would be more beneficial to work and do like a workshop session tonight we're talking about putting this screen together okay you know follow up on and then the next one session two more sessions forward right you know because what are the communications we have now in place what is working what's not worth what we are in place well i mean do we need if we're talking about the website can we just hash it all out during work sessions devoting a portion to that do we need you know a specific committee for that and also in terms of having like another committee or power handling say shared decision making with subsets is that too much stuff to have in one committee because administration and we want teachers to be involved do people start getting pulled in
too many directions so what do what are your thoughts on that i mean i think the answer to that is yes i'm just living that experience but i think um i think having a limited amount of focus is the right thing to do and we just have to decide if we want to continue with something that was started prior to covet or do we want to really just reshape start fresh and reshape from where we're at now based on the lack of experience in the last couple of years um i think you know while equitable grading is really important it's not as relevant right now as what we're talking about which is immediate need for communication and whether it's internal or expert so to answer the question i think if we can expediate it and
focus it on one two or three items priorities then i think that that's the way to do it because getting everybody together even if it's virtual is gonna be very difficult right so other than communications which we all sort of felt was an important thing what are another say two important things separate from what we have on here like goals and you know other stuff going on in school that maybe needs to be addressed by a either the shared decision making or a communication type committee mental health yes another you know more current regulation that the state education department um wants to make sure by september 15th i was going to discuss is for the board even before he had to be trained on what are the mental health illnesses out there how can teachers
staff custodian clerical identify what a child is at risk what are the resources where you live we have a we have a crisis on here and we've been part of teams on long island um especially on the east end to try to address those needs along with our police department family service league the high school has a benefactor that has been helping us to support psychological needs so i think that's a clear focus for us and part of that dovetails with communication because of that cell phone tower and having to relay information when you're in the driveway and your patient is in the bedroom because you can't communicate to the police that you have a child in crisis and that's actually happened in the springs um so they dovetail a little bit but for me
i think mental health is a is a huge one is that a health safety and facilities committee i don't know separate okay this really deals with the building safety ert team which you know is combined with but that might not actually be important because you're not is that something that you want a board member on would you have a parent or other involvement or is it is that really like an administrative order the same legislation actually calls for it to be all stakeholders okay yes but is it an ongoing committee or is it like a a a training it's training okay and being aware of what your needs are so keeping that older stakeholders in what's available and our mental health department has done a good job if you go to their website they seem
to keep that pretty uh part but i do think it's a topic for us i you are you our needs are unique here i mean i see that some committees are long-standing and and they're they assess different programs and different policies and some are more of a bring awareness i see the mental health one is bringing awareness more than salt been making a decision on something right because we have the mental health staff in place and we have the programs that we have the alliances made with um service league and some other some other organizations but i see something like looking at a communication piece looking at a website looking at a new program that requires feedback from everybody because you're trying to make a decision about it that's the way i sort of differentiate
for instance curriculum reviews um we're going to be looking at new math programs that's something that we would want everybody's input on so all right so that's important so not math curriculum okay so then so maybe we keep sharing the the shared decision making and then there's a communications portion there's a curriculum proportion like you were saying subcommittees right right right yeah yeah i i think that could work and then then you're not trying to you're not using the same people in each group it's basically right oh well actually you are as far as the board goes because if that is a committee you have two people on there and they would be on everything even if one person felt they might want to be on communications or another one on curriculum so we should
probably actually have separate committees so we're going to be having subcommittees otherwise to your point and that would be just because the way we have them set up now i think what it would help like i think what you're saying too barbara is we're sitting on we're permanently sitting on these committees we really don't have subcommittees of committees yet right so if we're on so we i think we should define that you know like if if a communications committee is a committee on its own uh what you could easily see is you're collecting as close to real-time feedback as you can so whether it's a mission values whether it's team building whether it's website parent square uh communications to the community you know how can we better communicate where what we're doing going forward like
say for instance the website doesn't fall on the budget this year you know uh or if it can and what our plans are for it and and so we get and then once we have something like that that we have a portal that we can invite the community in and we have that external facing communications and we continue to figure out our internal facing communication so would that be a committee on its own or is that a subcommittee that we sit on permanently within shared decision making or something i mean you know what i mean this website go under technology and internal communication go under culture and climate which would be more shared decision making is and it makes it more of a priority for the people that are sitting here so should the website
