All right. Good evening, uh, East Hampton Town Board. Uh, we're live on YouTube. Phone lines are open and this meeting is being recorded. You may begin. >> Thank you very much. Can I have a motion to call the meeting to order? >> Second. >> All in favor? To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Thank you very much. >> Hi, how are you? So, welcome. This is our 10th repair reserve. This is our 10th It's our 10th preparer hearing. So you remember it's the same format. The district administration has identified several projects that want to see accomplished. We then have advertised and hold their public hearing so the board can allow themselves to be educated as

to the proposed projects. And then uh later on there's an item in the agenda for the board to vote to appropriate the money out of the repairs should you wish to see those projects done. I'd be remiss if I didn't thank Greel, our director of facilities, for all the work he does to help put this together. And I sure hope he's listening live because he asked me to thank him. So, all right. So, repair, obviously, the magic words here are worn, torn, broken, andoperable. We're just familiar with all this. We've done all, you know, we've done this for 10 time. So, here are our projects that we have. I'm just going to stand up here so you can see this more easily. So, the first is a very expensive printer we have in the art

department here in the high school. It's not functioning properly anymore, so we're looking to replace it. The second is computers. We went through this uh over the summer during our last repair reserve hearing. The district is in the process of trying to replace laptops particularly that students use that have seen better days. So, we need to use some repair reserve to help push that project along. Uh the synchronized clock system here at the high school, it needs a little bit of work. Those are some clocks that have I write twice a day. Uh but we need them to be right all the time. I thought that uh here at the high school, uh some of our outdoor railings and uh and metal uh covers are rusted. They're rusted through. You can see a selection of

pictures here. So, basically, this project is going to be that the contractor is going to come scrape off all the rust and powder powder coat paint everything to get it back to looking as if it's new. uh the exterior sign. So, let's be very clear what we're talking about here. This is the sign that is out on Long Lane. It used to be electronic. We are proposing a replacement that has no electricity whatsoever. So, this is approximately what it is going to look like. The top shows approximately what it's going to look like from both angles. It does have lights on this version of it. The final version will have no lights. There will be no electricity to the sign at all. I don't know how much clearer I can make that. Uh the bit

on the right shows you what you would see if you were standing perpendicular to sorry straight or parallel with the sign. The one on the left shows the perpendicular angle. The picture on the bottom shows an example of approximately what it's going to look like when it's done. I think our sign will be shorter than this one here on the bottom, but I'm trying to give as most best of an estimation as what it's going to be. All right. >> It's going to be brick or the other stone. It's a tough one as it is. >> I I think we're going with brick. So, but approximately >> Yeah. I like the area being filled like the bottom side. It's going to say East Hampton High School like that on the bottom >> across. >> And

it says underneath the East Hampton Union Free School District. You can't see it from >> Yeah. >> Okay. Uh we're going to do some tree trimming here at the high school. We have trees that are growing over the fences off the sports fields. So, we're going to cut back the trees. We've done tree trimming through the repair reserve before. At the middle school, we're going to be redoing the parking lot with new seal coating and the sidewalk that wraps around the building that uh sorry, on the as you're looking at the building on the left hand side, it wraps about halfway around the building. It's cracked. It's made of asphalt. We are going to replace it with actual concrete for actual sign. This is a great example. If I could just step out of the

repair reserve here for one second. At our bond meeting, we have talked about ways of pulling projects out of the bond that need to be accomplished and using other sources of funds in order to accomplish them. The parking lot and the sidewalk at the middle school have been identified by Greg and by Mike Guido, the district architect, as things that have to happen. We're able to use with your approval repair reserve money here to accomplish this project and thus reduce the financial burden to the bond. And this is just an example of how we're going to do that. There will be others that will come up from time to time. I'll try to point them out as we encounter them. But this is an example of if we're not fun through the repair reserve, it's

