003the SCS gymnasium [Music] great so we have three exciting presentations actually Four exciting presentations tonight um but I'm going to start with one that has this was happened recently that we were really excited about it as soon as the trip was over um I spoke to Mr DeRosa and asked him if he would be willing to present it at a board meeting and he jumped and gave me the quickest yes I've ever in my life um so I'm going to ask Mr DeRosa and crew to please talk about the experience you had in Hudson you come over to the microphone and then Mr Weisberg [Applause] thank you okay you just have to push the button and wait till the old-fashion mic turns away good evening Board of Education a few weeks ago Mrs Rose and

004I were here for asking for information to take our students on the hubs long run teen Institute weekend I'm happy to report that the report was that the trip was a success our group from Southampton were 30 of the 120 plus kids in attendance here tonight are our students to recap our trip first up is Brandon Perez hello first I want to say thank you so much to the board for having us and and asking for us to come out here definitely very glad to be talking about it but um I guess I guess when I first saw talking about is how when I first got there it was a little strange we got there and there was a bunch of other schools a bunch of other kids like tens of hundreds of other kids

005that we just didn't know at first and of course like meeting new people is always little like a little frightening at first but over time when you got to Newland know that we got to put the family group you started knowing them a lot more like there was kids from our community like Mattituck but then also kids from up Island like Lindenhurst and then even farther up you got the kids from the city kids from upstate and every single time a new school would come in you see new faces new communities and new cultures it's really cool but um probably one of the things that I really liked most about that trip and definitely I think anyone on this trip could say could a group me on is that it puts you out of your

006comfort zone it made you really talk when you weren't used to it made you open up the people who you didn't know because you knew that those same people shared those experiences and like different feelings with you and I think that was one of the coolest things about the trip and I think that's another big part of the trip that I really appreciated was how it dedicated self to the multiple Health mental emotional and physical like for instance one one example was they told us about how dietary dietary nutrition related to mental health and like At first I was like what and they actually explained it was actually really cool and so like that's small things that like kind of piled up over the over the weekend and kind of made it really cool but

007um like for instance for me um at the hug stress we got fun to a family group of multiple different kids and I had a kid I had more kids from Hampton Bays from madata from Lindenhurst and a kid from from the city and over time in those short two days we basically became family we shared our emotions we talked about our deepest stuff stuff like that because it made this trip fostered a family for you and I think that was probably the most amazing thing that could have been from this and I just really hope that in the future Saturday continues to do this because it was an amazing experience and definitely an amazing way to end my senior year so thank you next up is Daniela [Applause] good evening this weekend I enjoy

008all the different activities and experiences we have most of all I learned many values like cell respect and respecting our peers I also learned to be independent in how to be a leader for the first time and what the program is about another thing that I really enjoy about a trip is that I got to meet new people with different and amazing personalities also I enjoy this program because we were able to disconnect from electronics and social media and help and have face-to-face conversations and listen to everyone's different viewpoints online the most important was what we became a United family and we were able to share our ideas and opinions without judgment next up is foreign [Applause] school and I was fortunate enough to also be chosen as a student leader for this trip and

009I am up here to talk to you guys about the impact the family groups had on me a family group is a gathering of about 12 student participants from different schools an adult participants and a student and student leaders one of them being myself I was one of the only student leaders in my group While others had to I felt very anxious and overwhelmed knowing that I had to lead this group on myself though throughout the different times during the weekend where we all came together I felt myself become more vulnerable vulnerable and comfortable through all the group activities icebreakers and hugs I began to grow a special bond with my family group one which I felt very emotional leaving behind these new friends suddenly became an actual second family for me and even though

010even though it was in such a short amount of time as a senior I want my fellow younger students and my younger siblings to be able to get this experience and having to feel what I felt feelings of appreciation and acceptance in a non-judgmental environment a place where they can be comfortable and open up and break out of their shell and eventually blossom into a capable future leader the next up is Evan Simeone good evening my name is Emma and I'm also a senior I'm very grateful to be selected as one of the student leaders for this weekend retreat and I will discuss the impact of group sharing that was done during the two mornings and how it was affected for students to open up um so for about 45 minutes students were given the

011opportunity to come up in front of everyone and present items that held a significant meaning to them whether something he earned or something I was given to them so for example this was my special item that I brought to the trip this was the first watch that I ever received this watch was given to me by my grandfather who passed away about five years ago this is very meaningful to me as he is someone that I looked up to every day and I was my best friend um every night alarm goes off from the watch for about 20 seconds around 11 o'clock uh it always reminds me of him and his big loving personality along with his love for me and our whole family um so the first morning there were those who already felt

012comfortable enough to walk up and talk about their special objects without any hesitation as the day progressed going into family groups doing icebreakers team bonding activities and even more deep level communication I noticed a huge change those who are more shy and kept themselves decided to stand up on their own during the second morning share and present their item it goes to show how much of an impact the hugs has on certain people as this Retreat helps them finally break down their comfort zone and eventually open up to more people and opportunities both inside and outside of school thank you next up is Riley Herman [Applause] hello everyone my name is Riley and I'm a selected to be student leader alongside Daniella Vanessa and Evan I also felt nervous about leading an entire group of