actually be technology committee or is that communications well what maybe we define like because there's the creation of the website right which is certainly more technological but then there is the website in use you know just like parent square and use and we're going to be learning as we're launching and after we launched and we're going to want to hear feedback on that the communications committee is generally ongoing because you're going to be you're going to want feedback for whatever it is that you're you're communicating about you know we want to have informed decisions i mean everybody who's on that technology committee would be good at that and there aren't any board members on there right now um i think i think it was amy that was on the technology how often is the technology
committee meeting rule of thumb four times a year quarterly right that's the rule of thumb with covid we got away from that a little bit right but technology committee was originally started to make the technology plan when it was first mandated by the state and when we did the one-to-one devices and we rolled those out based on a grant and that was quite some time ago maybe like 2000 do we still need the technology committee that's that's the thing i mean i'm not exactly sure what the board organization says but you may be able to rework some of them is that part of health safety and facilities at this point well that's it you know we even hate some facilities you also have the five-year plan that's not under building the grounds of a five-year
plan yeah that's not up there you know that's well yeah i was going to talk about that that needs to be a separate committee on itself because we do have the health and safety of facilities but the five-year plan maybe component facilities but i don't know if it should be a separate committee by itself so it's not communicable with the rest of the stuff well yeah or should we have health safety and communications as one committee and then you have like the facilities and five-year plans something together well there's two five-year plans too financial five-year plan and then there's the building the grounds five years planned family conditions what was missed on that speed list and what do we need to complete that but you guys been working on forward which costs more money for
the budget every year taking it out of this building the grounds taking it out of maintenance and taking their to me it seems like building the ground should be its own committee separate from health and safety because there's a lot of stuff literally there was yeah it was the bottom of capital improvement because there were health concerns that also were building [Music] improvement and then the building grounds was dropped because we're working on the a b list yeah it became all about what's going on out there right and all that yeah the facility became a part of the house because of we still don't know if a reopening play is going to be required we have not heard true people where they only said masks will not be required right now is it tonight but
there is sort of like this like barbara was saying that you know does health and safety you know you have mental health you have wellness you know these are becoming emergent topics of the time does that begin to become its own thing so that you can have a focus in the discussion then we have facility five year plans does that now emerge as a separate entity and then communication you know so i mean these are these are really important questions like a building health and safety committee versus just a regular right yeah that encompasses the outside well yeah you could have the with the health and safety you would have the nurses uh the mental health office principal on that committee you know post-professional christine turner would be a perfect example on that committee what
would you be doing with building the grounds health and safety she doesn't you know they're able to be like you said time is time and you know time is time why do you have your nurses sitting there talking about hey listen in five years we replace all the doors now we did talk about you know as we get these committees because it would be nice to shore them up and i think you know during board sessions i believe we were discussing like having a brief uh summary of what if a committee had met that we would discuss what was going on because you could see that some of these committees like you know if you're dealing with a buildings oriented committee they might be dealing with the the you know the hard goods if you
will of we need to be socially distanced we need this is how a building is safe but then you also have just health and wellness in general and you have that in motion that's a more dynamic interpersonal thing it's not a silly tied to a facility now it's it's not necessarily uncommon that these two committees can function separately come up with their findings and then come together in a board session where we inform them but then i think that's a way that we could keep focus because like you know paris said i mean when i sat on that committee too i mean you it was all needed during covet for sure but yeah sometimes you just have a whole committee it could be a building discussion you never talk about wellness you know that just
you have an hour you know so if that's something that we want you might want to be more specific with the committees that we have i don't know i mean i feel like health and safety should be a separate committee yeah and buildings and grounds should be a committee yeah communications and then you have like a scholastics committee which could cover um say curriculum and grading things and stuff like that and so website would fall under communications and maybe if you know now that technology is more or less in place maybe a technology committee is is not really necessary if something comes up where you have to change uh a format or something do you really need a whole committee for us that's that's a discussion at a board meeting you bring it to us
that we need a new operating system whatever you do need a whole committee for that um not until we have to redo a new technology plan which will be next year so i mean is that something does that fall under communications or buildings and grounds maybe if it's like is it hard wiring plan which would be part of the buildings it well no it's about how are you meeting the needs of the students with instructional technology and that's communication that could be communications right it can also be academic but you know i don't think things like that they could discuss in both communities you know i mean i don't think that's uh you just get a little bit more because those are two that those aren't necessarily that wouldn't affect the committee per se those
are ongoing committees but sometimes these issues might be discussed laterally among two committees i don't know that right and actually then you have like you have board members on one side of discussion on the other so you might be getting a little more more information back to the board yeah yeah and i mean really committees aren't supposed to be making decisions on that they're supposed to bring things to the board and then the board gets the approval for you know the recommendation says we need some more information or whatever um i like the list that you i mean that seemed like we were if we're not committed you know to these names and we're evolving i think you had a nice direction that you were getting just some order to uh to re allocating and