got to go on the bottom. All right. Uh at the middle school also the flooring in the lowest level, the basement level, it needs to be abaded and replaced. You can see that we kind of have a interesting mix of flooring there. Some of the tile is the asbestous, so it's not fryable at the moment. It's not cracked at the moment, but it's getting there and we need to take care of it before it happens. Uh, and then at John Marshall, the management stores, they get a lot of abuse simply from being used again and again and again all day long. You can kind of see in these pictures here how we have rust and decay that has happened. It's time to replace these doors. Making sure that they're secure is very important for the

safety of the students, the staff, the building, and also for the building envelope to keep the heat in and the cold out. Uh, couple other projects. We have a snow plow that needs to be replaced as we head into winter season. This particular plow is rusted. It does not plow too well. Uh, and then the athletic trainer cart. This is a cart that does not work anymore. Our athletic trainer, Nick Jarbo, goes from building to building to building. Depending on where the student need is, we need to get him a cart that actually works. So, that's what this is. >> What is going on in that? It was raining and this is the cover that goes on its so we're trying to you know we tried to get as much much life out of it

as possible but it doesn't work any but that's essentially where it is that's the repair reserve here >> okay so we right now have 700 uh 2,720,000 in there >> what does all these projects add up to >> uh there it's on the >> it's on the agenda response for a second. Uh if you go into section seven of the agenda, it's item number 7.10. We are asking to appropriate $642,658 out of the fair reserve. So down to about 2.1, >> you know, 2.1 million left, which is a very tidy sum for us to continue to work these projects. You know, as we've discussed before, there's no doubt allowing us to do repairs before things become more major projects, more expensive is overall savings to the taxpayer. The doors of John Marshall are perfect example

of that. We certainly continue to allow them to be, but the rot is only going to continue to grow. the needs continue to grow and the cost will only continue to go up. It works. We don't fix it. So, >> are there any other >> Yeah, we're in a much better place since we've had this repair reserve, you know. >> Are these estimated prices or do you have these other solid prices >> and whatever is left over Greg and I try to bring these projects in under budget. Whatever whatever is left over gets refunded to the repair reserve. In fact, I think there is an item on the agenda tonight. on the other 7. It's 7-Eleven. >> 7-Eleven. Yeah. So, you can see we brought the project in. I mean, it's a small sum, $700,

but that money gets rolled back into the fair reserve so it could be appropriated again for future use. >> Yeah. So, we'll still have at least $6 million of that. >> No, there $2.1 million in there. >> The voters authorized the fund of up to seven and a half million. Okay. There's about 2.7 in it right now. The rest of it will come in the future as there's money left over at the end of each. >> So 2.7 and we're spending about 640. >> Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. >> Yeah. >> Once we approve it, you can get moving on. >> We're ready to go. Good. So yeah. >> All right. Any other repairs or questions? I just want to change gears real quick, but I think you need to maybe close the motion to close the

hear. >> All in favor? >> Thank you very much. >> Okay. Uh this is not a new agenda, but we just wanted to throw this out there real quick. Uh a brief update on the playground at John Marshall. They're cooking along. >> Yeah, we're good. >> Um Karen and Greg were inspecting things today. Adam thought that we could just share this with you. So the new concrete is down. This tree is pre-existing. And as it was designed, as the project was designed with Mike Guido, the concrete is poured in a circular shape around the tree. They're going to be benches that line the outside of that circular area. So there places for people to sit. Uh that's circular walkway around existing tree. Um there's a pathway that goes from the building. It's new concrete, sorry,

new path concrete pathway that goes right from the building onto the playground. You can see they poured the concrete. It looks really good. under that concrete and elsewhere in the playground is conduit that was buried. You recall that as part of the design, we required uh conduit to allow us to have security cameras on the playground which we previously did not have very good angles or non-existent security certainly dark areas. And for an AED device that's going in a separate part of the property, but the conduit has all been put in place. It's already been covered over. The lines are going to be strung through. It's working out really well. This is another area of the playground. There's going to be uh uh picnic picnic uh tables that are going to go in this area.

