001All right, good evening East Hampton School Board. We're streaming this meeting on YouTube. This meeting is being recorded. Phone lines are open. You may begin. Thank you very much. I have a motion open. You make it. Second. Second. All in favor? Aye. Who's right to vote? Thank you all very much. And happy you enjoy your show, right? Thank you, sir. Um please help me congratulate this year's Suffern Zone award winners. Suffern Zone recognizes the top physical education and health student athletes in fifth grade, eighth grade, and when they become seniors. So, this year's recipients, we're going to go with our fifth graders first. Matthew Franko. Katie Wild. Yay, Katie. From our eighth graders, William Babinsky. And Maria Hildardo Muñez. These are our fifth graders and our eighth graders. Congratulations, guys. Good job. When you become

002a senior, it becomes a little bit more of a fanfare to think about the culmination of 12 years and the two the young man and the young woman that won this award are totally deserving of and both amazing people. First up is Leaves Copeland. And I don't see Haley here, Haley Welch. No Haley? Yes. Congratulations, guys. Nice job. Tell me what what criteria is you judge and award these people what they get. The people who award these young men and women are their physical education and health teachers. They vote on who they feel are the top students within the fifth grade, the eighth grade, and 12th grade. And it is a culmination. It is not just your fifth grade year. It's from kindergarten through five. And then when they get to the middle school, it's

003from six through eight. And then when they get to the high school, it's from nine through 12. It's an amazing amazing award and might be one of the top awards that we give out. Kathy, have you seen have you seen students in fifth grade get in eighth grade and eighth grade get in in high school? >> Actually, um an old retiree as Adam calls them quitters, and Ralph Nagliari, I had Ralph's son get it both in eighth grade and both his son and the female winner got in eighth grade and they both got a message. So it does happen and it's great. I actually have a a picture on my phone from that night. It's amazing. Wonderful. Okay, next up. Mr. Stern, please come stand here with me. Please. It's a lot of recognition. Um

004special recognition goes out to Charlie Stern. Charlie is this year's National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete representing East Hampton. He was awarded this amazing recognition on April 19th at the brunch at Melville. It was an amazing night. They um myself Mrs. uh Smith and Mr. Fine all got to be there to walk Charlie up. It was one of the highlights of my career. They just changed this to do that for these student athletes and it was it was awesome. It really was awesome. And I was mad to look at other kids in other districts that didn't have the support that we have here and it just goes without saying that this place is amazing. Okay, and our last part about Charlie is Do you queue it up, Luke? Here it is. This week's winner of the News

00512's Scholar-Athlete award sponsored by Four Leaf Federal Credit Union. Charlie spent three years as the class secretary. This year he moved up to why treasurer. He also dabbled in the body as co-founder of finance club and he is money on the football field. Money. of an afterthought into a playoff team. He's an all-division tight end and linebacker. His coach said Charlie was such good defender teams ran away from him on purpose. >> [laughter] >> And it's into him, pay the price. I mean if someone's like chirping you a little bit, yeah, you want to maybe hit him a little extra hard. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, that he I need a good contact. That's a great feeling. Talk to me, such a mild-mannered, very, well, you know, a nice kid, and then all of a sudden

006he gets on a football field and I, you know, a little switched, you know, switch and you know, he's a different, tough fighter. He was, you know, a competitive kid. In the classroom, Charlie used Stony Brook's School of Marine Scientists to study the effects of microplastics and algae growth in our local waters. He also led a project to remove all single-use plastics from the school cafeteria. He had the idea as a freshman and it took 3 years to pull off. But this year the school finally made the switch to reusable metal utensils. From my estimates of like our plastic consumption, we are preventing over 25,000 plastic utensils from going into the environment every year, which is very significant, especially because this program is going to continue year after year. Charlie also ran track for 3