naming these committees but do we still have to have legally the shared making committee which that that's a question that if i can get an answer from stated we have a regulation from 2014 i don't require any regulation dismissing it or acknowledging right and we do it anyway we're because we're a smaller um school in the district we're able to do we do surveys all the time and we not committees but we do a lot of feedback from other stakeholders so i think we're pretty good at doing that how do you want to officially what you want to title them your guidance advisory council is required that came about a few years ago and that's um again a board member's on there but really it's not necessarily a board committee as it is guidance right
uh your audit committee is your commitment that is that is the board of education the district of again emergency response committee is not a board committee it's a requirement it's required out of the building it's a building level committee right there so there's not a board member on that because then you were bringing us the the purpose of that committee is to review the emergency response plan and amend it as we go forward and bring it to the board for approval and the policy committee is definitely a board committee for which you have invited the fta um to your partner yeah there is one committee that's not on there that is recommended by the state in this team again right sort of coincided with cobit is the diversity equity and inclusion committee and that is
something um i could give you more information on that because of the timing of it a lot of districts did not get to it so i need to call stated and find out how how pressing this is for us but um that's supposed to be aboard committing a district-wide committee a board member it would be great if a board member could be involved in that okay and i'll i can send you more information on that okay this is this is uh this is about that we're doing a board retreat i'm trying to find out if they have someone available for the afternoon of the 20th if they don't i'm thinking maybe we should do it anyway and can we see if um they called me today i was going to talk to you about that
oh okay i don't know if we're going to talk about it here or yeah did they say if someone was available she called me and said that you were that she there was somebody coming here to on the 20th or having a retreat on the 20th yes took me by surprise about it i don't know yeah we're trying to set up a forward retreat and so on okay because they left the messages a little while before we started the meeting okay and said that somebody was coming for a morning retreat on the 20th okay then that means they must have i guess okay she has she needed to get some information from me okay so i didn't have anything you call her backwards so i was gonna get some information from you okay all right
great um by the way so we're gonna do the board retreat so these are great conversations to have also right um um so you know we can have a new list of board committees here you can find out more about the diversity committee maybe we can find out about the share of decision making or maybe we'll just policies on that quietly let that fall by the wayside if there's no nothing about them right so we don't have a um and then communication we can be reaching out to make sure especially on communications all stakeholders in terms of you know parents and teachers and any community members who um may feel that they need more communication from the school like okay so we know there's an issue with our budget newsletter getting out in a timely
fashion that has been an issue and we really need to figure out how to address that so yeah can you give a uh because parents agreed upon kind of one party one with that right away can you explain to the public this one do you mean a little bit about public square oh square yeah probably really really like yourself as long i know what it is i use it but there's also 700 students that are k28 and have not used it yet and we are presenting something new and i think that because we have ltv here to use it okay i thought you'd be in the same position as anywhere like oh we've seen those relationships i'll just clean out the uh keypad the screen on the big screen there you go okay so give
me um so it's an app that's on your phone so right now when a parent gets a text message from us or an email it gets mixed in with all their other emails and all of them their other text messages and they may be driving or you know i saw it was the school but i don't remember what it said on this app which is free to the parent we pay the parent it's free they can see whatever messages came through they can look very quickly at springs calendar and east hampton calendar to have an east hampton school from what i've heard from the parents that have gone on your program which is our program is e-school when you load e-school into this parent square which is all uh compliant with the data privacy okay
you put in your email it recognizes that you're a parent in spring school and it allows you access so now you have this app on your phone you're getting your calendar there you'll be getting messages there you can go back and see the message you know how parent says you know i forgot when is parent teacher conferences you can go back and it's gonna be there it's not gonna go away because you erased it on on your phone i spoke to a colleague of mine from ramsenberg she was in the same situation once west hampton went to paris where she got a lot of pressure to put everything on one spot and they went to the same place we have blackboard connect right now and i can tell you that i cannot do anything from
my phone i can't send a message from my phone i have to sit literally behind the computer on this if we had an emergency you know a bus accident and i was there i could access and send a message through the act to just you know parents of children that take buses or something like that or bus round six will be late because there was accidents so it does mass notifications it personalizes it the high school is not using it for classroom yet but many of our teachers use something called class dojo you've heard about them speak about it they're all their own little platforms administrators don't see it this we would have access to and be able to see everything that's going out in in real time you could do surveys on this and