So, kids will be able to sit if they want to read a book, if they want to chat with their friends during uh recess time. The swings are really exciting. So, everywhere where you see dirt is going to be poured in place rubber safety surface. And I'm sorry that the shadow is here, but you can see the black poles particularly on the left hand um pick photo. That's going to be the fence that surrounds the play the swing set. So when kids are walking, previously they walk by the swing set, get clocked in the head. That's what somebody was swinging. That's not going to happen anymore because we're going to have the fence around it. And you can see they've started to put the fence started to put the swing set um >> crossbar, what

are we calling that? >> Yeah. >> Gantry in place. So you can see that it's already there. Uh and the rubber safety service will probably go in next week. It's going to probably go last. Those are the pictures we have for this. So and as we do more of this, we'll bring >> Greg also wanted me to point out that's his >> Yeah, I'm just gonna he's up at the state conference for athletic directors. So, I just wanted to bring you the attention uh to our East Hampton girls volleyball dick pick game. Um I received an email that Kathy sent me something in addition. Uh but I'm going to read the the email received JB girls uh and Mars girls volleyball did raise a lot of money for Side Foundation Pink initiative 21,400. They also

raised over 1,000 at the bake sale and t-shirt sale. The goal was to uh surpass last year's total fundraiser of $15,000. I think they did that. Um I want to give a shout out to the coaches and the girls, coach Jacqueline Duno, Abby DS, Bridget Eman. Um great job and really appreciate. They do this every year and uh again it was a resounding success and a big thank you to the East community for supporting our our sports teams and their charitable endeavors. >> Good. Very good. >> Yes. Wonderful. Thank you. Sorry. >> Hi everybody. Um so this breaking news our um buildon trip that was scheduled to go to Nepal. We just got word that um due to the political situation there as well as the upcoming elections in March and who knows what that

will bring um that it's not safe for student travel to go to Nepal. So they are pivoting and going to Malawi instead. Same time frame but different location and uh buildon just came out. They just had their parent meeting tonight and so filled them in on all things Maloi. So um so uh it they'll still have the same incredible experience that we hear about every year, you know, just a different location. So just wanted to update you on that as your original approval was for Nepal but now it's for >> I suggested that Sarah just do this. I didn't want to put a motion. I think I think you guys know to build on trip how great it is and I think you felt you'd be okay with everyone but Sarah's pretty top. >> Yeah.

Yeah. Great. Okay. Perfect. Uh so I'll let them know that's a go. Um our PSAT day, our 10th and 11th graders took the PSAT. uh we split it up into two days and the flip side of our students taking the PSAT um our students had a uh assembly where we had people from generation SOS which is a uh group that is committed to substance abuse education and in light of our student tragedy last year that involved in some way substances we are trying to make a conscious effort just to uh address that in any way possible. So, this assembly involved uh recovering addicts coming and talking about their firsthand experience, which was uh we're very grateful for them for their willingness and their guts to share their story with our students and hopefully another uh

level of prevention and just awareness and how that goes handinhand with mental health. Um so, uh that was the flip side of PSATs, the days that they weren't uh taking the test. Um, and that was all grades 9 through 12 sat for the assembly and of course just our 10th and 11th graders did the PSAT. Um, next week we have parent conferences coming up from 4 to 6. So on Wednesday, sorry, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 6. So a great opportunity for parents to um get their academic progress of their child. So please, if you're available, please come to parent teacher conferences if you're listening. all of our callers. Um, and super exciting news that you may have heard of because this is now the second round. We have two students uh, and Mr.

