what we had budgeted uh from a contractor with a good reputation that our architect has worked with before and the recommendation is to award this bid to them uh the installation of the generator itself probably wouldn't take place till probably next summer earlier if we can but probably not until next summer emotion second any questions or discussions cast your vote that's okay take it okay yes for me motion passes technical question about the stuff yes sir can we change the default from abstain to what do you yes do you mean yes well i'll i'll check on that if that's what the default coming up is that's what do your defaults are so just for this um this meeting since it's not up on the screen like we we're it's going to be in the future

if we could just we'll raise our hands to so the public can see if you're yes or no or abstain i was here it's just the name right okay okay hold on one sec okay okay okay so we're up to e appointment of construction manager mr carlson uh this is uh to appoint the school construction consultants as the construction manager for the uh generator installation project we've used sec for a number of years on a lot of our on most of our projects uh and they do an outstanding job can i have a motion i have a question about any questions there you go thank you um so this this contract is for 61 000 for construction management for the installation uh to oversee the installation of a generator correct can you describe the scope

of that project sure it's the uh um well it's it's not just plopping the generator down plugging it in uh it's redoing the electric to accept the generator um uh the actual it's it's not like a generator i mean it has to get be installed uh in place it's removal of the old generator uh making sure everything is uh connected properly is working properly and it's based on a percentage in accordance with nassau boces contract a percentage of the construction cost what's the what's the cost of the underlying project uh the construction cost that was just approved million well 1 million one hundred seventy three thousand okay uh for more in-depth uh discussion of uh what the construction manager service would involve i would uh respectfully ask you to allow me to bring the uh

our architect in to describe that more because he could describe it a lot better than i could if you'd be more comfortable with that what what does the board feel would you like to vote or would you like to put it on the next meeting i need four four of yes or no sherry do you want to vote now or next next meeting huh looks like we we need more information about us jonathan do you want that's up to you no i'm ok i'm okay with it okay done done i'm okay and we're good okay thank you terrific can i please have a motion and we already did the questions and discussion cast your vote uh and what we could do also just here for the next facilities committee we can have the architect explain

buildings it's um some musical instruments um phys head equipment uh among other things uh all in either unusable unsafe condition and uh be under there i just have a quick question who determines that the piano or music director okay so that's just for music for for for other things if there's a specific person yeah we'll be like the athletic uh director would determine any of the uh phys ed equipment um music director for all of the musical equipment and in some of the cases for the musical equipment for instance so they'll uh either send it out or have someone come in and determine okay the cost to repair it would be whatever and then a decision will be made either yes it's worth repairing or it would cost us more to repair uh than it

would be to access it and and purchase new excellent thank you can i have a motion please so moved second any questions or discussion we i are we he wants to vote like verbally yeah as soon as oh here we go yes well okay so all in favor okay um hold on i'm trying okay did it work okay can we see how many yeses and those when it comes in just so you know yeah totally up to you absolutely age declaration of surplus textbooks jeff carlson uh we have uh mostly health uh some science and world language uh textbooks all uh in outdated uh series series can i have a motion please so moved second any questions or discussion go what do we do you asked this question now six months and yeah this question

comes up a lot and the problem with it is textbooks are heavy and the cost to ship them anywhere is is tremendous uh so we would be glad to donate this them to somebody who could use them but the problem is getting them there um and we've when we've had this discussion in the past it was well we don't want to bear the cost of shipping them to someone and we have yet to find somebody who wants to pay to have them shipped to them uh in some cases they're not it's not like they're in great condition uh mostly they're pretty beat up they're torn pages spines are broken but we would be glad to donate them to somebody who could use them but we we gen yeah or put them in for paper recycling

okay so we're up to cast your vote or yeah all in favor okay okay seven yes zero no motion passes letter i personnel items instructional mr dubrusky yes so um we are fairly light in terms of that part of the agenda since we had a meeting two weeks ago but we do have um at least one resignation of a nurse that we are looking to fill at this point and we have the appointment of eight coaches and several clubs in the elementary school including at the net safety and the school newspapers excellent can i have a motion please um any questions or discussion okay wait we could do the old camera verbally cast your vote okay seven yes and zero no motion passes letter j personal items non-instructional mr dubrusky yes um so this has

the typical resignation of employees we have um a security guard an sca and a lunch monitor resigning in addition we have the appointment of several non-instructional subs including sca's and a nurse we have the appointment we have an appointment of our new network and systems specialist one to fulfill our current vacancy and we have a status change of our head custodian etc who is moving from active to permanent status can i please have a motion second second any questions or discussion all in favor okay voting is open okay cast your vote we're a little slow compared motion passes okay we're getting there this is this is like so good and the next two are on a consent agenda so they could be moved together okay recommendations of committee on special ed subcommittee and accommodation 504

plan meetings of can i have a motion any questions or discussion all in favor any opposed just realized i haven't been saying that okay voting is open seven yes zero now motion passes 7b recommendations of committee on preschool special ed meetings of you move them together i did okay no idea good very good okay so we're gonna do items of interest oh so these are okay does anybody have anything nope okay so i just have a couple things um all american high school film festival so we're happy to announce that a senior from last year's 2020-21 advanced video production class isabella klug was a finalist in 2021 all-american high school film festival in the category best atlantic records custom music video with her song michelle that she submitted last year we are very excited for