get feedback statistics you know it'll put it in charts and graphs for you calendar and event rsvp we could give our pta rights to post on here as well and then they could say barbecue please rsvp and we will know that 300 people are going to show up for the barbecue so it could be a really good tool from them health screening they are as i said compliant with data privacy so if a parent wanted to send their help forms they could upload them here versus sending them on a fax machine that could end up sitting in a fax machine in their office so it's very secure there was um an automatic language translator so if you have a phone and your phone is set for spanish it'll automatically every message you get will be
in spanish there's nothing for you to translate which again sometimes somebody will say how come you can get the message out as fast as these as fast as example i had to wait to get it translated i don't need to do that here i can again send a message very quickly from my phone and it'll automatically be translated from here the cost is less than what we're playing paying for blackboard connect and i really would like to be able to put this in place for september roll out because we've got parent um back to school nights barbecue there's lots of things that this could be very helpful for rather than you know um waiting for let's say uh activity very easy to onboard training is you know unlimited training for what the visuals are very
crisp crisp very engaging it's yeah much better than just you know an old texas kit from blackboard and i know christy and julie did you download it yet yeah i'm in the process and it's less expensive than blackboard connect yes all right i like that and it's supposed to be great that's appropriate yes the whole thing where are they out of now there's anybody on staff here after you get the so data um gibbons would have to do a download right send it to me this was um advertised i guess back in march or april and i missed the virtual luncheon was you know promoting this back in march or april i found it an old email when i put in paris where i looked for the recent email actually i did get an invite
on this um i spoke to the high school they're very happy with it they really they're not rolling out all the features at once they're giving all the administrators the right so you'll see a post from adam fine and i think athletics they gave the rights to athletics those were the two areas and um big four to bed and the principal yeah did they use this last year did they are they just starting it just right so how soon can we get it up and running within a week okay so you can send parents a message as soon as it's up like hey we're the new system for next year yeah i mean getting it done before september i think so people can because they have to they have to just put their email in
yeah you can pick what school if you have kids in two different schools on the left under my profile i could pick one school if you could find a kid here and there and we both had it i just think the school and i can see spring school and my kids out of spring come up or if i think of high school my kids in the high school would come up there are a lot of other features like you know the pta wanted to have a store that could be on here where you can do it a virtual store to purchase things right athletics sells um like ideas the health forums are great yes that's the biggest one you know field trips um i wonder too this seems like it would be a better uh
integrative element to a future website i'm sure there are some things on here like maybe a uh you know like a store or something a storefront i'm sure these things are you know more modern and are easier to code into a website you know this this is really easy if you go to east hampton's website julian you have that up as well i can change yeah i think i put it in that car for the website so on east hampton's website it's right in the corner okay so i think everybody thinks this is a good idea to go ahead with so we did so let's talk quickly about the webs we've got a couple other things on here so mission statement goals and visions we got actually a lot on foreign um now this is
robertsonburg's um website and you i think barbara before somebody asked me about the drone footage from parkies they never did it so they're gonna now they're gonna come out and do it um julie can you go to um scroll down i thought it was on their page okay um all right so this is east hampton's new site see parent square right here so the music department has posted some something there's homecoming so that's probably the building principle right athletic update sarah actually was the one that posts all of them but they you know all different categories it comes up like for us a little you know it comes up differently in different places so sometimes you see who's posting it sometimes you just went and posted it oh i like how they have important calendar
events right on the page so deb you told me about a few websites that have been designed by different people yeah and i think do you have them all yeah i was also i was looking at that hsra the high school for recording arts which one which looks kind of cool and really takes me back to my chart so i started the website investigation last year because i was really unhappy i couldn't find things on our website so i started to talk to a company called abigail right here um and christine and i revisited her just to give her the benefit of the doubt that things might have changed and she actually came down at the prices so this is now two dollars um the one-time fee she came down things are coming down when
it comes to websites because they're becoming easier and easier to do they indicate that a child can create a website that that's how easy it is we're still in an old old platform that requires actual coding so none of us here can do it don gibbons is the only one that actually can do it julie calls syntax which is this company here which we're currently paying them six thousand dollars to host our website and we have to call them or email them and put in a ticket to make any changes including we found an error on our calendar and quickly had to call them to take it down um they want sixty five hundred dollars to redesign in her website okay it will take nine months nine months school insight is your east hampton website
so if you have a chance to take a look at that that's who um posted and that's who created it this feat is minimal campaign has actually spent a lot more than this because for every day of training it's 800 so training for staff or social media whoever is going to manage your website and whoever's going to help create your website hey i want this here i want that there i want this um i spoke to the two gentlemen over at east hampton they were very gracious and gave me a lot of their time i shared this list with them and based on knowing us and and they made a different recommendation than their own website they recommended educational networks this is an annual faith but it's unlimited training and you can the first time