013people through important activities but I've eventually realized that house would be the perfect place for me to grow as well as my classmates I got to practice communicating constructively with others on a deeper level than I was used to the activities allowed me to improve my emotional intelligence and reflect on what's important to me and how that may differ from my classmates as I leave for college next year I believe hugs has helped me improve the skills I need to grow socially and participate constructively in the classroom next up is Eric Mejia good evening I'm married and I participate in the trip to hugs I thank Miss Lopez and Mr Rosa very much for telling me about this trip to the Institute the most exciting thing that I like about this was when we had

014the family group and we were able to meet each other and get to know each other in the family group we took the time to go out and tell each other and tell other people I have the courage to say what we want to express to others mostly most importantly as part of palatina community I don't feel that as a group we are as involved in the school district was amazing opportunity to create a space where all Latinos feel welcome and part of the school Community I hope that there can be more programs like this so this it will leave tomorrow involvement from the Latinos next up is Ronald Brody [Applause] hi I'm Ronan Brady a junior at shs and I was fortunate enough to attend the hugs Retreat as well I would first like

015to thank you all so much for your time and consideration and uh if you're wondering what I'm wearing on my neck sorry this is my warm fuzzy necklace given to me at hugs you give someone a warm fuzzy to show your love and appreciation we'd now like to give you all a warm fuzzy for letting us go on this trip yes we don't usually get crops um so now uh putting what the hugs trip meant to me in just a couple words is truly a very difficult task I was fortunate enough to make new friends interact with new people and push myself out of my comfort zone most importantly because of the atmosphere hug provided I was able to share the difficulties I had been facing following my grandfather's passing I'm grateful for not only

016the opportunities hugs presented me but the things I learned not only about myself but about others as well I would like to thank Mr DeRosa Miss Lopez and everyone else that participated in the hugs Retreat uh you truly gave me a memory I will never forget uh thank you so much for listening to me and I hope you allow us to can you continue making uh life-changing memories thank you [Applause] hi everybody my name is lazarakis and I am a sophomore at Southampton I'm um but thank first of all thank you all for inviting us here and for your consideration um during this trip I was able to witness not only a change in myself but a change in other students uh the end of the year can be a difficult time for all of

017us there's a lot going on and you know between testing and our friends leaving or for the seniors moving away yourself I can just be a lot and I think that we all need it this weekend to reconnect with each other and meet other people and also disconnect from all the stress of school and even from our phones which was a really nice aspect of the trip that I don't think any of us were expecting when you're told that somebody's going to be taking your phone for a weekend especially when you're not with like your family or with all of your friends it can be a little jarring but for me at least it was a Break um and also we got to meet a really diverse group of people from across the island we're

018also really lucky to go to a school that is very diverse in and of itself and I'm grateful for this because I know that our school will support students mental health regardless of their socioeconomic status and I hope that the school district will continue to provide mental health opportunities like these for students thank you [Applause] thank you guys as you can see we have just a phenomenal group of kids this isn't everyone that even went on the trip and when Miss Lopez and I asked who wanted to speak everyone was chomping at the bin and we'll say a quick shout out to Sanaya Morris who has planned to speak but unfortunately got sick tonight and was unable to so I just want to take a second to point out our amazing adults Vanessa Lopez the

019Chacha Castillo Victoria Village Jenny Lorenzen Matt Emma and Andrew repeko who are behind us here who chaperone and participated in the field trip all the adults donated their time for the weekend from Friday after school to Sunday night as you can see this group has made up of first-year teachers and we all share the same philosophy of kids first for the adults it's a long weekend away in May away from their families and helping guide our students through social emotional activities we are here to help our students but to maintain momentum moving forward we hope to find not only funding for the trip itself but funding to compensate the chaperones for the weekend trips thank you all for having us here this was a great trip I can't stop talking about it still but thank

020you and have a great evening thank you all right one more thing okay so for this presentation there was a kind of told me to make a PowerPoint and I'm not going without this show so this is a quick recap of us I have been high school's trip to hugs in other words house Southampton got DeRosa which everyone saw told us that because DeRosa does not tell you you're going human [Laughter] so first off a quick description of hugs the hugs human understanding and girl Services Program is designed to address the diverse needs of Youth communities on Long Island which include alcohol and drug Trends substance misuse gambling societal pressures resilience team building leadership and empowerment all the stuff like that we talk about that and now but this song is tripped in just teaches

021about issues and Leadership it created families for us and a ton of memories so this is one of the events one of the things we did at the hooks where we wrote on a huge poster board how much stuff we loved about scientist and we just want to say sam hasn't had the most up on their poster we had so much stuff we had no room for anything else this is just a couple photos of everyone this is rolling in the manager over there get cuddly and all our student leaders over there on the charts [Music] there we go more pictures even more pictures because Christian enjoying his brownies over there more photos and we couldn't have done about our amazing adults who truly made our experience one to remember I want to say thank