From and Dr. Rivito currently in De Moines, Iowa. Our two students, Ginger Griffin and Sophie Lancaster are competing in the World Food Prize. And it this this is uh the second round of Cornell um that they competed last year. So now we had two students make it to the next level of the World Food Prize. And at this level, which is so exciting, they are now presenting in front of ad companies, chemical companies for potential internships and jobs down the road. Um, in fact, my uncle, side note, worked for one of these big companies and remembers going as a rep from his company to the World Food Prize and saying, you know, how many opportunities it could provide for our students. Um, so this is our first time making. We've had students make it in

the past, but this is the first time we have had our current seniors go. Uh, so we're really eager to hear, and I'll fill you in when they come back, how how it went. >> Great. Thank you. Today uh we kicked off our PTA book fair which as you know it's worth mentioning publicly because these women um and they're all moms raise a lot of money and for the good of the school and I said this to the whole building this is different than when Stella when you were at the middle school but now we've collaborated with Bokehampton and bring in really high quality trade books that range from, you know, somewhere in the low teens to $30 a book. And every middle schooler is a able to choose one uh text from the choices

that are out there. So, our our librarian, Mrs. Marieo, collaborates with Book Hampton to choose books that would be appropriate for middle schoolers. And then the library gets set up like a little It reminds me of the new uh Barnes & Noble uh in Bridgeampton. It's very different than the Scholastic Bookf Fair and just very cool. And the fact that every child gets to choose one, I think is wonderful. But that doesn't happen by itself. So these folks work very hard and people >> they raise they they raise money. >> They raise money. They also I put out a link for them and people are able to donate or you know can um and it's really spectacular that also students can still buy books. So if you know parents give their kids money to come

to school for the fair you can still purchase books and then book thankfully gives back 20% of those sales to the PTA. So it's also becomes a nice fundraiser for the PTA. But I did want to acknowledge that again because I think it's it's important. And that started today and that's staffed by the PTA volunteers today uh tomorrow and Thursday. >> It it it goes on all day. So they can come in during their free periods. Um they come in during cafeteria, but they are also escorted by their ELA teachers where they get a little orientation to what's there. >> No, it's at the middle school in our library. Sorry I didn't say that, but the books all come from Bokehampton. >> Great. >> And then our clubs have been going really strong. Two weeks

ago, our student association and our surf rider all gathered up at the beach and they did a actually at the harbor and did an oyster seating. We had 34 students there, which is amazing. Um the numbers that we're getting for the activities are really wonderful. In fact, I should have said it when Rob Loro, our orchestra teacher, was here a couple weeks ago, but um next time I'll bring a photo and have Luke post it for everybody. Um the numbers for the orchestra have been phenomenal. So, you saw the small chamber group, but as compared to years ago, I didn't want to say this because I think it would embarrass him, but it's really praise to him. When you see our concerts now, the orchestra fills the entire stage. And if you remember, that was

always a very small group of 7 to 12 kids. So that's phenomenal that it's as large as the chorus and uh the band. Really, really, really great stuff. Um and then one other good news that was in the paper. This is for our do good be good club. You know, they have the largest clam contest. So, there was a shout out in here to the our new do good behood. The lines were long for the raw bar Manhattan and New England style clam chowder and other refreshments and volunteers from the East Hampton Middle School's Do Good Beg Good Club kept the proceedings moving smoothly. So, they were helping out with, you know, sort of the back of house stuff. But that's good to see and a good service opportunity for middle schoolers because, as you

know, those are few and far between. as far as >> I would imagine David Catalan our teacher is very involved with that group is he the >> David Catalo is the adviser so he's the perfect person for it and he's a >> trustee exactly >> great guy >> yeah agreed all right thank you >> and probably a swimmer I would Hi, good evening everyone. I thought I'd um share that for the first time this year, we are collaborating with the family service leagues education department to offer a workshop series in parenting. Um we are have three workshops planned um really targeting prek and kindergarten families and we're trying something different. Our first workshop is tomorrow and we're doing it at one o'clock in the afternoon with the hope that families who come to pick up

their children from prek at 2:15 will come a little earlier, see the workshop and then, you know, pick up their child. So, the first two we're doing at this 1:00 time, and we'll see if it um we did have, I believe, 10 RSVP. Yes, I sent out another blast today. So, um you know, hopefully that might be a better time to get some turnout. It's very hard to get families to come out and I understand as a you know a parent that it's hard at the end of a workday. So we're going to give this a shot. We have two daytime workshops and then we'll do one evening workshop later in the year. So we'll be able to gauge attendance doing it, you know, at two different times. Tomorrow night's workshop is um dealing with