i reached out to this company i was interested in them because i saw the kings park website and i liked that one when i reached out they immediately gave me a cell phone number twenty four seventy thousand no problem i like that service i don't like talking with a chat button um and then they pointed me to remsenberg's fianc which is a very similar school to us and i said you know how did you afford to do this and she said we were with syntax too um i'm waiting for a phone call back from syntax to see if we can navigate something on a monthly basis to hold our current website while we want to build our new website they're indicating they can have us up in a week with like a template some place
to hold important information board dates calendar events parent square and then build it um athletics of course very easy we watched it's it's you know how you fill out a form online for something you name your address this is what this is what's the title what are you titling this and that's also um ada compliant you have to make sure that your background is visible for someone who's colorblind you have to make sure that when you have a caption that's why everything has to be captioned so that somebody who's hearing impaired it'll be rewritten out for that um what did it take as like two minutes to put one description down with with a picture the other thing we have a video yeah or a video um from your library pulling you know that automates
accessibility i mean that's that's very important yeah all all of these websites now have a fee to check your website um school insight yeah with school insight actually ran a report on our website and found like 30 links that didn't work found some backgrounds that were not visible for the visually impaired you know and that's something you can pay for every year to make sure your website is in compliance but that's something when you're building it they will keep checking for you because they want you to be in compliance um love apogee she's been she's been working you know with me for an entire year but you can see that their fees are higher um san carver uses them north babylon so everybody's all over the map um the only one that is aidable right
now is syntax it doesn't mean that i can't negotiate with another company to get boces eight because just like um parent square went to boces to push out their program and have this kind of virtual luncheon so can educational networks like or or school inside to get moses eight if that's something more to explore as was so deb you said that the parents square there's a way of doing a survey on there yes so what if we used new parent square to send out a survey to ask people about issues that they had with our website you know what what do you want to see what do you want to see what needs to be easier on the website what do you like and you know what have you been frustrated with because because we're
redesigning it we could do a little test test yeah like three or four questions yeah yeah something short just what works well what doesn't if a specific you know a little room for an open ended query and then a few that just guide us and then that could be very or if you have anything else that you can reach out to so and so for you know any additional input right you might have and um yeah with an email link yeah we can set up a specialty just for that just for that um so yo can you send this to all of us we can all look at these different um school budgets yeah and then it is in your your uh with also with educational networks there is a kind of like a spot
where things can go and you can give an authorization so student council can have their own website pta can have their own website but it might sit in a queue with christine approving it before it goes out yeah so that's a that's a nice feature that some of the other ones didn't have which one's that educational educational network that's really nice right so it's actually it's on a separate website or like a separate tab a separate tab within the website within the website it has to be authorized by right it's not really a tab it could be it could be anything it could be a video that's a student council and they're jumping up in the air and then you click on that and it's everything about student council but they manage whatever gets posted
through student council right but it wouldn't approve first right yes as well and what it looks like on your phone unlike our website there's there's a phone version there's an app version so you can read the website on your phone unlike hours right now you can't it's like i know people that when i was talking about the websites and they're like where's the where's my list of back to school stuff my old parents always like what the list of practice questions yeah it's her they're getting posted tomorrow to the website and to the corner store and they'll just go too because jessica helps us out there and she gets everything assembled yeah she does which is nice but for things like that you don't want to have to submit a form that then takes have
you know being out on the field and saying field day is starting in three minutes it gives a parent it just oh my god i forgot you know like yeah we've got a you know go back into the building transportation it's gonna be huge for transportation transportation here's another unique thing is coming later exactly where's the next bus stop so i can well when they're coming back from a violin bus routes because of safety yes there is a mechanism on the website that you put in your email address and you will get access to that particular section so it's like a protection same way like in board docs like you can control them as access yes but it's by uh by email so if you have a spring's email you could see the bus route
for bus routes or something like that now we don't post that anymore because it was the same finish for us back to the supply list might that actually be something that goes out now and square yes absolutely and maybe yeah it's not even i think you might want to have on the website anyway but it's probably not as necessary there once well there's at least people using you know but yes we can absolutely out of the and all the letters talking about them all the instructions they provide everything thank you yeah you know we usually do it like a any questions from the audience and we've had a couple questions come up here but and we are able to take questions from ltv also lpb if someone has a question of what we've been talking
about either regarding committees or um the website in the square if there's uh anyone you know yeah we don't have any callers okay actually can i have a mission statement for that just for focusing probably further just a discussion mission statement next so we started this work before colbert we had our goals we had our objectives um your vision statement is a little old i don't think we ever did a vision statement to match our mission statement but this is your admission statement this is on the plaques it's in the building this is new this is within the last five years so if you're happy with this then your vision is what exactly do you quote envision for the spring students whether it's immediate or eight years from now when they wouldn't graduate well i
