignation of Paulairs as head of buildings and grounds effective June 30th, 2026. Have the understanding that if our placement is hired before that date, he will leave early. >> Motion by Sarah. >> Second by Chris. I just want to say thank you to Paul for jumping in
and you know really hard and you did a great job and I'm very grateful that you and I'm just going to add I talked with Paul today and Paul just wanted to make sure that um Kathy and I both knew that this wasn't a I want to be done tomorrow. This really is a you know my plan was to be till the end of the year but if you do go out and a good candidate comes forward I don't want you to not move forward in that position. So again, this is troubling me that this wasn't undone. It's just opening the door to all even though I'm all in favor. [laughter] Sorry. Motion's carry. Motion to accept Mary Cooper's letter of intent to retire effective June 30th, 2026. Motion by Chris J. Second by Sarah
Williams. >> Definitely with gratitude. Mary has worked with us now in mostly in the elementary, but Mary is one of those um aids that if it's something during the day, she's there to do it. If it's the chaperon at night, she's there to do it. If it's we have buses that we are doing a go home early drill and we need someone back at school in case a kid comes back, she'll stay. Um pretty much whatever we ask Mary to do either within her job or outside, Mary has offered to do it. Definitely. I I think Heather, you would agree with that because I know you're the one that has knocked on that door. >> All in favor? >> I motion to appoint Peter Olishes as the third fourth grade elementary basketball coach as per
the JCSTA contract for the 202526 school year. Motion by Sarah, second by Kim. >> Um I I will just say Peter has stepped forward. Um again we are we are struggling somewhat finding elementary basketball or just coaches put it up there. Um and he really graciously step forward and they need to fill that condition. All in favor? Motion to appoint Eli Morren as the 56th grade elementary basketball coach as per the JCSTA contract for the 2025 2026 school year. motion. >> Motion by Sarah, >> second by Kim. >> Here, I'll just say I'm really excited to see a young adult um come forward in year one and become active in our athletics program. Um I I I think Eli helped out in the soccer program. Um and now with the basketball all in favor motion
to appoint Aaron Chambers and Jake Sour Jones volunteer coaches for the elementary basketball program for the 2025 2026 school Motion by Sarah, second by Kim. >> But this is exactly what we want to see. You have the varsity coach and the modified coach offering to help out with the elementary program. That's becoming a program. I hope in the future we see more and more of this where you see those names going When do the kids do their practices when they're going? Nothing that's going to interfere with >> It'll be a mess. It will be We don't have a lot of um gym time. Um it will be up to Ally and Aaron to put in figure out Saturdays. Um it'll it'll be a mess and so we'll have to roll up a little bit of
Okay. All in >> favor. Now we have another um No, first I'll start off by saying the collaboration Regardless of school, Another great point Thank you. Summer. Thank you. I'm excited. I saw I think another comment >> [cough] >> Um, you know, I really didn't. >> Yes. >> Hi. Welcome. Thank you for welcoming back. Glad to be here. I want to thank Kathy for bringing me up to speed on this over the last six months. I think I'm back in the swim. Um, I'd like to report on our um little uh archery uh qualifier that we had yesterday. We uh three schools were a part of it, us being one of them. And um we had some great results. Um 24 JCS archers were participating. 16 of them improved on their personal test and 13
of them qualified for the state tournament sold in March. So they're off and great stuff. Um and let's see also coming up next week we have four days of regions. We have 22 students taking five different regions. So we're ready for January regions. >> You know I did want to transition. I I just wanted to bring the full board up. I had an opportunity to talk to a couple board members. Um but obviously we are now in the middle of a transition. Um great to have Heather's back. So I we had kind of planned for the first week to two Kathy has spent a little more time in the principal's office when we head her up to speed of where we are, what we're doing. Um and then toward the end of this week, um
Kathy's spending more time down in the superintendent office and we also like next week she's going to be more into that role. Um, we did talk to a majority of the staff and let them know that um, don't quite right now look at the person, look at the position that you might have the question for or the office and go to that office or with the question deal with the situation, the question, whatever it is. Um but I feel within the school I I don't feel a lot of anxiety. That's one of the things I think the board was concerned and wanted to try to prevent some and I think we have done a nice job by how to roll out. Um so so far >> [laughter] >> No, it's been it's been smooth. I
mean, so many things. Yeah. I think with a lot of changes coming up >> and I think the one person not has also worked in surprise. >> Absolutely. She certainly was carrying that position even just a lot of people who just working things different. So I kind of like to thank the board for looking ahead and trying to figure this time out. Um, so far I think reports met tonight and we're still looking at the budget. We're waiting on solid numbers from the state so we can come up with some concrete numbers but right now it's waiting for them student board member for um use I normally not anything stupid and bad happen. So that's good. >> Are you student government? >> Yes, I'm the president. >> So we are trying to organize some stuff
right now. We met today after school. Um, couple years ago we had a what it's called the day what's that like a metal. >> So we're uh trying to get one of those hopefully this year. We didn't have one last year. So that is something that's kind of what we talked about at the meeting today. So >> yeah. Yeah. So we're hoping uh to do another one of those this year. stuff. We're talking with students, talking with teachers, trying to get, you know, teachers out there as well. But ultimately, it's on us to work together. So, maybe you can answer um I'm going to say obviously with my office, but how do you think the student body is working with change in the beginning of the year with again? Are are you feeling what they
got there? >> I think it's going pretty well. I haven't heard complain about anything. So, it's going pretty well. >> That's our hope. >> Other business. topics from last meeting. Upcoming dates January 19th is Martin's day of school. February 9th is the board of education meeting at 6 p.m. Motion to Sarah. [clears throat] >> Chris the second. All in favor? Hi. Good night everyone.