022you to all the adults behind me of course they did so much for us so thank you and then loves hugs thank you [Applause] yeah if your crew just stay there for a second in case the board has any questions for you it's on um I just want to say that I don't want to admit how many years ago it was but I went without some with the Southampton I still have in a box somewhere my warm fuzzies and still keep in touch with a lot of the people that wait wait I'm glad that you all got to experience thank you you know one of the first things they told us was that Juni used to be one of the original at that house a long time ago I think it's just a reminder for

023the boarding before the board has any other questions any questions is um Mr DeRosa and came up with the idea of hugs after it wasn't included in the budget so there are no funds to to fun hugs so the students paid for themselves and The Chaperone did all volunteer our hope is that based on this experience we'll be able to find the funding for next year as Mr DeRosa asked to be able to continue this experience for other students to be able to have the same type of experience that you guys had so we thank you for that support numbers and the other questions any questions we just really thank you this is what this is all about and this is what we wanted this type of experience for students so to give up your

024weekend and for students this time of year to give up your weekend and actually do something that we think is good for you and to not have your phones for a weekend that's incredible we really thankful thanks thank you [Music] [Applause] so now we hope we don't clear the room because we have a couple business presentations we have to get through um we did ask we had a lot of activities that happened this year that were funded through some grant funding so Miss Martinez Fuentes um volunteered to actually come up with a presentation where she's going to tell you all that we were able to accomplish through grant funding this year and I've asked Miss Fuentes to um to come up to the microphone and again that's a very tough I wouldn't be a part

025of an adulthood sounds amazing I might need this so tonight I'll be presenting um on the use of grant funding so this is my second year um working with our brands and so just wanted to present a few things not all are accounted for but just some of the things that I've helped people received so the first grant is our school Improvement Grant would you um here at six sometimes understand so this is nicely supplemental funding for Target districts so I know that a couple of meetings ago there was a presentation on um our Intermediate School cited as a Target district and then what happens is that the district then becomes identified once you have one school that's identified and so the funds uh from this grant were directly connected to our skep and our

026decent program so those are our comprehensive plans one for our intermediate and one for district-wide just going to go into some of the things and this particular Grant was focusing on a black African-American community and our Shinnecock community so the first program that um we covered this year was our after-school program where we were able to the intermed school with Mr kobus we were able to hire four teachers on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday students would attend the after school program for an hour and a half and the focused areas were on reading and writing to be able to perform support students in these areas next we have our parent leadership Institute what we call pli this is actually our second year uh running this program um actually a little bit more than uh two years

027prior to that um there was an English language learner program that we started about four years ago but then we branched it off now that we had um for this year the stick Grand funding we expanded the program and so the program focused on education advocacy empowerment and Leadership skills for our parents and caretakers so we invited parents district-wide and so we had a cohort of parents who went through the program for 13 sessions on a Friday sat there for two and a half hours and basically learned from invited guests and learned from presentations that we provided them um we also had a guest speakers come from community-based organizations and so forth and so the program concluded with participates participants actually graduating from the program actually this past Friday which you see the picture there

028where they were able to present a community-based project so that they'll you know is their Vision to be able to give back to the community and we will be seeing those hopefully those projects come to fruition with the school district support and so the other piece is that obviously there was a cost for facilitators we had three different facilitators uh and we also had um Jackie Lam actually who was the volunteer for the program so we had um Jalen our student counselor at the Intermediate School um Sean Smith our PE teacher and also Janelle local one of our teachers at the intermediate school so they helped to facilitate and there was food and refreshments that were provided um as well and the grant covered that something else um that uh the Japan covered was actually

029transportation for college visits so there was a Cornell trip um that was um provided for Native American students so that was a collaboration with again the Cornell University and then there was a tour a college tour uh that this was actually presented a few months ago to the black girl magic College Tour which included visiting historically black colleges and universities and so forth until students had an opportunity to learn about these colleges and were able to speak to admission officers so again that that covered the cost of the transportation okay and then we had uh workshops presented by a consultant by the name of Frank cross and so these are just some of the topics that um he covered and they were topics that were provided to students faculty and parents on one day he

030would come and speak to our students and then tell faculty at a faculty meeting and then parents in the evening and these are just some of the topics that he covered on brain development parenting strategies how to support um the importance of supporting obviously children you know at the middle school age power of language and self-talk so that uh concludes just some of the pieces in regards to what we covered with the school Improvement Grant um another grant that I oversee is the title 3 l and immigrant funding two different grants so this funding is allocated to improve uh English language learner proficiency and also academic achievement or else and there's also the Immigrant funding that's allocated to provide supplemental instructional opportunities for immigrant Children and Youth and so one thing that we did cover

031this year is we actually partnered with um the language and literacy collaborative Lucia Roja came uh to our district all the way from California and worked actually with our cater for bilingual teachers and teaching assistants and she provided them high quality professional development provided them um supported us with curriculum and so forth again to be able to be well prepared for when we do uh teach students in Spanish so that was amazing to see you have some pictures where um Lucia actually went into classrooms and actually demo lessons for our teachers to be able to learn about strategies and then teachers were able to implement strategies in the classrooms at the learning program their teachers record another initiative that while we were able to cover through this grant funding was a Spanish home language arts