think the missions to me seems pretty accurate now lifelong learners direct cultural diversity positive character responsible caring citizens is there something that you feel needs to be changed on this mission i'm very happy with our mission our our goals when we first met to do goal setting we said that goals are not accomplished in one year objectives are but not goals so we had some of the same goals for a while social emotional academic achievement we had capital projects on there at that talk now health and safety was always not necessarily wellness there but actually health and safety um and that helped drive what we put in place and there's still more work to be done on that we've been looking at cameras and that too so um where do we have our goal do
we have our goals on our current website previous board meetings i would guess julie yeah but not anywhere when was the last time we actually um looked at what we accomplished was it last year the year before it was the end of last year what was the end of last year i think you know a goal should definitely be communications yeah academics um you said that the hyper focus on that but last the last couple of years we've been doing program reviews of basically and we started with literacy through social studies one of the things we did not get to chris is civics as a subset of social studies um to align with new york state ed's initiative on the seal of civic readiness that also the high schools pulled back out because of cobit
but now we're going to continue with that and we're going to really focus on civics for social studies things that we didn't get to and the math curriculum because that's going to drive our math budget for next year to decide what we have to budget depending on which program we choose whether we stay with golan or we go with the new program december 20 2021 it's not too long ago no but they are like three years old but remember when we first started we said you don't accomplish goals right away you accomplish objectives to meet that goal to improve school culture student achievement esther is our new requirement for new grants a whole child with his family involved and you see some of them weren't met because you know maintain growth no state testing again
we were at 95 people hoping and i think we were just maybe just at 90 percent this past year uncommon collaboration literacy asia literacy again due to not just hovered but due to navigation is short um short of substitutes professional development is really difficult to accomplish during the school day you should be able to pull out four or five people in a day and have substitutes for them we took care of goal three goal three is done we can cross that off the list to ensure the capital project is submitted to sed on time and we're still in the midst of goal four which is the reviewing the policy manual in its entirety yes and we didn't meet monthly through the coping and policies for the most part are close to those that we still
have a few more than happen and you didn't look at the science you're aligned with science we did facts we did art and music we've got a lot of curriculums three to four goals yes yeah so do we feel like we have to keep goal number one since it got kind of interrupted we're not doing it or is that is that uh dude uh twenty like keep goal one but add new objectives they give you obviously some objectives somewhere there might be like that's a good goal but there's probably you can probably work with various objectives with that goal do you have continued involvement of world community stakeholders you could change this to have something to do with communication or make a completely separate communication right and are there areas of professional development that we
have to tackle this year you're saying the map yeah okay that would be under professional development and you want to keep literacy well that's ongoing you know professional development in general is always ongoing but the focus will be on that and we're also doing a program review for a l um as well so those are the two areas that will really but literacy will continue our end goal is may 2023 for literacy we started that three years ago for all the to have a scope and sequence for k through six six yeah and um so that work is still going on um and that will continue and then other professional development especially for k-5 will go on for math it's just a little trickier as you get to middle school because they're all content specific
you know they're my own teaching everything so we'll be looking back at goal number one in terms of improving school culture student achievement you know through emotional confidence and self-regulation skills how how how did we fare with that and what what needs to i'm sorry i just saw like self-regulation skills yeah sales programs that's all our sel program which is implemented k through a second step right and that's all emotional regulation wellness mindfulness and that um i mean that's that's a program that right so program that's not really a goal at this point because that's established right yeah i mean because that's good that's an ongoing right something ongoing the program helps to meet the goal right so that so is this going to be a goal every year then or or exactly something that
you know always has to be there so it doesn't have to get focused on as an actual goal or something to accomplish over the years but is there something added like is there a wellness initiative that maybe we could add or uh if things weren't met if there's something different to do how can we these are the more goals right yeah i think the mental health i mean we have it in our health curriculum but revisiting that to make sure that part of the same legislation is informing students as well that it's okay to feel depressed that there's resources out there if you feel different it's okay if you know you have identity right issues well yes but i i think this actually really speaks to the restorative practices that that developing that continue to
develop the restorative practices program would be would be very much in alignment with social social emotional goal especially with regulation emotional regulation taking responsibility for their actions um making right you know just i think that that that would help so do you think we still need to be improving school culture at this point or just improving um just maybe just student achievement is that whole goal really still uh applicable it's just stuff really you know this is this is pretty coping between years later after cloven a lot of these goals changed the kids have adjusted totally different they're coming back to school right you can give your attendance and you can't do attendance that way but whose attendance pre-coverage right was it ninety percent well no it's this is pretty cold but it's a general
