roll call. >> Okay. >> All right. Good evening, Springs BOE. Uh, you guys are good to go. >> Thank you very much. Welcome everyone. Thank you for joining us tonight. We start with some roll call. >> Roll call. Eric Frederickson >> present. >> Emma Field Zack >> and Patrick Greyband and Dermit Quinn are not here. >> Right. All right. Let's stand for someone. What do we just at home and here this evening we have our first item is a public comment. This is for any comments uh on the agenda items only for tonight. Is there anyone calling in from home or present that would like to add some commentary? >> Oh, TV just let us know. >> Okay, we have we have no callers at this time. >> All right. So, if there's uh no
public comment for the agenda items only, we'll move to our consent agenda. I ask for a motion to approve items 3.1 to 3.10 on our consent agenda. Do I have a motion? >> Second. All those in favor? Any opposed? Motion carries. >> All right. Business and finance. Uh we'll move to this part. Uh, I ask for a motion to approve items 4.1 4.7 under business and finance items in our agenda. Do we have a motion? Second, John, can you review uh all of our business and finance items? Uh, items 4.1 to 4.5 are our regular monthly financial reports. Nothing has changed. We're looking good so far through November. 4.6 Six is our agreement with project most um to allow them to use our facilities for the afterchool program this year. And then 4.7 is the
approval to dispose of assets. We are disposing technology equipment. We have 182 Chromebooks that are no longer in service that needs to be provisioned. We replaced uh 24 PCs. Um we upgraded to the newer models. These were all seven plus years old. So >> and then that's it. >> Question business. >> So all those in favor of approving items uh 4.1 4.7 I suppose. No motion carries. Let's move to our superintendent report. Nancy. >> Okay. Um two things. I look at the people in the audience and I just want to mention two things. Um firstly is Tumi is um here because she's thankful that we recognized her prior tenure. Uh she had tenure previously and we reduced her probationary period from four to three years as required by New York state law. So uh we're
very happy to have her here and she's doing a fantastic job I must say. So um she's been a great addition uh to the spring school family. And then we have a new um person that we are appointing tonight and I see she's here with her family and we're very very very excited. Um her name is Alisa Bowen and she's going to be our new library media specialist and we're excited. Um thank you for coming so much this evening. Uh she'll be starting January 5th right here in our library and we're really excited that we found a local person. um her she and her family live in Southampton and we're excited for her to become a part of our family as well. So, we welcome you and very very excited uh to have you here.
>> It's not often you are in space. [laughter] Yeah. [laughter] >> And then just um a quick update. As I said, this is um unusual that we have such a quiet board meeting, but um it's the time of year we've had a lot going on and people are uh really getting into the holiday spirit. So, uh we've been enjoying that here at the school as well. Um just want to give you a little few updates. If any of you saw news day today, um are the New York State 2024 25 assessments in grade uh in grades 3 through 8 ELA and math were made public today. At our next uh board meeting January 13th, Mr. Kelt is going to pres to present a really detailed review of our students performance and he's also going to
share updates on student progress uh so far this year as well as information on the new state initiatives that are are coming to be as we move forward. So I don't know if you were able to see news day this year but we're very comparable to local districts and we're going to constantly be working um towards improvement as district health is going to share with you all the things that we're doing. uh at in the school at this time. And um I said we've had a very busy couple weeks as we're heading into the holiday season. Um our winter concert was on December 11th and um it was a really wonderful turnout. It was a packed large gym and I just say kudos to our 5 through8 students. Um they were really terrific. It was
a nice concert and um we really appreciate all the support of the families and uh the community in supporting the arts in the school. It's something that's very important to us and to our students. And also um just over the last two weeks, we've had numerous field trips um in the district trying to provide our kids with experiences that are really meaningful for them. And um one of the things that was really nice is um our fifth grade students um were selected uh via a lottery to visit News Day headquarters. Uh their teachers said it was one of the best trips that they had ever gone on with their students. Um it aligned completely with their journalism uh writing unit and during the visit students um participated in mock cris uh press briefings. They engaged
in shared writing exercises. They really got to see what it was like to be part of a news organization and they got they had a they got a lot of trinkets and things to do week before they really appreciate it. And then um our fourth grade students visited Gill Hall and they wanted to view as you're aware the student artwork is on display there now not only from Springs but from all our neighboring districts. And just want everyone to know that uh the artwork will be there through the first week of January. we encourage you to visit. They all had a great time not only appreciating their own art but looking at amazing people. And then this Thursday and Friday, students in grades K through five celebrate the house. Sorry boys. They're going to see