isabella and her teacher lisa capiello congratulations and the next one is daring to dig women in paleontology the museum of earth and wks wskg a public broadcast system in binghamton new york are hosting a virtual panel on october 27th tonight at 7 p.m it's past geared towards middle high school girls their families and educators this panel this panel of eminent women will share their experiences inspiring the next generation of girls to pursue careers in science and paleontology mr peter shuckman who's wonderful science chairperson of salinas junior high school requested to share this with our district science staff to make our families aware of this unique event but we missed it but anyway that was fantastic that he uh he did that um anybody else have anything to say nope okay so i'm going to read

a statement just of information we're trying to give information so when there's questions we try to answer the community when we can so the board is in receipt of correspondence from a member of the community questioning if the district's current public participation policy which prohibits at the moment public discussion involving individual students staff and board members violates the open meetings law and its and is improper i want to ensure assure the public that all policy changes of the board of education are reviewed by our legal counsel prior to being implemented by the board of education further we have sought an opinion from the committee on open government the organization was general was generally overseas and advises school districts on open meetings law freedom of information law and personal privacy protection law in addition to receiving

an opinion from our legal counsel that the district's policy is legally sufficient as written the committee on open government has expressly advised the district in writing that the current policy language prohibiting public discussion involving individual student staff and board members is legally permissible that being said as discussed during the october 13 2021 board meeting upon further consideration the board of education will be considering at its november 10th policy meeting an amendment to its public participation policy to permit discussion by the public about individual board members and the superintendent so beginning over november basically after we have our policy meeting beginning november 17th the november 17th board meeting after a unanimous vote the public will be allowed to speak about members of the board and the superintendent so we just wanted that to be clear that

the community understands that the board of education anywhere cannot just make policy and not run it through legal counsel everything goes through legal counsel for approval before we bring it to the board and then proceed to vote and so on you know on a somewhat related matter i'm just curious i haven't read the i haven't read the most recent um contract that we have with our law firm but are we is uh attendance at school board meetings part of the retainer yes it is okay so oh so there's no there's no cost there's no additional cost uh for us to have attorney president okay thank you anybody else have anything they'd like to say okay so then without further ado that has concluded our business meeting we're going on to the public participation we have

two who's first ah christy christie mcguire hi christy good how are you christie mcguire arrowhead i just have a couple of questions where did the idea go that board meetings should be an open forum with questions and responses was that just said to throw us a bone prior to the budget re-vote why don't we receive google form surveys to gauge the feelings of the entire community on district issues why is a district not advocating for local control over unnecessary mandates speaking of masks why were we told mask breaks would be frequent and consistent for our children they aren't either one particularly at the elementary level why are students being asked to provide their personal cell phone numbers to the district before parents are notified of this request and are able to discuss the privacy concerns

and sensitivity of this request with their children why are we as taxpayers left in the dark on so many important issues and decisions taking place in three village more and more people in three village are considering homeschooling myself included for someone who teaches public school that's pretty staggering people are becoming increasingly frustrated with lack of transparency and communication in three village we were once functioning proactively in our district functions reactively it's time to start an open dialogue about how we get the district back to where it once was that requires communication if you truly stand for your mission statement where three village makes decisions in concert with its families that needs to start including all families you aren't working for a fortune 500 company here where the bottom line is money your bottom line should

be about people not funding you have a tremendous responsibility to the young people in our district and that includes a responsibility to the families they belong to so when do things change thank you okay i'm going to try to get it right i know i got it wrong last week two weeks ago sue wallhurt waller thank you my name is sue wallert i live in east to talk it good evening board of ed meeter members and ms pedesic tonight i would like to discuss the three village diversity equity and inclusion committee i will once again refer to dr terence roberts who the district hired as a consultant to the dei committee his advice to those who want to create change in their communities is simple and i quote start treating every other person in the

universe as your peer not looking up to anybody not looking down to anybody seeing everyone on eye to eye level and accepting the differences that you see end quote the diversity equity and inclusion committee in three village school district was formed in response to a request from new york state while i appreciate community members who work together to create and transfer information to the community at large i must state that the only way i know what is happening with this group is through the website i no longer have a child in the district this past august a list of recommended books was posted in the dei resources section of the website i was a bit taken back by the lurking bias of some of the books which were listed this list was conveniently taken off

the school website after a few of us published it on local facebook pages i was told by a board member that and i quote periodically the list will be taken down so it can be reviewed and updated based upon recommendations and input from the committee i question where this list came from and whether the board members and committee members had read these books the list continues to be missing from the page i purchased one of the books recommended for 5th to eighth graders what is white privilege by ericsson and wing from the pages of this book and i quote if you are a white person reading this there are several steps you can take to end white privilege first understand that white privilege isn't good for anybody it does not feel good to have a

lot of things that you didn't earn when other people's people don't get to have those same things end quote this message is for a 10 year old in essence this breaks down images of self empowering children should be the goal no one is a winner within this paradigm of thought when dr terence roberts spoke to the elementary dei committee he repeatedly stressed the importance of sense of self and pride in self does this book or a book like this create pride in self or create separation and self doubt i am looking to the dei committee to improve communication with the committee community through creating a more easily navigable site using carefully thought out ideas thank you your time is up please know i am watching and listening thank you can i have a motion to

adjourn second second all in favor good night thank you very much