culprit this is boring 95 because it was virtual you said right so what was it pre-focused 95. i think loss of learning that has happened over the past couple of years is that something that should be a goal and how do we address that if it is an issue i think that was addressed last year okay that was addressed last year and during the pandemic when we came back we had the early morning programs we have the extra email programs we're doing um skills-based reading intervention at every grade of k-3 this year so i i don't think learning loss really has to be a goal i think that is again an ongoing active achievement role in meeting the needs of our students and that might be actually more through equity meaning giving everybody the opportunity
to achieve based on their own needs which that that maybe could look a little bit different i'm just trying to think off the top of my head but what where we could go with that without because we're missing a whole year here we're missing a whole year here so i'm trying to throw it in those places and then is this something we should be visiting the next one session certainly yeah um can i add some i just was you know a movement well-being or a fitness piece it might be like an awareness if not an event or just i don't know something i think that's important i think we added intramurals i i also think that when you look at accessibility not everyone can be on that not everyone makes a team you know is
there something that we can do that creates opportunities school-wide to experience that even if it's not daily it's just something that might spark an interest in someone and then maybe because of what they learned at school they can then do it at home sure i don't know what that looks like right yeah you know it could be because a lot of things we have are our team which is great but there could be an individual entry like a yoga or meditation or just a fitness experience of some kind um yes i just said that i like the bigger factors it's a the missing pieces and then go forward right and then just lastly with the student achievement have we where were we at or have we ever looked at uh national junior honor society for
our school um i don't know if we have ever done national junior honor society but i look into it and i know tim has thoughts on that you should talk to him yeah no i i i knew it was something that we probably somebody must have brought up but i would be curious because i'm sure there are cases for against you know and i'd be interested i know since i've been in this capacity i i haven't been part of those discussions but i'm certainly open to it we do have a community service piece which is part of that yeah i'm very open to that that's something that goes along with that that goal of the whole childhood community service piece being community oriented you know now that we're post code we're bringing that back i
know your church did some fine work and i saw some of those pitches and then you know that's something those those students will do forever they just say like if you vote at a young age you'll always vote if you get blood at a young age you know it's instilling that giving of yourself not necessarily money but time makes you that better person we'd like to recognize them too against their names sure you know we had all right try kids last weekend i'm just thinking what drove the creation of these particular balls by the board it was a couple moves [Laughter] doing gold way to rise and get all of our attorney to do follow-up well we're here five nights a week and we don't get paid for it you guys put a lot of
times so i mean we've had like a goal for our students to go for teachers we had to go for the building we had goldman superintendents baseball do we have uh that building goal was finished at the capitol project is there any other like concrete practical goal that we think that we need to have going on this year or we really wrap that up or okay so that's that sounds like a goal five-year financial plan oh building plan a while back that was one of your directions to mike was to always be looking five years ahead yeah good financially but we haven't done which to look at that and as i think it was pat you said go back to plan a and b and see what we've already accomplished because we have accomplished some
of those beats and what are the priorities and your priorities have always been held in safety over making things look nice that that floor took a beating during construction and it was a safety issue it may not have looked too nice but it definitely was a safety here look around as i mentioned but one of the to walk through the party the old commons courtyard you know the new zebra out there they put the new generator out there it's unsightly ugly against unsafe so we got to definitely talk do the fence around there no it's still going open yeah and then the soil is just atrocious out there i mean you can't really sit down here yeah so yeah we actually have teachers today saying hey are you according to our coordinator position going to
be open are we gonna are we there yet no no yeah yeah so so this brings us back to committee so if we have buildings and ground there's one committee and then health and safety i know you are you you're still interested in being on buildings and so then there's room for one board member on buildings and grounds health and safety is is separate i mean you've got two board members on that though but if somebody you two want to join in that's fine yeah which on buildings health and safety so um i know you had both been interested in being on health safety and facilities but now if we have them as two separate do you have either you have a preference on i was definitely more for health and safety okay my areas
you know would be communications and the wellness aspect of health and safety i forgot which committees were at but those would those would be two easiest on the top man and of course shared decision like i was open to that but obviously that's up in the air all right so if we do um look so so you're on buildings and grounds those two are two new members on health and safety or should we have a new member who's on it now right well if we separate it if we have a separate just buildings and grounds and then health and safety right but we have six other five other committees we're looking at right right so if we had a communications committee and an academic committee and we have policy just tim and i are on
at the moment but we can talk about that and then there's the diversity which we don't yeah dei i was just looking at it it's actually it's a board of regents initiative in conjunction right with new york state and it's not really mandated right i don't know if this would be helpful to you at all i'm just going through some of the local east end district to see what their committees are and it's interesting it's quite diverse so i can give that to you after the meeting and maybe you can look at it and see if that anything sparks in terms of how to organize communities yeah like one district is very general academic athletics facilities audit policy personnel and housing another is a little bit more specific and in line with what you're talking