032curriculum writing sessions we've actually been meeting with our cater for bilingual teachers actually on Saturday we actually met last Saturday in our last session will be this upcoming Saturday we usually meet from 7 30 to 1 30. so basically what's done here is I helped to facilitate many lessons for our teachers in Spanish if we know anything about Homeland resorts in Spanish it is very difficult at times to be able to get curriculum that makes sense for districts right for your own District because we are not a Hampton base we're not in East Hampton we want to be able to tailored for our district so our teachers have been amazing at just creating scope and sequences curriculums and so forth and so looking at hunting units as well in Spanish translations that's a huge part

033of what the bilingual teacher does but time is needed so again this grant has been able to afford US time right for teachers to do this kind of work and aligning resources and books because unfortunately sometimes for the Spanish bilingual expert it's not just getting a nice little package as you do on the English side because it really doesn't exist as it does on the English side so there's an extra layer of work that doesn't need to be done and then other additional services are interpretations and um bilingual clerical supports or interpretations we were able to add an additional Day evening of service interpreter to be able to provide services at meetings such as the ones you see there just providing language access to parents in Spanish and then we also were able to cover

034bilingual clerical support for a bilingual after school program at the elementary school sometimes it was um very difficult to just because parents were calling and you just need someone because the students were on buses we just needed someone to be able to man the phones and to be able to help us um schedule kits for Masters and so forth so that's been very helpful again covering through ground funding another program that we had this year uh first time ever we actually collaborated with a community-based organization called uh they are a organization located in Patra and so they provided two different workshops one for parents which was called the Civic engagement and Leadership training and then there was another Workshop um session leadership training that our youth received both at our intermediate school and high school

035which was called the girls act so activists transforming and creating so the program again intended to um engage Latina women and girls in this case right but with advocacy empowerment tools and where they focused on civic participation engagement and they graduated you see there that they graduated from a program they attended seven sessions learn from facilitators and just to give you know an idea in regards to what some of this funding has covered um I know that certainly Dr Butcher and I have really been intentional about how we use our brand funding and just making sure that you know we are building Equity really that's what these grants are for when you use them and it's super important that we are intentional with what the needs are thank you great Anna so thank you so

036much for that and one of the things we're just talking about is um that some of the a lot of the experiences you just talked about were really valuable and now that some of the grants have been taken up taken away from us because we've no longer are at Target with school the question is how can we sustain some of the activities so I was telling the board president that we worked with Dr bocher you and I worked with sister um Van Gogh to make sure we built into our budget the cost of many of these activities yeah so um Mr Bingo and I met last week budget just to see how we can maintain some of these programs um and then we're going to speak with Miss Fuentes to see which programs we're going

037to be able to maintain and how we can maintain them um we have I and and I'm glad that was friends I said like we're looking intentionally at our grant money I think that for the first time this year when Miss Martin Miss gwentes and I sat down we intentionally planned out how every dollar was going to be spent um so you can see some of these new programs as well as you know just enhancing programs that already existed and you know our Essa grants are to be used so that we can um allow you know for fiscal transparency first of all how we're supporting our kids how to offer welcoming and affirming environments to kids um and allow all kids give them that Equity piece so that they can all demonstrate Proficiency in state

038standards and social and emotional learning so we're really intentional about how we spend this money and we're and I think I do want to highlight the fact that Miss Martinez Fuentes and Mr kobus had a very um collaborative and effective relationship when they really looked at the skip funds a few years ago so when Miss Martinez Fuentes took over this position um she really worked alongside Mr colbus for quite some time really deciding they have read a skep committee so that they could Target kids families professional development they were very intentional about how they planned this money to so um I think you really need to be proud of yourselves and happy for the kids because you really did make all this happen and um thank you so I think it's really impressive how many

039things in the last two years that the both of you have put into place that we can hopefully continue does the board have any questions for Anna of the Guardians great thank you so then the other half that Anna wears is as the Dei facilitator for our district so as part of the plan this year was at the end of each year in June is to give a report to the board of the community of where we are with the Dei plan so that's what Hannah is here to um her second presentation so I think and I'll be free because I know we have an amazing presentation coming up the sandwich between two amazing presentations so just as a reminder um the New York State Board of Regents uh they adopted a policy in 2021

040right that districts um were to engage in diversity equity and inclusion uh work and so you know a few years later you know just I want to provide an update in regards to where we are so the tenant for our work is really the basis of the cultural response of sustaining education framework so if this is a framework from New York State that we have followed as part of our di work so you'll see four bubbles there attached to the tree uh welcoming an affirming environment high expectations and reverse instruction inclusive curriculum and assessment right ongoing professional development and it's those four principles that have guided and continue to guide the work that we're currently doing so our priorities for this year just to recap um we're to ensure number one to ensure that all

041constituent groups are involved to promote positive relationships and create a welcoming environment to set high expectations and provide rigorous instruction with accountability through the implementation of inclusive curriculum instruction and assessments through a culture responsive and sustaining approach and the third priority is to provide the school Community with ongoing meaningful learning to reflect and challenge explicit implicit bias and prejudices in all its forms so just to cover some of the things priorities that we focused on for this year so there was a lot on our plan uh for this upcoming school year while there were things that we did accomplish there were things that we're still working towards right when we talk about diversity equity and inclusion um work it's not work that just happens in a year in two years right it is ongoing and