007years and was the captain of that squad as well. And he founded a tutoring program and he volunteers at a food pantry. He's got a 98 GPA and like all of our winners, Charlie gets a $1,000 scholarship for Bethpage Federal Credit Union. I'm Kevin Hogan. Well, Charlie's standing here. News 12 picks these on their own. We nominate people and hundreds of nominees coming cuz there are some amazing, amazing student athletes in our communities on this island. He is one of 30 kids on Long Island to receive this award. That is huge. That is huge. So, I'm really proud of you, buddy. >> Thank you, Mr. President. If you need to announce that you can take pictures Staff, are you okay? So, I'm going to ask you for a moment. Can we get the the grooms

008and the youngs? Yes, the grooms and the youngs and Mr. you guys do not have to stay for the rest of the meeting. And congratulations to your parents as well. Yeah, well done. So great. Yeah, congratulations. >> [clears throat] >> Oh my god, but I got it. Yeah, okay. Maggie pizza. And then the two of Dylan and Catherine and Riley. Yeah, yes. Dylan and Riley. And Charlie. Dylan. Please, thank you. Good job, Sadie. He may have I don't Great, I remember I remember that. I can still hear people groaning from the from the the silver thing. >> [laughter] >> That's going well, though, right? >> Yes. Yeah, I think Yeah, yes. That's That's terrific. That was a big lift. Yeah, yeah. All right. So, now we're moving on to public comment. Does anybody here have

009a public comment? Is there some revisions made in the uh the consent agenda? Can I have a motion to accept the consent agenda? I'll make a motion. Second. Second. Any all in favor? Aye. Any opposed? And then let's skip to six. Second. Six six seven. Six seven. No, no. I'm trying to get there. There we All right, superintendent's report and recommendations. >> [clears throat] >> Uh item number one, recommend the board approve the instructional appointment of Jack Link, the position [clears throat] of English teacher seven through 12 effective September 22nd, 2026. Can I have a motion? Make a motion. Second. Discussion? Congratulations. Congratulations. Welcome. Well, we'll congratulate We got to vote on you still, but you know. >> [laughter] >> All in favor? 011year. Can I have a motion? Make a motion. Second. Any discussion? Bassoon and a clarinet popped again. Bassoon? Yes. >> That's >> [laughter] >> They were delivered today. We had a nice talk with the music on. It's very exciting. it. Yes. Very unique. It's not normal. It's not a normal looking one. I thought I'd see Ralph play that. All right. All in favor? Any opposed? Thank you very much. Yeah. All right. Sorry. Sorry. So, resolve that the Board of Education of the East Hampton Union Free School District hereby approves the memorandum of agreement with the East Hampton Teachers Association concerning retirement incentive and be it further resolved Board of Education hereby authorizes the President of the Board of Education to sign the memorandum of agreement on behalf of the Board of Education. Do I have

012a motion? >> I'll make a motion. Second. Discussion? Do you want to give a little tip? You know, uh I had a you know, few discussions over the years just looking at, you know, where some of the teachers are and we're looking at placing people down the road if the if if that is uh this incentive that would allow us more time to, you know, look at how we place staff and give staff more time to think about, you know, the next decisions in their their careers and uh it was a nice agreement that we were looking to modify with the teachers association. So, you know, it makes it a nice list. It's a and it's a two-year one. Okay. And just why it's a walk-on is it just take took a little bit of

013extra time to get everybody to get eyes on this. There were a few things that kind of came up along the way and we really wanted to get it on this board agenda so we can prepare for next year and it was important I mean, I don't think it changes the vote one way or another if we vote on it today or to the next board meeting. There's a lot going on. We wanted to get it out so that people can plan and that's the that's the idea if people if if the the teachers can plan, the district can plan as well and if we wait two more weeks or whatever it turns out to be, it's just a further setback for somebody to make up their mind what they want to do. It's not

014going to change anything, but I just want to clarify why it was a walk-on. Uh all in favor? I I I Any opposed? I'm going to give this one to Sam, right? Sam, you're going to read this resolution. Second walk-on. Yeah, second walk-on. >> And I'll explain just This is a second walk-on.