the Polar Express. Yes, we're very excited about that. Sorry. >> I just got a tickle in my throat. >> Thank you so much. [clears throat] >> I know. Um, one of the nice things that happened uh during this week too is our kids all throughout the district created um holiday cards and East Hampton has a club that's called the Whiskey um Bravo Club and the students from that club came and collected all the cards that spring school students made and they sent them to our troops overseas for the holiday season just with really nice messages thanking them for their service in school. So, it was a really nice writing project for for students and a way for them to just show their appreciation for our service members. And then this whole week, we had the
Elf on the Shelf in uh the small gym. And as difficult as it was because we can't have the cafeteria in there that week, it's well worth it because the kids were so happy to go in there and be able to shop, buy little gifts for everyone. And the PTA really uh just were so thankful for our PTA. Thank you so much for this community. They support our students uh in so many different efforts and we're really thankful for that. It was very successful and the kids really enjoyed uh buying things. Many staff members bought a lot of uh of the items in there and then they donated them to all our toys for tots uh boxes that we have all over the building um to provide uh presents for kids all around. We also
have uh sneakers that we're doing donations. Uh kids are bringing sneakers. It's really nice every day to see kids that come in with sneakers that don't fit them anymore that they're donating to uh students in need. So part of our, you know, our store that we have in the school is really helping kids to uh realize how good it is to, you know, to give back to the community and to other students in need. So we really appreciate all that. And then um just as always just put the enrollment up. Uh I just update the board on our enrollment and um just uh interestingly our prek through 8th grade enrollment has increased. As you're aware, many districts are losing enrollment. We've actually increased significantly. Um not significantly, but we're almost back up to where we
were um before enrollment started dropping. And um we've increased by 14 students since this time last year. by 13 students since this last month about 13 students pre preK through eight and then at the high school uh we've increased by four students. So one of the things we talk about is why it's so important in the budget to make sure that we have enough money in case we do have increases in enrollment and this is proved uh to be prudent in our uh in our developing our budgets. And then lastly, just want to say to everyone, um, happy holidays and have a wonderful, uh, relaxing holiday season. And I wish you all a wonderful new year as we go forward. And I'm very excited about, uh, starting the budget process, which is, uh, coming about
in January. You're laughing because [laughter] in a it's an exciting time. Um, but we are beginning, we've already begun, uh, working on our budget for next year. um we're confident that we're going to be in a good place uh and that we're going to be able to support the programs and the staffing that we need to move forward in a positive direction. So, we'll be starting that at the next uh board meeting. So, thank you all. >> Thank you very much. >> Yeah, budget season is have done a wonderful job forecast was evidence that enrollment is not just the beginning of the thing. It's continuously for that. We appreciate everything that you guys are doing to make this school special community as well. Community there might be some things that you can share on that.
>> Yeah, our robotics club had their first competition this Saturday and that's on in the community. So, um we're we're excited. We have three robotics teams this year instead of two and that's due to uh you know just student enthusiasm um and hearing about uh how fun the program is in the class. issues over there. Any questions with regards to without further ado, let's make it official. Huh? Uh we'll have a motion to approve items 5.1 and 5.2 under the superintendent report. Motion second. And uh all those in favor? I none opposed. Motion carries. Welcome. >> Y >> Elise, I'd like you just to come up and meet the board. >> Uh we do have two board members that were not feeling well this evening. It's going around. >> No, no, it's right. So, um,
almost finished. Before we do though, we have our second public commentary this evening. This can be any comments or questions, uh, with items that are not necessarily on the agenda. LTV, let us know from home or here that would uh change your mind and want to speak now, let us know. >> We have no callers on the line. >> This is a record board meeting. >> Yeah, we're going to get this in and record lot this remember this day. All right. So, uh if there are no other comments or questions, I motion to adjourn this meeting. Do I have a motion? >> Second. I guess I motion. That would be pretty. All those in favor? I. Happy holidays everyone. Take care. >> All right. Happy holidays everyone. >> Take care.