042it is worth where we need to reflect pivot shift and just think about how we're navigating our work as and as we continue to engage so just to cover some of the things that we did accomplish so the DI task force this was the second year where we met on a monthly basis we were making two hours on a month during the month and we would cover um things connected to di learning more about di initiatives and so forth studying data right um we also instituted this upcoming year for the first time ever GI building teams they met on a monthly basis with building principles Dei Liaisons and constituent groups around the table right to discuss the implementation of some of the Dei work within each of the buildings at each faculty meeting we had

04315-minute activities building principles had 15-minute activities and updates but they provided at each faculty meeting just to be able to bring everyone up to speed there was also an equity walk conducted in November um at each of the buildings where we were each tasked to attend the building that we weren't normally in and a whole team went out on the spot approach and basically conducted an equity work and just book Force just in the hallway physical spaces just in the hallways we could not walk into classrooms but just to see you know what we saw and noticed um and then policies were reviewed through the islands throughout the year um attempted policy academic eligibility parent engagement Greening ranking tax adoption and hiring those are ongoing because we still are looking at those two at the

044islands and we also um engage in professional development there were di intro trainings um that our faculty and staff receive both will continue next year we were not able to get to everyone we want to get to everyone by next year and so there were a few teachers and staff members that did attend that training during the day then there was a team that went out for some of our social studies teachers that went out to BOCES and received the training from the director of Di and teaching art history which we will continue next year and then we had a where's matter training uh focusing on language and how language Harms in particular focusing on the n-word and so that was connected um at the intermediate school and the high school and that will be

045ongoing for next year as well then there was implicit bias training that took place but just with one um cohort really our teacher leadership um members our main members who sat through this training and that'll be ongoing for next year for the rest of teachers and staff and so forth and then um we uh actually um partnered with Eastern traffic BOCES on curriculum audits throughout the islands our Ela team um has just had ongoing training on how to be able to do that looking through text and so forth and so that'll be training that is ongoing because you always want to be looking at curriculum you always want want to be adding and just auditing what we're doing so those are just some of the things that we um implemented uh this past year and

046this was another tool from nyset that was provided to us which is called the implementation roadmap so there are three phases to this work so this year we're engaged in phase one which is on raising awareness so again just some of the things that I mentioned right in regards to the PB that our district received putting the word out that we were engaging in this kind of work not that it's the first time that we have been engaged in because Dei has been going on right it's just that now we've put a name to it and Our intention like we've been using the word intentionally right trying to um do this work and for the next year we're moving into phase two which is building capacity and that's where you're going to see all that

047training happening right and really building capacity within our teachers staff in regards to when you're making decisions right it's based on looking through a DUI lens which is make a shot there's Equity within that right and phase three full implementation that's down the road right because this takes time it's a process change doesn't happen overnight and so for next year like I said we are moving towards phase two building capacity so there will be three Focus areas we are looking at focusing on restorative justice practices so that will include trauma informed practices looking at discipline and tying it to the restorative justice practices that are super important um we're going to have a student mentoring program uh at three levels I know that the elementary school have started some of this work already and then

048um we'll be looking to use some of our grant funding that I mentioned earlier to create some of these mentoring programs for the intermediate school and high school and for Focus 2 we're going to focus on professional development as I mentioned earlier so it'll be more DIY workshops implicit bias training the teaching hard history focusing on diversity and curriculum and this is a piece that we did not engage in this year that we definitely do need to engage in for this upcoming year and just providing informational sessions for our parents Guardians and community that is going to be important right because everyone needs to be in the know of the things that we are engaging in so we're looking to provide informational sessions for next year and then Focus three would be a data study

049and action plan so it's not just looking at data and just looking at it it's actually going through cycles of anchoring having data right looking having data meetings and making a plan and the action and that happens constantly it just doesn't happen three times a year you should always be engaging so we want to be able to build capacity in everyone so whether you are sitting at an administrative meeting looking at data whether you are sitting at a team leadership meeting looking at data whether we're sitting at the DI task force right there should be data plan action and it's using a framework because we want to be intentional about how we're using and really assessing what we're doing and so I guess the big question is that you know we've been asking ourselves is

050how does our di work continue to be supported sustained and accomplished throughout the 2023-2024 school year so again continue to applying with intention and plan in advance making sure that we schedule all professional development during the summer continue to work with an outside with outside Consultants like I mentioned earlier we have been partnering for the past two years with Eastern Southern BOCES um and then really this is a big one which we've had many conversations around it incorporate a dedicated consultant to support the unique needs of Southampton we are very unique and so we need someone right now currently Dr Butcher and I have been meeting uh with consultants and we have actually a meeting tomorrow in the afternoon with another consultant and really seeing who matches us right we don't need you to tell