uh I'm sorry, tomorrow afternoon's workshop dealing with disobedience. And then next Wednesday, the 29th, it's developing good bedtime routines. So, we're hoping that family service >> I might go ahead. >> Um, and they are bringing out two educators tomorrow. So, we'll be um they will be delivering the workshops in both English and Spanish for our families. So, I will follow up on that. You know, we're hoping that that's a success. Um, Friday the 31st, our annual Halloween parade at 2:30 p.m. It's our nice little walk just from John Marshall to Eleanor Whitmore and back. And then, um, it's just right around the corner, our Veterans Day celebration. I hope if you have not yet received the invitation, that's on Friday, November 7th. And, um, our clubs are also up and running. Uh, homework club just

started this week. Um, so our grades three through five participating in homework club. Um and you know more to come throughout the year on on the clubs happening at John Marsh. >> Can you explain the difference between homework club and project mo? >> So homework club is a one-hour club where projectmost parents can opt to have their children there until 6 p.m. >> So it's for third, fourth only third, fourth, and fifth graders for homework club. Project most is prek through 5, >> right? Um, so we have a lot of students who just stay for that extra hour to get their homework done. And also on the parent end >> that's by our our staff. The homework club is our staff. >> It's is it's project most run but it is our staff that um

that advises it. >> Okay. And and is is there any waiting list? Does Project Most take all the kids that want to be in that? There are 13 students currently on a wait list for Project most and as you know they will continue to hire to be able to service as many students as possible. So they are still um hiring but right now >> we're trying to knock that number down. >> We are we are they are >> okay. Thank you. >> Um so the first thing was the college fair. It went really nice and I think it struck up a lot of inspiration for which colleges to apply to and all the grades can visit but it is more encourage for juniors and seniors since we are thinking about it and um just the

college process in general. as a senior. I think I can talk a little bit about it, but I told Miss Smith a lot of us are kind of on struggle bus right now. Um, and the October 15th deadline was a big thing. The next one is the November 1st one for early decision and early action. And it's a stressful time. We all need to figure out our essays, supplements, um, choosing our majors. We have to kind of figure out what we want to do with our lives. Um, a lot of us have to think about finances if we want to be able to spend the money, if we can spend the money for school. Um, so it's it's stressful, but it's really exciting. So, I think that's kind of what all the students are feeling

right now. Um, we have the health fair on November 6th from 4 to 6. Um, it's under Miss Coach Santa or Miss Santa's guidance. Um, it's a student run initiative and it's the first time we're doing it, so it's really exciting. Um the whole community is invited so all ages and it's gonna have like the ARF and pup truck um the Eastampton Healthcare Foundation. It's going to have some mental health services retreat and it's just going to be a day to tune in with yourself and relax. >> Um and then for StuCo, we're going to be hosting the trunk or treat on Friday. This upcoming Friday from 4 to 6. And the new thing this year is the movie night. We're going to be playing Hocus Pocus. Um, so it's going to be $5 for

trunk or treat, $10 for the movie, and $12 for both. Um, the trunk or treat, it's going to be students who have cars. We're going to decorate our cars and um, student kids can trickor treat. And we're going to have a lot of games. It's going to be a good community service opportunity. And I just confirmed right after school today, we're going to have a donation from Regal for popcorn. So that's >> awesome. That's cool. >> Stella, are all of the seniors getting enough support? while they're feeling super stressed. I'm good. >> Yeah, I think um the college like the counseling department has been really really nice and um with first and n period it's free to any college help. So, it's definitely a lot of weight that's lifted to be able to just walk

in and have help. >> You're almost done with that public comment. Anybody here has public comment? Joey, do you have anybody with a public comment on the phone line? >> We have no callers on the line. >> Thank you very much. Okay, I have a motion to accept the consent agenda. >> Make a motion. >> Second. All in favor? I >> carries. So the superintendent report recommendations and item number one. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