about tonight buildings and grounds curriculum and instruction legislative liaison or administrative site-based a shared decision-making um audit committee and then high school i mean since i'm being paid so i think it's whatever you want to do um policy in order are you a requirement um so does it make sense to have buildings ground separate from health and safety do you think i think so that okay great so we'll do building compounds health and safety um so both of you are interested in health and safety yes i wonder with the athletics might that roll into health and safety well you know it hasn't like a discussion topic or because this is true i realized when you said that we never yeah i don't know i mean but it is interesting it would be nice to have
like some more discussion on on athletics and where we're going and you know does it roll into an existing committee we're talking about so safety will accomplish will be facilities will involve some facilities but you know it's not the facilities i think should be more concentrated on the five-year plan right yeah but if there's a window or something needs to be done that'll still be could still be addressed on health and safety even though it'll be a facility yeah like we're talking about there could be some alignment some lateral discussion yeah yeah i mean that's the whole idea of committees now is that we come back as a foreign right and we discuss and then we make decisions so like health and safety can talk about more um physical health and right programming whereas the
buildings and grounds would be dealing with the fields and the the the hard stuff right that's my understanding yeah yeah built about work on beautification of the school right you know we have the chancellor yeah another program and how we're going to make it yeah i see those things well then that is separate but also it could be encouraging programming for kids working outside which then sort of moves into the other thing so okay um and uh and then academic committee um so and we should get we'll need to get ten minutes yeah yeah is there something else that you're interested in being on emma well i was going to say communications but i don't need to like i can go somewhere else so we're not both on both right so well let's check with
him i mean i'd be interested in being on communications maybe he would be academics interesting so we can sort of get this all passed out certainly but you'll you're definitely still on buildings and grounds this year right well i i don't think i'll ever turn it over completely no yes yes as far as there's there's an opening for a diversity coordinator which is great and i'll work with them but yes that could be part of the committee work that you do doesn't have to necessarily be important right all right okay it's nine o'clock good good we're ready to go all right we've been productive discussion so our next workshop is on september 6th would be the next workshop yeah regular meetings august 23rd yeah you know august i think september 6th we sent it right
to a board meeting yeah in case of any like no because we have regular board meeting on the 23rd and that was sort of the time to wrap up any last minute stuff so we're doing a workshop yeah if you look at the agenda did you have for the 23rd approvals you approved tonight yeah we were we had talked about flipping it so i um we have regular workshop on there you can do the workshop on the sixth if we want and then if we have anything that is that the first day of school yeah yeah just to give uh yeah yeah the deb and christine staff to do what they got to do should we switch it to the 13th and we could just do two weeks in a row instead of skipping just
until we're not switching around with that work would that work for you guys instead of doing it on the first day of school if we just put the workshop on the 13th and have the regular meeting keep that on the 20th that'd be i'm just trying to think of open house yeah no we're good because it's tuesday night i'm going with anything else well i mean and so items that we'll want to address at the next workshop will probably be goals right and um if we have any more information on the website or shall we i guess our committee needs to get together for the website right you won't have to be using any recommendation to the board um well so this is like a project should it be again the communications committee or is
it just something that we're working on in workshops well i wonder if with the with the website so there's going to be a technological developmental aspect to it right so there's somebody's going to build it and that probably won't be necessarily in the committee but then once we have the website in terms of how we use the website that would probably be in the code right but yeah but we have to sort of know that as we're going into building it and i mean we really what we have to do now i think is the research and decide on the look and the ease of use and stuff right so is that committee or like a board work session that's a big point do you want the survey for the next board workshop oh that
is oh yes yes because that would proceed yeah yeah yeah those results might help you decide which web which one of those web companies you want to go with and um i need to find out about syntax whether they will do a monthly fee okay going forward to continue hosting because a month by month least right i know you could do hosting i'm moving out please let me say that became an issue we're doing it with mine right now but it might be something that the new one picks it up and then it carries over once the runs out right that year or whatever we just can't let it go until we have something in place right the educational networks company offered to give different templates like an abcd if that would be helpful to
you guys too i know you know you don't always go for looks you know so all right so you're going to roll out square we're going to do a survey and see what kind of feedback we get there you go and i'm going to go on vacation and you're going to go on vacation i guess you can go with me we get feedback on the names of our committees how'd we do i'll get parents where i started before i leave yeah this thursday it's a uh it's a are closer so i can give both these points okay and we can also you know figure out the topics as you know talk about what the next meeting is doing whatever like three questions for the survey that you can think of three questions in a comment
yeah right right um and that'll be the first thing we send out to our parents along with here's how you do interact okay i know the pta i did send it out to leah boyle when she got back and she said she thought it was a good idea and you know the sta we met with this morning switched to getting a new website yeah yeah okay okay so on that note do i have a motion to return the meeting are there any public commentary on any of the items we've just discussed anyone want to call in with a question or a comment we have no callers all right uh so on that note do i have a motion to adjourn motion second sir all in favor aye great thank you for