051us what we need we want we want to tell you what we need and so we're looking for that in regards to who we're going to partner with and so you know we're looking forward to that because as we peel back the layers in regards to a lot of the work that we've been doing you know that there's a lot of work to be done when it comes to a diversity Equity inclusion in our district um and then the last thing is just using that framework that I told you about it's the important cycle for Equity right it's not just about looking at data coming up on a plan we need to be intentional about how we're looking at data and then coming up with a plan there is actually a framework for this kind

052of work so we'll be looking to using that framework and that is [Applause] okay I'm sorry now I'm just standing to stay there in case the board has any questions for you regarding the presentation I don't have any questions just wanted to thank Anna and all the committee members um for the commitment and dedication and participating in the conversations and the planning and just everything that the committee has done and also um all the staff and the Dei what do you call not the Committees but the task force the task force has um it is a monumental listening and and everyone and all perspectives and trying to find a way to move forward for the advice of the district so thank you for your efforts and Dr Rogers and we all agree committee thank you

053so much one more question uh thank you for your hard work on this so I'm just where you had building Liaisons and everything what was their input on this and did you ask them to help present this to this tonight I didn't ask them to help her done tonight but we did have a DI task force meeting last month at our di Liaisons were present with the exception of one and so there was impact input provided by the committee members who were president two out of the three liaison were present okay yeah and at the end of the meeting just just that everyone is aware so at these meetings we have presented the information um at that last meeting just like all other meetings there was input so we put chart paper around the room

054just to give input if I if you don't mind stop the drain if I could just go back to the slide these Focus areas were gathered from not just the one and done they were actually gathered from the many meetings that we had throughout the year and so whether if it was at the DI task force whether it was at the admin meeting right I'm taking notes of everything chart paper studying those with Dr batcha right and just having a culminating ideas in regards to some of the needs that we have within districts and so that's how we came up with these I did present these at the last di task force meeting with the several constituent groups and I guess let me just clarify who the constituents are represented around that table so they

055are administrators uh teachers parents uh faculty students yes thank you students are sitting around the table right and Gathering input so again at the last meeting there was try paper that was put around the room we shared us for um feedback uh everyone did have a conversation about this and just as every meeting right my last thing is always so we have a go ahead to move forward as a task force and so the provision was yes and so that's how we came up with this we do have one more DIY task force meeting next Tuesday and so we are going to lab we usually have a plan this past year we actually had uh just required planning that you can actually find on our website with those 3di priorities uh that I mentioned earlier

056and so for this upcoming meeting we're going to add obviously more meat to this in regards to how do we accomplish all of these Focus areas for the upcoming school year you're welcome thank you have a good evening [Applause] now I think the next presentation is something that's been four years in the making so we're kind of excited about this um we're going to present our tenure candidates to the Board of Education I'd actually like to start with Miss desiderio to cover the podium and um I think we're going to start with Miss decidario and Dr Fernandez with our first candidate okay I'm so excited first one up so we'd like to welcome Caitlin Hamilton would you please come up and join us here [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you for making loud at appropriate noises

057but I'm so excited so Caitlin Hamilton our graduates of Southampton School District [Applause] we then worked her way and decided to pursue a career and certification in the field of psychology so she went to SUNY Geneseo and received her bachelor's there at Geneseo in psychology as well as sociology she took that degree and went further to Alfred University where she earned her Master's in school psychology and also a certificate of advanced studies that wasn't suffice Caitlyn went on to Stony Brook University where she obtained her bcba which is not an easy task and she is also a board certified behavioral and analyst to name a few so caring Squad that wasn't suffice Caitlyn a lifelong learner and doer and amazing individual and professional went on to obtain her educational leadership certificate in not only School

058building Administration but School District administration um yeah and under a grant from New York State she also got involved in learning all there is about RTI which is response to intervention so that level of expertise has influenced a significant amount of impact on our children at the elementary school where hair input is completely involved in as far as instructional support teams um and she will be continuing helping us under Dr botcher's leadership to do an even a greater job aligning K-12 with our IST practices and approaches so that we're streamlining our efforts and having richer vibrant K-12 approach to help children who are on our radar without it becoming um a bigger issue she began her career then in Boston Massachusetts in an elementary school there where she stayed for four years before she came

059back to Long Island thank goodness um and she was working at the Smithtown as well as the Amagansett school districts where she stayed for a number of years prior to her coming here where we were able to hit lotto and Caitlin Hamilton joined our team here at Southampton Caitlyn worked as a uh her assignment was a school building psychologist at the elementary school and I think I was here for three days and I was like can I have her I'm taking her and Dr Foster fought with me and I was able to win that argument and I have uh the pleasure of working with Caitlin on the day-to-day and I could cry now because I'm going to get into the real okay let him know because she's amazing and she's so smart and yes she

060did all this and has these degrees but when you have that level of intellect coupled with that level of care about our families and the children that she takes care of and the leadership she has and running very difficult meetings CSC meetings are no walk in the park and she does it with including everybody's input especially the families making sure that everybody is fully informed before they leave especially our families and spends three days subsequent to each and every meeting making sure everything is followed up with because she's concerned about every detail that was mentioned noticed or recommended at those meetings and she deals with over 200 meetings and she does that I am not exaggerating she handles cses like no other I learned from Caitlyn she is a joy to work with because she

061is ready willing and able to do anything and all things possible um while also maintaining full support it's like she'll never let go of that elementary school she loves those babies and is dedicated to taking good care of the children there while also being a district-wide CSE chairperson Caitlin I just think the world of you and I'm so happy we're having this moment but it's not over yet because Dr Fernandez [Laughter] um but I just have to say it's been a pleasure to get to know you for two years it really is an absolute pleasure to have you during IST which I might be fighting for that for her um but the conversations working with you learning with you and I I you really your dedication your knowledge the information that you give we really

062couldn't run the meetings without you and I I do miss being able to brainstorm and just do what's best for a kid so it really is a pleasure um and an honor to recommend tenure for you tonight [Applause] thank you all right maybe in the back waiting in the back you know we found um we were the original Caitlin Squad the Caitlin supporters [Music] I'm going to be very brief you really said it all thank you so much Trisha um oh there we go um I'm so grateful for the opportunity that I had in working with you and I have learned so much from you so thank you um thank you to the Board of Education Dr Dino and Dr Batcher um Mr kobus Miss Navas Mr Nico um thank you um I'm so happy

063and grateful Community um Southampton you know it's my hometown I'm just so grateful to be here so thank you um and I look forward to many many more years to come thank you [Applause] I'm actually going to ask Miss um behalf [Laughter] Spirit of Dr song he has wrote on forbade on what we need to be like Brian we got this so at this time comma um he's different [Applause] so before joining our South Hampton family Kim had a connection to our school as she worked as a substance abuse counselor social worker through the Alternatives counseling services during that time all schools are facing a new wave of substance abuse issues due to the actions of Jewel and many other vaping companies as a substance abuse parent Camp was trained in a program called teen

064intervene which was assigned to serve as a prevention and Intervention Program for at-risk teens not soon after that Alternatives counseling had to close their doors as Southampton High School was seeking a new social worker to address the rising substance abuse and team mental health Wellness issues that were growing we knew right away the Kim was the right to fit for our school Kim was able to have a smooth transition into her new position as she already had a history of working with our school because of Kim's kind mild-mannered approach she was able to quickly develop very strong relationships with many of our students additionally Kim helped us break down barriers inclusive of the associated stigmas that prevented high school students from seeking help when needed she is always willing to go the extra mile to

065ensure that students needs are met and the teachers have the support that they need and administration this is why so many of our students and faculty actively seek him out for help winning when they need it Kim is a true asset to our school Community she has spent endless hours during the school day and well beyond that taking care of our students and family is this it is this and so much more that gives me doctors on and I mean a great pleasure to recommend Kim McLean Spellman potential foreign [Applause] responsibility and you know there's a lot of hidden gems here in Southampton and the work that Kim does so much of it is so private and so confidential that you're not privy to the half of it in terms of the um level of

066involvement support worry um attention to task and follow-up to make sure that the coordination of care is covered so can we really oh we're so deeply lovely to have you and these families who need support in times of stress of these children who need you desperately and have you and the way you handle it with Grace and care and the amount of time it takes to do Outreach and bring that out to reach within and share with staff what can be and know when to draw the line with protecting confidentially you do you make it look like it's a walk in the park thank you [Music] [Applause] mine's gonna just fix the mic I began um short and sweet just like thank you so much for this opportunity the day I walked into the school

067the first time with Alternatives I fell in love Dr Zahn was absolutely amazing and when she was here but I know his words and I know he definitely wrote that um Dr Dino it's been an amazing ride for me the last four years and I'm looking forward to all the changes and all the new things that we're going to be bringing hopefully um so thank you so much for your consideration and I am looking forward to a lifetime of loving my children in this school district and also you all thank you so much I'm not going to ask Mr Clovis and Miss Martinez Fuentes hard act to follow him so I'm going to do the best I can um I do want to say that for all of those that are being recommended tonight if

068you think about this um this entire cohort came in in the fall of 2019 into what was a regular school year right a typical school year and oh my goodness over the course of their four years how things have not been status quo they navigated unknowingly getting into this field uh without knowing what what covert would have done to the holes organization so so for all of you I'm just thinking that that's something we shall note and just really appreciate for all of our attendance I'm going to ask that Mrs have will happen please come [Applause] here so I am honored and privileged to present Mrs Pamela Halpin as a tenure candidate the Dr Dino and the Board of Education Mrs helvin is finishing up her fourth year as a bilingual elementary teacher at Southampton

069Intermediate School she holds New York City certifications in elementary education which is a tenure area additional certificates in special education one through six and bilingual education K-12 she receives her bachelor's degree from Cindy Cortland and Master's Degree for Metropolitan College and she is currently working towards set of certification in school building leadership Miss Jordan Pamela is a dynamic um sorry Mrs Health Miss Jordan she's still missed Jordan to many of us she's a dynamic and enthusiastic and involved member of The Faculty that has created excitement around our fifth and sixth grade dual language socialist program her approach in the classroom allowance for students to collaborate and work together regularly in addition to her dedication during the school day she spends countless hours after school and on the weekends coaching in both field hockey and Lacrosse

070and this year she also added and took on the role of a co-advisor for our Builders Club so Andrew bilingual educator someone who I overseen Mrs Halpin has the ability to effectively teach students who come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds she possesses the invaluable skill of Bridging the Gap between languages enabling students to navigate the curriculum with ease while embracing and celebrating their cultural identities something very difficult to do if I may add you know when it comes to that is the expertise that pamberly brings she goes above and beyond to create engaging lesson plans that cater to the individual needs of each student ensuring that every child has an equal opportunity to succeed she believes in the potential of every student Empower them to reach their full academic and personal potential it is

071for all the reasons that we have stated that I am recommending Mrs Pamela helping to you for continue in the area of Elementary education [Applause] [Music] [Applause] um I just want to say thank you so much I like Dustin said I started in September 2019 and went right into covid and as you guys all know covet years are like dog years so it felt like more than four years it's gone by very quick though um from the beginning everyone welcomed me like a family I made connections with my students other staff members and I'm very lucky to work with everyone in my ability and in the district thank you so much Dr Dinah on the board thank you all right then after college to stay there and I'm going to ask Miss Taylor cross please

072come to the podium [Applause] so I'm honored to be able to present Miss Taylor cross as a senior candidate this evening Miss cross is finishing up her fourth year as a school counselor at the intermediate school she holds the New York City certification in School counseling K-12 and additional certifications in mental health counseling Taylor earned her bachelor's degree from CUNY Hunter College and her first masters from CUNY Brooklyn College earned a second masters from Alfred University and is currently working towards full licensure for mental health counseling [Music] was a dedicated and thorough and involved member of the faculty and creative excitement for our five-year rotation counseling program which we're very fortunate to have thank you to the Board of Education uh she's built lasting relationships with students and families and have been cultivated for the

073last four years and is already very well underway in transitioning our eighth graders into their ninth grade freshman year for next year Taylor's exceptional organizational skills have been put to use this year as she prepared her students for her students transition to Southampton High School Taylor has worked closely with the counseling teams at the high school Tuckahoe school and families from other local schools to prepare for this transition I have no doubt that Taylor will do everything possible to ensure all incoming 9th grade students are well adjusted next fall I really enjoyed working with Taylor this past year and I fully support this 10-year recommendation [Applause] so it is for all the reasons stated that I am recommending Miss Taylor Crofts for tenure in the area of School counseling [Applause] I feel like I have

074Deja Vu it's been a couple four years but I'm filled with gratitude and joy as I you know recognize this special milestone in my career I'm so proud to be a part of the counseling team it's an amazing move to um and I'm thankful for the colleagues that I have met um and my friends and family watching on Zoom right now it has been a privilege to watch my students grow the last four years and be able to transition them to high school and it's been a private lunch um thank you to Martha and Justin for all your support um it's Spanish to mind Zone my professional growth um I want to say appreciation to Dr Dino the administration for creating this Loop I'm very proud of the work that we do and for giving

075me the opportunity to be part of it so I'm thrilled for this new chapter as a tenured school counselor I'm looking forward to forward to the many years to come in Southampton School District [Music] thank you and our final candidate was actually awarded tenure back this winter but um we didn't we invited him back up so he could actually meet the important person instead video [Applause] I just want to say there are challenges for our counselors you know their meeting uh they're they're with their families and students throughout but they're meeting a new set of faculty and kind of making new relations each year so there's a challenge there I think they made it in a great way in shy but I am honored and privileged to recognize Mr Jolly duraso as having received tenure

076in February of 2003. let's just start off assistant so he was also thinking of his fourth year as a council at sis he holds certifications in School counseling additional certifications in therapeutic crisis management and nutrition he received his bachelor's degree from Lincoln University Mrs arizao also holds graduate degrees from Patel University and buffalo University and is currently enrolled at Long Island University doctoral program [Music] so during his time in the district I have worked with Joe a in his role as a school counselor at the Intermediate School his commitment to working with students and families in the five-year accounts and looping model and the close relationships he's fostered with them is our Testament to the potential impact of the model and it's an Exemplar of how to how to navigate those five years I've been

077particularly impressed by his ability to be president at all buildings so in a time that I've worked with July he's been at both the high school Intermediate School and of course working with the elementary school to circle on Loop through so he's been in all different assets of that Loop and excelled at all three in addition to Commitment during uh during the school day he's obviously continuing all dedication outside the workday with rules as coach as homework Home Advisor and also running a School counseling program over the summer and really coordinating the entire civil program always open okay I also want to congratulate July again on his tenure recommendation Julie's dedication to his students and advocacy on their behalf as admirable July is a valued member of our counseling team and always willing to lend

078a helping hand especially with all things related to looping I think he knows it all um he's done it all I have enjoyed working with July this past year and I look forward to his continued success success with the Southampton school district and we are lucky to have him on our team [Applause] thank you today thank you everybody again um it was nice to be invited back it was time to be in person I did have a game to coach the uh that I did get tenure recommendation that that evening so it is nice to be here in person it's here everybody's face um but first off um again tonight is not really about me I'm here just kind of just getting a little bit of recognition uh but I do want to thank additional
